The Anatomy And Physiology Of The Eye
The human eye is a wonderful organ enabling us to perform all our daily tasks. The sense of
sight allows to do almost all activities. There are countless activities including studying, cooking,
driving, or playing an instrument. Other tasks that vision is helpful for would be communicating,
working, making life a lot easier, which are very essential. Most people would agree that vision
is more valuable than the rest. The eyes allow us to interpret colors and shapes. This happens after
a long complex process, starting from the reflect of light on the objects to the eyes and ends up in
the brain as images. Having a healthy eyeis very important and improves the quality of a person s
life. In this paper points out the very common eye... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other two portions in this layer are the choroid, the posterior and vascular portion which
supplies blood to all layers and the ciliary body which is a ring of muscles around the lens used
to focus the lens. The lens has a flexible structure that can change shape to precisely focus light on
the retina. The Retina is the very interior layer which consists of two layers. The pigmented outer
layer which absorbs light and prevents scattering. And the Neural layer composed of bipolar cells,
ganglion cells and two types of photoreceptors.
The eye is protected by a cushion of fat and a bony orbit surrounding the eye s anterior part. There
are also accessory structures that protect the eye and help maintain the eye s function. These
accessory structures include the eyelids, eyebrows, lacrimal apparatus, conjunctiva, and the
extrinsic eye muscles. The eyebrows function is to shade the eye from sunlight and keep out
perspiration from reaching the eye. The eyelids contains the nerves that initiate reflex blinking, and
protects the eye s anterior part, because it contains eyelashes at the edges, which prevents debris or
small particles like dust or sand from entering the eye. It also contains lubrication glands to keep the
eye moistened, such as tarsal glands and ciliary glands. The Conjunctiva is a transparent membrane
which also produces mucus. Next, the lacrimal consists of the lacrimal gland and ducts which

Socioeconomic Mobility And Social Mobility
In the United States, there is a imaginary finish line wanting to be met by its people. Living like
the privileged strives people towards working harder to meet that goal, but the amount of hard
work being invested into the bigger picture does not really mean you will make it. It is shown that
a low percentage of the average hard working person meets the one percent that owns more than
half the money circulated within the U.S (Beeghley 2008). Social mobility, where it all begins is
taken into account from the day a person is born based on the social classtheir parent or parents are
under or above on the ladder. According to the text there are five factors in social mobility those
are intergenerational, upward and downward social mobility, structural and exchange mobility.
In chapter eight point four a women by the name of Janice was expressed in the text as a women
who joined the intergenerational group who made it to an upward social mobility due to her
college experience and degrees earned meeting the change in social class from one generation to
the next on the account of her single mother who worked under a toyota dealership (lopoo and
DeLeire 2012). She so happened to be born when the economy was booming and was given an
abundance of opportunity within businesses and colleges were looking for women with a working
class background. Janice later goes on to owning her own business. The chances of being born
when opportunity is great is by chance, those born during

Boundaries In Relationships
The Importance of Setting Boundaries in Your Relationship
When we re feeling completely drained, tired, stressed, and exhausted all the time, many of us don
t realize that this is caused by not setting boundaries in our relationships and our lives. When we
leave ourselves too vulnerable to our partner, the result can be feeling unseen, under appreciated,
and unsupported. There are several reasons why setting boundaries is vitally important for your
personal wellbeing, and even the well being of your partner. We re going to discuss just a few of
these reasons here, while also providing tips for how you can begin to set boundaries today.
One of the primary reasons why you need to find your own personal borders is that it is necessary
for creating a sense of self. If you don t have boundaries there is a very good chance that you don
t have a solid sense of who you are as an individual. Perhaps you take on the thoughts of your
partner, you embody their feelings, ideas, values, and beliefs, as if they were your own. The term
enmeshment is used to describe this phenomenon, and when you ve been in a relationship for quite
some time, you may not even know that it s happening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some will want you to believe that this is the very nature of love, but that couldn t be further from
the truth. When enmeshment occurs, one or both people in the relationship will have a hard time
identifying their own unique experience of life, and how that is different from their partner. This is
very common for women; closely aligning themselves with the beliefs and worldview of their
partner, and believing these to be their

Price Value Of A Product Or Service
First of all, price represents the value of a good or service for both seller and buyer. The value
attached to a good or service is based on both tangible elements (such as product quality and
benefits) as well as intangible elements (the feel good factor taken into consideration for luxury
products). Price is the only element in the marketingmix that produces revenue; all other elements
represent costs. (Sallie Phillips, 2015, p.99); it also represents a relevant factor in the decision to
purchase a product or a service. It affects both the sales volume and profit.
Establishing the value of a product or service is not easy. A wide variety of relevant factors such as
the cost of goods or services, the market factors, sales volume, competition, economic conditions,
must be taken into consideration. Although, price desideratum is an ideal hard to reach, the price
should be high enough to cover the costs and generate revenue.Pricing it may have different
guidelines. The most relevant pricing strategies are cost based pricing, value based pricing, and
competition based pricing.
The cost based pricing strategy is determined by the total product cost plus an individual profit.
The most significant advantage of this approach is that it guarantees to cover the costs of the
production of the good or service. The price is made by various types of costs (fixed costs and
variable costs). Fixed costs do not vary depending on the level of production and sales. For
example, a company

Power Of Rightwing Groups
With Donald Trump s election into the White House, the rightwing of American politics gained
power like they ve never had before. As their power progresses, it is incredibly important that both
Democrats and Moderate Republicans devise a strategy to hinder the spread of these ideas and
limit their power. The most important ways in which these individuals should resist the growing
influence of these rightwing groups include: focusing less on social issues and more on economic
policy, calling out rightwing anti race rhetoric and dog whistle politics, and by staying away from
becoming an extremist group themselves. It is only through these methods that we can oppose
rightwing politics and take the power away from the groups that currently have... Show more

Not only will this process take legitimacy away from the Democrats in the long run, but it will
also only cause the rightwing to go further to the right. The only way to successfully oppose the
rightwing movement is to remain as logical and level headed as is possible. This is
demonstrated in Claire Conner s experiences with the John Birch Society. While the society was
incredibly powerful at one time, they eventually began to collapse once they went after
prominent leaders. Many soon saw them as radical and un logical. As we let the rightwing
movements spiral more and more out of control, anyone who is even close to moderate will leave
them, thus weakening their power. Providing those whose opinions begin to dissent from this
group an alternative is vital to opposing them. Another reason why it is so important to shy away
from radical behavior and ideas is that it will make other liberal arguments weaker. It will be near
impossible to convince rightwing supporters that their leaders are using coded racial appeals when
they have already written us off. One argument that has pushed liberals further away from logically
discussion and further toward extremist emotional appeals is the, Trump is just like Hitler saying.

others, many

Role Of Julius Caesar In The Gaul
Julius Caesar s role in the Gaul had a large impact in many aspects of his career such as the
military, wealth and influence on Rome and political power. Julius Caesar was a Roman
politician who turned the Roman republic into the powerful Roman Empire. Caesar overthrew
the Roman republic and founded the rule of the emperors. In this period Caesar used the
problems to his advantage and created his own supreme political and military power, gaining the
trust of Rome and building his army. Caesar is well known throughout the whole world as one of
the most powerful and successful leaders that has ever lived. In his young years, his father had a
major impact on him, as he had political success, and the family has a history in politics, which had
helped Caesar in starting out in politics. Julius Caesars first important political success had
occurred in 63b.c.e when Caesar was appointed the role of Chief Religious office in Rome; this
had set him up for future political roles. Caesar was very strategically and had many tactics to
how he would rule; he always wanted more glory and political and military opportunities and
would overcome all challenges he faced. In 59B.C.E Caesar won an election to become consul, the
senate then assigned him to lands that gave Caesar no opportunities for military exaltation, as he
did not want Caesar to succeed. Caesar realised he would need more allies to overcome his
opponents in the senate. He then formed the alliance that was known as the First Triumviratewith
the Roman General Pompeywho brought wealth and military success. During Caesar s rule he
gained a lot of military success due to how he led his army
Military during Caesar s rule was a high contribution of his success. Military success was

The Mexican American War Of Mexico
The Mexican American War was the war between the United States and Mexico that took place in
1846 through 1848 over disputes of land. By the time that the United States invaded Mexico,
Mexico had very few resources left to defend its nation, causing the United States to win the war
and making it possible for it to claim half of New Mexicos national territory. However, prior to the
Mexican America War, tired and exhausted Mexico was fighting a few battles of its own. The
City of Mexico was living in fear due to the destruction Comanche Indians and their allies
brought upon Mexico. During the 1830 s through 1840 s, prior to the Mexican American War,
Comanche Indians, Kiowa s, and other Indian allies invaded and attacked Mexican settlements
by using tactics such as raids. These raids claimed the lives of many Indians and Mexicans,
destroyed most of Northern Mexico s economy and slowed down Mexico s growth. The raids by
the Comanche Indians were what eventually shaped the outcome of the Mexican American war.
Indian raids by the Comanche and their allies like the Kiowa s generated many problems for
Mexico s agricultural, commercial and ranch life during the 1830 s. As a result, Mexico s ability
to defend itself declined when centralism, militarism, and American imperialism were devastating
the nation. Development on both sides of the Rio Grande in the 1830 s through the 1840 s, like
Mexico s swing to dictatorship in 1835, and the power struggle between civil and military

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost Essay
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
In Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken, (reprinted in Laurence Perrine and Thomas R. Arp, Sound
and Senses, 8th ed. [San Diego: Harcourt, 1992] 23) the speaker stands in the woods, considering
a fork in the road. Both ways are equally worn, and equally overlaid with un trodden leaves. The
speaker chooses one, telling himself that he will take the other another day. Yet he knows it is
unlikely that he will have the opportunity to do so. And he admits that someday in the future he
will recreate the scene with a slight twist: he will claim that he took the less traveled road. The
whole poem is an extended metaphor, where Frost describes a path in the woods that is directly
comparable to a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Frost presents to the reader a man s decision, at a turning point in his life, symbolized by two roads
diverged in a yellow wood.
In the first line, Frost introduces the elements of his primary metaphor: the diverging roads. The
speaker expresses his regret that [he] could not travel both (line 2). The choice is not easily
made since long I stood (line 3) before coming to a decision. In an attempt to make a choice, the
traveler examines the path as far as [he] could (line 4), but his vision is limited because the path
bends and is covered in the undergrowth (line 5). Thus, indicating that although he would have
liked to acquire more information, he is prevented from doing so because of the nature of his
environment. In lines 6 8, the speaker is still unable to decide between the two paths since the
other, [is] just as fair (line 6). He indicates that the second path is a more attractive choice since it
was grassy and wanted wear (line 8). Nevertheless, by the end of the stanza, he remains ambivalent,
even after comparing the two paths, for each was really about the same (line 10). Neither path has
been traveled lately. In the third stanza, the speaker makes his decision, trying to persuade himself
that he will eventually come back (line 15) to satisfy his desire and curiosity to travel both paths.
However, deep down, he admits to himself that

He remembered the clean environment, trickling streams, proud trees, pristine forests, ferns and

to continue living in. He also remembered taking a ride on a horse drawn carriage with the

this was it: Turtle Island Preserve II. It wasn t a rumor after all...
What happened here? Caroline asked.

They walked back to the main building and then up the front steps. When they pushed the door,
it creaked ajar to the living room that was completely furnished with log tables, chairs, and

An Innovating Era
One of the most famous innovative engineers of all time, Henry Ford, once said, You can t build a
reputation on what you are going to do. Between 1850 and 1914 the American people happened to
be living by this. Everyone tried creating something to profit, not to satisfy American needs, but
some Americans built a reputation doing the opposite of that. During the years between 1850 and
1914, Americans were experiencing a lot of transformation. For example, Americans transformed
from a mainly agricultural society to more of a modern industrial nation while America so called

Ford produced the automobile to satisfy Americans desires and to make it more affordable for the
society they currently lived in ( Henry Ford Changed the World 1). He was very determined to
build a simple, reliable, and affordable car (1). His early life helped shape his future and the
man he became. Ford actually left home to take a job offered to him in Detroit as a machinist, at
the age of sixteen ( Bio Henry Ford 1). His early interest in machinery helped him quickly get a
job as an engineer. One of his starting jobs was with the Edison Illuminating Company (2). At the
age of 33, in 1896, he constructed his very first model, called the Quadricycle (2). That same year,
Ford encountered with Thomas Edison, the lighting genius, and some of his executives. Edison
encouraged Ford to make a better, more efficient model (2).
The impact that Henry Ford had on this innovating era clearly cannot be underestimated. Ford had
the dream of creating a cheaper motorcar for the great multitude ( The Innovator and Ford Motor
Company 1). In fact, he came up with the first Model T on October 1, 1908. When that became
known worldwide, he began trying to make that automobile in quantity for sale at more affordable

through the body into the stomach, and encounters pepsin and gastric acid. Once this occurs larva
is released and travels into the small bowel mucosa where they mature into adult worms. The adult
worms then travel into the striated muscle an encyst into the body where they may live for years.
Compared to beef tapeworms Trichinella is far more dangerous, due to the potential that the larva
will migrate to the brain, this may cause very serious symptoms such as epilepsy or even death.

Ethical And Ethical Ethics Of The International Arena Essay
Conducting ethical business in the United States can be seen as clear cut to us. Although we are a
diverse nation, as U.S. citizens, most gain experience in the professional environment where ethics
is explained thoroughly enough that one is able to determine what is ethical and what is unethical.
When it comes to ethicsin the international arena, Thomas Donaldson explained how that structure
almost does not exist since ethical culture, practices and the social norm is different in each
country. In the article, Donaldson debunked previous theories like cultural relativism and ethical
imperialism while coming up with a guideline that can help companies proceed in understanding
cultural difference while still being ethical. (Donaldson, 1996, pp. 48 52) As I read through the
article, it made me remember past events that had cultural dilemma while helping me find new
ways to help my ethical decision making skills. Key lessons from the article was the way
Donaldson explained how there was no exact way to deal with foreign business practices since
they differ in each country. Cultural relativism is defined as no culture s ethics are better than any
other s; therefore, there are no international rights or wrongs. As cultural relativism lives by the
saying when in Rome, do as the Romans do but it proves to be inadequate since rules and
regulations differ in each country. The article states that cultural relativism is morally blind .

Wou Wound Healing Essay
Introduction The skin, the most important organ in the human body has many vital functions
including: sensation, thermoregulation, protection and synthesis of vitamin D. Routinely and
consistent assessment and monitoring of the patients skin condition is one of the most important
duty we have as nurses. This is very important because any change in the condition of the skin may
often be an indication of underlying disease Injury of either the epidermis or the dermis can result
in systemic infection, increased morbidity, increased cost of care, and negative psychosocial
consequences (Schindler, Kuhn, Christopher, Conway, Ridling Simpson; 2011). Wound healing
is a
very complex process. Wound healing has three phases: the inflammatory phase, the proliferative
phase, and the maturational or remodeling phase. These phases might overlap at times (Porth, 2011).
Inflammatory Phase The inflammatory phase starts at the time of injury with the formation of a
blood clot and the migration of phagocytic white blood cells into the wound site. The first cells to
arrive, the neutrophils, ingest and remove bacteria and cellular debris. After twenty four hours, the
neutrophils are joined by macrophages that continue to ingest cellular debris and play an important
role in the production of growth factors for the proliferative phase (Porth, 2011).
Proliferative Phase The proliferative phase typically follows and overlaps with the inflammatory
phase,

Spine Care In Omaha Essay
Chiropractors for spine care in Omaha
Health is wealth a very well known proverb which is literally meant to be followed by each and
every one of us by giving our health the much awaited and the much deserved attention and care
not just by eating healthy and avoiding any ill eating habits but also by doing proper exercises,
yoga and by giving full attention to any body pains or ill health symptoms. Mostly small body
aches and minor pains are considered to be avoidable which makes the small issues grow and
become serious problems in health so it is always advisable to pay proper attention to such body
aches like pains in joints, back ache, severe head ache etc and take proper medication for the
treatment. Having just medication is not alright but consulting a specific professional doctor for
the particular body part is a must. With increasing work loads and busy schedules, neuromuscular
disorders and back pains are getting more common among teenagers, adults and even in old aged
so proper professional doctors need to be consulted and asked for medication from them. For back

John D Rockeffeller
What makes John D. Rockefeller an effective leader?
In his decades of business, one of the key characteristics that propelled Rockefeller to success
was his strong leadership abilities. It wasn t his status, nor his age that made Rockefeller a great
leader. Instead, it was his influence. People around him wanted to follow him; they were inspired
by him to do more than they ever thought they were capable of. It was his ability to create a strong
sense of teamwork and his own energy and passion that drove his workers and thus his company.
We can say he was a leader according to the leadership framework: Be, Know, Do:

In the fight against independents pipelines, armed men defended land bought by Rockefeller on the
planned way of the pipelines.
What type of leadership did he use?
It appears that, to lead his company, Rockefeller used one type of leadership to lead the workers
inside the company and for the commercial practices. In both case, it was an autocratic and
directive style of leadership. Even if Rockefeller seemed very close to his employees and knew how
to motivate and reward them, he did not trust them at all. He saw his relationship with them as
transactional, one of competing needs. However, he rarely made important decisions without
seeking debate and achieving a common mind among his key associates, foreshadowing the
consensus management
For his commercial practices, he used too an autocratic leadership. His most flagrant sin was the
ruthlessness with which he crushed competitors. For every competitor who became to be
dangerous for his business, Rockefeller used all the above practices to reduce them to nothing, or he
extended the olive branch to vanquished rivals, buying out their companies and drawing them into
his organization, making at least some of them richer than they could have been on their own. This
was not generosity but the mechanism whereby he expanded Standard Oil into a monopoly.
The Rockefeller s underlying characteristics that helped him to raise the top:

Humorist Synthesis Essay
The concept of humor inciting change continues to be disagreed upon globally. Whereas mordant
humor demands mental depth to understand the purpose, blatant impunity messages are accessible
and easily created by humorists. Thus, humorists that are vital to society often rely upon humor
with an underlying message. As a result, de Botton s claim of humorists serving society is true,
provided that the message is dangerous to state blatantly.
Humorists revolve heavily around trending topics to help appeal to their audience. This practice
lends itself to humorists often becoming politically focused. Ideally, humorists would remove
themselves from appearing to be partisan but, as proven during the most recent presidential
election, humorists relied upon blatant jabs at both candidates. This resulted with audiences that
found comic relief through their dislike of candidates as opposed to the comedian s message.
These circumstances led to an election of the best of the worst, rather than electing candidates
based on policy. This is an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first time in which humor served a social function in America was when the African Americans
displayed silent sabotage. Although this form of peaceful revolt also relied on faking sickness and
not working, humor was implemented by slaves in an act of cultural retention. Cultural blending
quickly led to cultural oppression for slaves; slave owners prevented their slaves from acting
dissimilar from whites. Thus, slaves relied on humor with underlying meanings as a form of
preventing cultural oppression. The slaves created stories and songs that developed into African
American folklore; this was allowed because it appeared to praise white people. This folklore
ultimately made fun of white culture and served as a message of rebellion that was otherwise too
dangerous for slaves to

Neuroplasticity In The Brain
This editorial concerns an interesting paper, recently published in Acta Physiologica, showing
evidence that the focus of attention internal or external during execution of a motor task can cause
transient neuroplastic like responses in motor areas of the brain (Khun et al., 2016). Neuroplasticity
refers to the capacity of the brainto reorganise itself in response to our experiences throughout life.
Typically, changes to the organization of the brain come about to support brain function. For
instance, after a spinal cord injury or stroke, the brain must adapt to allow functional recovery (Rao
et al., 2016). The recognition that the brain must change to improve function has led to several
attempts to boost neuroplasticity. Cutting edge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, loud acoustic stimulation delivered during movement preparation (Marinovic et al.,

effects of loud sounds on movement facilitation (e.g. faster reaction times and increased response
vigour) are now well established (for a review see Marinovic and Tresilian, 2016), no studies have
examined whether loud sounds can aid motor function beyond the stimulation period. The new
findings reported by Khun and colleagues (2016) demonstrate that we can now add the
manipulation of the focus of attention to the list of neuromodulatory techniques with the potential

Iberian Ascendancy In The Age Of Discovery
Iberian Ascendancy in the Age of Discovery
At the dawn of the 1400s, a series of fortunate events conveniently coalesced to perfectly set the
stage for a new era of European exploration. Innovative technology allowing sailing on the open
ocean was invented in an age where trade access to luxury goods from the Far East was becoming
ever more limited. A highly motivated, powerful man was born as religious fervor was being
redirected. Successes close to home incited a widespread fervor to explore further. All of these
relatively unrelated occurrences united into an opportunity for certain European nations to achieve
an unprecedented feat sailing the Atlantic Ocean and create an empire. In order to advance their
goals, the Iberian powers combined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the overcoming of the obstacles to this advancement including pervasive myths, uncharted

Portuguese empire. By his death in 1460, Prince Henry had left Portugal as the top power of the
seas and abroad with the best maritime knowledge and an abundant amount of forts allowing
direct access to the riches of both Africa and India (Ames, 25 26). Further progress quickly
followed, including the rounding of the Cape of Good Hope by Bartolomeu Dias; the signing of
the Treaty of Tordesillas, granting Portugal sole control over the land and sea to the east of the line
of demarcation cutting through South America; and Vasco da Gama s triumphant voyage to India
and back via the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Taken together, these events prove that Portugal had
found a successful route to the profitable Indian spice trade that cut out the middlemen.
Furthermore, following da Gama s return, the Portuguese monarch took his success as a sign from
God that Portugal was meant to establish their control over those parts of Asia and spread the true
faith to its inhabitants, inciting a second flurry of voyages

Evangelicalism Essay
Introduction
Evangelicalism did not evolve or operate in a space. It is essential to consider the ways in which
members of this group participated in and changed their culture, and, conversely, to assess how its
social context provided both the ideas which evangelicalism adopted or transformed and those
which it actively rejected or resisted. As movements that came of age during the first half of the
nineteenth century, Evangelical Protestantism can be understood most clearly in the political,
economic, and religious contexts of post revolutionary American society. Although the movement
would come to effect profound changes in its society it was very much in a sense that the culture
had grown ripe for its emergence. The tension between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Somewhat ironically, many of these social organizations took as their immediate goal the uplifting
of individuals. The focus of individual advancement and social responsibility found greatest
expression, however, in a religious uprising that shook the country during the early nineteenth
century. The basis of this religious transformation can be found in the longing of many people for
an intensity of spiritual experience.
The Second Great Awakening and Rise of Evangelicalism
Transformations in American economics, politics and intellectual culture found their parallel in a
transformation of American religion in the decades following independence. As a result, the United
States underwent a widespread flowering of religious sentiment and unprecedented expansion of
church membership known as the Second Great Awakening. The Awakening lasted some 50 years,
from the 1790s to the 1840s, and spanned the entire United States. The religious revitalization that
the Awakening represented manifested itself in different ways according to the local population and
church establishment, but was definitely a Protestant phenomenon. Methodist and Baptist
denominations experienced a surge of membership, often at the expense of other denominations,
prompting a move toward liberalization and competitiveness on the part of the Anglican,
Presbyterian and Congregationalist churches. The numerical success of

Obscenity Laws Texts Schools And Public Libraries
Daniel Wilson Avril Torrence ENGL 382 10 April 2015 Obscenity Laws Texts In Schools And
Public Libraries Obscenity Laws Texts in Schools and Public Libraries Introduction Morality is a
virtue that all humans ought to embrace. The different societies where we live in have set standards
that provide guidelines that all are to follow. However, with all the set conditions, a section of the
population still chose to go astray. Through their actions, verbally and in all manners known to
them, this group upholds obscene vices that are a deterrent to the community s standards of
decency (Ryder 210). Obscene practices extend to those materials that are intended to invoke
impure sexual thoughts. These materials spread in publications to schools and public libraries at
high rates. The question arises that, to what limit should a material be labeled as obscene? Certain
fiction writers do not consider the use of euphemisms in their works and at certain times cause
intentional ambiguity that attracts diverse reactions from their readers. This phenomenon comes
about from what is termed as the reception theory. The mind tends to develop in accordance with
the exposure (Cossman 50). It is evident that these scenes tend to be more attractive to the
unsuspecting persons, mostly teenagers; therefore, developing strategies to protect them is
essential. The Canadian government believes that continuing to produce these materials can corrupt
the minds of the readers and the wider population.

In early 2013, a Whittier Daily News article announced the roll out of a new Starbucks reusable

English Class Reflection
I can say with a high degree of confidence that AP Upper Mid English has been unlike any other
English course that I have taken during my academic career. Put plainly, the material and in class
instruction of the class is revelatory in every sense of the term, and, overall, the organization and
matter of the course was exceptional. In terms of the organization of the course as a whole, I
believe that the English Department was able to successfully distill all of the dominant aspects of
learning that an English class epitomizes into the relatively short period of time that school is in
session. In my experience, I have found the class to be organized and structured competently. The
schedule, curriculum, and writingassignments were easy to understand and I felt as though I
exited the classroom every class feeling as if I accomplished what I had to for that day and I had a
definite grip on what to expect for the next class. That being said, I think it is also imperative for me
to mention that the course was not overly constricting or overly structured either the schedule had
enough malleability to accommodate for impromptu activities. For instance, when Bob Levy, an
acclaimed journalist for the Washington Post, visited Taft, our class used our period to have a
invigorating conversation with him about the future of Internet Privacy, a conversation that I think
was instructive and, in all likelihood, prepared me for the AP Exam just as much as the traditional
class that we

St. Thomas University Essay
Based on my research the university I am most interested is St. Thomas University. A discussion
about St. Thomas University by my one of my travel softball coaches who is also the head coach
at St. Thomas was the first thing that attracted me to the school. She frequently talks about the
school and therefore I already know a great deal about it. A few times I actually had the
opportunity to playscrimmage games against the St. Thomas University softball players and
sometimes they come to our practices and help out; it is obvious in observing their behavior on

manner. These days those qualities seem tough to find, and it surprised me to see a whole team
with type of character. I will more than likely commit to St. Thomas to play softball, but I m still

Benefits Of Lowering The Drinking Age To 21

Lowering the Drinking Age to 21 From the suburbs, to school campuses, to city streets,
adolescents will find a way to get around the 21 year old limit. Alcohol has become a large part
of teenager s lives in America, despite the legal drinking limit of 21 years of age. Teenagers have
resorted to sneaking alcohol around, causing unsafe drinking habits to take place, and the Lowering
the legal drinking age to 18 would allow individuals to experience life as an adult, decrease unsafe
drinking activity, and diminish the amount of times the law is broken. Experiencing life as an

The legal drinking age of 21 years has not stopped people from participating in underage
drinking. It hasn t reduced or eliminated drinking. It has simply driven it underground, behind

White Trash Primer Essay
English 112
7 May 2013
The Judgement
In the short, personal memoir, White Trash Primer, Lacy M. Johnson talks about a girl s life
from childhood to her early adult life. Johnson begins her piece by talking about the girl s
childhood that seemed like an average child s life growing up in a rural area. This girl grew up
in a family where her family was constantly working hard on a farm to get by. As time went on,
life s circumstances changed. The child began to mature and the family was forced to move due
to financial problems. From the move, the family went from owning a farm and selling corn and
soy beans, to a family that was forced to work at Wal Mart. Depression eventually takes over the
girl s life and her lifestyle changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another great thing I took away from reading this memoir is that everyone looks at the same
things, but in different ways. For example, the main character in Johnson s memoir constantly went
into Wal Mart looking for a job. After applying six times, she finally got hired.
Some might have seen her as being a pest or an interruption to the other employees, while others
saw her as being a determined individual that knew what she wanted. Everyone saw the same
lady walking into the store, but all of their impressions were very different. Learning that
everyone sees the world in a different manner then led to me wanting to be kind hearted woman
to everyone that I meet. Impressions are everything, so it is better to give a person the benefit of
the doubt since their life stories are not revealed at the time they are seen. The last lesson I took
away from reading Johnson s piece is a person can go from living a comfortable life without the
amenities, but with all the necessities, to a life where there is nothing at all. There are certain
events that happen in your life that can change your life completely.
Johnson is not the only person who is extremely satisfied with this piece. Many of her readers feel
the same joy. One of her readers by the name of Claudia Rankine writes on an online blog saying:
I was riveted by this piece written with the haunting interiority of poetry and the compelling drive
of prose. Much like being caught in a novel by

The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst Essay
Have your parents ever told you that you needed to improve at something? It could be a sport,
activities, or even how well you do in school. This is a vile thing for parents to do to their
children. Sometimes parents just need to back up a few steps and let you be yourself. The same
can happen with an older sibling! That is the case in The Scarlet Ibisby James Hurst. The narrator
of this story has a younger brother called Doodle, who has some health issues. Big brother pushes

The brother s criteria for being normal is very precise, as Doodle is expected to be indomitable.
This creates conflict between Doodle and society, which is external conflict.
Finally, in The Scarlet Ibis, Doodle strives for these objectives because he is dependent on his
brother. Perhaps he is even scared that if he doesn t do what his brother asks, then he will no
longer have help from him. This is supported when they are in the loft and the narrator says, And
before I ll help you down from the loft, you re going to have to touch it. (Page 387). He is
threatening to leave Doodle up in the loft, all alone, until he touches the mahogany box which was
to be his coffin. Doodle becomes very frightened by this intimidation, which is probably the cause
of his fear later in the story. This causes conflict between Doodle and his older sibling because
Doodle basically cannot do anything without his brother, and if he is left, he becomes panicked.
Obviously, in The Scarlet Ibis, Doodle has many reasons to strive for the targets set by his brother,
even though he does not have a competitive nature. One reason is that he wants to make his brother
proud, which causes internal conflict for the narrator. Also, he wants to be an ordinary boy and fit
in, which creates a fray between Doodle and humanity. Lastly, he is dependent on his brother and

would you use one over the other?
6. Why is it important to pay attention to the assumptions of the statistical test? What are your

Part II
Part II introduces you to a debate in the field of education between those who support Null
Hypothesis Significance Testing (NHST) and those who argue that NHST is poorly suited to most
of the questions educators are interested in. Jackson (2012) and Trochim and Donnelly (2006)
pretty much follow this model. Northcentral follows it. But, as the authors of the readings for Part
II argue, using statistical analyses based on this model may yield very misleading results. You may
or may not propose a study that uses alternative models of data analysis and presentation of findings
(e.g., confidence intervals and effect sizes) or supplements NHST with another model. In any case,
by learning about alternatives to NHST, you will better understand it and the culture of the field of
education.

Birth Of A Nation Stereotypes
You can clearly see this film was backlash from Birth of a Nation. It made a stance and
questioned all stereotypes in the other film. It had a good balance between good and evil. The
producer crushed all the stereotypes in Birth of a Nation, and shows you what it would look like
if the south did free the blacks. The film really focuses on even with freedom, even with education,
wealth and rights; there are still similar struggles blacks had to go through. No matter what they did
to progress.
Birth of a Nation was a very biased film. It was produced to influence rich white people to justify
their actions towards the black race by skewing what happened in history. Within Our Gates was

Sylvia is awaiting her fiance Conrad. All the characters are sophisticated individuals. The film
makes this image seem as a normality. In Birth of a Nation they do the same opening scene with
the Cameron s and that being the normality. There are no white villains in Birth of a Nation. The
producers go out of their way to portray black stereotypes and make blacks out to be horrible
human beings. It s very clear cut that whites are good, blacks are evil. Even the battle between
the Camerons and the Stoneman still showed goodness. For example when Ben Cameron was
shot at war, Phil had his sister Elsie take care of him. No matter what difficulties are between
them, they still do the right thing. Yet when they look at the blacks, they were doing nothing but
wrong. Such as when the black man chased Margaret to her death. It s not so black and white in
Within Our Gates. They focus more on each individual character. They all have a story and there
are reasonings behind their actions. For example Larry Prichard ended up shooting red during a
poker game and killing him. Now there was a motive and a purpose in larry s actions. Yesit was
wrong, but it was a realistic action anyone, of any race or gender could make. I feel like in Birth
of a Nation blacks were acting like animals and destroying things and hurting people for no reason

Essay Immunity from Sate Jurisdiction
Immunity from Sate Jurisdiction
International law specifies that the jurisdiction of a state within its territory is complete and
absolute [1]. However, it is identified that certain categories of persons and bodies acting in the
public interest are entitled to immunities and privileges from the exercise of the State jurisdiction.
In April 1984 WPC Fletcher, a British policewoman was killed, as a result of shots being fired
from the Libyan Bureau. The incident created great anger and it was asked by many as was
whether the Libyan diplomats were immune from being tried in the United Kingdom courts and the
abuse of such privilege granted to diplomatic persons. This also prompted the British ... Show more

More stringent standards are being applied. [7] Therefore the possibility of expelling diplomats
from the country if in breach of criminal law was available as an option for the host State if
needed. The relationship between persons enjoying immunities and privileges and the host states is
accentuated in Article 41 of the Convention[8], in which it confers that all persons enjoying
immunity and privileges to respect the laws of the host state. The position of the diplomat is also
seen as that he is under duty to observe that law and assume a relationship towards the state of his
residence which is sometimes referred to as temporary allegiance .[9]
The ambiguity of the law in this area is due to the problems in the interpretation of Article 7 of the
Geneva Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which will now be explained. Article 7 states, that
the sending State may freely appoint the members of the staff of the mission . It is apparent by the
quotation, that the lack of imprecision leaves an opportunity for possible abuse.
Firstly, an issue that was raised was that the Vienna Convention does not contain an objective
definition of staff categories. It was argued that the present provision, which relates to fact checks,
that usually have to relate to questions relating to nationality, residence

Hippocrates Temperaments
Hippocrates, also known as the father of medicine, studied cadavers as part of his work and
came up with four different temperaments based on what fluid he saw inside the bodies. He
decided that if he saw blood inside, the person must have been sanguine. If he saw yellow bile, it
would mean that the person had lived his or her life as a choleric. When Hippocratessaw phlegm in
the cadaver s abdominal cavity, he concluded the person must have been a phlegmatic. The fourth
and final temperament he came up with was the temperament of a melancholic, who had black bile
in his or her body. As I have learned what each of these temperaments mean, I have put them in the
order that I think best describes me.

The most predominant temperament in my psyche is sanguinity. I believe that this temperament
fits my personality the most because I tend to feel sympathy towards others and I enjoy being
around people. It isn t very often that I want to be alone. I like to talk, spend time with friends,
and I enjoy having fun with those around me. I would say that about 40% of my personality is
sanguine because of how much I like being around others and spending time helping them.
However, as much as I do like being social, there are times that I enjoy being by myself and out of
the center of attention.
The second most dominant temperament in my own psyche is the phlegmatic temperament.
The phlegmatic part of me takes up about 30% of my personality. I like to be social and talk to
others, but I don t particularly care to get into arguments or conflicts with others if I don t have
to. I don t like seeing people fight; I would rather see everyone happy and at peace with one
another. I try not to push my opinions and beliefs on others, and I don t like pushing the blame on
everyone else. However, I do try to live up to the standards I set for myself, which can sometimes

The Great Gatsby Failure
Francis Scott Fitzgerald wrote many works of literature including one of his best sellers, The
Great Gatsby. The Great Gatsby was considered to be the depiction of The Roaring Twenties, and
one of the best American novels ever written. During this time, The Roaring Twenties doubled the
nation s wealth, which allowed more people to be rich. This wealth caused a split between social
classes. The ones who had their American Dream, and the ones who did not. With its beautiful
lyricism, pitch perfect portrayal of the Jazz Age, and searching critiques of materialism, love and
the American Dream, The Great Gatsbyis considered Fitzgerald s finest work (biography.com).

In the succeeding years, Fitzgerald s slim tale of the jazz age became the most celebrated and
beloved novel in the American canon. It s more than an American classic; it s become a defining
document of the national psyche, a creation myth, the Rosetta Stone of the American dream. And
yet all the attempts to adapt it to stage and screen have only served to illustrate its fragility and its
flaws. Fitzgerald s prose somehow elevates a lurid and underdeveloped narrative to the level of
myth (McInerney, Jay).
McInerney is trying to say that reading the novel can give you a much better understanding of the
idea that Fitzgerald was originally trying to get across. This idea being the American Dream and
the pursuit of that dream. Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby to show how
people acted during The Jazz Age, the thirst for the American Dream, love, and materialism.
Fitzgerald shows the struggle people went through to try and fulfill their American Dream. Without
this dream, people would not have worked as hard. This time period was ruled by the rich, and
what material items they had. Fitzgerald expressed the way society acted perfectly through his
different characters. Each character had their own version of their American Dream, and that is
what captured so many people s

The Effect Of Calcium On The Reaction Of Hydrogen Peroxide
Introduction: The aim of this experiment was to determine the effect of varying concentrations
of potassium iodide on its reaction with hydrogen peroxide. H2O2(aq) + 2H+(aq) + 2I (aq) в†’

The iodine can be detected by its colour forming a blue black solution. The detection of the iodine
can be enhanced by the addition of starch solution. The sodium thiosulphate will react with the
iodine ions and when the all the sodium thiosulphate has reacted, then the remaining iodine ions
will suddenly appear to form the coloured solution due to the addition of starch. I2(aq) + 2S2O32

The nature of the slow step is not obvious from the balanced equation. The order of reactions

Karma, Clarity, Superstition, And Reality
Alex Miradoli
COLI 110
19 November, 2015
Essay 2
Karma, Clarity, Superstition, and Reality Karma is a powerful influence on humans, but only
when one gives it the power to be influential. The sum of a person s actions in the past can decide
one s fate in the future; this belief is artificial but impacts our moral decision making nonetheless.
Those that walk the path to light are rewarded, and those that travel the road to darkness are
punished. The acceptance of this value may shape one s actions, but in reality this precedent is
simply just a surrogate to fate. In The Story of the Stone, Cao Xueqin used the theme of karma to
illustrate how characters are highly affected by the superstitions they hold. I believe that generosity
and kindness will trigger fruitful benefits in the future, and that unjust actions will come back to
haunt you as well. However, I do not believe that these paths are set in stone after the initial action.
Those that possess good morals should not be rewarded if they become immoral, and those that
commit something unjust should have the chance to redeem themselves. This theme demonstrates
what Marjorie Garber calls the use of literature as a way of thinking in that characters make
decisions due to their belief in this fabricated guideline. Karma has the power to configure the way
we think and act, and its impact on these characters ultimately prompts the reader to do the same.
Those that believe in karma hope that their generous actions will

Illusions Is An Exhibition At Casa Daros
Illusions is an exhibition at Casa Daros, a gallery dedicated to Latin American contemporary art.
The exhibition explores the idea of illusion and art as illusion (fig. 5), with a focus on artists such
as Luis Camnitzer. The Illusions website explores this theme by creating illusions of space, depth
and movement in a virtual space. The website itself functions as an illusion; although objects and
images fly towards the viewer in a resemblance of the three dimensional, they are still only two
dimensional images in two dimensional space. In comparison to The Curious Gardener,
Illusions also uses parallax scrolling to enable the objects to fly towards and away from the
viewer as they scroll through the website (fig. 6). This gives the user the ability to drive and
control the illusions that they are seeing, becoming an active participator in the exhibition. This
use of parallax motion and depth is being used to innovatively explore objects, ornaments,
artworks and furniture, not only in cultural heritage but in a variety of institutions. A cutting edge
example of how parallax scrolling can be used to display objects is Sony s Be Moved (fig. 7). It
is a detailed and technical website that pushes the boundaries of animation and parallax motion as
cameras, laptops and other forms of technical equipment come apart and are re built as the user
scrolls, showing the intricacy and craftsmanship of the objects interiors. Metal, plastic and wires fly

(Medical Schools and Nursing Colleges, 2010). One of the World Health Organization s most
recent areas of concern is addressing mental health. They are focusing on disorders such as
depression, schizophrenia, epilepsy and addictions. The WHO believes that mental and
neurological disorders lead people to a great amount of suffering, dramatically increase their
vulnerability, and lead individuals to a life of poverty. Many people are not aware and tend to
discriminate against people with mental disorders. This discriminations leads to people having
their human rights violated and them being stripped from opportunities that every other citizen
has. If the proper steps are taken to help promote mental health, we will see a great improvement
in the lives of people affected by mental illnesses by helping them to grow and be productive
healthy members of society. In order for the World Health Organization to see these improvements
they need to work with the governments of different countries to improve their laws and policies
about mental illness. These policies need to help address proper treatment plans, prevention plans
and awareness programs. One issue that the World Health Organization is working on fixing
currently is the use of marijuana in adolescence. The World Health Organization has found that use

Hunter Thompson Essay
Of the two articles we were given to read this week from the day after September 11th, 2001, I
preferred the article from the New York Times. Though the article for ESPN by Hunter
Thompson (2001) was more engaging, I could not get past statements like, We are going to
punish somebody for this attack, but just who or what will be blown to smithereens for it is hard
to say (para. 9). Even though I am certainly in support of punishing those who are responsible for
attacks like the ones upon the world trade centers, but the vitriol with which Thompson describes
blowing them to smithereens made my stomach turn. As a result, I cannot say that I liked
Thompson s article. I can say that Thompson s article did a better job of keeping my attention. A

Human beings have passed on knowledge throughout the ages in stories. There is a reason that
more people have probably read the Illiad than straight histories of the Trojan war; we like to

or fun along with facts, it can make the learning process easier. This is something we see and tend
to acknowledge more in children though it is truthful for adults as well. Daniel Willingham
(2004), a cognitive scientist, points out that research has shown [p]eople find material presented in
a story format more engaging than if it is presented in expository text no matter what the topic

information we were exposed to. More than likely, each of us could state more of the facts that

There are countless activities including studying, cooking, driving, or playing an instrument. Other tasks that vision is helpful for would be communicating, working, making life a lot easier, which are very essential. Most people would agree that vision is more valuable than the rest. The eyes allow us to interpret colors and shapes. This happens after a long complex process, starting from the reflect of light on the objects to the eyes and ends up in the brain as images. The other two portions in this layer are the choroid, the posterior and vascular portion which supplies blood to all layers and the ciliary body which is a ring of muscles around the lens used to focus the lens. The lens has a flexible structure that can change shape to precisely focus light on the retina. The Retina is the very interior layer which consists of two layers. The pigmented outer layer which absorbs light and prevents scattering. And the Neural layer composed of bipolar cells, ganglion cells and two types of photoreceptors. The eye is protected by a cushion of fat and a bony orbit surrounding the eye s anterior part. There are also accessory structures that protect the eye and help maintain the eye s function. These accessory structures include the eyelids, eyebrows, lacrimal apparatus, conjunctiva, and the extrinsic eye muscles. The eyebrows function is to shade the eye from sunlight and keep out perspiration from reaching the eye. The eyelids contains the nerves that initiate reflex blinking, and protects the eye s anterior part, because it contains eyelashes at the edges, which prevents debris or small particles like dust or sand from entering the eye. • 3. Socioeconomic Mobility And Social Mobility In the United States, there is a imaginary finish line wanting to be met by its people. Living like the privileged strives people towards working harder to meet that goal, but the amount of hard work being invested into the bigger picture does not really mean you will make it. It is shown that a low percentage of the average hard working person meets the one percent that owns more than half the money circulated within the U.S (Beeghley 2008). Social mobility, where it all begins is taken into account from the day a person is born based on the social classtheir parent or parents are under or above on the ladder. According to the text there are five factors in social mobility those are intergenerational, upward and downward social mobility, structural and exchange mobility. • 4. Boundaries In Relationships The Importance of Setting Boundaries in Your Relationship When we re feeling completely drained, tired, stressed, and exhausted all the time, many of us don t realize that this is caused by not setting boundaries in our relationships and our lives. When we leave ourselves too vulnerable to our partner, the result can be feeling unseen, under appreciated, and unsupported. There are several reasons why setting boundaries is vitally important for your personal wellbeing, and even the well being of your partner. We re going to discuss just a few of these reasons here, while also providing tips for how you can begin to set boundaries today. One of the primary reasons why you need to find your own personal borders is that it is necessary for creating a sense of self. If you don t have boundaries there is a very good chance that you don t have a solid sense of who you are as an individual. Perhaps you take on the thoughts of your partner, you embody their feelings, ideas, values, and beliefs, as if they were your own. The term enmeshment is used to describe this phenomenon, and when you ve been in a relationship for quite some time, you may not even know that it s happening. ... • 5. Price Value Of A Product Or Service First of all, price represents the value of a good or service for both seller and buyer. The value attached to a good or service is based on both tangible elements (such as product quality and benefits) as well as intangible elements (the feel good factor taken into consideration for luxury products). Price is the only element in the marketingmix that produces revenue; all other elements represent costs. (Sallie Phillips, 2015, p.99); it also represents a relevant factor in the decision to purchase a product or a service. It affects both the sales volume and profit. Establishing the value of a product or service is not easy. A wide variety of relevant factors such as the cost of goods or services, the market factors, sales volume, competition, economic conditions, must be taken into consideration. Although, price desideratum is an ideal hard to reach, the price should be high enough to cover the costs and generate revenue.Pricing it may have different guidelines. The most relevant pricing strategies are cost based pricing, value based pricing, and competition based pricing. The cost based pricing strategy is determined by the total product cost plus an individual profit. The most significant advantage of this approach is that it guarantees to cover the costs of the production of the good or service. The price is made by various types of costs (fixed costs and variable costs). Fixed costs do not vary depending on the level of production and sales. For example, a company ... • 7. Power Of Rightwing Groups With Donald Trump s election into the White House, the rightwing of American politics gained power like they ve never had before. As their power progresses, it is incredibly important that both Democrats and Moderate Republicans devise a strategy to hinder the spread of these ideas and limit their power. The most important ways in which these individuals should resist the growing influence of these rightwing groups include: focusing less on social issues and more on economic policy, calling out rightwing anti race rhetoric and dog whistle politics, and by staying away from becoming an extremist group themselves. It is only through these methods that we can oppose rightwing politics and take the power away from the groups that currently have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only will this process take legitimacy away from the Democrats in the long run, but it will also only cause the rightwing to go further to the right. The only way to successfully oppose the rightwing movement is to remain as logical and level headed as is possible. This is demonstrated in Claire Conner s experiences with the John Birch Society. While the society was incredibly powerful at one time, they eventually began to collapse once they went after prominent leaders. Many soon saw them as radical and un logical. As we let the rightwing movements spiral more and more out of control, anyone who is even close to moderate will leave them, thus weakening their power. Providing those whose opinions begin to dissent from this group an alternative is vital to opposing them. Another reason why it is so important to shy away from radical behavior and ideas is that it will make other liberal arguments weaker. It will be near impossible to convince rightwing supporters that their leaders are using coded racial appeals when they have already written us off. One argument that has pushed liberals further away from logically discussion and further toward extremist emotional appeals is the, Trump is just like Hitler saying. • 10. The Mexican American War Of Mexico The Mexican American War was the war between the United States and Mexico that took place in 1846 through 1848 over disputes of land. By the time that the United States invaded Mexico, Mexico had very few resources left to defend its nation, causing the United States to win the war and making it possible for it to claim half of New Mexicos national territory. However, prior to the Mexican America War, tired and exhausted Mexico was fighting a few battles of its own. The City of Mexico was living in fear due to the destruction Comanche Indians and their allies brought upon Mexico. During the 1830 s through 1840 s, prior to the Mexican American War, Comanche Indians, Kiowa s, and other Indian allies invaded and attacked Mexican settlements by using tactics such as raids. These raids claimed the lives of many Indians and Mexicans, destroyed most of Northern Mexico s economy and slowed down Mexico s growth. The raids by the Comanche Indians were what eventually shaped the outcome of the Mexican American war. [San Diego: Harcourt, 1992] 23) the speaker stands in the woods, considering a fork in the road. Both ways are equally worn, and equally overlaid with un trodden leaves. The speaker chooses one, telling himself that he will take the other another day. Yet he knows it is unlikely that he will have the opportunity to do so. And he admits that someday in the future he will recreate the scene with a slight twist: he will claim that he took the less traveled road. The whole poem is an extended metaphor, where Frost describes a path in the woods that is directly comparable to a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frost presents to the reader a man s decision, at a turning point in his life, symbolized by two roads diverged in a yellow wood. In the first line, Frost introduces the elements of his primary metaphor: the diverging roads. The speaker expresses his regret that [he] could not travel both (line 2). The choice is not easily made since long I stood (line 3) before coming to a decision. In an attempt to make a choice, the traveler examines the path as far as [he] could (line 4), but his vision is limited because the path bends and is covered in the undergrowth (line 5). Thus, indicating that although he would have liked to acquire more information, he is prevented from doing so because of the nature of his environment. In lines 6 8, the speaker is still unable to decide between the two paths since the other, [is] just as fair (line 6). He indicates that the second path is a more attractive choice since it was grassy and wanted wear (line 8). Nevertheless, by the end of the stanza, he remains ambivalent, even after comparing the two paths, for each was really about the same (line 10). Neither path has been traveled lately. In the third stanza, the speaker makes his decision, trying to persuade himself that he will eventually come back (line 15) to satisfy his desire and curiosity to travel both paths. These phases might overlap at times (Porth, 2011). Inflammatory Phase The inflammatory phase starts at the time of injury with the formation of a blood clot and the migration of phagocytic white blood cells into the wound site. The first cells to arrive, the neutrophils, ingest and remove bacteria and cellular debris. After twenty four hours, the neutrophils are joined by macrophages that continue to ingest cellular debris and play an important role in the production of growth factors for the proliferative phase (Porth, 2011). Through their actions, verbally and in all manners known to them, this group upholds obscene vices that are a deterrent to the community s standards of decency (Ryder 210). Obscene practices extend to those materials that are intended to invoke impure sexual thoughts. These materials spread in publications to schools and public libraries at high rates. The question arises that, to what limit should a material be labeled as obscene? Certain fiction writers do not consider the use of euphemisms in their works and at certain times cause intentional ambiguity that attracts diverse reactions from their readers. This phenomenon comes about from what is termed as the reception theory. The mind tends to develop in accordance with the exposure (Cossman 50). • 31. English Class Reflection I can say with a high degree of confidence that AP Upper Mid English has been unlike any other English course that I have taken during my academic career. Put plainly, the material and in class instruction of the class is revelatory in every sense of the term, and, overall, the organization and matter of the course was exceptional. In terms of the organization of the course as a whole, I believe that the English Department was able to successfully distill all of the dominant aspects of learning that an English class epitomizes into the relatively short period of time that school is in session. In my experience, I have found the class to be organized and structured competently. The schedule, curriculum, and writingassignments were easy to understand and I felt as though I exited the classroom every class feeling as if I accomplished what I had to for that day and I had a definite grip on what to expect for the next class. That being said, I think it is also imperative for me to mention that the course was not overly constricting or overly structured either the schedule had enough malleability to accommodate for impromptu activities. For instance, when Bob Levy, an acclaimed journalist for the Washington Post, visited Taft, our class used our period to have a invigorating conversation with him about the future of Internet Privacy, a conversation that I think was instructive and, in all likelihood, prepared me for the AP Exam just as much as the traditional class that we ... A discussion about St. Thomas University by my one of my travel softball coaches who is also the head coach at St. Thomas was the first thing that attracted me to the school. She frequently talks about the school and therefore I already know a great deal about it. A few times I actually had the opportunity to playscrimmage games against the St. Thomas University softball players and sometimes they come to our practices and help out; it is obvious in observing their behavior on and off the field that they are leaders because they carry themselves in a mature and diligent manner. These days those qualities seem tough to find, and it surprised me to see a whole team with type of character. I will more than likely commit to St. Thomas to play softball, but I m still waiting on some other schools. Benefits Of Lowering The Drinking Age To 21 Chrissy Hartung Ms. Bredenkoetter English III 21 January 2016 Lowering the Drinking Age to 21 From the suburbs, to school campuses, to city streets, adolescents will find a way to get around the 21 year old limit. Alcohol has become a large part of teenager s lives in America, despite the legal drinking limit of 21 years of age. Teenagers have resorted to sneaking alcohol around, causing unsafe drinking habits to take place, and the Lowering the legal drinking age to 18 would allow individuals to experience life as an adult, decrease unsafe drinking activity, and diminish the amount of times the law is broken. • 35. White Trash Primer Essay English 112 7 May 2013 The Judgement In the short, personal memoir, White Trash Primer, Lacy M. Johnson talks about a girl s life from childhood to her early adult life. Johnson begins her piece by talking about the girl s childhood that seemed like an average child s life growing up in a rural area. This girl grew up in a family where her family was constantly working hard on a farm to get by. As time went on, life s circumstances changed. The child began to mature and the family was forced to move due to financial problems. From the move, the family went from owning a farm and selling corn and soy beans, to a family that was forced to work at Wal Mart. Depression eventually takes over the girl s life and her lifestyle changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another great thing I took away from reading this memoir is that everyone looks at the same things, but in different ways. For example, the main character in Johnson s memoir constantly went into Wal Mart looking for a job. After applying six times, she finally got hired. Some might have seen her as being a pest or an interruption to the other employees, while others saw her as being a determined individual that knew what she wanted. Everyone saw the same lady walking into the store, but all of their impressions were very different. Learning that everyone sees the world in a different manner then led to me wanting to be kind hearted woman to everyone that I meet. Impressions are everything, so it is better to give a person the benefit of the doubt since their life stories are not revealed at the time they are seen. The last lesson I took away from reading Johnson s piece is a person can go from living a comfortable life without the amenities, but with all the necessities, to a life where there is nothing at all. There are certain events that happen in your life that can change your life completely. Johnson is not the only person who is extremely satisfied with this piece. Many of her readers feel the same joy. One of her readers by the name of Claudia Rankine writes on an online blog saying: I was riveted by this piece written with the haunting interiority of poetry and the compelling drive of prose. This is supported when they are in the loft and the narrator says, And before I ll help you down from the loft, you re going to have to touch it. (Page 387). He is threatening to leave Doodle up in the loft, all alone, until he touches the mahogany box which was to be his coffin. Doodle becomes very frightened by this intimidation, which is probably the cause of his fear later in the story. This causes conflict between Doodle and his older sibling because Doodle basically cannot do anything without his brother, and if he is left, he becomes panicked. Obviously, in The Scarlet Ibis, Doodle has many reasons to strive for the targets set by his brother, even though he does not have a competitive nature. One reason is that he wants to make his brother proud, which causes internal conflict for the narrator. Karma, Clarity, Superstition, And Reality Alex Miradoli COLI 110 19 November, 2015 Essay 2 Karma, Clarity, Superstition, and Reality Karma is a powerful influence on humans, but only when one gives it the power to be influential. The sum of a person s actions in the past can decide one s fate in the future; this belief is artificial but impacts our moral decision making nonetheless. Those that walk the path to light are rewarded, and those that travel the road to darkness are punished. The acceptance of this value may shape one s actions, but in reality this precedent is simply just a surrogate to fate. In The Story of the Stone, Cao Xueqin used the theme of karma to illustrate how characters are highly affected by the superstitions they hold. I believe that generosity and kindness will trigger fruitful benefits in the future, and that unjust actions will come back to haunt you as well. However, I do not believe that these paths are set in stone after the initial action. Those that possess good morals should not be rewarded if they become immoral, and those that commit something unjust should have the chance to redeem themselves. This theme demonstrates what Marjorie Garber calls the use of literature as a way of thinking in that characters make decisions due to their belief in this fabricated guideline. Karma has the power to configure the way we think and act, and its impact on these characters ultimately prompts the reader to do the same. • 51. Illusions Is An Exhibition At Casa Daros Illusions is an exhibition at Casa Daros, a gallery dedicated to Latin American contemporary art. The exhibition explores the idea of illusion and art as illusion (fig. 5), with a focus on artists such as Luis Camnitzer. The Illusions website explores this theme by creating illusions of space, depth and movement in a virtual space. The website itself functions as an illusion; although objects and images fly towards the viewer in a resemblance of the three dimensional, they are still only two dimensional images in two dimensional space. In comparison to The Curious Gardener, Illusions also uses parallax scrolling to enable the objects to fly towards and away from the viewer as they scroll through the website (fig. 6). This gives the user the ability to drive and control the illusions that they are seeing, becoming an active participator in the exhibition. This use of parallax motion and depth is being used to innovatively explore objects, ornaments, artworks and furniture, not only in cultural heritage but in a variety of institutions. A cutting edge example of how parallax scrolling can be used to display objects is Sony s Be Moved (fig. 7). It is a detailed and technical website that pushes the boundaries of animation and parallax motion as cameras, laptops and other forms of technical equipment come apart and are re built as the user scrolls, showing the intricacy and craftsmanship of the objects interiors. Metal, plastic and wires fly towards the screen with an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the World Health Organization s most recent areas of concern is addressing mental health. They are focusing on disorders such as depression, schizophrenia, epilepsy and addictions. The WHO believes that mental and neurological disorders lead people to a great amount of suffering, dramatically increase their vulnerability, and lead individuals to a life of poverty. Many people are not aware and tend to discriminate against people with mental disorders. This discriminations leads to people having their human rights violated and them being stripped from opportunities that every other citizen has. If the proper steps are taken to help promote mental health, we will see a great improvement in the lives of people affected by mental illnesses by helping them to grow and be productive healthy members of society. In order for the World Health Organization to see these improvements they need to work with the governments of different countries to improve their laws and policies about mental illness. These policies need to help address proper treatment plans, prevention plans and awareness programs. One issue that the World Health Organization is working on fixing currently is the use of marijuana in adolescence. • 53. Hunter Thompson Essay Of the two articles we were given to read this week from the day after September 11th, 2001, I preferred the article from the New York Times. Though the article for ESPN by Hunter Thompson (2001) was more engaging, I could not get past statements like, We are going to punish somebody for this attack, but just who or what will be blown to smithereens for it is hard to say (para. 9). Even though I am certainly in support of punishing those who are responsible for attacks like the ones upon the world trade centers, but the vitriol with which Thompson describes blowing them to smithereens made my stomach turn. As a result, I cannot say that I liked Thompson s article. I can say that Thompson s article did a better job of keeping my attention. A large portion of the New York Times reporting from Litsky and Williams (2001) was a listing of cancelled events which, while informative, is just not very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Human beings have passed on knowledge throughout the ages in stories. There is a reason that more people have probably read the Illiad than straight histories of the Trojan war; we like to have a story to think about as opposed to a fact sheet to memorize. If you can incorporate thought or fun along with facts, it can make the learning process easier. This is something we see and tend to acknowledge more in children though it is truthful for adults as well. Daniel Willingham (2004), a cognitive scientist, points out that research has shown [p]eople find material presented in a story format more engaging than if it is presented in expository text no matter what the topic (para. 5). Reporting in a narrative keeps the reader interested and this results in better retention of information we were exposed to. More than likely, each of us could state more of the facts that Thompson pointed out in his story than list cancelled events reported by Litsky and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
