Portland General Electric is proposing a transportation electrification pilot portfolio to: 1) Increase electric vehicle adoption and ensure a reliable charging network in its service area; and 2) Efficiently integrate electric vehicles onto its electric grid. The portfolio includes outreach and technical assistance, partnering with TriMet on electric bus infrastructure, developing a community charging network, research and development projects, and evaluating the pilots. Many remote areas and islands (RAI) are deploying renewable energy (RE), some with ambitious plans to meet 100% of their electricity or even final energy needs with renewables. For most of them, roof-top PV systems offer clear advantages but most of their deployment potential still remains largely untapped. The setup of consistent prosumer policies can provide a means to achieve the islands’ objectives faster and with lower costs to society. This report provides guidance to policy makers on the drivers, opportunities, challenges and implementation strategies of PV prosumer policies that can be considered within a comprehensive renewable energy strategy for RAI. It is based on the frameworks and methodologies developed on the IEA-RETD publications RE-PROSUMERS (2014) and REMOTE (2012). The preliminary results were presented at the IRENA Island conference in Martinique in July 2015, see presentation slides.

With the rapid expansion of information technology in modern academic library setting, several libraries nowadays are transforming their services in different ways, including but not limited to the inclusion of social media in their daily operations to outreach their users. This will entail a changing role of librarians to accommodate with this new era of learning by updating their skills to fulfill users’ needs. While the majority of LAU Libraries staff had positive perceptions on the usefulness of social networking tools, the participation of students showed to be limited in addition to hesitancy witnessed among library staff. Benefits and challenges facing library staff in the implementation of social media, will be explored, as well as staff perceptions regarding the usefulness of social networking tools; factors influencing library administration’ decisions whether to use these tools or not will also be analyzed. Facebook, Twitter , YouTube and Instagram are the most commonly adopted apps in university libraries, in addition to Tumblr, Pinterest, Flickr and so on. Last but not least the physical environment needs to be compliant with emerging technologies to go “beyond library walls”.

The aurora borealis, or northern lights, is caused by interactions between the solar wind and Earth's magnetic field. Solar particles collide with gases in the upper atmosphere between 80-200km above the ground, causing the gases to glow in colorful lights. Common forms of the aurora include curtains, arcs, spirals and diffuse glows. The color of the light depends on the type of gas particle, with oxygen producing green and nitrogen producing red, purple and blue hues. Auroras are best viewed at high latitudes near the Earth's magnetic poles and are more frequent and intense during periods of high solar activity.
