Overview of EMPPA EMPPA-Established in September, 2006 Current  members: 21 EMPPA membership includes: Milk producers and processors, milk collectors and distributors, input suppliers and consultancy service providers Work in harmony with different value chain actors
Objectives of EMPPA Produce quality based milk and milk products in terms of volume and diversity Facilitate national and international market linkage which in turn can  benefit the members Arrange forum for information exchange and capacity building
Objectives Cont’d Assist technology transfer and training facilities in order to upgrade the skills / knowledge of its members’ Support the members in obtaining various agricultural inputs locally/internationally Make alliance with value chain actors in order to develop the national dairy sector Provide advocacy in national dairy policy development and implementation strategy
Challenges Deprived linkage among producers and processors, processors-processors, producers-producers Less emphasize was provided to the dairy sector Be short of workable national dairy program and policy Availability of inputs for dairy production Insufficiency of quality based payment system
Challenges Dairy Packaging materials /milk utensils/dairy machineries availability Home-grown dairy equipment/unit operations manufactures Be deficient in guidelines for strict regulatory control over the production, processing and marketing of milk and milk products for the country Linkage among dairy value chain actors towards sustainable development
Current Status Organize consultative meeting in order to discus and solve outstanding issues as well as exchange information in the dairy value chain Provide platform on access to market Quality based payment system: Develop incentive mechanism to dairy farmers Facilitate training/capacity building and technology transfer
Current Status cont’d Get hold of legal certificate from The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Charities and Societies Agency Strengthening the market linkage among members (Produces and Processors) Develop contract agreement between producers and processors on whole milk Working  jointly together with the value  chain actors towards National dairy development
Future Plan Finalize the registration process at the Ministry of Justice according to the new law of charities and societies:  Certificate Prepare, action plan, financial statement and develop EMPPA internal bylaw Invite  General assembly  and approve the bylaw of EMMPA and leadership election Open regional offices and recruit more members  Strengthening the linkage on the information net work  system on marketing , production and  dairy processing technology including packaging
Future Plan Facilitate training on milk handling, collection and transpiration  and process technology with the support of value chain actors and members Organize experience sharing forum  nationally and internationally Refine the action plan/expected outputs in harmonization with the 5-years growth and transformation plan of the government
