Similarities Between Islam And Christianity
With regards to the religions of Islam and Christianity, it is imperative to recognize that these two
practices account for some of the largest followings in the history of modern civilization. With that
being said, the links between Islam and Christianity can be astoundingly similar whilst also
offering key characteristics of difference. Although both emphasize certain ideals in differing
contexts, I d argue that it would be reprehensible not to recognize the power the devout followers
of both practices receive upon praying to their Godfrom above.
Islam is a Abrahamic monotheistic religion dating back to 610 CE Saudi Arabia, when the last and
final prophet Muhammad retrieved to a cave to pray and received revelations from God or ( Allah
Arabic word for God) through an angel by the name of Gabriel. These said revelations would
later be known as the beginning of the holy book the Quran . This event took place on Mount
Jabal An Nour, in a cave by the name of Hira. It is the world s second largest religion, and the
fastest growing religion. With over 1 billion followers in 50 countries worldwide (predominantly
countries in the Middle East) 24.1 % of the world s population.
B. Christian tradition is a collection of traditions consisting of practices or beliefs associated with
Christianity. These ecclesiastical traditions have more or less authority based on the nature of the
practices or beliefs and on the group in question. Tradition also includes historic teaching of

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is a disorder that occurs when a mother consumes alcohol while
pregnant. Individuals with FAS may face many problems such as, bad vision, hearing impairments,
memory difficulty, communicative hurdles, and much more (Bergen Yu, 2012). In began in 1981
when expecting mothers were advised not to drink while pregnant (AlcoholPolicies Project, n.d).
However, is 1995 4 times more mothers were consuming alcohol in comparison to a few years
earlier in 1991 (Alcohol Policies Project, n.d). In addition, 52 percent of women ages 18 34
claimed to have been consuming alcohol while pregnant (Alcohol Policies Project, n.d). The reason
for a mothers decision to drink is unknown, it could possibly be that mothers have read reports...

Much research has supported the fact that there is brain structure differences in individuals
diagnosed with FASD (Nunez, el al 2011). Research into the brain of individuals has discovered
abnormalities in the volume and thickness of the frontal lobes (Nunez, el al 2011). This results
in impairments in attention, working memory, and executive functioning that can be traced
back to the frontal lobes (Nunez, el al 2011). In addition researchers have also found smaller
volumes of basal ganglia, which is a group of nuclei associated with motor control and learning
(Nunez, el al 2011). Furthermore, caudate nucleus, which is inside the basal ganglia has also
been found to be smaller in individuals was FASD (Nunez, el al 2011). Caudate nucleus is
associated with mental flexibility and behaviour inhibition (Nunez, el al 2011). The
hypothalamus, which is most responsible for its link with the nervous system was also found to
be smaller in individuals was FASD (Nunez, el al 2011). Moreover, the thalamus was also found
to be of smaller volume and is responsible for relaying motor and sensory signals to the cerebral
cortex (Nunez, el al 2011). Luckily studies have also found that the hippocampus, which required
for the formation of memories was left relatively normal (Nunez, el al 2011). The most affected

Davidson Conformity
In Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason, Michel Foucault, the
French philosopher, writes, What desire can be contrary to nature since it was given to man by
nature itself . In this quote, Foucault examines the absurd nature of human conformity to social
norms. Society has a way of creating unofficial rules and regulations for how the human race
should behave and carry out daily activities. Australian writer and traveler Robyn Davidson
challenged the constraints of conformity when she trekked 1,700 miles across the Australian
desert with only four camels and a dog. As a young, broke, inexperienced, female embarking on an
extraordinarily difficult solo journey, Davidson had all odds for success against her. From... Show

They do not need anything but the land to live off of, which is why they cannot understand the
western culture and their materialistic need. In the words of Davidson, [the Aboriginal people]
are not separate from the land. When they lose it, they lose themselves, their spirit, their

The Influence Of Jazz In The 1920 s
The era of the Roaring Twenties, was a time of great societal change. For nearly the first half of the
twentieth century, from about 1915 to 1955, jazz was the dominant form of popular dance music in
the United States. Jazz originated in major cities throughout the U.S. at the turn of the 20th century,
primarily in the decade of 1920. Many of these changes were greatly influenced by jazzmusic.
During this time, the country was coming out of World War I and the attitude of most people
was dismal. Dance and music clubs became tremendously popular in an effort to improve the
quality of life for many people. Jazz s influence on America could be described as a positive for
cultural diversions. This new genre of sound paved a way for artists to express their feelings, but
also different types of music were created and jazz began to spread around the US.... Show more

Around 1931, the Black bands, led by such greats as Duke Ellington and Fletcher Henderson,
began to develop the Swing style which would not formally appear for another two years which
included one such dance called the jitterbug ( Jazz ). Simply put, they began to change the make
up of the band, and the time of the pieces. Additionally, in the 1930s, artists took a dynamic twist
and made jazz more emotional and spiritual. Artists created jazz music that described hardships
in the south which was called the blues. In the up rise of jazz, Handy became one of the first
people to transcribe and publish sheet music about the blues (Madison). Another genre or style of
music is known as the underground music Bebop . Bebop reflected the anger black musicians
felt over the rewards and benefits reaped by white big bands from swing developed by blacks.
Artists would perform with their backs to the audience. They developed Scat, a type of crazy

The Fallacialist Lothrop Stoddard
Refutation of this stupid, lowbrow notion would be better done in an article in a publication but I
am seeing it promoted more and more and as I am very interested in combating error, particularly
among nationalists, I ll take a crack at briefly addressing it.
The nuts and bolts of this is that we have this half caste Austrian nobleman (his mother was
Japanese) who made some remarks almost a century ago about how the man of the future would be
mixed race. He is also in some sense considered the father of the EU due to his pan European
political organization. From this it is asserted that he planned the genocide of the white race and
that European elites are implementing this plan now almost a century later.
One version of the plan fingers the usual Jewish bogeyman even though Coudenhove Kalergi
wasn t Jewish. More generally we are expected to believe people like Angela Merkel are
consciously following this plan . The problem is there s no evidence they are. ... Show more content

Animas River Environmental Effects
Recently, a contractor working for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
unintentionally released 3 million gallons of toxic mine waste into the Animas River in the
Mountain West state of Colorado. Today, people in the US are debating the efficacy of the EPA
(the right wing is using the spill as anti government propaganda) and the toxic aftermath the spill
will undoubtedly have on local economies, communities and ecosystems. So far, the spill has
contaminated the Animas River, San Juan River, and the Colorado River in Utah. In addition,
several water supply systems have been affected by the spill. While the river system mostly serves
farming communities, the disaster also poses a risk to the drinking water of 17, 000 people living...

Their history is all but erased, their lives destroyed in the pursuit of material wealth (resource
extraction). Superficial statues and hollow tributes now stand where vibrant human communities
once lived for millennia. The US Government, unrecognized by vast portions of Native
Americans, hence illegitimate in their eyes, ruthlessly imposed treaties, laws, cultural mandates
and regulations on a population who never asked for such measures. There was resistance, but it
was stamped out. Thus, the bloody history of European settlement is never far from the minds of
indigenous people living in the US. It would be wise to recall the Sand Creek massacre of 1864,
where a 700 man force of Colorado Territory militia attacked and destroyed a peaceful village of
Cheyenne and Arapaho in southeastern Colorado Territory, killing and mutilating an estimated 70
163 Indians, about two thirds of whom were women and children. Indeed, from Sand Creek to My

Current Challenges Of The Hospital And Physician Group
CURRENT CHALLENGES The above are some of the factors that have mandated the Hospitals to
rethink their alignment strategies with the physicians and various approaches for integration and
are forced to do it an alarmingly faster pace due to ACA. However it is not easy and apparently
there are many challenge areas which needs to be handled first in order to strategically plan a
strong and long term alignment between the hospitaland physiciangroup.
Employing physicians Physicians have always been an independent entity in the hospital structure
and have maintained their autonomy. The current employed physicians according them the main
challenge as an employee is that they are treated like any other non medical staff with ... Show more

High hospital prices Many hospitals could raise the prices with the insurers after mergers as there
will be reduced competition among the providers and also to cover the salary paid for the
physicians. This will further lead to wide variations in admission rates among the hospitals which
in the end leads to high cost of the care which is a burden on the patient. So more community care
physicians incline toward joining such hospitals and refer to the hospitals that employ them or but
the community care leading to increase in overall cost instead of lowering it.
Medicare incentives Hospitals in order to get financial incentives from Medicare according to
which the length of patient stay has to be less but PPO s pay either pays per day basis or fee for
service. In such a case longer stay comes to the benefit of the hospitals. In such cases the hospital
tend to pressurize the physicians to discharge the Medicare patients early or reduce readmissions
at the same time by forcing them to give more aggressive treatment or tend to be careless in order
to prolong the stay which in the end questions the quality of care delivered in both the above cases.
STRATEGIES
Lack of proper knowledge about alignment.
Many leader in healthcare believe the main difference for alignment is lack of knowledge about
ACO S and ACA and consider sharing knowledge and educating the staff about alignment gives a
clear idea to both

The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol
As soon as humans walked the earth, since the beginnings of time, learning was the most vital in
order to survive. This was, and still is today, the most important part of adaptation, problem solving,
and creation of life itself. Without it, our society would never move forward and humanity would
never advance. Undeniably, educationis the start of everything in life itself meaning that it
continuously surrounds every aspect of life. In both Frederick Douglass s essay, Learningto Read
and Jonathan Kozol s essay, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society they both share different
consequential examples dealing with illiteracy. Douglass focuses on his quest to becoming literate
while facing the hardships of battling slavery.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He points out that the uneducated have many restrictions on their lives as well as any form of
power (257). Furthermore, reflecting back to how the inability to read can have consequences
that do not give illiterates a chance to obtain their rights. Another important way of life is, not
only freedom, but identity and self. Kozol emphasizes this concept throughout his essay by
stating that they do not know the true world around them (261). In relaying that, Not knowing
the world that lies concealed behind those words is a more terrifying feeling...Even the hard,
cold stars within the firmament above one s head begin to mock the possibilities for self
location (Kozol 261). The stigmas, fears, and poverty can all be prevented from education. As
soon as children become of age, they begin to read and write. Unfortunately, some teachers may
not let students believe they are worthy of an education (Kozol 262). Nonetheless, spreading the
importance of education is vital for a society. Equally important, Douglass mentions when he
was finally learning to read how it opened a new world for him with freedom. He began to
understand the world from a different point of view, he wrote, Freedom now appeared, to
disappear no more forever. It was heard in every sound, and seen in every thing. It was ever
present to torment me with a sense of my wretched condition (Douglass 129). By being able to read
and understand it,

Multinational Corporation s Influence on Government Policy; Case Study of
PT. Freeport Indonesia
In the last few decades of the 20th century, the rapid transformation of the industrial world took a
new form. The economy is one of the areas experiencing striking changes in these times. What is
certain is the emergence of multinational companies, to some extent, open up opportunities for
economic globalization. The economic growth in the 19th century in many developed countries are
originated from international capital movements that growing rapidly at the time. Mobility of
factors of production that occurred between the states reached its breaking point with the presence
of multinational companies. Perhaps, the most important developments in international economic
relations during the last three decades is the amazing surge of strength and influence of large
multinational corporations. They are the main distributor of various factors of production, capital,
labor and production technology, all in a massive scale, from one country to another.

vehicle accident in front of our house. I used to live in front of the highway so we ve seen many
accidents, especially during the winter, but this time was worse than all of the others. It was
around 1 a.m. when I heard a lot of banging coming from outside. I already knew it was an
accident, so I hurried and put my shoes on then ran outside. My mother and brothers were
already outside looking towards the accident. Once I seen it I ran towards the vehicle and
helped those that I could. There was a man in the back seat that was already in heaven, bless his

paramedics arrived. It was a crazy experience because that what my first time seeing a person die

Southern Right Whales Population Analysis
The southern right whales population has been changing and it went through a dramatically decline
in the late 19th century. Sail whalers hunted right whales throughout the southern oceans north of
50 degrees (Richards 2009). Also, the Soviet Union captured more than 3000 southern right whales
in the 19th century (Tormosov 1997). This was changed after they signed an agreement in 1935 for
the conservation of this species. Populations for this species is hard to estimate because despite
their enormous size, robust population estimates are very difficult to obtain. The results of this
research showed a positive change and an increase in population of this animal. The old population
of the 19th century was around 3000 and the current population... Show more content on

Based on this study, researchers can know what is the rate of fertilization and where mortality
rate is greatest, also they can use this population to create a model population to see what is the
cause and how they can prevent this. These results are important because it showed the evolution
of the population and it helped to see if minimizing the threats is an effective solution and how
these threats are affecting the right whales. Also, it can help assess the recovery of depleted
populations, evaluate conservation threats and also to use whales as indicators of the health of
local ecosystems (Fretwell 2014). Doing this study was complicated because the old population
was not clear, and assumptions had to be made, such as the population size at each class.
Therefore, the sample size can affect the end result. Also, assumptions had be made in the future
population in regards of the population in each age class, but it was based from a journal. The
population will likely keep increasing if the threats that this animal encounter are minimized. This
study showed how the population progresses and what rate but there could also be improvement in
learning why southern right whales prefer coastal warm waters to breed, also it would be
interesting to find more research in how these right whales communicate and transmit

Business Class C Should Not Continue
5.
a) Business class C should not continue to be underwritten using the figures shown. This is because
the class has resulted in a ВЈ25 million loss for the underwriting company.
Total premium expenditure LOSS
ВЈ125,000,000ВЈ150,000,000= ВЈ25,000,000 (shown in brackets on the account sheet as it s a loss)

To make an in depth analysis as to whether class C of business should continue to be written
might require a look at the class over a number of years. The figures shown could be or a year
that is unrepresentative in a wider time spread, as other years before this could show the class C
to be a profitable class to write. Furthermore the value of losses and frequency of losses would
show whether it was one very infrequent event that has cause a large loss that has led to the line
not being profitable in the figures shown. However, if it was lots of smaller claims, this might
show class C business could be written profitably, if the premium was representative of the risk
insurer JEL is exposing itself to. There is simply not enough information available to show the
circumstances that have led to an overall loss of ВЈ25 million for class C business. Moreover, class
C may be offered at a reduced premium rate if an insured purchases class A or B. this therefore
may not be a profitable line to write on its own, but if it brings the profitable business in as clients

Improving Work-Out Using Lomber Machines
Working out using a rowing machine challenges you to give your best effort, gradually building up
resistance while toning muscles. Today s equipment uses the latest in low impact technology,
making exercising an invigorating and safe part of the weekly routine. Different machines have
different features; some use water resistance, and others have magnetic brakes. These rowing
machines have a variety of programs, mimicking outdoor courses that push you past your limits.
Finding the right make and model is essential; your workout style and fitness goals depend on
having the right equipment. Ideally, you want a machine that gives your entire body a full workout,
one that has settings for comfort as well as endurance training. One of the main features that
changes depending on the model and brand of rowing machines is the type of resistance. High end
models use water, others use magnets, some use air, and many use hydraulics. While the principles
behind the workout remain the same, different muscles are put under pressure depending on the
type of resistance.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

To Kill A Mockingbird Social Roles
The criticism brought on by social roles negatively impacts one s views on themselves and their
actions. Maycomb s strict social roles have lowered somes self esteem and has trapped people in
a certain personality or financial stance. These social roles can get in a person s head and
change their views and actions in result. An example of this is shown at the school where Scout
explains to Miss Caroline about the Ewells, He s one of the Ewell s...They come the first day
every year and then they leave... You re supposed to mark em absent the rest of the year (27).
The Ewells have always left the first day of school because that s who they are and who they will

When a child is stereotyped as trash just because of their families wealth, it obviously takes a toll
on them mentally and physically. Dolphus Raymond is often looked at as one who does not
care about social roles and goes against them, but his actions are very much affected by them.
This is his response to when Scout asks him why he drinks cola out of that sack, It helps folks
latch onto a reason, when I come to town, which is seldom, if I weave a little and drink out of
this sack, folks can say Dolphus Raymond s in clutches of whiskey that s why he won t change

It also makes him pretend he is a drunk so he can escape cruelty because he is too afraid to tempt
the strict norms of Maycomb. The criticism these characters have been through can affect their

Archetypes In Star Wars
Star Wars. Harry Potter. The Marvel Cinematic Universe. These seemingly unrelated movie
franchises seem to not have a lot in common other than the fact that they were all uber successful.
In actuality, however, they have a lot more in common than that. These movie franchises at one
point or another have served as the modern media mythological framework for a period of time.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has used a slightly altered Hero s Cycle, archetypes and the
teaching of life lessons to create a modern mythology that fulfills Joseph Campbell s fourth
function of myth and has also become a modern media mythological framework that has already
begun to be copied.
Joseph Campbell first introduced the idea of a Hero s Cycle in his book The Hero with a Thousand
Faces. The Hero s Cycle is a series of several steps that a typical hero story, whether an ancient
Greek story such as Hercules or a modern story told through film like Star Wars, follows. The main

Archetypes along with the hero s cycle have really been the foundation that all modern
mythological media have been built on. If you applied the hero s cycle and the main archetypes
typically used in myth to Star Wars, Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, you would see similar
results as shown by comparing these to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These movies all have a
very similar structure but it is often the lessons that the story focuses in on that set the movies
apart. The Harry Potter books and movies, for example, placed a much larger emphasis on the
problems facing a typical school child, than really any movie series had before. This is what made
it unique. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, in a similar fashion, has focused on teaching several

Skinner’s Use of Metaphor in Explaining the Behaviorism...
Skinner s Use of Metaphor in Explaining the Behaviorism of Walden Two B. F. Skinner
revolutionized the field of psychology through his numerous writings on behaviorism. However, he
began his collegiate life as an English major, and his education in literary techniques and devices
clearly shows through in the manipulation of metaphor in his famous novel Walden Two. Although
Skinner rarely diverges from the incessant description of behavioral engineering through his
mouthpiece in the novel, Frazier, he occasionally digresses from the theory and application of
scientific experimentation to the literary elements that are essential to any novel. One of these
elements, the metaphor of the sheep that appears at the beginning and... Show more content on

The novel, an exposition of behaviorist thought, is almost a Socratic dialogue with Frazier acting as
the famed questioning philosopher and Castle as the ignorant pupil, through which the superiority
of behavioral engineering is eventually proven. Although Castle leaves disenchanted with what he
considers a fascist ideology, Burris eventually succumbs to the appeal of Walden Two and
participates in Frazier s experiment of humanity. Although these crucial ideas might overshadow
the literary merits of Walden Two, Skinner the English major understood the importance of every
minor detail and digression from the main narrative. The sheep, which serve no purpose to the plot
of the story, illustrate Skinner s behaviorist ideas through metaphor. The sheep benefit the
community in a superficial sense by acting as a more efficient lawnmower, requiring only the
work of moving a portable fence. Although once electrocuted, the fence is now just string, and the
only other restraint is a sheepdog, the Bishop, which guards the sheep watchfully. This idea works
on a deeper level to help Skinner relate his scientific ideas to literary ones. As Frazier expounds

Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Horror Genre Essay
Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Horror Genre The horror genre has very set conventions and rules and
horror films have stuck to these but in Buffy the vampire slayer a new set of rules are written. Joss
Whedonhas given the audience another dimension to horror by subverting the genre, in doing this
the effectiveness of the program is increased.
In the first episode Buffy arrives in Sunnydale, straight away she is under the male gaze but
unconventionally the boy gets hurt looking at Buffy. This continues through out the program with
the roles reversed; now the heroine is the hero. This is the bases ... Show more content on

By having a group dynamic this subverts the genre again, as normally it is a lone hero that fights
evil. In many cases it is not just Buffy that fights the vampires but the group work together to plan
and workout the historical facts on many of the characters that they are up against.
In season 2 Buffy and Angel are going out with each other although Buffy is aware he is a
vampires. This relationship shows that the difference between good and evil is very close with
many of the evil characters having human characteristics. The relationship between Buffy and
Angel complicates the genre, as Buffy is as strong as Angel so there is no patriarchy in the
relationship.
The use of dreams in Buffy the vampire slayer to show Buffy s conscious fears are very powerful
as it puts a question in the audiences mind that maybe her dreams will come true. The dreams that
Buffy has are that Drusilla has killed Angel, these don t come true but to Buffy they seem very real
as she saw what could happen.
The vampires in Buffy the vampire slayer would conventionally choose the popular kids or people
who have had sex to kill but the genre is subverted because they choose the social outcasts and
virgins.
Later in season 2 Angel kills Miss Calender who is a member of a gypsy tribe whom Angel had
previously killed a member, resulting in the rest of the tribe being killed. As

Culture Is Defined As The Beliefs, Customs, And Arts
Merriam Webster states culture is defined: as the beliefs, customs, and arts, of a particular
society, group, place, or time. People think of culture as they think of a specific person(s) or a
region but with a little studying of culture they would understand what it really is. The first thing
we have to understand is that culture is taught, or learned over time. Culture is not something
you were born with or receive from your parents. People learn the different cultures through life
experiences, family, and friends. We as humans all require food, water, sleep and education on
important cultural characteristics in order to learn different culture. Everywhere in the world is
different and people come from all different parts of the world because culture is shared. We
learn from others and how people have live throughout the world. The next characteristic would
be symbols, symbols can be anything from money, art, and language. In parts of the world
language to a specific region is important to their culture. Culture is engraved into our brains at a
young age. A country like the United States, foreigners arrive into a new culture and learn to adapt
in many ways the same as we would have to while in another country. The last characteristic would
be dynamic, this means things change over time. People always have changed over time and areas
change as society grows and advancement in technology arises. There is actually remote islands

Introduction to Confidence Intervals (page 248)
In chapter 7 we discussed how to make inferences about a population parameter based on a
sample statistic. While this can be useful, it has severe limitations. In Chapter 8, we expand our
toolbox to include Confidence Intervals. Instead of basing our inference on a single value, a point
estimate, a Confidence Interval provides a range of values, an interval, which at a certain level of
confidence (90%, 95%, etc.) contains the true population parameter. Having a range of values to
make inferences about the population provides much more room for accuracy than making an
inference off of only one value.
When we worked with probabilities based on sample means, we learned that there is ... Show more

Assume that the population standard deviation is fairly stable at 1.8 hours.
Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the population mean weekday sleep time of all adult
residents of this Midwestern town.
95% = 1.96 6.4 +( ) 1.96 x (1.8/sqrt80) = [6.01, 6.79]
Can we conclude with 95% confidence that the mean sleep time of all adult residents in this
Midwestern town is not 7 hours?
Yes, we can conclude with 95% confidence that the mean sleep in this Midwestern town is not 7
hours because the value 7 does not fall within the confidence interval.
Confidence Interval for the Population Mean when Sigma is Unknown
While it is possible that we could know enough about our population to make an assumption about
what the population standard deviation is, it is much more likely that if we do not know the
population mean, then we do not know the population standard deviation. In this case, we can t use
the standard normal distribution, and we use a different distribution, the Student s t distribution.
Instead of пЃі, we use s, the sample standard deviation.
The formula is: xВ±ta/2, df sn .
пЃЎ/2 is still defined the same way, and df is degrees of freedom, calculated as n 1, where n is the
sample size. Degrees of freedom determine the extent of the broadness of the tails of the
distribution; the fewer the degrees of freedom, the broader the tails.

We have Decided Essay
Since nearly the beginning of time, adultery has been thought of as morally wrong. Marriage, on
the other hand, has been thought of as a sacred institution shared by most of the people and
religions of the world. In the Lais written by Marie de France, we are given insight into the inner
workings of five adulterous affairs, six pre marital sexual encounters, and one instance of impure
thoughts. Although Marie de France does not seem to condone adultery, she writes in a manner that
allows the reader to feel possible sympathy with it, depending upon the situation. In fact, she seems
to separate her lays into two categories. The first category consists of extenuating circumstances in
which the reader is made (allowed) to feel empathy and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though we as readers desired that she could meet someone to make her feel alive again,
that fact that God steps in seems to make the situation much more acceptable. The adulterous
affair becomes even more acceptable in our eyes when we realize that their affair is not about
only sex, but that they share a deep and tender love. When the knight first sees the lady, he tells
her, I ve loved you for a long time now...I never loved any woman but you (81 84). The love and
passion that these lovers share bring the woman back to life. Her beauty and zest for life returns
as does her husband s suspicion. When he realizes his wife has taken a lover, he plots to kill the
hawk with spears on the windows. Once the knight is fatally wounded, the woman feels
immediately sad and heartbroken until she realizes she will give birth to a son who Someday he
will kill his and her enemy, be there avenger (102). The woman goes on with her life,
remembering the love she once shared and lives now for her son. The lai continues with the boy
growing up and learning the truth about his father. His mother dies when revealing the truth to
Yonec, her son, and in turn, Yonec cuts off his stepfather s head with his true father s sword. The
poem concludes by saying All they once suffered for their love (158). Although the poem perhaps
does not turn out the way we would like it to, we are left with a sense of happiness in the end. The

Barbie and the Notion of Progression Since the emergence of the Barbie doll in 1959, Barbie has
been a populous choice among young children, and more specifically young girls because of its
monopolization of the toy market. Barbie is a doll that has been outwardly controversial and
debated upon for years and most likely will be for many years to come. The idea of the Barbie
doll is a toy for which young girls model themselves after and aspire to be like when they mature
and grow up. DuCille states, more than simple instruments of pleasure and amusement, toys and
games play crucial roles in helping children determine what is valuable in and around ... Show more

The purchase of long lived assets are daily, quarterly and yearly occurrences for many corporations.
The cost allocation of the asset is shown through the method of depreciation a company uses. The
method a company chooses to incorporate should be one that most effectively matches expenses
with the revenues produced. The method that most select is that of straight line depreciation, which
spreads the depreciable value evenly over the useful life of an asset. (Horngren, Sundem, Elliott,

fact that the depreciation for 2005 using this method is $22,500 versus $50,000 using the double
declining balance method. The higher depreciation decreases the net income, but straight line gives
us a higher net income. Regarding income taxes and how it relates to the depreciation method
management would have to look at this in a different light. Depreciation expense is tax deductible
so management would be better off if it used double declining balance method due to the fact that
the higher the depreciation the lower the income taxes will be. This means the income taxes paid
from cash would be lower. Also, depreciation can have a cash benefit, which reflects in the cash
flows statement. In conclusion, management should consider using this

Essay on Teaching Culturally Diverse Classrooms
America now is a very culturally diverse nation; most of the minority and immigrant population
lives in cities, which indicates that the public school classrooms in urban areas are full of
versatile cultural identities. According to the 2000 Census record, minority and immigrant
populations has grown in increasing numbers, and most of those people live in urban areas and
attend public high schools; also, the level of residential segregation still remains as high as in
1990, which proposes new problems for immigrants and minorities. Monocultural schools are very
rare and the global society is very multicultural; it is very logical to prepare students in schools to
enter this diverse society (Le Roux 48). Teachers are largely responsible... Show more content on

Research has been conducted and the study showed that, Latino students perceived that teachers
actions escalated disciplinary problems and believed that administrators used unfair and
discriminatory practices (90). Educators will never be able to teach students if the students
perceive them as being racist. The degree to which education for cultural diversity is realized
depends on the teacher s attitudes, knowledge, and behavior. They make the mistake of
mismatching their own life experiences and professional training. Le Roux realizes that an
increasing diverse school population encounters a mostly middle class teaching force that is
inadequately prepared to manage the reality of diversity in schools, and that is due to lack of
knowledge of diversity (46). He also states that some teachers make the mistake of generalizing
about particular ethnic groups and cultural groups, as a result of being exposed during training to
information about culture; that is very dangerous in itself. Educators also focus mostly on general
characteristics of a group instead in a single individual, and this is wrong because each individual is
unique and should not be generalized by culture (Le Roux 46). Many cultural groups are entitled to
maintain their traditional attitudes, values, and especially languages; the lack of educational
achievement and improvement is sometimes caused by the problem of a different

The Conservation And Recycling Of Water
Currently California has a terrible water problem, which is causing many people to cease
watering in excess all across the state. The reason California has water problems is that we are
emptying our underground aquifers during a drought that has been going on and many people
are still wasting water on their own personal opportunities. There are many options toward either
ending or surviving the water issue, such as the idea of war to take the water that California
needs to survive. Another is to build a pipeline from a place with extra rainfall annually that
California can syphon off for usage. Another is the option to conserve water across the state and
to reuse water as much as possible to minimize excess water usage. The most viable of these
solutions is the conservation and recycling of water. By conserving and recycling water there is
no waste, only recycled water for cleaning dishes, watering plants, and washing houses and cars.
The only foreseeable problem is that the process cannot be monitored and people are only held by
honesty and a promise to do what they can to conserve water, but the conservation of water seems
to be the most affordable, quickly enacted, and can be done by most families. Also the other
options require a higher amount of financial support to begin and continued maintenance, large
spans of time to orchestrate, and would need a lot of manpower. With the option of water
conservation time, money, and manpower is not as high of a needed factor when

Technology S curve A technology s curve is a theory of innovation, it is based in the lifecycle of a
technology, from the initial phase, where the technology is completely new, rather unused, to the
point where a major breakthrough occurs and the technology is widely used and accepted, the

The second stage of the technology s curve, growth, can be establish after 1999, when mobile
operators collectively agrees to allow users to send SMS to users of other operators (bbc), this

What is marketing? Contrary to what a layperson thinks there is more to marketing than just
running ads and selling products (Perreault, Cannon McCarty, 2014). The American Marketing
Association defines marketing as the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating,
communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients,
partners, and society at large (para. 1). Effective marketinginvolves strategic concepts. Some of
which include how companies use marketing to Place, Promote, and Price their Products. More
importantly, an understanding of the marketing concept, the marketing strategy, and the marketing

analysis, a competitor matrix compares the strengths and weaknesses of a company with those of its
competitors. Examining and evaluating direct and external markets is crucial. Changes in these
environments can create new opportunities as well as identify challenges. In addition to analyzing
direct and external markets, companies should understand and analyze customers in a market.
Before a company can analyze customers in a market, the company must understand and define the
market. There are two basic types of markets: generic markets and product markets. It is important
to define these markets as this can help companies find opportunities. However, if a company
defines its market to broadly the company s marketing effort might be wasted. On the other hand,
too narrow of a definition might limit a company s opportunities. The following represents a
complete product market definition:
What:1. Product type (type of goods and type of service)
To meet what:2. Customer (user) needs
For whom:3. Customer types
Where:4. Geographic area (Perreault et al., 2014).
Product type is the goods/services the customers want. Customer needs are the needs the product
type satisfies for the customer. Customer types are the final consumer or user of the product type.
Lastly, the geographic area is where the company competes or plans to compete. (Perreault et al.,
2014). While using the above product market definition is important, the most effective way to find

Overpopulation And The Problem Of Overpopulation
To begin with, in demography, the term overpopulation refers to a condition wherein the total
population of a particular region far exceeds the carrying capacity of the region. Although the term
by and large refers to the ratio between population and the available area, the ratio between the
population and available resources cannot be ignored. First, the rate at which the population is
growing; the data compiled by the United Nations shows that the world populationgrew by 30
percent between 1990 and 2010.
Second, the distribution of population; with China and India making up approximately 47 percent
of the total world population as of today. Next, there are several causes of overpopulation.
Significant improvement in quality of life and basic health services has resulted in decline in death
rate on one hand, and increase in the birth rate on the other. Continuous migration of people from
underdeveloped areas to developed areas has triggered an unnatural growth in population in
developed areas, thus, putting immense pressure on available resources. Our failure in
understanding the problems caused by overpopulation in urban areas is reflected in unplanned
growth of newer towns and cities. More importantly, a look at the projected population growth is
even more horrendous, which in itself stresses on the fact that we are not learning from our
mistakes. Furthermore, there are many problems caused by overpopulation. A series of interwoven

Is Man Inherently Evil
The Evil Within In Thomas Hobbes book Leviathan he writes that man is selfish, poor, and
brutish. He believes that man is inherently evil and their selfishness leads to war and negative
things (SAT). I agree with Hobbes. Man is inherently evil because people spread hate and
commit atrocities. One reason it is evident that man is inherently evil is because people spread
hatred. Social media is used today on a day to day basis, it is such a huge platform for
communication and entertainment. What it s supposed to be used for though, may not be how
people are using it. People take advantage of the fact that you can be anonymous on social media

shooting was the biggest Massacre in United States history. This shows how evil man can be
because they commit mass murders without a specific reason or outcome simply because man
feels hate. If man was born good, then why would they commit mass murders? It clearly shows
man is evil because man killed innocent people and a good person would never take someone s

Nursing Errors and The Stakes Essay
Every day there is a constant trust adhered to many different people in the profession of Nursing
the decision of what will help patients in terms of medicine, and the confidence to make these
decisions. One false act or one slight misdiagnoses of medication to a patient could be the prime
factor in whether the patient lives or dies. Nurses in hospitals across the country are spread thin,
and thus makes the probability of mistakes higher. If a medicinal dose is off by even one decimal a

If a doctor is busy with many patients, and the nurse on staff has many other patients they are

Theories Of Synergy Theory
One of the theories used to explain why firms engage in M A is the synergy theory. Synergy
theory or hypothesis asserts that the sum value of both individual firms before an M A is lower
than that of the combined firm (Seth, 1990). This increase in value is due to the effect of the
synergy potentials which could only be realized by combining operational and financial resources
of both firms. These synergies present the extra value created by merger. Thus, creating value for
shareholders that at least equates or exceeds the cost of the acquisition should be the primary
objective of any M A. Essentially, synergies should be the sole principle in justifying companies to
engage in M A. In theory, financial synergy of a merger is realized when... Show more content on

No private assumption on the value of a company is given. Oftentimes, this is not the case. The
Harris poll published in 1984 suggest otherwise. According to the Harris poll, only 32 percent of the
surveyed executives thought that the stock market correctly value their companies price, while 60
percent disagreed and felt that their companies are undervalued (Harris poll, 20 February 1984).
This private assumption of fair price could easily find its way onto the M A negotiation table.
Therefore, another theory the valuation theory is also used to analyze how M A could create value
for the shareholders. The valuation theory states that the managers of the acquiring firm may
possess more knowledge of the target firm than what actually is being valued through the price of
stock in the market (Trautwein, 1990). The knowledge, termed asymmetric information by
Ravenscraft and Scherer (1987), could include an undervaluation of the target firm, or an
unbeknownst advantage in the event the two firms are combined. While the later statement is more
or less in alignment with the synergy theory, the mentioned synergy here has not been fully
evaluated by the market. The former suggests that a discrepancy between market value and private
assumption on the price of a target due to undisclosed asymmetric information. Both can put the
price of acquisition at market value but well below its true value. Valuation theory suggested that
once the target firm become acquired part of the acquiring firm and the asymmetric information is
fully disclosed, the shareholders would experience an immediate wealth effect due to revaluation of
the market based on the newly available

Commoners In Julius Caesar
Most of the commoners in Julius Caesar are not named, yet they are large part of the play. With
their support, Antony and Octavius are able to defeat the conspirators and secure Rome. As
demonstrated throughout the play, they are won over with flowery speeches and gifts. Although
their unsteady opinions seem like a sign of weakness, they use their power to benefit
themselves. The commoners are losing power in Rome as it becomes an empire. Crowning a
king seems like a definite way to lose power, but the plebeians don t panic. In order to remain in
charge, they are fickle because whoever is in power must have their support to win. This means the
tribunes must work in the interests of the common people. The plebeians in Julius Casear are a fickle

As unwise as they may seem at first, they are not clueless. They are easily swayed but only
because they know that tribunes must appeal to them. Brutus and Cassius fail to gain their support
and it ends up costing them the battle and their lives. Antony and Octavius expertly use the
commoners to rise to power. At the same time, the plebeians are using them because they have to
rule with the interests of the commoners in mind. The plebeians are a stepping stone for rulers.
They are fine with supporting a ruler as long as they are benefitted in the end.

Representation Of Chang E In Chinese Culture
Chang e is thought very highly of in the eyes of the Chinese. They reflect her ways of peace and
gentleness in their culture. They use her image in their culture often. An example would be how
they name their moon launchings after her. In Chinese minds, the moon is associated with
gentleness and brightness, expressing the beautiful yearnings of the Chinese. (Cultural China) The
people in China see Chang e in the same way they see the moon, peaceful, gentle, and bright. She
is very important and brings joy to the Chinese people. This leads me to believe that the tales in
which Chang e is portrayed as a thief are not an accurate representation of her.
The Moon Goddess has a great deal of cultural significance in China. Cultural China tells

The Statue Of Liberty Essay
There are few objects that can be compared to the significance of the figure known as the Statue
of Liberty. It is one of the greatest works of its time and still stands today as a meaningful entity
of independence to the world. The statue is a great tribute to the concept of global freedom that
had its roots in America. It was created to display the worldwide objective of peace and tranquility.
The fact that another model of this icon stands today in a world capital shows the effect that this
figure has inscribed upon the world. In addition, it represents the ideas that the United States was
built upon and those that the people have lived by to this very day. Its most paramount features in
its role through American history are its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The statue would have died if not for the valiant efforts of Joseph Pulitzer, who through his
magazine, the World, helped raise the much needed funds for the pedestal. Though the French
had graciously granted us the statue free of charge, the Americans still had to pay for the
pedestal upon which the statue was to rest. He stated that the statue was to be a symbol of unity,
freedom, and the ideals that so many of them had fought for to acquire their very own
independence. Pulitzer?s campaign of criticism was just what the statue needed. His actions
helped to raise funds from the rich and the middle class. In a couple of years, the US had enough
money to form the pedestal. Back in France, Bartholdi had problems of his own. The structure of
the statue located in the interior was a very formidable task due to its intricate makeup. To
circumvent this problem, a man named Alexandre Eiffel, well known due to his composition of
the architecture for the Eiffel Tower in Paris, was hired as the structural engineer. He was able to
make the skeletal framework and the iron pylons for the statue and construction continued. The
statue was completed in 1884, surpassing the deadline by a reasonable number of years. The
statue was dismantled and labeled to prevent confusion when it reached New York. It was
separated into almost 300 pieces and put in over 200 crates. The French ship Isere

The Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living In Socrates Apology
Final Paper
In The Apology, Socrates famously asserted that, the unexamined life is not worth living and was
afterward sentence to death. I agree with Socrates declaration because, of some fine points and
details that was stated. Socrates believed in the love of wisdom and that it should be pursued above
all the other claims in philosophy. Socrates decided that he is wise because he consider that he
does not think he know what he does not know. Socrates is known for questioning others and that
it is the duty of the God to continue with what Socrates is good at; questioning people to show
people who believe they are wise that they are really not.
The oracle asserted that Socrates is the wisest man of them all, but Socrates said that he ... Show

The reason I believe that they are going to be a more contented person is because, people who
question themselves have a sense of where they belong in this world and for people who
understand their place in this world also have all the context and fundamentals of their life put
together. Nobody going to have all the answers you are seeking for and no one is free from the
trouble and stress, but those who have a sense in where they belong will live a happier life. For
example, there are two person in this world and only one of them have a map. Obviously the one
with the map will figure out their destination faster than the one without the map. People who
spend their time on this world without examining their life is like have somnambulism. The reason
for living is to have a purpose, to experience, to gain knowledge, and to have a good judgement on
your decision in life. Without these reasons you are just daydreaming and sleepwalking through your

  • 2. Similarities Between Islam And Christianity With regards to the religions of Islam and Christianity, it is imperative to recognize that these two practices account for some of the largest followings in the history of modern civilization. With that being said, the links between Islam and Christianity can be astoundingly similar whilst also offering key characteristics of difference. Although both emphasize certain ideals in differing contexts, I d argue that it would be reprehensible not to recognize the power the devout followers of both practices receive upon praying to their Godfrom above. Islam is a Abrahamic monotheistic religion dating back to 610 CE Saudi Arabia, when the last and final prophet Muhammad retrieved to a cave to pray and received revelations from God or ( Allah Arabic word for God) through an angel by the name of Gabriel. These said revelations would later be known as the beginning of the holy book the Quran . This event took place on Mount Jabal An Nour, in a cave by the name of Hira. It is the world s second largest religion, and the fastest growing religion. With over 1 billion followers in 50 countries worldwide (predominantly countries in the Middle East) 24.1 % of the world s population. B. Christian tradition is a collection of traditions consisting of practices or beliefs associated with Christianity. These ecclesiastical traditions have more or less authority based on the nature of the practices or beliefs and on the group in question. Tradition also includes historic teaching of ... Much research has supported the fact that there is brain structure differences in individuals diagnosed with FASD (Nunez, el al 2011). Research into the brain of individuals has discovered abnormalities in the volume and thickness of the frontal lobes (Nunez, el al 2011). This results in impairments in attention, working memory, and executive functioning that can be traced back to the frontal lobes (Nunez, el al 2011). In addition researchers have also found smaller volumes of basal ganglia, which is a group of nuclei associated with motor control and learning (Nunez, el al 2011). Furthermore, caudate nucleus, which is inside the basal ganglia has also been found to be smaller in individuals was FASD (Nunez, el al 2011). • 5. Davidson Conformity In Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason, Michel Foucault, the French philosopher, writes, What desire can be contrary to nature since it was given to man by nature itself . In this quote, Foucault examines the absurd nature of human conformity to social norms. Society has a way of creating unofficial rules and regulations for how the human race should behave and carry out daily activities. Australian writer and traveler Robyn Davidson challenged the constraints of conformity when she trekked 1,700 miles across the Australian desert with only four camels and a dog. As a young, broke, inexperienced, female embarking on an extraordinarily difficult solo journey, Davidson had all odds for success against her. From... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Influence Of Jazz In The 1920 s The era of the Roaring Twenties, was a time of great societal change. For nearly the first half of the twentieth century, from about 1915 to 1955, jazz was the dominant form of popular dance music in the United States. Jazz originated in major cities throughout the U.S. at the turn of the 20th century, primarily in the decade of 1920. Many of these changes were greatly influenced by jazzmusic. During this time, the country was coming out of World War I and the attitude of most people was dismal. Dance and music clubs became tremendously popular in an effort to improve the quality of life for many people. Jazz s influence on America could be described as a positive for cultural diversions. This new genre of sound paved a way for artists to express their feelings, but also different types of music were created and jazz began to spread around the US.... Artists created jazz music that described hardships in the south which was called the blues. In the up rise of jazz, Handy became one of the first people to transcribe and publish sheet music about the blues (Madison). Another genre or style of music is known as the underground music Bebop . The Fallacialist Lothrop Stoddard Refutation of this stupid, lowbrow notion would be better done in an article in a publication but I am seeing it promoted more and more and as I am very interested in combating error, particularly among nationalists, I ll take a crack at briefly addressing it. The nuts and bolts of this is that we have this half caste Austrian nobleman (his mother was Japanese) who made some remarks almost a century ago about how the man of the future would be mixed race. He is also in some sense considered the father of the EU due to his pan European political organization. From this it is asserted that he planned the genocide of the white race and that European elites are implementing this plan now almost a century later. Animas River Environmental Effects Recently, a contractor working for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unintentionally released 3 million gallons of toxic mine waste into the Animas River in the Mountain West state of Colorado. Today, people in the US are debating the efficacy of the EPA (the right wing is using the spill as anti government propaganda) and the toxic aftermath the spill will undoubtedly have on local economies, communities and ecosystems. So far, the spill has contaminated the Animas River, San Juan River, and the Colorado River in Utah. In addition, several water supply systems have been affected by the spill. • 10. The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol As soon as humans walked the earth, since the beginnings of time, learning was the most vital in order to survive. This was, and still is today, the most important part of adaptation, problem solving, and creation of life itself. Without it, our society would never move forward and humanity would never advance. Undeniably, educationis the start of everything in life itself meaning that it continuously surrounds every aspect of life. In both Frederick Douglass s essay, Learningto Read and Jonathan Kozol s essay, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society they both share different consequential examples dealing with illiteracy. Furthermore, reflecting back to how the inability to read can have consequences that do not give illiterates a chance to obtain their rights. Another important way of life is, not only freedom, but identity and self. Kozol emphasizes this concept throughout his essay by stating that they do not know the true world around them (261). In relaying that, Not knowing the world that lies concealed behind those words is a more terrifying feeling...Even the hard, cold stars within the firmament above one s head begin to mock the possibilities for self location (Kozol 261). The stigmas, fears, and poverty can all be prevented from education. As soon as children become of age, they begin to read and write. Unfortunately, some teachers may not let students believe they are worthy of an education (Kozol 262). Nonetheless, spreading the importance of education is vital for a society. Equally important, Douglass mentions when he was finally learning to read how it opened a new world for him with freedom. He began to understand the world from a different point of view, he wrote, Freedom now appeared, to disappear no more forever. It was heard in every sound, and seen in every thing. It was ever present to torment me with a sense of my wretched condition (Douglass 129). By being able to read and understand it, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Southern Right Whales Population Analysis The southern right whales population has been changing and it went through a dramatically decline in the late 19th century. Sail whalers hunted right whales throughout the southern oceans north of 50 degrees (Richards 2009). Also, the Soviet Union captured more than 3000 southern right whales in the 19th century (Tormosov 1997). This was changed after they signed an agreement in 1935 for the conservation of this species. Populations for this species is hard to estimate because despite their enormous size, robust population estimates are very difficult to obtain. Also, it can help assess the recovery of depleted populations, evaluate conservation threats and also to use whales as indicators of the health of local ecosystems (Fretwell 2014). Therefore, the sample size can affect the end result. Also, assumptions had be made in the future population in regards of the population in each age class, but it was based from a journal. The population will likely keep increasing if the threats that this animal encounter are minimized. • 17. Archetypes In Star Wars Star Wars. Harry Potter. The Marvel Cinematic Universe. These seemingly unrelated movie franchises seem to not have a lot in common other than the fact that they were all uber successful. In actuality, however, they have a lot more in common than that. These movie franchises at one point or another have served as the modern media mythological framework for a period of time. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has used a slightly altered Hero s Cycle, archetypes and the teaching of life lessons to create a modern mythology that fulfills Joseph Campbell s fourth function of myth and has also become a modern media mythological framework that has already begun to be copied. Joseph Campbell first introduced the idea of a Hero s Cycle in his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. If you applied the hero s cycle and the main archetypes typically used in myth to Star Wars, Harry Potter, the Lord of the Rings, you would see similar results as shown by comparing these to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These movies all have a very similar structure but it is often the lessons that the story focuses in on that set the movies apart. The Harry Potter books and movies, for example, placed a much larger emphasis on the problems facing a typical school child, than really any movie series had before. This is what made it unique. Skinner revolutionized the field of psychology through his numerous writings on behaviorism. However, he began his collegiate life as an English major, and his education in literary techniques and devices clearly shows through in the manipulation of metaphor in his famous novel Walden Two. Although Skinner rarely diverges from the incessant description of behavioral engineering through his mouthpiece in the novel, Frazier, he occasionally digresses from the theory and application of scientific experimentation to the literary elements that are essential to any novel. One of these elements, the metaphor of the sheep that appears at the beginning and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel, an exposition of behaviorist thought, is almost a Socratic dialogue with Frazier acting as the famed questioning philosopher and Castle as the ignorant pupil, through which the superiority of behavioral engineering is eventually proven. Although Castle leaves disenchanted with what he considers a fascist ideology, Burris eventually succumbs to the appeal of Walden Two and participates in Frazier s experiment of humanity. Although these crucial ideas might overshadow the literary merits of Walden Two, Skinner the English major understood the importance of every minor detail and digression from the main narrative. The sheep, which serve no purpose to the plot of the story, illustrate Skinner s behaviorist ideas through metaphor. The sheep benefit the community in a superficial sense by acting as a more efficient lawnmower, requiring only the work of moving a portable fence. Although once electrocuted, the fence is now just string, and the only other restraint is a sheepdog, the Bishop, which guards the sheep watchfully. In season 2 Buffy and Angel are going out with each other although Buffy is aware he is a vampires. This relationship shows that the difference between good and evil is very close with many of the evil characters having human characteristics. The relationship between Buffy and Angel complicates the genre, as Buffy is as strong as Angel so there is no patriarchy in the relationship. The use of dreams in Buffy the vampire slayer to show Buffy s conscious fears are very powerful as it puts a question in the audiences mind that maybe her dreams will come true. The dreams that Buffy has are that Drusilla has killed Angel, these don t come true but to Buffy they seem very real as she saw what could happen. The vampires in Buffy the vampire slayer would conventionally choose the popular kids or people who have had sex to kill but the genre is subverted because they choose the social outcasts and virgins. People think of culture as they think of a specific person(s) or a region but with a little studying of culture they would understand what it really is. The first thing we have to understand is that culture is taught, or learned over time. Culture is not something you were born with or receive from your parents. People learn the different cultures through life experiences, family, and friends. We as humans all require food, water, sleep and education on important cultural characteristics in order to learn different culture. While this can be useful, it has severe limitations. In Chapter 8, we expand our toolbox to include Confidence Intervals. Instead of basing our inference on a single value, a point estimate, a Confidence Interval provides a range of values, an interval, which at a certain level of confidence (90%, 95%, etc.) contains the true population parameter. Although Marie de France does not seem to condone adultery, she writes in a manner that allows the reader to feel possible sympathy with it, depending upon the situation. They make the mistake of mismatching their own life experiences and professional training. Le Roux realizes that an increasing diverse school population encounters a mostly middle class teaching force that is inadequately prepared to manage the reality of diversity in schools, and that is due to lack of knowledge of diversity (46). He also states that some teachers make the mistake of generalizing about particular ethnic groups and cultural groups, as a result of being exposed during training to information about culture; that is very dangerous in itself. Educators also focus mostly on general characteristics of a group instead in a single individual, and this is wrong because each individual is unique and should not be generalized by culture (Le Roux 46). The reason California has water problems is that we are emptying our underground aquifers during a drought that has been going on and many people are still wasting water on their own personal opportunities. There are many options toward either ending or surviving the water issue, such as the idea of war to take the water that California needs to survive. Another is to build a pipeline from a place with extra rainfall annually that California can syphon off for usage. Another is the option to conserve water across the state and to reuse water as much as possible to minimize excess water usage. The most viable of these solutions is the conservation and recycling of water. By conserving and recycling water there is no waste, only recycled water for cleaning dishes, watering plants, and washing houses and cars. The only foreseeable problem is that the process cannot be monitored and people are only held by honesty and a promise to do what they can to conserve water, but the conservation of water seems to be the most affordable, quickly enacted, and can be done by most families. Overpopulation And The Problem Of Overpopulation To begin with, in demography, the term overpopulation refers to a condition wherein the total population of a particular region far exceeds the carrying capacity of the region. Although the term by and large refers to the ratio between population and the available area, the ratio between the population and available resources cannot be ignored. First, the rate at which the population is growing; the data compiled by the United Nations shows that the world populationgrew by 30 percent between 1990 and 2010. Second, the distribution of population; with China and India making up approximately 47 percent of the total world population as of today. Next, there are several causes of overpopulation. Significant improvement in quality of life and basic health services has resulted in decline in death rate on one hand, and increase in the birth rate on the other. Continuous migration of people from underdeveloped areas to developed areas has triggered an unnatural growth in population in developed areas, thus, putting immense pressure on available resources. Our failure in understanding the problems caused by overpopulation in urban areas is reflected in unplanned growth of newer towns and cities. Nurse should be confident that they can do their job and not buckle under pressure, nor should they make assumptions and guesses when they are in a tight predicament that requires a high level of focus. Secondly, there is the issue with nurses not following protocol. Procedures are in place for a reason, to insure the safety of the patient. Agyemang writes, ...many errors occur as a result of nurses not following policies and procedures... (British Journal of Nursing, 382.) Some nurses violate procedures such as, ...double checking medicines prepared by co workers, reduction of responsibility (both nurses expecting the other person to have checked it more thoroughly), auto processing (one nurse reciting the medication details or calculations to the second checker, without the second checker actually confirming this before signing) and lack of time. (British Journal of Nursing, 382.) If protocol had been followed, then majority of the common errors would be avoided. Instead, nurses are over stressed and in a sort of routine that inhibits ... • 37. Theories Of Synergy Theory One of the theories used to explain why firms engage in M A is the synergy theory. Synergy theory or hypothesis asserts that the sum value of both individual firms before an M A is lower than that of the combined firm (Seth, 1990). This increase in value is due to the effect of the synergy potentials which could only be realized by combining operational and financial resources of both firms. These synergies present the extra value created by merger. Thus, creating value for shareholders that at least equates or exceeds the cost of the acquisition should be the primary objective of any M A. Essentially, synergies should be the sole principle in justifying companies to engage in M A. In theory, financial synergy of a merger is realized when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No private assumption on the value of a company is given. Oftentimes, this is not the case. The Harris poll published in 1984 suggest otherwise. According to the Harris poll, only 32 percent of the surveyed executives thought that the stock market correctly value their companies price, while 60 percent disagreed and felt that their companies are undervalued (Harris poll, 20 February 1984). This private assumption of fair price could easily find its way onto the M A negotiation table. Therefore, another theory the valuation theory is also used to analyze how M A could create value for the shareholders. The valuation theory states that the managers of the acquiring firm may possess more knowledge of the target firm than what actually is being valued through the price of stock in the market (Trautwein, 1990). The knowledge, termed asymmetric information by Ravenscraft and Scherer (1987), could include an undervaluation of the target firm, or an unbeknownst advantage in the event the two firms are combined. While the later statement is more or less in alignment with the synergy theory, the mentioned synergy here has not been fully evaluated by the market. The former suggests that a discrepancy between market value and private assumption on the price of a target due to undisclosed asymmetric information. Both can put the price of acquisition at market value but well below its true value. Valuation theory suggested that once the target firm become acquired part of the acquiring firm and the asymmetric information is fully disclosed, the shareholders would experience an immediate wealth effect due to revaluation of the market based on the newly available ... • 39. Commoners In Julius Caesar Most of the commoners in Julius Caesar are not named, yet they are large part of the play. With their support, Antony and Octavius are able to defeat the conspirators and secure Rome. As demonstrated throughout the play, they are won over with flowery speeches and gifts. Although their unsteady opinions seem like a sign of weakness, they use their power to benefit themselves. The commoners are losing power in Rome as it becomes an empire. Crowning a king seems like a definite way to lose power, but the plebeians don t panic. In order to remain in charge, they are fickle because whoever is in power must have their support to win. This means the tribunes must work in the interests of the common people. The plebeians in Julius Casear are a fickle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the same time, the plebeians are using them because they have to rule with the interests of the commoners in mind. The plebeians are a stepping stone for rulers. They use her image in their culture often. An example would be how they name their moon launchings after her. In Chinese minds, the moon is associated with gentleness and brightness, expressing the beautiful yearnings of the Chinese. (Cultural China) The people in China see Chang e in the same way they see the moon, peaceful, gentle, and bright. She is very important and brings joy to the Chinese people. It is one of the greatest works of its time and still stands today as a meaningful entity of independence to the world. The statue is a great tribute to the concept of global freedom that had its roots in America. It was created to display the worldwide objective of peace and tranquility. The fact that another model of this icon stands today in a world capital shows the effect that this figure has inscribed upon the world. The statue would have died if not for the valiant efforts of Joseph Pulitzer, who through his magazine, the World, helped raise the much needed funds for the pedestal. Though the French had graciously granted us the statue free of charge, the Americans still had to pay for the pedestal upon which the statue was to rest. He stated that the statue was to be a symbol of unity, freedom, and the ideals that so many of them had fought for to acquire their very own independence. Pulitzer?s campaign of criticism was just what the statue needed. His actions helped to raise funds from the rich and the middle class. In a couple of years, the US had enough money to form the pedestal. Back in France, Bartholdi had problems of his own. The structure of the statue located in the interior was a very formidable task due to its intricate makeup. To circumvent this problem, a man named Alexandre Eiffel, well known due to his composition of the architecture for the Eiffel Tower in Paris, was hired as the structural engineer. He was able to make the skeletal framework and the iron pylons for the statue and construction continued. The statue was completed in 1884, surpassing the deadline by a reasonable number of years. The statue was dismantled and labeled to prevent confusion when it reached New York. It was separated into almost 300 pieces and put in over 200 crates. The French ship Isere ... I agree with Socrates declaration because, of some fine points and details that was stated. Socrates believed in the love of wisdom and that it should be pursued above all the other claims in philosophy. Socrates decided that he is wise because he consider that he does not think he know what he does not know.
