Symbolism And Metaphors In Poetry
Symbolism and Metaphor in Poetry The meaning of a poem can be expressed
through literary devices such as a metaphor or symbolism. When looking at the
poem My Papa s Waltz , there is symbolism and there are also metaphors being
shown. A metaphor is comparing two unlike things without using like or as and
symbolism is to reinforce, add, and carry more meaning. In My Papa s Waltz, there
are numerous times that symbolism is enforced. For example, the lines: The whiskey
on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy;
But I hung on like death;
Such waltzing was not easy.
We romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf;
My mother s countenance
Could not unfrown itself. (1 8) suggest that the child was living with an abusive,
drunk father and a mother who could not stand up for herself or her child. Some
symbols in the poem are waltzing and whiskey. Waltzing symbolizes the abuse the
father did and whiskey symbolizes the drinking the father did. Those two things
symbolize the meaning of the poem. The meaning of this poem suggests that
alcoholics are mean and aggressive towards others. They are also hard to cooperate
with, which might infer why the mother could not help her son during the traumatic
beatings. Metaphors are also visible in the poem as well and are shown in the lines
You beat time on my head
With a palm caked hard by dirt,
Then waltzed me off to bed
Still clinging to your shirt. (13 16)
When it says you beat time on my head (851), the speaker wasn t

5 Ways to Re Invent Your Online Marketing Before Christmas
Marketing is the core driver for businesses to achieve their goals, definitely, all
businesses aim at increasing profits and eventually expanding their operations. This
demands proper marketing strategies to be initiated particularly when festive seasons
like Christmas are approaching. Christmas like most other festive seasons is
characterized by increased sales, however due to high competition in the globalized
world the conventional marketing strategies are complimented with technologically
advanced online marketing. Online marketing involves use of the social media like
Facebook, and other internet based platforms to reach the target market. During this
competitive era you have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will help you create customer specific profile that tracks transaction history and
tracks potential clients. Your businesswill reach a wide audience within a very limited
time hence ideal to use before Christmas. Marketing automation software creates
transparency and increased communication between the marketing and sales
department in your business entity. This is by funneling all indicators on the quantity
and quality of leads to the sales representatives. This harmonization is important
because it enables you to make informed decisions targeted at your clients and
therefore improve sales.
3.Employ inbound marketing
Ideally, all businesses using the internet as a marketing tool would want to be seen in
their right image. For this to be achieved you must incorporate techniques that
combines quality content, the social media and search engine optimization methods
to attract prospective customers. This is inbound marketing; in this technique,
potential customers find your brands, products and services by reading relevant
quality information provided; they respond to this information through social sites
and results to a public talk. Through the talk a network is formed where there is
sharing of tips, ideas and uses of products or services, this network expands resulting
in many people talking about your business. Indeed inbound marketing is a cheap
way of converting

3.e) C term of the Van Deemter equation is affected by the change of mobile phase
since it is proportional to the linear flow rate (u). C term can be decreased by
decreasing the flow rate of the mobile phase. In turn it can also be increased with
increasing flow rate. When the mobile phase is 70% acetonitrile and 30% water,
the more hydrophobic it is, the faster compounds pass through the column, which
increases the C term. Since the stationary phase is more hydrophobic, compounds
elute quicker because they are polar and therefore less retained. This increases the
C term because flow rate is increased. Viscous stationary phases will also have larger
C terms. However when a less viscous mobile phases is used, this allows the analytes
to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarity that HILIC shares with normal phase HPLC is that the elution order is
the same and it is in the order of increasing hydrophobicity. HILIC also requires a
high amount of nonpolar mobile phase and a polar stationary phase just like
normal phase HPLC. The difference between the two is that HILIC requires some
water in the mobile phase to maintain a water layer on the surface so that
compounds can selectively partition. It employs a semi aqueous mobile phase.
Water miscible organic solvents are used in HILIC whereas water immiscible
solvents are in normal phase HPLC. Stationary phase in HILIC are required to be
polar, and water can act as a stationary phase. The stationary phase is more polar than
the mobile liquid, and these two liquids must be immiscible with each other. By the
process of partitioning between the water molecules in the stationary phase and any
solvent used as the mobile phase, separation of the analytes can occur. The different
solubilities of the components in the mobile phase and different adsorption forces is
what causes the process of partitioning to occur and bring out separation. Separation
occurs when the mobile phase consists of a water miscible organic solvent such as
acetonitrile and to promote hydrophilic interactions between the analyte and the
water stationary phase. 6. Differentiating the Van Deemter equation with respect to

Don’t Discriminate the Breed
How would you react if you became next to or close to a stray dog? Would you
respond by running, yelling, or even kicking or hitting the animal? Would you
respond calmly, call animal control or even walk away? Just because the dog is
mean doesn t make it aggressive. Aggression is such a broad term and it s not all
bad. The four types I am going to address are protective aggression, territorial
aggression, fear motivated aggression, and pain induced aggression. Aggression
that happens when a mother protects a family member whether it is human or
another animal is called protective aggression. Dogs that want to protect/defend
their home or area is territorial aggression. An example is when you dog chases up
and down the fence line. When a dog is scared it may protect itself for their own
safety. That is known as fear motivated aggression. This often occurs most then a
dog is stuck or cornered. Pain induced aggression is when a dog is in pain it can
respond aggressively. When they do that it is to try and help their selves but it
may injury someone else. That is why when you are approaching a wounded
animal you do so with caution. A lot of people say aggression is random but it s
not. Aggression can be triggered many ways. It is also always response to something
in the dog s environment whether it is an action of a human or the appearance
/attitude of another dog. Cesar Millan says any breed can cause trouble. The

Revolutionary War Salutary Neglect Analysis
Every event leads to another. The moment the pilgrims departed from England and
landed at Plymouth, they set the stage for the following events in American history.
In the years to come, the colonists experienced a form of salutary neglect from the
motherland, Britain, and delighted in a new found freedom. Although Britain created
the rules and guidelines for America, they were poorly enforced. After all, America
was 3,000 miles away. America initiated a few revolutionary movements, including
Bacon s Rebellion; however, Britain quickly extinguished them. As an extension of
Britain, America was expected to fight alongside their troops; this plays a crucial role
in the French and Indian War (Seven Years War). Throughout 1754 1763, Americans

After all, wars are expensive. The amount of food and supplies needed for the
soldiers, along with their salary, costs millions, if not more. To regain money, Britain
began charging the colonists more; however, their reasoning extended past the war s
cost. The British leaders, like George Grenville and Charles Townshend, claimed that
the laws needed to be enforced because the colonists were British subjects and needed
to be protected and watched over. However, this mentality of imposing taxes
overstepped the line of control, especially after the extended period of salutary
neglect. The British started to tax the colonists in a way to show their dominance, not
their support or love. After all, who did the Americans need protection from? In the
Seven Years War, Americans proved their strength against the French by winning
battles without Britain s help, and the colonist had been dealing with the Indians
since the beginning. The only explanation is control. Similarly, during the Qin
dynasty in China, the emperor enforced heavy taxes to gain control over the
merchants and landowners; however, the plan eventually fell through. With the same
approach, Americans began to feel annoyed and uneasy with the
Welfare Drug Testing Should Not Be Allowed
With 35.4% of Americans on welfare, and the U.S spending over 131 billion on
welfare annually, not including food stamps. People have been looking for a way
to cut the costs of welfare for many years. And then Welfare drug testing was
proposed. At initial thought it seemed like a grand idea and a great way to cut costs
and to eliminate all the drug users in the system, and because of that welfare drug
testing has been put into action in 13 states. But, welfare drug testing is completely
ineffective. Welfare drug testing should not be allowed because it violates the rights
of the welfare recipients, it is stereotyping and discriminating against people on
welfare, and it is expensive and ineffective . For all these reasons mandatory... Show

This small bit of information should be enough for the government to stop the
because it breaks one of the key laws this nation was built on, yet they still have it
is action. Supporters of Welfare drug testing might say that it is completely unfair
and unjust that often before people can start working they have to submit a drug
test, but people on welfare don t have to to receive government handouts, but it a
completely different situation because all of the businesses that require
employees to take a drug test are privately owned. Drug test are needed to insure
that employees can be relied on to do their job such as police and army. Welfare is
different because it is managed by the government which is not allowed to do drug
tests because of the fourth amendment. Finally, welfare recipients should have the
right to not tell the government everything about them when they apply for
government handouts. As Judge Stanley Marcus, said that Citizens do not abandon
all hope of privacy by applying for government assistance. (Amy Sherman)
Everybody deserves the right to privacy, even people applying for welfare as the
quote says they have the right to have some privacy and to not be forced to take
drug tests and to get bombarded by random checking by the government. Another
reason that welfare drug testing should be banned is because it is based off
stereotypes and discrimination. Welfare drug testing is stereotyping because many of

Cryptocurrencies#оїѕ History of Electronic and Virtual Currencies Traditionally,
currencies have been tied to physical tangible items, such as paper or gold, and
provided three functions: a medium of exchange, a unit of account, and a store of
value. The earliest published research using cryptography as a basis for
electronically transferring cash is from 1982 by David Chaum, a Ph.D. graduate in
Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley. He founded a
company in 1990 called DigiCash, which originally sold smart cards for closed
systems, such as for highway tolls. In 1994, the company sent the first electronic cash
( ecash ) payment over public computer networks. The history of DigiCash is
controversial, but the ecash system appears to have been centralized and proprietary
and no corporate partnerships were formally established. Other companies, such as
Dexit, InternetCash, Qpass, Flooz, Mondex and NetCheque, performed similar online
payments, but none of these companies gained meaningful traction due to the
complexities and expenses of navigating the technological, economic, legal, political,
social, and cultural challenges in virtualizing currencies.[ ][ ] The two most common

Essay On Global Health Development
Global Health Development through the Lens of Nigeria Nigeria is a lower middle
income country located in western Africa. Nigeria is one of the fastest growing
populations in the world today, growing at a rate of 3.2 percent annually (United
States Agency for International Development, 2017). The combination of low income
and large populationintroduces many developmental challenges that Nigeria must
overcome in order to decrease individual health risk and increase quality of life. The
development of Nigeria is not just effected by health factors but also resource,
economic, and governmental limitations. In order to overcome all of these challenges
in countries such as Nigeria, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were
developed by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The status of health in Nigeria can be seen through indicators such as the incidence
of disease. The leading cause of death in Nigeria is Malaria, a disease that has been
completely eradicated in most countries (Center for Disease Control, 2013).
Treatment and test kits for malaria can be extremely expensive. However, a simple
vaccination can help to prevent the illness thus resulting in fewer deaths. Another
prominent disease seen in Nigeria is HIV. Nigeria has the second largest number
of cases of HIV in the world (United States Agency for International Development,
2017). Nigeria has developed a prevention plan to help provide therapy as soon as
possible however, HIV results in the death of many individuals as there is no cure.
The list of diseases which place burden on the health status of Nigeria is endless.
Ultimately, changes need to be made in order to prevent transmission, allow for early
detection, and eradicate diseases.
Health Priorities in terms of MDGs In theory, the MDGs were designed with the
best intentions of improving health across the world. However, progress for Nigeria
was noticeably lacking. Out of the eight goals, Nigeria only accomplished three goals
(TAC economics, 2017). The three goals that they achieved include: goal six of
combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, goal seven of ensuring
environmental sustainability, and goal eight of developing a global partnership for
development. In order to
The Pros And Cons Of Thalidomide
Hazardous Chemical Paper
Introduction:
In 1957, one of the worst chemical drugs was put on the market to result in a major
tragedy in the Chemical field. This drug was Thalidomide. Thalidomide is a mutagen,
studied in toxicology, in which it causes damage to the chemical material within an
embryo when in development. This drug was created in West Germany by a
pharmaceutical company, Chemie GrГјnenthal (Recognition of Thalidomide Defects,
n.d.). During this time when Thalidomide was introduced to the market, it was
classified as safe to use. This drug was originally prescribed to pregnant women to
prevent morning sickness, insomnia, anxiety and upset stomachs (Breaking News.,

Thalidomide has been shown to help stop the growing process of cancer, and other
skin conditions. One example of this was in 1964, a professor named Jacob
Sheskin from Hadassah University Hospital had a patient with leprosy. This
professor then used thalidomide to help treat it, and the results were successful
(Robertson, Jan 11, 2015.). By looking at the image on the right, it can be seen that
Thalidomide does bind to the protein CRBN, as recently stated up above. When a
carcinogen begins to cause a cancer, thalidomide actually stops the process of the
cancer from growing. Similarly, when a baby is growing, thalidomide stops the
advancements in the body, creating a negative outcome. But when thalidomide is
taken when negative advancements are already occurring like cancer, it is helpful
to stop them. This is a great example to show that Thalidomide should remain on
the market to help people with certain conditions. However, there should be rules
set into place. For example, if a person doesn t want to have any more kids, then
they should be able to take thalidomide as they won t be affected. Thalidomide only
affects the baby when it is developing, so it should be perfectly fine for the mother
to take it if she is done having kids. (Strong, Jan. 11,
Examples Of Heroes In The Novel Fearless
Have you ever wonder Who is my heroes and what have they done to be my hero.
well in the novel Fearless there are many people who are heroes. This novel is about
a guy named Adam Brown who is a hero to a lot of people. Nobody had hated him,
everyone thought he was a hero or wanted to be exactly like him. He was a navy
SEAL and he always did dares that his team or anyone had dared him to do. In this
novel I chose four people who are heros in Fearless . Adam, Kelley, and both of Adam
s parents are all heroes in this novel.
The first hero in this novel Fearless is Adam Brown. He is the biggest hero of the of
the whole novel and also the main character. These are some of the few things that
Adam has done in the time that he lived. Adam had been a hero because he got off
drugs that he had been taking a long time. He had hung out with people that were
not good to hang around with. Some of his friends cared about him and what he
did but other like the ones that were on drugs with him didn t care. Adam was a
hero because he had quit all the drugs he had been on because his wife had their
newborn baby son, Nathan Brown. After he had stopped taking drugs his life had
turned around. He became a navy SEAL he had done everything that he could to
become a SEAL. this is why he was everyone s hero, he try his best and he turned his
life around. Adam had loved his family and his teammates.

Analysis Of The House Of The Scorpion By Nancy Farmer
In the story, The House of the Scorpion, written by Nancy Farmer, the main
character is Matt Alacran. The main setting is the empire of Opium. In the beginning
of the story, a scientist creates Matt with great caution and fear. The main problem or
conflict in the book is that Matt is a clone of El PatrГіn, the feared drug lord of
Opium. The solution is El PatrГіn dies and Matt runs away to AztlГЎn to stay safe.
At the end of the story Matt is now the leader of Opium and must take care of all of
El PatrГіn s duties since everyone died at his funeral. First of all, I think that El
PatrГіn is an evil, cruel, and selfish person because he thinks he s entitled, killed his
family and friends so he wasn t lonely in the afterlife, and created the eejits even
though he didn t want to take care of him. The text states, There were eight of us,
said El PatrГіn, and only I lived to grow up. Don t you think I m owed those lives?

channel his feelings which is what I do. Whenever I m sad I play sad music, and
when I m happy I play more upbeat music. In the story, it says, He did, however,
keep listening to Felicia s music. It was something that had gotten inside him, and no
matter how dangerous it was, he couldn t go long without hearing it. When Matt
listens to music, he gets lost in that feeling. When I start listening to music it s like
there is nothing else in the world going on around me. I get so caught up in the music
that sometimes i spend hours just listening to
The Value Of The Marketing Model Canvas
Introduction
Airbnb was founded in August of 2008, and it started in San Francisco, California.
Airbnb provides an international platform for people to list, discover and book
unique lodging accommodations in their trips.no matter an apartment or castle, you
can have access by Airbnb with unique travel experiences, at relative lower price, in
more than 33,000 cities and 192 countries. And Business Model Canvas is used to

The success of Airbnb certainly is a result of the innovation of travel agency. The
company concerned the gap between consumer s desired state and actual state then
provided them a platform to engage with. It is significantly different with the
traditional linear model. Certainly, there is no market strategy can serve all
customers. For property owners, Airbnb enables them to earn extra money by listing
their extra rooms and house online with a savvy price. It also helps them to build
connection globally. Likewise, Airbnb also creates great value for those travellers,
and it satisfies their different demands with a considerable fair price. It also assists
them to build a connection with the local community quickly, which provides them
with an opportunity to experience the unique local culture and satisfy their
psychological need that can enrich their travel experience.
Value Delivery System
According to Dr. Erik A. Mooi (2015), the value delivery system is assessing from
three different dimensions.
Airbnb aims to build up a whole new experience for travellers and house renters
nowadays. Airbnb sparked the entire market by offering a unique customization in
their search engine by host languages, price ranges and the most distinct property
types. The convenience and wide accessibility of Airbnb such as worldwide website
and mobile apps, widen their market share and eased the booking process

Free Speech End And Hate Speech
Free Speech and the Charlottesville Protests When the country watched the events
unfold in Charlottesville back in August, many were distraught at the amount of
hatred, bigotry, and intolerance that was displayed. The events that unfolded would
bring up many questions that needed to be answered; the most prominent of which
was: Where does free speech end and hate speechbegin? In this essay I will lay out
the events of the Charlottesville protest, what caused the situation to get so out of
hand, and what can be done to prevent another such tragedy, while respecting the
civil rights and liberties of all involved in protests and counter protests. On August
11th, white supremacist groups held a rally in Charlottesville, Virginia which were
initially intended to protest the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue. That night, around
100 protesters marched through the campus of the University of Virginia. They
wielded tiki torches and shouted racial expressions such as Jews will not replace us
and Blood and Soil . However, the events of that night would ultimately pale in
comparison to the events that occurred the next day at Emancipation park. There,
several hundred protesters and counter protesters clashed for several hours, with
people throwing bricks, using pepper spray, and attacking one another with
improvised weapons. Local policedid not have control of the situation, with police

customers are. With the addition of Kmart this now gives us the opportunity to grow

primarily located in strip malls in heavily populated cities opposed to Sears s stores,
which are usually located in larger malls with more competition and are farther away.
Sears mission statement states they want to build customer relationships, make more

The Liberal Era Of The Progressive Era
A great democracy has got to be progressive or it will soon cease to be great or a

government to clean up society. Entering office in 1904, Theodore Roosevelt was an
individual in the republican Party, but as the country began to spin out of control
Roosevelt joined the new Progressive Party and saved the country from a disastrous
ending (685). Reformers set out to cleanse the country go its wrong doings. The
progressivism agenda included: an active government to right political, economic and
social wrongs (685). The activist only wanted the governments intervention for a

Multiple groups consolidated to fight for reform. The economic down fall was too
drastic that it effected a significant number of people from several groups, among
those included young protestants, muckrakers, and socialist. Young protestants were
passionate for righting moral wrongs and up lifting human spirts. Being raised in a
protestant home prompted their interest in social actions. Even though many of
them abandoned their religious pathway of becoming ministries or missionaries
they were still discouraged in the corruption in American politics and the separation
of rich and poor classes. Ida B Wells was a young protestant known as a muckraker,
whom worked in investigation journalism, her goal was to dredge up the muck in
American institutions. Ida B Well exposed John d Rockefeller as he had turned his
Standard Oil Company into monopoly. The govenor of New Year, theodore Roosevelt
gained congresses attention by his strong dedication, leadership and effort to rid the
state of corruption and patronage. This type of characteristics was exactly needed in
a president during this time of movement. Roosevelt was chosen to be McKinley s

normalcy as quick as possible. Recovery is often difficult and requires long term
support of the community health nurse in collaboration with state and national
efforts aid (Stanhope Lancaster, 2014). A nursing approach to recovery is to
remain flexible and continually assess community needs and determine
interventions that help to achieve pre disaster life (Stanhope Lancaster, 2014).
Many of Hawaii s PHN are not prepared for an emergency or disaster so training
through participation in disaster drills or actual disaster events is crucial (Baack
Alfred, 2013). A best practice strategy is participation in one of the Hawaii disaster
preparedness organizations such as; The Hawaii Medical Reserve Corps, which
members are a cumulative of physician and nurse volunteers who want to serve their
community when a disaster or public health emergency strikes ( HMRC, 2014). The
attendance of meetings, participation in preparedness exercises, and assistance in non
emergent community health activities all help the PHN to be prepared to respond
quickly when needed in a disaster ( HMRC, 2014). Summary Hawaii is known for its
natural disasters from floods, earthquakes, and the changing environment, and also

Development Of Smart Grid Technologies
INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO:IRINI SPYRIDAKIS
FROM:KAI SHI
SUBJECT:THE DEVELOPMENT OF SMART GRID TECHNOLOGIES
DATE:APRIAL 9, 2016
Introduction
This memorandum addresses to present an overview of the features, functionalities,
and characteristics of the Smart Grid. It expounds the effects of Smart Grid
technologies on the modern electricity grid, power industry, and society. Smart
Grids came up as a solution to make the electricity grid more adapt to the demand
of the times, make it more sustainable, greener, and more efficient to the delivery of
electric power. Smart Grids are more self governing and enhance the higher
effectivity and efficiency of power delivery, and they also allow renewable energy
recourses safely to connect into the grid to replenish the power supply from the
normal customers distributed power plants and storage, power industries can
minimize the cost to build more power plants with renewable energy, transmission
lines, and substations to raise the level of power supply which to adapt to the modern
electricity consumption. This memorandum can help people learn more about Smart
Grids, the better understanding of its value, the less resistance to the construction of
it, the faster promotion of the development of it. The purpose of it is to introduce
what the Smart Grid is, present the discussion of its features and related technologies,
demonstrate how these technologies will influence the modern electricity grid as
well as keep on developing and
Streaking Lab Report
Lab Three: Streaking and Spreading Plates
Introduction
In this laboratory experiment, we was introduce to an introduction to streaking and
spreading of bacteria in agar plates such that single cells can be isolated from one
another, each cell can reproduces to form a visible colony composed of genetically
identical clones. Streaking and spreading bacteria is to obtain individual colonies is
usually the first step in genetic manipulation of microorganisms.
Materials
Petri dishes
Metal transfer loop
Bunsen burner
Test tube rack
Glass spreader
Alcohol
E. coli
Methods
Streaking Procedure
1.The petri dish was labeled.
2.The metal transfer loop was sterilized before obtaining the specimen.
3.The culture was opened and the specimen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The spreader was placed in contact with the inoculum on the surface of the plate and
was positioned to allow the inoculum to run evenly along the length of the spreader.
The even pressure was applied to the spreader and the plate was spun by hand.
3.After the spread plate was permitted to absorb the inoculum for 10 minutes, they
were inverted and incubated.
Results
Streaking and spreading bacteria over the surface of the plate diluted the amount of
bacteria diluted until the individual cells were streak and spread of the surface of
the plate. From theses, individual cell a single colony arises. All cells in the colony
genetically identical. However, the streaking and spreading was not quite properly
performed, but there were some visible colonies that arise.
Discussion
In order to obtain well isolated discrete colonies, the quadrant streak and spread
technique was used. This allowed dilution of the original microbial material over
the entire surface of the plate. As the original sample was diluted by streaking and
spreading it, over successive quadrants the number of organism decreases. Usually
by the third or fourth quadrant only a few organism were transferred on the by the
inoculating loop and theses produce a few isolated
Narrative Experience In Ramadan
The tutorial class was filled with anticipation. Something was going to happen.
Every Muslim friend of mine lamented at how slow the clock was ticking or so it
seemed. As the time drew nearer, many just halted their tasks and began to
countdown. Suddenly, the clock struck five. The quiet and dull atmosphere was
transformed to a noisy and exciting one. This marked the class ended and they were
ready to break their fast soon. I was invited by my course mates to experience Bazaar
Ramadan. A thought of Jalan Masjid India and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman Bazaar
Ramadan came to my mind. Thus, I suggested to bring along my friends from Penang
to witness the exciting and fun filled circumstances from the bazaar of Kuala Lumpur.
I can hardly remember when I was still a kid, my father was mine of information
about the history of Ramadan. This is because he lived in a Malay village during his
childhood time. My father made friends and communicated with other ethnics of
children not only Chinese ethnic. His friends of Malay ethnic shared all the
knowledge about Ramadan with my father. Ramadan is the month of fasting
practiced by the most observant Muslims. Everyday during the month of Ramadan,
Muslims around the world get up before dawn (6:00 a.m.) to eat the Suhoor meal and
perform their Fajr prayer. They break their fast when the ... Show more content on

A five years old kid questioned his father what is murtabak? His father explained
patiently to his daughter that murtabak is one of the most popular street food and it
is a type of Indian stuffed pancake that layers of dough with minced meat curry
filling, eggs and onions to create a savoury parcel. There is variety of murtabak
depending on the area or country. Its appearance is just like Indian roti canai. I was
so anxious to have a try with it. It just costs RM2.50 per piece. Murtabak is usually

Joy Luck Club Strengths And Weaknesses
Two Kinds Strengths, Weaknesses, and More... After exploring the contradictions in
the lives of the Joy Luck Club, such as strength and weaknesses, obedience and
independence, individuality and society, joy and sadness, and hope and despair. It
really got me thinking about my strengths and weaknesses as a person(and where they
came from). Obviously, people s strengths and weaknesses are subjective, so
during the course of this writing session I will either use my own personal opinion
of what my strengths and weaknesses are or I will use my friends opinions on the
subject. When thinking about my strengths and weaknesses, I asked my friend
Harrison for help. He thinks that I am fairly intelligent, but that s about it. On the
downside he says that I give myself too much credit, meaning I have a big ego.
Harrison also claims that I have a short temper and repeat myself at times. I think
that my intelligence comes from my genetics, specifically from my dad. He got a
scholarship to the University of Iowa in accounting. He majored in business and
accounting to finally become a car salesman. He is now the general manager of
Carousel Motors in Iowa City, and he pressures me to do good in school. Along
with my intelligence, my short temper also comes from my dad. My dad has
always had a short fuse. Every time I did something wrong, he would either yell at
me or be visibly upset about the situation. This is the same with me, as I usually
get very mad if someone either doesn t listen to me or is acting very stupid in the
given situation. Balancing short temper is relatively simple and can be easily fixed
by medication. On the other hand, having a big ego is subjective to each and every
person and that changes how people perceive me. Therefore it is literally impossible
to balance ego.
The same thing goes with people saying I am too loud. My Video Production
teacher, Mrs. Saylor, loves my loud voice because it helps get a clearer audio
signal on the Liberty TV morning show. On the other hand, if you were a classmate
of mine that is across the room from me. You can see why they would get annoyed if
they could hear all my conversations because I am too loud. One non arguable
strength of mine is my physical strength. I

The hindrance of serum alanine and aspartate aminotransferases (SALT and SAST)
by anandamide in vitro was contemplated. The outcomes demonstrated that both
SALT and SAST were intensely restrained by anandamide and the enzymes
regained their strength by dialysis, showing that the inhibitory impact of
anandamide is reversible. The hindrance of both SALT and SAST by anandamide
was observed to be moderate and demonstrated the normal for a first request

Law of Directors Duties
The Law of Directors Duties The law of Directors Duties stems from the systems
of corporate governance in order to ensure that the persons occupying higher
positions within the company will take good care of the company, as well as not
act in a way that will create deficiency. There are 3 sources to the legal duties: the
common law; the principles of equitable fiduciary duties; and the statutory duties
stated under the Corporation Act section 180 183(Harris,J., 2008). The penalties of
breach could be civil or criminal, or even both without being considered double
jeopardy . Duties imposed by law are basically the idea that directors must: (1) act in
good faith, in the interest of the companys 181(1)(a) (2) act for a proper... Show more

This concept was also slightly changed by Daniels v Anderson to the point that the
directors also need to be aware of irregularities by monitoring their delegates as
well. ASIC v Adler Adler, director and shareholder, Williams, founder and CEO of
HIH Insurance, Fodera, HIH s finance director were prosecuted by ASIC on the
grounds of breach of directors duties under the Corporation Act ss 180(1), 181(1),
182(1) and 183(1). Adler received an insecure loan from HIH, by the permission
and facilitation of Williams and Fodera. The loan was used to purchase shares of
the companies Adler was involved, and partly used to purchase shares of HIH with
the hope to mislead the stock market and gain advantage from the increase of share
price. The decision was made in favor of ASIC that the three directors were in
breach of their duties. This case shows a range of breach of fiduciary duties; acting
in good faith for a proper purpose in the best interest of the company; conflict of
interest and making secret profits. It also showed the inability of the directors to
understand the concept of conflict of interest.(Lipton, P.,2003, p.275) The court has
affirmed the rule of separation of special board positions in determining each
director s responsibility and level of duties. In interpreting s180, though there was no
such word as duty of skill but the case has demonstrated that the court supports the
view that s180 incorporated such directors skill. (para 372)

Operant Conditioning Analysis
When I was young, I was very afraid of deep or large bodies of water. I would
scream and thrash and refuse to go into the water deeper than my knees. While
occasionally I still become nervous, I now have mostly overcome this fear. After
analyzing this fear through classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and social
cognitive learning, I have come up with a few explanations for the origin, and
alteration, of this behavior. I first tried to explain my behavior by learning about
classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is where a behavior is learned during a
period called acquisition. There are four stages, or parts, of acquisition. The
unconditioned stimulus (UCS), is when a stimulus is presented that elicits an
instinctive response that has not been learned. The unconditioned response (UCR),
which directly relates to the UCS, being the response elicited by the UCS. Then
comes the conditioned stimulus (CS), which is a... Show more content on

Operant conditioning is the modification of behavior through consequences. There
are two main types of consequences, reinforcement and punishment. Reinforcement is
where a behavior is strengthened by the stimulus that follows. Punishment is where a
behavior is decreased or weakened by the stimulus that follows. And then the type of
stimulus that followed is classified by being positive or negative. Positive is where
something is added or presented to the situation. Negative is where something is
taken away or removed from the situation. These types of stimuluses, and types of
consequences, can be combined into four types of operant conditioning. Positive
reinforcement, where something is added to strengthen a behavior. Negative
reinforcement, where something is taken away to strengthen a behavior. Positive
punishment, where something is added to weaken a behavior. And negative
punishment, where something is taken away to weaken behavior (Passer,

The sample size table in Appendix A indicates that a sample size of 58 is acceptable

Although Brian Thompson initialed all of the credit memos, he might not have
thoroughly examined the supporting documentation (i.e. customer return report and
inventory receipt) each and every time to ensure proper authorization has occurred.
As a result, the conclusion reached in R3(b) is more supportable.
R4 Conclusion: First control: Operating effectively Second control: Not enough
samples were tested Third control: Not operating effectively
Given that Darrell did not test enough transactions to provide sufficient assurance
regarding the second control, he would have to select more samples before a
conclusion can be reached. As 2 deviations have already been discovered, a third one
could suggest that the control cannot be relied upon, as per the firm s standards.
From the evidence gathered thus far, it appears that the third control is not working
effectively.
The controls for the revenue process should not be relied on completely, as there is
not sufficient evidence to conclude that all three controls are operating according to
design. The firm s policy indicates that to place high reliance on controls, the test
must be performed at a high level of assurance, i.e. 95 percent confidence. More
substantive testing would have to be done in order to provide assurance for the audit.

How ELT Has Helped Make English the Global Language
How ELT has Helped Make English the Global Language
Standardization of English Controversies It is not difficult to determine why
English began its rise as the predominant language in the world. Britain, the
progenitor of the language, once bragged that the Sun never set on the British
Empire. This is true in that the empire stretched to all areas of the globe, and the
nation of England had influence beyond just its possessions. Because the
conquerors spoke English, many of the citizens learned to at least use a few simple
phrases that would allow them to take the better jobs offered by the English. This
same scenario has happened since the United States has become the world
superpower. In areas such as commerce and science, it is almost non negotiable that a
person has to learn English to survive. The global climate dictates that there must be a
single language which everyone can turn to as that spoken in a particular discipline.
Because of the economic superiority of the United States over the past 50 years, and
the fact that the US has also dominated many fields within science, English is spoken
by many people around the world. However, it is a second language. The fact is that
English is not the preeminent first language. Chinese Mandarin has far more native
speakers than any other language in the world (Lovgren, 2004). Of course, just the
sheer volume of Chinese make this a certainty, but many of these people still speak
English as a second language because
Fire In The Ashes Analysis
Encountering Resiliency in Families and Youth of South Bronx
Jonathan Kozol s Fire in the Ashes is an honest depiction of the hardships and
triumphs of families in the South Bronx, New York. In this book, Kozol introduces
us to several Hispanic and Black families that he originally met in the Mott Haven
/Martinique Hotel in the 1980 s and allows us to view their trajectory in the
proceeding 25 years. By allowing the reader a look into the lives of these families, he
provides us with a realistic depiction of the disadvantages families living in poverty
encounter despite interventions from charity organizations and philanthropic donors.
Kozol identifies that without systematic justice and systematic equity in public
education (Kozol, 2013, pg 304) students in these impoverished neighborhoods will
continue to lack the same economic opportunities that may potentially lead them out
of the welfare system. Kozol emphasizes lack of stable housing, and unequal
educational opportunities, as primarily conditions to perpetuating poverty. Despite
the challenges that the families endure, Kozol is able to show that they are resilient.
Kozol begins the book by providing a backdrop of where he met many of the
families, in the welfare hotel Martinique Hotel in December 1985. The Martinique
Hotel was initially advertised as a temporary living facility, or a shelter, where 1400
children and about 400 of their parents struggled to prevail (Kozol, pg 3). Families in
these welfare hotels fell prey to the corrupt Koch administration that took advantage
of Federal emergency housing funds to put them up in hotels after demolishing other
low income homes (Anonymous, 1989). In the Martinique he illustrates the
inhumanities that occurred on a daily basis such as robberies, sex trafficking,
substance use and the described the decrepit living conditions where the residents
resided. Kozol identifies a family, Pietro Locatello, whom sought shelter at the
Martinique. Although Pietro tries his hardest to provide safety and inclusiveness in
his small one bedroom hotel room he is unable to save his son, Christopher, from the
allure of, what begins as pan handling for change, to potentially being sex trafficked
and involvement lifelong
Pablo Picasso Research Paper
The way one s work of life is taken in by perspective can vary in many different
ways. Modern art is different from romantic or realistic art by the work s complex,
interpretation, and overall impact on the viewer s thought process. There are
many ways why modern art was a rejection of traditional art work, romantic, and
even realistic art work. An artwork in the modern era was complex because of the
compositions of the artwork shown. Picasso was trying to show the viewers what
the Nazi s did to Guernica in a modern way but if a person glances at the piece of
work they see a jumbled mess of different images. This is when the viewer needs to
take a step back and try to understand what Picasso is conveying through the artwork.
Unlike what a romantic artist would portray in a more straight forward motion to get
the point across like E. Lutz s Washington Crossing the Delaware. This artist and
many more modern artist use shapes, shades, colors, focal points, depth perception,
and many more techniques to capture a moment or thing in the world.... Show more

the interpretation of E. Lutz s Washington Crossing the Delaware artwork can be

Schizophrenia Is The Most Common Mental Illness
Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe disorder which is equal in both Men and
Women and affects one percent of the worlds population, it is the most common
mental illness (Carlson 2014). Schizophrenia is the suffering from a split mind
which can start at a very early age and remain as a lifelong disease. (Tsuang 1982) In
the UK currently 250,000 people are suffering from Schizophrenia. (Crow 1991)
There are several symptoms which are found in Schizophrenics which are
characterised by positive, negative and cognitive symptoms. However some people
may differ differently due to their diagnosis of Schizophrenia. Some individuals may
show all the symptoms listed, whereas others may only display a small number of
them. (Jones et al.) In addition, the description of the symptoms of Schizophrenics
indicates that the disorder has been around for thousands of years. (Jeste et al.1985).
According to the Biological approach, Schizophrenia occurs due to brain
abnormalities which involves the absence of normal behaviour. Although, due to
Schizophrenia being strongly genetic and heritable, the presence of unusual
behaviour may be due to underlying biological factors. (Carlson 2014) The main
types of biological treatments available for Schizophrenia are Electro convulsive
therapy (ECT) and Psychosurgery, however there are other drugs therapies available
for Schizophrenia.
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) was developed in the 1930s and is the most
effective treatment for Schizophrenia.
The Misogynistic Henry Higgins
The Misogynistic Henry Higgins
The key to understanding George Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion lies in understanding
the power struggle between the haves and have nots specifically the active and
intentional disenfranchisement of women at the turn of the 20th century. At the core
of Pygmalion there is a focus on the societal inequities of the day, with Shaw
presenting society s treatment of women as property without rights and with little
understanding of their surroundings or place in society. Throughout the 19th century,
and into the early 20th century, when Shaw penned Pygmalion, British laws and
society actively restrained women, both politically and economically.

Much of English society and government mirrored Higgins beliefs. In 1888, an
appeals court judge, Lord Esther, ruled that neither by Common Law nor by the
Constitution of this country from the beginning of the Common Law until now can
a woman be entitled to exercise any public function. (Aked) This is notable because,
just as with the Reform Act of 1832, the ruling was a detriment to women, as
women were already exercising public functions , such as overseers, way wardens,
church wardens and members of school boards. This ruling was the first of several
rulings and legislations that removed rights and governmental access from women.
These actions of the British Parliament led to the creation of several suffrage
movement organizations in England, such as the Co operative Society and The

smaller groups, such as The Women s Liberal Association, The British Women s
Temperance Association, The Women s Textile Union, The Women s Labor

and Political Union, and The Men s League for Woman Suffrage, as well as many
others. It is well known that Shaw was an avid proponent of women s freedom and
suffrage, and it is quite possible that Shaw wrote Pygmalion with the idea of
promoting women s suffrage as, only three years earlier, he had already penned a

interacting systems. According to Wiki, Anatomy has become a key part of the visual
arts. The skeletal system is one of the most drawn systems of human anatomy. The
skeletal system is the framework of the human body that provides support, protection,

them. Bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage account for about twenty percent

Persuasive Essay On Animal Testing
Just in the United States, it is estimated that just over twenty five million animals are
used each year for animal research. These animals range anywhere from mice and
rabbits to farm animals, those such as sheep, pigs and even dogs and cats. Once an
experiment is done, the animal is either euthanized or used for additional
experiments. Animal research is morally wrong because these animals go through
inhumane procedures, it leaves the animal diseased, exhausted and may even lead the
animals to death.
Animal research is the process of forcing animals to go through experiments for the
benefits of humans. During these numerous procedures, the animals have to suffer
through injections, being exposed to radiation, inhaling gasses that may be toxic, and
even having their organs taken out. The animals can have their skin burned and their
brain damaged from tests that require them to have electrodes planted on the brain.
All these procedures are painful and are used for biomedical research, cosmetics and
products such as household products, and science education. Cosmetic and household
brands that use animal testing include MAC, Windex, Vicks, and many more. You can
find a list of products and information on companies that use animals testing at http:/

Individual Analysis of Working in a Group Situation Essay

Our group was able to effectively function without a designated leader. As a group, we
had many strengths. I believe one of our biggest strengths was our effective
communication. When we met in person all the members of our group used
therapeutic communication such as active listening, paraphrasing, and summarizing.
We were all very respectful of each other and maintained eye contact and receptive
nonverbal communication. There were several times during the movie that we
paused the movie to discuss the jurors ages, professions, or the dynamics between the
different jurors. Normally it wouldn t be acceptable to repeatedly pause a movie for
discussion, but it was widely accepted among our group and did not cause any
conflicts. Another form of communication that our group used was the internet. It
enabled us to receive papers via email attachment, and then download, print, edit, and
return the changes at our own leisure. The only drawback with using the internet for
communication is the lack of acknowledgement. In the future I will make sure that I
ask the recipient to acknowledge that they have received my communication. Groups
do not always start off fully formed and functioning. Bruce Tuckman s model of the
developmental sequence in small groups suggests that groups grow through clearly
defined stages, from their creation as groups of
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Track Gauge
In attempt to stimulate economic development and de congest roadways between
two major cities in South Africa, the decision has been made to build a railway as
alternative transport. An important decision needs to then be made concerning the
type of track gauge for the new railway line. A comparison, by a review of pros and
cons, is made between the 1076mm Cape gauge and the 1435mm Standard gaugein
order to recommend the more economically viable track gauge for the transport
infrastructure.
The Cape gauge was initially a better option as the narrow gauge reduced costs when
building through and around South Africa s mountainous terrain. These narrow
networks are lighter and have smaller radius curves, this makes them useful in the
mining, construction, tunnelling and quarrying industries where temporary railway
is needed.
Moving rolling stock is difficult with Cape gauges so there must always be enough

designs would have to be tested, prototyped and optimised before they are
Causes Of Youth Violence Essay
Youth violence is one of the major concerns all over the world today. Youth violence
is an unavoidable consequence in the 21st century and it cannot be stopped but it can
be reduced. Youth violence involves young people hurting other young people. Youth
violence typically includes teens between the ages of 10 to 24, but it can also begin
in early childhoodage. Most common youth violenceare Bullying in schools, School
Shootings, Childhood abuse, Suicide, Poor parenting, Pressure, Violent Tv shows,
Media, the internet, social media, Violent games and much more. Youth violence can
be found at schools, home, our neighborhoods and all over the places. Teen violence
has made an impact causing many devastating incidents in our world today. Teens act
on violence and no one answer to why and what causes teen violence.
Firstly, Poor parenting at homes can also lead children to violence. Parents attitude,
language, and carelessness can also lead children to violence. Children learn from
what they often see and listen and they don t know what is right and wrong, it is the
parent s responsibility to teach them to their children. Parents attitudes can influence
children to act on violence. Some parents are not aware that when they fight or use
bad words in front of their children that their child is also learning and adapting what
transpires around them. Also, poor parents cannot offer their children what they want.
To get what they want some children begins to steal someone else s
A Day At The Technology Student Association State
Conference
The day my life flashed before my eyes started as though it was any other day at the
Technology Student Association State Conference. The day started out with
anticipation and excitement for the competitive events held that day. The only
competitive event I was to participate in was the Electrathon race, which was
scheduled for later that afternoon. The Electrathon Race is an event where we race
student designed go kart sized vehicles that are powered by two twelve volt
batteries. The point of the race is to see how many laps you can go in one hour on
one battery charge. Even though I was not competing in an event that morning, I still
had to dress in khaki pants, a polo shirt, and closed toed loafers to enter and attended
the conference sessions. Leaving my hotelroom and stepping onto the elevator, I was
ready for the day.
As I walked out of the revolving door of the Hilton I was excited but nervous for
the events to come that day. I crossed the street and headed into the Classic Center.
Weaving through the crowds of people I headed to the escalator to go down Grand
Hall 8 to find my advisor. As I stepped onto the escalator and headed down, my
mind speed up and the nerves kicked in at full speed. I stepped off the escalator and
weaving through the crowd again to get to my destination. When I arrived at Grand
Hall 8, I found Mr. Morgan ,my advisor. He gave me keys to go check the trailer for
helmets.
Going back through the crowds, I headed out of the building and out
A Tale Of Two Cities Sacrifice Analysis
The Colombian hit singer Shakira says, You can t achieve anything without sacrifice.
This principle has been illustrated in the lives of thousands of people, not only in real
life, but spanning across the expanses of literature as well. Similarly, notwithstanding
their different story lines and centuries, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseiniand A
Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens are linked in the principle of sacrifice: they
are never easy; however, the necessity of sacrifice results in people who are willing
to make them, especially to achieve freedom, and protect those they love. Characters
in both The Kite Runner and A Tale of Two Cities are willing to sacrifice in order to
free themselves and others. Charles Darnay, the would be... Show more content on

He is willing to enter a country now in control of the radical and extremely
dangerous Taliban, work against nearly impossible odds to find a single boy, and
almost loses his life in the process. However, despite each of these sacrifices safety,
time, effort, and health Amir is glad because he finally feels clean, something
evidenced by his reaction to Assef s beating. Amir s body was broken just how
badly I wouldn t find out until later but I felt healed. I laughed (Hosseini 289).
Moreover, Amir s sacrifice is also to help free Sohrab from Assef. Even when Amir
would like nothing more than to leave Afghanistan, he stays to help Sohrab. He
spends countless hours talking to lawyers and on phone calls to ensure that
Sohrab will never have to live in the captivity of an orphanage again. Amir s
sacrifice to free himself as well as Sohrab exemplifies the force of freedom as a
cause for sacrifice. Similarly, Sydney Carton sacrifices for the freedom of others.
He gives everything he has, including his life, to allow Lucie and her family to
escape France and live in freedom. Carton goes voluntarily to the guillotine in place
of Darnay, not because of an obligation, but because it was his own idea in the first
place. As is common with all sacrifice, both Amir, Carton, and Darnay gave of
themselves willingly to achieve their goal of freedom for themselves or others.

Mononucleosis Essay
Introduction
Mononucleosis is a viral disease that affects those usually between the age of ten
and thirty five, although a person at any age can get the disease. This disease found
in mainly adolescents and adults seems to only occur in those who escaped the
Epstein Barr virus infection in childhood. It is also known as Glandular Fever,
because it affects the lymph nodes in the neck, arm pits and groin. It can last
anywhere from one to two weeks to six to eight weeks, some people suffer from
mononucleosis for months at a time, but as an individual it depends on your personal
recuperation time. Recuperation is a very slow process, which demands a lot of
sleep and rest. Being sick for a length of time such ... Show more content on

When diagnosed with Mononucleosis, the doctor usually informs you to avoid any
sports, except swimming, because if you receive a blow to your spleen, it could
rupture, requiring surgery. Enlargement of the spleen occurs in 2 out of every 3
cases and is not uncommon. Signs of a ruptured spleen include; pain in the left upper
abdomen, feeling light headed, feeling like your heart is beating fast and hard,
bleeding more easily than usual and having breathing trouble.
The inflammation of the liver is detected by the blood tests taken and can be reduced
by drinking lots and lots of fluids, to flush out the toxins. A patient can detect liver
inflammation by nausea, vomiting, reduced appetite and jaundice. It is also possible
to obtain rash like symptoms, similar to those of measles or scarlet fever. They can
appear all over the body and are very itchy, much like hives. A cortisone cream
applied in small amounts to the small bumps can reduce the itch and swelling. Severe
scratching of the bumps can leave scars.
In about 2% of all cases, pneumonia is present. Encephalitis, meningitis or peripheral
neuritis can occur, but is usually uncommon. In some cases, the upper eyelids can
swell, which is a common finding among mono patients. In some cases, the urine
may contain blood, but those are very rare
Elizabeth Wakefield, 16 And Of The Industrial Revolution...
In the waning days of 1839, the small farmland of Frithville, Lincolnshire,
witnessed the marriage of two teenagers. Elizabeth Wakefield, 16 and William
Sharp 17, had set up their new life some distance from their parents on a farm
where William could labour, as most Lincolnshire men did. The substantial farm on
Stount Road, owned by a 30 year old bachelor, Charles Ireland, functioned with the
hands of at least 3 other young men just as William plus 4 male and one female
servants, none of whom were over 25 years. Three Simpson toddlers dwelled nearby
to occasionally brighten the hard working familys daily lives. This is the setting for
the birth of Sarah Ann whom Elizabeth delivered on February 5, 1842.
The early 1840s in Lincolnshire, like the rest of England, was in the middle of the
Industrial Revolution that included the struggle for democracy, development of the
Poor
Law and penitentiary system as well as significant changes in the status and powers
of both women and children. Then there was the potato blight later in the decade that
ravaged Europe, England, Scotland, but in particular Ireland.
Lincolnshire was included in this disaster, but as its agriculture was more diversified
and hence the population not so dependent on the potato, the hardship that befell the
citizens was more muted than it would have otherwise would have been. All of this
meant that there was great changes and dangers faced by the ordinary folk. With the
birth of Sarah Ann, and later her
Taking a Look at The Matrix
The Matrix is a sci fi action film created in 1999 by Andy and Lana Wachowski.
The Matrix explores each branch of philosophy with great depth, giving the
viewers a reason to question the world we live in today. The most intellectually
stimulating problem presented by the Matrix trilogy is the question of the nature of
reality posed by the premise of the film. This is actually an ancient question, which
Plato asked and attempted to answer in his Dialogues, especially in the famous
allegory of the cave. Both share the major philosophical issue, metaphysics, with the
ongoing questions of What is reality? and Are we living in the real world or an
illusion of the real world? Are we only glimpsing that which we have the potential to
behold?
Other main philosophical issues evident in The Matrix are ethics: is it morally
acceptable to kill someone to save another person s life? or is someone s life worth
sacrificing to save a lot of people . When taking in the political side of things we
come across the ethical issue: is it acceptable for the government to keep things
from us that we wouldn t like or want to know? Another ethical issue perceived in
The Matrix is Epistemology: how do we know what we know? and How do we
know that we have reached our fullest potential?
The Matrix and Plato s Allegory of the Cave both show us how to perceive our own
reality and to distinguish between what is real and what is not real and how the
people living in the Matrix world are

  • 2. Symbolism And Metaphors In Poetry Symbolism and Metaphor in Poetry The meaning of a poem can be expressed through literary devices such as a metaphor or symbolism. When looking at the poem My Papa s Waltz , there is symbolism and there are also metaphors being shown. A metaphor is comparing two unlike things without using like or as and symbolism is to reinforce, add, and carry more meaning. In My Papa s Waltz, there are numerous times that symbolism is enforced. For example, the lines: The whiskey on your breath Could make a small boy dizzy; But I hung on like death; Such waltzing was not easy. We romped until the pans Slid from the kitchen shelf; My mother s countenance Could not unfrown itself. (1 8) suggest that the child was living with an abusive, drunk father and a mother who could not stand up for herself or her child. Some symbols in the poem are waltzing and whiskey. Waltzing symbolizes the abuse the father did and whiskey symbolizes the drinking the father did. Those two things symbolize the meaning of the poem. The meaning of this poem suggests that alcoholics are mean and aggressive towards others. They are also hard to cooperate with, which might infer why the mother could not help her son during the traumatic beatings. Metaphors are also visible in the poem as well and are shown in the lines You beat time on my head With a palm caked hard by dirt, Then waltzed me off to bed Still clinging to your shirt. (13 16) When it says you beat time on my head (851), the speaker wasn t

  • 4. 3.e) C term of the Van Deemter equation is affected by the... 3.e) C term of the Van Deemter equation is affected by the change of mobile phase since it is proportional to the linear flow rate (u). C term can be decreased by decreasing the flow rate of the mobile phase. In turn it can also be increased with increasing flow rate. When the mobile phase is 70% acetonitrile and 30% water, the more hydrophobic it is, the faster compounds pass through the column, which increases the C term. Since the stationary phase is more hydrophobic, compounds elute quicker because they are polar and therefore less retained. This increases the C term because flow rate is increased. Viscous stationary phases will also have larger C terms. However when a less viscous mobile phases is used, this allows the analytes to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarity that HILIC shares with normal phase HPLC is that the elution order is the same and it is in the order of increasing hydrophobicity. HILIC also requires a high amount of nonpolar mobile phase and a polar stationary phase just like normal phase HPLC. The difference between the two is that HILIC requires some water in the mobile phase to maintain a water layer on the surface so that compounds can selectively partition. It employs a semi aqueous mobile phase. Water miscible organic solvents are used in HILIC whereas water immiscible solvents are in normal phase HPLC. Stationary phase in HILIC are required to be polar, and water can act as a stationary phase. The stationary phase is more polar than the mobile liquid, and these two liquids must be immiscible with each other. By the process of partitioning between the water molecules in the stationary phase and any solvent used as the mobile phase, separation of the analytes can occur. The different solubilities of the components in the mobile phase and different adsorption forces is what causes the process of partitioning to occur and bring out separation. Separation occurs when the mobile phase consists of a water miscible organic solvent such as acetonitrile and to promote hydrophilic interactions between the analyte and the water stationary phase. 6. • 5. Don’t Discriminate the Breed How would you react if you became next to or close to a stray dog? Would you respond by running, yelling, or even kicking or hitting the animal? Would you respond calmly, call animal control or even walk away? Just because the dog is mean doesn t make it aggressive. Aggression is such a broad term and it s not all bad. The four types I am going to address are protective aggression, territorial aggression, fear motivated aggression, and pain induced aggression. Aggression that happens when a mother protects a family member whether it is human or another animal is called protective aggression. Dogs that want to protect/defend their home or area is territorial aggression. An example is when you dog chases up and down the fence line. When a dog is scared it may protect itself for their own safety. That is known as fear motivated aggression. This often occurs most then a dog is stuck or cornered. Pain induced aggression is when a dog is in pain it can respond aggressively. When they do that it is to try and help their selves but it may injury someone else. That is why when you are approaching a wounded animal you do so with caution. A lot of people say aggression is random but it s not. Aggression can be triggered many ways. It is also always response to something in the dog s environment whether it is an action of a human or the appearance /attitude of another dog. Cesar Millan says any breed can cause trouble. The difference between an aggressive small breed like a Chihuahua

The moment the pilgrims departed from England and landed at Plymouth, they set the stage for the following events in American history. In the years to come, the colonists experienced a form of salutary neglect from the motherland, Britain, and delighted in a new found freedom. Although Britain created the rules and guidelines for America, they were poorly enforced. After all, America was 3,000 miles away. America initiated a few revolutionary movements, including Bacon s Rebellion; however, Britain quickly extinguished them. As an extension of Britain, America was expected to fight alongside their troops; this plays a crucial role in the French and Indian War (Seven Years War). Throughout 1754 1763, Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all, wars are expensive. The amount of food and supplies needed for the soldiers, along with their salary, costs millions, if not more. To regain money, Britain began charging the colonists more; however, their reasoning extended past the war s cost. The British leaders, like George Grenville and Charles Townshend, claimed that the laws needed to be enforced because the colonists were British subjects and needed to be protected and watched over. However, this mentality of imposing taxes overstepped the line of control, especially after the extended period of salutary neglect. The British started to tax the colonists in a way to show their dominance, not their support or love. After all, who did the Americans need protection from? In the Seven Years War, Americans proved their strength against the French by winning battles without Britain s help, and the colonist had been dealing with the Indians since the beginning. The only explanation is control. Similarly, during the Qin dynasty in China, the emperor enforced heavy taxes to gain control over the merchants and landowners; however, the plan eventually fell through. With the same approach, Americans began to feel annoyed and uneasy with the

People have been looking for a way to cut the costs of welfare for many years. And then Welfare drug testing was proposed. At initial thought it seemed like a grand idea and a great way to cut costs and to eliminate all the drug users in the system, and because of that welfare drug testing has been put into action in 13 states. But, welfare drug testing is completely ineffective. Supporters of Welfare drug testing might say that it is completely unfair and unjust that often before people can start working they have to submit a drug test, but people on welfare don t have to to receive government handouts, but it a completely different situation because all of the businesses that require employees to take a drug test are privately owned. Drug test are needed to insure that employees can be relied on to do their job such as police and army. Welfare is different because it is managed by the government which is not allowed to do drug tests because of the fourth amendment. Finally, welfare recipients should have the right to not tell the government everything about them when they apply for government handouts. As Judge Stanley Marcus, said that Citizens do not abandon all hope of privacy by applying for government assistance. (Amy Sherman) Everybody deserves the right to privacy, even people applying for welfare as the quote says they have the right to have some privacy and to not be forced to take drug tests and to get bombarded by random checking by the government. Another reason that welfare drug testing should be banned is because it is based off stereotypes and discrimination. Welfare drug testing is stereotyping because many of the people who support

The earliest published research using cryptography as a basis for electronically transferring cash is from 1982 by David Chaum, a Ph.D. graduate in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley. He founded a company in 1990 called DigiCash, which originally sold smart cards for closed systems, such as for highway tolls. In 1994, the company sent the first electronic cash ( ecash ) payment over public computer networks. The history of DigiCash is controversial, but the ecash system appears to have been centralized and proprietary and no corporate partnerships were formally established. Other companies, such as Dexit, InternetCash, Qpass, Flooz, Mondex and NetCheque, performed similar online payments, but none of these companies gained meaningful traction due to the complexities and expenses of navigating the technological, economic, legal, political, social, and cultural challenges in virtualizing currencies.[ ][ ] The two most common types of virtual currencies are:

Similarly, when a baby is growing, thalidomide stops the advancements in the body, creating a negative outcome. But when thalidomide is taken when negative advancements are already occurring like cancer, it is helpful to stop them. This is a great example to show that Thalidomide should remain on the market to help people with certain conditions. However, there should be rules set into place. For example, if a person doesn t want to have any more kids, then they should be able to take thalidomide as they won t be affected. Thalidomide only affects the baby when it is developing, so it should be perfectly fine for the mother to take it if she is done having kids. (Strong, Jan. 11,

The attendance of meetings, participation in preparedness exercises, and assistance in non emergent community health activities all help the PHN to be prepared to respond quickly when needed in a disaster ( HMRC, 2014). Summary Hawaii is known for its natural disasters from floods, earthquakes, and the changing environment, and also from

Development Of Smart Grid Technologies INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM TO:IRINI SPYRIDAKIS FROM:KAI SHI SUBJECT:THE DEVELOPMENT OF SMART GRID TECHNOLOGIES DATE:APRIAL 9, 2016 Introduction This memorandum addresses to present an overview of the features, functionalities, and characteristics of the Smart Grid. It expounds the effects of Smart Grid technologies on the modern electricity grid, power industry, and society. Smart Grids came up as a solution to make the electricity grid more adapt to the demand of the times, make it more sustainable, greener, and more efficient to the delivery of electric power. Smart Grids are more self governing and enhance the higher effectivity and efficiency of power delivery, and they also allow renewable energy recourses safely to connect into the grid to replenish the power supply from the normal customers distributed power plants and storage, power industries can minimize the cost to build more power plants with renewable energy, transmission lines, and substations to raise the level of power supply which to adapt to the modern electricity consumption. This memorandum can help people learn more about Smart Grids, the better understanding of its value, the less resistance to the construction of it, the faster promotion of the development of it. The purpose of it is to introduce what the Smart Grid is, present the discussion of its features and related technologies, demonstrate how these technologies will influence the modern electricity grid as well as keep on developing and

The spreader was placed in contact with the inoculum on the surface of the plate and was positioned to allow the inoculum to run evenly along the length of the spreader. The even pressure was applied to the spreader and the plate was spun by hand. 3.After the spread plate was permitted to absorb the inoculum for 10 minutes, they were inverted and incubated. Results Streaking and spreading bacteria over the surface of the plate diluted the amount of bacteria diluted until the individual cells were streak and spread of the surface of the plate. From theses, individual cell a single colony arises. All cells in the colony genetically identical. However, the streaking and spreading was not quite properly performed, but there were some visible colonies that arise. Discussion In order to obtain well isolated discrete colonies, the quadrant streak and spread technique was used. This allowed dilution of the original microbial material over the entire surface of the plate. As the original sample was diluted by streaking and spreading it, over successive quadrants the number of organism decreases. Usually by the third or fourth quadrant only a few organism were transferred on the by the inoculating loop and theses produce a few isolated

Every Muslim friend of mine lamented at how slow the clock was ticking or so it seemed. As the time drew nearer, many just halted their tasks and began to countdown. Suddenly, the clock struck five. The quiet and dull atmosphere was transformed to a noisy and exciting one. This marked the class ended and they were ready to break their fast soon. After exploring the contradictions in the lives of the Joy Luck Club, such as strength and weaknesses, obedience and independence, individuality and society, joy and sadness, and hope and despair. It really got me thinking about my strengths and weaknesses as a person(and where they came from). Obviously, people s strengths and weaknesses are subjective, so during the course of this writing session I will either use my own personal opinion of what my strengths and weaknesses are or I will use my friends opinions on the subject. When thinking about my strengths and weaknesses, I asked my friend Harrison for help. He thinks that I am fairly intelligent, but that s about it. On the downside he says that I give myself too much credit, meaning I have a big ego. Harrison also claims that I have a short temper and repeat myself at times. I think that my intelligence comes from my genetics, specifically from my dad. He got a scholarship to the University of Iowa in accounting. He majored in business and accounting to finally become a car salesman. He is now the general manager of Carousel Motors in Iowa City, and he pressures me to do good in school. Along with my intelligence, my short temper also comes from my dad. My dad has always had a short fuse. Every time I did something wrong, he would either yell at me or be visibly upset about the situation. This is the same with me, as I usually get very mad if someone either doesn t listen to me or is acting very stupid in the given situation. Balancing short temper is relatively simple and can be easily fixed by medication. On the other hand, having a big ego is subjective to each and every person and that changes how people perceive me. Therefore it is literally impossible to balance ego. The same thing goes with people saying I am too loud. My Video Production teacher, Mrs. Saylor, loves my loud voice because it helps get a clearer audio signal on the Liberty TV morning show. On the other hand, if you were a classmate of mine that is across the room from me. You can see why they would get annoyed if they could hear all my conversations because I am too loud. One non arguable strength of mine is my physical strength. I

Law of Directors Duties The Law of Directors Duties The law of Directors Duties stems from the systems of corporate governance in order to ensure that the persons occupying higher positions within the company will take good care of the company, as well as not act in a way that will create deficiency. There are 3 sources to the legal duties: the common law; the principles of equitable fiduciary duties; and the statutory duties stated under the Corporation Act section 180 183(Harris,J., 2008). The penalties of breach could be civil or criminal, or even both without being considered double jeopardy . Adler received an insecure loan from HIH, by the permission and facilitation of Williams and Fodera. The loan was used to purchase shares of the companies Adler was involved, and partly used to purchase shares of HIH with the hope to mislead the stock market and gain advantage from the increase of share price. The decision was made in favor of ASIC that the three directors were in breach of their duties. This case shows a range of breach of fiduciary duties; acting in good faith for a proper purpose in the best interest of the company; conflict of interest and making secret profits. It also showed the inability of the directors to understand the concept of conflict of interest.(Lipton, P.,2003, p.275) The court has affirmed the rule of separation of special board positions in determining each director s responsibility and level of duties. In interpreting s180, though there was no such word as duty of skill but the case has demonstrated that the court supports the view that s180 incorporated such directors skill. (para 372)

While occasionally I still become nervous, I now have mostly overcome this fear. After analyzing this fear through classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and social cognitive learning, I have come up with a few explanations for the origin, and alteration, of this behavior. I first tried to explain my behavior by learning about classical conditioning. Classical conditioning is where a behavior is learned during a period called acquisition. There are four stages, or parts, of acquisition. The unconditioned stimulus (UCS), is when a stimulus is presented that elicits an instinctive response that has not been learned. How ELT Has Helped Make English the Global Language How ELT has Helped Make English the Global Language Standardization of English Controversies It is not difficult to determine why English began its rise as the predominant language in the world. Britain, the progenitor of the language, once bragged that the Sun never set on the British Empire. This is true in that the empire stretched to all areas of the globe, and the nation of England had influence beyond just its possessions. Because the conquerors spoke English, many of the citizens learned to at least use a few simple phrases that would allow them to take the better jobs offered by the English. This same scenario has happened since the United States has become the world superpower. In areas such as commerce and science, it is almost non negotiable that a person has to learn English to survive. The global climate dictates that there must be a single language which everyone can turn to as that spoken in a particular discipline. Because of the economic superiority of the United States over the past 50 years, and the fact that the US has also dominated many fields within science, English is spoken by many people around the world. However, it is a second language. The fact is that English is not the preeminent first language. Chinese Mandarin has far more native speakers than any other language in the world (Lovgren, 2004). Of course, just the sheer volume of Chinese make this a certainty, but many of these people still speak English as a second language because

Fire In The Ashes Analysis Encountering Resiliency in Families and Youth of South Bronx Jonathan Kozol s Fire in the Ashes is an honest depiction of the hardships and triumphs of families in the South Bronx, New York. In this book, Kozol introduces us to several Hispanic and Black families that he originally met in the Mott Haven /Martinique Hotel in the 1980 s and allows us to view their trajectory in the proceeding 25 years. By allowing the reader a look into the lives of these families, he provides us with a realistic depiction of the disadvantages families living in poverty encounter despite interventions from charity organizations and philanthropic donors. Kozol identifies that without systematic justice and systematic equity in public education (Kozol, 2013, pg 304) students in these impoverished neighborhoods will continue to lack the same economic opportunities that may potentially lead them out of the welfare system. Kozol emphasizes lack of stable housing, and unequal educational opportunities, as primarily conditions to perpetuating poverty. Despite the challenges that the families endure, Kozol is able to show that they are resilient. Kozol begins the book by providing a backdrop of where he met many of the families, in the welfare hotel Martinique Hotel in December 1985. The Martinique Hotel was initially advertised as a temporary living facility, or a shelter, where 1400 children and about 400 of their parents struggled to prevail (Kozol, pg 3). Families in these welfare hotels fell prey to the corrupt Koch administration that took advantage of Federal emergency housing funds to put them up in hotels after demolishing other low income homes (Anonymous, 1989). In the Martinique he illustrates the inhumanities that occurred on a daily basis such as robberies, sex trafficking, substance use and the described the decrepit living conditions where the residents resided. Kozol identifies a family, Pietro Locatello, whom sought shelter at the Martinique. Although Pietro tries his hardest to provide safety and inclusiveness in his small one bedroom hotel room he is unable to save his son, Christopher, from the allure of, what begins as pan handling for change, to potentially being sex trafficked and involvement lifelong

Modern art is different from romantic or realistic art by the work s complex, interpretation, and overall impact on the viewer s thought process. The only competitive event I was to participate in was the Electrathon race, which was scheduled for later that afternoon. The Electrathon Race is an event where we race student designed go kart sized vehicles that are powered by two twelve volt batteries. The point of the race is to see how many laps you can go in one hour on one battery charge. Even though I was not competing in an event that morning, I still had to dress in khaki pants, a polo shirt, and closed toed loafers to enter and attended the conference sessions. Leaving my hotelroom and stepping onto the elevator, I was ready for the day. As I walked out of the revolving door of the Hilton I was excited but nervous for the events to come that day. I crossed the street and headed into the Classic Center. Weaving through the crowds of people I headed to the escalator to go down Grand Hall 8 to find my advisor. As I stepped onto the escalator and headed down, my mind speed up and the nerves kicked in at full speed. I stepped off the escalator and weaving through the crowd again to get to my destination. When I arrived at Grand Hall 8, I found Mr. Morgan ,my advisor. He gave me keys to go check the trailer for helmets. Going back through the crowds, I headed out of the building and out
  • 41. A Tale Of Two Cities Sacrifice Analysis The Colombian hit singer Shakira says, You can t achieve anything without sacrifice. This principle has been illustrated in the lives of thousands of people, not only in real life, but spanning across the expanses of literature as well. Similarly, notwithstanding their different story lines and centuries, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseiniand A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens are linked in the principle of sacrifice: they are never easy; however, the necessity of sacrifice results in people who are willing to make them, especially to achieve freedom, and protect those they love. Characters in both The Kite Runner and A Tale of Two Cities are willing to sacrifice in order to free themselves and others. Charles Darnay, the would be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is willing to enter a country now in control of the radical and extremely dangerous Taliban, work against nearly impossible odds to find a single boy, and almost loses his life in the process. However, despite each of these sacrifices safety, time, effort, and health Amir is glad because he finally feels clean, something evidenced by his reaction to Assef s beating. Amir s body was broken just how badly I wouldn t find out until later but I felt healed. I laughed (Hosseini 289). Moreover, Amir s sacrifice is also to help free Sohrab from Assef. Even when Amir would like nothing more than to leave Afghanistan, he stays to help Sohrab. He spends countless hours talking to lawyers and on phone calls to ensure that Sohrab will never have to live in the captivity of an orphanage again. Amir s sacrifice to free himself as well as Sohrab exemplifies the force of freedom as a cause for sacrifice. Similarly, Sydney Carton sacrifices for the freedom of others. He gives everything he has, including his life, to allow Lucie and her family to escape France and live in freedom. Carton goes voluntarily to the guillotine in place of Darnay, not because of an obligation, but because it was his own idea in the first place. As is common with all sacrifice, both Amir, Carton, and Darnay gave of themselves willingly to achieve their goal of freedom for themselves or others. Carton s

When diagnosed with Mononucleosis, the doctor usually informs you to avoid any sports, except swimming, because if you receive a blow to your spleen, it could rupture, requiring surgery. The inflammation of the liver is detected by the blood tests taken and can be reduced by drinking lots and lots of fluids, to flush out the toxins. A patient can detect liver inflammation by nausea, vomiting, reduced appetite and jaundice. It is also possible to obtain rash like symptoms, similar to those of measles or scarlet fever. They can appear all over the body and are very itchy, much like hives. A cortisone cream applied in small amounts to the small bumps can reduce the itch and swelling. Severe scratching of the bumps can leave scars. In about 2% of all cases, pneumonia is present. Encephalitis, meningitis or peripheral neuritis can occur, but is usually uncommon. In some cases, the upper eyelids can swell, which is a common finding among mono patients. In some cases, the urine may contain blood, but those are very rare
  • 44. Elizabeth Wakefield, 16 And Of The Industrial Revolution... In the waning days of 1839, the small farmland of Frithville, Lincolnshire, witnessed the marriage of two teenagers. Elizabeth Wakefield, 16 and William Sharp 17, had set up their new life some distance from their parents on a farm where William could labour, as most Lincolnshire men did. The substantial farm on Stount Road, owned by a 30 year old bachelor, Charles Ireland, functioned with the hands of at least 3 other young men just as William plus 4 male and one female servants, none of whom were over 25 years. Three Simpson toddlers dwelled nearby to occasionally brighten the hard working familys daily lives. This is the setting for the birth of Sarah Ann whom Elizabeth delivered on February 5, 1842. The early 1840s in Lincolnshire, like the rest of England, was in the middle of the Industrial Revolution that included the struggle for democracy, development of the Poor Law and penitentiary system as well as significant changes in the status and powers of both women and children. Then there was the potato blight later in the decade that ravaged Europe, England, Scotland, but in particular Ireland. Lincolnshire was included in this disaster, but as its agriculture was more diversified and hence the population not so dependent on the potato, the hardship that befell the citizens was more muted than it would have otherwise would have been. All of this meant that there was great changes and dangers faced by the ordinary folk. With the birth of Sarah Ann, and later her
  • 45. Taking a Look at The Matrix The Matrix is a sci fi action film created in 1999 by Andy and Lana Wachowski. The Matrix explores each branch of philosophy with great depth, giving the viewers a reason to question the world we live in today. The most intellectually stimulating problem presented by the Matrix trilogy is the question of the nature of reality posed by the premise of the film. This is actually an ancient question, which Plato asked and attempted to answer in his Dialogues, especially in the famous allegory of the cave. Both share the major philosophical issue, metaphysics, with the ongoing questions of What is reality? and Are we living in the real world or an illusion of the real world? Are we only glimpsing that which we have the potential to behold? Other main philosophical issues evident in The Matrix are ethics: is it morally acceptable to kill someone to save another person s life? or is someone s life worth sacrificing to save a lot of people . When taking in the political side of things we come across the ethical issue: is it acceptable for the government to keep things from us that we wouldn t like or want to know? Another ethical issue perceived in The Matrix is Epistemology: how do we know what we know? and How do we know that we have reached our fullest potential? The Matrix and Plato s Allegory of the Cave both show us how to perceive our own reality and to distinguish between what is real and what is not real and how the people living in the Matrix world are
