Introduction
In the age of Cellular Mobile technology telecom industries are growing very fast due to its
demand, every year large number of users are using the mobile Phones this forces companies
to provide the coverage to there customers in a very discipline manner ,In order to provide the
coverage companies have competition to install new cell site, now a days we can see new cell
sites around us ,you can see large number of towers are installed on the building, due to this a
net of towers are created around us , these tower are highly radiative which are radiating the
EMF(Electromagnetic Magnetic Field wave), At some range it is harmful for the human body
.In this competitions companies are neglecting the rules and regulation of the TRAI(Telecom
Regularity Authority of India ),which causes harmful effect to the human being .TRAI have some
set of rules on basis of which companies have to installed the tower, and the transmission from
the tower should have a specifics range of EIRP(Effective Isotropic Radiated
Power).Government is responsible to check the EIRP ,for this government asked companies to
provide the report to the TRAI .The survey perform by the companies to provide this report to
the TRAI is called EMF Survey (Electromagnetic Field Survey).EMF Survey is perform to check
the value of EIRP across the BSS.
Definition
EMF Survey is perform to collect the EIRP (Effected Isotropic Radiated Power) ratio to know
about the strength of EMF signal across the BSS (Base Station Subsystem).
Need Of EMF Survey
This survey is performed to check the harmful effect cause due the high power radiation of the
EMF from the towers.

TRAI Guidelines:
Old Guideline:
 According to the TRAI (Telecom Regularity Authority of India) the survey area across the
nominal point should be of 20 meter.
 EIRP ratio (Effective Isotropic Radiated Power): According to TRAI the EIRP ratio should
be less than 1.
New Guideline:
 According to the TRAI (Telecom Regularity Authority of India) the survey area across the
nominal point should be of 60 meter.
 EIRP ratio (Effective Isotropic Radiated Power): According to TRAI the EIRP ratio should
be less than 0.5.

Procedures of EMF Survey
 With the help of GPS we have to reach at the nominal point.
 Collection of data :
o Site Id
o Site Name
o Site Add
o Lat, Long
o Antenna Height
o Tower Height
o RF cable length
o panoramic photos (0,30,90.120……..330 degree) 12 photos, sky should be 10% &
Cluster 90%.
o Calculate Firing angle/azimuth angle.
o Sector Photos(Sector A, Sector B, Sector C)/
o Site Photo
o To take adjacent photo if the G+1 building is present in the range of 60 meter.
o Detail of each G+1 building and cell site is Mandatory.
Calculation Method:
 There are two methods to calculate EIRP Ratio :
o Using EMF Tester and
o Using calculation sheet( Formulated excel sheet).

A. Danger Sign Board: At tower where maximum EIRP ratio found.
B. Caution Sign Board: Around tower where EIRP ration is average.
C. Warning Sign Board: At the entrance of tower where EIRP ratio is low.
