Title: Enhanced Ridge Structure for Improving
Fingerprint Image Quality Based on a
Wavelet Domain
Abstract—Fingerprint image enhancement is one of the mostcrucial steps
in an automated fingerprint identification system. In this paper, an effective
algorithm for fingerprint image quality improvement is proposed. The
algorithm consists of two stages. The first stage is decomposing the input
fingerprint image into four subbands by applying two-dimensional discrete
wavelet transform. At the second stage, the compensated image is
produced by adaptively obtaining the compensation coefficient for each
subband based on the referred Gaussian template. The experimental
results indicated that the compensated image quality was higher than that
of the original image. The proposed algorithm can improve the clarity and
continuity of ridge structures in a fingerprint image. Therefore, it can
achieve higher fingerprint classification rates than related methods can.

With the rapid development of technology, and the popularization of internet, communication is been greatly promoted. The communication is not limited only to information but also includes multimedia information like digital Images. Therefore, the security of digital images has become a very important and practical issue, and appropriate security technology is used for those digital images containing confidential or private information especially. In this paper a novel approach of Image scrambling has been proposed which includes both spatial as well as Transform domain. Experimental results prove that correlation obtained in scrambled images is much lesser then the one obtained in transformed images.

An Image Based PCB Fault Detection and Its Classification

The field of electronics is skyrocketing like never before. The habitat for the electronic components is a printed circuit board (PCB). With the advent of newer and finer technologies it has almost become impossible to detect the faults in a printed circuit board manually which consumes lot of manpower and time. This paper proposes a simple and cost effective method of fault diagnosis in a PCB using image processing techniques. In addition to fault detection and its classification this paper addresses various problems faced during the pre-processing phase. This paper overcomes the drawbacks of the previous works such as improper orientations of the image and size variations of the image. Basically image subtraction algorithm is used for fault detection. The most commonly occurring faults are concentrated in this work and the same are implemented using MATLAB tool.

Vector quantization (VQ) is a powerful technique in the field of digital image compression. The generalized residual codebook is used to remove the distortion in the reconstructed image for further enhancing the quality of the image. Already, Generalized Residual Vector Quantization (GRVQ) was optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Honey Bee Mating Optimization (HBMO). The performance of GRVQ was degraded due to instability in convergence of the PSO algorithm when particle velocity is high and the performance of HBMO algorithm is depended on many parameters which are required to tune for reducing size of codebook. So, in this paper the Artificial Plant Optimization Algorithm (APOA) is used to optimize the parameters used in GRVQ. The Extensive experiment demonstrates that proposed APOA-GRVQ algorithm outperforms than existing algorithm in terms of quantization accuracy and computation accuracy.

Detection of unexpected and emerging new threats has become a necessity for secured internet communication with absolute data confidentiality, integrity and availability. Design and development of such a detection system shall not only be new, accurate and fast but also effective in a dynamic environment encompassing the surrounding network. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed for anomaly detection through modifying the Self – Organizing Map (SOM), by including new neighbourhood updating rules and learning rate dynamically in order to overcome the fixed architecture and random weight vector assignment. The algorithm initially starts with null network and grows with the original data space as initial weight vectors. New nodes are created using distance threshold parameter and their neighbourhood is identified using connection strength. Employing learning rule, the weight vector updation is carried out for neighbourhood nodes. Performance of the new algorithm is evaluated for using standard bench mark dataset. The result is compared with other neural network methods, shows 98% detection rate and 2% false alarm rate.

IMAGE RECOGNITION USING MATLAB SIMULINK BLOCKSET

The world over, image recognition are essential players in promoting quality object recognition especially in emergency and search-rescue operation. In this paper precise image recognition system using Matlab Simulink Blockset to detect selected object from crowd is presented. The process involves extracting object features and then recognizes it considering illumination, direction and pose. A Simulink model has been developed to eliminate the tiny elements from the image, then creating segments for precise object recognition. Furthermore, the simulation explores image recognition from the coloured and gray-scale images through image processing techniques in Simulink environment. The tool employed for computation and simulation is the Matlab image processing blockset. The process comprises morphological operation method which is effective for captured images and video. The results of extensive simulations indicate that this method is suitable for application identifying a person from a crow. The model can be used in emergency and search-rescue operation as well as in medicine, information security, access control, law enforcement, surveillance system, microscopy etc.

This paper is the implementation of fingerprint recognition system in which the matching is done using the Minutiae points. The methodology is the extracting & applying matching procedure on the Minutiae points between the sample fingerprint & fingerprint under question. The main functional blocks of this system follows steps of Image Thinning, Image Segmentation, Minutiae (feature) point Extraction, & Minutiae point Matching. The procedure of Enhanced Thinning included for the purpose of decreasing the size of the memory space used by the fingerprint image database.

The Gabor filter is a very effective tool in visual search approaches and multimedia applications. This filter provides high resolution in time-frequency domains and thus finds use in object recognition, character recognition and pattern recognition applications. Medical Image analysis using image processing algorithms is one of the best ways of diagnosing diseases inside human body. The Gabor wavelets resemble the visual cortex cell operation of mammalian brains and hence are best suited for biological image analysis. A Tonsillitis detection system is proposed here using Gabor filtering approach. This system detects the presence of Tonsillitis from the tonsils images. A suitable VLSI architecture for the implementation of the Gabor filter was modeled in Verilog using Xilinx tool and simulated using the tonsils test images. The proposed system was successful in detecting the presence of Tonsillitis from the diseased tonsils image. The complete system was then synthesized and implemented on FPGA Artix 7. The design was capable of operating at a maximum frequency of 394.563 MHz.

The face-recognition system is among the most effective pattern recognition and image analysis techniques. This technique has met great attention from academic and industrial fields because of its extensive use in detecting the identity of individuals for monitoring systems, security and many other practical fields. In this paper, an effective method of face recognition was proposed. Ten person's faces images were selected from ORL dataset, for each person (42) image with total of (420) images as dataset. Features are extracted using principle component analysis PCA to reduce the dimensionality of the face images. Four models where created, the first one was trained using feed forward back propagation learning (FFBBL) with 40 features, the second was trained using 50 features with FFBBL, the third was trained using the same features but using Elman Neural Network. For each person (24) image used as training set for the neural networks, while the remaining images used as testing set. The results showed that the proposed method was effective and highly accurate. FFBBL give accuracy of (98.33,97.14) with (40, 50) features respectively, while Elman gives (98.33, 98.80) for with (40, 50) features respectively.

Face detection is a very important biometric application in the field of image analysis and computer vision. The basic face detection method is AdaBoost algorithm with a cascading Haar-like feature classifiers based on the framework proposed by Viola and Jones. Real-time multiple-face detection, for instance on CCTVs with high resolution, is a computation-intensive procedure. If the procedure is performed sequentially, an optimal real-time performance will not be achieved. In this paper we propose an architectural design for a parallel and multiple-face detection technique based on Viola and Jones' framework. To do this systematically, we look at the problem from 4 points of view, namely: data processing taxonomy, parallel memory architecture, the model of parallel programming, as well as the design of parallel program. We also build a prototype of the proposed parallel technique and conduct a series of experiments to investigate the gained acceleration.

Biometric passport (e-passport) is to prevent the illegitimate entry of traveler into a particular country and border the use of counterfeit documents by more accurate identification of an individual. The electronic passport, as it is sometimes called, represents a bold proposal in the procedure of two new technologies: cryptography authentication protocols and biometrics (face, fingerprints, palm prints and iris).The goal of the adoption of the electronic passport is not only to accelerate processing at border crossings, but also to increase safety measures. Adaptive fingerprint enhancement method is used to enhance the fingerprint image. The term adaptive implies that parameters of the method are automatically adjusted based on the input fingerprint image. The adaptive fingerprint enhancement method comprises five processing blocks. 1) Pre-processing; 2) global analysis; 3) local analysis; and 4) matched filtering; 4) Image segmentation. In the pre-processing and local analysis blocks, a nonlinear dynamic range adjustment method, SMQT is used. These processing blocks yield an improved and new adaptive fingerprint image processing method. . For assuring security cryptography can be used with enhancement technique for encrypting the enhanced image so as to provide additional protection against fake. For this an image encryption approach using stream ciphers based on non linear filter generator along with AES encryption is used here. In this work a novel image encryption scheme using stream cipher algorithm based on nonlinear filter generator is considered. In this work a novel image encryption scheme is proposed based on stream cipher algorithm using pseudorandom generator with filtering function. This algorithm makes it possible to cipher and decipher images by guaranteeing a maximum security. The proposed cryptosystem is based on the use the linear feedback shift register (LFSR) with large secret key filtered by resilient function whose resiliency order, algebraic degree and nonlinearity attain Siegenthaler’s and Sarkar, al.’s bounds. This scheme is simple and highly efficient.

Fingerprint image enhancement is the key process in IAFIS systems. In order to reduce false identification ratio and to supply good fingerprint images to IAFIS systems for exact identification, fingerprint images are generally enhanced. A filtering process tries to filter out the noise from the input image, and emphasize on low, high and directional spatial frequency components of an image. This paper presents an experimental summary of enhancing fingerprint images using Gabor filters. Frequency, width and window domain filter ranges are fixed. The orientation angle alone is modified by 0 radians, π/2, π/4 and 3π/4 radians. The experimental results show that Gabor filter enhances the fingerprint image in a better way than other filtering methods and extracts features.

Contour evolution method for precise boundary delineation of medical images

Image segmentation is an important precursor to boundary delineation of medical images. One of the major challenges in applying automatic image segmentation in medical images is the imperfection in the imaging process which can result in inconsistent contrast and brightness levels, and low image sharpness and vanishing boundaries. Although recent advances in deep learning produce vast improvements in the quality of image segmentation, the accuracy of segmentation around object boundaries still requires improvement. We developed a new approach to contour evolution that is more intuitive but shares some common principles with the active contour model method. The method uses two concepts, namely the boundary grid and sparse boundary representation, as an implicit and explicit representation of the boundary points. We tested our method using lumbar spine MRI images of 515 patients. The experiment results show that our method performs up to 10.2 times faster and more flexible than the geodesic active contours method. Using BF-score contour-based metric, we show that our method improves the boundary accuracy from 74% to 84% as opposed to 63% by the latter method.

Image type water meter character recognition based on embedded dsp

In the paper, we combined DSP processor with image processing algorithm and studied the method of water meter character recognition. We collected water meter image through camera at a fixed angle, and the projection method is used to recognize those digital images. The experiment results show that the method can recognize the meter characters accurately and artificial meter reading is replaced by automatic digital recognition, which improves working efficiency.

Handwritten text and character recognition is a challenging task compared to recognition of handwritten numeral and computer printed text due to its large variety in nature. As practical pattern recognition problems uses bulk data and there is a one step self sufficient deterministic theory to resolve recognition problems by calculating inverse of Hessian Matrix and multiplication the inverse matrix it with first order local gradient vector. But in practical cases when neural network is large the inversing operation of the Hessian Matrix is not manageable and another condition must be satisfied the Hessian Matrix must be positive definite which may not be satishfied. In these cases some repetitive recursive models are taken. In several research work in past decade it was experienced that Neural Network based approach provides most reliable performance in handwritten character and text recognition but recognition performance depends upon some important factors like no of training samples, reliable features and no of features per character, training time, variety of handwriting etc. Important features from different types of handwriting are collected and are fed to the neural network for training. It is true that more no of features increases test efficiency but it takes longer time to converge the error curve. To reduce this training time effectively proper train algorithm should be chosen so that the system provides best train and test efficiency in least possible time that is to provide the system fastest intelligence. We have used several second order conjugate gradient algorithms for training of neural network. We have found that Scaled Conjugate Gradient Algorithm , a second order training algorithm as the fastest for training of neural network for our application. Training using SCG takes minimum time with excellent test efficiency. A scanned handwritten text is taken as input and character level segmentation is done. Some important and reliable features from each character are extracted and used as input to a neural network for training. When the error level reaches into a satisfactory level (10 -12 ) weights are accepted for testing a test script. Finally a lexicon matching algorithm solves the minor misclassification problems.

Image enhancement has a primitive role in the vision-based applications. It involves the processing of the input image by boosting its visualization for various applications. The primary objective is to filter the unwanted noises, clutters, sharpening or blur. The characteristics such as resolution and contrast are constructively altered to obtain an outcome of an enhanced image in the bio-medical field. The paper highlights the different techniques proposed for the digital enhancement of images. After surveying these methods that utilize Multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC), it is concluded that these methodologies have little accuracy and hence none of them are efficiently capable of enhancing the digital biomedical images.

A foggy environment may cause digitally captured images to appear blurry, dim, or low in contrast. This will impact computer vision systems that rely on image information. With the need for real-time image information, such as a plate number recognition system, a simple yet effective image enhancement algorithm using a hardware implementation is very much needed to fulfil the need. To improve images that suffer from low exposure and hazy, the hardware implementations are usually based on complex algorithms. Hence, the aim of this paper is to propose a less complex enhancement algorithm for hardware implementation that is able to improve the quality of such images. The proposed method simply combines brightness and contrast manipulation to enhance the image. In order to see the performance of the proposed method, a total of 100 vehicle registration number images were collected, enhanced, and evaluated. The evaluation results were compared to two other enhancement methods quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitative evaluation is done by evaluating the output image using peak signal-to-noise ratio and mean-square error evaluation metrics, while a survey is done to evaluate the output image qualitatively. Based on the quantitative evaluation results, our proposed method outperforms the other two enhancement methods.

Sparse Sampling in Digital Image Processing

A common goal of the engineering field of signal processing is to reconstruct a signal from a series of sampling measurements. In general, this task is impossible because there is no way to reconstruct a signal during the times that the signal is not measured. Nevertheless, with prior knowledge or assumptions about the signal, it turns out to be possible to perfectly reconstruct a signal from a series of measurements. Over time, engineers have improved their understanding of which assumptions are practical and how they can be generalized. An early breakthrough in signal processing was the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem. It states that if the signal's highest frequency is less than half of the sampling rate, then the signal can be reconstructed perfectly. The main idea is that with prior knowledge about constraints on the signal’s frequencies, fewer samples are needed to reconstruct the signal. Sparse sampling (also known as, compressive sampling, or compressed sampling) is a signal processing technique for efficiently acquiring and reconstructing a signal, by finding solutions tounder determined linear systems. This is based on the principle that, through optimization, the sparsity of a signal can be exploited to recover it from far fewer samples than required by the Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem. There are two conditions under which recovery is possible.[1] The first one is sparsity which requires the signal to be sparse in some domain. The second one is incoherence which is applied through the isometric property which is sufficient for sparse signals Possibility of compressed data acquisition protocols which directly acquire just the important information Sparse sampling (CS) is a fast growing area of research. It neglects the extravagant acquisition process by measuring lesser values to reconstruct the image or signal. Sparse sampling is adopted successfully in various fields of image processing and proved its efficiency. Some of the image processing applications like face recognition, video encoding, Image encryption and reconstruction are presented here.

Imaging and Image sensors is a field that is continuously evolving. There are new products coming into the market every day. Some of these have very severe Size, Weight and Power constraints whereas other devices have to handle very high computational loads. Some require both these conditions to be met simultaneously. Current imaging architectures and digital image processing solutions will not be able to meet these ever increasing demands. There is a need to develop novel imaging architectures and image processing solutions to address these requirements. In this work we propose analog signal processing as a solution to this problem. The analog processor is not suggested as a replacement to a digital processor but it will be used as an augmentation device which works in parallel with the digital processor, making the system faster and more efficient. In order to show the merits of analog processing two stereo correspondence algorithms are implemented. This paper describes a methodology that aims to find and diagnosing faults in transmission lines exploitation image process technique. The image processing techniques have been widely used to solve problem in process of all areas. In this paper, the methodology conjointly uses a digital image process Wavelet Shrinkage function to fault identification and diagnosis. In other words, the purpose is to extract the faulty image from the source with the separation and the co-ordinates of the transmission lines. The segmentation objective is the image division its set of parts and objects, which distinguishes it among others in the scene, are the key to have an improved result in identification of faults.The experimental results indicate that the proposed method provides promising results and is advantageous both in terms of PSNR and in visual quality.

CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems! Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected. R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production. An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred. R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance. Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production. It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacks

This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations. When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10 and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating adversary training.

Logic Mind Technologies Vijayangar (Near Maruthi Medicals), Bangalore-40 Ph: 8123668124 // 8123668066 Title: Enhanced Ridge Structure for Improving Fingerprint Image Quality Based on a Wavelet Domain Abstract—Fingerprint image enhancement is one of the mostcrucial steps in an automated fingerprint identification system. In this paper, an effective algorithm for fingerprint image quality improvement is proposed. The algorithm consists of two stages. The first stage is decomposing the input fingerprint image into four subbands by applying two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform. At the second stage, the compensated image is produced by adaptively obtaining the compensation coefficient for each subband based on the referred Gaussian template. The experimental results indicated that the compensated image quality was higher than that of the original image. The proposed algorithm can improve the clarity and continuity of ridge structures in a fingerprint image. Therefore, it can achieve higher fingerprint classification rates than related methods can.
