Life Of A Slave Girl Literary Analysis
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines trauma as, a disordered psychic or behavioral state
resulting from severe mental or emotional stress or physical injury. Authors such as Harriet Ann
Jacobs, Zora Neale Hurston, and Toni Morrison address the trauma of slavery in their individual
works. Each author demonstrates trauma in a unique way. Harriet Ann Jacobs wrote Life of a
Slave Girl as an autobiography. When the novel was published in 1861, Jacobs did not provide
the real names of the persons involved in her trauma, as she deemed it respectful. Jacobs also uses
the pseudonym Linda Brent for her own protection. Life of a Slave Girl allows readers to connect
with Linda personally and have a better understanding of the pain she went through,... Show more

The story itself is based around 1861 1895. Similarly, to Hurston s novel, Morrison includes
moments from the past and present. The novel uses more time jumps to explain situations that
became relative to a present day situation. Throughout the novel, the readers understand that
Sethe s dead baby is haunting her home, but the death is never explained until much later. The
details of Sethe s attempt to murder her children is given and then immediately switches to
present day when Paul D discovers the truth by a fellow worker showing him a clipping from the
newspaper (Morrison, 182). This creative writing style helps readers fully understand the depth
of the problems at hand. Sethe s decision to murder her children could not be written simply
through dialogue, it needed to be detailed. By writing this way, readers can grasp the amount of
trauma Sethe and her family have dealt with and overcome. The amount of gruesome detail
written into the story is meant to be uncomfortable, because the way slaves were treated was
inhumane. For example, Sethe s scars are described as looking like a chokecherry tree
(Morrison, 93). Sethe received the scars after being whipped back in Sweet Home. Beloved opens
many of the characters traumatic events. In later chapters, Morrison switches from a third point of
view to a first point of view. Beginning in Chapter 20, Morrison writes from Sethe s point of view
discussing Beloved and

Visible Light Communication Essay
1.INTRODUCTION
Visible light communication (VLC) is an upcoming technique which can be used for data
communication which uses visible light. Li fi is a subset of OWC Optical wireless communication
and it can be used as a complement to RF communication (Wi Fi or cellular network).
As Lamps are the common source of room lighting, they are providing a new pathway for linking
mobiles to the Internet, with the potential for wider bandwidth and it has a quicker response time
than Wi fi. As there are differnet sources, the speed of the transmission also varies. Ordinary
lamps can transmit the signal with the speed of 10kbit/s whereas LEDs are used to get
transmission speeds upto 500Mbit/s and with the help of powerful LEDs we can achieve the speed
of 10 Gbit/s.
At the receiving side, Devices containing photodiode receive signals from light sources. In few
cases, digital camera may also be sufficient. The sensors used for receiving signals are infact an
array of photodiodes(pixels), where each one can be used as separate channel to provide multi
channel propagation.
PLC Power Line Communication is also like VLC, developed in the same era and is the method
of transmitting data on transmission lines meant for electric power distribution to comsumers. The
basic principle involved in PLC is that these can be operated by adding a carrier signal to the
existing wiring system. The propagation problem is a limiting fator for PLC s. Low Frequencies
are generally to carry data over

Analysis Of Oddi Banding
Oddi Banding Weight Loss Procedure Morbidly obese patients have recently been introduced to
a rapid weight loss procedure called Oddi Banding. The procedure is comparable to gastric
banding in that it works by attaching a small plastic band around the sphincter of Oddi (SO),
compressing the outer wall. The SO has many different important purposes that are adversely
affected by this procedure. Some of these side effects include: anemia, elevated white blood cell
count, abnormal discomfort after eating, scaring of the Sphincter of Oddi, damage to surrounding
organs and even death. All of these elements will be explained below in further detail.
(CQUniversity, 2015) What is the Sphincter of Oddi? The Sphincter of Oddi is a construction...

If this new tissue is not flexible and is unable to preform the task required of the SO it will be
detrimental to the surrounding organs such as the pancreas and more importantly the individual s
health. The pancreas is responsible for releasing enzymes to aid in the digestion and absorption of
food in the small intestine; it also creates hormones that regulate blood sugar levels. (Kathryn L.
McCance, 2014)(NCBI, 2013) These enzymes travel through the pancreatic duct and out the
Sphincter of Oddi into the Duodenum. If scar tissue is present at the SO it will be incapable of
relaxing and allowing for pancreatic enzymes to pass through into the duodenum resulting in a
backup of secretions. The overflow of secretions in the pancreas causes autodigestion (the digestion
of the pancreas own tissues) resulting in inflammation. This autodigestion can then cause
coagulative necrosis (cell death caused by ischemia and anemia), vascular damage, fat necrosis and
the growth of pseudocysts (fluid filled sac in the wall of the pancreas). All of these abnormalities,
injuries to the vessel walls, inflammation and coagulation malfunctions trigger an activation of
leukocytes. These responses will cause vasodilation and hypotension resulting in shock. The later
systemic effects of this can be respiratory arrest, cardiac failure, and renal failure

Comparing Zeffirelli s Adaptation Of Romeo And Juliet
For never was a story of more woe/ Than this of Juliet and her Romeo. The last line of Romeo
and Juliet was one that summed up the whole play. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story
between two star crossed lovers. Juliet, a 13 years old girl, belongs to the Capulet Family.
Romeo, aged at around 16, belongs to the Montague family. The two lovers cross paths and the
next day they are already married. The play itself was written by William Shakespearein 1595.
Whether it a book or a movie, in all the spin offs, there are sometimes many difference or just a
few. One of the closest interpretations of the play is the movie Romeo and Juliet directed by
Franco Zeffirelli in 1968; the extremely popular movie is a close interpretation of the play.... Show

Romeo to the party as long as he isn t a Montague. This scene sets up the meeting of Romeo and
Juliet and, sadly, not in the movie version. Later in the play, the men show up to the party at the
Capulet s house. In the play this party, a masquerade ball, describes everybody in disguise; so
nobody can really say who is who. In the movie, however, not many people seem in disguise at all.

CAA Rating
The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) is a purely voluntary system supported
by The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the National Association of Theatre
Owners (Crecente). The CARA is funded by film distributors and producers who pay a fee to
have their film rated ( MPAA Movie Ratings ). The debate on whether the CARA system works
or not is highly debatable. I, personally, think that the system is very functional. This system
provides parents and other audiences with a recommended rating for a movie. It is a person s
choice on whether or not to deem that rating as appropriate enough for children or others but, they
at least have a general idea or understanding of what the film could entail. The CARA system rates
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, not having the film rated does make it more difficult when putting it into theaters. Many
U.S. theaters use the rating system when showing movies and an unrated movie may not be
allowed ( What Do Movie ). Another great thing about the CARA rating system is that they give
their rating feedback to the producer of the film, this allows the producer to make changes to the
film, if they decide to, as a way of changing the rating before it enters theaters (Crecente). DVDs
are also supposed to stay with the same rating when released as the film was in theaters, because
they are not considered separate products ( MPAA Movie Ratings ). In 2007, The Federal Trade
Commission described the CARA rating system as a useful and important tool that parents
increasingly use to help them make informed decisions (qtd in Crecente). I also think that the
CARA system is a valuable and functional resource. This system allows audiences the guidelines
to the content of movies. Displaying evidence to an audience of what they can expect from a film.
The CARA rating system truly is a great tool to be utilized by all audiences when deciding on what
to watch at the movies, or at

Similarities Between Civil Rights And Civil Liberties
Civil Rights and Civil Liberties are two concepts that closely coincide with each other. Put
plainly, Civil Rights are freedoms given to citizens of a country by their government and, Civil
Liberties are their right to practice your Civil Rights. The easiest way to understand these words
is to retrace their first uses. The first use of the idea of Civil Liberties was in 1215, with the
signing of the Magna Carta. It granted the people of England very basic liberties such as protection
of church rights, and protection for barons from illegal imprisonment. As for Civil Rights, uses of
it can be traced all the way back to the Roman empire in the early 300 s. They were the first to
instate religious freedom, but the citizens were later forced to

Cops Teachers And Counselors Chapter 2 Summary
HEADER: PAD709 BOOK REVIEW1
Book Review
Maynard Moody, S., Musheno, M. (2009). Cops, Teachers, Counselors: Stories from the front lines
of public service.
Riccucci, N. (2005). How management matters: Street level bureaucrats and welfare reform.
Key Findings Cops, Teachers, Counselors: Stories from the Front Lines of Public Service, by
Steven Maynard Moody and Michael Musheno, is a fascinating exploration of how street level
bureaucrats make decisions and provide services to the public. The authors use an engaging
narrative analysis to describe how bureaucrats from various agencies use discretion when making
judgments on the delivery of public services. Stories from teachers, police officers and counselors
offer the reader first hand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cases documented seemed to be handpicked for narrative color rather than a true
representation of behavior on a day to day basis. Freedom to exercise discretion is shown to be
an abuse of power in some cases and heroic altruistic acts in others. The books depict discretion
as a license to hunt, where bureaucrats use ?a strict adherence to law? as an excuse to play God
and punish ?the bad.? Leniency is shown to be a heroic act to help those deemed ?good.?
Contributions to the Field of Public Administration In their books, Riccucci and Maynard Moody
Musheno expose the reader to the front line world of bureaucratic agencies. Through narration, they
provide the reader direct experiences that support theories of discretion, performance management
and the public administration dichotomy. By linking testimonies of real world, street level
experiences with theory, they offer a nuanced and humane perspective. The books give managers of
public administration the knowledge to develop strategies that may help link public policy with
bureaucratic practice.

She Walks In Beauty By Lord Byron Analysis Essay
Live Life to the Fullest (An analysis of three of Byron s poems and their messages) Lord Byron,
a generation two romantic poet who left an extremely prominent mark in history. Along with his
immense talent in poetry, he was also known for his extreme interest in women. Clara
Drummond, a romantics biographer explains, Byron had many lovers, and most biographers
agree that he had relations with over 1,000 woman. Aside from his immoral activities his poetry
is heavily influenced by Nature, as are most of the romantics poets. Lord Byron explains three
messages in each of his three poems, She Walks in Beauty, To The Ocean, and Don Juan; their
messages being carrying yourself in a proper manner, familiarity at a young age, and how old
age brings less excitement. In the poem She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron explains one very
important message. The way a person carries themselves can reveal many things about their
character. I m today s society there are constantly changing opinions, new ideas, and false hopes.
Through all these different obstacles the ability to keep the same self through them all is a very
sought after quality. In the poem She Walk in Beauty Lord Byron explains, And on that cheek,
and o er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent (lines 13 14). Byron is speaking of first
impressions. When a person is seen for the first time the impression they leave will be everlasting
and will set the tone for the upcoming relationship. Another point to be made about Byron s quote
is that men are attracted to women who carry themselves gently and mysteriously. Woman have a
tendency to be strong willed and very outspoken, but Byron is suggesting that men would rather a
quiet and respectful women. To The Ocean is another poem written by Lord Byron he explains
another prominent message. Learning and becoming familiar with things at a young contribute to
the ability to try new. Fear causes many people to not try new things and ultimately leads them to
missing out on the real joys of life. Lord Byron explains this point in the poem To The Ocean
when he suggests, And trusted to thy billows far and near, And laid my hand upon thy mane as I
do here, (lines 61 62). In this excerpt Lord Byron explains his

Similarities Between Don Quixote And Sancho Panza
The relationship between Don Quixote and Sancho Panza have various interesting points of
similarity and differences between the two main characters in the story of The Epic of Gilgamesh.
When analyzing both stories, one may see how the relationship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu
compares to the relationship between Don Quixoteand Sancho Panza. The Epic of Gilgameshis an
epic poem from ancient Mesopotamia, and is often regarded as one of the earliest texts of
literature. However, the main characters in the poem are both Gilgamesh and Enkidu. In Don
Quixote, Sancho Panza and Alonso Quijano (Don Quixote) have a similar bond. The relationship
between Don Quixote and Sancho Panza have various interesting points of similarity and contrast
with The Epic of Gilgamesh. How do the characters from Don Quixote contrast from the two main
characters in The Epic of Gilgamesh? Don Quixote is a middle aged man from the region of La
Macha in Spain. In addition, he began to be obsessed with the chivalrous ideas that appeared in the
books he read. Throughout his adventures his trusting sidekick, Sancho Panza, accompanies him on
his journeys. Sancho Panza first began to be the neighbor of Alonso, and throughout time Sancho
began to be his personal attendant. At first Sancho is quite timid, or bashful. Sancho Panza was
known to be Don Quixote s correct lens for what the world considered Quixote s distorted vision.
Quixote represented illusion while Sancho Panza represented reality throughout

Rock And Roll Outline
a.What is rock and roll?
i.Rock and roll music began developing in the 1950s and still continues to grow today. This is a
type of music that almost everybody in the world is somewhat familiar with due to how popular
and successful rock and roll has become. Today, rock and roll represents almost one third of the
U.S. market and more than twice the market share of the second place rap/hip hop. (online book,
cite). One of many reasons rock and roll grew to be so infectious is because of its acceptance of all
people no matter their race, gender, style, etc. This genre has several sub genres that have
branched off from the original rock and roll style, all of which contributed to making rock and roll
so contagious.

Due to lack of rightful accreditation back in the 1950s, Helen Kolawole expresses her opinion
about how the entertainment industry should finally be upfront about the originations of
several hit songs that credited white artists instead of the originators who were black. For
example, Elvis Presley is a well respected legend who was known as the king of rock and roll. Due
to Elvis being so successful in his career, the issue of several songs recorded by him, originally
being written by black artists, arises and irritates people of the African American race. It is
prejudiced that this white God is forever remembered as one of the biggest stars in history when
his success was partly based off of black artists who continue to be unrecognized. It is fair to say
that several white artists are better known for their success over black artists. Helen Kolowale
makes a valid point in relation to media arrogance and dishonesty means we are eternally bound
to live in a skewed world where Elvis is king of rock n roll, Clapton is the guitar God, Sinatra is the
voice and Astaire is the greatest dancer. (article by Helen) This advertised assumption plays a
significant role in leaving behind several originators who were of the African

The Dysfunctional Family In The Movie And Ordinary People
While there is no one proper way to deal with the death of a child and the attempted suicide of
another child, the behaviors of the family members in the aftermath can provide great insight into
functioning of the family. In chapter two, Turner and West (2013) discuss the dialectic approach to
family communication, and in the film, Ordinary People, we encounter a dysfunctional familythat
deals with contradictory impulses that both drive apart and pull together the family. It is useful to
analyze the Jarretts from this approach because each member has these impulses that impact their
relationship to other members that cause instances of change and stability in the family over time.
When we look at the individual family members that comprise this family, we can identify the
specific tensions they possess given the behaviors they express. A dialecticthat is present in the
case of Conrad is openness/protection in which he struggles between sharing and concealing
personal information (Turner West, 2013). We see him dealing with his emotional issues on his
own, as he does not tell his parents how he is feeling and, in turn, makes his depression an issue
that he will deal with on his with his psychiatrist. However, while he has the impulse to protect his
personal thoughts and feelings, he at the same time has the impulse to be open and talk about Buck
with his mother while they are in the backyard, which is something that makes Beverly angry. Here
we can see how the conflicting

Charles Perrault s Impact On Modern History
The fairy tale Cinderella is a well known story about serving, kindness, true love, and a little bit of
magic. It is one of the oldest fairy tales and has been interpreted many different ways. Even though
the details have changed, the main storyline remains the same. Around 1697, a child friendly
version of Cinderellawas created by Charles Perrault who had a major impact on modern history in
France (Encyclopedia Americana, 2006).
Charles Perrault was a french poet, prose writer, and storyteller in the mid to late 17th century.
He was born in Paris on January 12th, 1628 and lived until 1703, passing away in Paris on May
16th (Encyclopedia Americana, 2006). Growing up, he worked as a clerk for his brother, Claude
Perrault, who was a physician ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is better to have intelligence, courage, common sense, and kindness than beauty. Cinderella was
beautiful, and was even more beautiful because she had those other qualities as well (Encyclopedia
Americana, 2006).
A review on the classic story of Cinderella shares that Charles Perrault is credited with the best
known version. In the french version, the shoe was made of vair, but the word for glass in
french is verre. Both words are pronounced the same and that is how Perrault made the switch to
the glass slipper. Disney chose Perrault s version of Cinderella most likely because it was not as
gruesome as the Brother s Grimm version (Review, 2011).
In another review, Charles Perrault is known not only for solidifying fairy tales as a literary
genre, but also wrote nearly all of the signature stories of this genre. All the stories mentioned
earlier in the Tales of Mother Goose spread through levels of modern art and entertainment. In
Perrault s time, children s literature wasn t a thing and that is why the morals of his stories take on
more worldly issues while still having childlike fantasies (Review,

Essay about Argument Against Human Cloning
In 1997, the first clone of a sheep named Dolly was created. This embryo had a success rate of one
to four percent. When applied to humans, this percentage may decrease and become lower and
more unpredictable. With lives at stake, is it worth the risk of the embryos involved in the unstable
process? Although cloningmay allow for new medical procedures and research of diseases and
cures, it takes away from the natural biological order of life, and allows humans to play God while
creating a margin of error which could result in many defects. Many ethical and moral dilemmas
arise when discussing humancloning, and one can have many positions for and against each. To

In 1997, President Clinton proposed a moratorium on cloning that would not allow funding by
the government. A bill was also presented in the Senate in 2001 that would legally ban cloning
regardless of its funding, whether it was federal or private. The repercussions of infringement on
this law would be up to ten years in jail and a fine of up to $10 million (A). Human cloning
proposes many arguments for each opposing side and can greatly impact the modern world
based upon the research obtained through it. Whether or not that research is morally and
ethically correct is the topic of most discussions in the genetics field. Beginning with the moral
argument, one must understand reproductive freedom. Most cloning activists say that
reproduction, or the lack there of, is a natural freedom given to people (C). Restricting human
cloning would be a violation of that right. Just as people can choose not to reproduce using
contraception, abortion, or abstinence, people should be allowed to use all means possible
within their ability to reproduce, such as through cloning and in vitro fertilization (C). Cloning
is the application of this right specifically (C). Another benefit of cloning is the ability to clone
someone who has died to console those who are grieving over their lost loved one or to clone the
DNA of a person that was known for his of her greatness. Scientists would be able to recreate these
people in a new environment (C). A clone s parent may have come from

The Trade Of The Fur Industry
Many people who wear fur are not aware with the sad reality behind its production. Fur is
associated with glamor and wealth. However, the truth is entirely different. Annually, millions of
animals are brutally killed for their skin in the name of fashion. Coats, accessories, hats, scarves,
and other fancy items are made from these innocent beings. They live their entire life in tiny cages,
often with diseases, and at the end beaten, skinned alive and thrown onto a pile. It may sound
terrifying, but this practice happens on a daily basis. Before buying fur, people should be well
informed that their trendy items come from cruel, needless, and bad for the environment industry.
The main countries that produce farm fur are China, Canada, United States, Russia, and various
Eastern European countries. China is the major fur s exporter. The fur industry is the only
industry that is unregulated by the federal government. Animals raised for fur in farms include
minks, foxes, chinchillas, rabbits, dogs, and cats. Also, there are beautiful wild animals such as
raccoons, wolves, coyotes, and more who are locked in steel jaw traps while free in nature and
then forced to live in cages their whole lives. According to PETA Organization, Animals who are
trapped in the wild can suffer for days from blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and

Extended Potential Emily Dickinson s poem 632 goes in depth of the potential of the brain through
its vast capacity and knowledge. She compares the brain to the sky, ocean, and God to demonstrate
the function of the brain. Dickinson divides the poem up in three stanzas that center around the
brain and the other subject and compare them. The uses of figurative language and poetic elements
to support the theme of how the brain is boundless and can exceed limits beyond three these
entities. Dickinson uses repetition to enforce the general theme of the poem that compares the brain

Dickinson uses imagery to compare the sky and brain The one the other will contain (3). The
sky is a huge entity, but the quality of size isn t being analyzed in this line. Looking at the sky
you can see the detail in it, however, looking at a brain you cannot see the function within it. The
brain has the power to grasp knowledge, sensor, and most importantly give some organism the
ability to function. The depth beyond a brain and the importance of it s function serve a bigger
purpose than the sky allowing it to contain over the sky. Like the sky the ocean isn t compared to
the brain due to vastness. The ocean and the brain has similarity as the ocean reaches to a very
low point of the area and the brain reaches deep level of depth of knowledge it is able to learn.
However, one exceed limit beyond its reach as the ocean has a limit to reach certain areas as its
stopped due to it s environment. Looking at the brain it can understand new concept of learning

working, or survive hunger? Their are millions of things at can cause hunger all over the world,
and they are still happening. 795 million people do not have enough of the food they need to live
an active, healthy life (Mercy Corps 1) Food hunger can happen anytime or anywhere, and can
be caused by anything, too. However, some causes of hunger are by war, weather and climate,
human population, storage facilities, natural disasters and global warming. The most
destructive is drought, poor or failed harvests can turn in resulted of food scarcity and high
prices available of food(harvest 1). The other one that is more common in people is having no
money. In some countries or places, men are the only ones that have a good opportunity to a
job, education, and money. Women are the opposite of that, they have less job options women
are the ones who stay in the house and taking care of children. Lots and millions of people are
suffering for food because they can t afford it or have no way to receive some. There are
campaigns helping people but not enough for this situation. Hunger doesn t only affect one place
in the world, it can spread to different locations affecting the population that lives their. 60 percent

A call Monday evening to the EMT s union office wasn t immediately returned. Ritea said that
all FDNY members take an oath to assist others whenever they re in need of emergency medical

Low Fuel Cost
Prior to the decline of fuel prices, I had always thought there was not enough being done here in
American to contribute to the production of oil. Until now, fuel prices were astronomical.
Americans were having to plan out their route and car pool due to excessive prices. Unnecessary
trips was not an option.
In 2012, gas reached more than $3.50 per gallon. Today, gas averages have remained around
$2.50. What I found most compelling about the pros is with every penny decline, a billion
dollars is returned to customers. It is completely astonishing that one cent can have such an
enormous impact. Because of the production of oil in America, low fuel cost have allowed
Americans to save money and take much needed vacations. Whether traveling by vehicle or
plane, we are all much happier when we get behind the wheels of our vehicles or on a plan due to
low fuel costs. On average, households are saving over $700 per year and even more if there are
multiple vehicles. Americans were long overdue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
States such as Alaska and North Dakota are negatively affected by the cost of low fuel. Being
huge oil producing states, a prolonged decrease in oil prices can have a heavy duty affect
resulting in more layoffs, which brings me to the point that not every individual benefit from low
fuel prices. When the cost of fuel is low, as it has been the last couple of years, more individuals
who work in the oil and gas industry will continue to lose their jobs. With more than 100, 000 out
of work, low fuel prices are not doing our unemployment rate any favors. Even though fracking has
contributed to the increase in production of oil in the United States, many believe it has greatly
contributed to the significant increase in earthquakes. Despite the fact that has not been proven, if
one looks at the logistics of fracking, it is quite obvious there must be a relationship between the

Sacrifice In The Hunger Games
What is sacrifice? If you type that question into google the first definition you read is, An act of
slaughtering an animal or person or surrendering a possession as an offering to God or to a
divine or supernatural figure. What do you identify sacrifice to be, How would you define it?
This is a two part hidden question posed by Suzanne Collins to her readers as well as Katniss
Everdeen in the book The Hunger Games where the daunting future of North America, known as
Panem, is divided into 12 districts and governed by the Capitol. Every year they select 24 innocent
tributes ages 12 18, 2 from each district to fight to the death on a TV show called the Hunger
Games. Throughout the book Katniss Everdeen, the main character, makes many sacrifices,... Show

As Rue is doing this Katniss speaks to Rue, I d have thought, in District Eleven, you d have a bit
more to eat than us. You know, since you grow the food (Collins 202). Katniss has always
struggled to provide food and thinks since district eleven is agriculture they get more food. Rue
replies Oh, no, we re not allowed to eat the crops. She continues They whip you and make everyone
else watch (Collins 202). Rue communicates to Katniss that even though they grow it, they can t eat
it because it goes to the Capitol. After this conversation Katniss recognizes that other people
sacrifice pain, such as whipping in order to get more food and survive. Far along in the games
Katniss and Peeta are hiding in a cave so Peeta can rest and heal from his wounds that he
received from Cato a career tribute, when Peeta and Katniss get on the subject of food
sacrificing. Peeta mentions that a lot of the food his family gets is, Too expensive for my family
to eat. Unless it s gone very stale. Of course, practically everything we eat is stale (Collins 309).
Peeta is explaining that even though they are shopkeepers they struggle to afford food as well,
just like anyone else in the district. It s after this remark that Katniss s previous idea, assuming
the shopkeepers lived a soft life, is proved untrue. She realizes the districts altogether sacrifice to
live and provide food for their families not matter their prestige in life. This causes Katniss to

Paper Towns
The book I am currently reading is called Paper Towns by John Green, the genre of the book is
mystery because close to the ending of the book she leaves clues to where she ran away. There
are 305 pages in the book. A review this book got on it was The following is quite a lot of dribble
that I felt the need to get off my chest... . I recommend this book ages 14 and above because it
has some words that are bad and I think some kids parents might not want their kids to see those
words. The most important characters in Paper Towns are Margo Spiegelman and Quentin

Quentin then asked why she wanted to borrow the car, she then responded saying she had to do
things and go to the store. So they soon got into the car and drove off to the store. Margo
needed: Vaseline, six pack Mountain Dew, one dozen Tulips, one bottle of water, tissues, and
one can of blue spray paint. The reason Margo needed that stuff was because she was trying to
get revenge on her friends and ex boyfriend. Why?, Because he was cheating on her with another
girl and her friends knew all along and they didn t even think of telling Margo that he was
cheating on her. I think the theme of this book is, to get revenge on people for not telling you
bad things so later on they won t hurt you, like in this case Margo s ex boyfriend. I think this is
the theme because if Margo s friends have told her sooner, she wouldn t of been doing this to all
her friends and her ex boyfriend. The conflict is mostly Man Vs. Society like as Quentin tries to
solve the clues she left and finding her. It s also Man Vs. Society as Quentin is trying to find
Margo because she disappeared and he feels guilty. Since my book was made into a movie, I would
have to compare 1 thing of the movie and book. Sea World In The Book In the book it talks about

Atticus Finch Real Courage Quotes
Atticus Finch is a lawyer in Maycomb County. He took a stand for Tom Robinson during the
trial against Mayella Ewell. Despite him knowing that he is going to lose the case, he still has
the courage to take a stand for him. Because of his great acts, it makes sense for Atticus Finch to
take stand for Tom Robinson. The first reason it makes sense for Atticus Finch to take a stand for
Tom Robinson. The trait that I believe describes Atticus Finch the best is that he is very
courageous. Atticus goes to the jailhouse when Tom Robinson is moved there to protect him.
When a group of men shows up, Atticus stands his ground. He is afraid though. (201 207). In this
quote, it shows that Atticus was courageous by standing up for what he believed in, even though
he was afraid. Atticus says, I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea
that courage is a man with a gun in his hand (148). This saying from Atticus is teaching the kids
what real courage is. He wants to let them know that he is someone with real courage, that is
actually doing something that can help someone else and risk himself at the same time.... Show

Oklahoma City Art Museum Essay
When I attend the Oklahoma Art Museum this morning, I was completely blown away by the
different styles, technique, and artistic abilities that artist have. Art can come in many forms and
can involve many different things. From paintings, sculptures, and abstract pieces of the modern
world. Along with my visit, I got to experience a new collection of blown glassthat was absolute
remarkable. As I walked though the museum, it was as I walked though time and got to see how
each period s art changed throughout time. From the different shades of color to the different
types of technique that filled the halls of the Oklahoma City Art Museum, each piece was
genuine in its own way. I was starstruck as I witnessed Lowell Nesbitt s Parrot Tulip, Richard
Diebenkorn s Albuquerque, and Dale Chihuly s blown glass. The Parrot Tulip, by Lowell
Nesbitt, was painted in 1973 and was made by oil based paint on a canvas. Nesbitt was a floral
artist that spent most of his time looking for the perfect flowers in nature. His work corresponds

The Artists And Creators Of Violence
The artists and creators of violence in various forms of media have the ability to shape how
people perceive violence as an art. While most people that art is used as a form of aestheticism,
often the creators attempt to send a message through their work. Maggie Nelson explains in her
work, Great to Watch, that the art of crueltyaestheticizes violence in order to invoke a feeling of
guilt as they watch others suffering. People use violence as an art of expression to create a moral
or idea of through their story. Nelson points out that violence is complex and she demonstrates
this with her mentioning of Abu Ghraib which she implies that she wishes violence was true
and simple. She also mentions that the reason violence is used to send messages is because
people often find that being bad and committing malice acts is an easy way of life. She explains
that people find that the dark side and dark emotions take over and being good is difficult. She
explains that there is a pleasure and desire through violence. Nelson reflects on the idea that
people admire the idea of violence and its explicitness and its ability to show that not everything
is as perfect as seems. In her quote, The moral of this dichotomoy is that distraction by banal

that people create in their stories shows that the duality of people when dealing with moral issues,
shows that people have both a dark and

Apple was founded on April 1st, 1971 in Cupertino, California. It is a celebrious company and

Apple is an incorporation, meaning they have declared themselves as a corporate entity separate
from it s owners. I would recommend this type of business practice because of it s benefits. Some
benefits of having an incorporation include protection of the owner s assets against the companies
liabilities, the ability to raise the capital through the sales of stocks, a simplistic and effective
transfer of ownership to another party if necessary. Other benefits include getting a lower tax rate
rather than on personal income and not to mention, having the benefit of creating a protective
bubble around the company s shareholders, directors, and most importantly the company s owners.
Hence, business structure of Apple is highly favorable amongst many and would be a suitable
recommendation.
B)Like many companies that are in one of the leading industries in the world, Apple is affected by
different business environments. Three types of environments they are affected by are their
internal. macro and micro environments. They are affected internally through a number of key
components the number of employees, to how they manage, as well the corporate culture of the

The dams built for irrigation are often diversion dams, which are usually constructed to stop the
natural course of the river for sending the water to a different place of need. To control flooding
in certain areas, detention dams are constructed to either stop or slow the flow of the water in a
river or stream. These dams have been constructed worldwide for drinking water, flood control,
drinking water, hydropower, irrigation, navigation, and water storage. Structures such as towers
or bridges do not even experience a fraction of the forces acting on that of a dam holding back
the flow of a river or a lake. There are numerous factors one must consider before the construction
of a dam. The basic concept that one must understand before the construction of a dam, are the
forces that act on a dam. There are tremendous forces acting on the material used in the
construction of the dam. For example, concrete is an essential material for the construction of a
dam and factors such as its compressive strength must be considered when a huge mass of water
acts on it. Furthermore, to construct any dam, engineers must consult a variety of criteria. For
example, flowing water tends to erode everything eventually no matter the material whether it be
soil or the concrete used to construct the dam. Civil engineers who specialize in water resource

of forgiveness was a reoccurring subject throughout the characters moral hardships. Elizabeth

proposed career group project (part 1), my group presented information on the child life specialist
profession. However, after much thought, I have decided to change my emphasis from child life to
child development and pursue a career as a school psychologist, once I graduate. School psychology
is a wide ranging practice and health service provider concerned with offering an assortment of
psychological diagnosis, assessments, and interventions, et cetera to all learners (i.e. children,
youth and families) (American Psychological Association (APA), (2015). The educational
requirements, as described by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), consists
of the completion of a 60 graduate semester specialist level program in school psychology plus a
1200 hour internship, for a majority of states (2015). Therefore, upon receiving my bachelor s
degree in child and family development, I plan to attend a graduate program that meets the NASP
standards for approval, and as stated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2015), clinical, counseling,
and school psychologists earn an annual median of $74,030.

Acute Renal Failure Essay example
Acute renal failure, also known as acute kidney injury is described to be a rapid loss of
kidney function, or a rapid decline in renal filtration function. The first signs of acute renal
failure can be found by a rise in serum creatinine concentration or azotemia, which is a rise
in blood urea nitrogen (BUN) concentration. Symptoms of acute renal failure may include,
little or no urine when urinating, swelling in the legs and feet, not feeling like eating,
nausea and vomiting, feeling confused, restless, sleepy or anxious, or pain in the back
below the rib cage.
The pathophysiology of acute renal failure is still uncertain though it is thought to be
caused by tubular necrosis and vasoconstriction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third cause is the
postrenal, which is when there are obstructions in the urinary tract. This one affects the
normal flow of urine out of both kidneys from a blockage caused by kidney stones, a tumor,
an injury or from an enlarged prostate gland.
The diagnostic exams used to diagnose acute renal failure are the blood urea nitrogen
(BUN), the creatinine clearance, the serum creatinine, the serum potassium and the
urinalysis. Other tests to diagnose renal failure can include, an ultrasound to reveal any
obstruction to the kidneys, an imaging test which include CT scans or MRI to reveal a more
detailed image of the kidneys and other organs, a kidney biopsy where a small piece of
tissue can be removed and examined, or an x ray to examine for pulmonary edema, fluid
retention in the lungs.
The first stage of renal failure is the acute renal failure stage, which is the crucial stage.
The patient must pay close attention to signs and symptoms in this stage. Signs may
include drowsiness, headache, and back pain, typically on the side also referred to as flank

Strongest Hurricane Month
In his article September Is the Strongest Hurricane Month Ever Recorded Probably, featured in the
September 27th edition of The Atlantic, Robinson Meyer discusses the latest surge of strong
hurricanes forming in the Atlantic Ocean. He begins by demonstrating the uniqueness of this year s
hurricane season with a few shocking facts. Firstly, he writes, this month will likely be the most
energetic months for hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean ever recorded (the month isn t over yet so
this isn t official). Secondly, it s only the 6th time since hurricanes began being tracked in 1878 that
there have been two Category 5s forking in one year; thirdly, it s only the second time that two have
made landfall in North America. Meyer goes on to analyze the likely cause behind the massive
increase in major hurricanes. The culprit in the statistical phenomenon: Accumulated cyclone
energy, which measures the strength of a hurricane over the course of its existence, done by taking

Ships, satellites, and land bound weather stations were used, so any hurricane over a body of
water where ships didn t travel was not likely to be recorded. This means that before 1914, a lot
of hurricanes in the Atlantic were not recorded, as ships were not likely to travel far from Europe.
Additionally, modern data catches a ton of small, quick storms which were unlikely to be caught
by old satellites or result in a ship caught up in the ocean. Also, the Hurricane Center estimates that
during the early times of recording, 0 5 hurricanes were not recorded every year. When factoring all
of this in, there isn t much difference in modern day hurricane activity levels and those of the

discussion allowing students to post comments to a particular topic and respond to the comments of
others. A threaded discussion, or thread, takes place asynchronously with each thread beginning
with a topic identified by the instructor. The students in the class facilitate the actual discussion.
Each student logs in and posts to the thread during class (or as part of a homework assignment). All
responses are displayed according to the order of submission below the original topic. The goal is to
involve the students in facilitating their own group dialogue through the use of technology. This
project introduces word processing, proper writing mechanics, internet search functions and

Use Of Stream Of Consciousness Techniques By William Faulkner
Simile. Metaphor. Onomatopoeia. We are taught these terms in elementary school and soon forget
them, but they are some of the most important tools authors can use to make their characters more
captivating and their narrative more convincing. Each writer s style is as unique as a fingerprint;
the particular pattern of loops and whorls, so to speak, depends in part on their use of these literary
modes. The literary fingerprint of William Faulkner, while typically adhering to standard rules of
writing, is recognized by its use of stream of consciousness techniques, a term coined by
psychologist William James in 1890 (Pomerleau). This form of writing attempts to break free of
previous literary conventions in an effort to portray thoughts and... Show more content on

She is akin to the straight man in a sitcom if there were nobody to react to the antics of the other
actors, many jokes would fall flat. Similarly, the mental crises which many characters in Light in
August undergo seem more significant after the reader has been exposed to Lena s stability. Lena
is also the immediate stimulus for several turning points for other characters: Byron Bunch falls in
love with her and puts himself on a quest to gain her trust; Hightower helps her give birth and is
reintroduced to the world; Brown has a moment of self realization when he meets her in the cabin.
She is like an enzyme, not consumed by the reaction she catalyzes. During the course of the book,
she goes directly through the town of Jefferson without being harmed or even affected, a strong
backbone to support the whirlwind of events that seems to follow her.
The writing style used throughout Lena s backstory is relatively uncomplicated, which reinforces
her role and characterization. Her entire backstory in the first chapter is told primarily by the
narrator and includes short, precise sentences such as She was the youngest living child. Her
mother died first. She said, Take care of paw. Lena did so (Faulkner 6). This concise narration
stands out against the rest of the book, which is told largely through stream of consciousness
ramblings or through other characters recounting events. But the plainness of style in Lena s
introduction reflects her role as an straight

Determining The Population Structure Of Salmo Salar
Joshua Igin
Determining the Population Structure of Salmo salar (Atlantic Salmon) in the Salmon River, NY
The Salmon River is located in Oswego County New York and it empties into Lake Ontario at Port
Ontario. It is a major hub of public recreational fishing in New York State and contains a variety of
fish including Chinook, Coho, and Atlantic Salmon as well as Brown Trout and many others. The
Salmon River was an extremely productive tributary into the late 19th century. Unfortunately, a
variety of factors led to the degradation of the water and subsequently the Atlantic Salmon
population collapsed. These factors included deforestation, over fishing, and dam construction.

(Falconer and Mackay, 1996). Additionally, (Youngson et al 2003) explains that in the management
of hatcheries, managers must make decisions based on population structure and genetic insight.
This research would provide novel information that could inform better decision making in terms of
the effectiveness and efficiency of the hatchery.
The Atlantic Salmon is an appropriate fish to study because of it s importance globally. It is a
commonly eaten fish, and is very prevalently produced used in aquaculture techniques. In addition
to that, it s a fish that has seen a dramatic population decline globally. There are major
conservation efforts concerning it, specifically on the coast of Maine. It is an anadromous fish,
and typically spends 2 3 years in freshwater, then spends about 2 3 years in the ocean and then
returns to it s native river to spawn. This makes it very vulnerable to the conditions it may face in
both environments.
The general approach of this study will follow similar methodology to the approach used in Ward
2006. The Genetic diversity within the populations will be examined based on samples locus
genotypes and the genome diversity can be examined for fits to Hardy Weinberg expectations. The
genetic differentiation between the samples will be quantified using the FST statistic from Wright,

Essay on Homosexuality and the Anglican Church
In recent years, the issue of homosexuality has been a controversial and frequently discussed topic
within the Anglican tradition. The Lambeth conference is an assembly of bishops of the Anglican
Communion and is convened by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The conference allows for a
collaborative and consultation function which allows for relevant issues to be discussed within the
communion ( Lambeth Conferences ). The argument over homosexualitywas discussed
predominately as a communion wide issue at the 1998 Lambeth conference, and it was concluded
that homosexual practice was incompatible with scripture ( Lambeth Conferences ). Whether
locally or globally, debates typically arise around the issue of homosexuality, and if should be...

Prior to the revolution, the Episcopal Church in the U.S existed nearly 200 years without bishops;
this was due in part to American resistance and the slow reaction of the Church of England (Ward
52). In 1622, the Church of England became established in Virginia; a crown colony, which had
governor appointed by the king (Ward 48). After the revolution Anglicanismin America was in a
disarray, some believers fled the country, while others were faced with the question of how to
give shape to their community of worship under changed circumstances (Linzey and Kirker 3).
Eventually the Protestant Episcopal Church was formed ( Ward 54). Christianity was a religion
that grew alongside with America, this allowed the religion to become adjusted to local
adaptations, and grow and change along with various civil rights movements. In Africa,
Anglicanism first accompanied the British involvement in the Atlantic slave trade (Ward 112).
Missionary movements in areas such as Nigeria and Uganda, which have a strong Anglican
presence, helped the religion to prosper. Christianity first arrived to Uganda in the 1870 s, during
this period the area was under strong Muslim influence and was popular for Arab slave traders (
African Anglicans ). The King of the region practiced the Arab custom of pederasty, and when
Christian courtiers and pages did not oblige, hundreds were killed in martyrdoms ( African
Anglicans ). Still the churches flourished and

  • 2. Life Of A Slave Girl Literary Analysis The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines trauma as, a disordered psychic or behavioral state resulting from severe mental or emotional stress or physical injury. Authors such as Harriet Ann Jacobs, Zora Neale Hurston, and Toni Morrison address the trauma of slavery in their individual works. Each author demonstrates trauma in a unique way. Harriet Ann Jacobs wrote Life of a Slave Girl as an autobiography. When the novel was published in 1861, Jacobs did not provide the real names of the persons involved in her trauma, as she deemed it respectful. Jacobs also uses the pseudonym Linda Brent for her own protection. Life of a Slave Girl allows readers to connect with Linda personally and have a better understanding of the pain she went through,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story itself is based around 1861 1895. Similarly, to Hurston s novel, Morrison includes moments from the past and present. The novel uses more time jumps to explain situations that became relative to a present day situation. Throughout the novel, the readers understand that Sethe s dead baby is haunting her home, but the death is never explained until much later. The details of Sethe s attempt to murder her children is given and then immediately switches to present day when Paul D discovers the truth by a fellow worker showing him a clipping from the newspaper (Morrison, 182). This creative writing style helps readers fully understand the depth of the problems at hand. Sethe s decision to murder her children could not be written simply through dialogue, it needed to be detailed. By writing this way, readers can grasp the amount of trauma Sethe and her family have dealt with and overcome. The amount of gruesome detail written into the story is meant to be uncomfortable, because the way slaves were treated was inhumane. For example, Sethe s scars are described as looking like a chokecherry tree (Morrison, 93). Sethe received the scars after being whipped back in Sweet Home. Beloved opens many of the characters traumatic events. In later chapters, Morrison switches from a third point of view to a first point of view. Beginning in Chapter 20, Morrison writes from Sethe s point of view discussing Beloved and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Visible Light Communication Essay 1.INTRODUCTION Visible light communication (VLC) is an upcoming technique which can be used for data communication which uses visible light. Li fi is a subset of OWC Optical wireless communication and it can be used as a complement to RF communication (Wi Fi or cellular network). As Lamps are the common source of room lighting, they are providing a new pathway for linking mobiles to the Internet, with the potential for wider bandwidth and it has a quicker response time than Wi fi. As there are differnet sources, the speed of the transmission also varies. Ordinary lamps can transmit the signal with the speed of 10kbit/s whereas LEDs are used to get transmission speeds upto 500Mbit/s and with the help of powerful LEDs we can achieve the speed of 10 Gbit/s. At the receiving side, Devices containing photodiode receive signals from light sources. In few cases, digital camera may also be sufficient. The sensors used for receiving signals are infact an array of photodiodes(pixels), where each one can be used as separate channel to provide multi channel propagation. PLC Power Line Communication is also like VLC, developed in the same era and is the method of transmitting data on transmission lines meant for electric power distribution to comsumers. The basic principle involved in PLC is that these can be operated by adding a carrier signal to the existing wiring system. The propagation problem is a limiting fator for PLC s. Low Frequencies are generally to carry data over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Oddi Banding Oddi Banding Weight Loss Procedure Morbidly obese patients have recently been introduced to a rapid weight loss procedure called Oddi Banding. The procedure is comparable to gastric banding in that it works by attaching a small plastic band around the sphincter of Oddi (SO), compressing the outer wall. The SO has many different important purposes that are adversely affected by this procedure. Some of these side effects include: anemia, elevated white blood cell count, abnormal discomfort after eating, scaring of the Sphincter of Oddi, damage to surrounding organs and even death. All of these elements will be explained below in further detail. (CQUniversity, 2015) What is the Sphincter of Oddi? The Sphincter of Oddi is a construction... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If this new tissue is not flexible and is unable to preform the task required of the SO it will be detrimental to the surrounding organs such as the pancreas and more importantly the individual s health. The pancreas is responsible for releasing enzymes to aid in the digestion and absorption of food in the small intestine; it also creates hormones that regulate blood sugar levels. (Kathryn L. McCance, 2014)(NCBI, 2013) These enzymes travel through the pancreatic duct and out the Sphincter of Oddi into the Duodenum. If scar tissue is present at the SO it will be incapable of relaxing and allowing for pancreatic enzymes to pass through into the duodenum resulting in a backup of secretions. The overflow of secretions in the pancreas causes autodigestion (the digestion of the pancreas own tissues) resulting in inflammation. This autodigestion can then cause coagulative necrosis (cell death caused by ischemia and anemia), vascular damage, fat necrosis and the growth of pseudocysts (fluid filled sac in the wall of the pancreas). All of these abnormalities, injuries to the vessel walls, inflammation and coagulation malfunctions trigger an activation of leukocytes. These responses will cause vasodilation and hypotension resulting in shock. The later systemic effects of this can be respiratory arrest, cardiac failure, and renal failure ... CAA Rating The Classification and Rating Administration (CARA) is a purely voluntary system supported by The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the National Association of Theatre Owners (Crecente). The CARA is funded by film distributors and producers who pay a fee to have their film rated ( MPAA Movie Ratings ). The debate on whether the CARA system works or not is highly debatable. I, personally, think that the system is very functional. This system provides parents and other audiences with a recommended rating for a movie. Many U.S. theaters use the rating system when showing movies and an unrated movie may not be allowed ( What Do Movie ). Another great thing about the CARA rating system is that they give their rating feedback to the producer of the film, this allows the producer to make changes to the film, if they decide to, as a way of changing the rating before it enters theaters (Crecente). DVDs are also supposed to stay with the same rating when released as the film was in theaters, because they are not considered separate products ( MPAA Movie Ratings ). In 2007, The Federal Trade Commission described the CARA rating system as a useful and important tool that parents increasingly use to help them make informed decisions (qtd in Crecente). I also think that the CARA system is a valuable and functional resource. This system allows audiences the guidelines to the content of movies. The easiest way to understand these words is to retrace their first uses. The first use of the idea of Civil Liberties was in 1215, with the signing of the Magna Carta. It granted the people of England very basic liberties such as protection of church rights, and protection for barons from illegal imprisonment. As for Civil Rights, uses of it can be traced all the way back to the Roman empire in the early 300 s. They were the first to instate religious freedom, but the citizens were later forced to ... Along with his immense talent in poetry, he was also known for his extreme interest in women. Clara Drummond, a romantics biographer explains, Byron had many lovers, and most biographers agree that he had relations with over 1,000 woman. Aside from his immoral activities his poetry is heavily influenced by Nature, as are most of the romantics poets. Lord Byron explains three messages in each of his three poems, She Walks in Beauty, To The Ocean, and Don Juan; their messages being carrying yourself in a proper manner, familiarity at a young age, and how old age brings less excitement. I m today s society there are constantly changing opinions, new ideas, and false hopes. Through all these different obstacles the ability to keep the same self through them all is a very sought after quality. In the poem She Walk in Beauty Lord Byron explains, And on that cheek, and o er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent (lines 13 14). Byron is speaking of first impressions. When a person is seen for the first time the impression they leave will be everlasting and will set the tone for the upcoming relationship. Another point to be made about Byron s quote is that men are attracted to women who carry themselves gently and mysteriously. Woman have a tendency to be strong willed and very outspoken, but Byron is suggesting that men would rather a quiet and respectful women. To The Ocean is another poem written by Lord Byron he explains another prominent message. Learning and becoming familiar with things at a young contribute to the ability to try new. Fear causes many people to not try new things and ultimately leads them to missing out on the real joys of life. The Dysfunctional Family In The Movie And Ordinary People While there is no one proper way to deal with the death of a child and the attempted suicide of another child, the behaviors of the family members in the aftermath can provide great insight into functioning of the family. In chapter two, Turner and West (2013) discuss the dialectic approach to family communication, and in the film, Ordinary People, we encounter a dysfunctional familythat deals with contradictory impulses that both drive apart and pull together the family. It is useful to analyze the Jarretts from this approach because each member has these impulses that impact their relationship to other members that cause instances of change and stability in the family over time. When we look at the individual family members that comprise this family, we can identify the specific tensions they possess given the behaviors they express. A dialecticthat is present in the case of Conrad is openness/protection in which he struggles between sharing and concealing personal information (Turner West, 2013). We see him dealing with his emotional issues on his own, as he does not tell his parents how he is feeling and, in turn, makes his depression an issue that he will deal with on his with his psychiatrist. However, while he has the impulse to protect his personal thoughts and feelings, he at the same time has the impulse to be open and talk about Buck with his mother while they are in the backyard, which is something that makes Beverly angry. In the french version, the shoe was made of vair, but the word for glass in french is verre. Both words are pronounced the same and that is how Perrault made the switch to the glass slipper. Disney chose Perrault s version of Cinderella most likely because it was not as gruesome as the Brother s Grimm version (Review, 2011). Human cloning proposes many arguments for each opposing side and can greatly impact the modern world based upon the research obtained through it. Most cloning activists say that reproduction, or the lack there of, is a natural freedom given to people (C). Restricting human cloning would be a violation of that right. Until now, fuel prices were astronomical. Americans were having to plan out their route and car pool due to excessive prices. Unnecessary trips was not an option. In 2012, gas reached more than $3.50 per gallon. Today, gas averages have remained around $2.50. What I found most compelling about the pros is with every penny decline, a billion dollars is returned to customers. It is completely astonishing that one cent can have such an enormous impact. Because of the production of oil in America, low fuel cost have allowed Americans to save money and take much needed vacations. With more than 100, 000 out of work, low fuel prices are not doing our unemployment rate any favors. While most people that art is used as a form of aestheticism, often the creators attempt to send a message through their work. Nelson points out that violence is complex and she demonstrates this with her mentioning of Abu Ghraib which she implies that she wishes violence was true and simple. She explains that people find that the dark side and dark emotions take over and being good is difficult. She explains that there is a pleasure and desire through violence. • 41. Strongest Hurricane Month In his article September Is the Strongest Hurricane Month Ever Recorded Probably, featured in the September 27th edition of The Atlantic, Robinson Meyer discusses the latest surge of strong hurricanes forming in the Atlantic Ocean. He begins by demonstrating the uniqueness of this year s hurricane season with a few shocking facts. Firstly, he writes, this month will likely be the most energetic months for hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean ever recorded (the month isn t over yet so this isn t official). Secondly, it s only the 6th time since hurricanes began being tracked in 1878 that there have been two Category 5s forking in one year; thirdly, it s only the second time that two have made landfall in North America. Meyer goes on to analyze the likely cause behind the massive increase in major hurricanes. The culprit in the statistical phenomenon: Accumulated cyclone energy, which measures the strength of a hurricane over the course of its existence, done by taking maximum... This means that before 1914, a lot of hurricanes in the Atlantic were not recorded, as ships were not likely to travel far from Europe. Additionally, modern data catches a ton of small, quick storms which were unlikely to be caught by old satellites or result in a ship caught up in the ocean. Also, the Hurricane Center estimates that during the early times of recording, 0 5 hurricanes were not recorded every year. When factoring all of this in, there isn t much difference in modern day hurricane activity levels and those of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Use Of Stream Of Consciousness Techniques By William Faulkner Simile. Metaphor. Onomatopoeia. We are taught these terms in elementary school and soon forget them, but they are some of the most important tools authors can use to make their characters more captivating and their narrative more convincing. Each writer s style is as unique as a fingerprint; the particular pattern of loops and whorls, so to speak, depends in part on their use of these literary modes. The literary fingerprint of William Faulkner, while typically adhering to standard rules of writing, is recognized by its use of stream of consciousness techniques, a term coined by psychologist William James in 1890 (Pomerleau). This form of writing attempts to break free of previous literary conventions in an effort to portray thoughts and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is akin to the straight man in a sitcom if there were nobody to react to the antics of the other actors, many jokes would fall flat. Similarly, the mental crises which many characters in Light in August undergo seem more significant after the reader has been exposed to Lena s stability. Lena is also the immediate stimulus for several turning points for other characters: Byron Bunch falls in love with her and puts himself on a quest to gain her trust; Hightower helps her give birth and is reintroduced to the world; Brown has a moment of self realization when he meets her in the cabin. She is like an enzyme, not consumed by the reaction she catalyzes. During the course of the book, she goes directly through the town of Jefferson without being harmed or even affected, a strong backbone to support the whirlwind of events that seems to follow her. The writing style used throughout Lena s backstory is relatively uncomplicated, which reinforces her role and characterization. Her entire backstory in the first chapter is told primarily by the narrator and includes short, precise sentences such as She was the youngest living child. Her mother died first. She said, Take care of paw. Lena did so (Faulkner 6). This concise narration stands out against the rest of the book, which is told largely through stream of consciousness ramblings or through other characters recounting events. But the plainness of style in Lena s introduction reflects her role as an straight ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Determining The Population Structure Of Salmo Salar Joshua Igin Determining the Population Structure of Salmo salar (Atlantic Salmon) in the Salmon River, NY The Salmon River is located in Oswego County New York and it empties into Lake Ontario at Port Ontario. It is a major hub of public recreational fishing in New York State and contains a variety of fish including Chinook, Coho, and Atlantic Salmon as well as Brown Trout and many others. The Salmon River was an extremely productive tributary into the late 19th century. Unfortunately, a variety of factors led to the degradation of the water and subsequently the Atlantic Salmon population collapsed. These factors included deforestation, over fishing, and dam construction. (dec.ny) In 1981 the Salmon River Hatchery was formed in Altmar NY,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Falconer and Mackay, 1996). Additionally, (Youngson et al 2003) explains that in the management of hatcheries, managers must make decisions based on population structure and genetic insight. This research would provide novel information that could inform better decision making in terms of the effectiveness and efficiency of the hatchery. The Atlantic Salmon is an appropriate fish to study because of it s importance globally. It is a commonly eaten fish, and is very prevalently produced used in aquaculture techniques. In addition to that, it s a fish that has seen a dramatic population decline globally. There are major conservation efforts concerning it, specifically on the coast of Maine. It is an anadromous fish, and typically spends 2 3 years in freshwater, then spends about 2 3 years in the ocean and then returns to it s native river to spawn. This makes it very vulnerable to the conditions it may face in both environments. The general approach of this study will follow similar methodology to the approach used in Ward 2006. The Genetic diversity within the populations will be examined based on samples locus genotypes and the genome diversity can be examined for fits to Hardy Weinberg expectations. The genetic differentiation between the samples will be quantified using the FST statistic from Wright, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Essay on Homosexuality and the Anglican Church In recent years, the issue of homosexuality has been a controversial and frequently discussed topic within the Anglican tradition. The Lambeth conference is an assembly of bishops of the Anglican Communion and is convened by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The conference allows for a collaborative and consultation function which allows for relevant issues to be discussed within the communion ( Lambeth Conferences ). The argument over homosexualitywas discussed predominately as a communion wide issue at the 1998 Lambeth conference, and it was concluded that homosexual practice was incompatible with scripture ( Lambeth Conferences ). Whether locally or globally, debates typically arise around the issue of homosexuality, and if should be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to the revolution, the Episcopal Church in the U.S existed nearly 200 years without bishops; this was due in part to American resistance and the slow reaction of the Church of England (Ward 52). In 1622, the Church of England became established in Virginia; a crown colony, which had governor appointed by the king (Ward 48). After the revolution Anglicanismin America was in a disarray, some believers fled the country, while others were faced with the question of how to give shape to their community of worship under changed circumstances (Linzey and Kirker 3). Eventually the Protestant Episcopal Church was formed ( Ward 54). Christianity was a religion that grew alongside with America, this allowed the religion to become adjusted to local adaptations, and grow and change along with various civil rights movements. In Africa, Anglicanism first accompanied the British involvement in the Atlantic slave trade (Ward 112). Missionary movements in areas such as Nigeria and Uganda, which have a strong Anglican presence, helped the religion to prosper. Christianity first arrived to Uganda in the 1870 s, during this period the area was under strong Muslim influence and was popular for Arab slave traders ( African Anglicans ). The King of the region practiced the Arab custom of pederasty, and when Christian courtiers and pages did not oblige, hundreds were killed in martyrdoms ( African Anglicans ). Still the churches flourished and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
