Summer Vacations
A success of a student relies on a the time spent in school. Anaheim high school students need to
have longer hours in school to study for and get all the help they need and to make that happen
there needs to be less summer vacation my argument is that KIPP students are smart and well
educated because they have long hours of schooland study for approximately 2 hours and read and
listen to music for about the same time. Relation of EducationInsanity (8). The scores show how
students who had longer summer schools had a had low test scores and for those students who
had less summer vacations and they had better test scores which is pretty impressive. Studying a
lot and putting a lot of time in something would make it easier for your brain to function faster
because you re constantly thinking. The beginning is hard (9). The beginning is hard but when you
try and you challenge yourself you start to believe in yourself and become a successful person.
Rewarding students is great to show them they are important and they need to treat themselves
from putting in great work, but does it really help encourage and motivates the students?
I believe yes it does motivate the students because they look at it as a goal. And it may push them
to try harder and be successful. The longer hours at school is to become hard working and
understand what you are doing and the studying for long hours is to help you become successful
What that extra time does is allow for a more relaxed

Hands: time changes Sherwood Anderson s story Hands is primarily concerned with innocence and
guilt.
Ochani Lele states A pair of hands can create, inspire, instill dreamsНѕ while those same hands can
destroy, diffuse, and install nightmares. (Lele) Through Anderson s Hands it suggest that something
innocent can be quickly distorted into something grotesque.

Although he still hungered for the presence of the boy, who was, the medium through which he

Myers was a natural teacher, he was loved by the boys of his school.
The townspeople did not understand why Adolf Myers was like that, they thought it was wrong. The
towns people ran Myers out of town. They came to his house and they were going to hang him, but
something in his figure, so small, white and pitiful touched their hearts and they let him escape.
(1942) That is how he ended up in Winesburg. He is

Pennsylvania. [He] did not understand what had happened he felt that the hands must be to

frightened and beset by a ghostly brand of doubts, did not think of himself as, in anyway, a part of
the life of the town where he lived for 20 years.
(1939)
Wing Biddlebaum talked a lot with his hands. The slender expressive fingers, forever active,
forever striving to conceal themselves in his pockets or behind his back, came forth and became
the piston rods of his machinery of expression. (1939) Since
Wing Biddlebaum thought his hands were to blame he always hid them.

Potential target markets for this service would be in an inner city community that has a

The Politics Of Texas State
The Politics of Texas
The state is made up of different sectors all in existence and intertwined each other. The constitution
serves many functions in the operations of the government and the life of the people governed. The
document houses the rules of the land and the conditions governing the way the various sectors of
the economy react and act in a mutual status. The constitution is the key to the viable existence of
the people of Texas providing the fundamental rules and laws for the inception and operations of
legal laws (Brown et al., 2014). Likewise, the constitution outlines the underlying breakdown of the
way the individual powers and limits to the powers in place exist.

Although the different states exist, there exists subsequent and distinct rules and regulations in
each state governing the operations and legal matters. Nevertheless, the separate states have
similarities in sections such as the human rights and the overall appointment of the president with

and the involvement in international trade matters.
The public opinion on the various functions and the current state of Texas in the economic and
political arena depicts the view of the people on issues. From the demand for a more congruent
security system at the border which has a significant effect led to the constant immigration of
foreigners into Texas especially from Mexico (Stansfield et al., 2013). However, despite the
benefits accrued such as cheap labor from the undocumented workers, there have also been
controversies as the people are in constant use of the public utilities in place. Part of which they

considerable role in depicting the current state and operations of the local and state governments

Media In The 1900 s
As each generation comes and goes, the things that define them come and go as well. In the late
1700 s and early 1800 s it was the Roman Catholic church, in the mid 1800 s to the early 1900 s it
was technology and industrialization, then throughout the 1900 s it was war. Today and for the past
ten plus years. Media has defined our generation. All types of media, social, news, mass, etc. is
everywhere we look and it is how we see and perceive the world today. This is especially true
when it comes to the perception of drugs in our society today. When one thinks of the word drug
most of the time their first thought is not a good one. Media has shifted society into thinking that
most drugs are bad and have no good qualities about them and that there are very few good drugs

there are no bad drugs. ...but it is the way that the drug is being used (Hart and Ksir, 2015, 4).
This does seem like a logical argument; however, media makes it seem like there are in fact bad
drugs and that those drugs have no good uses at all. That is just not true, there are many drugs
that the media has and will continue to display as only bad and death like drugs, however, all

Why Sherman Alexie Banned
Sherman Alexie s young adult novel, National Book Award Winner The Absolutely True Diary
of a Part Time Indian, speaks autobiographically of the range of issues that young adolescents
frequently face. He covers the topics of violence, gang warfare, physical and sexual abuse,
mental trauma, depression, absentee parenting, alcoholism, racism and poverty; all issues he
himself faced as he grew up on a neglected indian reservation. His book expresses the real
struggles that an infinite number of real teenagers face, and does so in an extremely relatable way.
So why has it been banned in school systems across the country? Recently, the Waterloo School

teaching a unit on Alexie s novel when it was pulled. As one who has used this book in the

about theme and action in our community, I disagree with the blanket censorship of this book,
he said. Roberts is aware of how much his 13 to 14 year old students can relate to the novel s
depiction of an adolescent struggling against adversity. During the first years of teenhood,
students are at a crucial social learning age. It is necessary for all students to understand the
oncoming struggles of adolescence all students will be face in life in one form or another. There is

Star Wars and Mythology Close connections can be made from Greek Mythology into pop
culture, especially into fictional stories such as Star Wars. Introduced to the world in 1977, Star
Wars was a cultural phenomenon that took the whole world by storm. It broke new ground in
cinematic storytelling, visual effects, and what a director could do with a film, paving the way for
many other great films to come. The world of Star Warsis also rich with history and lore, and a lot
of that can be connected to Greek Mythology. Two main characters in Star Wars are Luke and Leia

In Star Wars, the same happens to Luke Skywalker, though not in exactly the same way. He is
given his father?s lightsaber, the weapon of a Jedi by a former friend of his father?s, Ben. Ben

to have this when you were old enough, but your uncle wouldn t allow it. He feared you might
follow old Obi Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did. Your father s
lightsaber. This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster; an elegant
weapon for a more civilized age. For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the
guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Empire.?
(Star Wars). As Ben is giving Luke the lightsaber, he explains its extraordinary qualities and
purpose, therefore passing its extraordinary meaning and symbolism down to a new generation,
similar to Artemis and Apollo. These weapons used by these characters would go on to aide them
greatly in their journeys, as Luke used his lightsaber as a tool to defeat his enemies,

Dorothea Dix Essay
Dorothea Dix One of the Great Women of the 1800s
Once in a while a truly exceptional person has made a mark on the growth of mankind. Dorothea
Dix was an exceptional woman. She wrote children s books, she was a school teacher, and she
helped reform in prisons. Some of her most notable work was in the field of making mental health
institutions a better place for the patients that lived in them. Dorothea Dix gave a great deal to
humanity and her achievements are still being felt today, especially in the treatment of those with
mental disabilities. Dix started out though with very humble beginnings. Dorothea Dix was born in

Dix remained there for a couple of years; she seemed to become well adjusted so she returned back
to Boston to a new beginning in her life.
When she returned to Boston she asked her grandmother if she could start another school in her
grandmother s dining room. After a bit of opposition, her grandmother agreed. There, she taught
until 1835, but she became sick with tuberculosis and also exhaustion had set in. Because of her
illness she closed the school and then traveled to Europe to recuperate, under the advice of her
friends and family. She again returns to Boston, months later, but this time she found herself with a
very large inheritance that would allow her to love comfortably for the rest of her life.4
She realized that she was not the type to sit back and do nothing, so she accepted an invitation to
teach at a Sunday school at the East Cambridge Jail in East Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1941.
That s when her quest began. She was shocked when she saw that mentally ill patients were being
put into the jails, and even more appalled at the conditions they were put in. This is where Dix
helped humanity in a giant way. She made it public about the ways that those with mental and
physical handicaps were being treated. Dix wrote, Men need knowledge in order to overpower
their passions and master their prejudices. 5
She first appealed to the local courts and though the conditions were mildly improved she was not
satisfied with the outcomes. She traveled

The Battle of Hastings
The Battle of Hastings Why Did William Win?
On the 14th of October 1066, Duke William of Normandy defeated King Harold at the Battle of
Hastings. His win could be summed up by the fact that William was a better leader. Other factors
that contributed to William s victory include: William was better prepared, the English army was
severely weakened as Harold had just fought off an invasion in the North of England, and Harold
made a fatal mistake of prematurely entering the Battle of Hastings.
William was a better leader because although Harold had the upper hand in the battle and they were
losing, William managed to outwit and defeat the English. In the Bayeux Tapestrythere is a scene
depicting that in the days preceding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he was victorious in both of them, his troops were exhausted and did not have
sufficient energy to perform at their best. At the beginning of the battle, he managed get a good
advantage he positioned his troops on top of a hill, making it difficult for William to get to his
army and attack him. However, towards the end of the battle, William set a trap to draw Harold
from his strong position and he fell for it. Once they were on even ground, Harold s exhausted
troops could not counter the attacks from William s well trained and nourished army.
The biggest mistake Harold made was entering the Battle of Hastings too early. Harold lost some
of his best fighters at the Battle of Stamford Bridge earlier that day and the rest of his army were
tired out from their previous battle. When they finally arrived in the South, he was
overconfident that he could win this battle because of his recent victories. Because of his
misjudgement, he decided to rush into battle with exhausted and unprepared troops. Towards the
end of the battle, he fell for the trap that William had set, seeing as he was tired and his troops
couldn t wait to finish them off and get a good rest. If he had given his army only a few days rest
and fed them like William had to his troops, his chances of winning the battle would have been a lot
higher.

Exposure Of Radiation Exposure On Medical Practitioners
Exposure to ionizing radiation is of concern to many medical practitioners. The risks of radiation
exposure are well documented within the scientific literature and include cataract formation, skin
cancer, thyroid disease and leukaemia.1 Medical staff who work in the operating theatre are a
sizable population potentially at risk for these complications.2 With advances in medical technology
in past decades and an ongoing trend towards minimally invasive techniques, there has been a
significant increase in the use of fluoroscopy.3 5 During fluoroscopic procedures staff are exposed
to both direct and scattered radiation. Procedures that require long fluoroscopic screening times,
such as interventional radiology, cardiology and orthopaedic surgery, place the proceduralist at high
risk of radiation exposure. Orthopaedic surgeons must often remain close to the x raybeam during
procedures and cannot use distance to reduce radiation exposure.
In recent years, there is a rising alertness concerning the harmful effects of exposure of long term
low dose irradiation. In 2005 a report by Mastrangelo et al identified orthopaedic surgeons as
having an increased cancer risk.6 In 2010 Chou et al reported that the prevalence of cancer within
female orthopaedic surgeons was 1.9 fold greater than that of women in the general US
population.7,8 Specific orthopaedic procedures such as closed intramedullary nailing of the femur
are responsible for a high level of scattered radiation

The Movie Ava Kept Yelling Essay
Throughout the game, Ava kept yelling LUCA, STOP! and would become very frustrated when
Luca would try to hide with her or cheat. She was very annoyed by everything he did, and
thought he was very immature. At 9 years old, she didn t quite understand that 6 year olds aren t
always willfully disobedient, just not necessarily as cognitively advanced or as capable of
communicating all of their emotions. She judged Luca according to her standards of behavior
for her peers, rather than as a rising first grader. Later, she asks me if she was ever that annoying,

not had to be the seeker. Ava began to pout and say that they had to take turns, and it was Chloe s

The Traditional Family And Social Development Of The...
A snapshot of the classic yet desired white family of the 1950 s: a pale skinned man with a
pressed tie and shiny dress shoes, enjoys the pancakes and eggs his slender and sweet wife had
prepared for him before work. The gentle figure leans to kiss her children who hustle to catch the
school bus, a full lunch box in each hand and new toys for show and tell. However, this depiction
of the traditional american familyhas been greatly modified. In her family history course, Stephanie
Coontz asked her students to illustrate their own concept of a traditional or perfect family.
Unsurprisingly, the predominating result was the stereotypical nuclear family, consisting of only
father, mother, and children. This had once been culturally correct, but beginning in the mid 1900 s,
the ideal American family has changed immensely with social development. Although the
traditional family still exists in several households across the nation, the majority of families are far
from the initial standards.
A monumental change to the traditional American family came in 2015 when same sex marriage
was legalized. This momentous step to ensure the acceptance and rights of ranging sexualities had
not only enhanced the quality of life for same sex couples, but also transformed the iconic
household. Now that gays all across the nation were granted their right to marry, it was no longer
necessarily husband and wife but the classic couple could be wife and wife or husband and
husband . This

3.5.1 Synthesis of geopolymer samples
The procedure was adopted from LГіpez et al. (2014) but with slight modifications. 20 g of rice
husk ash (RHA) was weighed and placed in three different 250 mL Erlenmeyer conical flasks.
Alkaline activating solution of sodium hydroxide was prepared 24 hours prior to mixing with
calcined clays (Ferone et al., 2013). 100 mL of 8.0M NaOH was added in each conical flask and
the mixture stirred using a magnetic stirrer for 15 minutes. 50 g of calcined clays (CC) was
weighed and added to each of the three Erlenmeyer conical flasks labeled GP 1, GP 2 and GP 3
respectively. The mixtures were then transferred to 250 mL plastic bottles and shaken in a ball
mill for 5 hours (LГіpez et al., 2014). The fluid matrix was then poured into ceramic crucibles and
cured in an oven at a temperature of 80 В°C for 12 hours. The temperature conditions was then
adjusted to 200 В°C for another 12 hours to facilitate complete polycondensation (LГіpez et al.,

Ludwig Van Beethoven s Influence On The Romantic Movement
The music of Ludwig van Beethoven served as a pivot between the styles of the classical and
romantic periods. In his early career, Beethoven worked primarily in the classical idiom. However,
in his later work, Beethoven often pushed the classical forms to their furthest extreme. According to
Francis Claudon, Beethoven was not truly a romantic composer because he never overstepped the
boundaries of classical art. At the same time, Claudon claims that Beethoven was a revolutionary
whose innovations paved the way toward the increased expressionism which was characteristic of
romantic music. It is commonly known that Beethoven s personality had a strong influence on the
composers of the romantic period. In this regard, it has been noted that... Show more content on

Mozart and Haydn are two other great musicians that come to mind when you talk about Ludwig
van Beethoven because they were his foundation. Due to his impressive foundation, Beethoven was
then enabled to reach new heights of power and expressiveness through his own imprint. I did some
research and stumbled across an essay called, Beethoven s Influence on the Romantic Movement
and it had some good information about his influence on the Romantic period.
In the essay I read that Beethoven served as a pivot between the styles of the classical and romantic
period. Francis Claudon reported that Beethoven was a revolutionary whose innovations paved the
way toward the increased expressionism which was characteristic of romantic music. It s almost
like he was part of the cause and not just an influence. It is commonly known that Beethoven s
personality had a strong influence on the composers of the romantic period was also written in the
essay. Just to know that his personality had such an influence is applaudable. One of the major
elements of romantic music such as the emphasis on the expression of emotions can be found in
music produced by Ludwig van Beethoven. That single handled speaks about his influence and
contribution to the Romantic style. Beethoven was profound and remarkable, considering the fact
that he went deaf, but still managed

Speech On How To Fix A Crashed Car Analysis
Introduction Today I will be giving a speech that is a mix between a demonstration and an
informal about how to fix a crashed car. I will go through the specific steps needed to get any car
back on the road. Slide 2 The first step in repairing a car is to decide whether or not it is worth it
to fix the panel. The picture on the left shows a small dent in the car which would be the perfect
panel to fix, whereas the picture on the right shows a hood that is crumpled and destroyed. With
enough patience both hoods could be fixed but it would be time and money ahead to get a new
hood for the one on the right. Slide 3 Now that you know you are going to fix the panel, you have
to take the correct steps to get it done. The first step is to clean... Show more content on

There are many kinds of clear coat and they all perform in many different ways. One of the
biggest things you need to look for is whether you want to use a spot panel clear or an overall
clear coat. This is really just based on whether you are doing one panel or the whole car. Slide 24
Once everything is covered in base and your decals are how you want them, it is ready to bury
everything under clear coat. Clear coat is what makes a car look good or bad and needs to be
perfect. It is critical that when spraying clear you take or time and get it to look perfect, without
getting any runs. This is crucial, because if you get a run in clear you have to stop and wait for
to dry, then re paint then whole thing. If it comes out good, then you are finally almost done
with the car. Slide 25 Something that is constantly changing is the style and type of spray guns
there are. A few years back everybody used guns that had the cup on the bottom and ran using a
siphon method. Now today almost everyone uses a gravity feed overhead cup gun. These are
most efficient at using every drop of paint. Every gun is different in cup size, spraying capacity,
and size of the spray head. These all need to be looked at to find the correct gun for what you are

Types, Diagnosis, And Treatment
Candidiasis
Introduction
Candidiasis refers to the fungal infection caused by any Candida which is a form of yeast. There
are more than 20 species of candida yeast that might cause illnesses in people, but the common
Candida species is the Candida albicans (Hospenthal Rinaldi, 2015). However, the yeasts are found
in small amounts in the mucous membrane and skin, and they do not cause infection, but the
overgrowth would lead to infection. Specific drugs and health issues may cause the yeast to
overgrow especially in warm and moist body parts leading dangerous symptoms. The signs and
symptoms of candidiasis depend on the part of the human body that is infected (Contreras Fuentes,
2013). Health centers in many nations have reported that Candida species cause fungal infections
leading to hospitalization of patients. The paper focuses on candidiasis by exploring its causes,
epidemiology, types, diagnosis and treatment as well as prevention measures and risk factors. The
thesis of the paper is that candidiasis is a fatal disease that can lead to defects and even death.
Epidemiology
In the United States, Candida is the third cause of nosocomial bloodstream diseases accounting for
about 8 10 percent of the cases. Moreover, three quarter of females in America experience vaginitis
during their life with 25 percent caused by Candida (Contreras Fuentes, 2013). The invasive
candidiasis is the prominent infection among all fungal diseases since it accounts 70 to 90 percent of

Orwell s Use Of The Phonetic Alphabet In The Military...
The military, as a whole, has a countless number of sayings, slogans and acronyms for every, single
aspect of military life. Consequently, it feels like learning a new language to those newly
indoctrinated members of this culture; being required to learn a new alphabet, the phonetic
alphabet, reinforces this feeling. While the mastery of this languageis slow and arduous, there is a
larger purpose behind it. To protect its service members as well as its assets, the military needs
every part to run smoothly and efficiently. Accordingly, they have crafted a language, and an
alphabet, after George Orwell s heart: one that leaves nothing up to interpretation, one which is
terse, and builds a clear and consistent picture of the point being made. Admittedly, when
someone in the military attempts to spell a word using the phonetic alphabet, it goes against
Orwell s second rule: Never use a long word where a short one will do, (519). Instead of spelling K
I F E R, the spelling of my name becomes, Kilo, India, Foxtrot, Echo, Romeo; obviously, this takes
longer and would not be considered efficient Orwell.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

words to explain what letter they are taking about in these types of situation. The military evades
such a problem by making one, uniform series of words to express every letter and number. This
builds a consistency which allows soldiers to focus on the real problems at hand, instead of trying

Central Bank Of Indonesi Indonesia
Part 2: Indonesia
Transition
Indonesia in the fall of 2014 is in a recessionary phase. The GDP dropped from 6.48 in 2011 to a
5.78 in 2013. In addition to that, unemployment has increased from a 5.31 percent in 2011 to a
6.41 percent in 2013. This recession could be caused in part by the high rate of poverty in
Indonesia. Currently about 24% of Indonesia s population lives under the poverty line. The
severity of this issue is reflected in the widening gap between the rich and the poor in Indonesia.
There are two potential tools that can be used to pull Indonesia out of a recession: monetary policy
is controlled by the bank and fiscal policy is determined by the government.
Central Bank
The Central Bank of Indonesia, known simply as Bank Indonesia, was established in 1999 after the
financial crisis of 1998. It is fully autonomous in formulating and implementing each of its task and
authority as stipulated in the Central Bank Act (No. 23/1999) on Bank Indonesia which was
enacted on May 17, 1999. The Act clarifies the bank s position as an independent state institution
and freedom from interference by the Government or any other external parties.
The structure of the bank is such that as a public entity it has the power to issue policy rules and
regulations which are binding to the public at large. As a civil entity, the Bank Indonesia is able to
represent itself in and Outside the court of law. The Board of the Governors is a organization

Essay On Death Of A Salesman A Slice Of America
Death of a Salesman: A Slice of Americana The concept of what constitutes American is a varied
as the people who make up America. Thinking about the global perspective of the concept, the
concept stratifies even more so. The opinion of those who love this country may say that
American is apple pie, fast cars, Friday night football, working hard, owning your own home, and
living the American Dream. The opinion of those who are not necessarily fans of America may
point out that we are materialistic, militaristic, brash, entitled, and greedy. Considering that Death
of a Salesman was written in 1949 in a less globally minded, post world War II economic boom
and sense of American pride, it would seem that the American feel given the play would pertain
only to its time in history. Given the complete context of all the personalities and situations
portrayed, however, one can see that Death of a Salesman is timeless in its interpretation of the

In Donaldson s piece, America s Love Affair With Cars, which was ironically published by a
Canadian journal, she points out that Americans are raised to love cars from the very
beginnings of life. There are toy cars that not only are shiny and fun but have working parts,

kids in school with the newest, fastest, and nicest cars that get the best chance at a date with a
popular girl or boy. She notes that Clearly, the automobile has been much more than simply a
means of transportation for most Americans. Once man and woman felt the breeze blowing on
their faces as they sped along a road, a passion was created. The car is just about everything today
including a form of art and craftsmanship, a collector s item, a cultural icon. (Donaldson, 2012)

Your communication strategy should ensure that all team members are kept informed of each other

Draft an email, formal letter or other written response: since the involved stakeholders of this
project are from both internal and external consultants and experts, emails, business letters and
correspondences are the best and efficient way to convey and deliver the required business
messages and information among them. There is some special requirement during the
communication process that all the emails and business letters should be copied to all the involved
stakeholders to ensure all the parties receive the important business information and decisions.
Organize a meeting: in case of any business requirements a formal meeting should be arranged

The recurring theme that is raised in Tyler Perry s film Why Did I Get Married? Is Can These
Marriages Survive? The infidelity of two husbands leads to the discussion of the 80/20 Rule. The
rule simply implies that within a marriage, most people only receive eighty percent of what they
want and need from their partners, leading them to go outside of their relationship in an effort to
find what they think they are missing. Usually, it s not until the spouse has stepped out the
relationship that they realize that now only twenty percent of their needs are being met. At this
point, they have left their eighty for their twenty, which is a significant downgrade. Watching a
Tyler Perry movie is a strange and ecstatic experience, Perry s desire for shenanigans, inanity and
heightened emotions always makes for an entertaining evening, but his films are in a strange in
between space: between melodrama and traditional drama, between alternative cinema and
Hollywood style, and between black authenticity and pure elitism. Through it all, what vexes film
scholars especially critics, is how style, content, auteurism and culture clash and miss each other
in Tyler Perry s films. Still Perry is one of a handful of black filmmakers including Antoine

Benjamin had wisdom because he has experienced everything, but just never used it. Napoleon
uses his wisdom to know how to use propaganda to be able to control the other animals. Old Major
was using his wisdomto start a rebellion. Animal Farm, a novel written by George Orwell, uses

They began as a tribe of nomads and hunter gatherers. They were not used to settling and living
in one area for many years, and so it was after a few years that they began to form permanent
settlements. At this time the Aztecs were not even near being a major empire, as their arrival in
the region had absolutely no impact on the other tribes that were already settled there. It took
many hundreds of years for the Aztecs to make a strong hold in Central America. As this process
took place they started to grow as a tribe and made more enemies. Many battles were fought with
their neighboring tribes, and the Aztecs had to flee to the islet located on Lake Texcoco. It was
there, as an island city, that Tenochititlan was first built by the Aztectribe and made their capital
city. Overtime it matured into their largest city as well.[1]
The city of Tenochititlan went through many hardships, and many wars. But, in the end the Aztec
people prevailed and finally began to show their true colors with the makings of a unique
civilization and culture that would dominate the Americas for many years. This showed great
resilience on their part, and proved to people that they would fight for their survival against

Fair Trade And Its Effects On Society
Fair Trade
Who am I? I work around twelve to fourteen hours every single day, I make barely enough money
to survive, I work in some of the most dangerous conditions in the world, and I am exploited
based on the poverty I live in. I am a garment worker in a developing country. While most people
would assume that this describes slaves a long time ago, this is actually a current issue that we
have a much greater impact on than we may realize. When we purchase clothing from stores such
as H M or Forever 21, with every dollar tank top, or a cheap pair of jeans we purchase, we are
encouraging this sort of modern day slavery. The label for Fair Tradewas created in 1988, and over
the years, the certification has changed rapidly and now there are a number of standards
companies have to abide by to achieve the Fair Trade label. Due to this, consumers are now
guaranteed of the morality of the product (Marcovitz page 27). The book Fair Trade describes
what Fair Trade really stands for by saying, Fair Trade displays a radical shift in trade policy by
using morality instead of personal and corporate gain as the motive in the world economy (Fair
Trade page 1). This means that instead of getting wealthy being the main goal for the
entrepreneurs at the top of companies, the goal is to help workers and make the world a more fair
place. They do this by paying a living wage to their employees, giving them contractual rights,
giving them a reasonable amount of hours, and countless other of

Wolsey s Responsibility For His Own Downfall Essay
Wolsey s Responsibility For His Own Downfall Thomas Wolsey can be easily viewed as being
responsible for his own downfall. John Guy believes that Wolsey was brilliant but flawed. His
rise was based on luck, charm, intelligence and opportunism. Wolsey had such high ambitions
and gave Henry the idea he was capable of getting him anything, so when Wolsey failed to get
Henry a divorce, it was seen as the final nail on the coffin to his downfall. His policies are also a
cause to his downfall; Wolsey s foreign policy was a success but also caused problems. On Wolsey

Chancellor. But it can also be viewed, on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

nobility. His powerful office and close friendship with Henry earned him many enemies,
particularly aristocrats who resented his usurpation of their traditional influence. They also
resented his great wealth. Over the years, Wolsey amassed a vast fortune, though he spent
lavishly, but he was also charitable and personally financed many diplomatic missionaries. Most
of the gentlemen who entered the government service was for financial reward; Wolsey was not

Comparing Poems Brave Man And This Living Hand
Interlaced throughout these poems, one theme is shared, and that theme is how longing slowly
turns into death over time. As poets often ask readers to examine more closely the relationship
between seemingly opposite themes. Specifically, poems by Agran, Dunbar, Keats, and Stevens
explore the tension between desire and death. Black Umbrellas is about a new start in life while
Why Fades a Dream is about having a dream and putting it to action. This Living Hand is about
enjoying the time you are alive and not taking life for granted ,however; The Brave Man is about a
man that is personified as a sun and going through fears in his life. Poetry, poetry is a literary work
in which is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and

Progenitor Cell Vascularization
The trachea is an organ particularly prone to infections as it functions to transport atmospheric air,
containing a multitude of airborne bacteria and viruses, to the lungs. When these microorganisms
enter the respiratory system the trachea s goblet cells secrete mucus to trap them and halt their
progression into the lungs. Ciliated epithelium within the lumen along with the cough reflex clears
the secretions from the trachea and excretes them through the mouth. Therefore it is important that
when generating a TET appropriate cell expansion and differentiation occurs. There are several
proposed methods of seeding a scaffold that include direct in vitro implantation, progenitor cell
mobilization and adjacent tissue cellular migration. Progenitor cell mobilization is promoted by...

Vascularization is done either through a shared blood supply from adjacent structure or
angiogenesis within the graft. Angiogenesis was confirmed in all patients by one month. The
patient with postmortem analysis showed the presence of capillary proliferation, whereas in the
other patient bleeding was elicited by bronchoscope contact of the graft within the lumen. These
results show that the grafts will likely not failure due to inadequate vascularization. Despite these
promising results the patients experienced stenosis and fungal infections that complicated their post
operative periods. Stenosis was identified in two patients along the distal anastomosis sites
secondary to scar formation. In both cases the stenosis responded well to serial balloon dilation.
Fungal infections were found in two patients, although one was likely caused by the pre and
postoperative steroid administration. Based on this it is suggested that patients with TET

Pi And The Real World
Abstract Pi has a rich history and numerous applications to go along with it. Pi is used in
mathematics, science and engineering. Pi has been traced back to over 1600 BC in Egypt, and
today it is celebrated world wide. Students from elementary school through college know of pi and
its multiple applications. It has been used in physics, as well as in geometry. Students will even use
it in trigonometry when they are doing sine waves. Students need to see how necessary piis in
mathematics and in the real world. Although it may seem pointless to some students now pi will
help in numerous career fields as well as in more accelerated classes like calculus A B or AP

Pi and algebra both are necessary. Pi does have applications in the real world that some
mathematical topics just don t have. A famous Egyptian piece of papyrus gives us another ancient
estimation for pi. Dated around 1650 BC, the Rhind Papyrus was written by a scribe named
Ahmes. Ahmes wrote, Cut off 1/9 of a diameter and construct a square upon the remainder; this has
the same area as the circle (Blatner, 8). Pi has been found in early world history. There is
reference to it in the Old Testament of the Bible in 1 King 7:23, Also he made a molten sea of
ten cubits from brim to brim, round in compass, and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of
thirty cubits did compass it round about. (Allen, 2). In Babylon, they seemed to be well aware of
the Pythagorean Theorem years before Pythagoras. They had even developed a method of square
root extraction equivalent to Newton s method. They had generally used the approximation ПЂ=3
(Allen, 2). In Rome, the Romans were not mathematicians they were warriors. Even with all of the
mathematics that the Greeks had done at their fingertips computed the areas of circular objects
using the proposition and statement, A wheel of diameter 4 feet has a perimeter of 12.5 feet . With
that statement, the Romans got π≈3 1/8 (Allen, 5). Pi is an irrational number because there is
no derivation of it that does not involve irrational numbers, basically it the ability tonot be
simplified into rational terms; it does

Symbols In The Bell Jar
In The Bell Jar, the title forms the core symbolic element of the novel. Esther s mental health is
dramatically compromised by the metaphorical bell jar, which rots the air around her, preventing
her from living a stable and happy life. She is perishing: feeling swallowed by negativity and
detached from people around her in a physical sense as well as mental. It wouldn t have made one
scrap of difference to me, because wherever I sat on the deck of a ship or at a street cafГ© in Paris
or Bangkok I would be stirring under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air. (152)
Esther drastically spirals into a progressively worse depressive state, which she feels cannot be

As a Bell Jar is generally used to display an object of scientific curiosity, it symbolises that Esther
feels like she is different from other girls, would draw negative attention and be defined as
abnormal due to the lack of knowledge and publicity mental illness received in the 1950s. When
Esther was placed in a private mental institution, Esther sows dissension between herself and the
world. She dislikes visitors, particularly her mother who doesn t understand her condition. Esther is
jovial at the fact she will no longer have visitors, showcasing how the bell jar forces a barrier
between Esther and the ones who love her.
In conclusion, although Plath portrays Esther as the victim of the stringent societal demands, her
perfectionism plays an additional role in her downfall. Esther has insatiable expectations when it
comes to scholarships, winning prizes in contests and her career in journalism, as well as
possessing pride in observing her surroundings. When Esther admits she liked looking on at people
in crucial situations , her detachment from other people is evident: she watches on, engulfed in her
own suffering even as others undergo difficult times. As well as the gender

Being Danny s Best Man
Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. For those of you that don t know me, my name s Tyler,
and I ve had the privilege of being Danny s best man. I hope you ve all enjoyed the day so far,
and I think you ll all agree... at the church today the bride looked absolutely stunning! Firstly a
few thank yous I have been asked to make. Firstly, to all who have helped in the service, and this
lovely party. Whether you have brought food, or helped decorate this place, or just come to
support the happy couple, thank you. Secondly to the bridesmaids, you have done a magnificent
job helping the bride today, and you all look amazing, so a big thanks to you too. Finally Tom
would like me to thank his beautiful new wife for turning up today. I saw him this morning
when he was worrying, and it wasn t a pretty sight. He has asked me to tell you how happy you
have made him by becoming his wife, something that I am sure he will go into in more detail in
his speech, but still, thank you. When Danny asked me to be his best man, part of me was
honored, part of me was terrified, but mostly I was laughing that he s finally admitting what we ve
known all along, that I am, in fact, better than him. Having never been a best man before, I had to
spend several hours surfing the Internet to try and find out exactly what my duties would be. So
apparently the most important thing I had to do was make sure Danny got to the church on time,
looking presentable, clean cut and sober. Some of you may have

Animal Monkey Naughton

Naughten uses the technique of Stereoscopy, the study of binocular vision. At the museum they

three dimensional bringing them to seem lifelike. Naughten s images are a wonderful example of

Ignorance Is Bliss Knowledge, a characteristic all people seek and one that provides more power

well. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the main character Victor Frankenstein learns how
knowledge can lead to dangerous inventions. Victor creates a creature assembled from scavenged
human parts; however, upon seeing how hideous its appearance is, he flees which leaves the
monster shunned by the rest of society. The creature, tortured by solitude, begins to kill Victor s
friends and family after Victor refuses to create a companion for him and the two end up dying

and no one to live for in the world. Near the end of his life, Victor gives Walton some final words
of advice saying, Seek happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition, even if it be only the
apparently innocent one of distinguishing yourself in science and discoveries (162). Victor
realizes his life has been ruined because of his scientific ambition, and he also acknowledges that
the sins of his past will continue to haunt him. In the end, the creature causes Victor s death just as
the creature killed his family and friends; therefore, Victor neglects his health and travels to harsh
environments to catch the monster ending in his own demise. It is knowledge that causes Victor to
gain dangerous ambition, the ambition that causes him to undertake the immoral and laborious
task of creating life. The creature ends up ruining Victor s life, and he has only the knowledge he
pursued to blame for that. Victor used his enormous range of knowledge for this shady invention;

The Literary Canon
I feel that familiarity with the works of the literary canon is only one of many ways that people

where the challenge comes in. Some of the canonized books, such as the Bible, Shakespeare
stories, Sun Tzu; The Art of War, can be very difficult to comprehend especially for people of
younger ages. The whole point of reading is to comprehend and put into perspective whatever you

with the message that it s intended to convey. Then there are others that can leave you pretty

Japanese Internment Camp
Photograph #1 shows a large group of Japanese Americans lining up behind a table, for what
appears to be their registration into a Japanese internment camp. Within the group, you can see
looks of confusion and distress on most of the adult faces, as well as looks of confusion and crying
from the children. Many of the Japanese Americans are carrying few belongings other than the man
to the left with one bag in his hand, and the woman in front of him who has an item in her hands; it
is implied that after registering their names with the United Statesgovernment representatives at the
table, they will be sent to the internment camps with what they have. With the confusion on their
faces as well, it could be assumed that some people did not even know that they could take
belongings with them to the camps. It could also be assumed that many in the line are not sure why
they have to register in these camps, as they have been living normal American lives up until this
point in 1942. The idea for these camps was brought on by propaganda, creating fears amongst not
only regular citizens, but government officials as well ( Japanese American Internment2016). Over

Vision and Blindsight Essay
Vision and Blindsight
Implications Regarding Consciousness
Vision receiving and interpreting light signals from the environment in order to form an image in
one s mind is an incredibly complex process. Somehow signals from photoreceptors located in the
eye are converted into the conscious experience of sight. Of all the aspects of vision, perhaps the
most difficult for us to comprehend scientifically is this notion of consciousness. Somehow the
brain interprets light waves hitting the retina so that we are visually aware of our surroundings.
While the mechanism of signal transduction from the photoreceptor through the visual cortex has
been extensively elucidated, science has difficulty dealing with the phenomena of consciousness ...

Patients tend to correctly identify shape, color, and motion of inputs. In a forced choice
experiment, where the subject is asked to identify certain features of a visual cue, the subject will
perform much better than chance even though they feel as if they are randomly guessing (2).
While head trauma or tumors often induce the psychic blindness of these patients, a model has
been developed in monkeys by removing all or part of the primary visual cortex. These monkeys
are able to respond to visual inputs. They can be trained to touch illuminated bulbs rather than unlit
ones and identify certain colors and patterns in order to obtain food. This phenomenon is believed
to parallel human blindsight because when trained to respond differently according to whether
there is a visual cue or not, these monkeys respond as if there were no cue when a visual input is
presented to the blind field (1). It is therefore believed that these animals are able to respond to and
identify features of a visual cue even though they do not report seeing it.
The phenomenon of blindsight has far reaching implications regarding consciousness, awareness
and the I function. These studies demonstrate that receiving and interpreting visual inputs is
independent of our awareness of that input. Does this imply that there is a separate mechanism of
consciousness which can be disengaged from our senses? Marcel proposes that this loss of visual
consciousness results from the

He was forever frightened and beset by a ghostly brand of doubts, did not think of himself as, in anyway, a part of the life of the town where he lived for 20 years. (1939) Wing Biddlebaum talked a lot with his hands. The slender expressive fingers, forever active, forever striving to conceal themselves in his pockets or behind his back, came forth and became the piston rods of his machinery of expression. • 6. Media In The 1900 s As each generation comes and goes, the things that define them come and go as well. In the late 1700 s and early 1800 s it was the Roman Catholic church, in the mid 1800 s to the early 1900 s it was technology and industrialization, then throughout the 1900 s it was war. Today and for the past ten plus years. Media has defined our generation. All types of media, social, news, mass, etc. is everywhere we look and it is how we see and perceive the world today. This is especially true when it comes to the perception of drugs in our society today. When one thinks of the word drug most of the time their first thought is not a good one. There, she taught until 1835, but she became sick with tuberculosis and also exhaustion had set in. His win could be summed up by the fact that William was a better leader. Other factors that contributed to William s victory include: William was better prepared, the English army was severely weakened as Harold had just fought off an invasion in the North of England, and Harold made a fatal mistake of prematurely entering the Battle of Hastings. • 15. Exposure Of Radiation Exposure On Medical Practitioners Exposure to ionizing radiation is of concern to many medical practitioners. The risks of radiation exposure are well documented within the scientific literature and include cataract formation, skin cancer, thyroid disease and leukaemia.1 Medical staff who work in the operating theatre are a sizable population potentially at risk for these complications.2 With advances in medical technology in past decades and an ongoing trend towards minimally invasive techniques, there has been a significant increase in the use of fluoroscopy.3 5 During fluoroscopic procedures staff are exposed to both direct and scattered radiation. Procedures that require long fluoroscopic screening times, such as interventional radiology, cardiology and orthopaedic surgery, place the proceduralist at high risk of radiation exposure. Orthopaedic surgeons must often remain close to the x raybeam during procedures and cannot use distance to reduce radiation exposure. In recent years, there is a rising alertness concerning the harmful effects of exposure of long term low dose irradiation. In 2005 a report by Mastrangelo et al identified orthopaedic surgeons as having an increased cancer risk.6 In 2010 Chou et al reported that the prevalence of cancer within female orthopaedic surgeons was 1.9 fold greater than that of women in the general US population.7,8 Specific orthopaedic procedures such as closed intramedullary nailing of the femur are responsible for a high level of scattered radiation ... A snapshot of the classic yet desired white family of the 1950 s: a pale skinned man with a pressed tie and shiny dress shoes, enjoys the pancakes and eggs his slender and sweet wife had prepared for him before work. The gentle figure leans to kiss her children who hustle to catch the school bus, a full lunch box in each hand and new toys for show and tell. However, this depiction of the traditional american familyhas been greatly modified. In her family history course, Stephanie Coontz asked her students to illustrate their own concept of a traditional or perfect family. Unsurprisingly, the predominating result was the stereotypical nuclear family, consisting of only father, mother, and children. This had once been culturally correct, but beginning in the mid 1900 s, the ideal American family has changed immensely with social development. Although the traditional family still exists in several households across the nation, the majority of families are far from the initial standards. A monumental change to the traditional American family came in 2015 when same sex marriage was legalized. This momentous step to ensure the acceptance and rights of ranging sexualities had not only enhanced the quality of life for same sex couples, but also transformed the iconic household. Now that gays all across the nation were granted their right to marry, it was no longer necessarily husband and wife but the classic couple could be wife and wife or husband and husband . This ... • 26. Orwell s Use Of The Phonetic Alphabet In The Military... The military, as a whole, has a countless number of sayings, slogans and acronyms for every, single aspect of military life. Consequently, it feels like learning a new language to those newly indoctrinated members of this culture; being required to learn a new alphabet, the phonetic alphabet, reinforces this feeling. While the mastery of this languageis slow and arduous, there is a larger purpose behind it. To protect its service members as well as its assets, the military needs every part to run smoothly and efficiently. Accordingly, they have crafted a language, and an alphabet, after George Orwell s heart: one that leaves nothing up to interpretation, one which is terse, and builds a clear and consistent picture of the point being made. Admittedly, when someone in the military attempts to spell a word using the phonetic alphabet, it goes against Orwell s second rule: Never use a long word where a short one will do, (519). Instead of spelling K I F E R, the spelling of my name becomes, Kilo, India, Foxtrot, Echo, Romeo; obviously, this takes longer and would not be considered efficient Orwell.... To make matters worse, different people use different words to explain what letter they are taking about in these types of situation. The military evades such a problem by making one, uniform series of words to express every letter and number. • 28. Central Bank Of Indonesi Indonesia Part 2: Indonesia Transition Indonesia in the fall of 2014 is in a recessionary phase. The GDP dropped from 6.48 in 2011 to a 5.78 in 2013. In addition to that, unemployment has increased from a 5.31 percent in 2011 to a 6.41 percent in 2013. This recession could be caused in part by the high rate of poverty in Indonesia. Currently about 24% of Indonesia s population lives under the poverty line. The severity of this issue is reflected in the widening gap between the rich and the poor in Indonesia. There are two potential tools that can be used to pull Indonesia out of a recession: monetary policy is controlled by the bank and fiscal policy is determined by the government. Central Bank The Central Bank of Indonesia, known simply as Bank Indonesia, was established in 1999 after the financial crisis of 1998. It is fully autonomous in formulating and implementing each of its task and authority as stipulated in the Central Bank Act (No. 23/1999) on Bank Indonesia which was enacted on May 17, 1999. The Act clarifies the bank s position as an independent state institution and freedom from interference by the Government or any other external parties. The structure of the bank is such that as a public entity it has the power to issue policy rules and regulations which are binding to the public at large. As a civil entity, the Bank Indonesia is able to represent itself in and Outside the court of law. The Board of the Governors is a organization responsible for formulating and ... Thinking about the global perspective of the concept, the concept stratifies even more so. The opinion of those who are not necessarily fans of America may point out that we are materialistic, militaristic, brash, entitled, and greedy. Considering that Death of a Salesman was written in 1949 in a less globally minded, post world War II economic boom and sense of American pride, it would seem that the American feel given the play would pertain only to its time in history. The rule simply implies that within a marriage, most people only receive eighty percent of what they want and need from their partners, leading them to go outside of their relationship in an effort to find what they think they are missing. Usually, it s not until the spouse has stepped out the relationship that they realize that now only twenty percent of their needs are being met. Ahmes wrote, Cut off 1/9 of a diameter and construct a square upon the remainder; this has the same area as the circle (Blatner, 8). Pi has been found in early world history. • 47. Symbols In The Bell Jar In The Bell Jar, the title forms the core symbolic element of the novel. Esther s mental health is dramatically compromised by the metaphorical bell jar, which rots the air around her, preventing her from living a stable and happy life. She is perishing: feeling swallowed by negativity and detached from people around her in a physical sense as well as mental. It wouldn t have made one scrap of difference to me, because wherever I sat on the deck of a ship or at a street cafГ© in Paris or Bangkok I would be stirring under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air. (152) Esther drastically spirals into a progressively worse depressive state, which she feels cannot be solved, forcing her to turn to suicidal thoughts as her barricade.... As a Bell Jar is generally used to display an object of scientific curiosity, it symbolises that Esther feels like she is different from other girls, would draw negative attention and be defined as abnormal due to the lack of knowledge and publicity mental illness received in the 1950s. When Esther was placed in a private mental institution, Esther sows dissension between herself and the world. She dislikes visitors, particularly her mother who doesn t understand her condition. Esther is jovial at the fact she will no longer have visitors, showcasing how the bell jar forces a barrier between Esther and the ones who love her. In conclusion, although Plath portrays Esther as the victim of the stringent societal demands, her perfectionism plays an additional role in her downfall. Esther has insatiable expectations when it comes to scholarships, winning prizes in contests and her career in journalism, as well as possessing pride in observing her surroundings. When Esther admits she liked looking on at people in crucial situations , her detachment from other people is evident: she watches on, engulfed in her own suffering even as others undergo difficult times. • 48. Being Danny s Best Man Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen. For those of you that don t know me, my name s Tyler, and I ve had the privilege of being Danny s best man. I hope you ve all enjoyed the day so far, and I think you ll all agree... at the church today the bride looked absolutely stunning! Firstly a few thank yous I have been asked to make. Firstly, to all who have helped in the service, and this lovely party. Whether you have brought food, or helped decorate this place, or just come to support the happy couple, thank you. Secondly to the bridesmaids, you have done a magnificent job helping the bride today, and you all look amazing, so a big thanks to you too. Finally Tom would like me to thank his beautiful new wife for turning up today. I saw him this morning when he was worrying, and it wasn t a pretty sight. He has asked me to tell you how happy you have made him by becoming his wife, something that I am sure he will go into in more detail in his speech, but still, thank you. When Danny asked me to be his best man, part of me was honored, part of me was terrified, but mostly I was laughing that he s finally admitting what we ve known all along, that I am, in fact, better than him. Having never been a best man before, I had to spend several hours surfing the Internet to try and find out exactly what my duties would be. So apparently the most important thing I had to do was make sure Danny got to the church on time, looking presentable, clean cut and sober. Some of you may have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Animal Monkey Naughton As I walked into the first room at the Museum of Photographic Arts, Jim Naughten s Animal Kingdom photographs drew my immediate attention because I am currently taking a lab course in Physical Anthropology where we look at fossils every week. While there were several photos within his exhibit, I will focus on the image Red Faced Spider Monkey (2014) since we are studying spider monkeys in my course this week this image parallels with my current studies. Naughten uses the technique of Stereoscopy, the study of binocular vision. At the museum they provide a stereoscopic viewer for visitor use. While using the viewer, the flat images, then become three dimensional bringing them to seem lifelike. After doing more research on the artist Broda, I learned the reasoning in why she wanted to capture these interactions between herself and her children. Before having children Broda spent five years in fertility treatments before she was able to conceive her son. Frankenstein Ignorance Is Bliss Quotes Ignorance Is Bliss Knowledge, a characteristic all people seek and one that provides more power than any army could provide, can be rewarding and enlightening; however, it can be disastrous as well. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the main character Victor Frankenstein learns how knowledge can lead to dangerous inventions. Victor creates a creature assembled from scavenged human parts; however, upon seeing how hideous its appearance is, he flees which leaves the monster shunned by the rest of society. The creature, tortured by solitude, begins to kill Victor s friends and family after Victor refuses to create a companion for him and the two end up dying lonely. Victor is foolish, as he dedicated half of his life working to create the being, and the second half trying to destroy it. The creature causes Victor s death, although it was not by the creature s own hands. The creature drives him to desperation, and it is the creature s fault that he has nothing and no one to live for in the world. Near the end of his life, Victor gives Walton some final words of advice saying, Seek happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition, even if it be only the apparently innocent one of distinguishing yourself in science and discoveries (162). Victor realizes his life has been ruined because of his scientific ambition, and he also acknowledges that the sins of his past will continue to haunt him. In the end, the creature causes Victor s death just as the creature killed his family and friends; therefore, Victor neglects his health and travels to harsh environments to catch the monster ending in his own demise. It is knowledge that causes Victor to gain dangerous ambition, the ambition that causes him to undertake the immoral and laborious task of creating life. The creature ends up ruining Victor s life, and he has only the knowledge he pursued to blame for that. Victor used his enormous range of knowledge for this shady invention; however, he could have used it to benefit mankind. Reading is easy, understanding what you read is where the challenge comes in. Some of the canonized books, such as the Bible, Shakespeare stories, Sun Tzu; The Art of War, can be very difficult to comprehend especially for people of younger ages. The whole point of reading is to comprehend and put into perspective whatever you read. There are some books, poetry and other types of reading material that are straight forward with the message that it s intended to convey. Then there are others that can leave you pretty perplexed as to the meaning behind the passage. Take, for example the Bible: several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within the group, you can see looks of confusion and distress on most of the adult faces, as well as looks of confusion and crying from the children. Many of the Japanese Americans are carrying few belongings other than the man to the left with one bag in his hand, and the woman in front of him who has an item in her hands; it is implied that after registering their names with the United Statesgovernment representatives at the table, they will be sent to the internment camps with what they have. With the confusion on their faces as well, it could be assumed that some people did not even know that they could take belongings with them to the camps. It could also be assumed that many in the line are not sure why they have to register in these camps, as they have been living normal American lives up until this point in 1942. The idea for these camps was brought on by propaganda, creating fears amongst not only regular citizens, but government officials as well ( Japanese American Internment2016). • 56. Vision and Blindsight Essay Vision and Blindsight Implications Regarding Consciousness Vision receiving and interpreting light signals from the environment in order to form an image in one s mind is an incredibly complex process. Somehow signals from photoreceptors located in the eye are converted into the conscious experience of sight. Of all the aspects of vision, perhaps the most difficult for us to comprehend scientifically is this notion of consciousness. Somehow the brain interprets light waves hitting the retina so that we are visually aware of our surroundings. While the mechanism of signal transduction from the photoreceptor through the visual cortex has been extensively elucidated, science has difficulty dealing with the phenomena of consciousness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patients tend to correctly identify shape, color, and motion of inputs. In a forced choice experiment, where the subject is asked to identify certain features of a visual cue, the subject will perform much better than chance even though they feel as if they are randomly guessing (2). While head trauma or tumors often induce the psychic blindness of these patients, a model has been developed in monkeys by removing all or part of the primary visual cortex. These monkeys are able to respond to visual inputs. They can be trained to touch illuminated bulbs rather than unlit ones and identify certain colors and patterns in order to obtain food. This phenomenon is believed to parallel human blindsight because when trained to respond differently according to whether there is a visual cue or not, these monkeys respond as if there were no cue when a visual input is presented to the blind field (1). It is therefore believed that these animals are able to respond to and identify features of a visual cue even though they do not report seeing it. The phenomenon of blindsight has far reaching implications regarding consciousness, awareness and the I function. These studies demonstrate that receiving and interpreting visual inputs is independent of our awareness of that input. Does this imply that there is a separate mechanism of consciousness which can be disengaged from our senses? Marcel proposes that this loss of visual consciousness results from the ...
