This document discusses enterprise project management from Lenati's perspective. It covers the benefits of establishing governance over a project portfolio using tools like a stage/gate approach. It emphasizes using an Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) to establish standard processes, templates, and training. The EPMO also supports executive oversight of the project portfolio. Lenati offers services to help clients set up these governance structures and manage projects more successfully.

Enterprise Project Management Essential #1Nah Wee Yang
The first "Enterprise Project Management Essential" seminar held at Microsoft Singapore Auditorium, on 31-July-2007. Organized by the EPM Specialist: Systemethod, and sponsored by Microsoft Singapore.
This Workshop summarizes the reasons that modern project management (PM) is important to all enterprises today, in the highly competitive environment of this digital, Internet Age.
The requirements to achieve these important benefits are discussed, and the concept that PM is a core competency required of all executives is presented
Programs and projects are of great importance to all banking, insurance, industry, governmental and other organizations.
They are the means by which companies, especially when delivering complex, advanced products or systems to their customers, earn a major share of their profit.
In all these various organizations there are a growing recognition that although many projects apparently exist within the organization they are often poorly understood and frequently not properly managed.
More organizations are now recognizing these facts, and more are approaching the management of these growth steps using proven project management principles and practices.
Essentially all enterprises realize their long range growth strategies through the creation, planning, and execution of unique efforts that we call projects.
In order for any enterprise to properly, effectively, and prudently manage their future growth, modern project management principles and practices must be applied.
Thus the application of these practices, methods, systems and tools is of great importance to every enterprise today.
The project management discipline is not anymore a separate management profession but rather it is a core competency that all executives must have in this Internet Age. It should be a way of life for all professionals.
The art and science of project management will continue to evolve, in particular with more complete project life cycle management, with closer linkage to the organization’s strategic management, with more specialization in life cycle models and individual certification.

Forrester: The ROI of Project Portfolio Management Tools
May 2009
The presentation discusses some of the interesting and innovative capabilities of Enterprise project management.
This Presentation Introduces the features of Microsoft Project Server 2013. it shows the features of Demand Management,
Resource Management, Schedule Management, Financial Management, Time & Task Management, Team Collaboration,
Issues & Risk Management, and Integration Scenarios
Many projects experience failures that result in poor project delivery performance or process capacity/reliability degradations after commissioning
Many studies have shown that 60% to 95% of equipment life cycle costs (TLCC) are a result of decisions made (in CAPEX) prior to handover/start-up and transfer to owners (maintenance or operations) in OPEX
Wouldn’t it make common sense to manage the risk of CAPEX project failures in advance and address equipment life cycle decisions in (CAPEX) rather than after commission handover phase (OPEX)?
Shouldn't owners "invest" in project success "insurance" to help ensure that these multi-billion dollar projects are delivered as they were intended?
Best Practices for Enterprise Performance ManagementPerficient, Inc.
A special webinar for Finance professionals
Looking forward to budget season? For many managers, the budget process is a painful, manual process driven by disconnected Excel spreadsheets that are error-prone, static, and generally non-collaborative. The result is a budget that becomes irrelevant as soon as the new fiscal year begins.
A more nimble response is needed. Budgeting and planning should be a continuous, flexible exercise based on rolling forecasts, and supported by systems that can adapt as the business climate changes.
Join us as we discuss how applying best practices and using an automated Enterprise Performance Management system can help intelligent enterprises reap the benefits of flexible budgeting, accurate forecasting and dynamic planning. By implementing best practices for budgeting and planning, you can:
- Make the budget process less painful
- Replace spreadsheets with web forms
- Automate the budget roll-up process
- Create budgets based on key business drivers
- Link strategic goals to operational decisions
- Integrate financial “actuals” with budget and forecast data
- Provide easy, real-time variance reporting
- Access a single version of the truth for financial information
Presenter Emil Fernandez is General Manager of Perficient's national Enterprise Performance Management practice.

2011 pmo symposium Bridging the Agile-to-PMO Communication GapBrent Barton
Traditional EVM makes no sense in software (and is potentially harmful) because claiming value earned based on intermediate work products--without an assertion of quality--does not provide reasonable forecasts. Agile provides an assertable and inspectable quality. Also, by ordering in terms of highest Business Value and risk considerations along with potentially shippable increments, I believe starts to include notions of value. Still, AgileEVM measures performance against plans (that can be re-baselined every iteration if needed). AgileEVM integrates cost management. Doing it well means not giving up what Agile offers: adaptive planning, quality.

9. Use An Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO)
As the Focal Point for a Community of Practice
• Lead the community of practice
– Develop the standard definitions and document templates used by all
projects
– Develop and deliver internal training for project management roles
– Coach, mentor, facilitate sharing and learning across the enterprise
• Support executive engagement
– Administration of project portfolio
– Aggregate monthly reporting into an enterprise roll-up for executives
• Note: Not a bureaucracy
– Minimal full-time staff
– Designated representatives from a broad cross-section of the organization
9
10. Executive Governance & Engagement Is a Critical
Success Factor
• Executive team must promote and model the enterprise
standards
• Regularly scheduled executive team review of project
portfolio
– Typically an agenda item for a standing meeting
• Executive sponsor for all projects; executive chairs all Steering
Committees
– Size thresholds may apply
10
12. Benefits of Standard Project Management Framework
• Reduces confusion and churn time within a project
• Everyone speaks the same language which results in improved
communication amongst the project team
• Enables a greater amount of time to work on a project rather than
time being used to establish a new framework or tools for each
project
• Provides integrated approvals to ensure ongoing engagement and
support from key stakeholders
• Clear expectation setting and buy in with sponsor and key
stakeholders
• Increases likelihood of delivering stated objectives
