demonstrated throughout the play, they are won over with flowery speeches and gifts. Although
their unsteady opinions seem like a sign of weakness, they use their power to benefit
themselves. The commoners are losing power in Rome as it becomes an empire. Crowning a
king seems like a definite way to lose power, but the plebeians don t panic. In order to remain in
charge, they are fickle because whoever is in power must have their support to win. This means the
