Title:Haze Removal for a Single
RemoteSensing Image Based on Deformed
Haze Imaging Model
Abstract—The contrast of remote sensing images captured in haze condition is
poor, which influences their interpretation. In this letter, a novel dehazing
algorithm based on the deformed haze imaging model is proposed. First, the model
is deformed by introducing a translation term. Second, the atmospheric light and
transmission are estimated according to the new model combined with dark
channel prior. Lastly, the haze is successfully removed from remote sensing
images using the proposed estimation algorithm. The estimated transmission is
insensitive to the texture of ground objects, and the dehazing effect for nonuniform
haze is more satisfactory than the compared method. Moreover, our approach can
be used for general haze removal through adjusting the translation term.
Experimental results reveal that the proposed method can recover the real scene
clearly from haze remote sensing images along with the advantage of good color
consistency.

This paper analyzed different haze removal methods. Haze causes trouble to many computer graphics/vision applications as it reduces the visibility of the scene. Air light and attenuation are two basic phenomena of haze. air light enhances the whiteness in scene and on the other hand attenuation reduces the contrast. the colour and contrast of the scene is recovered by haze removal techniques. many applications like object detection , surveillance, consumer electronics etc. apply haze removal techniques. this paper widely focuses on the methods of effectively eliminating haze from digital images. it also indicates the demerits of current techniques.

The single image dehazing based on efficient transmission estimation

AVVENIRE TECHNOLOGIES

We propose a novel haze imaging model for single image haze removal. Haze imaging model is formulated using dark channel prior (DCP), scene radiance, intensity, atmospheric light and transmission medium. The dark channel prior is based on the statistics of outdoor haze-free images. We find that, in most of the local regions which do not cover the sky, some pixels (called dark pixels) very often have very low intensity in at least one color (RGB) channel. In hazy images, the intensity of these dark pixels in that channel is mainly contributed by the air light. Therefore, these dark pixels can directly provide an accurate estimation of the haze transmission. Combining a haze imaging model and a interpolation method, we can recover a high-quality haze free image and produce a good depth map.

Background subtraction is typically one of the first steps carried out in motion detection using static video cameras. This paper presents a novel method for background removal that processes only some pixels of each image. Some regions of interest of the objects in the image or frame are located with the help of edge detector. Once the region is detected only that area will be segmented instead of processing the whole image. This method achieves a significant reduction in computation time that can be used for subsequent image analysis. In this paper we detect the foreground object with the help of edge detector and combine the Fuzzy c-means clustering algorithm to segment the object by means of subtracting the current frame from the previous frame, the accurate background is identified.

Past research has found that compressive measurements save data storage and bandwidth usage. However, it is also observed that compressive measurements are difficult to be used directly for target tracking and classification without pixel reconstruction. This is because the Gaussian random matrix destroys the target location information in the original video frames. This paper summarizes our research effort on target tracking and classification directly in the compressive measurement domain. We focus on one type of compressive measurement using pixel subsampling. That is, the compressive measurements are obtained by randomly subsample the original pixels in video frames. Even in such special setting, conventional trackers still do not work well. We propose a deep learning approach that integrates YOLO (You Only Look Once) and ResNet (residual network) for target tracking and classification in low quality videos. YOLO is for multiple target detection and ResNet is for target classification. Extensive experiments using optical and mid-wave infrared (MWIR) videos in the SENSIAC database demonstrated the efficacy of the proposed approach.

Abstract We present a pixel recursive super resolution model that synthesizes realistic details into images while enhancing their resolution. A low resolution image may correspond to multiple plausible high resolution images, thus modeling the super resolution process with a pixel independent conditional model often results in averaging different details– hence blurry edges. By contrast, our model is able to represent a multimodal conditional distribution by properly modeling the statistical dependencies among the high resolution image pixels, conditioned on a low resolution input. Recent advancement in sensor technology allows very high spatial resolution along with multiple spectral bands. There are many studies, which highlight that Object Based Image Analysis(OBIA) is more accurate than pixel-based classification for high resolution(< 2m) imagery. Image segmentation is a crucial step for OBIA and it is a very formidable task to estimate optimal parameters for segmentation as it does not have any unique solution. In this paper, we have studied different segmentation algorithms (both mono-scale and multi-scale) for different terrain categories and showed how the segmented output depends on upon various parameters. Later, we have introduced a novel method to estimate optimal segmentation parameters. The main objectives of this study are to highlight the effectiveness of presently available segmentation techniques on very high-resolution satellite data and to automate segmentation process. Pre-estimation of segmentation parameter is more practical and efficient in OBIA. Assessment of segmentation algorithms and estimation of segmentation parameters are examined based on the very high-resolution multi-spectral WorldView-3(0.3m, PAN sharpened) data.

Many commercially available radar systems offer a range of filter options but the problem of clutter rejection for target detection is still present in a number of situations. Rejection of clutter and detection of targets from radar captured data is a challenging task. Raw data captured by radar are not always scaled. A normalization technique has been proposed which transforms the radar captured data into 8 bit. As 8 bit data is easy to analyze and visualize. A modification on Fuzzy c-means has been done by developing Fuzzy Gustafson–Kessel (FGK) algorithm and the result shows robustness of this proposed method.

Abstract This paper presents a new methodology for the edge detection of complex radar images. The approach includes the edge improvisation algorithm and followed with edge detection. The nature of complex radar images made edge enhancement part before the edge detection as the data is highly heterogeneous in nature. Thus, the use of discrete wavelet transform in the edge improvisation algorithm is justified. Then region based active contour model is used as edge detection algorithm. The paper proposes the distribution fitting energy with a level set function and neighborhood means and variances as variables. The performance is tested by applying it on different images and the results are been analyzed. Keywords: Edge detection, Edge improvisation, Synthetic Aperture radar (SAR), wavelet transforms.

Atmospheric Correction of Remotely Sensed Images in Spatial and Transform Domain

Remotely sensed data is an effective source of information for monitoring changes in land use and land cover. However remotely sensed images are often degraded due to atmospheric effects or physical limitations. Atmospheric correction minimizes or removes the atmospheric influences that are added to the pure signal of target and to extract more accurate information. The atmospheric correction is often considered critical pre-processing step to achieve full spectral information from every pixel especially with hyperspectral and multispectral data. In this paper, multispectral atmospheric correction approaches that require no ancillary data are presented in spatial domain and transform domain. We propose atmospheric correction using linear regression model based on the wavelet transform and Fourier transform. They are tested on Landsat image consisting of 7 multispectral bands and their performance is evaluated using visual and statistical measures. The application of the atmospheric correction methods for vegetation analyses using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index is also presented in this paper.

Single Image Fog Removal Based on Fusion Strategy

Images of outdoor scenes are degraded by absorption and scattering by the suspended particles and water droplets in the atmosphere. The light coming from a scene towards the camera is attenuated by fog and is blended with the airlight which adds more whiteness into the scene. Fog removal is highly desired in computer vision applications. Removing fog from images can significantly increase the visibility of the scene and is more visually pleasing. In this paper, we propose a method that can handle both homogeneous and heterogeneous fog which has been tested on several types of synthetic and real images. We formulate the restoration problem based on fusion strategy that combines two derived images from a single foggy image. One of the images is derived using contrast based method while the other is derived using statistical based approach. These derived images are then weighted by a specific weight map to restore the image. We have performed a qualitative and quantitative evaluation on 60 images. We use the mean square error and peak signal-to-noise ratio as the performance metrics to compare our technique with the state-of-the-art algorithms. The proposed technique is simple and shows comparable or even slightly better results with the state-of-the-art algorithms used for defogging a single image.

AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION OF CLOUD COVER REGIONS USING SURF

Weather forecasting has become an indispensable application to predict the state of the atmosphere for a future time based on cloud cover identification. But it generally needs the experience of a well-trained meteorologist. In this paper, a novel method is proposed for automatic cloud cover estimation, typical to Indian Territory Speeded Up Robust Feature Transform(SURF) is applied on the satellite images to obtain the affine corrected images. The extracted cloud regions from the affine corrected images based on Otsu threshold are superimposed on the artistic grids representing latitude and longitude over India. The segmented cloud and grid composition drive a look up table mechanism to identify the cloud cover regions. Owing to its simplicity, the proposed method processes the test images faster and provides accurate segmentation for cloud cover regions.

Cepstral filtering technique is applied on an interlaced image, the pattern similar to that which is found in layer IV of Primate Visual Cortex. It involves Power spectrum in computation, which is square of absolute of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), is a complicated and hardware unfriendly. We propose an algorithm in which Gabor filters, instead of Power Spectrum, are applied to an interlaced image in the Cepstral algorithm. This scheme makes it hardware friendly as it gives the flexibility of working with modules which can be imitated in hardware. Building a FFT module is a tough task in analog circuit but determining Gabor energy, an alternative to it, can be achieved by elementary circuits. The Phase, Energy Models and other methods, use multi-lambda Gabor filters to compute disparity. The proposed method uses sum of absolute difference to choose a single Gabor filter of appropriate lambda that fits to find the disparity. The algorithm inherits the quality of both Gabor filter and Ocular Dominance Pattern and hence a biologically inspired and suitable for hardware realization. The proposed algorithm has been implemented on the test data image. A hardware scheme has also been proposed that can be used to estimate disparity and the idea can be extended in building complex modules that can perform real time - real image operations with a handful of resources as compared to employing complex digital FPGAs and CPLDs.

An algorithm to quantify the swelling by reconstructing 3D model of the face with stereo images is presented. We analyzed the primary problems in computational stereo, which include correspondence and depth calculation. Work has been carried out to determine suitable methods for depth estimation and standardizing volume estimations. Finally we designed software for reconstructing 3D images from 2D stereo images, which was built on Matlab and Visual C++. Utilizing techniques from multi-view geometry, a 3D model of the face was constructed and refined. An explicit analysis of the stereo disparity calculation methods and filter elimination disparity estimation for increasing reliability of the disparity map was used. Minimizing variability in position by using more precise positioning techniques and resources will increase the accuracy of this technique and is a focus for future work

In this paper we present a comparative study on fusion of visual and thermal images using different wavelet transformations. Here, coefficients of discrete wavelet transforms from both visual and thermal images are computed separately and combined. Next, inverse discrete wavelet transformation is taken in order to obtain fused face image. Both Haar and Daubechies (db2) wavelet transforms have been used to compare recognition results. For experiments IRIS Thermal/Visual Face Database was used. Experimental results using Haar and Daubechies wavelets show that the performance of the approach presented here achieves maximum success rate of 100% in many cases.

Robust Algorithm for Discrete Tomography with Gray Value Estimation

In this paper, we present a novel iterative reconstruction algorithm for discrete tomography (DT) named total variation regularized discrete algebraic reconstruction technique (TVR-DART) with automated gray value estimation. This algorithm is more robust and automated than the original DART algorithm, and is aimed at imaging of objects consisting of only a few different material compositions, each corresponding to a different gray value in the reconstruction. By exploiting two types of prior knowledge of the scanned object simultaneously, TVR-DART solves the discrete reconstruction problem within an optimization framework inspired by compressive sensing to steer the current reconstruction toward a solution with the specified number of discrete gray values. The gray values and the thresholds are estimated as the reconstruction improves through iterations. Extensive experiments from simulated data, experimental μCT, and electron tomography data sets show that TVR-DART is capable of providing more accurate reconstruction than existing algorithms under noisy conditions from a small number of projection images and/or from a small angular range. Furthermore, the new algorithm requires less effort on parameter tuning compared with the original DART algorithm. With TVR-DART, we aim to provide the tomography society with an easy-to-use and robust algorithm for DT.

Shadows create significant problems in many computer vision and image analysis tasks such as object recognition, object tracking, and image segmentation. For a machine, it is very difficult to distinguish between a shadow and a real object. As a result, an object recognition system may incorrectly recognize a shadow region as an object. So the detection of shadows in images will enhance the performance of many machine vision tasks. This paper implements a shadow detection method, which is based on Tricolor Attenuation Model (TAM) enhanced with adaptive histogram equalization (AHE). TAM uses the concept of intensity attenuation of pixels in the shadow region which is different for the three color channels. It originates from the idea that if the minimum attenuated color channel is subtracted from the maximum attenuated one, the shadow areas become darker in the resulting TAM image. But this resulting image will be of low contrast due to the high correlation among R, G and B color channels. In order to enhance the contrast, adaptive histogram equalization is used. The incorporation of AHE significantly improved the quality of the detected shadow region.

The SAR and SAS images are perturbed by a multiplicative noise called speckle, due to the coherent nature of the scattering phenomenon. If the background of an image is uneven, the fixed thresholding technique is not suitable to segment an image using adaptive thresholding method. In this paper a new Adaptive thresholding method is proposed to reduce the speckle noise, preserving the structural features and textural information of Sector Scan SONAR (Sound Navigation and Ranging) images. Due to the massive proliferation of SONAR images, the proposed method is very appealing in under water environment applications. In fact it is a pre- treatment required in any SONAR images analysis system. The results obtained from the proposed method were compared quantitatively and qualitatively with the results obtained from the other speckle reduction techniques and demonstrate its higher performance for speckle reduction in the SONAR images.

Logic Mind Technologies Vijayangar (Near Maruthi Medicals), Bangalore-40 Ph: 8123668124 // 8123668066 Title:Haze Removal for a Single RemoteSensing Image Based on Deformed Haze Imaging Model Abstract—The contrast of remote sensing images captured in haze condition is poor, which influences their interpretation. In this letter, a novel dehazing algorithm based on the deformed haze imaging model is proposed. First, the model is deformed by introducing a translation term. Second, the atmospheric light and transmission are estimated according to the new model combined with dark channel prior. Lastly, the haze is successfully removed from remote sensing images using the proposed estimation algorithm. The estimated transmission is insensitive to the texture of ground objects, and the dehazing effect for nonuniform haze is more satisfactory than the compared method. Moreover, our approach can be used for general haze removal through adjusting the translation term. Experimental results reveal that the proposed method can recover the real scene clearly from haze remote sensing images along with the advantage of good color consistency.
