Social Networking Effects On The Socialization Of People
What if Facebook was used to its fullest potential? In twelve years the social networking
site has surely grown quite a bit from the site intended to allow Harvard students to connect with
one another. Today, Facebook is a site filled with advertisements and cheaply made free to play
games. Cat pictures and cheery posts that say, Like/share if you love Jesus! riddle the
landscape of a service that is supposed to be actually connecting people. Things like this have led
people to lose hope in online social networking. To some it seems like it has become a detriment
to society. However, the results of what happens when it is used properly should not be
overlooked. Online social networking in general promotes actual relationships and benefits our
society by providing a medium perfect for connecting with people in a variety of ways. As with
everything, there are those who think differently, believing that social
networking has adverse effects on the socialization of people. It s still surprising to me,
however, this combination of Orwell and WALL E that has humans watching one another
through computer screens and socializing through in quasi isolation, remarks an article
on Times.com (Davis). Those of that opinion think that indirect communication via online
social networking will lead to increased isolationist tendencies. While these seem like valid
concerns, if anything, those feared online social networks actually help people in social

Essay about Copyright Laws No Longer Relevant in a Digital...
Assignment 2 Research Essay
Many say the current copyright laws in Australia are not adequate for a digital age. Do you
agree with this point of view, and explain the academic research which leads you to this
conclusion. Discuss two examples of copyright law which you believe are no longer relevant in a
digital age and provide evidence for the changes you would propose, by analysing current media
reports and supporting research?
The way a person writes, learns, gathers information, purchases items, listens to music, watches
television and films etc., has gradually changed over time. These simple tasks are now conducted

The same concept similarly applies to photographs online and in electronic form. The section
fails to be clear on whether a person who acquires a copy of a digital photograph, for example by
downloading it from [a source on] the internet, [is] the owner of that copy (Smiers, 2005). Another
condition that is flawed is where the reproduction of an original photograph is prohibited if the
person uses the reproduced copy to make further reproductions. This allows a person to infringe
copyright once without payment to copyright, yet not allow them to do so further, when they
should not be granted to do so at all. The exception also does not abide by the World Intellectual
Property Organisation Copyright Treaty (1996) and its three step test, which outlines that
exceptions must only apply in certain special cases..., not conflict with a normal exploitation of a
work and do not unreasonably prejudice the legitimate interests of the author . Ultimately by
reproducing the material in a different form which copyright holders sell and license, without
payment or permission in the first place, the exception permits a person to effectively undertake in
piracy. In order for section 47J to be considered adequate in a digital age,

John Christopher Dep Essay
As we have discussed in class, star persona is when an actor or actress have been categorized into
specific roles because of previous similar characters they chose to perform as in multiple movies,
skits, and or television series. Obviously, as a new comer into the Hollywood acting business
coming from Kentucky with his wife, John Christopher Depp had the power to become anyone
he wanted to be, and even now he has the power to try to be the person he might not want to be,
but need to be for the better sake of his career. Starting off his career with such a strong force
really allowed Depp to be launched further into the television and filmindustry. As stated in IMDb,
Depp starred in a low budget horror film, The Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), roughly around
$1,800,000. And in 1987, Depp went onto the hit television show 21 Jump Street to replace Jeff

immature and uncontrollable. Depp says in an article by Elizabeth Wagele called Johnny Depp,

Does Corruption Create Poverty By Walden Bello Analysis
A Critical Review of Walden Bello, 2014, Does Corruption Create Poverty?
Foreign Policy In Focus.
I.Introduction
Walden Bello in his article Does Corruption Create poverty? gives us an idea of corruption is not
the main root of poverty and what the real causes of poverty are. I am grateful that Bello s
argument that corruption is not a main root of poverty is meaningful, he indicates the links between
the economy and corruption, as well as politic and corruption. This paper will review Walden Bello
s article as also his main arguments, and will evaluate the quality of Bello s writing and focus on
any areas of weakness within the story. The following points, statistic data inference or

It erodes trust in government s work and does not lead to economic recession and stagnation. In my
opinion, the author fails to provide adequate information to supports this claim. The author does not
only give wrong example, China and Philippines, but also mis inference. Corruption in my
perspective is the termite that erodes wood and correlation between poverty and corruption. Poverty
gives rise to corruption, while corruption worsens poverty. Corruption distorts and changes direction
of economic growth. It cuts down and takes an aquarium of economic development and functioning
of the country (Johnston, 2009). This is similar to Anup Shah s article that poverty is originated by
corruption and a consequence of poverty; it happens all over the world and affects not only
individual but also society and growth of the country (Shah, 2011). Thus, it is obvious that
corruption is a major threat and a cause of poverty thanks to it discredits trustworthiness in public
reign internally and externally. This leads to ineffectiveness and hindrance of various development

Causes Of Computer Crime
In the United States, there are currently more than 85 million adults and around 10 million
children with access to the Internet from a North America investigation web site fact. With these
numbers you can understand why cyber stalking is so common these days more than ever. With
the emergence of technology, computer crime has been increasing at rapid rate. The first type of
computer crime that has the potential to cause high levels of distress and damage is cyberstalking.
Cyberstalking can be defined as using the Internet or other electronic means to harass, intimidate,
threaten, monitor or make unwanted advances towards another people. It can involve direct
communications through e mails, chat rooms sites, bulletin boards or social sites such as twitter,
snapchat and Instagram. The motivations for cyber stalking and harassment can range from
many different things. One motivation is to seek a romantic attachment with a person they
probably wouldn t have a chance to talk to in the real world. Another reason for cyber stalking
can be a rejected person trying to seek revenge on that person, something that is very commonly
heard these days. Cyber stalking can even be used for political motives, when it comes to
harassing a group of people who might have different thoughts as the harasser. One of the post
popular forms of cyber stalking is identity fraud which can involve a wide range of activities. Such
as posting communications as if they are from victim that may include

Overcoming Fears In The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
Overcoming Fears I killed him, he said slowly. I killed that boy (Hinton 56). In the book The
Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, they talk about a boy named Johnny that killed a boy, and the growth
of a child named Ponyboy. Johhnny Cade has many names. To live on the rundown section of
Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the 1960 s you are not expected to be wealthy or to have an emotional
attachment to things. That is what the Greaser s were; they jumped, stole, and went to jail. People
would never expect them to be educated or that somebody loves them. The Greasers were all there
for each other, they loved one another like family. This boy, his family is the gang

backgrounds that Johnny grows up in, you can see why the names given to him. These titles are
not just words. They explain who he is. Suspicious, damaged, and a hero are all labels to
describe Johnny Cade. Suspicious is a word that describes Johnny very well. He had a nervous,
suspicious look in his eyes, and that beating from the Socs didn t help matters. (Hinton 31) The
Socs jumped Johnny and ever since the incident he was always looking around and scared that, he
was going to be in that situation again. It was killing Johnny. He had never been a coward. He was
a good man in a rumble. He stuck up for the gang and kept his mouth shut around the cops. But

The Creation Of Israel By John F. Kennedy
Joey Dettore
Mrs. Whitney
Global Perspectives
3/15/16
The Creation of Israel Israel was not created in order to disappear Israel will endure and flourish.
It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor
demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom.
These are John F. Kennedy s thoughts and opinions upon the creation of Israel. In the time leading
up to the creation of Israel, the Jews had endured much suffering through the terrible acts of the
Holocaust. Jews have proven to rise from the despair and the suffering that they had to endure and
they ultimately created something stupendous: their own country. There have been many obstacles
in the way for the Jews to do this, the biggest being the Arab Palestinians. The Arab Palestinians
objected to the Arab Jews forming a nation and if it were not for the help of the United States,
Israel would have never been able to overrule the power of the Arab Palestinians and take over the
land for themselves. With tremendous support from the United States, the creation of Israel
exemplifies the joyous and magnificent accomplishment that not only Arab Jews accomplished, but
all Jews. In the time leading up to the creation of Israel, the Jews were motivated to establish their
own country in the territory of Palestine with the support of other countries around the world. There
were many contributions that lead to the creation of

Persuasive Essay On The Problems Of A Teacher
Many students and teachers in Seneca share the same goal: to make sure grades are high. For
grades to stay up, it s important that teachers make sure their students do well in class especially
on the tests. This may not seem like a problem, but it is. Students are incapable of learning to the
best of their abilities because of teachers tendencies to focus specifically on testing. In my high
school career so far, I have experienced many occasions in which this thought process has been
apparent. For me, science labs have been the most prevalent for this method of teaching. Science
has always been a class that I would receive good grades in, but looking back, it wasn t for the
right reasons. My high grades in a class like Biology didn t come from insight on how the cell
works and how all the organelles work together like a city; they came from weeks of drilling
facts and information into my brain so I could regurgitate them onto a piece of paper that meant
more to me only because it was called a test or quiz. I end up getting an A on the test which
supposedly shows that my teacher did a good job teaching. It seems like a win win situation for
both parties, but in reality, this way of teaching is problematic. The issue with teaching to the test is
it impedes students from truly understanding the content. Instead of having students go deep into a
topic and fully comprehending it from several angles, some teachers will choose a question and
only consider one way to solve it.

Community Service Reflection
Community service is a very special and important activity when it comes to wanting to not only
better your community but also connect with the community in a way that is not possible in your
everyday life. For this semester I experimented with a different types of community service, it
ranges all the way from giving bloodto helping out my local no kill animal shelter. Doing all of
these things really opened up my eyes, it made me realize how much our community needs our
help, and if we do not put forth the effort nothing is going to change or get better. I am not saying
what I did over this semester changed anything, but I now know all the benefits of community
service and hope that one day in the near future I can contribute in a way that is beneficial to others
of my community.
The very first thing I did this semester was helping my local veterans club (Veterans of Foreign
Wars) out during their busy bingo nights on Saturday. The only reason I even heard of this was
because of my mother s boyfriend, he is a Navy veteran and he asked me if I could help them out
one night, and so I did. After the first time, I realized that people take Bingo very serious, people
also take their food very seriously. The way I helped them was I would go in the kitchen and
basically do everything, I would take their orders, cook them their food, put their food on the tray,
and then I had to deliver the food to them because they had trouble walking. That is a lot of work
for only two people,

Media s Influence On Media
Humans have been a focus for marketers for over 100 years and at the rise of the twentieth
century, mass media became widely recognized. In a period of mass availability, people today
have entry to more media outlets than ever before. According to media scholar Jean Kilbourne,
the average American is exposed to over 3,000 advertisements a day and watches three years
worth of television ads over the course of a lifetime (back cover). It is all around us, from the
shows we watch on television, the music we listen to on the radio, and to the books and magazines
we read each day. Media is the number one source for advertising. Advertising is a manipulative
enterprise that uses subtle techniques to persuade consumers into accepting whatever sales pitch
[that is] presented to them (Blades, Oates, and Blumberg 3). The vast majority of people do not
think that advertising has any influence on them. To their surprise, this is what advertisers want
the general population to believe; however, if that were true, why would companies spend over
$200 billion a year on advertising (Kilbourne 33)? The media has full control to decide what the
public sees and how it is portrayed.
Some argue that people benefit from exposure to the media and it s advertising. The media
provides us with most of our information about the political process (Buckingham 5). Through
news channels such as CNN and Fox News, people are offered an opportunity to learn and develop
their own political view and

Causes Of Dropouts In The UAE
Should I really drop out? he sadly said I think have no other choice, besides I cannot even afford
it In the recent years of UAE, a good amount of students are dropping out of universities. Why are
the classes getting empty? Where are the students leaving? Setting the education off the priorities
is something normal now in the UAE, but from a logical point of view it should not be normal. It
is safe to say that increase rate of dropouts can be added to the list of problems that UAE faces. For
instance, the American University of Sharjahonce showed that 30% of students drop out after the
freshmen year, and this is just one university out of many in the UAE. There are many different
causes behind this problem for sure. The most important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Analysts polled by Reuters in 2014 showed that the average inflation in the UAE
would rise by 2.5 percent in 2014, 2.7 percent 2015, and expected to accelerate more in the
incoming years ( UAE Inflation, 2014, para. 2). In other words, inflation is striking in all over
UAE, and paying for tuition fees is becoming harder than ever. For example, the American
University of Sharjah office of registrar stated on the undergraduate catalog of 2010 2011 that
the tuition fee per semester is approximately 37,000 dhs whereas the tuition fee per semester of
2016 2017 is about 50,000 dhs. A probable reason why students are dropping out is they come
from a poor financial background, where the parents find some difficulties to pay the tuition fees,
or they have other expenses to commit to such as rents, debts, and regular consumptions.
Furthermore, a second reason could be the lack of earning scholarships or financial aids. In the
recent years, universities lean towards to be pickier in the admission of the scholarships; as a
result, students are forced to drop out as they rely fully on the scholarships. In my case, I had the
same problem and I was not able to maintain the scholarship. I was about to drop out, but thank god

The Destruction Of Our Democracy
The Destruction of Our Democracy
All contributions by corporations to any political committee or for any political purpose should be
forbidden by law . This quote from Theodore Roosevelt illustrates how corporate money can be
disastrous when entangled in elections. Unfortunately, the United States continues to grant large
corporations the ability to donate to campaigns, leading to a corrupt campaign system. The
Supreme Court decided in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that companies and
Super PAC s can donate an unlimited amount of money to endorse candidates. The Citizens United
ruling has caused increased political corruption in the United States by giving candidates the money
they need to win an election while changing policies that would be beneficial to their corporate
donors and not the American people.
Pre Citizens United
There were several landmark Supreme Court cases and laws before Citizens United that
attempted to regulate campaign contributions. Political corruption is easily caused by immense
sums of funds going to a candidate. A candidate will be more likely to benefit corporate interests
because that will allow them access to more capital later to help in reelection efforts. This
becomes problematic because average citizens do not have the capacity to donate large sums of
money to a candidate. A large corporation s speech is thus, worth far more than the average citizen.
This drastically impacts the marketplace of ideas. John Stuart Mills in

The Negative Effects Of Technology On Communication
Did you know that Canadians between 18 and 34 years old are spending on average 34 hours
per week on the Internet? This number is only increasing as the years go by. Around 74% of
individuals 65 and up are using the Internet regularly. This is a drastic change from 10 years ago,
as it has increased by 54% (Thomson, 2017). How have we come so far, but to feel like we aren t
going anywhere? Things need to be done if we want to see any change for the future. There is a
significant correlation between technology and communication. By addressing the negative effects
that technology has on face to face communication, how technology has changed the way we
communicate with others, and why we expect more from technology rather than with another
human being, we can better understand the many factors that we must acknowledge in order for us
to move forward.
Technology is a great distraction everywhere; whether it is at home, in the office, or when
travelling. Hundreds of thousands of people suffer injuries from accidents caused by distracted
driving involving technology. People become so distracted at work that they forget about more
pressing matters (Kazmeyer, n.d.). Technology has become an important part of the way we
communicate. It has gone so far as to take the place of face to face communication (Drago, 2015).

Conclusion Of Forensic Accounting
Maurice E. Peloubet is credited with developing the term forensic accounting in his 1946 essay
Forensic Accounting: Its
Place in Today s Economy. By the late 1940s, forensic accounting had proven its worth during
World War II; however, formalized procedures were not put in place until the 1980s when major
academic studies in the field were published
(Rasey, 2009). Since the 1980s in some Western countries, particularly in the USA, a new
profession in the field of accounting and auditing has emerged. This profession identifies a field
composed of accounting, auditing, and investigative skills (Ozkul and Pamukc, 2012).
Forensic accounting is the area of the accountancy area which describes engagements that result
from actual or anticipated disputes or litigation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Forensic accounting is the accounting that is appropriate for legal review, and provide the highest
level of assurance, and including the generally accepted connotation of having been reached at in a
scientific way. That is, forensic accounting is adequately thorough and complete so that an
accountant, in his/her considered independent professional judgment, can deliver a finding, as to the
accounts, inventories, or the presentation therafter that is of such quality that it would be
sustainable in some adversarial legal proceeding, or within some judicial or administrative review
(Crumbley, 2007). As a forerunner to the above view,
Manning (2002) also defines forensic accounting as the application of financial accounting and
investigative skills to a standard acceptable by the courts to address issues in dispute in the context
of civil and criminal litigation . While this study agrees that financial scandals in business

Family Assessment Research Paper
Family Assessment
Introduction and identification of family
The family is the basic unit of society. When a family member becomes ill, the entire family is
affected. Family assessment is important because assessing the family s structure and style will
help formulate an effective teaching plan. It also helps to examine the strengths and barriers in the
family. Health promotion and health maintenance for children and their families are foundational
for all nursing care. Having specific knowledge about one s genetic makeup and associated
increased risk for disease provides a basis for health screening and may provide motivation for
people to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Early diagnosis allows early intervention with health

People with Huntington disease fatigue easily, so it is important for him to take several short
breaks throughout the day. Physical activity is also important. It can be as simple as walking
around the block. Incorporating exercise and movement in the daily routine is very important.
Conservation of structural integrity
Apathy and decreased motivation are two of the most disabling symptoms of Huntington s disease,
which could be wrongfully labelled as laziness. To prevent pressure ulcers, G.S should be included
in activities that rely mainly on gross motor skills such as sweeping, raking leaves, bringing the
clothes in off the line, and folding the clothes.
Conservation of personal integrity
People with HD, and particularly those living in residential care facilities, often lose their
identities when caregivers and support staff become too intensely focused on their medical care
and support needs. Immediate physical needs have to be balanced with opportunities for
individuals to be recognized as more than just a disease . Creating a personal print or video diary, a
scrap book or a photo album is one enjoyable way for people to record their interests and personal
histories. It can also be used as a tool to stimulate discussion and reinforce the person s identity as

Macbeth s Heroic Manhood
In Shakespeare s Macbeth, heroic manhood is shown as a violent combat zone where men are
obligated to gain honor through violence at whatever cost. The heroic man is seen as dominant,
powerful, and influential in Macbeth s times. In battle, the man has a chance to portray his
masculinity by violently destroying all in his path. The society and culture value brutality over
temperance. Therefore, society s idea of manhood has the ability to even make men go against their
morals for the purpose of procuring the ideal manhood. This struggle for a male to conform to the
ideal of manhood endorsed by the culture and society is portrayed through the protagonist Macbeth.
In the opening scene of the play, Macbeth is described as a hero with all the necessary attributes
of a great warrior. Like no other on the battlefield, he is depicted having superhuman strength as he
fights mercilessly to defend his kingdom (I.2.15 23). However, once he is ... Show more content on

(II.2.54 56). His fears unveil his madness and frailty, which endanger his manhood.
Since his need for Lady Macbeth diminished his sense of manliness, he forces himself to separate
from her in order to prove his own identity as a manly king. While leaving his wife in sorrowful
ignorance, he plots the murder of Banquo (III.2.166 127). This action proves to Macbeth that he

The History of Sex Workers
Sex Workers
There are many different ideas as to what a sex worker is. A sex worker is someone who uses
sexual acts in return for money, services, or products. The person benefiting on behalf of the sex
worker can be the actual sex worker or someone referred to as a pimp. Throughout history, people
around the world have had different views of sexuality. Sex work is an area of sexuality that has
been around for centuries. There are many different areas of sex work. There are such things as
prostitution, pornography, sex tourism, and the sex trade. Sex workers are present in almost every
country.

This attracted many Western pedophiles. The supply of customers caused pimps to acquire

Thai officials were bribed or in some cases offered a portion of the profits of the trade (Jubilee,

women with girly qualities. The result of this trend is a steadily increasing demand for underage

unfortunate circumstances the child sex trade has steadily grown and it is estimated that every year
one million children are enter the sex trade (World Congress, overview, 2.)

Taking a Look at Evolutionary Psychology
Evolutionary Psychology is a practice of social and natural sciences that studies human
characteristics through the lens of modern evolutionary theory. This is exactly what Dunbar and his
colleges attempt to do with the family in their book. The discussion of the family has to start with
defining what parentinvolvement actually is. The authors of the book Evolutionary Psychology use
Robert Trivers definition from 1972 that states, any investment by the parent in an individual
offspring that increases the offspring s chance of surviving at the cost of parent s ability to invest
in other offspring . This means that if a parent of a individual uses any of their resources to help
improve their child s chance of survival, meaning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second circumstance for infanticide is if the child is born with severe disabilities or
deformities for the simple reason of is the child worth the investment. Is involved in a child s life
who is going to require more of an investment that an average child, and still highly unlikely to
reproduce worth it? Twins are a similar circumstance. Parents have the dilemma of possibly of not
having adequate resources for both children at the same time. So infanticide could be logical in
this situation so the parents could invest heavily into one of the twins to help ensure the best
opportunity for the child throughout life as opposed to dividing the resources in half. This leads
into the last circumstance, which is just not having the adequate amount of resources to raise even
a single child. This practice is exemplified to the rate of aborted children or children sent to
orphanages in young single women, or old married women who have had several children prior.
Also discussed is how unique the human family is. Human fathers are involved in their children s
lives more than any other species and humans are the only species where grandparents exist. The
explanation for these occurrences are that the human infant is so dependant that it needs the support
of more than just a mother, and even just the mother and father in some cases. The occurrence of
grandparents can also be explained by the phenomenon of menopause. The human

Diversity Of A New Rocket Ship
The topic of diversity is an ever growing discussion to encourage inclusion of different people,
cultures, and backgrounds into the global marketplace. In my issue paper, I will explore the idea
of diversity, its benefits, and how it can be included within key sectors of the business world.
Diversity is an important factor to the business place that allows employees and customers to
interact with companies that value their background as an essential part of their business plan
company culture. There are a myriad of benefits that diversity brings can bring to a company but
most of my readings reflected on three main ideas of driving innovation, bettering recruitment, and
capturing the global market. Diversity of race, gender, and social view can increase innovation
and creativity. How does diversity do this? When different people are brought together to complete
a task or solve a problem, they are bringing different information, perspective, and opinions. The
need for diversity of expertise is obvious: the building of a new rocket ship requires the expertise of
designers, engineers, and quality control experts. But informational diversity brings unique
dimensions and experiences to thinking through a task. Oftentimes being with those that are similar
to us can lead us to think that we hold the same details and information or share the same
perspective, which hinders creativity and innovation. Being in diverse groups can lead us to asking
more questions and more

Since the 1980 s, rappers have used countless amounts of substance references in their lyrics,

The Fallen Woman Of 2005
The Fallen Woman of 2005 The Leading Relationship
The 2005 Salzburg Festival saw a new iteration of Verdi s classic La Traviata, that is, on the
other hand, based on Alexandre Dumas s The Lady of the Camellias. We believe that a classic
piece s staging can prove to be either the sowing the seeds of a grand success, or an ungrateful
mission, as most people approach such performances intentionally or unintentionally with ample
preconceptions. As we have learned after some basic research in the field, our current subject is
considered to have lived up to the expectations, becoming the newly set golden standard of said
preconceptions.
The premises
Succeeding a series of much criticized music performances, Willi Decker s approach on La Traviata
caused a relative and absolute impact in the opera scene. Although we do not approve
wholeheartedly with the style, better said, lack of scenery and costumes, lacking abundant objects,
there are no distractions from the characters, such as the Russian Anna Netrebko as Violetta
ValГ©ry, and Mexican Rolando VillazГ
іn as Alfredo Germont or Thomas Hampton as Girogio,
Alfredo s father. Our paper s current goal is to attempt to assess how the leading performances
collided by the intent of the direction, how well, how credible the singers could perform this, and
how the scenery aided the purpose of the whole.

popular version of the spelling as well. This is yet another symbol of how truly different, out of

The Dream Of The Rood
The Dream of the Rood is by an unknown, Anglo Saxon, author. This ancient poem is about Jesus
being crucified through the cross point of view. Although this poem is about Jesus death, it does
not exactly match up with what the Bible has depicted in the Gospels of the New Testament. There
is a culture clash between the Anglo Saxon culture and beliefs and what the Bible thinks of Jesus
during his crucifixion. In this poem the author expresses Christ as strong, heroic, and bold, but the
Bible states that he was humble, passive, and weak. Contrary to what the Bible says, The Dream of
the Rood proclaims that Christ felt no pain, the crossdid. These are only a few examples of the
differences between the Bible s take on this story versus the unknown author. This piece of
literature is so highly regarded, even today, because of the culture clash it displays. The story of the
crucifixion of JesusChrist had only been written down in the Bible. To see this story being
transformed into how a newer culture interpreted the story had never been heard of up until this
point in history. This shows how time and different cultures can change stories and belief systems....

Justifying Evil for Good is Cruel
There are many forms of cruelty. One form that many can relate to is bullying. Whether having

picture because kids may be kids, but a grown adult should be able to distinguish between right and

Also, as a teacher, she had the power to influence the students and teach them that any form of
cruelty is wrong.
Using perhapsing from a first person point of view, Murphy states that trying to justify bad deeds
for good is cruel. Describing an image of Connie and her mother at the 7 Eleven, Murphy is
showing that Connie told a white lie about her father s job: All this changed in mid October when
Connie s father got a job at a candy factory, news Connie announced tentatively one rainy day...
this makes the reader consider if Connie was doing a bad deed by telling a lie for good (382).
Also, Murphy makes one question Connie s mother because even though she was trying to help
Connie, condoning a lie teaches Connie that justifying a bad deed for one s own good is
acceptable Her mother was filling a cardboard box (with candy) (383). Murphy s article makes one
wonder if there is a middle ground for right and wrong, but there is not and trying to justify wrong
for good is cruel.

Variance Analysis

Variance Analysis Variance Analysis is used to promote management action in the earliest stages. It
is the process of examining in detail each variance between actual and budgeted costs to conclude
the reasons as to why the budgeted amount was not met (Ventureline, 2012). There are several
factors that go into a variance report. One is the assumption of the department. The second is the
risk of the assumption. And thirdly the actual expense used to portray the budget. The vice president

Another factor that needs to be considered in the variance report would be the salary that is paid
towards the employees. Given that the employees get paid a certain amount each pay period, it
makes it easy for the manager to assume how much of the given budget needs to be used to pay
them. But there are some risks that come along with the assumptions such as: annual reviews,
and hiring more employees to help the department. The manager will either exceed the budget
amount for the month or go under the budget depending on the situation. When preparing a
variance report to the vice president, the manager would have to incorporate the reasons as to
why the budget is either under or over the budget for the month. If the manager has several
employees that reach their annual reviews for that month, they also review an annual incentive
as well. Depending on the company the increase could be between 2% all the way up to 10%
raise for the current employees. The manager would have to include the reasons as to why the
variance amount was high on that month. And if the manager needs a new hire for the
department, they would have to get approval from the vice president in order to see if it is in the
budget, once they have approved, the manager is able to hire a new employee, and make sure that
the new hire gets paid according to what the budget allows them to pay

The book is written from the point of view of Pi and his experiences as a castaway for 227 days.
Pi is stuck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean as the ship he was traveling on, the Tsimtsum, has

Wicca Invocation
The word invoke, as defined by Merriam Webster, means to petition for help, to call forth or
summon, or to solicit through an earnest request. Its first use occurred in the 15th century. The
word invoke is from Middle English envoken from the Middle French very invoquer. This
originated with the Latin verb invocare, which is composed of the root vocare meaning to call ,
and can be found in such words as voice and vocation. This is the same as that found in the word
envoke. The Latin word invocare means to call upon, or implore. When used as part of the noun
invocation, the word means to petition (to God or a god) for aid or comfort , such as a prayer,
but can also mean a summoning of evil spirits . I believe all of these definitions are applicable to
the use of the word in Wicca. On its most basic level, invoking is calling something within
yourself. When this is done, it is also a way of petitioning a deity for assistance. And while it is
possible to summon evil spirits, it is the summoning of benign spirits, elements, entities and deities
that form the basis for invoking within the Wiccan faith. It is calling them within yourself to work
with the combined energy. In the Wiccan practice, the process of invocation is a powerful tool and

others to ensure the proper steps are implemented in the early stages and safeguard classified
information. At this point, we should understand desperate people in desperate situations mainly
derive espionage cases. Following this, it is essential for all soldiers recognize any form of threats
to our nation s national security and report these incidents immediately before they can harm our
country. In addition to Martin s espionage case, we can further understand the importance of
securing classified information because it can seriously destroy relationships between countries. As
a result, Martin deserved the punishment given to him because he knew the consequences of
betraying his country. This case clearly indicates the reasons why we should have good
communications at work and recognize individuals that may have issues that could possibly
become an insider threat. Finally, we must be the change we wish to see among others, because

Identity Development in Great Expectations Essay
Great Expectations tells the ultimate rags to riches story of the Orphan Pip. Dickens takes his
readers through life changing events that ultimately mold the identity of the main character.
Dividing these events into sections will provide the basis for interpreting which events had the
most profound effect on Pip s identity towards the end of the novel. These life changing events
provide the catalyst for the development of Pip s character from childhood, his adolescence,
maturing into a social gentleman, and finally becoming a self aware man of society. The novel
opens with Pip in a church cemetery explaining the origin of his name and contemplating how his
parents would look if they were alive. Early in the novel, Dickens begins... Show more content on

Pip expresses that he ...loved Joe perhaps for no better reason than because the dear fellow let
me love him implying that Pip may have a problem expressing the way he feels about those in
his life (Dickens 41). This lack of expression remains present in Pip s character throughout the
novel, especially with frustration for the way he feels about Estella. Pip earning his expectations
put a strain on the already limited relationship that he had with Joe, once Pip began to realize that
Joe s occupation was meager and unfit for someone with Pip s means. As mentioned before, Pip
possess and inability to fully express his feeling about those around him. When he first encounters
Estella, he knows that is a physical attraction but Estella s cold and indifferent actions toward Pip
leave him longing for someone he cannot create a true connection with. Furthermore, Estella has
the one of the greatest influence on Pip s identity in the novel once he obtains his expectations and
attempts to alter his personality to mimic that of a genteel individual. Pip describes the anguish he
feels about his background as a most miserable thing to feel ashamed of home insinuating that the
only way to win Estella over is to disregard his humble beginnings in Kent. Which leads to his
desires to become a gentleman in London in hopes that he will be better suited for Estella. The next

Research Paper On Mars Exploration Rover
ESS 102 Research Paper
Bo Wang In 2017, scientists discovered a planet hidden beyond Pluto, they named it planet X.
Twenty years has passed. In 2037, NASA decided to launch a robotic mission on planet X. The
goal of the mission is to find the existence of water and detecting the major components of
atmosphere and soil. The ultimate goal is to determine whether planet X can become our second
Earth. The science fiction paper will be in the form of a log in the perspective of the space rover
landed on Planet X. Opportunity was launched in July 2003 for an exploration on Mars. Its mission
was to search for signs of past life on Mars [1]. In particular it was searching for geological clues
about the existence of water on Mars and whether Mars was wet enough to be hospitable to life [2].
Opportunity was lucky that it landed close to a thin out crop of rocks and it was able to find the
evidence of existence of deep salty water flowed over the area from those rocks [2]. Moreover,

Comparing Intersex And Transgender Females Deserve A Place...
Intersex and transgender females deserve a place of belonging in the world of sport. Society s
need to categorize humans makes it difficult for minorities to find a sense of belonging. Humans
are easily given labels by society as gay, straight, black, asian, female, male etc. This system works
for the majority of people, and those who fit in do not see a necessity to change these constructs. As
Judith Butler argues in her essay Undoing Genderwe must remake the definition of human by
deconstructing our preconceived notion of humanity and continuously reassembling it. Butler
eloquently states This means we must learn to live and to embrace the destruction and re
articulation of the human in the name of a more capacious and, finally, less... Show more content on

Physicist Ira Hammerman discovered that in a set of swimming and running races woman s world
records were consistently about 90 percent of the men s world record. Further research proved this
ratio true across diverse sports (Meyer). Many believe that a male to female transgender holds an
unfair competitive advantage against a cisgender female because they were born as males and
therefore retain some of the advantages that come with masculinity. These advantages go beyond
the biological differences in gender which can be equated with hormonal treatment. In her essay
Essentialism and Experience Bell Hooks discusses the effect of male privilege. She argues that
male students, who have spent most of their lives benefitting from male privilege, do not fully
understand the passion of experience in a classroom. Similarly we can explore the benefits of
male privilege in sport which is a drastically male dominant aspect of society. A study at the
University of Southern California uncovered that L.A. based broadcast affiliates devote only 3.2
percent of airtime to women s sport (Good). Iris Young builds on this societal imbalance in her
essay Throwing Like a Girl. Young explains how societal structures have a psychological effect on
female performance. She argues that the fact that women cannot throw as far as men is not simply
due to the biomechanical differences between genders but rather

The Consequences Of Police Discretion In The Police
Police are what is known as street level bureaucrats. This basically means that police are civil
servants working on the street level in direct contact with the general public enforcing the laws of
the local, state and federal law. Police officers work alone or with a partner patrolling the streets
within their beat, therefor they are given a lot of discretion with their title. Discretionary judgment
is necessary for a well functioning policedepartment, but it must be demonstrated properly in
order to have positive outcomes. A police officers ability to use discretion properly can help
build the relationship between law enforcement and the community, but if officers abuse their
discretionary judgment then it can lead to decisional influences / biases (Dempsey pg. 144,
2018). A few solutions have been implemented in order to counteract / remove these
discretionary negatives. Police officers have always possessed the powers to exercise
discretionary judgment ever since they have had the ability to enforce the law. Discretion
within the police force is defined as the officers freedom to make a choice based on the situation
(Young, 2011). However, it has come to light in recent decades that many officers abuse their
powers of discretion, especially with their use of force. This is especially a problem today
because police officers are being monitored every second as departments start incorporating dash
cameras and body cameras. With new video surveillance brings forward the question of whether
or not police are given too much freedom when it comes to discretionary judgment. One of the
biggest reasons police are permitted to demonstrate discretionary judgment is because when it is
applied correctly it builds a positive relationship between law enforcement and the community.
The idea is that if officers are too strict on the law then there would be too many arrest and it
wouldn t always allow the officer to act in a just manner. Discretionary judgment is necessary for
law enforcement to function properly because no two situations are the exact same therefor officers
must apply discretion as needed to the situation they are experiencing. The debate over police
discretion typically comes up after

Ideology And Ideology
1.In this essay I will be discussing the difference between world views and ideologies and I will
also elaborate between the South African motto and the different worldviews. I will then explain
the influence of this motto for myself as a student teacher and citizen of South Africa. Knowledge
production is a highly political and politicized practice (Morrell, 2014).
2.A worldview is a philosophy of life or concept of the world: a Christian world view revolves
around the battle of good and evil (University, 1884). A person s worldview can be affected by
many factors in life it can be affected by their inherited characteristics, by their life situations and
their background experiences, by their values in life, by their attitudes and lastly their habits that
they developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.What is the difference between world view and ideology ? These two terms have a slightly
difference nuances in their meaning and in their connotation. Both these terms have a close
meaning. A way to distinguish between the two meanings is to take note that ideology is more
proactive. The ideology will dictate what your actions or policies are where a worldview is more of
a perspective or an explanation of the way that things are, for example a common worldview is that
all humans life is valuable.
4.Diverse people unite is our South African Motto. We strive to get all the different races to be
valued the same and to have the same opportunities. We strive to get racism out of the way so
that we can live in peace. In other countries they don t have a problem with racism. One
worldview that everyone in South Africa differs about is Christianity. Not all the different cultures
have the same beliefs, some belief in other gods and some believe in Jesus Christ. We as South
African citizens have to accept the fact that not all people have the same views and then move

Roles Of Men And Women
When you think of the roles for men and women in a relationship, what do you think of? Do you
see both men and women working full time jobs or do you only see the man working and the
wife staying at home? Roles are continuing to change in many ways. People can choose to either
get married young or wait until they are older. We get this picture in our head of how our lovelives
are supposed to be from the media. Some people consider their jobs to be just as important as their
relationships.
Expectations of relationship roles of men and women have changed greatly from in the past.
Katherine Davis stated, Wilson and I are fortunate to have a relationship that allows us to be as
committed to our professions as we are to each other (Davis 257). I believe that is the way it is
now in the world, both the men and women focusing on their careers. In the past, men were
expected to go to work and provide for their families. The women were expected to stay home
and take care of the house and the children if they had any. Some people take the same route that
Katherine Davis took. She was not necessarily looking for love and she was focused on her
career. She then met her fiancГ© at her summer internship. Back in the day, women were
expected to find husbands and have kids as soon as possible. They were unable to just sit around
and wait while being occupied by their jobs. Love can be perceived in many different ways. Part
of the reason for that is the way the media has changed our

Family Guy Influence
There are many cartoons and sitcoms on television for both adults and children. They range from
Disney Channel to Fox, but most have one thing in common: the father figure is a bumbling fool.
While enjoyable, many of these shows are damaging to our society and it makes one wonder if
there is a connection between kids and teenagers who watch these shows and not respecting men or
the father figures in their life.
In Family Guy, the idiot is Peter Griffin, in The Simpsons it is Homer Simpson, and in American
Dad it is Stan Smith. Even children s shows such as Good Luck Charlie participate in the new
standard. It is a sad reality but one that most Americans face whether they realize it or not. Whether
the dad on the show is making ignorant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than admitting to the accident and trying to fix it, Peter bribes his daughter Megan into
taking the blame in exchange for buying her a new car. What kind of message does this send to
teens and young adults?
These shows make life seem easy and unimportant. The father figures earn no respect and create
multiple problems for themselves and for their families on a daily basis. The message it sends is
that it is ok to be lazy. It is fine to lie and cheat. There is no problem with not having a respectable
reputation. Adultery, stealing, and violent assault is acceptable. The list goes on and on.
What if there were a show created in which the father has a respectable career, he takes care of
his family, respects his wife, and helps his children with any problem that may arise? What if the
lead character is smart and honest, kind and level headed? Would that have an impact on teens
and how they view their fathers? To take it even further, perhaps it would have an impact on dads
and their self image. Perhaps it would help them to strive to be better and to set a good example for
those around

Essay On Cancun
Cancun: Heaven in the Earth Every person in this world has a place where they can escape of
stress and problems of the real world. Every time that I feel this emotion I want to escape to the
most beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing place that I never seen before. Where I can sit and don t
think anything in my mind in that moment and able of sending my senses into an over freight.
Cancun has the most beautiful and unique beaches with soft sand, the tallest amazing temples, and
the most spectacular relaxing sounds in the cenotes. Many times I heard Cancun had the best
beaches and the sand was unique. The first thing I did when I get to the hotel was to verify if it
was true , so I went running to the beach and in the first moment I set my foots in the sand I
realized it was true . The sand is soft and smooth it s not like the sand here in Texas. When I walk
in the white sand, I could feel the soft, fresh, and at the same time the relaxing experience. I felt
like I was walking on clouds. But also, I feel this sand like quicksand sink my feet when I walk in
them. Sit in the sand and feel it in my hands start playing like a little girl and stat rubbing the
grains of sand through my body as if it were an exfoliator was so relaxing, because I can scape to
the real problems. Every night before bed the first thing I did... Show more content on

Ancient Egyptian Culture and Its Influence on Poetry Essay
Cultured and socially structured, Ancient Egypt was a civilization highly advanced for its time.
The Nile River provided the gift of fresh water allowing the surrounding land to be settled. Its
yearly predictable flooding created fertile soil for farming. This was the perfect environment in
which Egyptian society would prosper. Egypt was equipped with all the amenities of a modern
society including people who married, had children, practiced religion, and even had festivals with
food, beer, music and dancing. All that is known about ancient Egyptis a result of the hieroglyphic
carvings of the Great Pyramid walls and on tombs of dead. Originally from the Book of The Dead,

The first stanza contains a total of nineteen lines and is composed of three common literary
themes, change, culture and religion. The chapter is about the speaker changing into Ptah who
is the lord of life, he conceived the elements of the universe with his heart and brought them into
being with his tongue (Rothenberg 524). Activities such as dancing, music and various religious
festivals or gatherings were common sources of entertainment. Especially crucial to the culture
and society of ancient Egypt was beer, also known as the drink of Egypt. All social classes were
allowed to consume beer, man or woman. Bread was also of cultural importance because it was
one of the main components of the ancient diet and often was presented in the hieroglyphics next
to beer. In lines one and two I eat bread / I drink ale.(1 2) , the reader becomes aware of the
significance of beer and bread within this culture. At the end of the first stanza the reader knows
that a man is speaking of his attendance at the festival of a Great God. The theme of power
begins to prevail; All that is abominable, all that is abominable I will not eat. / Shit is abominable,
I will not eat it. / All that is abominable to my Ka (double personality) will not enter my body.(7 9)
extreme emphasis on the fact that nothing inferior will be consumed by him is presented trough
anaphora. The combination of refusing to eat anything abominable and the statements, I will live on

The Learning ( Or Behaviourist ) Approach
The learning (or behaviourist) approach, at its core, is about how experience affects our behaviour
and how we learn behaviours. This approach postulates that all humans are born as blank slates and
we become shaped by the environment that the person lives in. Behaviourism is concerned with the
observable characteristics of humankind; their behaviour. This approach dismisses any internal
workings because these workings are too subjective and difficult to observe; whereas observable
behaviour can be scientifically and objectively measured, so more concrete theories can be based
off the research undertaken into behaviour. Unsurprisingly, the behaviourist approach works closely
with the experimental branch of psychology, and it also works... Show more content on

The process of this conditioning is associating a neutral stimulus (the bell) with a unconditioned
stimulus (the food) and unconditioned response (the salivation); this means that a stimulus in the
environment produces a behaviour that is innate, or natural no new behaviours have been learned,
yet. The neutral stimulus does not produce a response unless it is paired with the unconditioned
stimulus at the start of conditioning. During conditioning the stimulus that produces no response
(i.e. neutral) is associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point it becomes a conditioned
stimulus. Often, at this stage, the unconditioned stimulus needs to be associated with the
conditioned stimulus on many occasions or trials for learning to take place. However, this is not
always the case; if a neutral stimulus produces sickness or ill health, then the association does not
need to be strengthened over time, because the response it produces is so violent. Now, the
conditioned stimulus has been associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point where it can
produce a conditioned response. This association can then be generalized to other, similar objects;
as was shown in the Little Albert experiment performed by Watson, when the baby s fear of the
white rat had been generalized to other similar furry animals and

Over the last few decades entrepreneurship has become the way many people have chosen to for
their career paths. There are different types of entrepreneurship but there is one in particular that
seem to be evolving in the world of business and it is social entrepreneurship. Social
entrepreneurship has allowed the opportunity for change, considering the ever changing economy
we live in today. Social entrepreneurship focuses on not for profit in order to create social value,

social and commercial goals and as a result, solves some of the social problems. Social
entrepreneurs take part in a procedure that involves consistent development, adoption and learning.
By having these segments, social entrepreneurs are able to work without being confined to assets.
Even though most cases of social entrepreneurship start out rather small, their drives have a huge
impact on the world s issues. Some of those examples include access to clean water, unemployment
rates, chronic sickness and disease and crime. This paper will address the social entrepreneurship
origin, characteristics and the contrast of social entrepreneurship in the United Statesversus other

  • 2. Social Networking Effects On The Socialization Of People What if Facebook was used to its fullest potential? In twelve years the social networking site has surely grown quite a bit from the site intended to allow Harvard students to connect with one another. Today, Facebook is a site filled with advertisements and cheaply made free to play games. Cat pictures and cheery posts that say, Like/share if you love Jesus! riddle the landscape of a service that is supposed to be actually connecting people. Things like this have led people to lose hope in online social networking. To some it seems like it has become a detriment to society. However, the results of what happens when it is used properly should not be overlooked. Online social networking in general promotes actual relationships and benefits our society by providing a medium perfect for connecting with people in a variety of ways. As with everything, there are those who think differently, believing that social networking has adverse effects on the socialization of people. It s still surprising to me, however, this combination of Orwell and WALL E that has humans watching one another through computer screens and socializing through in quasi isolation, remarks an article on Times.com (Davis). Those of that opinion think that indirect communication via online social networking will lead to increased isolationist tendencies. While these seem like valid concerns, if anything, those feared online social networks actually help people in social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Copyright Laws No Longer Relevant in a Digital... Assignment 2 Research Essay Many say the current copyright laws in Australia are not adequate for a digital age. Do you agree with this point of view, and explain the academic research which leads you to this conclusion. Discuss two examples of copyright law which you believe are no longer relevant in a digital age and provide evidence for the changes you would propose, by analysing current media reports and supporting research? The same concept similarly applies to photographs online and in electronic form. The section fails to be clear on whether a person who acquires a copy of a digital photograph, for example by downloading it from [a source on] the internet, [is] the owner of that copy (Smiers, 2005). Another condition that is flawed is where the reproduction of an original photograph is prohibited if the person uses the reproduced copy to make further reproductions. This allows a person to infringe copyright once without payment to copyright, yet not allow them to do so further, when they should not be granted to do so at all. The exception also does not abide by the World Intellectual Property Organisation Copyright Treaty (1996) and its three step test, which outlines that exceptions must only apply in certain special cases..., not conflict with a normal exploitation of a work and do not unreasonably prejudice the legitimate interests of the author . Ultimately by reproducing the material in a different form which copyright holders sell and license, without payment or permission in the first place, the exception permits a person to effectively undertake in piracy. • 5. John Christopher Dep Essay As we have discussed in class, star persona is when an actor or actress have been categorized into specific roles because of previous similar characters they chose to perform as in multiple movies, skits, and or television series. Obviously, as a new comer into the Hollywood acting business coming from Kentucky with his wife, John Christopher Depp had the power to become anyone he wanted to be, and even now he has the power to try to be the person he might not want to be, but need to be for the better sake of his career. Starting off his career with such a strong force really allowed Depp to be launched further into the television and filmindustry. As stated in IMDb, Depp starred in a low budget horror film, The Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), roughly around $1,800,000. And in 1987, Depp went onto the hit television show 21 Jump Street to replace Jeff Yagher. The author does not only give wrong example, China and Philippines, but also mis inference. Corruption in my perspective is the termite that erodes wood and correlation between poverty and corruption. Poverty gives rise to corruption, while corruption worsens poverty. Corruption distorts and changes direction of economic growth. It cuts down and takes an aquarium of economic development and functioning of the country (Johnston, 2009). This is similar to Anup Shah s article that poverty is originated by corruption and a consequence of poverty; it happens all over the world and affects not only individual but also society and growth of the country (Shah, 2011). Hinton, they talk about a boy named Johnny that killed a boy, and the growth of a child named Ponyboy. Johhnny Cade has many names. To live on the rundown section of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the 1960 s you are not expected to be wealthy or to have an emotional attachment to things. That is what the Greaser s were; they jumped, stole, and went to jail. People would never expect them to be educated or that somebody loves them. • 10. The Creation Of Israel By John F. Kennedy Joey Dettore Mrs. Whitney Global Perspectives 3/15/16 The Creation of Israel Israel was not created in order to disappear Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom. These are John F. Kennedy s thoughts and opinions upon the creation of Israel. In the time leading up to the creation of Israel, the Jews had endured much suffering through the terrible acts of the Holocaust. Jews have proven to rise from the despair and the suffering that they had to endure and they ultimately created something stupendous: their own country. There have been many obstacles in the way for the Jews to do this, the biggest being the Arab Palestinians. The Arab Palestinians objected to the Arab Jews forming a nation and if it were not for the help of the United States, Israel would have never been able to overrule the power of the Arab Palestinians and take over the land for themselves. With tremendous support from the United States, the creation of Israel exemplifies the joyous and magnificent accomplishment that not only Arab Jews accomplished, but all Jews. In the time leading up to the creation of Israel, the Jews were motivated to establish their own country in the territory of Palestine with the support of other countries around the world. • 12. Persuasive Essay On The Problems Of A Teacher Many students and teachers in Seneca share the same goal: to make sure grades are high. For grades to stay up, it s important that teachers make sure their students do well in class especially on the tests. This may not seem like a problem, but it is. Students are incapable of learning to the best of their abilities because of teachers tendencies to focus specifically on testing. In my high school career so far, I have experienced many occasions in which this thought process has been apparent. For me, science labs have been the most prevalent for this method of teaching. Science has always been a class that I would receive good grades in, but looking back, it wasn t for the right reasons. My high grades in a class like Biology didn t come from insight on how the cell works and how all the organelles work together like a city; they came from weeks of drilling facts and information into my brain so I could regurgitate them onto a piece of paper that meant more to me only because it was called a test or quiz. I end up getting an A on the test which supposedly shows that my teacher did a good job teaching. It seems like a win win situation for both parties, but in reality, this way of teaching is problematic. The issue with teaching to the test is it impedes students from truly understanding the content. Instead of having students go deep into a topic and fully comprehending it from several angles, some teachers will choose a question and only consider one way to solve it. ... Doing all of these things really opened up my eyes, it made me realize how much our community needs our help, and if we do not put forth the effort nothing is going to change or get better. I am not saying what I did over this semester changed anything, but I now know all the benefits of community service and hope that one day in the near future I can contribute in a way that is beneficial to others of my community. The very first thing I did this semester was helping my local veterans club (Veterans of Foreign Wars) out during their busy bingo nights on Saturday. The only reason I even heard of this was because of my mother s boyfriend, he is a Navy veteran and he asked me if I could help them out one night, and so I did. After the first time, I realized that people take Bingo very serious, people also take their food very seriously. The way I helped them was I would go in the kitchen and basically do everything, I would take their orders, cook them their food, put their food on the tray, and then I had to deliver the food to them because they had trouble walking. That is a lot of work for only two people, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Media s Influence On Media Humans have been a focus for marketers for over 100 years and at the rise of the twentieth century, mass media became widely recognized. In a period of mass availability, people today have entry to more media outlets than ever before. According to media scholar Jean Kilbourne, the average American is exposed to over 3,000 advertisements a day and watches three years worth of television ads over the course of a lifetime (back cover). It is all around us, from the shows we watch on television, the music we listen to on the radio, and to the books and magazines we read each day. Media is the number one source for advertising. Advertising is a manipulative enterprise that uses subtle techniques to persuade consumers into accepting whatever sales pitch [that is] presented to them (Blades, Oates, and Blumberg 3). The vast majority of people do not think that advertising has any influence on them. To their surprise, this is what advertisers want the general population to believe; however, if that were true, why would companies spend over $200 billion a year on advertising (Kilbourne 33)? The media has full control to decide what the public sees and how it is portrayed. Some argue that people benefit from exposure to the media and it s advertising. The media provides us with most of our information about the political process (Buckingham 5). Through news channels such as CNN and Fox News, people are offered an opportunity to learn and develop their own political view and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Causes Of Dropouts In The UAE Should I really drop out? he sadly said I think have no other choice, besides I cannot even afford it In the recent years of UAE, a good amount of students are dropping out of universities. Why are the classes getting empty? Where are the students leaving? Setting the education off the priorities is something normal now in the UAE, but from a logical point of view it should not be normal. It is safe to say that increase rate of dropouts can be added to the list of problems that UAE faces. For instance, the American University of Sharjahonce showed that 30% of students drop out after the freshmen year, and this is just one university out of many in the UAE. There are many different causes behind this problem for sure. The most important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, inflation is striking in all over UAE, and paying for tuition fees is becoming harder than ever. For example, the American University of Sharjah office of registrar stated on the undergraduate catalog of 2010 2011 that the tuition fee per semester is approximately 37,000 dhs whereas the tuition fee per semester of 2016 2017 is about 50,000 dhs. A probable reason why students are dropping out is they come from a poor financial background, where the parents find some difficulties to pay the tuition fees, or they have other expenses to commit to such as rents, debts, and regular consumptions. Furthermore, a second reason could be the lack of earning scholarships or financial aids. In the recent years, universities lean towards to be pickier in the admission of the scholarships; as a result, students are forced to drop out as they rely fully on the scholarships. In my case, I had the same problem and I was not able to maintain the scholarship. I was about to drop out, but thank god I did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Destruction Of Our Democracy The Destruction of Our Democracy All contributions by corporations to any political committee or for any political purpose should be forbidden by law . This quote from Theodore Roosevelt illustrates how corporate money can be disastrous when entangled in elections. Unfortunately, the United States continues to grant large corporations the ability to donate to campaigns, leading to a corrupt campaign system. The Supreme Court decided in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that companies and Super PAC s can donate an unlimited amount of money to endorse candidates. The Citizens United ruling has caused increased political corruption in the United States by giving candidates the money they need to win an election while changing policies that would be beneficial to their corporate donors and not the American people. Pre Citizens United There were several landmark Supreme Court cases and laws before Citizens United that attempted to regulate campaign contributions. Political corruption is easily caused by immense sums of funds going to a candidate. A candidate will be more likely to benefit corporate interests because that will allow them access to more capital later to help in reelection efforts. This becomes problematic because average citizens do not have the capacity to donate large sums of money to a candidate. A large corporation s speech is thus, worth far more than the average citizen. This drastically impacts the marketplace of ideas. John Stuart Mills in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This number is only increasing as the years go by. Around 74% of individuals 65 and up are using the Internet regularly. This is a drastic change from 10 years ago, as it has increased by 54% (Thomson, 2017). How have we come so far, but to feel like we aren t going anywhere? Things need to be done if we want to see any change for the future. There is a significant correlation between technology and communication. By addressing the negative effects that technology has on face to face communication, how technology has changed the way we communicate with others, and why we expect more from technology rather than with another human being, we can better understand the many factors that we must acknowledge in order for us to move forward. Technology is a great distraction everywhere; whether it is at home, in the office, or when travelling. Hundreds of thousands of people suffer injuries from accidents caused by distracted driving involving technology. People become so distracted at work that they forget about more pressing matters (Kazmeyer, n.d.). Technology has become an important part of the way we communicate. The authors of the book Evolutionary Psychology use Robert Trivers definition from 1972 that states, any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases the offspring s chance of surviving at the cost of parent s ability to invest in other offspring . Parents have the dilemma of possibly of not having adequate resources for both children at the same time. So infanticide could be logical in this situation so the parents could invest heavily into one of the twins to help ensure the best opportunity for the child throughout life as opposed to dividing the resources in half. In this poem the author expresses Christ as strong, heroic, and bold, but the Bible states that he was humble, passive, and weak. Contrary to what the Bible says, The Dream of the Rood proclaims that Christ felt no pain, the crossdid. These are only a few examples of the differences between the Bible s take on this story versus the unknown author. This piece of literature is so highly regarded, even today, because of the culture clash it displays. The story of the crucifixion of JesusChrist had only been written down in the Bible. To see this story being transformed into how a newer culture interpreted the story had never been heard of up until this point in history. This shows how time and different cultures can change stories and belief systems.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is composed of stanzas, is written in verse, and has a lot of imagery. Whether having been bullied or been the one bullying others, those cruel memories can forever be imprinted on one s heart. In White Lies, Erin Murphy, expresses that although bullying is wrong, trying to justify bad deeds for good is equally cruel. Using rhetorical and tonal elements, Murphy stirs emotions with pathos, perhapsing with logos, and vivid images with diction. Also, as a teacher, she had the power to influence the students and teach them that any form of cruelty is wrong. Using perhapsing from a first person point of view, Murphy states that trying to justify bad deeds for good is cruel. Describing an image of Connie and her mother at the 7 Eleven, Murphy is showing that Connie told a white lie about her father s job: All this changed in mid October when Connie s father got a job at a candy factory, news Connie announced tentatively one rainy day... this makes the reader consider if Connie was doing a bad deed by telling a lie for good (382). Also, Murphy makes one question Connie s mother because even though she was trying to help Connie, condoning a lie teaches Connie that justifying a bad deed for one s own good is acceptable Her mother was filling a cardboard box (with candy) (383). Murphy s article makes one wonder if there is a middle ground for right and wrong, but there is not and trying to justify wrong for good is cruel. Given that the employees get paid a certain amount each pay period, it makes it easy for the manager to assume how much of the given budget needs to be used to pay them. But there are some risks that come along with the assumptions such as: annual reviews, and hiring more employees to help the department. The manager will either exceed the budget amount for the month or go under the budget depending on the situation. When preparing a variance report to the vice president, the manager would have to incorporate the reasons as to why the budget is either under or over the budget for the month. Depending on the company the increase could be between 2% all the way up to 10% raise for the current employees. The manager would have to include the reasons as to why the variance amount was high on that month. • 39. Wicca Invocation The word invoke, as defined by Merriam Webster, means to petition for help, to call forth or summon, or to solicit through an earnest request. Its first use occurred in the 15th century. The word invoke is from Middle English envoken from the Middle French very invoquer. This originated with the Latin verb invocare, which is composed of the root vocare meaning to call , and can be found in such words as voice and vocation. This is the same as that found in the word envoke. The Latin word invocare means to call upon, or implore. When used as part of the noun invocation, the word means to petition (to God or a god) for aid or comfort , such as a prayer, but can also mean a summoning of evil spirits . I believe all of these definitions are applicable to the use of the word in Wicca. On its most basic level, invoking is calling something within yourself. When this is done, it is also a way of petitioning a deity for assistance. And while it is possible to summon evil spirits, it is the summoning of benign spirits, elements, entities and deities that form the basis for invoking within the Wiccan faith. It is calling them within yourself to work with the combined energy. In the Wiccan practice, the process of invocation is a powerful tool and is a form of voluntary possession. These advantages go beyond the biological differences in gender which can be equated with hormonal treatment. In her essay Essentialism and Experience Bell Hooks discusses the effect of male privilege. • 46. The Consequences Of Police Discretion In The Police Police are what is known as street level bureaucrats. This basically means that police are civil servants working on the street level in direct contact with the general public enforcing the laws of the local, state and federal law. Police officers work alone or with a partner patrolling the streets within their beat, therefor they are given a lot of discretion with their title. Discretionary judgment is necessary for a well functioning policedepartment, but it must be demonstrated properly in order to have positive outcomes. A police officers ability to use discretion properly can help build the relationship between law enforcement and the community, but if officers abuse their discretionary judgment then it can lead to decisional influences / biases (Dempsey pg. 144, 2018). A few solutions have been implemented in order to counteract / remove these discretionary negatives. Police officers have always possessed the powers to exercise discretionary judgment ever since they have had the ability to enforce the law. Discretion within the police force is defined as the officers freedom to make a choice based on the situation (Young, 2011). However, it has come to light in recent decades that many officers abuse their powers of discretion, especially with their use of force. This is especially a problem today because police officers are being monitored every second as departments start incorporating dash cameras and body cameras. With new video surveillance brings forward the question of whether or not police are given too much freedom when it comes to discretionary judgment. One of the biggest reasons police are permitted to demonstrate discretionary judgment is because when it is applied correctly it builds a positive relationship between law enforcement and the community. The idea is that if officers are too strict on the law then there would be too many arrest and it wouldn t always allow the officer to act in a just manner. Discretionary judgment is necessary for law enforcement to function properly because no two situations are the exact same therefor officers must apply discretion as needed to the situation they are experiencing. The process of this conditioning is associating a neutral stimulus (the bell) with a unconditioned stimulus (the food) and unconditioned response (the salivation); this means that a stimulus in the environment produces a behaviour that is innate, or natural no new behaviours have been learned, yet. The neutral stimulus does not produce a response unless it is paired with the unconditioned stimulus at the start of conditioning. During conditioning the stimulus that produces no response (i.e. neutral) is associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point it becomes a conditioned stimulus. Often, at this stage, the unconditioned stimulus needs to be associated with the conditioned stimulus on many occasions or trials for learning to take place. However, this is not always the case; if a neutral stimulus produces sickness or ill health, then the association does not need to be strengthened over time, because the response it produces is so violent. Now, the conditioned stimulus has been associated with the unconditioned stimulus to the point where it can produce a conditioned response. This association can then be generalized to other, similar objects; as was shown in the Little Albert experiment performed by Watson, when the baby s fear of the white rat had been generalized to other similar furry animals and ...
