Propaganda And Atrocity Propaganda
World War One marked a watershed in the modern development of propaganda. Propaganda assumed
an ever increasing role in shaping mass opinion, a role that has had a lasting influence on the course of
twentieth century politics. Propaganda is potentially an immensely revealing source for examining the
state society relationship, for it is, in essence, a set of messages from the state to the society. It is based
upon and seeks to modify certain assumptions about popular behaviour. It was not until Germany
invaded Belgium, that atrocity propaganda emerged as a major force. Atrocity propaganda focused on
the most violent acts committed by the German and Austro Hungarian armies, emphasising their
barbarity and providing justification for the conflict. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the Germans were looked upon as a country that could only be described as a corrupt
invader in the war from the start. The German army engaged in several atrocities against the Belgium
population during the course of the war. These atrocities were seen as an organised terror, an attack to
intimidate the civilian population, to terrorise the inhabitants of recently occupied areas, to intimidate
the politicians and most importantly, to intimidate the Belgian army. The period after 5 August 1914
and the months to follow were fierce, and the dynamic of violence was enduring. There were multiple
cases of civilians being used as leverage to induce compliance or to stymie resistance often as human
shields marched in front of German units, or as hostages to ensure good behaviour. At Liège, several
influential citizens were taken hostage and threatened with death if the German troops, charged with
taking nearby forts, came under attack. Civilians were executed en masse, as the invasion force
advanced on its first obstacle, the ring of forts around Liège . This was a terrifying time for Belgians,
as the Germany army was ten times the size of theirs. The anxiety was also apparent in proclamations
issued throughout Belgian towns. One notice, issued at Hasselt on 17 August 1914 by the
Burgomaster, warned the villagers in no uncertain terms to abstain from ... all acts of hostility which
might bring

Central Valley Air Pollution Essay
Over the past few years, air pollution has been one of the major problems encountered in the
California central valley. The Central Valley, also called as the Great Valley of California, is comprised
of approximately about 20, 000 square miles. It is consisted of two parts, the northern portion is called
the Sacramento Valley and the southern portion is called the San Joaquin Valley (U.S.). There are
several factors that could have contributed to the amount of air pollution in the air, some of which
humans have the ability to prevent and mitigate. Many of the activities that we do in our daily lives
could result to the development of air pollution without us even knowing it. In this paper, we will
discuss what air pollution is and gain a better understanding of what air pollution is, determine its
causes, economic, social, and health impacts, and create solutions that would address the problem of
air pollution in the California central valley. In definition, air pollution is the appearance air pollutant
in the air which worsens the quality of air and imperil the health of living organisms, natural
resources, and structures and properties (Park, 2016). The sources of air pollution could come from
natural sources such as forest fires, and volcanic eruptions, moreover, it could also come from
substances that are emitted into the air that resulted from human activities. Human activities could
either be accidental or intentional. Some of the accidental human activities

History Of South Carolina State University
Students in high school have a very difficult time depicting the college or university of their choice
whether there are going to attend a Historical Black College or University, Predominantly White
School? As a future educator, I made a commendable choice to attend an HBCU because they are still
needed today for successful individuals. Although some African Americans forget the journey that our
ancestors had to go through so we as African American can have a better education from an accredited
college or university. During the time period of slavery many African Americans could not attend a
PWI school because the color of their skin. In addition, that why I think HBCU s are still needed

Stanley Garage Door Opener Research Paper
If you own a Stanley garage door opener, then your Stanley garage door opener manual should always
be safely stored. Unfortunately, after many years in the residential garage opener business, the
companies that took over manufacturing Stanley garage door openers in 1997 have gone out of
business. This has put the many homeowners of this brand of garage door openers in a quandary, since
replacement parts and instructions for troubleshooting simple problems are getting increasingly more
difficult to come by. If your garage door opener is experiencing problems, you should first try to
unearth your owners manual. Chances are it will have fairly detailed instructions on the repair and
upkeep of your garage door opener, or at least a good indication of where to find such information.
For instance a Stanley garage door opener instruction manual will be able to assist you greatly with
Stanley garage door opener troubleshooting and should be your first source of information. If you can

Types of Friends Essay
There are a lot of important things in life. However, one of the most important things for people to
survive in this world is friendship. Without friendship, people can die of loneliness. What do you think
about your friends? Do you like your friends? There are a lot of different types of friends. There are
friends that I like and some friends with whom I do not get along. Friends with positive characteristics
such as reliable, trustworthy and faithful whom I usually get along with are the one that tend to have

future. I have a friend that is really confident that when he performed for a speech competition at
school, he can speak fluently without any hesitation that made him the winner of the competition. We
can learn a lot from this kind of person. I learn that correct proportion of something, even the thing we

confident we can be while with friends and when the confidence is really needed. Being a competitive

Health And Safety Report Detailing John Schmidt s Injury
In reviewing the health and safety report detailing John Schmidt s injury on June 7th, 2015, I concur
with the report s findings that the cause of Mr. Schmidt s was a poorly designed safety guard on the
table saw. Table saw accidents are life altering, agonizing for the employee involved, and extremely
costly. In fact, the statistics of injuries and cost of those injuries are daunting: ...from 1990 2007, an
estimated 565,670 non occupational table saw related injuries...treated in U.S. emergency rooms (
New National Study Finds Table Saw Related Injuries Have Remained Consistently High: Nationwide
Children s Hospital , 2010). Additionally, Table saw injuries cost the United States approximately $2
billion every year ( NCL Fact Sheet on Saw Safety National Consumers League , n.d.). Our
production shop has been fortunate in being able to report no table saw injuries prior to Mr. Schmidt s
accident. However, the importance of this one issue alone is exceedingly weighty. This one accident
could cost us our hardworking employees good health as well as millions of dollars in both correcting
this deficiency and medical expenses. One of our production shop employees, John Schmidt, was
seriously injured while using a table saw on June 7th, 2015. Mr. Schmidt claims that he followed all
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Further, he alleges we were
negligent in not providing assurance table saw was as safe as possible to use. On the other

Animal Experimentation And The Human Understanding Of...
Any knowledge obtained, or currently being obtained, through the use of animals is beneficial to
furthering the human understanding of medicine (Greek et al. 15). Throughout history, animal
experimentation has been a key component in understanding the fundamentals of human life. Kay
Peggs argues that virtually every major medical advance of the last century is due, in part, to research
with animals (624). Before recent times, scientists could easily dissect animals strictly for exploration
and curiosity (Greek et al. 15). The knowledge gained from animal experimentation has helped
scientists get desired results without causing direct harm to humans. Without animal experimentation,
medicine and education would be in the dark ages.
In today s times, using animals for medical research and education is a highly controversial issue.
Some believe that it is not justifiable to use animals to serve as human models. They argue that
humans are the best models for human disease and treatment efficacy, not animals. However, humans
cannot be test subjects for the benefit of society without volunteering to participate and fully
understanding the question being researched. This is for all human beings, including prisoners, the
mentally impaired, and unwanted children (Rollin 5). Also, according to the USDA, the first
requirement for a new medical drug or vaccine to be considered for a clinical trial is that nonhuman
animal subjects were used during the development and testing

After reading the material I believe the reason church planting is not the center of some churches
today is they fact that they are spending all their time and resources on trying to keep a older church
alive that is failing and unsuccessful. The other reason I think church planting has taken a back seat is
because many people believe that there are enough churches already in the area and that there is no
need for a new church plant. Which is not always the case because their may be a certain group of
people you may be able to reach through a plant that would never consider attending a traditional
church.

David Persuasive Speech
Many years ago during biblical times the Philistine lined up to fight Israel. A man standing over nine
feet tall dressed in full armor came out of his camp every day to find a challenger. For forty days there
was no one willing to challenge Goliath until David volunteered. David was a young teenager who
wasn t even a part of the war, but was delivering stuff to his brothers, so it took some convincing to
the king to let him be the challenger. In 1 Samuel 17 more of the story is told. 45 David said to the
Philistine, You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name
of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the

The statue of David is looking over his left shoulder with a very intense stare look in his eyes. He is

Symbols In A Rose For Emily
The literary works in the short story ¨A Rose For Emily¨ by American Author William Faulkner is an
influential work because of the symbols, motifs, and theme that are expressed throughout the story,
which are based upon love and relationships. Faulkner portrays the story in third person limited which
allows us to know the thoughts and feelings of a single charcter. The narrator is never identified
throughout the story, but when we examine the tone we can understand there is this we person, who
changes his/her mind about Miss Emily at certain points in the narration. A symbol is something used
for or regarded as representing something else. One instance of symbolism in this short story is in the
title itself. The rose is a symbol of love in which case Homer is the rose or love for Emily. Emily s
father wanted the best for her, so he thought that no one was good enough. When her father passed
away she met Homer and fell head over heels in love with him. ... Show more content on

One motif that we see throughout the story is intense gazing of Emily by the narrator and the
townspeople of Jefferson. People are always watching . A paragraph in the story states She will marry
him. Then we said, She will persuade him yet, because Homer himself had remarked he liked men,
and it was known that he drank with the younger men in the Elks Club that he was not a marrying
man. Later we said, Poor Emily behind the jalousies as they passed on Sunday afternoon in the
glittering buggy, Miss Emily with her head high and Homer Barron with his hat cocked and a cigar in
his teeth, reins and whip in a yellow glove. (Rose) The townspeople always watched Emily because
she was such a mystery. They saw that Emily loved Homer but it didn t seem like the feelings were
mutual. It seems as if the people wanted to step in on their relationship, but Miss Emily wasn t going

Power And Pleasure Of The Media
Power and Pleasure in the Media.
By Andrew Clements 10185344
Figure 1.
Media plays a significant role in controlling societies thoughts, actions and beliefs through complex
messages and conventions. From the moment we re able to see, think and understand, we interpret
these messages and conventions instinctively. These in tern quite literally shape the way we think,
view or perceive stereotypes or in other words contextualize us. An example of this is evident in
Figure 1, which depicts two infant males, one Caucasian and one with an assumed African heritage.

Secondly, the signified, which refers to the concepts, assumptions and meanings that we, as the
viewer, associates with the signifier. Polysemy is a term to discuss the semiotic theory used during the
analysis. When applied, the signifier and the signified combined create a connotative meaning.
Connotation and Denotation are two principal methods of describing the meanings of words.
Connotation refers to the wide array of positive and negative associations that most words naturally
carry with them, whereas denotation is the precise, literal definition of a word that might be found in a
dictionary. (Anon, 2017)
Culture refers to groups of people who share specific values, beliefs and practices. Different cultural
groups become apparent when they understand the same sign to have different meanings. (Gaines,
2011). These ideologies create the ideals, values and beliefs that shape and govern the way society
thinks, acts and behaves. An example of this is Veganism. Veganism is the practice of abstaining from
the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the
commodity status of animals, therefore, Veganism is referred to as an ideology. This is used around
the media arena, to maintain dominant beliefs, construct ideas and trends to be a natural thought
process throughout society. Ideology is utilised in the media in an attempt to

Stetson. Tonyaa Weathersbee wrote an article in the Florida Times Union titled Mass Transit Is a
Crucial Issue for Working People without Cars where she says The mass transportation market its
riders and potential riders comprises two broad groups, captive riders and choice riders. Captive
transit riders must rely on mass transit; they do not have an alternative way to travel for some or all of
their trips because an automobile is required but none is available or because they cannot drive or
cannot afford an automobile. Choice riders use transit if it provides service superior to that of their
principal alternative, usually the automobile. Captive and choice riders have different needs and
preferences, and different services can be designed to accommodate them. The captive riders are the
ones that are disadvantaged and thereby lacking in transportation choices and are the ones in Deland
that are most in need of an additional bus route. Getting a bus line to run near these neighborhoods is
crucial as presently for many the nearest bus stop is a one mile or more walk through an area with a
high crime rate. While many of these neighborhoods do have sidewalks, if the weather is inclement or
a person gets off the bus after dark, they still must walk one mile, perhaps further from the nearest bus
stop, depending upon the location of home. That is not

Final Paper

Gandhi s Life and Legacy Throughout the course of history there have been many influential leaders
that have stressed the use of non violence and civil disobedience including Mohandas Karamchand
Gandhi. Gandhi was a very influential and inspiring leader that was able to lead billions of people. He
was willing to give up everything for what he believed in even though he knew that his actions could
possibly lead to imprisonment and other legal consequences. Gandhi s bravery and perseverance led to
changes that affected and influenced the whole world and brought about positive change for people
whose voices would have went unheard. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on October 2,
1869, in Porbandar, Kathiawar, India. Gandhi s father was the chief minister in different parts of India
and his mother was very devoted to religion. Gandhi followed in both of his parents footsteps by
devoting himself to religion and later pursuing an education and career in the law field. Also, at the
age of thirteen he had an arranged marriage to a girl named Kasturba Makanji. After his marriage,
Gandhi rebelled against his mother and stopped practicing Jainism and worshipping the Hindu God
Vishnu. Jainism is an ancient religion in India that is based on morals and it stresses non violence,
fasting, meditation and vegetarianism (Mahatma Gandhi). Later in life, Gandhi traveled to London,

Secession In Texas
In August 1859, the citizens of Texas elected Sam Houston as their governor. The result of this
election placed the Unionists in control of the state, but in just eighteen months individual events or
circumstances allowed the secessionists to regain power. Following the 1859 Gubernatorial election,
the secessionists sought to restore political and social power in Texas over the Unionists. Texas one
party system continued to support the other Southern states ideologically in dealing with slavery
despite cultural and economic differences between the Upper and Lower South. Sam Houston s
continued popularity among Texas citizens temporarily outweighed his support for Unionist views, but
the Southern Democratic propaganda machine eventually led to his defeat. Texas became the only
state to bring a vote of secession to the people of the state and historians continue to debate the voting
returns from the referendum on the Ordinance of Secession, 1861. The secession movement in Texas
became a hotly debated topic as past, and present historians determined how the secessionists obtained

support for slavery and a complete aversion towards the black Republican Party became readily

Artists Are Culturally Creators
In my opinion, artists are simply creators. Artists create things that are reflections of their psyche,
society at large, or anything that comes to mind. Given that the inspiration for an artist s work can be
so varied and diverse, I think it s hard to say that artists have a social responsibility given that some
artists work don t necessarily convey or reflect the feelings or ideals of the greater bulk of society.
Artistic expression is important and as soon as society begins to police or restrict the ability of an
artist to express his or herself, I think we re moving into dangerous territory as a culture. With that
said, I don t think artists should be held accountable for the work they produce. Artists should be

Analysis Of Nelson Goodman s New Riddle Of Induction
Throughout this paper, I will simplify and explain Nelson Goodman s take with the problem of
induction. Nevertheless, a concept known as PUN, if proven true, has been asserted by many
philosophers to be the answer to such problem. However, this is where I will introduce and clarify
upon Goodman s New Riddle of Induction and its claim that PUN by itself is not enough to act as a
solution for this case. For starters, the problem is not that we know for sure that something is going to
happen, that is the case for deductive arguments. Instead, the problem in simple terms is that it is not
justifiable like that of deductive arguments. What I mean by this is, in deduction, if the premises are
true then the conclusion must be true, yet the same cannot be said for induction because it relies on
predicting what is going to happen based on the premises. However, we have to acknowledge this for
what it is, and instead come up with a way that proves that the premises in induction add support to
the conclusion. The problem is how exactly is that possible if nowhere does it say what happens in the
past will happen again in the future. Which now brings us to PUN or the Principle of Uniformity of
Nature that exactly states that instances in the future are going to look like instances in the past. Voila!
Since PUN offers a state of uniformity in the world, it works as the link that is necessary for us to
make predictions about the future based solely upon what happen in the past. For example, if all
observed emeralds are green, according to PUN, I can say that all unobserved emeralds will be green
also. Although this may possibly be true, according to Goodman, it simply is not enough to solve the
problem as there is a New Riddle of Induction. Moreover, Goodman s main concern with PUN is that
it is vacuously true, which essentially means that it is true no matter how the world is. Nevertheless, in
order for Goodman to refute PUN, he focuses on a thought experiment that puts green up against a
new predicate known as grue. Now one must think as grue as a combination between green and blue,
but basically an object is grue if it is first observed before the year 2050, and green, or if it is not
observed before 2050, and blue.

Why Johannes Can Help Us With
After some idle conversation and a cordial goodbye, we watched Graham drive away before Vince and
I exploded with ideas. Mine were about furnishing and decorating our sensational new space. Vince s
thoughts were about pulling the money together. Once we were safely on the E45 pointed in the right
direction to Orvieto, Vince spoke first. I m going to ask Johannes if we can see the apartment again
before we fly home so I can to take room and window measurements. Honey, what a great idea, oh, I
can t wait to decorate, I said with great enthusiasm. I know that I won t be able to sleep tonight. I just
love the kitchen. I can t believe that we have granite counters and beautiful wooden cabinetry. Before
we go home, we must open a bank account in Marsciano, Vince replied, without reacting to my
comment. I hope that Johannes can help us with that. I think that we have to give him a deposit
tomorrow. The first thing I am going to do I continued with comments about what was important to
me, is get rid of all those old lady curtains Ann has having in every widow. I don t want any curtains
anywhere, I want to keep the space light and airy. Nonetheless, we will need some kind of window
covering on the terrazzo door to shield us from the sun in the summer. I bet it gets hot in that living
room on a sunny day.
Before heading back to Orvieto, we decided to drive through Marsciano to familiarize ourselves with
the city center. Although there were no the big,

The Little Black Boy Essay
The lyric under investigation is taken from an arrangement of works by William Blake Songs of
Innocence and Experience, and is known as The Little Black Boy. William Blake was a British artist

verse does not just grasp the trademark highlights of this age, yet in addition have certain deviations
from the primary scholarly group and its standards, which add a unique flavor to William Blake s

Tess of the D Urbervilles Compared to Jane Eyre
The characters, Tess and Jane are both the main characters of the novels ‘Tess of the D urbervilles
and ‘Jane Eyre , respectively. ‘Tess of the D urbervilles is based on the experiences of Tess.
Whereas, ‘Jane Eyre is an autobiographical book about Jane.
The two novels are based in the past when women were not considered as equal to men. The
characters Jane and Tess are both women and so they are subject to discrimination and they both have
a lot in common, for example both Tess and Jane are considerate and caring.
Jane Eyre s background is a sad one, at the beginning of the novel she s an orphan and living with her
cruel aunt and cousins who continually persecute her. This prepares her for any future injustices

Rochester is unrequited and when Tess feels that she ll never see Angel again after they separate. Their
pessimism is most probably because of their past misfortunes.
The fact that they learn from experience is shown when Jane mentions that it isn t wise to stand up to
her aunt and cousins and when Tess becomes very cautious after the incident with Alec.
Their inferiority complex is proven when Jane says that Miss Ingram is better than her and that Mr.
Rochester will choose her and when Tess thinks that Angel is too good to like her. This is because of
self doubt.
Their bottling up of feelings is shown when Jane hides her feelings of love from Mr. Rochester and
when Tess respects Angel s views and stays away from him.
They are both very determined to do what they resolve to do. This is proven in Jane s case when she
stays away from Mr. Rochester even though it tears her apart. And in Tess case, she is determined to
stay away from Alec D urberville. But both their determinations get exhausted after continuous attacks
made by the world and circumstances. This is proven by Jane s return to Mr. Rochester and Tess
marriage with Alec. But this doesn t mean that they lack will power, they have tremendous will power
but their emotions, which are intensified by time, and constant reminders of reality overpower and
overwhelm them.
Jane s life on the whole is mostly dreamlike as she achieves and gets almost everything she wants

Developmental Math Syllabus
Essay 1
I teach developmental mathematics courses for struggling math students at the Community College of
Philadelphia. For many students, this is where the community college experience begins in a remedial
arithmetic or algebra class, reviewing mathematics concepts they learned, or should have learned,
before they graduated from high school. As I reviewed the course syllabus and class requirements on
the first day of a new semester, Scott, an older male student shouted out a barrage of questions: What
do we need this for? Can we take tests over? How many classes can we miss? His tone was hostile,
and all eyes were fixed on me and my reaction.

I teach in a computer lab and incorporate technology in the classroom. I use a supplemental online
program by Pearson Education, Math Lab Plus (MLP), to reinforce the material. The program has an
online discussion component. To foster a sense of community in the classroom, the first assignment I
post is for students to write a brief bio about themselves, including their goals and aspirations for
taking the course. I respond to each entry to make sure students know they are seen and heard and that
I care about their success. As part of their participation grade, students are required to respond to two
other students in the course. This helps them recognize they are part of a community of learners and
not just another student lost in the crowd. Students are placed in cooperative learning groups where
they work with a partner to improve their understanding of different math concepts.
Additionally, I use a toolbox of leadership strategies that are implemented throughout the semester
including: reflective practice, naming and reframing the questions that arise and analyze the results,
integrating theory into practice. Carl Buehner said, They may forget what you said, but they will never
forget how you made them feel.

Dizdarevic s film An Awkward Age were Bosnian Muslims, others Bosnian Croats, others Bosnian

the premiere of the movie, Esvedin, Sabina, and Sedin were interviewed in an apartment in Sarajevo.
Sedin sent special regards to his good friends Srdjan, who was in Zvornik. They both grow up in the

that he could not go back. He believed that everybody would hate him if he went back to Sarajevo

Srdjan was so moved might be that Sedin understood that it was not Srdjan but the soldiers that should
be to blame. Sedin could make distinctions between the soldiers who were terrorizing the Muslim
population and other Serbs who were blameless like his friends. Srdjan and Sedin, in spite of their
different religions and ethnicities, used to be good friends before they were both picked for the movie.

The Evolution Of Management Theory

Management theory constantly evolves when there are new ideas or when there is and intention of
attempts of transforming the theory. Hence this theory can also be called as the condensed theory To
know the history of the management theory is the fundamental task (Sarshar, 2002).
The evolution of management began after the industrial revolution had occurred in Europe and
America, which was in the end of the 19th century. During the evolution of the management theory,
there were many major changes happening, like economic, cultural and technical. The start of the
evolution of the management theory was when there was an introduction to the steam power. That was

Scientific management theory
The techniques of the scientific management theory were defined by Frederick W. Taylor. F W Taylor
was a manufacturing manager, but he eventually became a consultant. He introduced four principles
Principle 1: Study the way workers perform their tasks, gather all the informal jobs, knowledge that
worker possess, and experiment with ways of improving how tasks are performed.
Principle 2: Codify the new methods of performing tasks into written rules and standard operating
procedures.
Principle 3: Carefully select workers who possess skills and abilities that match the needs of the task
and train them to perform according to the established rules and procedures.
Principle 4: Establish a fair or acceptable level of performance for a tasks, and then develop a pay
system that rewards performance about the acceptable level (Jones and George, 2003).
In the 1900 s these principles were known nationally and were applied in many organisations. In some
organisations the managers choose to follow only some of the principles, which led to some problems.
After applying the principles the efficiency of the organisation increased, but instead of sharing the
profit with the workers as specified by Taylor, the managers expected the workers to work for more
hours for that same wages. After a while the workers realised that the increase in the efficiency in the

Testing And Measure The Time Taken For Blood Glucose Levels
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment is to test and measure the time taken for blood glucose levels to rise
after an increase in amount of glucose in the blood, and then the time taken for blood glucose levels to
then return to within a normal range. This will be done by using lucozade to elevate blood glucose
levels. It is then expected that the blood glucose levels should then return to within the normal range,
which in a healthy person should be around 5mmol/L. The rate at which the blood glucose levels
return to the normal range depend on the cells ability to absorb the glucose from the blood, which
depends on the synthesis and use of insulin. The same test will be carried out with water instead of
lucozade in order to obtain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was then repeated every 30 minutes for a 150 minutes.
Results
The results are shown in the tables below. They show the results of four different drinks on the
changes to blood glucose levels, measured in 30 minute intervals for a 150 minutes.
These results show that lucozade, the drink congaing the most sugar, caused the blood glucose levels
to be the highest with the highest average of 8mmol/L. Coca cola caused the blood glucose levels to
rise to an average of 6.5mmol/L as the highest value. The water and the Diet Coke didn t cause much
of a change in the blood glucose levels.
The graph shows an increase in blood glucose levels in all four drinks. The blood glucose levels with
the lucozade take the longest to return to within a normal range. The blood glucose levels with the
Coca Cola keep increasing for the longest amount of time. The blood glucose levels with the water
and Diet Coke oscillate up and down within the normal range. All blood glucose levels return to
within the normal range after the 150 minutes.
These results show that the higher the glucose impulse, the longer it takes for the blood glucose to
return to within the normal range. But also even when the blood glucose levels have returned to within
a normal range the levels still fluctuate.
The standard deviation values obtained are low. This shows that there is a low variance between the
results obtained, showing a similar trend with each drink at different

The Woman Warrior Analysis
In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston crafts a fictitious memoir of her girlhood among
ghosts. The book s classification as a memoir incited significant debate, and the authenticity of her
representation of Chinese Americanism was contended by Asian American scholars and authors. The
Woman Warrior is ingenuitive in its manipulation of the autobiographical genre. Kingston integrates
the importance of storytelling in the evolution of her identity and relates her method of exploring self
discovery to the dominant themes about silence and the translation of tradition. Throughout her work,
Kingston reaches a variety of conclusions about the stories her mother told her by performing her
interpretation of talk story. Consequently, there is inaccuracy in Kingston s storytelling, which
cultivates the sense that Kingston is reshaping and untangling the tales of her ancestral tradition to
fulfill her personal narrative about identity. Kingston fictionalizes her memoir through storytelling in
order to convey the thematic significance of defying silence, breaking from objectivity, and the
translation of Chinese traditions to America.
In The Woman Warrior, Kingston immediately establishes the structure of a fictitious memoir through
the story of the No Name Woman , Kingston s dead aunt. Kingston first writes her mother s version of
the story, in which her sister in law became pregnant outside of her marriage, was ambushed by the
villagers, and killed herself and her child in the

The Emergence Of Cinematic Time
Tim Hodge
In Mary Ann Doane s The Emergence of Cinematic Time , she opens with an explanation of the
historical development of time as we now understand it. I believe that is the most important aspect of
the text. She discusses a shift in the fundamental understanding of the existence of time concurrent
with the development of the concept of capitalism. This not only shapes our understanding of the
image but of a fundamental understanding of our existence in the contemporary world. Though that
may seem a tad melodramatic, I challenge you to come up with one aspect of your life and your art
that is not affected by your temporal experience. It is difficult to conceive of one aspect of our lives
and our art that is not affected by temporal experience. Aside from being late for an appointment, the
effect of time is most prevalent when viewing other s moving images.
Doane argues that the creation of capitalistic time grew out of the proliferation of pocket watches and
trains. That time becomes uniform, homogenous, irreversible and divisible into verifiable units.
(Doane 6) These measured units of time end up having their effect most felt by people. As simplistic
as that statement may be that is what productivity and efficiency come down to, the experience of
people. The struggle for productivity and efficiency profoundly affect the experience of people. The
positive consequences of this are the developments that we see in the world around us such as global

crystals affect light and at the age of 26, he started working on his doctoral thesis on crystallography,
the study of forms and structures of crystals. Louis began working with two acids commonly found in
the sediments of fermenting wine. Tartaric acid and paratartaric acid were found a few years earlier to
have the same chemical composition, but there was something about these two acids that were
different and Louis sought to find the answer. He found that in solution the two rotated polarized light
differently, while tartaric acid rotated polarized light to the right, paratartaric acid did not rotate the
light at all. He then began to study the crystals of each acid under his microscope and noticed that
some of the crystals in paratartaric acid were slightly different from that of tartaric acid. Using a
dissecting needle and his microscope, he separated the different crystals into two piles, and upon
viewing each crystal in the microscope, he noticed that the crystals appeared to be mirror images of
themselves (Berche, 2012).

Motivation of Immorality in The Rise of Silas Lapham and The Octopus
In both William Dean Howells The Rise of Silas Lapham and The Octopus by Frank Norris, a
character is faced with the moral issues involved with operating his business. Howells character, Silas
Lapham (The Colonel) and Norris Magnus Derrick are both desirous to have a prominent position in
their respective societies, but are in the precarious situation of having to deploy immoral methods to
achieve this coveted stature during the course of harder times. Each man has aspirations to be
powerful, prestigious, famous, and/or wealthy. In combination with their lack of humility for their
lofty position in society and their over ambitious definition of success, ... Show more content on

He desires acceptance as an equal to the socially distinguished Boston family, the Coreys. It is only
through the money made from his mineral paint business that lends him the chance to associate with
such families.
Silas rise from poverty was not fully morally sound though, notwithstanding the fact that the product
he made his money with was one that was virtually handed to him and that sold itself. In spite of these
facts, at an earlier stage in the business, Silas had taken up a partner, Mr. Rogers, to help him
financially, and then forced him out before he could make any profit. This move appears to be the first
immoral business choice in the career of Silas Lapham. It forces him to be dishonest not only to
himself, but to his wife, by driving him to lie about and cover up his inner feelings about what he had
done. Although he states that he has a clear conscience concerning the whole affair, he cannot so much
as speak directly to the man during a chance meeting on the street. He shies away from the awkward
situation entirely, leaving his wife to contend with the betrayed former partner.
Silas attempts to reconcile his deceiving Rogers by calling it a business chance, but his wife refutes by
stating,
It was no chance at all. You crowded him out. A man that saved you! No, you had got greedy, Silas.
You had made your paint your god, and you couldn t bear to let anybody

Benefits Of Cursive Writing
Imagining our future citizens being unable to write their own signature is truly a bewildering thought.
Unfortunately, this reality is a very possible and likely outcome for our country as schools around the
United States are debating whether or not to keep cursive writing in their curriculums. Some states
believe it is a vital and basic necessity of education, while others think print handwriting would do just
fine. Generally, this matter has proven to be a very controversial topic that largely impacts education.
From the Sources, it can be gathered that there are many credible arguments to this debate, however, it
is evident that the benefits of maintaining cursive writing in schools outweigh the negatives, if any.
Those who believe cursive writing is an overrated tradition, argue that the space it takes in the
curriculum can better be used to expose students to new, more helpful material. For instance, Source A
claims that the practice of cursive writing in schools is completely replaceable. The article states,
when society adds new skills and new knowledge to the list of things public schools teach, some items
have to come off the list to avoid a curriculum that is a mile wide and an inch deep. As a result, some
states have had no problem removing cursive, while others like California are still managing to
squeeze it in. Source A also explains that with the technology of today, there may very well be
substitutes for a signature such as fingerprint scans. The general

The Beauty of the Mundane in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary, it is difficult to know what to think of Monsieur Binet and his
lathe. His constant devotion to such an unrewarding pursuit would seem to act as the bourgeois
backdrop to Emma Bovary s quest for eternal passion and excitement, a polar opposite with which
Emma can stand in sharp contrast. However, it turns out that Binet and his lathe have more in common
with Emma and her rampant desires than what would first appear obvious. Binet s lathe still serves as
a background with which to compare Emma s quest for love and riches, but instead of acting as a
complete antithesis to everything she does, the lathe is meant to be subtly different ... Show more

In this one sentence Flaubert not only gives example of how the works are repetitive, with similar
plots, and dying horses on every page, but he also manages to capture the clichéd, melodramatic style
of romance novels that makes them all seem the same. The repetitiveness extends into real life as well,
as Emma s love affairs constantly lose their fire and begin to become routine, or, as Rodolphe notes,
the charm of novelty, falling down slowly like a dress, expose[s] only the eternal monotony of
passion, always the same forms and the same language (154).
The feeling of superiority that the lathe gives Binet fits more obviously with Emma s action and
character. He uses his lathe with the jealousy of an artist and the egoism of a bourgeois (60). He feels
that his craftsmanship and dedication to the lathe make him superior to those deprived souls that do
not have one. We see these feelings firsthand when Binet suggests to Leon that he should take up the
lathe as a solution to his problems. When Leon admits that he knows nothing about lathes, Binet
replies That is true, and strok[es] his chain, with a look that mingle[s] disdain and satisfaction (94).
The lathe fulfills Binet s bourgeois

The Development Of Heritage And Vacant Building Stock
Dorf is a consulting firm specialising in adaptive reuse development of heritage and vacant building
stock. We will provide strategic packages for developers, architects, planners and government
agencies. We believe that the adaptive reuse of our heritage and aging built landscape is fundamental
to environmental, social and cultural sustainability. Dorf advocates preservation through adaption,
rather than blunt conservation and isolation. We believe that more attention and consideration is due to
the respectful adaptive reuse of our Post War and modernist heritage, particularly in Brisbane. In the
future, we aim to evolve our practice to include roles as developers, beginning with the development
of a small scale reuse project in the next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Property Council of Australia has also indicated that Grade B commercial property is
experiencing an increased vacancy rating, the secondary market of office property in Brisbane rising
to 23% vacancy in 2016. In response to this, there has been a push from the City and Property councils
to adapt such buildings into residential apartments, student accommodation, retirement living and
hotels. Brisbane s 41 George Street office tower is a key example of a piece of Brisbane s Post War
heritage with current potential for adaptive re use projects, with speculative plans to transform the
recently sold building s 1,021sqm floor plate into refurbished offices, a hotel, residential apartments
and student accommodation.
The combination of the increased demand for inner city housing against high vacancy rates for office
buildings is providing lucrative development opportunities for adaption into residential apartments.
The forecast for house price growth in 2016 was 17% in Perth, 6% in Adelaide, 6% in Melbourne, 8%
in Darwin, 19% in Sydney and 16% in Brisbane. Developers are looking towards the adaptive reuse of
C and D grade office space across Australia capital cities into residential buildings. The economic
prospects for adaptive reuse as residential apartments across Australian capital cities were verified by
research conducted by JLL

The Importance Of Body Mass And Speed
Growing up I have always been fascinated with Track and Field. The adrenaline, the time, and speed
were all factors that created interest. It wasn t until I was older I decided to play the sport with a
passion. I have noticed track runners come in various body compositions including body mass and
height, which made me ponder, does height of a runner affect their speed?
With all things being equal (body mass, proportionality and stride rate) the mechanics of running
depends upon more than runner height. According to most researchers, the height of the runner can be
a factor that helps increase speed, but the mechanics of a runner s stride, and how the runner s body
responds to training also can make a runner faster. A runner should have a steady stride rate and have a
manageable body mass and have an equal proportionally in order to maximize his or her potential.
Background information
Running is a type of gait characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground
(though there are exceptions). Running is a method of transportation allowing humans and other
animals to move rapidly on foot ( Running ).
This is in contrast to walking, where one foot is always in contact with the ground, the legs are kept
mostly straight and the center of gravity vaults over the stance leg or legs in an inverted pendulum
fashion. A characteristic feature of a running body from the viewpoint of spring mass mechanics is
that changes in kinetic and potential energy within a

The Negative Impact Of Body Shaming In The Brand Of...
While Forever 21 hires countless models to represent their brand, Chrissy Teigen, one of the most
sought after supermodels, was fired for being too fat. Body shaming is one of the main issues that
young people face in today s society, and this can send out negative effects on how young people
perceive their own bodies. We must learn to accept each other because everyone s different in their
own ways, and not everyone has a perfect body. As the years progressed, the store became more
accepting to our society. Forever 21 is a fashion brand that promotes the latest trends that target young
adults and teens through the stores, social media, and their models. Today, the company provides a
diverse atmosphere that invites middle class young adults and teens in any gender, size, and ethnicity
that mainly targets fit, light skinned young women who are into the latest fashion trends.
The arrangement and spacings of the furniture give Forever 21 a modern look to draw in their target
customers. For example, their pieces of furniture. Customers who walk in the store will observe white
furniture such as tables and shelves throughout the store, which makes the store look spacious for the
items to look neat and presentable. Although the store has many pieces of furniture, the store does not
provide benches or chairs throughout the store for the customers to sit on. Shopping in this store can
be exhausting due to the numerous amount of products that are being sold in the store.

  • 3. Propaganda And Atrocity Propaganda World War One marked a watershed in the modern development of propaganda. Propaganda assumed an ever increasing role in shaping mass opinion, a role that has had a lasting influence on the course of twentieth century politics. Propaganda is potentially an immensely revealing source for examining the state society relationship, for it is, in essence, a set of messages from the state to the society. It is based upon and seeks to modify certain assumptions about popular behaviour. It was not until Germany invaded Belgium, that atrocity propaganda emerged as a major force. Atrocity propaganda focused on the most violent acts committed by the German and Austro Hungarian armies, emphasising their barbarity and providing justification for the conflict. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the Germans were looked upon as a country that could only be described as a corrupt invader in the war from the start. The German army engaged in several atrocities against the Belgium population during the course of the war. These atrocities were seen as an organised terror, an attack to intimidate the civilian population, to terrorise the inhabitants of recently occupied areas, to intimidate the politicians and most importantly, to intimidate the Belgian army. The period after 5 August 1914 and the months to follow were fierce, and the dynamic of violence was enduring. There were multiple cases of civilians being used as leverage to induce compliance or to stymie resistance often as human shields marched in front of German units, or as hostages to ensure good behaviour. At Liège, several influential citizens were taken hostage and threatened with death if the German troops, charged with taking nearby forts, came under attack. Civilians were executed en masse, as the invasion force advanced on its first obstacle, the ring of forts around Liège . This was a terrifying time for Belgians, as the Germany army was ten times the size of theirs. The anxiety was also apparent in proclamations issued throughout Belgian towns. One notice, issued at Hasselt on 17 August 1914 by the Burgomaster, warned the villagers in no uncertain terms to abstain from ... all acts of hostility which might bring ... Health And Safety Report Detailing John Schmidt s Injury In reviewing the health and safety report detailing John Schmidt s injury on June 7th, 2015, I concur with the report s findings that the cause of Mr. Schmidt s was a poorly designed safety guard on the table saw. Table saw accidents are life altering, agonizing for the employee involved, and extremely costly. In fact, the statistics of injuries and cost of those injuries are daunting: ...from 1990 2007, an estimated 565,670 non occupational table saw related injuries...treated in U.S. emergency rooms ( New National Study Finds Table Saw Related Injuries Have Remained Consistently High: Nationwide Children s Hospital , 2010). • 10. Animal Experimentation And The Human Understanding Of... Any knowledge obtained, or currently being obtained, through the use of animals is beneficial to furthering the human understanding of medicine (Greek et al. 15). Throughout history, animal experimentation has been a key component in understanding the fundamentals of human life. Kay Peggs argues that virtually every major medical advance of the last century is due, in part, to research with animals (624). Before recent times, scientists could easily dissect animals strictly for exploration and curiosity (Greek et al. 15). The knowledge gained from animal experimentation has helped scientists get desired results without causing direct harm to humans. Without animal experimentation, medicine and education would be in the dark ages. In today s times, using animals for medical research and education is a highly controversial issue. Some believe that it is not justifiable to use animals to serve as human models. They argue that humans are the best models for human disease and treatment efficacy, not animals. However, humans cannot be test subjects for the benefit of society without volunteering to participate and fully understanding the question being researched. This is for all human beings, including prisoners, the mentally impaired, and unwanted children (Rollin 5). Also, according to the USDA, the first requirement for a new medical drug or vaccine to be considered for a clinical trial is that nonhuman animal subjects were used during the development and testing ... Given that the inspiration for an artist s work can be so varied and diverse, I think it s hard to say that artists have a social responsibility given that some artists work don t necessarily convey or reflect the feelings or ideals of the greater bulk of society. Artistic expression is important and as soon as society begins to police or restrict the ability of an artist to express his or herself, I think we re moving into dangerous territory as a culture. With that said, I don t think artists should be held accountable for the work they produce. Artists should be allowed to completely and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Analysis Of Nelson Goodman s New Riddle Of Induction Throughout this paper, I will simplify and explain Nelson Goodman s take with the problem of induction. Nevertheless, a concept known as PUN, if proven true, has been asserted by many philosophers to be the answer to such problem. However, this is where I will introduce and clarify upon Goodman s New Riddle of Induction and its claim that PUN by itself is not enough to act as a solution for this case. For starters, the problem is not that we know for sure that something is going to happen, that is the case for deductive arguments. Instead, the problem in simple terms is that it is not justifiable like that of deductive arguments. What I mean by this is, in deduction, if the premises are true then the conclusion must be true, yet the same cannot be said for induction because it relies on predicting what is going to happen based on the premises. However, we have to acknowledge this for what it is, and instead come up with a way that proves that the premises in induction add support to the conclusion. The problem is how exactly is that possible if nowhere does it say what happens in the past will happen again in the future. Which now brings us to PUN or the Principle of Uniformity of Nature that exactly states that instances in the future are going to look like instances in the past. Voila! Since PUN offers a state of uniformity in the world, it works as the link that is necessary for us to make predictions about the future based solely upon what happen in the past. For example, if all observed emeralds are green, according to PUN, I can say that all unobserved emeralds will be green also. Although this may possibly be true, according to Goodman, it simply is not enough to solve the problem as there is a New Riddle of Induction. Moreover, Goodman s main concern with PUN is that it is vacuously true, which essentially means that it is true no matter how the world is. Nevertheless, in order for Goodman to refute PUN, he focuses on a thought experiment that puts green up against a new predicate known as grue. Now one must think as grue as a combination between green and blue, but basically an object is grue if it is first observed before the year 2050, and green, or if it is not observed before 2050, and blue. ... It is then expected that the blood glucose levels should then return to within the normal range, which in a healthy person should be around 5mmol/L. The book s classification as a memoir incited significant debate, and the authenticity of her representation of Chinese Americanism was contended by Asian American scholars and authors. The Woman Warrior is ingenuitive in its manipulation of the autobiographical genre. Kingston integrates the importance of storytelling in the evolution of her identity and relates her method of exploring self discovery to the dominant themes about silence and the translation of tradition. Throughout her work, Kingston reaches a variety of conclusions about the stories her mother told her by performing her interpretation of talk story. Consequently, there is inaccuracy in Kingston s storytelling, which cultivates the sense that Kingston is reshaping and untangling the tales of her ancestral tradition to fulfill her personal narrative about identity. Kingston fictionalizes her memoir through storytelling in order to convey the thematic significance of defying silence, breaking from objectivity, and the translation of Chinese traditions to America. In The Woman Warrior, Kingston immediately establishes the structure of a fictitious memoir through the story of the No Name Woman , Kingston s dead aunt. I believe that is the most important aspect of the text. She discusses a shift in the fundamental understanding of the existence of time concurrent with the development of the concept of capitalism. This not only shapes our understanding of the image but of a fundamental understanding of our existence in the contemporary world. It is difficult to conceive of one aspect of our lives and our art that is not affected by temporal experience. Louis drew comprehensive drawings that would help him draw what he saw in the microscope. Fortitude also came in his childhood when a wolf bit his friend and nearly died from rabies (Berche, 2012). Louis Pasteur Education Louis received his bachelor s degree in letters in August of 1840. Louis received his doctoral degree in 1847 with a thesis on crystallography. Pasteur studied how certain crystals affect light and at the age of 26, he started working on his doctoral thesis on crystallography, the study of forms and structures of crystals. Louis began working with two acids commonly found in the sediments of fermenting wine. Tartaric acid and paratartaric acid were found a few years earlier to have the same chemical composition, but there was something about these two acids that were different and Louis sought to find the answer. He found that in solution the two rotated polarized light differently, while tartaric acid rotated polarized light to the right, paratartaric acid did not rotate the light at all. He then began to study the crystals of each acid under his microscope and noticed that some of the crystals in paratartaric acid were slightly different from that of tartaric acid. Using a dissecting needle and his microscope, he separated the different crystals into two piles, and upon viewing each crystal in the microscope, he noticed that the crystals appeared to be mirror images of themselves (Berche, 2012). He desires acceptance as an equal to the socially distinguished Boston family, the Coreys. It is only through the money made from his mineral paint business that lends him the chance to associate with such families. Silas rise from poverty was not fully morally sound though, notwithstanding the fact that the product he made his money with was one that was virtually handed to him and that sold itself. In spite of these facts, at an earlier stage in the business, Silas had taken up a partner, Mr. Rogers, to help him financially, and then forced him out before he could make any profit. This move appears to be the first immoral business choice in the career of Silas Lapham. It forces him to be dishonest not only to himself, but to his wife, by driving him to lie about and cover up his inner feelings about what he had done. Although he states that he has a clear conscience concerning the whole affair, he cannot so much as speak directly to the man during a chance meeting on the street. He shies away from the awkward situation entirely, leaving his wife to contend with the betrayed former partner. Silas attempts to reconcile his deceiving Rogers by calling it a business chance, but his wife refutes by stating, It was no chance at all. You crowded him out. A man that saved you! No, you had got greedy, Silas. You had made your paint your god, and you couldn t bear to let anybody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Benefits Of Cursive Writing Imagining our future citizens being unable to write their own signature is truly a bewildering thought. Unfortunately, this reality is a very possible and likely outcome for our country as schools around the United States are debating whether or not to keep cursive writing in their curriculums. Some states believe it is a vital and basic necessity of education, while others think print handwriting would do just fine. Generally, this matter has proven to be a very controversial topic that largely impacts education. From the Sources, it can be gathered that there are many credible arguments to this debate, however, it is evident that the benefits of maintaining cursive writing in schools outweigh the negatives, if any. Those who believe cursive writing is an overrated tradition, argue that the space it takes in the curriculum can better be used to expose students to new, more helpful material. For instance, Source A claims that the practice of cursive writing in schools is completely replaceable. The article states, when society adds new skills and new knowledge to the list of things public schools teach, some items have to come off the list to avoid a curriculum that is a mile wide and an inch deep. As a result, some states have had no problem removing cursive, while others like California are still managing to squeeze it in. Source A also explains that with the technology of today, there may very well be substitutes for a signature such as fingerprint scans. The general ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Beauty of the Mundane in Gustave Flaubert’s Madame... The Beauty of the Mundane in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary In Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary, it is difficult to know what to think of Monsieur Binet and his lathe. His constant devotion to such an unrewarding pursuit would seem to act as the bourgeois backdrop to Emma Bovary s quest for eternal passion and excitement, a polar opposite with which Emma can stand in sharp contrast. However, it turns out that Binet and his lathe have more in common with Emma and her rampant desires than what would first appear obvious. Binet s lathe still serves as a background with which to compare Emma s quest for love and riches, but instead of acting as a complete antithesis to everything she does, the lathe is meant to be subtly different ... (28) In this one sentence Flaubert not only gives example of how the works are repetitive, with similar plots, and dying horses on every page, but he also manages to capture the clichéd, melodramatic style of romance novels that makes them all seem the same. The repetitiveness extends into real life as well, as Emma s love affairs constantly lose their fire and begin to become routine, or, as Rodolphe notes, the charm of novelty, falling down slowly like a dress, expose[s] only the eternal monotony of passion, always the same forms and the same language (154). The feeling of superiority that the lathe gives Binet fits more obviously with Emma s action and character. He uses his lathe with the jealousy of an artist and the egoism of a bourgeois (60). He feels that his craftsmanship and dedication to the lathe make him superior to those deprived souls that do not have one. We see these feelings firsthand when Binet suggests to Leon that he should take up the lathe as a solution to his problems. When Leon admits that he knows nothing about lathes, Binet replies That is true, and strok[es] his chain, with a look that mingle[s] disdain and satisfaction (94). • 46. The Importance Of Body Mass And Speed Growing up I have always been fascinated with Track and Field. The adrenaline, the time, and speed were all factors that created interest. It wasn t until I was older I decided to play the sport with a passion. I have noticed track runners come in various body compositions including body mass and height, which made me ponder, does height of a runner affect their speed? With all things being equal (body mass, proportionality and stride rate) the mechanics of running depends upon more than runner height. According to most researchers, the height of the runner can be a factor that helps increase speed, but the mechanics of a runner s stride, and how the runner s body responds to training also can make a runner faster. A runner should have a steady stride rate and have a manageable body mass and have an equal proportionally in order to maximize his or her potential. Background information Running is a type of gait characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground (though there are exceptions). Running is a method of transportation allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot ( Running ). This is in contrast to walking, where one foot is always in contact with the ground, the legs are kept mostly straight and the center of gravity vaults over the stance leg or legs in an inverted pendulum fashion. A characteristic feature of a running body from the viewpoint of spring mass mechanics is that changes in kinetic and potential energy within a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
