Analysis Of Better Than Hum Our Jobs By Kevin Kelly
Christian Lous Lange once said, Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. Many would
agree, as modern day scientists threaten that robots are taking over our jobs more and more everyday.
While many are discomforted by this idea, author Kevin Kelly is intrigued with this idea in his article,
Better Than Human: Why Robots Will⎼And Must⎼Take Our Jobs, saying that increasing technology
in the workplace will benefit our society by increasing productivity. In his article, Kelly uses specific
examples and tones in an attempt to relate to his audience, but fails to present an argument that forces
others to trust in the takeover of technology. Kelly uses an academic, humorous tone in an attempt to
appeal to his audience, but instead, sends a sarcastic message to the readers. For example, Kelly wrote,

Kelly claims that no matter what your current job or your salary, you will progress through these
Seven Stages of Robot Replacement... (311), beginning with denial that a robot could do our jobs,
then slowly accepting that these machines are capable of our everyday tasks, and more. Kelly thinks
we will believe that we are needed when the machine breaks down, but the technology is apparently
flawless. After figuring out that this technology can do our old jobs better than we can, we realize that
we did not like our job and we are much happier now that we have moved on from our old boring job.
What Kelly fails to realize is that several people do not detest their jobs, and robots cannot do every
job that humans can do. Some jobs, including social work and criminal investigation, cannot solely be
done by machines. It is seemingly impossible. Therefore, Kelly s argument is invalid and cannot be
used when arguing whether or not technology should be allowed to takeover the

Analysis Of Blind Light

Viewing Review Blind Light
The film Blind Light by Sarah Pucill is an experimental 16mm film that was presented as a part of the
Cinematheque s Studio DIM Cinema . This twenty two minute film, made in 2007, consists of a series
of long, slow shots of the sky from the interior of a studio loft. In these shots, the filmmaker gradually
adjusts the exposure and zoom, affecting the brightness levels and perspective. Pucill also controls the
shot by closing and opening the blinds on the windows being looked out of. Additionally, the audio on
the film is largely absent with only a few short comments and outside noise sporadically throughout.
This film creates a lonely and isolated atmosphere with it s use of durational shots, absence of action
and bare setting. Narration is also used to further this effect. For example, after the long period of
silence at the beginning of the film, the artist says in a calm voice I can t look, so I ll shut it out . The
nature of this phrase expresses a sense of defeat, which can be interpreted literally, in terms of the
brightness of the light coming from outside as well as metaphorically, referring to a painful experience
or difficult situation that might be easier to disregard than address. Following this statement, the
second line is I want to see the sun, to be blinded , which contradicts the former, though follows a
similar theme, evident of a troubled mindset.

The State Employee Retirement System
Introduction: For Massachusetts state employees, like myself, there is one big decision that has to be
made after being employed. That decision is if you are going to select the State Employee Retirement
System (MSERS), or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). Upon employment, any contributions are
immediately put into the MSRES system; the employee has 180 days to indicate that he/she would
like to switch over to the ORP. Once the decision is made it is irreversible. Because there is no
reversing this decision, it is a decision that employees spend time thinking about what the best long
term decision is. Defined Benefit vs. Defined Contribution These two programs are different in that
the MSERS is a defined benefit plan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It may also be structured as a profit sharing plan. This is a plan in which the employers can make the
decision of how much to contribute each year. Unlike the money purchase pension plan, which
requires a fixed amount to be contributed, the contributions in a profit sharing plan is usually in
proportion of the employees pay. MSERS Plan The SERS plan, which is a defined benefit system, has
calculations made on retirement benefits that are based upon combining the number of years served in
addition to age. All employees in the pension plan have monthly contributions taken out of their pay
check; all of their contributions are deposited into an annuity account. The amount that is contributed
is defined by when state service is started. For new state employees, contribution percentages are set
at 9% of the salary. There are regulations to how much can be contributed. If the employee makes
$30,000 or more, there is an extra 2% added. Employees who have signed up for MSERS, are vested
at age 55 after serving 10 years, or at any age with 20 years of service. At the time of retirement, the
employee is eligible for monthly retirement benefits for the rest of their life. Vesting means the
employee is entitled to the retirement benefits under the plan. Under the SERS plan, the retirement
income is predictable. This is due to the

Negotiation Is Important And Vital Skill Today s Modern...
Introduction: Negotiation is an important and vital skill in today s modern world. In the famous words
of John F. Kennedy, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate (Kennedy).
Our words hold a great deal of power, and how we use them is important as well. Through negotiation,
common ground can be discovered and uncovered, making strives for a better future. Negotiation: In
our set of lecture notes, there is an entire lecture devoted to negotiation and the two kinds of
negotiation distributive and integrative. Distribute negotiation is defined as a win or lose negotiation,
where sides compete over the distribution of a fixed amount (Smith). The second sort of negotiation,
integrative, is defined as a win ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both sides must be creative at coming up with things that are good for both of you (Smith). A website
called Entrepreneur discusses the big points to have down before approaching a negotiation.
Preparation is key, and know the party you are negotiating with. Have a strategy, and know your offer
and reasoning behind it. Lastly, go for a win win solution. Your goal should be to secure a good deal
without extracting the last pound of flesh from the other party (Sanibel). Situation: I live in an
apartment with two other ladies, one of which is very messy, rude, and immature. Truth be told she is
not mature enough to be living on her own, however, somehow she scrapes the money together each
month to live here. The situation with my roommate, Mia, is that she constantly disrespects this
apartment and those who live here. She never locks the front door, she lets dishes pile up in the sink
for weeks, and she never cleans up after cooking until days later. To top it all off, she recently has
dropped out of college, so she now does not have school to concentrate on, leaving her life to be one
big party. As of late, I have been woken up multiple times in the middle of the night because of the
high noise of her get togethers at 4 in the morning. This is only one example of many; needless to say,
living with Mia is a challenge. I have done my best to overlook the issues and to stick to myself. It is
becoming absolutely unbearable living with her, and change must

Narwhal Poem
Narwhal
The ocean was still and smooth, like a black mirror reflecting ivory clouds and cyan shadows. In it, a
pale blue whale of immense size surfaced and swam gently, like a dropping tear on a cheek.
All the misery from around the world was drawn to the sea and formed its ripples. The whale
swallowed the grief silently, from the northeast to the southwest, and the world was quiet and
peaceful.
Over time, the whale could no longer bear and hold the sorrows inside his body. The pain transformed
and twisted into a long, grey tooth; it pierced through his forehead like a unicorn s horn.
One day, people saw this anguished whale from the shore. They were amazed by a creature they had
never seen before. They gazed at his splendid horn, and a strong greed grew inside of their hearts.
People took boats, wood, and anything that could let them float. They surrounded the whale and
trapped him, but the whale was too huge to be carried. So, they used thick ropes to hitch his head, ...

The ocean was angry. It continued to move restlessly; it swept and devoured numerous lives. Humans,
however, were ignorant of the change.
Now, the horn hung in the centre of the city. People took pride in it and cheered, never knowing that it
was the pain of the whale.
Time passed by. A sailor was drowning in the fierce ocean from shipwreck. He struggled and tried to
stay afloat, but desperation and death were stronger than him. When he was ready to give, he saw an
island a short distance away. With his last ounce of strength, he swam to the island and pulled himself
onto the beach. He lay prone on the sand, and couldn t believe that he was still alive.
When he lifted his head up, the forest soughed in the breeze. The subtle comfort slowed his breath and
brought him an inner peace he had never felt before.
The sailor didn t know that the magnificent whale s body had floated up from the bottom of the sea
and transformed, creating the island that was now his

Application Of Management Information Systems
Management Information Systems
Businesses have used computers since the 1950s to assist in the operation of daily activities.
Accounting tasks were the first to be solved with computers, which started the process of developing
information systems. The early computers were large and bulky and took up the space of an entire
room. Typically these computers can only handle one task at a time and were only allowed to be used
by one user at a time. Today technology is all around us and used on a day to day basis. This
information is so vast that it requires a management process to keep it organized and in order. With the
implementation of a personal computer, also known as a PC, along with networking, multi user
systems and applications, allows users to enter their own data, and has relieved most of the original
computer problems of data input and processing. According to Wikipedia management information
systems, also abbreviated as MIS, is the study of people, technology, organizations and the
relationships among them. Our book elaborates stating that management information systems is a
specific form of information technology that managers utilize to generate the specific, detailed
information they need to perform their roles effectively. Since the subject is so broad with this paper
we are going to take a look at what materials are covered within Management Information Systems
and why these are important. The materials discussed with be managing data resources, business

Bugs Bunny Commercial Analysis
Imagine audiences sitting in the movie theater trying to escape from the looming hardships of World
War II. They sit and watch as the commercials begin to play when one of the most familiar tunes in
animation begins. The commercial presents itself deceptively using the classic Looney Tunes curtain
opening and theme music with the simple title of Bugs Bunny. The only hint at the true purpose of
advertising at this point is the producer listing of the U.S. Treasury Dept. Defense Savings Staff. The
curtains quickly open with an approaching Bugs Bunny miming the fife with his carrot as The Girl I
Left Behind plays in the background. This is all set against a redrawing of the classic American
painting The Spirit of 76. Bugs Bunny then begins to eat the carrot he s been holding, when he
suddenly begins the song Any Bonds Today? . Suddenly, the purpose of the commercial is finally
revealed to the audience, with Bugs song telling people to buy war bonds. All throughout this he
gestures, points and moves with an animated flair for the audience. He even exits and reenters frame
with an Uncle Sam costume, eventually beginning to act like he s passing out bonds to the audience.
Until, with an animated twirl Bugs Bunny appears with blackface and a different singing voice, a
parody of the blackface performance Al Jolson did in the movie The Jazz Singer. Finally, the picture
pulls in close on Bugs face as he wipes away the paint and once the picture pulls back out the
backdrop has changed. It shows a combat scene full of planes and ships as Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig
appear to help close the advertisement with singing and dancing. As the song ends a simple war bonds
ad pulls into frame. It now presents a Minuteman on the left and texts that reads For Defense Buy
United States Savings Bonds and Stamps. The commercial relies heavily on its ethos and pathos to
convince the audience into buying war bonds, using very little logos.
Furthermore, ethos is used by the commercial with the use of Bugs Bunny as the appeal for the
audience. At this time in American history Bugs Bunny was one the most famous animated characters
often considered fun for the whole family. Also with most fathers gone off to fight in the war the

The Pear Tree In The Full Tree Of Janie s Life
Josie Atkinson
Full Circle The pear tree that Janie sits under is a metaphoric representation of the cycles of her life:
budding, growing, dying, and being reborn. Each relationship represents another cycle that she faces,
and it is also the catalyst for her pursuit of self discovery. She is captivated by the way the bee
interacts with the tree and identifies it as an ideally harmonious relationship. Janie is stirred
tremendously by the tree because it intoxicates her with the beautiful interactions of nature (10). The
bee and the tree symbolize a union in which there is neither control nor command, but rather an
effortless interaction. She becomes enthralled with the concept of harmony and embarks on a journey
to find the perfect relationship between her and a man. As the motif reoccurs, it parallels the growth of
Janie s expectations of a relationship and who she shares it with; she longs for the man who she can
experience harmony with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nanny is adamant about instilling a belief that Janie s voice matters, but misguides her and forces her
into a controlling marriage. She underestimates Janie s ability to create her own path in life, and thus
acts counterproductively for her granddaughter by aiding in silencing the voice that she gave Janie as
a child. Nanny s determination that her granddaughter will be married is characteristic of an ex slave
because, to her, it is the only way that Janie can survive. Nanny and Logan Killicks cycle happen
simultaneously; Nanny dies and she leaves her husband in search of things sweet with [her] marriage,
like when you sit under a pear tree and think (24). She attempts to shed toxicity and acquiescence, but
Janie undergoes another unhealthy marriage cycle with Joe Starks, who [takes] the bloom out of

The Royal Military College as an Instrument for Molding...
The Royal Military College as an Instrument for Molding Military Offices
To view the Royal Military College (RMC) as an instrument for molding military officers for the
nation would be an accurate means of outlining the institutions objective. In the Organizational
Behavior Concepts, Controversies, Applications, textbook by Stephen Robbins and Nancy Langton,
organizational culture is defined as: a system of shared meaning and common perception held by
members of an organization that distinguishes it from other organizations. (Robbins and Langton 316)
Like all institutions RMC is full of variables and cleavages that link peoples together in a variety of
manners. There is however more than simply a catchy motto Truth, Duty, ... Show more content on

While in the early part of the last century some of the original goals of RMC included producing
quality officers in Canada for the war effort at the same time developing Canadian autonomy from
Great Britain; today s goals and objectives are indeed different. Yet the point remains that the college
did not get shut down when the mandate changed. This fact reflects its immortality.
There are many other military academies in the world; an example of one closest to home is that of the
United States Military Academy, WestPoint. RMC and WestPoint have nursed a competitive rivalry
since the early years of RMC. While both institutions are in the business of producing commissioned
officers for their respective nations, the two academies are very different in terms of character and
personality. According to the field of organizational behavior, institutions are said to have personalities
just as people do. This is where culture plays a role in each respective military academy and
determining the atmosphere of the institution. At both RMC and WestPoint there are differing notions
of acceptable behavior. The first years at WestPoint are treated very differently than they are at RMC.
The USMA 4th classman, also known around the campus as pleebe is kept distant from the upper
years at WestPoint. While RMC has taken a very different stance, whereby first year cadets are treated
as full fledge members of the Cadet Wing. The character of the two

How Does Diffusion And Osmosis Affect The Rate Of Diffusion
Abstract
Cells and molecules in the environment are constantly moving and changing, for cells to function
properly there is a need for equilibrium to be met. The size of the cell and the solution outside of the
cell affects the rate of diffusion and osmosis in the cell. Cells are constantly trying to reach an
equilibrium with the molecules and substances around it, which is why there are such terms as:
hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic. The procedures allowed testing of whether or not surface area or
volume increased diffusion and how different substance control diffusion. Cells are constantly moving
to reach equilibrium through diffusion and osmosis.

What Correlation Between All Variables Were Computed By...
The correlations between all variables were computed by applying the Pearson product moment
method. The correlations among all the variables are presented in Table 1. Variables measured in this
study, namely, Attitude, Subjective Norms and Self Efficacy demonstrated strong and positive
correlation with Intention to enlist. With respect to Attitude towards military, the four dimensions such
as Evaluation of working Condition and benefits, Self and physical development, Perceived risk, and
Teamwork and patriotism was found to be positively related with intention to enlist in military.
Subjective norm for military enlistment was positively correlated with intention to enlist in military. In
addition, there was a positive relationship between intention to enlist and a person s self efficacy.
Hence, overall relationship indicates the model showed a strong and positive relationship to intention.

The multiple regression analysis was performed to find out predictive factors such as Attitude towards
Military, Subjective Norms, and Self Efficacy that account for the maximum proportion of the
variance in criterion variable Intention to Enlist. The multiple regression was conducted to determine
the contribution of the independent variables in predicting enlistment behavior. Regression results

In our case, our client s warnings about raw foods were displaced and were not visible to customers.
In Jarrell, the court established a legal standard for adequate warning. According to the decision in
Jarrell, there are two prongs for adequate warning. The first prong is intensity, which in this case
means a visible sign. In her restaurant, our client had two warnings. One was placed on the menu and
the other was the 3 x 5 cards on the tables, interview 2: 21, which could have been sufficient to

reasonable person to be aware of the possible danger. I would argue that our client met both prongs of

Distinct Italian Culture
Distinct Italian Culture is composed of community living, festivals, family living, and
commemorations, etiquette practices, also economic, innovative and administrative components.
The center of Italian life is encircled around relationships. Italian families widen from aunts, uncles,
grandparents and cousins. Italian families also form strong friendships with neighbors and people
across their community. Italian people do not focus on the factor of being Italian, but more on the
further linkage with a hometown due to the merger of Italy throughout history. The north of Italy

Comparison Of The Rue Morgue And The Black Cat
It may seem that Edgar Allan Poe s stories have no correlation to one another, such as The Black Cat
and The Murders in the Rue Morgue, after all one is the telling of a madman s confession and the
other a detective story. Although at first glance there seems to be no particular similarities, I hope to
convey otherwise. In The Black Cat there is a lot of talk about animals, demonstrating the narrator s
great love for them, never expecting that death would be brought from this great love. Overtime the
narrator experienced some changes. He became an alcoholic altering his behavior, even his behavior
towards his favorite pet and playmate Pluto. His actions lead to Pluto the cat being killed, and after
this cats death the narrator encounters a cat very similar to his dead one. His wife grew much found of
it and he realized he greatly disliked this cat. He was so enraged that one day he nearly killed the

Standardized Testing Is Not Beneficial
Standardized Testing
In the world today standardized testing is mandatory in all schools whether they are public or private.
If schools continue to make these test mandatory, students grades will show the reflection of what they
are not learning. The school might also receive less state funding due to poor performance on these
tests. Once No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) was introduced US students slipped from 18th in the
world in math in 2000 to 31st in 2009 (Standardized). Standardized testing is not beneficial overall
because it does not cater to all students, they do not cover real life topics, and they are detrimental to
students.
Standardized tests do not cover real life topics. Standardized tests are less educational than parents
think. States make schools take these tests in order to get more funding and to see how the teachers are
performing. These tests have many effects on the students and their grades. The Kansas Silent Reading
Test is one of the first known multiple choice standardized test in America. This test was created to
reduce Time and Effort in administration and scoring (Standardized). Although schools do use the
standardized testing methods in the classrooms today that was not what it was originally used for.
Standardized testing began in the United States during WWI because the Army needed a method to
determine which soldiers were Officer Material (Billy 75).

1. Choose one of the cases below and summarize the popular article in two or three sentences.
I chose to summarize Case #1. Surgeons Discover New Ligament in Human Knee.
In this article, FoxNews.com reports Dr. Steven Claes and Dr. Johan Bellemans, knee surgeons from
the University Hospitals Leuven in Belgium, have been conducting revolutionary human knee anterior
cruciate ligament (ACL) tear research by dissecting cadaver knees for the last four years. The two
knee surgeons were trying to find out the reason patients, who had undergone ACL repair, experienced
a condition called pivot shift (i.e., intermittent periods in which the knee destabilizes). The article
states the two knee surgeons identified a novel knee ligament, which they termed anterolateral
ligament (ALL), which, when damaged contributed to the pivot shift knee condition.

Case Study Of Kellogg s
Introduction:
Kellogg is $14.2 billion American multinational food manufacturing organization based in Battle
Creek, Michigan, USA. The food manufacturing giant has production units in 18 countries and it
markets more than 1,500 products in over 180 countries all over the world. Over the time Kellogg has
come out as a successful brand known for its packaged breakfast food items.
Kellogg entered India in 1995. On its advent, it made another classification of marked breakfast cereal
items. From that point forward the voyage for Kellogg s has been a long way from simple, really it has
been tough to the point that it has ended up to be one of the greatest brand disappointments in India.

First of all, Indians prefer hot milk compared to cold milk. At the point when the Kellogg s flakes are

Kellogg s later needed to adjust their food items to suit hot milk yet the harm had been carried out.

Hank Reeves Corporate Ethics and Social Responsibility
Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility in the corporate world are very important. By
understanding business ethics and socially responsibility, companies can develop and implement a
socially responsible plan. Organizations are no doubt an assembly line of different networks that are
both complex and dynamic in nature which face various conflicts. With this, a qualitative paradigm
needs to be used in order to ensure in depth knowledge and understanding of the issues and challenges
among business practices and how they can be handled. The influence of leadership and management

In correlation, a recent business decision my employer made was to host, and honor, an Annual
Partners in Business Ethics Conference for a second year to integrate corporate social responsibility
into the university (UT McCombs School of Business, 2017). This decision implies that there is a
concern that being socially responsible is important to their organization and the individuals it serves
employees, patients, students or other abiding citizens. Furthermore, other businesses have become
aware of unethical behavior of their employees. Research reveals a majority of managers have no
tactic nor did they know about CSR or that it maintains a good reputation for the company (Bakos,
2013). Although, the initial obligation of a manager is to generate profits while making ethical
business decisions companies need to contribute CSR objectives by integrating the strategy into the
core of business practices, management tools and processes. However, regardless of the opportunities,
there are a few implications such as concerns about the environment, health and new technologies.
While some people affirm the decisions in regard to business ethics and social responsibility should
not be that problematic, the implications and results take weight in the decision making process that
may have a huge impact on local consumers, communities, and even global ramifications. Critics

Character Analysis Of Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is a very complex and manipulative character. This is what makes him a great villian.
Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap.
The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo
who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello.
His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s
weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes
and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello
sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job
back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for
help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that
Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle
the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like
that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and
when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into
Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back.
The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the
stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act
4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of
a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an
unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to
get rid of it entirely. Iago tell Othello that killing Desdemona is the answer. Othello lost in self pity
and no reasoning left in his mind, agrees. Othello tells Iago, he will kill Desdemona and he
desposes Cassio. Iago s plan works and in the end, Othello and Desdemona die.
Iago s character is brilliant. Manipulation is a huge part of

Use Of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm Essay
Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) nodes create vulnerabilities exposed to malicious software attacks.
Thus, security is necessary to maintain growth in the IoT technology. This paper will focus on the use
of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) as a digital authenticator for use in the IoT.
Although ECDSA improves security, it comes at the cost of computational complexity in comparison
to authentication methods that use ciphers that are symmetric or simple hashes. This complexity often
causes significant limitations in devices applied in the IoT, where resources are restricted. This paper
will mainly focus on speed and memory performances, and will briefly cover other constraints such as
power consumption and size when applicable.
Keywords IoT; ECDSA; security; embedded; systems; low resource
I. INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of digital signature is to provide a means for an entity to bind its identity to a piece of
information. The process of signing entails transforming the message and some secret information
held by the entity into a tag called a signature. Elliptic Curve Digital Signature
Algorithm (ECDSA) is the elliptic curve analogue of the digital signature algorithm (DSA) and its
security is based on the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP). To date, no sub
exponential time algorithm is known to solve the
ECDLP in a properly selected elliptic curve group [1].
This makes Elliptic

George Washington s Effect On The French And Indian War
In 1753 George Washington, who was 21, went to confront the French in the Ohio country by
Lieutenant governor Dinwiddie. Washington s journey to the Fort Le Beouf made Washington famous
on both sides of the Atlantic. In 1754 Washington made a surprise attack on a small French army at
Jumonville Glen. This helped to make the French and Indian war. In the following year Washington
joined Major General Edward Braddock on his march to Fort Duquesne. Following the British failure
to capture Fort Duquesne in 1754, British men assigned General Edward Braddock the task of going
to the Forks of Ohio and removing the French from the region. Joining Braddock on the expedition
was Washington. Washington played an important role in saving Braddock s army from death during
the French and Indian War. This restored Washington s reputation as a good leader after his defeat at
Fort Necessity. The march to Fort Duquesne was slow and Braddock left about one third of his force
to bring the supply train, while pressing on through forest country with perhaps 1,500 men. They
found rude messages left by the French on the trees that were stripped bare of bark. On July 9th, after
crossing the Monongahela River ten miles from Fort Duquesne, Braddock s army was proceeding
through the trees then was surprised by an enemy force close to 900 men. ... Show more content on

Most Types Of Volcanoes Are Shield Volcanoes, Scoria Cones...
1. The major types of volcanoes are shield volcanoes, scoria cones (cinder cones), and stratovolcanoes
(composite). Each of these volcano types is influenced by the volume, the amount of magma,
viscosity, a measure magma s fluid friction, and volatiles or dissolved gases, of the magma that creates
them. Shield volcanoes form from the solidification of lava flows of basalt (Abbott 2014). These large
volume, low viscosity, low volatiles magma flows travel great distances. As thousands of layers of
lava flows cool on top of one another other, volcanoes are formed over a long period of time. The
width of these volcanoes is greater than their height, for example Mauna Loa in Hawaii. Scoria or
cylinder cones are low height conical hills formed by basaltic and andesitic pyroclastic debris
collected near a volcanic vent. Scoria cone magma is of small volume with medium viscosity and
medium volatiles. At the top of these cones are summit craters usually less than two kilometers in
diameter which may hold magma lakes during an eruption (Abbott 2014). Additionally, lava may also
drain from the base of scoria cones. Stratovolcanoes or composite volcanoes are steep sided and
symmetrical, examples include Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Rainer, and Mount Fuji. The peaks of
composite volcanoes are built of alternating layers of pyroclastic debris capped by high viscosity
andesitic to rhyolitic lava flows that solidify to form protective caps (Abbott 2014). Magma of
stratovolcanoes is of high

school appropriate. They show no skin. They re basically like jeans just more comfortable. Sometimes
leggings are more appropriate than jeans considering most don t have huge holes or holes in general.

the firms in their countries, that would be an international dispute. WTO function To join WTO is an
international status for smooth trade. Even though WTO judge fairly to solve the dispute, it does not
well function to provide entire solution. The most critical point is that WTO can do nothing to impose
their ruling to the disputed countries even if those countries never agree or accept it. Only thing is that
under ruling the country has a right to make a sanction to another on one on one level. However the
contemporary international organizations have a common problem. WTO only replies on each country

country, such as administrative litigation. 4. Segment analysis Aircraft industry has only small
suppliers while the customers are all over the world. As above mentioned the industry requires large
complex cooperate alliances in its hierarchy, only few countries having high tech industry basis are

transfers of funds sent by migrant workers from the country where they are migrated to work to people
who are typically their family members in their home country. Remittances represent household
income from foreign economies coming from temporary or permanent movement of people to those
foreign economies. Global remittances are primarily derived from two parts in the balance of payment

Bitcoin is a convertible virtual currency and cryptocurrency that can be exchange for real currency and
has its equivalent in real currency . Bitcoin is also a revolutionary technology that allows people or
institutions to transfer funds instantly, securely and without intermediaries. The way banks transfer
money today is archaic. International bank transfers can take up to a week. By using a digital currency
as a bitcoin, bank transfers could be made instantly, cheaply and safely. In fact, these transfers could
even occur without using new currencies . In addition , Each year, migrants from developing countries
send more than $ 500 billion in remittances, which exceeds foreign direct investment. With a total
amount of 6 to 10% for international transfers for the sending of $ 200, the burden on some of the
most vulnerable people in the world is considerable. Digital currency has the potential to help these
transfers become fast and cheap. By using virtual currency, migrants could even send money directly
to their families by mobile phone, the only remaining charges being those charged by currency
exchanges. While traditional money transfer companies must provide capital to offset the delays in
international money movements. The reduction of these costs could facilitate the entry and
implementation of new transfer corridors . Cryptocurrencies could take over in the long term.. It could

Wanderer Above The Sea Of Fog Analysis
Don t try to change your past...it s the only truth you ve got (Okhuozagbon). The past can be an
interesting thing then again, so can the future. This suggests the painting, Wanderer Above the Sea of
Fog by Caspar David Friedrich. In the painting, a lone man standing on a crag of rocks overlooking
the sea. His left foot faces the sea and is higher than his right. His slender cane sits on a third point on
the rocks. His blonde hair is flopping in the sea breeze, but his long, green, pleated at the bottom coat
is unaffected. His green pants are swaying in the wind. The sea looks to be angled downwards with the
man in the center. There are at least three more visible outcroppings of rocks in the sea. Two on his
left, and two on his right, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the right, near the mountains, there is almost a rock tower of sorts. A fog of sea spray somewhat
obscures the view. The man seems lost and contemplative. His face is not visible, but his posture
indicates that he is thinking, about what, may never be known but perhaps it is the future. The
message seems to be that of contemplation about the future. The sea is an open expanse of water with
partially visible mountains in the distance. Fog obscures some of the view, except for the outline of the
mountains. The mountains are the end goal, the sea a path, and the fog is the unknown. The man does
not know what the fog obscures but knows that there are mountains in the distance. The fog is the
unknown of his future, the rocks his obstacles, the mountains are his outcome, and the water is his
path to that outcome or goal. The message of his painting is to demonstrate the unknowns of a person
s future and the possible ways it could come out. The man could become trapped on one of the rock
crags or arrive at a different mountain than he thought that he was, but that is the beauty of his future it
is unknown. An open, unknown future can be a beautiful

Differences Of Hegel And Nietzsche
German philosophers Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770 1831) and Friedrich Nietzsche (1844
1900) have traditionally been viewed as polar opposites in terms of their philosophy. Hegel has been
dubbed an idealist and a systematic philosopher who identified various different types of History,
theoretical entities and concepts. Nietzsche, on the other hand, is seen to be a counter Enlightenment
and counter systematic philosopher who penned the well known text, Genealogy of Morals . In this
essay, I aim to bring to light the underlying similarities between the two thinkers that have previously
been overlooked, as well as to identify the differences in Hegel and Nietzsche s ideologies and
presuppositions.

Additionally, both Hegel and Nietzsche use the Master / Slave dichotomy to account for identity and
difference in the relationship between the powerful subject and the weak object. Both thinkers see
identity and morality emerging out of a relationship of conflict. Moreover, in both Hegel and
Nietzsche s narratives, there is a change in the structure of acknowledgment, where the antagonistic
relationship allows one side to define itself by negating the other. Both thinkers find that negation is
an integral part of identity formation. Hegel and Nietzsche both concur, in dialectical terms, Being is
represented by the object , or Master, and the subject , or Slave, is constantly in the process of
Becoming . From these similarities, is that clear that both 19th century philosophers have made a
massive impact on philosophical thought in todays day and age, despite their distinct

  • 2. Analysis Of Better Than Hum Our Jobs By Kevin Kelly Christian Lous Lange once said, Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master. Many would agree, as modern day scientists threaten that robots are taking over our jobs more and more everyday. While many are discomforted by this idea, author Kevin Kelly is intrigued with this idea in his article, Better Than Human: Why Robots Will⎼And Must⎼Take Our Jobs, saying that increasing technology in the workplace will benefit our society by increasing productivity. In his article, Kelly uses specific examples and tones in an attempt to relate to his audience, but fails to present an argument that forces others to trust in the takeover of technology. Kelly uses an academic, humorous tone in an attempt to appeal to his audience, but instead, sends a sarcastic message to the readers. For example, Kelly wrote, A computerized brain known as the autopilot can fly a 787 jet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kelly claims that no matter what your current job or your salary, you will progress through these Seven Stages of Robot Replacement... (311), beginning with denial that a robot could do our jobs, then slowly accepting that these machines are capable of our everyday tasks, and more. Kelly thinks we will believe that we are needed when the machine breaks down, but the technology is apparently flawless. After figuring out that this technology can do our old jobs better than we can, we realize that we did not like our job and we are much happier now that we have moved on from our old boring job. What Kelly fails to realize is that several people do not detest their jobs, and robots cannot do every job that humans can do. Some jobs, including social work and criminal investigation, cannot solely be done by machines. It is seemingly impossible. Therefore, Kelly s argument is invalid and cannot be used when arguing whether or not technology should be allowed to takeover the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Blind Light Garnet Tyler 301344139 CA 130 Fundamentals of Film Viewing Review Blind Light The film Blind Light by Sarah Pucill is an experimental 16mm film that was presented as a part of the Cinematheque s Studio DIM Cinema . This twenty two minute film, made in 2007, consists of a series of long, slow shots of the sky from the interior of a studio loft. In these shots, the filmmaker gradually adjusts the exposure and zoom, affecting the brightness levels and perspective. Pucill also controls the shot by closing and opening the blinds on the windows being looked out of. Additionally, the audio on the film is largely absent with only a few short comments and outside noise sporadically throughout. This film creates a lonely and isolated atmosphere with it s use of durational shots, absence of action and bare setting. Narration is also used to further this effect. For example, after the long period of silence at the beginning of the film, the artist says in a calm voice I can t look, so I ll shut it out . The nature of this phrase expresses a sense of defeat, which can be interpreted literally, in terms of the brightness of the light coming from outside as well as metaphorically, referring to a painful experience or difficult situation that might be easier to disregard than address. Following this statement, the second line is I want to see the sun, to be blinded , which contradicts the former, though follows a similar theme, evident of a troubled mindset. The emphasis ... • 4. The State Employee Retirement System Introduction: For Massachusetts state employees, like myself, there is one big decision that has to be made after being employed. That decision is if you are going to select the State Employee Retirement System (MSERS), or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). Upon employment, any contributions are immediately put into the MSRES system; the employee has 180 days to indicate that he/she would like to switch over to the ORP. Once the decision is made it is irreversible. Because there is no reversing this decision, it is a decision that employees spend time thinking about what the best long term decision is. Defined Benefit vs. Defined Contribution These two programs are different in that the MSERS is a defined benefit plan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may also be structured as a profit sharing plan. This is a plan in which the employers can make the decision of how much to contribute each year. Unlike the money purchase pension plan, which requires a fixed amount to be contributed, the contributions in a profit sharing plan is usually in proportion of the employees pay. MSERS Plan The SERS plan, which is a defined benefit system, has calculations made on retirement benefits that are based upon combining the number of years served in addition to age. All employees in the pension plan have monthly contributions taken out of their pay check; all of their contributions are deposited into an annuity account. The amount that is contributed is defined by when state service is started. For new state employees, contribution percentages are set at 9% of the salary. There are regulations to how much can be contributed. If the employee makes $30,000 or more, there is an extra 2% added. Employees who have signed up for MSERS, are vested at age 55 after serving 10 years, or at any age with 20 years of service. At the time of retirement, the employee is eligible for monthly retirement benefits for the rest of their life. Vesting means the employee is entitled to the retirement benefits under the plan. Under the SERS plan, the retirement income is predictable. This is due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kennedy, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate (Kennedy). Our words hold a great deal of power, and how we use them is important as well. Through negotiation, common ground can be discovered and uncovered, making strives for a better future. Negotiation: In our set of lecture notes, there is an entire lecture devoted to negotiation and the two kinds of negotiation distributive and integrative. Distribute negotiation is defined as a win or lose negotiation, where sides compete over the distribution of a fixed amount (Smith). The second sort of negotiation, integrative, is defined as a win ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both sides must be creative at coming up with things that are good for both of you (Smith). A website called Entrepreneur discusses the big points to have down before approaching a negotiation. Preparation is key, and know the party you are negotiating with. Have a strategy, and know your offer and reasoning behind it. Lastly, go for a win win solution. Your goal should be to secure a good deal without extracting the last pound of flesh from the other party (Sanibel). Situation: I live in an apartment with two other ladies, one of which is very messy, rude, and immature. Truth be told she is not mature enough to be living on her own, however, somehow she scrapes the money together each month to live here. The situation with my roommate, Mia, is that she constantly disrespects this apartment and those who live here. She never locks the front door, she lets dishes pile up in the sink for weeks, and she never cleans up after cooking until days later. To top it all off, she recently has dropped out of college, so she now does not have school to concentrate on, leaving her life to be one big party. As of late, I have been woken up multiple times in the middle of the night because of the high noise of her get togethers at 4 in the morning. This is only one example of many; needless to say, living with Mia is a challenge. I have done my best to overlook the issues and to stick to myself. It is becoming absolutely unbearable living with her, and change must ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Narwhal Poem Narwhal The ocean was still and smooth, like a black mirror reflecting ivory clouds and cyan shadows. In it, a pale blue whale of immense size surfaced and swam gently, like a dropping tear on a cheek. All the misery from around the world was drawn to the sea and formed its ripples. The whale swallowed the grief silently, from the northeast to the southwest, and the world was quiet and peaceful. Over time, the whale could no longer bear and hold the sorrows inside his body. The pain transformed and twisted into a long, grey tooth; it pierced through his forehead like a unicorn s horn. One day, people saw this anguished whale from the shore. They were amazed by a creature they had never seen before. They gazed at his splendid horn, and a strong greed grew inside of their hearts. People took boats, wood, and anything that could let them float. They surrounded the whale and trapped him, but the whale was too huge to be carried. So, they used thick ropes to hitch his head, ... A sailor was drowning in the fierce ocean from shipwreck. He struggled and tried to stay afloat, but desperation and death were stronger than him. When he was ready to give, he saw an island a short distance away. With his last ounce of strength, he swam to the island and pulled himself onto the beach. He lay prone on the sand, and couldn t believe that he was still alive. When he lifted his head up, the forest soughed in the breeze. • 7. Application Of Management Information Systems Management Information Systems Businesses have used computers since the 1950s to assist in the operation of daily activities. Accounting tasks were the first to be solved with computers, which started the process of developing information systems. The early computers were large and bulky and took up the space of an entire room. Typically these computers can only handle one task at a time and were only allowed to be used by one user at a time. Today technology is all around us and used on a day to day basis. This information is so vast that it requires a management process to keep it organized and in order. With the implementation of a personal computer, also known as a PC, along with networking, multi user systems and applications, allows users to enter their own data, and has relieved most of the original computer problems of data input and processing. According to Wikipedia management information systems, also abbreviated as MIS, is the study of people, technology, organizations and the relationships among them. Our book elaborates stating that management information systems is a specific form of information technology that managers utilize to generate the specific, detailed information they need to perform their roles effectively. • 8. Bugs Bunny Commercial Analysis Imagine audiences sitting in the movie theater trying to escape from the looming hardships of World War II. They sit and watch as the commercials begin to play when one of the most familiar tunes in animation begins. The commercial presents itself deceptively using the classic Looney Tunes curtain opening and theme music with the simple title of Bugs Bunny. The only hint at the true purpose of advertising at this point is the producer listing of the U.S. Treasury Dept. Defense Savings Staff. The curtains quickly open with an approaching Bugs Bunny miming the fife with his carrot as The Girl I Left Behind plays in the background. This is all set against a redrawing of the classic American painting The Spirit of 76. Bugs Bunny then begins to eat the carrot he s been holding, when he suddenly begins the song Any Bonds Today? . Suddenly, the purpose of the commercial is finally revealed to the audience, with Bugs song telling people to buy war bonds. All throughout this he gestures, points and moves with an animated flair for the audience. He even exits and reenters frame with an Uncle Sam costume, eventually beginning to act like he s passing out bonds to the audience. Until, with an animated twirl Bugs Bunny appears with blackface and a different singing voice, a parody of the blackface performance Al Jolson did in the movie The Jazz Singer. Finally, the picture pulls in close on Bugs face as he wipes away the paint and once the picture pulls back out the backdrop has changed. It shows a combat scene full of planes and ships as Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig appear to help close the advertisement with singing and dancing. As the song ends a simple war bonds ad pulls into frame. It now presents a Minuteman on the left and texts that reads For Defense Buy United States Savings Bonds and Stamps. The commercial relies heavily on its ethos and pathos to convince the audience into buying war bonds, using very little logos. Furthermore, ethos is used by the commercial with the use of Bugs Bunny as the appeal for the audience. At this time in American history Bugs Bunny was one the most famous animated characters often considered fun for the whole family. Also with most fathers gone off to fight in the war the ... The Pear Tree In The Full Tree Of Janie s Life Josie Atkinson Full Circle The pear tree that Janie sits under is a metaphoric representation of the cycles of her life: budding, growing, dying, and being reborn. Each relationship represents another cycle that she faces, and it is also the catalyst for her pursuit of self discovery. She is captivated by the way the bee interacts with the tree and identifies it as an ideally harmonious relationship. Janie is stirred tremendously by the tree because it intoxicates her with the beautiful interactions of nature (10). The bee and the tree symbolize a union in which there is neither control nor command, but rather an effortless interaction. She becomes enthralled with the concept of harmony and embarks on a journey to find the perfect relationship between her and a man. As the motif reoccurs, it parallels the growth of Janie s expectations of a relationship and who she shares it with; she longs for the man who she can experience harmony with. ... The Royal Military College as an Instrument for Molding Military Offices To view the Royal Military College (RMC) as an instrument for molding military officers for the nation would be an accurate means of outlining the institutions objective. In the Organizational Behavior Concepts, Controversies, Applications, textbook by Stephen Robbins and Nancy Langton, organizational culture is defined as: a system of shared meaning and common perception held by members of an organization that distinguishes it from other organizations. While in the early part of the last century some of the original goals of RMC included producing quality officers in Canada for the war effort at the same time developing Canadian autonomy from Great Britain; today s goals and objectives are indeed different. There are many other military academies in the world; an example of one closest to home is that of the United States Military Academy, WestPoint. RMC and WestPoint have nursed a competitive rivalry since the early years of RMC. While both institutions are in the business of producing commissioned officers for their respective nations, the two academies are very different in terms of character and personality. According to the field of organizational behavior, institutions are said to have personalities just as people do. This is where culture plays a role in each respective military academy and determining the atmosphere of the institution. At both RMC and WestPoint there are differing notions of acceptable behavior. The first years at WestPoint are treated very differently than they are at RMC. The USMA 4th classman, also known around the campus as pleebe is kept distant from the upper years at WestPoint. The correlations among all the variables are presented in Table 1. Variables measured in this study, namely, Attitude, Subjective Norms and Self Efficacy demonstrated strong and positive correlation with Intention to enlist. With respect to Attitude towards military, the four dimensions such as Evaluation of working Condition and benefits, Self and physical development, Perceived risk, and Teamwork and patriotism was found to be positively related with intention to enlist in military. Subjective norm for military enlistment was positively correlated with intention to enlist in military. • 17. Comparison Of The Rue Morgue And The Black Cat It may seem that Edgar Allan Poe s stories have no correlation to one another, such as The Black Cat and The Murders in the Rue Morgue, after all one is the telling of a madman s confession and the other a detective story. Although at first glance there seems to be no particular similarities, I hope to convey otherwise. In The Black Cat there is a lot of talk about animals, demonstrating the narrator s great love for them, never expecting that death would be brought from this great love. Overtime the narrator experienced some changes. He became an alcoholic altering his behavior, even his behavior towards his favorite pet and playmate Pluto. His actions lead to Pluto the cat being killed, and after this cats death the narrator encounters a cat very similar to his dead one. His wife grew much found of it and he realized he greatly disliked this cat. He was so enraged that one day he nearly killed the beast. Considering his previous ... He finally comes to the conclusion that an orangutan committed the murder because of its immense strength, ability to climb, and the audible but not understandable sound the neighbors hear. The question remains how an orangutan even got to this place, and that is when Dupin comes to the conclusion that a sailor brought it with him and somehow it had escaped. If schools continue to make these test mandatory, students grades will show the reflection of what they are not learning. The school might also receive less state funding due to poor performance on these tests. Once No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) was introduced US students slipped from 18th in the world in math in 2000 to 31st in 2009 (Standardized). Standardized testing is not beneficial overall because it does not cater to all students, they do not cover real life topics, and they are detrimental to students. In this article, FoxNews.com reports Dr. Steven Claes and Dr. Johan Bellemans, knee surgeons from the University Hospitals Leuven in Belgium, have been conducting revolutionary human knee anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear research by dissecting cadaver knees for the last four years. The two knee surgeons were trying to find out the reason patients, who had undergone ACL repair, experienced a condition called pivot shift (i.e., intermittent periods in which the knee destabilizes). The article states the two knee surgeons identified a novel knee ligament, which they termed anterolateral ligament (ALL), which, when damaged contributed to the pivot shift knee condition. 2. • 25. Character Analysis Of Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello Iago is a very complex and manipulative character. This is what makes him a great villian. Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap. The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello. His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back. The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act 4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to

Thus, security is necessary to maintain growth in the IoT technology. This paper will focus on the use of Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) as a digital authenticator for use in the IoT. Although ECDSA improves security, it comes at the cost of computational complexity in comparison to authentication methods that use ciphers that are symmetric or simple hashes. This complexity often causes significant limitations in devices applied in the IoT, where resources are restricted. This paper will mainly focus on speed and memory performances, and will briefly cover other constraints such as power consumption and size when applicable. Keywords IoT; ECDSA; security; embedded; systems; low resource I. INTRODUCTION: The purpose of digital signature is to provide a means for an entity to bind its identity to a piece of information. The process of signing entails transforming the message and some secret information held by the entity into a tag called a signature. Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) is the elliptic curve analogue of the digital signature algorithm (DSA) and its security is based on the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP). To date, no sub exponential time algorithm is known to solve the ECDLP in a properly selected elliptic curve group [1]. This makes Elliptic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Washington s journey to the Fort Le Beouf made Washington famous on both sides of the Atlantic. In 1754 Washington made a surprise attack on a small French army at Jumonville Glen. This helped to make the French and Indian war. In the following year Washington joined Major General Edward Braddock on his march to Fort Duquesne. Following the British failure to capture Fort Duquesne in 1754, British men assigned General Edward Braddock the task of going to the Forks of Ohio and removing the French from the region. Joining Braddock on the expedition was Washington. Washington played an important role in saving Braddock s army from death during the French and Indian War. This restored Washington s reputation as a good leader after his defeat at Fort Necessity. The march to Fort Duquesne was slow and Braddock left about one third of his force to bring the supply train, while pressing on through forest country with perhaps 1,500 men. They found rude messages left by the French on the trees that were stripped bare of bark. • 30. Most Types Of Volcanoes Are Shield Volcanoes, Scoria Cones... 1. The major types of volcanoes are shield volcanoes, scoria cones (cinder cones), and stratovolcanoes (composite). Each of these volcano types is influenced by the volume, the amount of magma, viscosity, a measure magma s fluid friction, and volatiles or dissolved gases, of the magma that creates them. Shield volcanoes form from the solidification of lava flows of basalt (Abbott 2014). These large volume, low viscosity, low volatiles magma flows travel great distances. As thousands of layers of lava flows cool on top of one another other, volcanoes are formed over a long period of time. The width of these volcanoes is greater than their height, for example Mauna Loa in Hawaii. Scoria or cylinder cones are low height conical hills formed by basaltic and andesitic pyroclastic debris collected near a volcanic vent. Scoria cone magma is of small volume with medium viscosity and medium volatiles. At the top of these cones are summit craters usually less than two kilometers in diameter which may hold magma lakes during an eruption (Abbott 2014). Additionally, lava may also drain from the base of scoria cones. Stratovolcanoes or composite volcanoes are steep sided and symmetrical, examples include Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Rainer, and Mount Fuji. The peaks of composite volcanoes are built of alternating layers of pyroclastic debris capped by high viscosity andesitic to rhyolitic lava flows that solidify to form protective caps (Abbott 2014).
