African Americans And Asian Americans
Model Minority has become a frequently used terms to categorize other cultures and systemize their
relationship to the rest of the world. Defined properly, model minority refers to minority groups that
have rates of socio economic assimilation and achieved a high level of success in today s western
society. The term has been used most often to describe Asian Americans, group seen as having
attained economic and education success at significantly higher rates than that of other minority
groups. Although first coined by sociologist William Petersen in 1966, the term model minority
was not popularized and nationalized as a reference to Asian Americans through radio and
television outlets, and even some academics until the mid 1970s. The... Show more content on

The Condition of Children Orange County report states that in the 2011 2012 academic year, 7.4%
of Asian students dropped out of high school, which is higher than their white peers (4.6%).
Because of this, many schools do not accurately monitor, record, and report the dropout rates among
Asian Americans. As a result, many school districts throughout the nation do not realize the
significant number of Asian students they are losing because of a stereotype (Walker Moffat,
1995). In addition to underachievement and growing dropout rates among Asian Americans, the
increasing socioeconomic gap between Asians and whites also made the model minority stereotype
problematic. According to U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rates among Asian Americangroups
(12.6%) remain elevated compared to that of their white counterparts and the overall national
average (12.4%).
The negative effects of the model minority myth and stereotypes are also evident in secondary and
post graduate education. Research shows that the false representation of Asian students has evolved
into the inaccurate view and additional stereotype that Asian students achieve their success through
dishonest means and threaten the success of their academic peers (Suzuki, 2002). For example, the
increased profiling of Asian students in higher education has resulted in directly adverse learning
environments that place additional negative views on their success (Yeh, 2002). Numerous

My Experience At World Cafe Live
For my second venue visit, I went to The Trocadero in Philadelphia, PA. This ended up much
less hectic than my first experience at World Cafe Live. From the start, I decided to implement
one of the main lessons I learned from my first visit, so I left my house with ample time to get to
the venue, and accidentally arrived before the front of house engineer did. Luckily, there were a
few assistant engineers there, and they let me in. One was an intern named Kyle from The Art
Institutes of Philadelphia. The other was a guy that went by the name Badge. I later found out the
he was the monitor engineer. Shortly after, Joe, the front of house engineer, showed up. They were
all easy going guys. Before they set up the stage, they all worked on... Show more content on

I checked google for Sennheiser 607s to make sure, and found no results. A shure PG81
condenser mic was used for hi hats, and two SM137s were used for overheads, also condensers.
I had never encountered the PG81 or the SM137 before that, to my knowledge, so I was nice to
see them in action. All of that fed into a subsnake place by the drums. The band also had a DJ,
who was placed on a riser upstage, stage right. I actually got to help patch that. We took the
stereo outs, XLR, of his controller directly into the main patch. I am assuming that Joe meant the
main snake when he said that. I gave him the cables and he took them under the stage, so I did
not actually get to see where the other side was patched in. I followed him around while he
finished setting things up on stage. There were for keyboards total. They were all patched as
mono into different DI boxes. I asked him why mono instead of stereo, and he said that usually
he would do stereo. However, in this case it was easier to do mono sends since keyboards would
be changing position on the stage throughout the night. During this time he gave me the advice he
says he gives everyone just coming into the business. Safety first. He told me that I did not want a
sandbag to fall on someone, and to trust him on that. In addition, the band had a bass player, a
guitar player, a saxophone, a trumpet, and one of the keyboard

Glam Rock Subculture Research
What subculture combines glam metal, punk rock, and gothic rock fashion? (Marasigan,). The
subculture that I have chosen is glam rock. Goth Gamers and Grrrls defines and subculture as a
social subgroup distinguishable from mainstream culture by its non normative values, beliefs,
symbols, activities, and often in the case of youth, style and music (3). Since glam rock subculture
has a long history of evolution and is common among all ages, glam rock is a unique subculture
with many interesting aspects. Glam rock started in the classic glam era (60 s 70 s). Glam rock is
considered to be a style of music (Nuttall). Its the immediate precursor to punk, and lingers over the

Mainstream being defined as belonging to or characteristic of a principal, dominant, or widely

you replicated your idols . Most of them are just punks in makeup and probably don t care about
politics or obide by rules (Nuttall). That would be how this subculture would distinguish
themselves, they want to be far from the mainstream culture. The glam rock subculture is also
different from mainstream culture due to not only their attitudes on life but also their clothing, hair
and makeup styles. Having big hair, rocker makeup including guyliner and manscara , wearing
animal prints, sequins, glitter, spikes, studs, metallic tops, tight pants, and platform shoes. The idea
is to stand out (Marasigan). Often dappled with glitter, male musicians took the stage in women s

Antibiotic Resistance To Antibiotics
Antibiotic Resistance The increasing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is a growing problem that
affects individuals on a global status. Antibiotic resistance refers to the ability of bacteria to alter
their genetic material and mutate to avoid destruction by antibiotic medications rendering the drugs
ineffective in fighting infection and disease. This resistance has had tragic effects as numerous of
the resistant infections have resulted in death of the host. Because of the severity of this condition,
organizations and institutions across the globe have been working together to study and examine
the best strategies to combat these resistant bacteriaor sometimes referred to as superbugs . Many
innovations have been proposed and implemented in attempts to rid people of their infections. The
discussion of which approaches are the most effective and cost efficient has been taking place for
decades and is still occurring today along with further investigations of alternatives to antibiotics
altogether. Researchers are also attempting to understand what has caused the problem of antibiotic
resistanceand how this problem has developed. Efforts to contest these bacteria are extremely
important and it is now up to the next generation of health care providers, researchers, and
educators to implement the best ways to keep people healthy. There is much speculation about what
has caused the increased resistance of bacteria to antibiotics and how this problem has developed.

Critical Analysis Of Their Eyes Were Watching God
Brian Sandoval11/11/17
Mr. AmorosoAP Literature Their Eyes Were Watching God LAP Topic 4 To find the elusive and
coveted treasure of love, a dauntless expedition is untaken into life s catacombs, scouring through
the tunnels and evading the traps that lurk in the shadowy corners. This journey can t be
completed without sorrow and suffering yet the marring of the soul from the journey can break a
person s resolve, ultimately believing that the treasure they once sought was merely a fable. Due
to being caught in the trap of despair and hopelessness, survivors mold a chitin from the pain
endured in order to shield themselves from additional pain, often reluctant to peer their head out of
their protective ward. At the same time, by hiding in the confines of a cocoon, they are unable to
view the opportunity and take the plunge once more that may finally reward their sacrifice. Janie
May Crawford, the protagonist of Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
, in her
youth and inexperience goes through many trials and tribulations in the search of love and what it
truly is. Janie paints a beautiful and naГЇve image of love as her dreams and hopes blind her from
reality. The experience garnered from her relationships with her three spouses, the illusion of her
youth is swept, remolding her painting into its true form. Janie, a young woman, began to dwell on

Essay Iconography and Iconology of an Advertisement
Iconography and Iconology of an Advertisement
Looking at the art of the past, we see many images depicting nude women. From Botticelli s The
Birth of Venus to Ingres s Grande Odelisque, many artists like the idea of painting a woman in the
nude in an interesting pose. Even modern images in contemporary magazines depict nude images.
Yves Saint Laurent s advertisementof their fragrance Opium depicts a nude woman covering her
breast. Her pose is a symbol of the iconography, while beauty serves as the iconology. The
understanding of the iconography and iconology of this image by contemporary society comes from
the fact that the nude image was depicted in the great art of the past; however, the fact that society
has become contemporary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, The Birth of Venus has arranged her hands and hair in such a way to hide her
sexuality. The pose of the woman in the advertisement also shows the same thing. She is posed
seductively to show off her body, yet she is covering one breast with her hand. When we think of
nude figures, we think of art pieces in the past that depicted nude women in a certain pose.
Therefore, the pose of the woman in the advertisement owes much to the pose of nude women in art
pieces of the past. Because nudity was depicted in great art of the past, we are not surprised when
we see a nude image in a magazine. Instead, we view nudity as a symbol of beauty.
The real purpose of a nude image is to show the woman s beauty, not her sexuality; this is the
iconology of the image. This image of the woman in a seductive pose in the advertisement is
meant to draw the reader s attention to the product. The advertisers want to show how beautiful
this new fragrance is by having a beautiful nude woman pose for their ad. The art of the past that
depicted nude women were meant to show their beauty also. For example, the statue of Aphrodite
by Praxiteles depicted the goddess in a seductive pose, but the statue was interpreted as a symbol of
enchanting beauty. Beauty is shown through sexuality and seductiveness, as evidenced by the nude
women in the art pieces. This is also shown in the advertisement for the fragrance.
Although the image in the

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers By Emily Dickinson And...
The word hope is often used in moments of despair, more precisely to lift people out of those
moments. For so many, hope is the light at the end of the tunnel, in the moments when it is hard
to get back up it is often this ambiguous term that helps them get up. Of course, all words take on
several meanings, and there are always different ways someone can interpret a word. However,
according to the Oxford Online Dictionary hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a
particular thing to happen (Oxford Dictionaries). More often than not, hope is a feeling rather than
something people express verbally. The poems Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson
and Dare I Hope? by Sophia White both address the term hope. Although... Show more content on

Both of the poems that I previously mentioned are focused around interpreting the term hope. As
seen in the paragraphs before, it is easy to interpret the word in different ways, and that is
precisely what these two poems are doing. Although both poems take their own approach to the
word hope and do not share the same structure, there are some consistencies between each author s
interpretation. Both the poems by Sophia White and Emily Dickinson are centered around hope,
however, the interpretations are very different, using symbols, metaphors and the structure of the
poem to get their points across. The poem Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson
begins its first two lines with a metaphor. That perches in the soul And sings the tune without the
words (2 3). These opening lines bring us into the rest of the poem where the author is describing
the word hope through the metaphor of a bird. Dickinson continues to use metaphors throughout
the poem. Later in the poem, she describes different aspects of hope. And sore must be the storm
/That could abash the little Bird/That kept so many warm (6 8). This section is referring to
difficult times, and telling us that hope does not falter when hardship comes. In this case, hardship
is the storm. She follows this by giving the reader a metaphor for where hope can be

Stereotypes In The Pawnbroker
Holocaust film has emerged as its own genre throughout time. Originally, directors ignored the
possibility of Holocaust films, then the content started to take form in non fiction recordings.
Eventually, the genre of Holocaust film took off and today there is an abundance of Holocaust
related films that appear when one scrolls through movie streaming sites. The Pawnbroker (1964),
directed by Sidney Lumet, is a perfect example of a filmthat deals with both the lasting effect of the
Holocaustand the stereotyping of a multitude of characters. Exploring the Holocaust in media
through The Pawnbroker and The Pawnbroker s film techniques, serve as a prime example for
not only how Holocaust survivors felt emotionally imprisoned, but stereotypes different groups
as well. Critics responded harshly to this stereotypical labeling and this shows how the meaning
of the film has been interpreted by society differently over time. The Pawnbroker details the
struggles of a Jewish pawnbroker, Sol Nazerman, years after his persecution during the
Holocaust. Nazerman spends each day working in a pawnshop, conducting business with uncanny
inhabitants of Harlem. He keeps to himself and never lets anyone in, whether it s a local social
worker or his very own pawn shop apprentice. He is anxious and antisocial, as he is struggling to
come to terms with his past. Nazerman is the only family member to survive the terror and
hardships of concentration camps and he is completely overcome with grief

behavior modifying effects of being the subject of social investigation (Wickstorm Bendix 2000).
The leading man behind the experiments Elton Mayo developed the study to make further inquiry
into what factors affect productivity in the workplace. Ever since the studies were conducted
between 1927 and 1933 (Wickstorm Bendix 2000) there has been much speculation of whether or
not these results should be used to make a fundamental change in the development of management

Stage one of the experiment aimed at examining the effect of changes in working arrangements
upon productivity (Gale 2004). During this stage five girls were transferred from the factory
floor to a special test room where their output of relays was recorded for over two years, during
which a large number of alterations were made to their working conditions (Carey 1967). One of
the changes made was to the illumination values in the factory environment. When the light was
cut down to .06 of a foot candle the girls maintained their efficiency (Carey 1967). They found
that only extremely low illumination caused decreases in levels of production (Broches 2008).
According to Carey (1967) the conclusion came as a great Г©claircissement as the founding s
were quite different from what they had expected. The results identified the importance of social
satisfactions at work and researches were puzzled to observe that productivity continued to rise
regardless of the changes made to the physical working environment. At the end of the two years
the results found that the girls output had increased by about 30 percent (Carey 1967) and
physicians indicated improved workers health and a decrease in absenteeism (Broches 2008). Due

A Reflective Paper On Integration
Reflective Paper: Integration
There will come a day when facing a person who is suffering guilt or shame and their confession
will then require a process for helping. The Spirit of Truth must be central in that decision and thus
the use of Christian Psychology is my current integrative position.
Historic Foundation
Understanding human beings according to historic Christianity is a foundation of this view
(Johnson, 2010 p. 155). There is evidence of psychology embedded in the wisdom of Scripture, as
in Jesus Sermon on the Mount and throughout the New Testament for Jesus dealing with sin and
restoration. The woman at the well, the woman caught in the act of adultery, and Saul/Paul are just
a few examples. In addition, our foundation is set upon an older model than modern psychology or
even classical philosophy.
Integrative Advantages
According to McMinn (2010), one of the advantages is the reflection of diversity and its
implications for counselors as we look through two lenses simultaneously (p. 4), those of tradition
validity and employment in advance of, but not to the exclusion of, empirical science and applied
practice (Johnson, 2010 p. 174). A second advantage is in that of the counselor who demonstrates
the Spirit of Truth, biblical traits of stewardship, shepherding and servanthood and acknowledges
the importance of their faith to their work. Third, as a relational model, the Christian Psychologist
will interact with a variety of other worldviews and operating

Graffiti As A Modern Form Of Art
Art has been a highly valued way of expressing oneself in any culture. Through the use of the
artistic skill one can show the oppression that may be felt from society, or to develop a certain
style that follows what the culture is up to date with and problems that may need some emphasis
to be noticed. Art is not only left for the artistically skilled to do anyone who can develop a
thought and can put artistic meaning on their own creative canvas can be considered an artist.
Graffiti has been considered as an irrational way of property damage called art , or a beautiful
way for the common artist to express their problems, thoughts or ideas. Graffiti should be
considered a modern form of art. Graffiti possesses all the makings to be considered artwork that
can be achieved by anyone and is placed on public walls for all to view and interpret as they feel
accordingly. Graffiti is an art form that the common person can use to express their views, but
graffiti is also an extremely controversial topic in society. Some people believe that public space
should not be destroyed by tagging and graffiti, but the people that think that put graffiti and
tagging in the same category. For example, someone could paint a mural on a public space of a
little girl holding a soldiers hand. This isn t someone destroying a public space, this is someone
making a beautiful representation of their take on what the army is doing for the world. If this
was on a paper canvas it could be put in an art

Hypnotherapy is therapy that is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis.[citation needed]
The word hypnosis (from the Greek hypnos, sleep ) is an abbreviation of James Braid s (1841)
term neuro hypnotism , meaning sleep of the nervous system .
A person who is hypnotized displays certain unusual characteristics and propensities, compared with
a non hypnotized subject, most notably hyper suggestibility, which some authorities have
considered a sine qua non of hypnosis. For example, Clark L. Hull, probably the first major
empirical researcher in the field, wrote,

Whilst Braid differed in offering an explanation of hypnotitc effects that did not rely on supernatual
forces, he credited the methods used in hypnosis to the practice of Mesmerism. Braid said of the
subject:
Hypnotism might therefore not inaptly be designated, Rational Mesmerism, in contra distinction to
the Transcendental Mesmerism of the Mesmerists.[2]
In their original committee report on hypnotherapy, the British Medical Association (BMA),
likewise, made a point of condemning the occult theories of Mesmerism and sharply distinguishing
them from hypnotism.
The Committee, having completed such investigation of hypnotism as time permitted, have to
report that they have satisfied themselves of the genuineness of the hypnotic state. No phenomena
which have come under their observation, however, lend support to the theory of animal magnetism
. ( Report on Hypnotism , British Medical Journal, 1892).
Whereas Mesmerism is a supernatural theory, hypnotism attempted to explain the same phenomena
in terms of psychology and physiology. As Braid puts it, it is a scientific and psycho physiological
(mind body) discipline.
There is no doubt that some individuals have suffered the ill effects of being involved in stage
hypnotic shows. Stage hypnotists use words like magic and control in an attempt to mystify the
effects of hypnosis. In addition, using various tests of hypnotic

Common Estate Case Study
When closing an estate, most states that use a formal probate process, allow for an informal closing
for common estates. These states simplified the probate process for estates that are straightforward;
not complicated or contested. Fortunately, Massachusetts is one of those states. In Massachusetts,
closing an estateusing the simplified probateprocess involves the following tasks:
1)Complete a final inventory of assets.
2)Using the inventory of assets in the final accounting, complete the final accounting.
3)Under cover of an assent form, send copies of the inventory of assets and the final accounting to
each beneficiary.
4)After receiving the signed assent forms from each beneficiary, the executor must sign the form

3)Schedule C Schedule C is the remaining balance of the estate. In common estates, the balance
should be zero. Simply put, the total in Schedule A must equal the total in Schedule B to produce a
zero balance in Schedule C. Furthermore, filling in these schedules with the appropriate values is a
collaborative effort. At times, throughout an estate administration, there are legal matters that the
attorney must handle. If these matters produce income or expenses for the estate, the attorney
should enter those values on the appropriate schedule. So, if the account doesn t balance in the
initial attempts, the attorney will most likely step in to help find any discrepancies if needed.
Once the final accounting balances, then the attorney will continue with the rest of the closing
process mentioned above. At this point, the only remaining task for the executor is to distribute the
rest of the property in the estate after signing the account form.
.
The Informal Closing of an Estate
Although an estate may close informally, it doesn t mean that a probate court won t request
information at a later date. Therefore, the executor should hold on to the original documents related
to the informal closing. In addition, the executor should retain supporting documents related to
entries in the final accounting such as receipts, bank statements, and brokerage statements.
Basically, all an executor needs to do is store all the documentation used to produce the

The records of sacred texts have different themes, meanings, and messages. However, what they all

Prominently, as we know, The Gospelof Mary is not part of the New Testament, yet such guidance

At the beginning of the Gospel, the writings begin with everyone, mourning for Jesus departure,

The Film The Others ( 2001 ) By Alejandro Amenabar
The film The Others (2001) by Alejandro AmenГЎbar is a ghost story based around a family that
believes they are being haunted by spirits in their home but come to realize they have already died
and are haunting the new family that moved to the house. The title of the film refers to servants
that abandoned the house and is used constantly throughout the film to reference the intruders and
other spirits the original family believe are residing there. The main lesson to be learned from the
film is that things are never as they appear which is proven when we find out that the mother,
Grace, killed her own children and is a ghostalong with her children. Since Grace is a ghost
attempting to live in a world where her children are alive, she is living in the past which we find
out leads to her breakdown when she finds out she is already dead. This theme of living in the past
can also be found in Our Town, which is another ghost story.
Our Town (1938) by Thornton Wilder is a play centered around the American lifestyle in 1901
that follows two people as they grow up together, get married and eventually pass away. Each of
the three acts showcase a different period in Emily s and George s life until Emily dies during
childbirth at the beginning of the third act. Then the play shifts to Emily s life as a ghost as she
reflects back on life and learns that you cannot repeat the past. This play, like The Others, features
invisible people but they do not appear to be a threat as they were in

When Lyell s substantive complaint to clear and canny catastrophism, its perceived that the

time s cycle and time s bolt. Lyell was not the white knight of truth and hands on work, but rather

South Park Censorship
Freedom of expression entitles humans to articulate our own unique vocabulary, especially when
their opinions differ from others. South Park is a notorious paragon tackling censorship
boundaries with brilliant wordplay every episode and implementing freedom of speech. For me,
the program serves as a weekly litmus test of censorship and freedom of expression. South Parkis
the brainchild of college friends Trey Parkerand Matt Stone. This TV show, on the Comedy
Central Network, is a cartoon but not for children. On August 13, 1997, the first airing, South Park
became the first major cable program to get the TV MA rating (for mature audiences only). The

South Park wanted to show homage to the French satirical paper that published comedic pictures
of Muhammad. The creators dedicated 200 and 201 to the paper after their own convictions;
both episodes would feature Muhammad as well. Comedy Central received threats of extreme
violence if the prophet Muhammad was displayed in any way on the show. The creative group
behind South Park was prepared to endure the repercussions of their comedy. In 200,
Muhammad is in a truck to include, but exclude the character from vision. I think they were
concerned about the approach of giving in to the ultimatum, and essentially backing down
altogether. The boundaries regarding freedom of expression should not adjust to the whims or
threats of bullies otherwise known as terrorists. The network received more threats of terror and
the morning of the airing of 201, the network censored Muhammad with a giant box all over his
face with CENSORED written on it. There are no copies of 201 uncensored available whatsoever
and you can only watch the episode on the commemorative DVD package of the season. There is

Comparison Between Catullus And Jupiter
Catullus 70 is Catullus questioning his relationship with Cloudia. The poem begins by Catullus
calling his lover mulier, the latin word for a married women. Catullus says that this married women
would marry no other than him. Calling his lover a married woman sets up a tension that Catullus
carries throughout the poem. His lover tells him that she would rather be with him than anyone, but
Catullusspecific example of who she would choose him over is Jupiter. This comparison between
Catullus and Jupiter is interesting because Jupiter was known for being both the supreme god as
well as the god who would rape people. So on the one hand, Catullus is being chosen over the most
supreme god, but on the other hand, Catullus is only being chosen

Media And Mass Media Deviance
Media is the most effective method of mass communication. There are many different sources of
mass media; broadcast, advertising, digital, hypermedia, interactive, multimedia, new media, news
media, print media, published media, recorded media and social media(Dictionary.com 2017).
Considering all the different forms media can take, it isn t all too shocking that media has had an
influence on deviant behaviors. The media s influence though, is attributed to promoting deviance
rather than reducing it. When individuals contemplate the term deviance, they often think of it as
behavior that is inherently bad. Contrary to that belief, deviance is described as a behavior that
departs from the social constructs of a society(Thio 2010). Deviance, criminal or not, is commonly
used amongst mass mediato entertain their viewers. The media relies on their audience s inherent
social constructs to make a profit. Without the meanings attached to these deviant behaviors, there
wouldn t be any motive behind showing them. All things considered, what the media covers and
how much they chose to cover has significantly changed over the years, the most apparent in crime
coverage. This consistent coverage of crime gives the audience an opportunity to interact with the
media. They can feel a part of the intensity of an investigation, cheer on the enforcers, become
immersed in their stereotypes. On the other hand, they can appreciate deviance for its resilience to
overcome and resist

Embedding Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Perspectives
Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the curriculum has now become a
high priority amoungst schools across the nation. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and
Reporting Authority (ACARA) (2013), recognises that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Histories and Cultures cross curriculum priority is designed for all students to engage in
reconciliation, respect and recognition of the world s oldest continuous living cultures . By
including this, the curriculum will continue to see Indigenous culture throughout school become
part of the norm. Furthermore Indigenous Australian perspectives can and should be included in
the classroom and any barriers that arise can be overcome.
There is a height of significance when it comes to embedding Indigenous perspectives in the
curriculum and in schools. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, their
students thrive in educational environments where staff respect and promote strong Indigenous
culture and identity, build collaborative relationships and set high expectations (Kerley, 2015).
Abiding by this principle would see students thriving for higher education, recognizing this has
made it quite common for schools to introduce indigenous programs or units. These are put in place
for the purpose of being extra support to not only Indigenous students but for everyone at school
serving as a source of information and guidance. By incorporating these Units, cross curriculum

Reading And Thought By Dwight Macdonlad
Reading and Thoughts In the essay Reading and Thought , Dwight MacDonlad talked about the
kind of poor reading people are attached to in modern society. MacDonald believed reading
materials such as Times and New York Times are too overwhelming for the readers. Readers tend
to skim through the reading materials because most of the reading do not have any connections
with their daily lives. Moreover, MacDoanld claimed that the readings people do these days are
not thoughtful. The readings are rather irrelevant toward the readers. It is because the journalists to
produce dull pieces of readings which are meant to be skimmed through without having too much
thoughts involved. As the journalists do not have much consideration of the materials they
produced. To the journalists the readings they produce are just a series of news that should be
read driftly and left behind with no thoughful idea needed to be informed. These effects caused
modern society to have a poor reading habits because people do not reflect and give time to think
about the readings they did. Readers casually accept the readings even though they do not have
provide any resourceful information for the readers. Through MacDonald s argument, I agree with
his position in modern society s reading and thoughtprocess. People do have poor reading habits as
the quality of reading starts to rapidly decrease. Nowadays the readings are meant to be done in a

I am connected to God every day who is a superior power. I live an ethical and morally driven life

The Lost World By Sir Conan Doyle
Dinosaurs went extinct on Earth 65 million years ago, and the only remnants of these colossal

dinosaurs lived, and kept surviving after the mass extinction. A Lost World. It was a cold, rainy
March day when I turned on the news and heard something that was very interesting. ...and it
appears that this is apart of some new species of lizard. This was found by a local scientist on the
beaches of Venezuela. This creature has the appearance of a lizard, but it almost reminds you of
a bird. There is no conclusive evidence on where this animal was from. Interesting, I said to
myself. This whole situation sounded somewhat familiar, it sounded like a book I read, but it
was impossible. To give myself some peace of mind, I go to my bookshelf and pull out Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle s, The Lost World. I skim through some of the book and I gasped when it
said something about Venezuela. This couldn t be real, I said to myself. I find my cell phone on
my couch and quick call my paleontologist friend and colleague Dr. Stark. I ask if he had seen the
news footage of the new animal and he said, I have been looking into this for a while now(The

that would geographically match were the new animal came from. I was about to call you before

Minoan Culture Research Paper
The origin of the Mycenaean culture has perplexed many archaeologists for more than a century.
All the information gathered today from archaeologists are merely an approximation. The farther
back archaeologists investigate the harder it is to decipher and validate the history of the Greek
experience. However, the evidence from the Mycenaean period is crucial to the discovery and
unveiling of the development of the Greek culture. Roughly, around 3000 BC on the island of Crete
began the Bronze Age, where Sir Arthur Evans is accredited for the founding of the first
civilization. Most commonly known as the Minoan civilization, dubbed after king Minos, was an
empire in the Mediterranean. However, unlike the Mycenaeans the Minoans were not Greek. In
other words, the Minoan inhabitants were not native to the Greek language, thus deducing that the

Greek society, culture and overall their foundation is accredited to the Indo European lifestyle.
Unlike the Minoans who inhabited the island of Crete, the Mycenaeans were native speakers to

tablets that were different in script. The first tablet, Linear A, contained script that even today
archaeologists are still unable to decode. Therefore, archaeologists believe that Linear A was script
belonging to the early Minoan civilization (Martin 32). Whereas, Linear B, dated much later and
included script that was much simpler to decipher. After much analysis Linear B`s script contains

Marat was sitting in his bathtub, he received a visitor by the name of Charlotte Corday, who had
been refused admittance earlier in the day. She claimed to have vital information on escaped
Girondins and proceeded to list off the names of the missing Girondins. After he had finished
writing out the list, Corday claimed that he told her, It will not be long before they are

Paris . With that statement, Corday retrieved a knife she had brought and plunged it into his chest.
Marat cried out in agony saying Aidez moi, ma chГЁre amie! ( Help me, my dear friend! ) and
died. After Marat s death, Maximilien Robespierre, leader of The Jacobins, was appointed as the
head of The Committee of Public Safetyon July 27, 1793. Although Robespierre was a bourgeoisie,
he identified with the plight of the sans culottes and would become their voice as the revolution
progressed. It was because of this representation that he would become a prominent figure at the
most radical point in the revolution. He defended the principle that the rights of man should extend
to all men including the poor, and the slaves in the colonies. Beginning in the spring of 1792 and
forward, France was in an upheaval. The country was involved in foreign wars, civil war and revolt.
While revolutionaries were planning a new government without the king, counter revolutionaries

The Demise Of The Tobacco Smoking
What some are calling a new fad, may very well be the answer to the demise of the tobacco

Electronic cigarettes, also known as vaporizers, are the better alternative to smoking traditional
tobacco cigarettes. They contain less harmful chemicals, are less expensive, and provide a smoother
transition from smokingcigarettes to not smoking at all. It is difficult to comprehend why
generation after generation of people continue to smoke cigarettes despite the fact they are fully

As the diagram below shows, the tobacco rod is covered by the cigarette paper. The filter plug is
shrouded by the plug wrap paper, and both are joined together by the tipping paper. King size
cigarettes are typically around 80 mm long and 8 mm in diameter, while containing around 750
mg of tobacco. Filter lengths range 25 30 mm. When the end of a cigarette burns, the smoke from
the combustion moves through the unburned tobacco and filter, then inhaled into the user s
mouth and lungs. Some of the most dangerous elements of smoking are a product of the
combustion. Electronic cigarettes can come in many different shapes and sizes and can be
realistic looking or can be in larger forms with batteries and larger tanks. They all use the same
basic concept as the diagram below shows. When an e cigarette is triggered (either by an inhale or
with a button press) the battery connected to the heating element (atomizer) boils a tiny amount of
liquid (e liquid). This creates a vapor which is inhaled by the user. At no point is anything burned
through the process of combustion so no smoke/ash/tar is ever created (Project Vape).
The most obvious reason for kicking the smoking habit, or never picking it up, is the ridiculous
amount of toxic chemicals found in a cigarette or cigarette smoke. There are over 4000 known
chemicals in some form of the cigarette. The most dangerous of the chemicals would be the

2011). At the same time, companies are seeking to better understand the extent to which social
media can and should play a role in customer engagement (Parent, Plangger, and Bal 2011).
Our knowledge regarding social media driven brand consumer engagement and what constitutes
effective social media strategy is only now developing. Although both industry and academic
research has begun to examine the role of social media within firm customer interactions, there is
a continued need for empirical investigation of usage characteristics and behaviors with respect to
social media and online brand engagement, particularly among younger consumers. Accordingly,
our study investigates the role of social media among younger consumers as they actively engage
online with brands spanning the product, service, and media sectors. We administered a written
diary to fifty eight individuals over a one week period in late Fall 2011. Diary data captured
background information on social media usage and recorded 406 discrete company respondent
interactions across two primary social media platforms Facebook and Twitter as well as email.
Email interactions were included in the study because this form of contact is part of the electronic
ecosystem connecting consumers and businesses and is complementary to social media usage.
Our study makes two contributions to the growing body of social media marketing research. First,
we uncover several themes characterizing online brand consumer

Q2. Explain the part played by external pressure in the fight against apartheid and minority rule in
South Africa.
From 1960 onwards, when Harold Macmillan made his change of winds speech, the world started
to place external pressures on South Africa, and this was one of the main causes of the end of
apartheid. Economic sanctions and sporting isolation were the two main subdivisions of external
pressure.
Sporting isolation made South Africa realise that the minority rule and the apartheid regime was
greatly frowned upon by the rest of the world, and caused many Afrikaners to change their attitude
to the way the country was being run; this was because they didn t want to be excluded from the
rest of the world s competitions and tournaments solely for their governments issues; it made the
Afrikaners feel guilty for the regime ruling South Africa. This attitude would eventually help in
ending the apartheid regime.
Economic sanctions, however, were much more effective in the ending of minority rule. Foreign
countries saw South Africa as a risky country to invest in because the sanctions against South Africa
withdrew loans in businesses; businessmen found it harder to have prosperous companies

This would be the easiest way for 3M to use the Greptile Technology; 3M has made a name for
themselves by being innovative using their technology to create out of box products. So my
suggestion for using the Greptile Technology within the Sports and Leisure market would be to
create a new and lighter running shoe that is used on indoor and outdoor tracks for track
competitions. As a former track athlete one of the biggest concerns of track athletes is the traction
that we have on the bottom of our shoes on outdoor tracks especially during the summer track
season.
The Greptile Technology if modified correctly could provide a superior traction when running
on the track and would not wear down as easily as track shoes that are on the market. Using the
technology in a modified state would allow 3M to enter into another submarket of the Sports and
Leisure market and still keep in tack their record of diversified technology and innovation. I am
sure if there were to use the technology for a lighter track shoe with superior traction would be
able to enter into the running shoe market which is estimated to be a $13 billion per year industry.
In my estimation 3M would be able to at least capture a minimum 10% market share if the
technology is superior to what is being offered in the market.
It would be not consist with 3M s business practice to just use this technology in 3M s Sports and

any given market, the quantity of a product demanded by consumers does not equate to the
quantity supplied by suppliers. This is a direct result of a lack of certain economically ideal factors,
which prevents equilibrium.
Some major reasons that a free, unregulated market in medical care might night be optimal are:

1B. In the real world, a perfectly competitive market rarely exists. One or more assumptions are
violated in most markets and this is certainly the case in the pharmaceutical market. * Monopoly
Power. Pharmacists often face questions from patients regarding how prices of medications are
determined and why, in some cases, they are so expensive. Unlike markets for other goods, in the
pharmaceutical marketplace there are a limited number of manufacturers and the medication being
sold are not identical, but rather are differentiated. There is a guarantee via patent protection that
no potential competitor may manufacture an identical drug and sell it at a lower price in the short
run. As a result, the branded manufacturer is able to make profits. Since there is only one seller,
the monopolist determines the price of the medicine. This establishes the monopolist as a price
setter, permitting prices above the perfectly competitive price by controlling the quantity of
medication produced in the marketplace. This is in stark contrast to being a price taker, and
accepting a price established within a perfectly competitive marketplace. The end result is that
prices are higher under these market conditions than they would be in a purely competitive
marketplace. * Barriers to Entry. A number of factors allow a pharmaceutical manufacturer to act as

The Female Characters Of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The female characters in Frankenstein represent the treatment of women in the early 1800 s.
Women who are deprived of their female roles and are enclosed in a feminine sphere of
domesticity. In the novel, Frankenstein, the women characters are treated as property and have
little privileges in relationship to the malecharacters, the women suffer and are eventually destroyed
showing how unimportant they are in the book s society, and when it comes to reproduction of
humans, man thinks it pointless to have women play that role. These attacks on the innocent prove
that women are second rate in the novel.
The women in Frankenstein are forced to be submissive. Victor treats Elizabeth more like a
possession or object instead of a living, breathing human being. Elizabeth is passive around
Victor. She and other women of the novel, are accepting of the male controlled society being the
powerful figure because that is what they were raised to follow (Kolker). Men withdraw the
women of their rights thus the women are forced to act well mannered. Like Elizabeth s
destruction, the monsterette s creation and destruction dramatize how women do not function in
their own right but rather as signs and conduits for men s relations with other men (Smith 323).
Elizabeth possesses herself as being quiet and calm. This quiet behavior adds to the fact that she is
a possession and not an individual. All praises bestowed on her, I received as made to a possession
of my own (Shelly 44).

kept on marching (18). A few threatened to kill him and his family. His house was bombed. His
brother s house was bombed. But he refused to stop (21). These two quotes shows that this story
answers the question, when is a risk worth taking, because Martin never stopped marching, taking a
risk that put his entire family in danger. He wanted to fight for equal rights even if that meant he
lost everything he owned. He wanted freedom for everyone, no matter what the color. Every time.
That is the answer to the question. When is a risk worth taking? All the time when you are
fighting for what you believe in. As long as you are fighting for something you believe in, you
should take all the risks you can to get what you are fighting for. To sum up, the story Martin s
Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by Doreen Rappaport shows very clearly that
a risk is worth taking whenever you are fighting for something you believe in. It also shows the
central idea of progress because since Martin took that risk, he made progress for black

Former Foster Youth Essay
One of the most pressing issues facing foster youth in America is employment following
emancipation. Former foster youth face many challenges in becoming self sufficient adults due to
the lack of a support system that a traditional family would provide for their children. There is an
insufficient safety net for a particularly vulnerable group and the statistics reflect poor care for
this demographic. By age 24, roughly half of all former foster youth are unemployed; those who
are employed earn a median income of $7,500 annually. In their first four years following their
aging outof foster care, more than half will be homeless or in a shelter at some point; up to 70%
will be reliant on government assistance.

Immense government expenditures are used in the assistance of these individuals, but often fail to
translate to success and independence following emancipation. The iFoster jobs program aims to
fill this gap and connect educated and trained former foster youth with respectable employers in
need of qualified individuals. The iFoster organization has laid out a roadmap that illustrates its
process of connecting these individuals with employers and has shown success with 250 youths
thus far. First, iFoster networks with employers and assesses their needs and what they look for in
employees. Then, they set a youth training program tailored to those needs. The individuals are
then trained and provided with resources including courses, professional clothes for interviews,
transportation, etc. These individuals are then assessed and analyzed for the job that best fits their
qualifications and preferences. The individuals receive support through the interviewing and hiring
process and receive ongoing support following beginning work. Regular check ins and
communication with the employers ensure that these youths are excelling at work and that their
needs are being

A Lot Of People See Gun Control In Every Way, Shape And
A lot of people see gun control in every way, shape and form as taking a bit of our freedom away.
Others do not have an issue with gun control. Gun control is an issue of safety, education, race,
and politics. Most gun owning Americans believe that just because certain people do not know
how to use their freedom of having control over their own guns does not mean everyone else
should have their freedom of gun control and ownership taken away by liberal politicians, most
who have not even owned or shot a gun in their whole entire life. The Second Amendment of the
United StatesConstitutions says that the people have the right to bear arms and it is not to be
infringed. There is a reason why it is in the Bill of Rights and there is also a... Show more content

Therefore, when a person is going to commit a crime upon someone they might think twice
about what they are going to do, because they have no idea if that person is carrying a gun or
not. The United States has become very restrictive when granting a person to own guns. Certain
states have come up with the Shall Issue law, which prevents anyone to own, or carry firearms if
that person has a criminal record with a felony or has a mental disorder. Many states even require a
permit to carry a concealed gun in public.
Most people learn about responsibility during their childhood and what they learn reflects what
they do and how they act when they get older and become adults. Children that live in a good
household tend to have better understandings of life and respect other people and their lives.
Children would also have a better idea of recreation, for example hunting, and for a mean of
protection from criminals. On the other hand, the children who grow up in problematic homes and
that have uncaring parents, who are usually criminals themselves, tend to turn to crime. They are
just doing what they believe is right, since that is how they were raised. So, we need to educate
children about the potential dangers of firearms if they are not respected and treated with care.
Most Americans who believe that more guns equal more crime are afraid of the people who carry
guns in public places, open

Scarlet Fever Dbq
The industrial revolution in the 19th century brought about a huge population exodus from the
countryside into the cities by people seeking work. The massive influx forced the labouring
classes to live in slums, where overcrowding was a key factor and where the spread of diseases
such as diphtheria and scarlet fever were an ever present threat. The small houses could be home
for as many as ten people, all living together in small unventilated rooms. Between the rows of
terraced houses there were open drains and rubbish where children played, and water came from
wells that were often polluted. The poor living conditions, long working hours in the mills, and low
pay, all contributed to the general ill health of the population and the frequent spread of disease.

Scarlet fever and diphtheria among many others were two of the most common diseases to effect
children in the early part of the 1900s. Scarlet fever occurred mainly in those between the ages of 2
and 8, and was spread by droplets from carriers and affected individuals. Despite sore throat,
headache, and fever, with red spots in the mouth and on the body, children would often continue to
play with friends in the street and to mix with neighbours, thus allowing the disease to spread.
Diphtheria was likewise highly contagious, generally affecting the throat but occasionally other
mucous membranes and the skin. The principal treatment was isolation. Patients were taken from
their homes and isolated in special fever hospitals for up to six weeks. This allowed time for their
own immune system to fight off the infection and limited the risk of contamination between
patients and

Multiple Definitions Of Being Intentional
Intentional Intentional can have multiple definitions. The definition, to me, that describes it the
most is to do something on purpose. I have so far been very intentional this school year. By
studying hard, and listening more in class. I am intentionally trying to make even better grades. I
have also been intentional when it comes to my friendships with friends. I have been spending
more time with them. I have been intentionally trying to have better friendships with them.
Something I need to work on is being more intentional with behaving better in class. I have a
problem with talking, and easily having an attitude when I do not need to have one. I also need to
work on being more intentional when it comes to obeying my parents. I really

Colonization Of The British Colonies
Soon after the discovery of the Americas in 1492, various European powers raced to colonize the
New World in order to accumulate more wealth, become a global power, and spread religion. The
four most powerful and prominent empires that colonized the Americas were the Spanish, British,
Dutch, and French. The British colonies attracted far more immigrants than the others because the
British colonies were allowed freedom of religion as compared to the strictly Catholic French, the
Spanish poor relations with the native population, and the Dutch colony quickly eroded because of
poor government. The Dutch colony found in present day New York failed and was easily
conquered by the British in 1664 because the living and economic conditions were poor compared
to British colonies. Unlike the British colonies, the New Netherlandswere not a major part of the
Dutch colonial empire. The New Netherlands was used primarily for fur trade. The Dutch colonies
could offer settlers freedom of religion, and the right to self govern. However, around the time that
the British took control of the Dutch colony, most of the residents had grievances about living
there. One of the leaders of the community, Adriaen Van Der Donck described their colony to be in
ruin because of the poor government. Their trade was greatly restricted to the point which there
was almost no market at all, and the majority of the settlers had grown tired of the inclusivity of the
Dutch colony because many of them had

Similarities Between Splendor And Triumph
Many of us have heard of problems with Carnival Cruises in recent years. A major incident
happened in 2010 when an engine fire aboard Carnival Splendor caused the ship to be stranded
200 miles off the coast of California. Since then, many Carnival cruises have faced similar issues.
Carnival Triumph had a fire on board in February of 2013. Then, in March of the same year,
Carnival Legend had problems with increasing their ships speed. There are always risks when
going on a cruise, but could Carnival have avoided the problems that happened? There are many
similarities between the Splendor and Triumph incidents. Both ships had a fire on board that
damaged important parts. The engineers on Splendor were able to control the fire, but back up

Sports Event Management Of The Participation Of People At...
Event Management
Sports event management is the management of the participation of people to an organized time
limited event. Events showcase to the public the image of a given sport and its teams hence it is
crucial that a favorable image during major events be portrayed. The importance of event
organizing is reflected in the move taken by many local authorities to appoint event officers in their
respective departments (Watt, 2003). Even in small local authoritative organization at least one
person will have event management as their job role, this is largely due to their relevance to sports
event management (Watt, 2003). Sports events are not just organized for all the obvious reasons,
they are sometimes held to feel the market, used by politicians for publicity, to set up market,
create public awareness and so on. It has also been used in the UK to encourage urban development
as money gets invested in the market where the event is held (Watt, 2003). A well thought sports
event is an incentive to organizers, participants, and owners of teams. In addition to this the venue,
funding, time table, selection of people, and evaluation of event also need to be decided upon
(Watt, 2003).

Defined properly, model minority refers to minority groups that have rates of socio economic assimilation and achieved a high level of success in today s western society. The term has been used most often to describe Asian Americans, group seen as having attained economic and education success at significantly higher rates than that of other minority groups. Although first coined by sociologist William Petersen in 1966, the term model minority was not popularized and nationalized as a reference to Asian Americans through radio and television outlets, and even some academics until the mid 1970s. The Condition of Children Orange County report states that in the 2011 2012 academic year, 7.4% of Asian students dropped out of high school, which is higher than their white peers (4.6%). Because of this, many schools do not accurately monitor, record, and report the dropout rates among Asian Americans. As a result, many school districts throughout the nation do not realize the significant number of Asian students they are losing because of a stereotype (Walker Moffat, 1995). In addition to underachievement and growing dropout rates among Asian Americans, the increasing socioeconomic gap between Asians and whites also made the model minority stereotype problematic. According to U.S. Census Bureau, the poverty rates among Asian Americangroups (12.6%) remain elevated compared to that of their white counterparts and the overall national average (12.4%). The negative effects of the model minority myth and stereotypes are also evident in secondary and post graduate education. Research shows that the false representation of Asian students has evolved into the inaccurate view and additional stereotype that Asian students achieve their success through dishonest means and threaten the success of their academic peers (Suzuki, 2002). For example, the increased profiling of Asian students in higher education has resulted in directly adverse learning environments that place additional negative views on their success (Yeh, 2002). Critical Analysis Of Their Eyes Were Watching God Brian Sandoval11/11/17 Mr. AmorosoAP Literature Their Eyes Were Watching God LAP Topic 4 To find the elusive and coveted treasure of love, a dauntless expedition is untaken into life s catacombs, scouring through the tunnels and evading the traps that lurk in the shadowy corners. This journey can t be completed without sorrow and suffering yet the marring of the soul from the journey can break a person s resolve, ultimately believing that the treasure they once sought was merely a fable. Due to being caught in the trap of despair and hopelessness, survivors mold a chitin from the pain endured in order to shield themselves from additional pain, often reluctant to peer their head out of their protective ward. At the same time, by hiding in the confines of a cocoon, they are unable to view the opportunity and take the plunge once more that may finally reward their sacrifice. Even modern images in contemporary magazines depict nude images. Yves Saint Laurent s advertisementof their fragrance Opium depicts a nude woman covering her breast. The pose of the woman in the advertisement also shows the same thing. She is posed seductively to show off her body, yet she is covering one breast with her hand. When we think of nude figures, we think of art pieces in the past that depicted nude women in a certain pose. Therefore, the pose of the woman in the advertisement owes much to the pose of nude women in art pieces of the past. Because nudity was depicted in great art of the past, we are not surprised when we see a nude image in a magazine. Instead, we view nudity as a symbol of beauty. The real purpose of a nude image is to show the woman s beauty, not her sexuality; this is the iconology of the image. This image of the woman in a seductive pose in the advertisement is meant to draw the reader s attention to the product. The advertisers want to show how beautiful this new fragrance is by having a beautiful nude woman pose for their ad. The art of the past that depicted nude women were meant to show their beauty also. Although both poems take their own approach to the word hope and do not share the same structure, there are some consistencies between each author s interpretation. Both the poems by Sophia White and Emily Dickinson are centered around hope, however, the interpretations are very different, using symbols, metaphors and the structure of the poem to get their points across. The poem Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson begins its first two lines with a metaphor. That perches in the soul And sings the tune without the words (2 3). These opening lines bring us into the rest of the poem where the author is describing the word hope through the metaphor of a bird. Dickinson continues to use metaphors throughout the poem. Later in the poem, she describes different aspects of hope. And sore must be the storm /That could abash the little Bird/That kept so many warm (6 8). Exploring the Holocaust in media through The Pawnbroker and The Pawnbroker s film techniques, serve as a prime example for not only how Holocaust survivors felt emotionally imprisoned, but stereotypes different groups as well. • 12. A Reflective Paper On Integration Reflective Paper: Integration There will come a day when facing a person who is suffering guilt or shame and their confession will then require a process for helping. The Spirit of Truth must be central in that decision and thus the use of Christian Psychology is my current integrative position. Historic Foundation Understanding human beings according to historic Christianity is a foundation of this view (Johnson, 2010 p. 155). There is evidence of psychology embedded in the wisdom of Scripture, as in Jesus Sermon on the Mount and throughout the New Testament for Jesus dealing with sin and restoration. The woman at the well, the woman caught in the act of adultery, and Saul/Paul are just a few examples. In addition, our foundation is set upon an older model than modern psychology or even classical philosophy. Integrative Advantages According to McMinn (2010), one of the advantages is the reflection of diversity and its implications for counselors as we look through two lenses simultaneously (p. 4), those of tradition validity and employment in advance of, but not to the exclusion of, empirical science and applied practice (Johnson, 2010 p. 174). A second advantage is in that of the counselor who demonstrates the Spirit of Truth, biblical traits of stewardship, shepherding and servanthood and acknowledges the importance of their faith to their work. Third, as a relational model, the Christian Psychologist will interact with a variety of other worldviews and operating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The title of the film refers to servants that abandoned the house and is used constantly throughout the film to reference the intruders and other spirits the original family believe are residing there. The main lesson to be learned from the film is that things are never as they appear which is proven when we find out that the mother, Grace, killed her own children and is a ghostalong with her children. Since Grace is a ghost attempting to live in a world where her children are alive, she is living in the past which we find out leads to her breakdown when she finds out she is already dead. This theme of living in the past can also be found in Our Town, which is another ghost story. Our Town (1938) by Thornton Wilder is a play centered around the American lifestyle in 1901 that follows two people as they grow up together, get married and eventually pass away. Each of the three acts showcase a different period in Emily s and George s life until Emily dies during childbirth at the beginning of the third act. The creative group behind South Park was prepared to endure the repercussions of their comedy. In 200, Muhammad is in a truck to include, but exclude the character from vision. I think they were concerned about the approach of giving in to the ultimatum, and essentially backing down altogether. The boundaries regarding freedom of expression should not adjust to the whims or threats of bullies otherwise known as terrorists. The network received more threats of terror and the morning of the airing of 201, the network censored Muhammad with a giant box all over his face with CENSORED written on it. There are many different sources of mass media; broadcast, advertising, digital, hypermedia, interactive, multimedia, new media, news media, print media, published media, recorded media and social media(Dictionary.com 2017). Considering all the different forms media can take, it isn t all too shocking that media has had an influence on deviant behaviors. The media s influence though, is attributed to promoting deviance rather than reducing it. When individuals contemplate the term deviance, they often think of it as behavior that is inherently bad. Contrary to that belief, deviance is described as a behavior that departs from the social constructs of a society(Thio 2010). Deviance, criminal or not, is commonly used amongst mass mediato entertain their viewers. The media relies on their audience s inherent social constructs to make a profit. Without the meanings attached to these deviant behaviors, there wouldn t be any motive behind showing them. Embedding Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Perspectives Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the curriculum has now become a high priority amoungst schools across the nation. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) (2013), recognises that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross curriculum priority is designed for all students to engage in reconciliation, respect and recognition of the world s oldest continuous living cultures . By including this, the curriculum will continue to see Indigenous culture throughout school become part of the norm. Furthermore Indigenous Australian perspectives can and should be included in the classroom and any barriers that arise can be overcome. There is a height of significance when it comes to embedding Indigenous perspectives in the curriculum and in schools. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, their students thrive in educational environments where staff respect and promote strong Indigenous culture and identity, build collaborative relationships and set high expectations (Kerley, 2015). Abiding by this principle would see students thriving for higher education, recognizing this has made it quite common for schools to introduce indigenous programs or units. Unlike markets for other goods, in the pharmaceutical marketplace there are a limited number of manufacturers and the medication being sold are not identical, but rather are differentiated. There is a guarantee via patent protection that no potential competitor may manufacture an identical drug and sell it at a lower price in the short run. • 44. A Lot Of People See Gun Control In Every Way, Shape And A lot of people see gun control in every way, shape and form as taking a bit of our freedom away. Others do not have an issue with gun control. Gun control is an issue of safety, education, race, and politics. Most gun owning Americans believe that just because certain people do not know how to use their freedom of having control over their own guns does not mean everyone else should have their freedom of gun control and ownership taken away by liberal politicians, most who have not even owned or shot a gun in their whole entire life. The Second Amendment of the United StatesConstitutions says that the people have the right to bear arms and it is not to be infringed. There is a reason why it is in the Bill of Rights and there is also a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, when a person is going to commit a crime upon someone they might think twice about what they are going to do, because they have no idea if that person is carrying a gun or not. The United States has become very restrictive when granting a person to own guns. Certain states have come up with the Shall Issue law, which prevents anyone to own, or carry firearms if that person has a criminal record with a felony or has a mental disorder. Many states even require a permit to carry a concealed gun in public. Most people learn about responsibility during their childhood and what they learn reflects what they do and how they act when they get older and become adults. Children that live in a good household tend to have better understandings of life and respect other people and their lives. Children would also have a better idea of recreation, for example hunting, and for a mean of protection from criminals. On the other hand, the children who grow up in problematic homes and that have uncaring parents, who are usually criminals themselves, tend to turn to crime. They are just doing what they believe is right, since that is how they were raised. So, we need to educate children about the potential dangers of firearms if they are not respected and treated with care. Most Americans who believe that more guns equal more crime are afraid of the people who carry guns in public places, open ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Scarlet Fever Dbq The industrial revolution in the 19th century brought about a huge population exodus from the countryside into the cities by people seeking work. The massive influx forced the labouring classes to live in slums, where overcrowding was a key factor and where the spread of diseases such as diphtheria and scarlet fever were an ever present threat. The small houses could be home for as many as ten people, all living together in small unventilated rooms. Between the rows of terraced houses there were open drains and rubbish where children played, and water came from wells that were often polluted. The poor living conditions, long working hours in the mills, and low pay, all contributed to the general ill health of the population and the frequent spread of disease. Lowry met such sights every day and they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scarlet fever and diphtheria among many others were two of the most common diseases to effect children in the early part of the 1900s. Scarlet fever occurred mainly in those between the ages of 2 and 8, and was spread by droplets from carriers and affected individuals. Despite sore throat, headache, and fever, with red spots in the mouth and on the body, children would often continue to play with friends in the street and to mix with neighbours, thus allowing the disease to spread. Diphtheria was likewise highly contagious, generally affecting the throat but occasionally other mucous membranes and the skin. The principal treatment was isolation. Patients were taken from their homes and isolated in special fever hospitals for up to six weeks. This allowed time for their own immune system to fight off the infection and limited the risk of contamination between patients and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Multiple Definitions Of Being Intentional Intentional Intentional can have multiple definitions. The definition, to me, that describes it the most is to do something on purpose. I have so far been very intentional this school year. By studying hard, and listening more in class. I am intentionally trying to make even better grades. I have also been intentional when it comes to my friendships with friends. I have been spending more time with them. I have been intentionally trying to have better friendships with them. Something I need to work on is being more intentional with behaving better in class. I have a problem with talking, and easily having an attitude when I do not need to have one. I also need to work on being more intentional when it comes to obeying my parents. I really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Colonization Of The British Colonies Soon after the discovery of the Americas in 1492, various European powers raced to colonize the New World in order to accumulate more wealth, become a global power, and spread religion. The four most powerful and prominent empires that colonized the Americas were the Spanish, British, Dutch, and French. The British colonies attracted far more immigrants than the others because the British colonies were allowed freedom of religion as compared to the strictly Catholic French, the Spanish poor relations with the native population, and the Dutch colony quickly eroded because of poor government. The Dutch colony found in present day New York failed and was easily conquered by the British in 1664 because the living and economic conditions were poor compared to British colonies. Unlike the British colonies, the New Netherlandswere not a major part of the Dutch colonial empire. The New Netherlands was used primarily for fur trade. The Dutch colonies could offer settlers freedom of religion, and the right to self govern. However, around the time that the British took control of the Dutch colony, most of the residents had grievances about living there. One of the leaders of the community, Adriaen Van Der Donck described their colony to be in ruin because of the poor government. Their trade was greatly restricted to the point which there was almost no market at all, and the majority of the settlers had grown tired of the inclusivity of the Dutch colony because many of them had ... • 49. Sports Event Management Of The Participation Of People At... Event Management Sports event management is the management of the participation of people to an organized time limited event. Events showcase to the public the image of a given sport and its teams hence it is crucial that a favorable image during major events be portrayed. The importance of event organizing is reflected in the move taken by many local authorities to appoint event officers in their respective departments (Watt, 2003). Even in small local authoritative organization at least one person will have event management as their job role, this is largely due to their relevance to sports event management (Watt, 2003). Sports events are not just organized for all the obvious reasons, they are sometimes held to feel the market, used by politicians for publicity, to set up market, create public awareness and so on. It has also been used in the UK to encourage urban development as money gets invested in the market where the event is held (Watt, 2003).
