Keanu Reeves Research Paper
According to Mahatma Gandhi, Be the change you want to see in the world. Keanu Reeves is one of
the best well known actors, producers, and musicians in the United State. Reeves has been playing the
role of a hero, for he shares his wealth, time, and love with the world. Moreover, Reeves demonstrates
that he is a great man for making positive changes in other people s life. For me, Reeves is an
incomparable person whom I admire because he is a generous person and a role model: and, he is a
sturdy person.
When I first saw Reeves in the Matrix movies, I regarded him as an ordinary or typical actor.
However, while I was watching a video on YouTube about great and unique artists, some of the truths
about Reeves revealed itself to me. Since then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He begins with overcoming objections, such as drug and depression. Although he did not have a father
in his life while growing up, he turns out to be a father and provider for children who are in needs and
fatherless. Reeves demonstrates he is strong minded by moving forward throughout the challenges and
barriers he had to overcome. For example, he chose to make a different path in life after witnessing his
best friend die of an overdose. He also overcame depression, even though death follows him like
paparazzi in Hollywood. Reeves sister was killed by leukemia; therefore, he funds millions of dollars
to charities and hospital to help those who are diagnosed with the disease. Regardless of the Reeves
loss of his first born child and lover in a car accident, he chose to love again and helps making other
children s life better. In brief, I admire the Reeves role as a provider and giver to those in needs
despite his own life tragedies.
On the whole, I have many reasons for acknowledging Reeves as one of my most admire artists. When
I describe him as generous, model, and sturdy, I feel good because those words also resemble me. He
has motivated me, and others alike, to make positive change. Reeves moves me by playing the role I
dream of becoming. Keanu Reeves shows that one way we can make better changes in the world is by
being alive and be the best we can

Developments in the Field of Nurse Anesthetists Essay
Nurse Anesthetist and their journey to where they are now Nurses have played an important role in
medicine throughout the years. When people hear the word nurse they often think of the ones in the
hospital given care and educating. Many people don t think about the other branches of nursing like
the nurse Anesthetist. A nurse Anesthetist has contributed a great deal in administering anesthetics for
about 150 years. Nurse anesthetist have struggled with autonomy and being able to practice without
being supervised by an Anesthesiologist. They also were limited to work in specific areas but now
they work in many hospital and outpatient settings. Nurse anesthetists have come a long way and are

The Lack Of Accessibility Of The American Dream
Imagine living in a perfect world where people can do what they want with their life; a world without
discrimination, where art is just as important as math. Well, it s not going to happen. At least not in the
next century. The lack of accessibility of the American dream is especially apparent in the essay by
Kesaya Noda, The Four Freedoms by Franklin Roosevelt, Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty
from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and an excerpt from The Newsroom . The American dream is
inaccessible to the majority of people in America. In the story, a hyphenated American, a Japanese
American girl is segregated due
To her race: I can see myself today as a person historically defined by law and custom as being forever
alien. Being neither free white, nor African, our people in California were deemed aliens, ineligible for
citizenship no matter how long the intended to stay here. Aliens ineligible for citizenship were
prohibited from owning, buying, or leasing land (Noda). Due to the stereotypes and racism caused by
being a minority in America, she is limited in what she can do and therefore cannot achieve what is
perceived to be the American dream. Noda expresses how her parents were discriminated against, how
they never had the opportunity to achieve the American dream because other people didn t view them
as equals when she says our parents were painted as hard workers who were socially uncomfortable
and had difficulty expressing even the smallest opinion. Clean, quiet, motivated, and determined to
match the American way; that is us, and that is the story of our time here (Noda). Nobody saw her
parents as fellow humans and because of it, they didn t even have a chance at living the American
dream. What is the American dream? The American dream is what the founding fathers wanted for our
country. That perfect life where nobody had to worry about personal and economical safety. When
Franklin Roosevelt wrote The Four Freedoms , the American dream is what he was writing about. In
his article, Roosevelt states the basic things expected in America: Equality of opportunity for youth
and others. Jobs for those who can work. Security for those who need it. The ending of special
privilege

Factors Affecting The Business Organization
Introduction: In the process of manufacturing, packaging, marketing and other necessary business
activities, businesses interact with internal and external factors which may affect the business and can
be affected by the business as well. A combination of both of the factors comprises the business
environment in which the business operates. The internal factors refer to the factors those function
within the business organization and the business can control or facilitate them as needed. Some
prominent internal factors are the working conditions, employees, employer to employee relations,
organizational culture and organizational structure etc. For a British American online chain store like
ASDA, the total numbers of employees working for the organization (140,000 employees working in
500 stores) is a key internal factor. On the other hand, external recruitment are factors as such as
political factors(Laws and regulation system, governmental activities and ownership module, tariffs/
Taxation and trade barriers, conflict between political parties and socio political unrest etc.)
Macroeconomic concerns (interest rate, exchange rate of currency, employment rate, unemployment
rate, discretionary income, GDP, recessions, depressions, inflation etc.), microeconomic concern
(market size, demand and supply diagram, distribution channel and delivery mode etc.), social and
technological factors which are not in the control of the business but affect the business by their
activities

Essay on Gen X
Did you know that you are considered part of the first generation symbolizing the decline of the
nation? Generations are labeled all the time by historians, novelists and journalist in an attempt to
capture the spirit or essence of an era. But the term Generation X carries all the negativity of
propaganda and stereotype.
The term Generation X has become a derisive media batchphrase, a snide put down for those 80
million people who, like me, were born between 1961 and 1981. They are the children of the baby
boomers and the 13th generation since the pilgrims landed in Plymouth. This group is, were told
irresponsible, materialistic, abnormal and apathetic. So how did the term Generation X originate, what
are some of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately these are all terms and stereotypes that this generation is not. It has been said that other
generations have labeled them as such because they are seeing Generation Xers through their own
eyes and haven t tried to look at it from their perspective.
How generation X perceive themselves
Generation Xers see themselves as a generation with its own voice and vision. They are said to be
savvy consumers with an annual spending power of 125 billion dollars. Most of which they spend on
electronics and computer products. However they have economic problems: the starting wages of
entry level jobs are declining, housing cost are so high that 46% are still living with mom or dad. But
despite their financial pressures, they are as likely as baby boomers to think about long term savings
and retirement plan.
To them sex means aids and drugs mean addition. They watched their parents climb the corporate
ladder in the 80 s and then when their parents divorced, they grew up quickly and took on household
responsibilities. They have learned from their parents mistakes; they are marrying later, having kids
later in life and want to spend more time with their own children. In 1992, 40% of Gen Xers were
married, in 1970 67% of the same age group of baby boomers were married.
They have been left with a 4 trillion debt and they have no faith that politicians will deal with society s
ills and won t bother to protest about it because they would rather do it

Product Placement
Product placement, or embedded marketing, is a form of advertisement, where branded goods or
services are placed in a context usually devoid of ads, such as movies, the story line of television
shows, or news programs. The product placement is often not disclosed at the time that the good or
service is featured. Product placement became common in the 1980s.
In April 2006, Broadcasting Cable reported, Two thirds of advertisers employ branded entertainment
product placement with the vast majority of that (80%) in commercial TV programming. The story,
based on a survey by the Association of National Advertisers, said Reasons for using in show plugs

Publisher P. S. Harrison s editorials strongly reflected his feelings against product placement in films.
An editorial in Harrison s Reports criticized the collaboration between the Corona Typewriter
company and First National Pictures when a Corona typewriter appeared in the film The Lost World
(1925).[15] Harrison s Reports published several incidents about Corona typewriters appearing in
films of the mid 1920s.
Among the famous silent films to feature product placement was Wings (1927), the first film to win
the Academy Award for Best Picture. It contained a plug for Hershey s chocolate.
Another early example in film occurs in Horse Feathers (1932) where Thelma Todd s character falls
out of a canoe and into a river. She calls for a life saver and Groucho Marx s character tosses her a
Life Savers candy.
The film It s a Wonderful Life (1946), directed by Frank Capra, depicts a young boy with aspirations
to be an explorer, displaying a prominent copy of National Geographic.

Comparing Abercrombie And Fitch, Forever 21, American...
Social Marketing
Of the hundreds of named brand clothing that form part of the retail and fashion industry I chose to
compare, for my analysis, Abercrombie Fitch, Forever 21, American Eagle, and H M. These stores are
prominent, well known for selling apparel, shoes, and accessories by the means of offering sales and
promotions to their customers. This is a clever strategy for attracting customers, allowing them to
believe that they bought goods at affordable, convenient prices and not to mention the prestigious
name prescribed to the clothing brands. Using keyhole.co as my main source, I obtained relevant and
valuable information regarding the status of these brands. My intentions were to compare a period of
14 days, however, due to the limited access that I received from my free trial, the program only
allowed me to see fewer of the dates than I anticipated. I want to take this opportunity and mention
ahead of time that due to the various and distinctive products that are sold from these stores, when
looking for the spending capacity I decided to focus on shirts/ jeans for men and women and compare
the prices among them since each of these retailers carry those items and as a way to make this report
easier to contrast and comprehend. Also, when approaching the section of setting , I screen shotted
some of the images on Instagram and made them into a collage to separate the type of clothes and
trends that each of these brands sell currently. In the following modules

Motivation Techniques for Businesses to Motivate the Work...
Motivation Techniques for Businesses to Motivate the Work Force
Introduction ============
For this assignment I am going to look at different motivational techniques that businesses use in
order to motivate their work force, I will then decide on which I feel to be the most effective and why
it is so effective.
Hypothesis ==========
All businesses want a motivated workforce, and expend a lot of time and money in order to attempt to
achieve this, what these people need to look at is the common goals that there employees hold, for
example:
Self esteem: needs for self respect and self confidence, for autonomy, for achievement, for
competence, for knowledge.
Status: needs for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for a worker to feel happy, they must be in the right environment, if they do not feel happy in
the area they are working in then they may be tempted not to come at all. If a worker does not get on
with his/her colleagues and are possibly picked on by them than this will cause them to be highly
unmotivated, the same goes if the place they are working in is clean or sanitary, for example if a chef
is working in a very dirty kitchen in which they have to spend a long time working in than they will
not produce their best work, or if someone is working in a dirty cluttered office than it is bound to
affect their work motivation. But if they work in a clean friendly environment, then they will be a lot
happier. But there is one problem with there being an environment that is too friendly, and that is the
employees may talk too much and become distracted

It s Time to Abolish The Penny! Essay
Between 2001 and 2006, there has been an increase of .6 cents for the reproduction of the penny. This
increase displays economic problems that may lead to fatal ones. The penny is composed of 2%
copper and 98% zinc. These elements are exponentially in demand causing the price of these materials
to skyrocket. Many Americans think the penny is putting our country in jeopardy with financial losses.
This meaningless coin is losing money for the mint, and should be abolished. The penny costs 1.4
cents to manufacture each time at the mint. This is causing the mint to lose money for the treasury.
Last year, the mint earned $730 million dollars in profit. Many mint officials claim the estimation will
be about $45 million due to the cost ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This averages to about 1210 pennies per person in the United States. These numbers are just simply
preposterous. A majority of these Lincolns have probably been trashed, thrown on the ground or
located in unknown areas of homes and apartments. The penny is practically worthless to many people
in our country. In a Gallup Poll of 1,002 adults conducted from June 11 of this year displayed
shocking results. Nearly 75% of those adults would stop and pick a penny that is present on the
ground. About 40% of men and 35% of women would walk passed a penny that is on any type of
surface. This poll also found that 58 percent of Americans stash their pennies in piggy banks, jars and
drawers. Some Americans redeem their cents at banks or coin counting machines, but 2 percent
admitted they toss them into the trash. They consider the penny a nuisance to many fellow Americans.
This sentiment has been growing through recent years. The penny is basically obsolete and should be
removed from American currency. Many penny supporters think there is not an inflation with the
economy. The cent doesn t buy anything in today s market. It is merely a token used to make odd
change during cash purchases. The customer may have to use the, Leave a penny, take a penny bowl

customer doesn t accept the return of pennies. It is neater than throwing them on the ground

Memory and how it affects Anton s character
Memory is defined as The faculty of the mind by which it retains the knowledge of previous thoughts,
impressions, or events. Memories are units of information that have impacted one s life and are stored
in the brain for years. In some cases, dramatic events may not let the brain register every single detail
about a situation. This is much like Anton s case of the winter of 1945 of the novel The Assault by
Harry Mulisch. The events of that winter affected him like no other would. The loss of his mother,
father and brother and the burning of his house left an impact on him but the events were so grave his
brain did not allow him to remember the smaller ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She becomes some sort of a mother figure to Anton. Although Anton felt as if he could remember
every word, every feeling and every scent that night in the cell, he drew a blank. Takes explains that
the woman in the cell with him was one of Ploeg s killers. This was one of those important moments
in your life that is so grave you can t allow yourself to remember. It may have been due to the fact that
Anton didn t remember, or didn t want to remember the details that remind him of the death of his
family members.
After he meets Takes he meets Karen Kortweg one of the more important characters in the plot. The
Kortweg s were the ones who took Fake Ploeg s body and dragged it in front of Anton s family s
house, the Steenwijk residence. When meeting Karen, she finally explains the reasoning behind why
she left the body in front of the Steenwijk s house and not any of the other two neighbour s houses.
Once she goes into detail about the families and her and her father s reasoning s Anton begins to
understand and remember the neighbourhood he grew up in and the events of that night.
It is amazing how memories can be jogged by a single person, object, sound or scent. The people
Anton has met and the places he revisits allow him to remember the events of his torturous past, which
permit him to determine his future. Without memories people would not be able to be happy and
reminisce on all the great moments

A Beach That Has Changed Analysis
A Beach That Has Changed When being a kid your favorite place is seen however you want it to be
seen no matter how unrealistic it is. When going again to the same place as a teenager, you don t see
the sane anymore your mind is programmed to see the realism. When I was little I noticed every
beautiful thing in this one place, but when arriving at the same place as a teenager that beauty
disappears and reality is what I see and feel. When going to the beach as a child the enjoyable physical
descriptions, activities and experiences changed when going back to the beach as a teenager. When I
went to the beach as a kid it was exciting, hot, and beautiful and now going as a teenager it s too hot,
boring, and scary. To begin with when I was 12 my family wanted to go to South Padre Island, and I
really wanted to go to the beach. As a child any chance of getting in the water and playing with sand
was paradise for me. My family wanted to rent a condo and the perfect place was Isla Grand. When
finally done unpacking and getting our swimsuits on we walked to the back of the place. The sun

Mario Stereotypes
In the movie, there is a scene where Mario is late, and while everyone is cooking, and he comes in
singing an Italian song. He looks all dazed and confused until Martha tells him that he is an hour late
and he just goes back to singing. This scene definitely stereotyped Italians because it is assumed that
Italians are always late. Another example would be when Mario makes spaghetti and starts eating it,
and leaves it with Lina because he had an order to do and he said save some for me and when he gets
back she is eating all of it. There is also a scene where Mario cooks for the staff and he makes them
spaghetti and he tells him that it is his mothers recipe and that he got it from he while she was on her
death bed. Both scenes stereotype

The Paucity of Water and its Effect on Gender Inequality in India
Based on a research survey conducted by the United Nations it reveals that, convenient access to water
and sanitation facilities increase privacy and reduce risk to women and girls of sexual harassment ...
(United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, 2005). Women living at the beginning
and middle points of the village have to trek for a considerable distance to reach the stream, when
compared to those who live at the bottom of the village near the stream. Women are the primary
stakeholders in the fight for clean water as sources such as many rivers and wells are contaminated as
they bear the burden and lack the freedoms that are necessary to ensure equality not inequality.
Women in India have limited access to resources and the ability to express in the public sphere, which
creates division of bearing the burden of responsibilities in the fight against the shortage of water. In
many rural areas in India, women have to walk a distance of about 2.5 kilometers to reach up to the
source of water. Women reach home carrying heavy pots, not to rest but to do other household chores
of cooking, cleaning, caring of children and looking after livestock, and in the evening fetching water.
Thus, a rural woman s life has become sheer drudgery for lack of water. There are many key causes of
the water crisis that are due to: a rapid growth

Human Resource Functions Of The Human Resources Department
Do you remember when you first decided to start a small business. The vision was clear and the
excitement drove us from imagination to plan to reality. But, before we knew it, we went from happily
wading in the waters of our areas of expertise into the deep and sometimes turbulent waves of the
unknown; Human Resources. Human Resource functions include: Payroll, Employment Tax,
Recruitment, Hiring, Employee Relations, Termination, Regulatory Compliance and Training to name
a few. Each of these functions demanded specific skill sets and experience. They also began to expend
valuable time and resources.
The reality is that when reviewing a successful business plan there are two major areas to consider;
Revenue streams and cost centers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is definitely money well spent. Be wary of firms that will provide you with free audits since you
usually get what you pay for. The audit results should tell you exactly where you stand and
specifically provide a HR roadmap to get and keep you on track. Next, ask the most important
question: Do YOU have the expertise, time and interest to actually focus on those areas and do them
well? Finally, consider the risks and rewards of alternative Human Resource solutions.
After twenty five years of providing human resource solutions to hundreds of companies from small
start ups to fortune 100 companies, my advice to many of those firms, especially small and start up
businesses is to maximize their resources by at least partially outsourcing Human Resources. By
outsourcing HR, companies get to focus on what they do best and avoid the hassles and dangers of
managing potentially high risk areas.
Remember, as an entrepreneur you want to maximize productivity, increase revenue and control costs.
Outsourcing Human Resources and other administrative tasks allow management and staff to focus on
core business functions. Most importantly, companies receive high end HR services for less than the
cost of an administrative staff position.
MINIMIZING RISK
A critical component of any small business plan is minimizing risk. When reviewing potential Risk
Management issues consider this; Regulatory Non compliance and Discriminatory practices make up
the majority

Gender Stereotypes In Australian Sport
With being involved in several sports at home it was a big interest to me to learn and be around
Australian sports. Though the States and here have some popular sports in common, Australia has a
few that aren t common back in the states like Rugby, Cricket, and AFL, which are very popular
sports. Sports might seem like an easy topic but underneath there are several things that cause
controversy, like national identity, sexism, and racism.
When someone asks what demographics make you think of Australia you may hear many say beaches,
tan surfers, and kangaroos. And if someone were to ask identify an Australian sport player you might
get a big bulky male rugby player . Things are stereotyped. It is important to recognize that sport in
Australia began almost immediately after the nation was colonized in 1788. Sport reinforced other
views of Australian national identity, which is male dominated. Men and women are equal to one

problem throughout the nation. Currently there is only a men s rugby team on campus however a

starting to put one together. Women s sports are belittled. Women don t get enough respect clearly
being pointed out by the ASC. They have found that media coverage for male sport is at 81 percent
compared to women sport, which is at 8.7 percent. It s astonishing to me that there is such a gap still
in this day and age. Women athletes work just as hard as men. Same goes for the amount women are
paid compared to what men are paid. New.com.au states This means women are currently earning just
81.8 cents for every dollar their male colleagues earn, down from an average of 85.1 cents ten years

moose the baby train rolls in and runs over all the moose throwing the moose all over the place. I step

Causes Of Night Terrors
If you have ever been awakened by someone screaming in panic, heavily sweating, and tossing around
in their sleep, you have most likely experienced someone having night terrors. Night terrors is defined
as a sleep disorder associated with arousal of terror or dread (Healthline). Occasionally, night terrors
can happen to adults, but they are most common in children ages 3 12 (WebMD). However, higher
percentage of children do grow out of night terrors while entering the teenage years. Unlike a
nightmare, victims of night terrors have no recollection of the episode. The triggers of night terrors are
not fully understood. They occur equally between boys and girls and are outgrown by adolescence.
Some theoretical reasons for episodes of night ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Terrors seem to be more common in children with elders who have experienced terrors, it s hereditary.
Night terrors does not only affect children. Adults can be victims, but it is close to rare. Adults who
suffer from night terrors usually have a history of bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, and anxiety
disorders (Sleep Education). If you are unsure if someone is experiencing night terrors, be sure to pay
attention to the symptoms. If the victim begins to sit upright in bed, scream or shout, perform
dangerous actions, are hard to wake up, are confused when woken up, or not able to remember what
took place, they are more than likely suffering from night terrors (Sleep Education). Night terrors are
similar to nightmares, but it does have it s differences. When you have a nightmare, you are able to
remember some or most of the dream and are able to interpret it. With night terrors, the victim has no
recollection on the episode and seem confused when asked about it. In most cases along with night
terrors, victims can suffer from exhaustion. When having an episode of night terrors, you are
unconsciously awake, meaning you don t know you are awake. This can make the body and brain tired

A Report On The Network
In this section, we will see the two networks constructed in Mininet and the flows running through the
network
Flows:
1. A total of 12 simulations were run through the network. Flows were generated between hosts using
the tool D ITG.
2. Traffic generation:
D ITG is used for generating traffic in the network. Random hosts and clients are selected for sending
traffic. To get sufficient delay in the network the link is used up to 100% in case of heavy traffic,
around 70% for medium traffic and 20% for low traffic. The receiver logs are registered for each flow.
Flows nature is UDP as UDP does not re attempt to send a dropped packet. The packet size is fixed to
1024 and number of packets send per second can be changed depending on the traffic requirement.
The following tables give the details of each flow which were simulated for network 1.
The network was created in Mininet. It consists of 12 hosts and 8 OpenV switches. It uses the external
controller which is selected in Mininet python code.
Network 2 is constructed in Mininet. It is a partial tree structure with 11 switches and 12 hosts.
External Floodlight controller is connected to the Mininet network using python code. The controller
is set in a different Virtual machine.
Each KQI will be analyzed for all three algorithms on both the network.
1. Average Delay:
The best performing algorithm for high traffic flows is a latency based algorithm. It gives a minimum
delay of 1.845 sec which is 28% lower than the delay observed

Worldviews serve as the necessary foundation and framework for our thoughts and actions. Our

Horoscopes Persuasive Speech
Have you ever wondered why there is such an evident prejudice against Gemini s? Even if you didn t

logical reason why people target Gemini. People could have just as easily targeted Sagittarius or Leo
but they chose not to. I believe that one thing that made it easier to target Gemini was the fact that the
sign Gemini stands for the constellation of the twins so you could call them two faced . There are
always good and bad people for every sign, so there is no real reason for any stereotype against any

(I can t remember the website now but) A website said that if you believe in astrology wholeheartedly
that is 90% 100% true for you. If you believe on the down low, just dabble here and there, it is most
likely 40% 60% true for you. Finally, if you don t believe at all it would only be 0% 20% true for you.
In some aspects it seems totally fake. The chance of everyone born in the same month as you having
similar traits to you is about as likely as evolution, it can t happen. But if you think about it, I would
say at least half of those people wouldn t believe in astrology at all and maybe 20 ish% would just
believe a little. Though that may be the case, I would still say it is highly unlikely. Most of the tools
used in reading your horoscope I believe are hocus pocus (no pun intended... well maybe a little...).
Things like Tarot Cards, dowsing rods and runes may help you to feel the energy but really all they re
doing is putting on a show. Astrology is definitely not irreducibly complex, and I could probably rip
this apart piece by piece and dive head first into the root of all the stars. [For the sake of my sleep

All Biofuels Are Not Created Equal by David Tilman and...
All Biofuels Are Not Created Equal is a very informative article that everyone should be aware of. The
authors of this article show how biofuels can be made to benefit Earth. Our ecological footprint is so
big that everyone requires 2.5 Earths to maintain the same lifestyle. What does this reveal? It reveals
that Earth s resources are being diminished. This means that the world needs to do something to
prevent this so Earth can last for future generations. The way that biofuels are being made is not very
effective in helping this problem. This is because it either requires deforestation or the burning of
fossil fuels, which the world is trying to stop. Instead of using corn or sugar cane as ethanol,
alternative crops should be used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The great thing about using alternative crops is that they can be grown on less fertile land; such as
land that has been depleted of most of its nutrients from years of farming. The authors participated in
an experiment where they explored the amount of bioenergy that could be produced by planting 18
different native prairie plants on infertile soil. We found, on this highly degraded land, that the plots
planted with mixtures of many native prairie perennial species yielded 238 percent more bioenergy
than those planted with single species (Tilman, Hill). This led them to the conclusion that having high
plant diversity leads to high productivity. These plants also required very little fertilizer. This
experiment was very beneficial because it showed them a new way to make ethanol that is much more
efficient than the way it is currently being made. Using the alternative crops method to make ethanol
also allows them to harvest the crops year after year, since the crops can grow on infertile land.
Making ethanol out of corn, which is what everyone is using now, is not very efficient. But because of
how corn ethanol currently is made, only about 20 percent of each gallon is new energy (Tilman, Hill).
This is because fossil fuels are being burned to harvest the corn, and then to turn the corn into ethanol
in refineries. This method saves very little energy but creates more

Abolitionists Suffragettes
Before the Civil War even started, women were already fighting for their rights. Many started out as
abolitionists, but eventually joined the movement for women s suffrage. The movement continued to
grow throughout the 19th century, while at times uniting with the anti slavery movements in order to
fight for the ultimate right of voting. When the 14th and 15th amendment were passed after the civil
war, the women were blindsided when only black men were granted the right to vote and they were
not even mentioned. Immediately after these amendments, a great divide between the women s

In this case, it was absolutely necessary for women to sacrifice their needs and rights, because if
blacks refused to acknowledge the rights given to them, Congress might not have granted them again.
Although this completely betrayed women, it was a necessary but unfortunate betrayal. Many women
agreed with this, including J Elizabeth Jones, an American suffragist, and abolitionist, who stated,
Shall the loyal disfranchised men... be kept out of their inheritance all that time, because we are
despoiled of ours? Some of them are educated, wealthy... shall we say to them stand back, turn again
into the rugged paths of proscription? She supported women s suffrage, but also understood that they
are fighting the same battle as the women and it is only fair that women wait their turn and let the
blacks enjoy their rights. Also, if the blacks were to not acknowledge their rights, they might not be
able to ensure them in the future. By Congress giving them the rights, the blacks are not doing them
any favors, rather Congress is doing them a favor that might not occur again. On the other hand, Susan
B. Anthony, a prominent leader of the women s suffrage movement, wrote in an abolitionist

Use Of Primary And Secondary Sources
At first glance this book may seemed like just a collection of letters, songs, and inventory lists, but
shortly after entering the first chapter it was abundantly clear that the title is very misleading. Laundry
list s and love songs are but a minuscule, compared to the ample supply of translations that the author
Andrea McDowell has implemented into this collection. Village Life in Ancient Egypt was published
in 1999 by Oxford University Press, A well known source of educational publications. McDowell uses
a small variety, but by no means lacking in quantity, of primary and secondary sources, the majority of
which consisted of translations from either unearthed ostraca, or the less common papyrus. This
Review will discuss the structure of the book, McDowell s use of primary and secondary sources, and
how she gets her argument across. This text contains an abundance of information regarding, roughly
every aspect of village life during the New Kingdom (1570 1070 B.C) in ancient Egypt. The book is
arranged into six chapters including an introduction and an Epilogue. The chapters are: family and
friends; daily life; religion; education, learning, and literature; law and work on the royal tomb. Each
Chapter is introduced with a brief description of its contents and how the aged texts were

John Brown as the Villian or Hero Essay
John Brown as the Villian or Hero
Brown s attack on Harper s Ferry affected American culture more than can ever be understood.
Tension between the North and South was building in the 1850 s. Slavery among many other things
was dividing the country into two sections. Brown was executed on December 2, 1859 for his
murderous out lash on society. Was his mind so twisted and demented that he would commit cold
blooded murder? The answer is no. John Brown was a man with a goal and a purpose. When he said
that abolition could not be achieved without blood he was right. It is one of histories great ironies;
John Brown s struggle preceded the Civil War by only 17 months. Thousands of people were killed in

Brown wanted to do anything he had to in order to abolish slavery. Brown had a great faith in God.
Success had eluded him up to this point. He had sired 20 children and had gone through two wives,
but he still felt unfulfilled. In 1846, Brown was working as a wool merchant but nothing ever came of
it. Before 1855, Brown had gone through a series of lawsuits and bankruptcies that halted his success.
Gerrit Smith, a philanthropist friend of Brown s, was persuaded into giving a portion of the 120,000
acres of land he owned in upstate New York to Brown. This land would be open to refugee negroes.
Brown lived on this land as a farmer for some time before realizing that people were just taking
advantage of him.
In 1850, the Fugitive Slave Law was passed. This law plainly stated that citizens were required to help
slave catchers if inquired upon to do so. This law would make it immensely difficult for slaves to
successfully escape slavery. Slaves would have to be even more careful not to run into the wrong
person.
John Brown along with other northerners were outraged. Many abolitionists protested and claimed this
law was outrageous. The question of whether it was right for the government to force abolitionist to
help slave catchers was asked, Brown knew

Double Strand Breaks (DSB)
Among the many types of DNA damage, one of the most severe is DNA double strand breaks (DSB).
DNA DSBs occur when two complementary strands break simultaneously generating two strands
which are not being held together by base pairing and chromatin structure. Few known causes for
DSB are ionizing radiation, chemical mutagens, reactive oxygen species and drugs which are used for
chemotherapy (Goodsell, 2005). This breakage can cause chromosomal rearrangement such as
translocation and inversion, consequentially resulting in detrimental phenotypic affects. How are these
breaks repaired? DSBs can be repaired through distinct mechanistically set pathways, as shown in
figure 1, such as Homologous recombination repairs (HRR), Non end joining homologous repair
(NHEJ) and more recently discovered Microhomology mediated end joining (MMEJ). HRR uses a
homologous template to accurately repair the broken strand, whereas NHEJ relies on Ku proteins (Fnu
et al., 2011) and DNA ligase to repair DNA double strands, often times causing small insertions or
deletions at the joining site. MMEJ, a more recent finding, uses a 5 25 bp micorohomologous
sequence to align the broken ends simultaneously always causing deletions in the previously broken
strand (McVey and Lee, 2008).
Genomic instability is a trademark of increased risk of cancers with age. This instability arises from
several problems, with one of the main ones being double strand breakage (DSB). HRR, one of the
DSB repair, is a tightly

Comparing Douglas Adams Difficulty With My Life-Style
1. Douglas Adams uses cause and effect to make a persuasive agrument about the relative impact of
the an action by explaining cause and effect is a never ending cycle. Adam s text is shows how people
actions can effect people/things and aren t consciously aware of how this effect people every day life.
There is nothing that can be done to prevent the effects of the actions that are being taken it is just a
part of life. Arthur said, I seem to be having a tremendous difficulty with my life style by Arthur
saying caused a tremendous war that could of been prevented for happening. However that was not the
case, the opponents believe there was only one cause that caused Arthur to feel that certain way about
his life. They did not noticed there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A rhetorial similarity between The Penultimate Peril and The Hitchiker s Guide is both texts argue that
cause and effect have a cycle that keeps going and certain things led to something and than back
again. Peoples actions determine the different outcomes that a person decides to do. Than the
outcomes have other outcomes and that continues to go in a circle. A difference between the two texts
is Adams thinks each individual cause has a specific outcome while Snickets thinks an action can have
many outcomes. In The Hitchiker s Guide the reader can see there is only one cause to why everything
happen he is more specific in his story. In The Penultimate Peril Snickets the reader can see the
mysteries could have been solved in many ways. Snikets follow the basic rule of cause and effect
which shows any effect can have multiple possible causes; the task of cause and effect is to determine
the correct one. Snicket made a metaphor to that when he said, the world is like a calm pond, and that
anytime a person does even the smallest thing, it is as if a stone has dropped into the pond, spreading
circles of ripples further and further out, until the entire world has been changed by one tiny action.
One action can have many possibles to be

Shakespeare s Use of the Idea of Disguise in As You Like It
Shakespeare uses the idea of disguise in many of his plays. It is used as an escape from the characters
personalities and sometimes for comic effect. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes very comical as
in the time it was written only men could act on stage. This could lead to much confusion and comedy
in the roles of those in disguise. Disguise can give the freedom to a character to act how they like and
a chance for them to show their views. It was in the 16th Century that there became an increased sense
of self consciousness and identity. This led to people creating an image for themselves. If one can
create a self, they can create many different versions of themselves each showing a different aspect of
that person. This links in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As she is disguised as Ganymede, this is possible. She would not have been able to do this as a
woman. When she is disguised as a man, more people listen to Ganymede. Although it is the same
person, she can have much more say about her views and opinions when she is disguised as
Ganymede. However, simply because her personality is not accepted as a woman, it does not mean
that she is not presenting it. By showing that she enjoys watching the wrestling, she is revealing her
true personality. She does not have to be disguised as a boy to do this. The disguise may show other
aspects of the character s personality but it is still shown through their everyday person.
Another point to make on this matter would be that the character of Rosalind would have been played
by a male and the audience would know this. This could mean that the reason Shakespeare included
Rosalind s enjoyment of manly sports was because Rosalind is actually a man in the attire of a
woman. There is a large confusion of the gender of Rosalind throughout the play. By confusing the
gender, Shakespeare is focusing more on the personality of Rosalind than her appearance. The
question of gender is continued at the very end of the play. In many of his plays, Shakespeare ends
with an epilogue read by a male character. In As You Like it, the epilogue is performed by Rosalind.
The epilogue seems to be outside the play as if the actor was talking but Rosalind is still in character.
She says herself; It is

Emperor Claudius Essay
Introduction
Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus (b. 10 BC, d. 54 A.D.; emperor, 41 54 A.D.) was the third
emperor of the Julio Claudian dynasty. His reign represents a turning point in the history of the
Principate for a number of reasons, not the least for the manner of his accession and the implications it
carried for the nature of the office. During his reign he promoted administrators who did not belong to
the senatorial or equestrian classes, and was later vilified by authors who did. He followed Caesar in
carrying Roman arms across the English Channel into Britain but, unlike his predecessor, he initiated
the full scale annexation of Britain as a province, which remains today the most closely studied corner
of the Roman Empire. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, Claudius spent his entire childhood and youth in almost complete seclusion. The normal
tasks of an imperial prince came and went without official notice, and Claudius received no summons
to public office or orders to command troops on the frontiers
How he spent the voluminous free time of his youth is revealed by his later character: he read
voraciously. He became a scholar of considerable ability and composed works on all subjects in the
liberal arts, especially history; he was the last person known of who could read Etruscan. These skills,
and the knowledge of governmental institutions he acquired from studying history, were to stand him
in good stead when he came to power.
His father died on campaign when Claudius was only one year old, and his brother, Germanicus,
succumbed under suspicious circumstances in AD 19. His only other sibling to reach adulthood,
Livilla, became involved with Sejanus and fell from grace in AD 31. Through all this turmoil Claudius
survived, primarily through being ignored as an embarrassment and an idiot.
Claudius s fortunes changed somewhat when his unstable nephew, Gaius (Caligula), came to power in
the spring of 37 A.D. Gaius, it seems, liked to use his bookish, frail uncle as the butt of cruel jokes
and, in keeping with this pattern of behavior, promoted him to a consulship on 1 July 37 A.D. At 46
years of age, it was Claudius s first public office. Despite this sortie into public life, he seemed

Good People David Foster Wallace Summary
The Ambiance of Human Decency
How does the setting of Good People by David Foster Wallace contribute to the representation of what
it means to be a good person? The short story includes a myriad of techniques that contribute to the
theme of the text. Wallace explores the concept of human decency and relates the subject to how
certain actions and beliefs affect the value of a person in the story. As the religious characters face the
decision of whether to abort an unborn child, protagonist Lane Dean Jr. seeks an approach that would
make him what he believes to be a good person. Although the story s narration explicitly contributes
to the story s meaning, looking at the tone and symbolism of the static setting makes visible the way
the story communicates its message of what it means to be a good person. The environment of the
peaceful and innocent setting, symbolic meaning behind carefully described objects, and consistency
in the location all serve as examples that contribute to the demonstration of the characters in their
attempt to encounter righteousness. These factors of setting enhance thematic patterns and
implications by using descriptive details of imagery to help the reader closely understand specific
emotions and implied meanings that are crucial to the the story s exploration of human decency.
When introducing and laying the foundation of a story, the setting described has the ability to engage
the reader and paint a picture of the tone

The Role Of Waknuk In The Chrysalids
Waknuk is David s hometown in the story The Chrysalids . The village is located in central Labrador.
It is a small agricultural community which lies in the west of Labrador. They have a maritime climate,
being remotely tropical, without extreme heat. There tend to be a vast amount of forest cover with
many fields making up most of the landscape. The people of Newf and Labrador are the only humans
who retained the pre Tribulation phenotype. The only other known civilizations are vague and
coloured by religious dogma. The Theocracy run government follows the Bible and the Repentances
as a means of guidelines. Run off of the fear of God Himself, the people survive by keeping their race
in the True Image. They do this by having inspectors which

How Did Palladio Influence Architecture
Palladio s influence on architects and recognition
Architectural community as well as public sees Palladio s work as attractive mainly because of the
sheer beauty of his architecture. Beauty that does not have to be explained nor justified. Palladio is
often labelled as the most influential architect in history mainly due to his dominance in architectural
development from Renaissance until present day (Scruton, 2013). Many tried to directly imitate his
work however only Palladio could benefit from prestige on a scale he has received, mostly because he
was the first European architect who worked out many variations on a basic theme to build separate
structures and on his own. Some buildings, built with symmetry in accordance with Palladio, however

His work is often recognised as work around geometrical rules. It s about tight and tidy synthesis
whilst using workable and logical grammar. There are ongoing discussions on what the rules may be
as he only ever described a few, but nonetheless they imply he had an extraordinary mind. Like many
influential artists, Palladio has measured, calculated, mirrored and counted to execute perfection
(Tavernor, 2005). Palladio s plans and facades are hypothesised to be ideal, harmonic. This ideal is
reached by an assembly of ideal shapes and dimensions, whilst taking into an account that some
numbers are more noble in Renaissance than others (Hersey and Freedman, 1992). He used
mathematical tools as devices whilst working on his designs. In order to appreciate his work fully, the
concept of symmetry and proportion is to be viewed as the key to understanding. Palladio s work was
inspired by Roman times, although build with nature in mind. The buildings are regarded as an
exercise in pure form rather than models of themselves, they fulfilled and embodied the ideal and
harmony of the magnificence own to upper class. The high class life in Palladio s buildings became a
standard and was not viewed as anything peculiar or out of place. The reason why this way of life was
widely accepted was that Italy in 16th century was not spiritual nor moral, it was political and

  • 2. Keanu Reeves Research Paper According to Mahatma Gandhi, Be the change you want to see in the world. Keanu Reeves is one of the best well known actors, producers, and musicians in the United State. Reeves has been playing the role of a hero, for he shares his wealth, time, and love with the world. Moreover, Reeves demonstrates that he is a great man for making positive changes in other people s life. For me, Reeves is an incomparable person whom I admire because he is a generous person and a role model: and, he is a sturdy person. When I first saw Reeves in the Matrix movies, I regarded him as an ordinary or typical actor. However, while I was watching a video on YouTube about great and unique artists, some of the truths about Reeves revealed itself to me. Since then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He begins with overcoming objections, such as drug and depression. Although he did not have a father in his life while growing up, he turns out to be a father and provider for children who are in needs and fatherless. Reeves demonstrates he is strong minded by moving forward throughout the challenges and barriers he had to overcome. For example, he chose to make a different path in life after witnessing his best friend die of an overdose. He also overcame depression, even though death follows him like paparazzi in Hollywood. Reeves sister was killed by leukemia; therefore, he funds millions of dollars to charities and hospital to help those who are diagnosed with the disease. Regardless of the Reeves loss of his first born child and lover in a car accident, he chose to love again and helps making other children s life better. In brief, I admire the Reeves role as a provider and giver to those in needs despite his own life tragedies. On the whole, I have many reasons for acknowledging Reeves as one of my most admire artists. When I describe him as generous, model, and sturdy, I feel good because those words also resemble me. He has motivated me, and others alike, to make positive change. Reeves moves me by playing the role I dream of becoming. • 4. The Lack Of Accessibility Of The American Dream Imagine living in a perfect world where people can do what they want with their life; a world without discrimination, where art is just as important as math. Well, it s not going to happen. At least not in the next century. The lack of accessibility of the American dream is especially apparent in the essay by Kesaya Noda, The Four Freedoms by Franklin Roosevelt, Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and an excerpt from The Newsroom . The American dream is inaccessible to the majority of people in America. In the story, a hyphenated American, a Japanese American girl is segregated due To her race: I can see myself today as a person historically defined by law and custom as being forever alien. Being neither free white, nor African, our people in California were deemed aliens, ineligible for citizenship no matter how long the intended to stay here. Aliens ineligible for citizenship were prohibited from owning, buying, or leasing land (Noda). Due to the stereotypes and racism caused by being a minority in America, she is limited in what she can do and therefore cannot achieve what is perceived to be the American dream. Noda expresses how her parents were discriminated against, how they never had the opportunity to achieve the American dream because other people didn t view them as equals when she says our parents were painted as hard workers who were socially uncomfortable and had difficulty expressing even the smallest opinion. Clean, quiet, motivated, and determined to match the American way; that is us, and that is the story of our time here (Noda). Nobody saw her parents as fellow humans and because of it, they didn t even have a chance at living the American dream. What is the American dream? The American dream is what the founding fathers wanted for our country. That perfect life where nobody had to worry about personal and economical safety. When Franklin Roosevelt wrote The Four Freedoms , the American dream is what he was writing about. In his article, Roosevelt states the basic things expected in America: Equality of opportunity for youth and others. Jobs for those who can work. Security for those who need it. The ending of special privilege ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Factors Affecting The Business Organization Introduction: In the process of manufacturing, packaging, marketing and other necessary business activities, businesses interact with internal and external factors which may affect the business and can be affected by the business as well. A combination of both of the factors comprises the business environment in which the business operates. The internal factors refer to the factors those function within the business organization and the business can control or facilitate them as needed. Some prominent internal factors are the working conditions, employees, employer to employee relations, organizational culture and organizational structure etc. For a British American online chain store like ASDA, the total numbers of employees working for the organization (140,000 employees working in 500 stores) is a key internal factor. On the other hand, external recruitment are factors as such as political factors(Laws and regulation system, governmental activities and ownership module, tariffs/ Taxation and trade barriers, conflict between political parties and socio political unrest etc.) Macroeconomic concerns (interest rate, exchange rate of currency, employment rate, unemployment rate, discretionary income, GDP, recessions, depressions, inflation etc.), microeconomic concern (market size, demand and supply diagram, distribution channel and delivery mode etc.), social and technological factors which are not in the control of the business but affect the business by their activities ... Generations are labeled all the time by historians, novelists and journalist in an attempt to capture the spirit or essence of an era. But the term Generation X carries all the negativity of propaganda and stereotype. The term Generation X has become a derisive media batchphrase, a snide put down for those 80 million people who, like me, were born between 1961 and 1981. They are said to be savvy consumers with an annual spending power of 125 billion dollars. Most of which they spend on electronics and computer products. However they have economic problems: the starting wages of entry level jobs are declining, housing cost are so high that 46% are still living with mom or dad. But despite their financial pressures, they are as likely as baby boomers to think about long term savings and retirement plan. To them sex means aids and drugs mean addition. They watched their parents climb the corporate ladder in the 80 s and then when their parents divorced, they grew up quickly and took on household responsibilities. They have learned from their parents mistakes; they are marrying later, having kids later in life and want to spend more time with their own children. In 1992, 40% of Gen Xers were married, in 1970 67% of the same age group of baby boomers were married. Social Marketing Of the hundreds of named brand clothing that form part of the retail and fashion industry I chose to compare, for my analysis, Abercrombie Fitch, Forever 21, American Eagle, and H M. These stores are prominent, well known for selling apparel, shoes, and accessories by the means of offering sales and promotions to their customers. This is a clever strategy for attracting customers, allowing them to believe that they bought goods at affordable, convenient prices and not to mention the prestigious name prescribed to the clothing brands. Using keyhole.co as my main source, I obtained relevant and valuable information regarding the status of these brands. My intentions were to compare a period of 14 days, however, due to the limited access that I received from my free trial, the program only allowed me to see fewer of the dates than I anticipated. I want to take this opportunity and mention ahead of time that due to the various and distinctive products that are sold from these stores, when looking for the spending capacity I decided to focus on shirts/ jeans for men and women and compare the prices among them since each of these retailers carry those items and as a way to make this report easier to contrast and comprehend. This increase displays economic problems that may lead to fatal ones. The penny is composed of 2% copper and 98% zinc. These elements are exponentially in demand causing the price of these materials to skyrocket. Many Americans think the penny is putting our country in jeopardy with financial losses. This meaningless coin is losing money for the mint, and should be abolished. The penny costs 1.4 cents to manufacture each time at the mint. This is causing the mint to lose money for the treasury. It may have been due to the fact that Anton didn t remember, or didn t want to remember the details that remind him of the death of his family members. After he meets Takes he meets Karen Kortweg one of the more important characters in the plot. The Kortweg s were the ones who took Fake Ploeg s body and dragged it in front of Anton s family s house, the Steenwijk residence. Once she goes into detail about the families and her and her father s reasoning s Anton begins to understand and remember the neighbourhood he grew up in and the events of that night. (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, 2005). Women living at the beginning and middle points of the village have to trek for a considerable distance to reach the stream, when compared to those who live at the bottom of the village near the stream. Women are the primary stakeholders in the fight for clean water as sources such as many rivers and wells are contaminated as they bear the burden and lack the freedoms that are necessary to ensure equality not inequality. Women in India have limited access to resources and the ability to express in the public sphere, which creates division of bearing the burden of responsibilities in the fight against the shortage of water. In many rural areas in India, women have to walk a distance of about 2.5 kilometers to reach up to the source of water. Women reach home carrying heavy pots, not to rest but to do other household chores of cooking, cleaning, caring of children and looking after livestock, and in the evening fetching water. Finally, consider the risks and rewards of alternative Human Resource solutions. After twenty five years of providing human resource solutions to hundreds of companies from small start ups to fortune 100 companies, my advice to many of those firms, especially small and start up businesses is to maximize their resources by at least partially outsourcing Human Resources. A total of 12 simulations were run through the network. Flows were generated between hosts using the tool D ITG. 2. Traffic generation: D ITG is used for generating traffic in the network. Random hosts and clients are selected for sending traffic. To get sufficient delay in the network the link is used up to 100% in case of heavy traffic, around 70% for medium traffic and 20% for low traffic. The receiver logs are registered for each flow. Flows nature is UDP as UDP does not re attempt to send a dropped packet. The packet size is fixed to 1024 and number of packets send per second can be changed depending on the traffic requirement. The authors of this article show how biofuels can be made to benefit Earth. Our ecological footprint is so big that everyone requires 2.5 Earths to maintain the same lifestyle. What does this reveal? It reveals that Earth s resources are being diminished. This means that the world needs to do something to prevent this so Earth can last for future generations. The way that biofuels are being made is not very effective in helping this problem. This is because it either requires deforestation or the burning of fossil fuels, which the world is trying to stop. Instead of using corn or sugar cane as ethanol, alternative crops should be used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The great thing about using alternative crops is that they can be grown on less fertile land; such as land that has been depleted of most of its nutrients from years of farming. The authors participated in an experiment where they explored the amount of bioenergy that could be produced by planting 18 different native prairie plants on infertile soil. We found, on this highly degraded land, that the plots planted with mixtures of many native prairie perennial species yielded 238 percent more bioenergy than those planted with single species (Tilman, Hill). This led them to the conclusion that having high plant diversity leads to high productivity. These plants also required very little fertilizer. This experiment was very beneficial because it showed them a new way to make ethanol that is much more efficient than the way it is currently being made. Using the alternative crops method to make ethanol also allows them to harvest the crops year after year, since the crops can grow on infertile land. Making ethanol out of corn, which is what everyone is using now, is not very efficient. But because of how corn ethanol currently is made, only about 20 percent of each gallon is new energy (Tilman, Hill). This is because fossil fuels are being burned to harvest the corn, and then to turn the corn into ethanol in refineries. This method saves very little energy but creates more ... Tension between the North and South was building in the 1850 s. Slavery among many other things was dividing the country into two sections. Brown was executed on December 2, 1859 for his murderous out lash on society. Was his mind so twisted and demented that he would commit cold blooded murder? The answer is no. John Brown was a man with a goal and a purpose. When he said that abolition could not be achieved without blood he was right. Gerrit Smith, a philanthropist friend of Brown s, was persuaded into giving a portion of the 120,000 acres of land he owned in upstate New York to Brown. This land would be open to refugee negroes. Brown lived on this land as a farmer for some time before realizing that people were just taking advantage of him. In 1850, the Fugitive Slave Law was passed. This law plainly stated that citizens were required to help slave catchers if inquired upon to do so. This law would make it immensely difficult for slaves to successfully escape slavery. Slaves would have to be even more careful not to run into the wrong person. John Brown along with other northerners were outraged. Many abolitionists protested and claimed this law was outrageous. • 33. Double Strand Breaks (DSB) Among the many types of DNA damage, one of the most severe is DNA double strand breaks (DSB). DNA DSBs occur when two complementary strands break simultaneously generating two strands which are not being held together by base pairing and chromatin structure. Few known causes for DSB are ionizing radiation, chemical mutagens, reactive oxygen species and drugs which are used for chemotherapy (Goodsell, 2005). This breakage can cause chromosomal rearrangement such as translocation and inversion, consequentially resulting in detrimental phenotypic affects. How are these breaks repaired? DSBs can be repaired through distinct mechanistically set pathways, as shown in figure 1, such as Homologous recombination repairs (HRR), Non end joining homologous repair (NHEJ) and more recently discovered Microhomology mediated end joining (MMEJ). HRR uses a homologous template to accurately repair the broken strand, whereas NHEJ relies on Ku proteins (Fnu et al., 2011) and DNA ligase to repair DNA double strands, often times causing small insertions or deletions at the joining site. MMEJ, a more recent finding, uses a 5 25 bp micorohomologous sequence to align the broken ends simultaneously always causing deletions in the previously broken strand (McVey and Lee, 2008). Adam s text is shows how people actions can effect people/things and aren t consciously aware of how this effect people every day life. There is nothing that can be done to prevent the effects of the actions that are being taken it is just a part of life. Arthur said, I seem to be having a tremendous difficulty with my life style by Arthur saying caused a tremendous war that could of been prevented for happening. However that was not the case, the opponents believe there was only one cause that caused Arthur to feel that certain way about his life. They did not noticed there ... A rhetorial similarity between The Penultimate Peril and The Hitchiker s Guide is both texts argue that cause and effect have a cycle that keeps going and certain things led to something and than back again. Peoples actions determine the different outcomes that a person decides to do. Than the outcomes have other outcomes and that continues to go in a circle. A difference between the two texts is Adams thinks each individual cause has a specific outcome while Snickets thinks an action can have many outcomes. In The Hitchiker s Guide the reader can see there is only one cause to why everything happen he is more specific in his story. In The Penultimate Peril Snickets the reader can see the mysteries could have been solved in many ways. Snikets follow the basic rule of cause and effect which shows any effect can have multiple possible causes; the task of cause and effect is to determine the correct one. Snicket made a metaphor to that when he said, the world is like a calm pond, and that anytime a person does even the smallest thing, it is as if a stone has dropped into the pond, spreading circles of ripples further and further out, until the entire world has been changed by one tiny action. • 40. Shakespeare s Use of the Idea of Disguise in As You Like It Shakespeare uses the idea of disguise in many of his plays. It is used as an escape from the characters personalities and sometimes for comic effect. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes very comical as in the time it was written only men could act on stage. This could lead to much confusion and comedy in the roles of those in disguise. Disguise can give the freedom to a character to act how they like and a chance for them to show their views. It was in the 16th Century that there became an increased sense of self consciousness and identity. This led to people creating an image for themselves. If one can create a self, they can create many different versions of themselves each showing a different aspect of that person. This links in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As she is disguised as Ganymede, this is possible. She would not have been able to do this as a woman. When she is disguised as a man, more people listen to Ganymede. Although it is the same person, she can have much more say about her views and opinions when she is disguised as Ganymede. However, simply because her personality is not accepted as a woman, it does not mean that she is not presenting it. By showing that she enjoys watching the wrestling, she is revealing her true personality. She does not have to be disguised as a boy to do this. The disguise may show other aspects of the character s personality but it is still shown through their everyday person. Another point to make on this matter would be that the character of Rosalind would have been played by a male and the audience would know this. This could mean that the reason Shakespeare included Rosalind s enjoyment of manly sports was because Rosalind is actually a man in the attire of a woman. There is a large confusion of the gender of Rosalind throughout the play. By confusing the gender, Shakespeare is focusing more on the personality of Rosalind than her appearance. The question of gender is continued at the very end of the play. In many of his plays, Shakespeare ends with an epilogue read by a male character. In As You Like it, the epilogue is performed by Rosalind. The epilogue seems to be outside the play as if the actor was talking but Rosalind is still in character. She says herself; It is ... • 41. Emperor Claudius Essay Introduction Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus (b. 10 BC, d. 54 A.D.; emperor, 41 54 A.D.) was the third emperor of the Julio Claudian dynasty. His reign represents a turning point in the history of the Principate for a number of reasons, not the least for the manner of his accession and the implications it carried for the nature of the office. During his reign he promoted administrators who did not belong to the senatorial or equestrian classes, and was later vilified by authors who did. He followed Caesar in carrying Roman arms across the English Channel into Britain but, unlike his predecessor, he initiated the full scale annexation of Britain as a province, which remains today the most closely studied corner of the Roman Empire. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, Claudius spent his entire childhood and youth in almost complete seclusion. The normal tasks of an imperial prince came and went without official notice, and Claudius received no summons to public office or orders to command troops on the frontiers How he spent the voluminous free time of his youth is revealed by his later character: he read voraciously. He became a scholar of considerable ability and composed works on all subjects in the liberal arts, especially history; he was the last person known of who could read Etruscan. These skills, and the knowledge of governmental institutions he acquired from studying history, were to stand him in good stead when he came to power. His father died on campaign when Claudius was only one year old, and his brother, Germanicus, succumbed under suspicious circumstances in AD 19. His only other sibling to reach adulthood, Livilla, became involved with Sejanus and fell from grace in AD 31. Through all this turmoil Claudius survived, primarily through being ignored as an embarrassment and an idiot. Claudius s fortunes changed somewhat when his unstable nephew, Gaius (Caligula), came to power in the spring of 37 A.D. Gaius, it seems, liked to use his bookish, frail uncle as the butt of cruel jokes and, in keeping with this pattern of behavior, promoted him to a consulship on 1 July 37 A.D. At 46 years of age, it was Claudius s first public office. Despite this sortie into public life, he seemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Good People David Foster Wallace Summary The Ambiance of Human Decency How does the setting of Good People by David Foster Wallace contribute to the representation of what it means to be a good person? The short story includes a myriad of techniques that contribute to the theme of the text. Wallace explores the concept of human decency and relates the subject to how certain actions and beliefs affect the value of a person in the story. As the religious characters face the decision of whether to abort an unborn child, protagonist Lane Dean Jr. seeks an approach that would make him what he believes to be a good person. Although the story s narration explicitly contributes to the story s meaning, looking at the tone and symbolism of the static setting makes visible the way the story communicates its message of what it means to be a good person. The environment of the peaceful and innocent setting, symbolic meaning behind carefully described objects, and consistency in the location all serve as examples that contribute to the demonstration of the characters in their attempt to encounter righteousness. These factors of setting enhance thematic patterns and implications by using descriptive details of imagery to help the reader closely understand specific emotions and implied meanings that are crucial to the the story s exploration of human decency. • 44. How Did Palladio Influence Architecture Palladio s influence on architects and recognition Architectural community as well as public sees Palladio s work as attractive mainly because of the sheer beauty of his architecture. Beauty that does not have to be explained nor justified. Palladio is often labelled as the most influential architect in history mainly due to his dominance in architectural development from Renaissance until present day (Scruton, 2013). Many tried to directly imitate his work however only Palladio could benefit from prestige on a scale he has received, mostly because he was the first European architect who worked out many variations on a basic theme to build separate structures and on his own. It s about tight and tidy synthesis whilst using workable and logical grammar. There are ongoing discussions on what the rules may be as he only ever described a few, but nonetheless they imply he had an extraordinary mind. Like many influential artists, Palladio has measured, calculated, mirrored and counted to execute perfection (Tavernor, 2005). Palladio s plans and facades are hypothesised to be ideal, harmonic. This ideal is reached by an assembly of ideal shapes and dimensions, whilst taking into an account that some numbers are more noble in Renaissance than others (Hersey and Freedman, 1992). He used mathematical tools as devices whilst working on his designs. In order to appreciate his work fully, the concept of symmetry and proportion is to be viewed as the key to understanding. Palladio s work was inspired by Roman times, although build with nature in mind. The buildings are regarded as an exercise in pure form rather than models of themselves, they fulfilled and embodied the ideal and harmony of the magnificence own to upper class. The high class life in Palladio s buildings became a standard and was not viewed as anything peculiar or out of place. The reason why this way of life was widely accepted was that Italy in 16th century was not spiritual nor moral, it was political and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
