The Imf And The Crisis
The IMF and the Crisis in Greece
The IMF is one of a number of international organizations whose work is aimed at preventing
economic crisis and rebuilding economies. According to the Levin Institute, both the IMF and the
World Bank were started after WW2 in response to concerns about the stability of economic markets
around the world. While the World Bank now has a focus projects and sustainable development, the
IMF is primarily focused on fiscal policy with lending practices that are focused on crisis
management. Loans that come with significant conditions attached, including significant changes to
fiscal and monetary policy in the borrowing nation (Levin, n.d).
There are many examples of IMF projects that garnered heavy criticism in recent years. Brazil,
Argentina, Turkey, Korea, and Indonesia are a few examples, and now we can add Greece to the list.
The IMF invested in Greece in 2010 and in 2013, and have openly recognized that they misjudged the
effect austerity would have on the Greek economy (Elliot, L., Inman, P., Smith, H., 2013). They issued
a report that identified Notable failures , including failure in restoring market confidence, the banks 30
percent loss in deposits, high unemployment, waiting too long to restructure the nation s debt, and a
deepening of the recession (IMF recognizes notable failures in Greek bailout, 2013).
Current State of the Greek Crisis
Last summer, Greek banks were closed and citizens unable to withdraw funds from ATMs in

English Language Instruction:
The Nepali Educational System
Kelsey Wolff
Linguistics 371: World Englishes
Felicia Jean Steele
March 23, 2015
The necessity for a global language has always existed to break down the barriers between nations and
for communication to create a sense of a global community. English is quickly filling that niche, and
instruction in English as a second language is expanding worldwide to places such as Nepal. Nepal is
a land locked country located in Southern Asia bordered by China in the north and India in the south,
east, and west with varying geographical areas, from high mountains to low lying plains (Weinberg,
61). The implementation of the instruction of English ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there have been some educational policies passed to enforce the study of English, the
establishment of English as a second language in Nepal has been limited due to resource shortages,
poor training of teachers, and the prevalence of varying local mother languages, which makes
instruction in English difficult. Additionally, English has created a rift between the social classes as
good English language education is usually only available to those students who come from an
influential family. For these reasons, as opposed to being treated as a second language, English is still
treated as foreign language in Nepal.
The country of Nepal is home to approximately twenty seven million people, with ninety two different
identified languages spread across the numerous ethnic groups. About eighty seven percent of the
country s population speak one of the five major languages: Nepali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tharu, and
Tamang (Weinberg, 62). However, Nepali is spoken as a primary language by about half of the total
population. Out of the ninety two identified languages, fifty nine each have less than ten thousand
speakers (Bista, 2). The total population speaking these fifty nine languages is about point five
percent, with the majority of these non dominant languages in danger of becoming extinct because of
the declining population of speakers (Ghimire, 1). Additionally, the language of Nepali is used in legal
affairs, business transactions, mass media,

Jonbenet Ramsey Murder Case
Jonbenet Ramsey was bashed or hit in the head with a flashlight, asphyxiated with a garrote, and
sexually assaulted. It was almost impossible for someone to go through the window without
destructing or disturbing the spider s web in the bottom left corner of the window. There was no sign
of intrusion or an outside break into the Ramseys house. If it was an outside intrusion, there would ve
been access to the house and Jonbenet would have had to know the person doing so. The murder scene
looked to be staged or looked to be deceiving.
The murder is known to be at night, not long after Burke Ramsey had a late night snack of pineapple
and milk and a glass of tea. The murder might have been placed anywhere in the house of the Ramsey
s. Jonbenet was found in the basement or the wine cellar eight hours after the 911 call was placed by
Patsy Ramsey. After the body was found by John Ramsey and Fleet White, they disturbed the crime
scene and moved Jonbenet out of the basement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Burke had pineapple and milk and a glass of tea and Jonbenet was thought to have stolen one which
could ve sparked the motive to kill out of anger. The bowl of pineapple and glass of tea was clearly
unfinished which seemed to look like there was something that interrupted the consumption of the
pineapple. John Mark Karr was a pedophile, fantasized over Jonbenet, and was charged with
possession of child pornography. Gary Olivia had a picture of Jonbenet in his backpack and Michael

Rose Pesotta And The Garment Workers Movement Analysis
Rose Pesotta the vice president of International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) achieved
what many believe to be impossible, to organize a large group of primarily Mexican immigrant
workers in the garment industry. In her arrival to Los Angeles in 1933 she quickly perceive the
constraints she would have to work under, from language barriers all the way to patriarchal
challenges. The Garment Worker Movement really connected with her personally because just like
her, the Los Angeles dressmakers were primarily women who were suspicious of the white world and
were strongly expected to fail. She too was an immigrant woman working for a union that didn t give
her much recognition or help because of her sex. The Garment Worker Movement was a struggle that
had built up over the year from enduring all types of violence, because the system structure has been
oppressing women for many years it was believe change couldn t happen, it wasn t until Pesotta s
tactics and strategies to organize that proved everyone who believed that Mexicans couldn t organize
wrong. Both Pesotta and the garment workers were fighting a battle against patriarchy. The Garment
Workers Movement lead by Rose Pesotta was a result of many years of struggle. This workers were
silently suffering from structural violence and institutional violence not only from their employer but
also from the ILGWU. In the article Gender, Class, or Ethno Cultural Struggle? The Problematic

San Diego City Analysis
As a person who has now lived in San Diego for over 22 years and a Latino, it is impossible not to see
the medley of direct influences of Hispanic culture in this border town. Because Hispanic people
heavily populate the city and it s proximity to Mexico, representations of this thriving culture can be
found in the city s art, food, religion, architecture, economy, and politics. To get a better understanding
of this, we must start at the beginning.
Californio is a term used to identify a Spanish speaking, mostly Roman Catholic people, or of Latin

Challenges Of Children With Hiv
Challenges of Children with HIV
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is widely recognized as a biological and medical problem for
individuals that have this illness, but the psychosocial aspects of this disease also creates serious
issues for these individuals. The population of American children and adolescents living with HIV
face a range of psychosocial challenges which stem from a combination of biological,
socioeconomical, psychological, and cultural factors. For younger children, some challenges are
related to the parent s status as HIV positive, along with other parental factors that can also contribute
to chronic problems. While medication is available to treat HIV and the subsequent disease that it
causes, autoimmune deficiency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, HIV continues to impact youth between 13 to 24 disproportionately; around 39,000 people
in this age group are living with HIV, and this age group constitutes some 21% of new cases, or
around 3,000 per year (CDC, 2014). Unlike HIV incidence rates for the population as a whole, which
have decreased over time, the incidence rates for youth over 13 have actually increased with time, in
part because 60% of youth are not yet aware they are infected, as compared to 15% of adults with HIV
(CDC, 2014). For any youth under 18, though, living with HIV involves a set of complex
psychosocial challenges that can drastically impact treatment, health, and quality of life outcomes. The
uniqueness and gravity of these issues, along with the size of the affected population, mean that the
psychosocial aspects of HIV must be treated as critical considerations in disease management in this
population.
Parental Factors
For infants and young children living with HIV, some of the most prominent psychosocial issues are
related to parental factors, including factors in the medical, economic, and behavioral areas. The
presence or absence of HIV infection in young children and infants born to a mother with HIV can
have socioeconomic influences. Combination therapies involving antiretroviral drugs during
pregnancy have been shown to

I Am Nietzsche
Nietzsche even goes as far to say that Descartes statement, I think therefore I am, is not as
individualized as it should have been. The intention is that Descartes is still articulating his statement
of thought through language is because he already had a notion of what thinking meant. And
Nietzsche claims, If I had not already decided that matter within myself, by what standard could I
determined that what was happening is not perhaps willing or feeling ? (Nietzsche 46). This way of
thinking through the construction of language worries Nietzsche because if Descartes was misled by
this, then it could be true that people are frequently mislead by language. It is not language itself that
is evil, however, the illustration of Descartes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While there is no right or wrong answer to which author s idea holds is superior to the question of
language being a burden or an aid to societies, it would seem in contemporary society people need a
form of communication that language has to fill. While Nietzsche makes a definite point on how
language becomes a tool to deindividualize people, it can only be to a certain extent that they evade
their uniqueness. Humans must have a way to use language if they are to live in a community even if
that language is not fully illustrative of their true feelings. The time that Nietzsche wrote Beyond
Good and Evil was not much earlier than when Gadamer thought of his works, but the world had some
severe changes in the meantime. Two world wars and a growing world population marks for large
differences in the two authors works. Nietzsche s criticism of language is more valid within smaller
communities which were more likely during his time. Although, by the time Gadamer wrote his works
the world was much more colonized and mass communication could have been probable without

King Stephen King Reflection
The video Stephen King on Childhood changed the way I look at things. He claims, the things that
really scare us are the things that are going on just outside the spotlight that you can t quite see (
Stephen King on Childhood ). The video starts off with Stephen King talking about a day he was
walking and came across a little girl on the side of the street drawing in the dirt talking to herself or an
imaginary person. Then, he thought to himself, If I did that, somebody would come along and say
there s a grown man sitting in the dirt, talking to himself to people who aren t there and drawing with
a stick ( Stephen King on Childhood ). If I saw a grown man doing that, I would be a little creeped
out. If a little kid was doing it, I would think that was a normal thing for kids to do. He is talking about
how when we are kids, we can think, imagine, and dream about whatever we want because there are
no limits. When we start growing up, we realize what reality is. We snap into this new mode and
change the way we think, imagine, and dream. When I was a kid, I would think the most bizarre
things, like when I would connect anything to a face, like cars, buildings, clouds, houses, etc. I would
try to explain it to my parents they would think I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about.
Next, the interviewer, Thomas Smith, asks Stephen, Did you have a highly developed sense of evil
yourself as a child or were you obsessed by the nature of evil? (Stephen King on Childhood). King
then goes on to ask why people ask about his childhood. He does not remember having an unusual
childhood. Then, because of him not remembering, something bad must have happened when he was a
kid. King then goes on to talk about, I think a lot of people make the assumption that we block
memories that are terrible. When I think what really happens is this: that we think in a different way as
children. we tend to think around corners instead of in straight lines. sometimes for a kid, the shortest
distance between two points is not a straight line and that s the way that we think and dream (Stephen
King on Childhood). He says he uses this thought to connect childhood memories to his paranormal
present time stories. I think that

Florence Research Paper
There are numerous arts and architecture that celebrate the medieval and the Renaissance history of
Florence. Florence has a past not known to many, you could say it s the untold history that dates back
to the Roman empire. Before the Medici s rise to power, the books of Machiavelli and Dante, and the
David s sculpted by Michelangelo and Donatello Florence was a Roman republic. Their influence on
the city is overlooked and forgotten in books. The intention of this research paper is to shed some light
on that forgotten past, to uncover the traces of Roman empire in Florence and the thrilling stories of
some of the games in the Colosseum.

The Possibly Detrimental Effects of Cardiac Arrhythmia
Cardiac arrhythmia is defined as, a condition in which the heart s normal rhythm is disrupted
(Scholarpedia). A heart usually beats anywhere from 60 to 100 times a minute. If there is a palpation
or a fluttering rarely, the person should usually be fine. If these occur more often or on a frequent
manner, this cardiac arrhythmia could be very severe (Hopkinsmedicine). The hearts electrical system
is what controls the speed and pace of the heartbeat (NHLBI,NIH). Sinoatrial node or SA node is
located in the right atrium and controls the rhythm of the heart. The SA node is cardiac muscle cells,
and it acts as a pacemaker. Sinus rhythm is the regular heart rhythm (Scholarpedia). Atrial tachycardia
is when the heart beats too fast. On the other hand, bradycardia is when the heart beats too slowly. The
heart can also beat irregularly (Hopkinsmedicine). The electrical signal goes from the SA node to the
left and right atria. This allows the atria to pump and contract blood to the ventricles. Then, the signal
goes to the atrioventricular or AV node. The electrical signal slows down here, so the ventricles have
time to fill themselves with blood. After the AV node, the electrical signal goes to the bundle of His,
where the signal is eventually transported to the ventricles. In this phase, the signal causes the
ventricles to contract and pump blood to the lungs and the other parts of the body (NHLBI, NIH). The
reason I described this whole process was for the reader to

Felis Cat Research Paper
The scientific name for a cat is Felis Catus.
Most house cats although they re much safer inside from disease and danger tend to be overweight and
underactive. Cats like people and dogs benefit from being both fit and active. Exercise is a need for
your cat s mental and physical health because it relieves stress and boredom, improves circulation,
builds muscle, and can prevent or reduce behavioral problems. Cats like movement so the toy must be
one that can move rapidly and in unpredictable ways just like a mouse or bird. Cats like to scratch and

The reason for this is because the cats eyes have tapetum lucidum, which reflects any light that passes
through the retina.
Cats also have awesome hearing. They can hear high pitched sounds better than dogs or humans. They
can detect frequencies from 55 Hz to 79,000 Hz. A range of 10.5 octaves, while humans and dogs
have ranges of about 9 octaves. Cats can hear ultrasound which is important while hunting because
many rodents make ultrasonic calls.
Cats have a very good sense of smell due to their well developed olfactory bulb. Cats are sensitive to
pheromones such as 3 mercapto 3 methylbutan 1 ol, which they use to communicate through urine
spraying and marking with scent glands. Many cats also respond strongly to catnip. About 70% 80%
are affected.
Cats have fewer taste buds compared to humans. Cats have 470 while humans have 9,000 on the
human tongue.
The average cat lifespan is 15 years old. Although the oldest living cat was Creme Puff, which lives

Societal Values In Social Work
Being in a social work field, ethical principles and values are significant. Societal values can be
similar to social work ethics, but they can also differ. Our own beliefs may go completely against the
Social Work Code of Ethics. At the same time, they also may align with the ethics perfectly. Out of the
seven societal values that we were given, I have lined them up with the social work principle values
like this: integrity with integrity; importance of human relationships with privacy; social justice with
equality and social justice; dignity and worth of the person with cultural diversity and freedom; lastly
competence with knowledge building.
According to the NASW Code of Ethics (2008), Social workers behave in a trustworthy manner. The
societal value that falls under this principle is integrity. I feel like this societal value is the same as the
ethical principles and values. Social workers act honestly and responsibly and promote ethical
practices (NASW, 2008). This standard is important in being honest and having solid moral principles
which comply with integrity. Integrity is crucial to both societal values and social work principles.
Another important societal value that also aligns with NASW Code of Ethics in privacy. Privacy falls
under importance of human relationships. Social workers seek to strengthen relationships among
people in a purposeful effort (NASW, 2008). Every client and every person want privacy and they
deserve it. This ethical standard

The United States And Philippine Government Essay
In modern times, the Philippines has been a central ally in the United States Asian and Pacific policies.
The government structure is similar to that of the United States, including a legislative, judicial,
executive branch that independent in their roles. Since becoming a nation independent from the United
States, the Philippines has seen its share of success and failure. In the past three years the government
has dealt with natural disasters, terrorism, and Chinese aggression. While the Philippine and United
States governments have generally been cordial and cooperative, the Philippine president is currently
weighing the decision to cut ties with the United States and align his country with China.
Current Events
Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement
In 2014 the United States and Philippine governments signed the Enhanced Defense Cooperation
Agreement. This ten year agreement would allow the United States to deploy personnel for extended
stays in the Philippines. The agreement also allows the United States to build and operate facilities on
Philippine military bases for joint use by the United States and Philippine Forces (Eilperin, 2014). The
Philippine government was open to this deal due to the rising tensions with China over disputed
islands in the South China Sea. Within the Philippines, this deal was easier to establish due to the
humanitarian response by the United States military in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan. While the

The Regulation Of Lgbt Orientation
It takes no compromise to give people their rights...it takes no money to respect the individual. It takes
no political deal to give people freedom. It takes no survey to remove repression (Milk). The
regulation of LGBT* discrimination in various environments varies by jurisdiction. Many states have
established rules that prohibit bias in hiring, promotion, job assignment, termination, compensation
and general harassment based on sexual orientation. However, very few of these protections extend to
cover sexual identity. The repercussions of these limited protections surfaced from the very beginning
in the form of discrimination, attacks and abuse of LGBT* citizens. In fact, over half of US workers in
today s labor force work in a state where it is perfectly legal to fire someone or refuse them
employment based on their gender or sexual orientation. Society likes to pretend as though these
violent attacks have lessened through the years, though the truth of the matter is that, over the last ten
years, though hate crimes in general have gone down, the percentage of hate crime victims targeted
based on sexual orientation or gender is on the rise. Many incredible activists have made monumental
attempts at understanding the nature of these hate crimes and this discrimination in modern America.
However, even the most incredible scholars cannot completely comprehend the nature of the violence

Ancient Greek And Greek History
In ancient Greek, hundreds of city state called polis was developed throughout the area. Polis means
an independent community of citizens inhabiting a city and the countryside around it (Hunt, 51).
Being in mountainous and island region, many were isolated from each other, and often hostile to each
other. They maintained constant conflicts between polis throughout ancient Greek history. They never
became a nation. Among many polis, Athens and Sparta are the most famous ancient Greek polis
known to modern history. They were unique in terms of political systems as well as its culture. Even
though they had same cultural background such as same language or same religions, their political
systems were very different. There were three types of political systems adapted by ancient Greek.
Athens had democracy while Sparta had Oligarchy. Corinth had Tyranny. The comparison between
Sparta and Athens in terms of political system as well as cultural background will be discussed in this
research paper. In ancient Greek, polis has two different meaning. First, polis means literally a city, an
urban settlement, and a social boundary. Second, polis also has meaning of a state, and a political
organization. The polis in ancient Greek has both meaning, as a city as well as a state and political
entity. Each polis has chosen different political system. Sometimes, they changed their political system

Relationship Between The Child And The Parent
Literature Review
McDonald, Bowker, Rubin, Laursen, and Duchene (2010) stated that according to attachment theory
(Bowlby, 1969), the relationship between the child and the parent originates from a behavioral system
that is noticeable by the infant s need for safety, security, and support from their caregiver. Parents
function as both a secure place for their child to discover their surrounding world and safe place in
which they can return to the comfort and safety when they experience fear or discomfort (Ainsworth
et al., 1978). If parents are thoughtful and respond to their child s needs, the child is more prone to
develop feelings of security, social ability to explore their environment, need and want love and
support, and develop social relationships that are positive (McDonald et al., 2010). Many researchers
have learned that positive, warm, and supportive parental relationships develop positive, healthy,
social and emotional growth for their children during childhood and adolescence (McDonald et al.,
2010). More importantly, anxiety and depression during childhood and adolescence is correlated with
the view that the relationship with parents has not been supportive and thoughtful (Nolan et al., 2003).
It has been suggested that when parents demonstrate behaviors that are cold, aggressive and
unsupportive, the child and adolescent feelings of security and self image may suffer increasing
weakness (McDonald et al., 2010).

If the corporate entity wrongs the constitutional rights of others, shouldn t the state that chartered the
corporation be held accountable in some way?
Moving forward, who then should hold the state governments accountable for their corporate entities
misbehaving overseas if the state governments do nothing to remedy the situation? Since the US
Congress has the Constitutional authority to regulate commerce... among the several States as well as
with foreign Nations, (Article 1, Section 8 of the US Constitution) should it not also have authority
over states involved (via their corporate entities) in foreign commerce with citizens and businesses of
other nations? Werther and Chandler raise the question of whether or not U.S. courts should be
expanding their jurisdiction, or should these cases be a matter of U.S. foreign and trade policy?
Regardless of one s opinion, since the State governments bring the corporations into existence, they
should be responsible for the actions taken by their corporations.

(p108, 115, 139, Preface). Lucretius includes this to deliver the message that humans are no different
than any other thing that is created, as we are all made of the same atoms. Another idea set forth, one
of the main points, is that there is no God or divine being, and that religious groups are full of delusion
and Religions are invariably cruel (p2 of 164, Chapter 8). Lucretius states that the structure itself is
cruel, as well as the fact that angels and demons don t exist (chapter 8). There are many other key
points, but the second to last one I will include here is in my opinion one of the most important, and
that is the idea that Lucretius includes about pleasure and pain. The greatest obstacle to pleasure is not
pain it is delusion (p4 of 164, Chapter 8) He goes on to say that people are unhappy and limit their
lives by trying so hard to get to heaven, and having a fear they won t, and having a fear of not going to
heaven. Lucretius doesn t believe in heaven or hell, and does believe we are all made of atoms and
particles that when we die will simply disappear, so there is nothing to fear and death is nothing to
fear. (Chapter 8) Additionally, Lucretius claims that it is that fear of not going to heaven and the fear
that people aren t doing what is necessary to get into heaven, that gives religious groups and leaders
power. He claims it is that fear that makes people dedicated to their religion, and furthermore that
souls do not exist either. (Chapter 8) Following this, Lucretius also claims that Understanding the
nature of things leads to wonder . Lucretius believes that knowing all of these claims he s making,
specifically that, the universe consists of atoms and void and nothing else, that the world was not
made for us

Summary Of Kitchen By Banana Yoshimoto
In the novel Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto, Yoshimoto demonstrates that family is important when
coping with the difficulties of life. Yoshimoto shows this through the usage of the contrast of light and
dark, and the motifs of the kitchen, and food. One motif that used is food, which is used to represent
the presence of family, and how that aides coping. Yoshimoto uses the motif of the kitchen to
represent the ability of the family to help another family member cope. Yoshimoto uses the contrast of
light and dark to show that as the characters shift from feeling grief to joy, people who can be
considered family are involved. Yoshimoto uses the motifs of food and the kitchen along with the
contrast between dark and light to show that family is important when coping with the troubles of life.
Yoshimoto uses the motif of food to show that family can help cope with life s troubles. One example
of food representing family helping to cope, is when Mikage creates an international hodge podge
(Yoshimoto 62) for Yuichi after the death of Eriko. Before Mikage re entering Yuichi s life, Yuichi has
been drinking for a month (Yoshimoto, 63) which can be associated with the lots of instant dinners: a
clear indication of his recent eating habits (Yoshimoto, 60). Yuichi s terrible life style can be
associated with the instant dinners that are cheap and poorly made. However, after Mikage re enters
his life and cooks an international hodge podge (Yoshimoto, 62), that takes two hours

Third Grade Classrooms and Foldables
Introduction Good educators, especially in the lower levels of education, are always looking for
effective ways to improve students learning and interest in subjects that may not be as appealing. Any
activity that promotes reading and encourages critical thinking is especially valued by teachers
(Angus, 1993). One of the key developments promoted by Zike is the use of Foldables in the
classroom (2007). These are three dimensional hands on manipulative/graphic organizers. Foldables
can quickly organize, display and arrange data making it easier for students to grasp concepts,
theories, processes, facts, and ideas, or to sequence events as outlined in the content standards. They
can result in student made study guides that are compiled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results and Conclusions Initially the pretest scores of the two groups were compared to ensure that
they had equivalent attitudes toward social studies, which they were. The changes in scores from
pretest to posttest for each group (Lecture/Worksheet and Foldables) were then compared using a
paired samples t test. Casteel researched that the Lecture/Worksheet group had a .69 point mean gain
from pretest to posttest, which was not statistically significant, while the Foldables group had a 2.67
point mean gain from pretest to posttest, which was statistically significant (2006). This study was
designed to compare the effectiveness of two teaching methods (Lecture/Worksheet and Foldables).
The Lecture/Worksheet and Foldables groups had equivalent pretest scores, meaning they were
equivalent in attitudes toward social studies at the beginning of the units. Only those taught with
Foldables had a significant increase from pretest to posttest on affective scores (Casteel, 2006). The
experimental data indicated that Foldables are a promising alternative to the traditional method of
Lecture/Worksheet. Using Foldables significantly improved students attitudes toward the material
(Zike, 2007). Additionally, teachers who participated in the study commented about the improvement
in attitudes when using the Foldables. Furthermore, several teachers

Analysis Of Without Faith, There Is No Freedom
Without Faith, There is No Freedom
In the Bible, the book of Hebrews states, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the
evidence of things not seen (King James Bible, Hebrews. 11.1).The spiritual tones of things hoped for
, plays a significant role throughout Olaudah Equiano autobiography, The Interesting Narrative of the
Life of Olaudah Equiano OR, Gustavus Vassa, The African . His narrative was originally published in
1789 and went through a series of revisions throughout his lifetime, finally becoming a bestseller.
Equiano s treasured writings, depicts his personal accounts from childhood, holding the status of an
African aristocrat in Benin West Africa, to being kidnapped and forced into slavery in the infamous
Middle Passage slave trade. While slavery attempts to divest Equiano of his hope for freedom, his
narrative asserts that spirituality and literary works produce its own liberty and identity in the world.
From the inception of this narrative, the reader learns quickly how Equiano plans to escape the
bondage of slavery. Part of the dehumanizing nature of slavery is to strip the slaves of their natural
identity and substitute it with a falsehood that can be controlled and render them powerless. His
autobiography shows us a slave who discovers how to obtain his freedom through his own spiritual
empowerment. In Equiano s introductory quote, his engagement with the reader expresses his
profound confidence in God. He attests to his faith with Bible

Essay On George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four
George Orwell s, Nineteen Eighty Four describes the dystopian society of Oceania which resembles
several aspects of Nazi Germany when under the reign of Adolf Hitler. The novel and Nazi Germany
have several similar characteristics. Both Oceania and Nazi Germany are ruled by dictators under a
totalitarianistic government. These dictators, Adolf Hitler and Big Brother, use many different tactics
and techniques to make sure they keep control of the citizens under their rule. The first strategy they
both implemented was propaganda. Propaganda plays a huge role in controlling the people of these
societies. Another way that these civilizations are similar is the way that they both censored, edited, or
eliminated the newspapers, books, and media to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as Big Brother and the Party in Nineteen Eighty Four the Nazis implemented organizations to
push their youth toward their ideas. Membership was voluntary at first, but the pressure to join was
intense. Young people were accused of being anti Nazi if they refused. Regular camps encouraged
obedience to the Nazi state rather than to parents. The youth were constantly pushed to invite friends,
parents, or anyone that was pro Nazi to join organizations. Girls were taught to produce children for
the master race. With the use of the media, the youth were fed a constant diet of Nazi ideology
(Hutchison). The Nazis controlled the youth of Germany with clear roles that were established for
young men and women to follow. Organizations were set up to compel children to be good Nazis.
Children were encouraged to spy on their friends, neighbours, and families. The use of propaganda by
the Nazis reinforced the ideas given to the young. This site provided me with a lot of information on

Ecotourism in the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica and Tanzania
When it comes to the topic of ecotourism, most of us will readily agree that it is a less harmful
alternative to mass tourism and that it promotes responsible and low impact travel to areas where
flora, fauna and cultural heritage are the primary drawing power. Where this agreement usually ends,
however, is on the question of what the impact of ecotourism actually is and what its long term
consequences are. Whereas some are convinced that ecotourism provides the basis for sustainable
development, particularly in places that suffer from exploitation and excessive resources usage, and
that could only improve the general conditions of the local people, others maintain that we are still far
from true ecotourism, for many are those in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Relationship Between Diabetes And Depression
Intro Throughout high school, I worked in an antenatal clinic that provided services to a number of
underprivileged women during and after their pregnancies. Many women suffered from severe
depression and often times social workers had to called to prevent the women from committing
suicide. Common among the women, who generally suffered from a wide variety of afflictions, was
diabetes. In this paper I chose to explore the relationship between diabetes and depression in pregnant
women. PPD Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mild to severe mood disorder that develops in 10 20%
of mothers in the U.S. annually, following birth of their baby. Women often experience anxiety,
hopelessness, sadness, apathy towards newborn, mood swings, and crying spells, which can last three
months to a year. These women have difficulty bonding with the baby, are withdrawn from friends and
family, are irritable and have thoughts of harming self or baby or both. If untreated PPD may persist
for many months. PPD affects the health of both mother and child, interfering with the development of
mother child relationships. Children of depressed mothers have been shown to develop significant
emotional cognitive and developmental delays. PPD is more commonly seen in teenage mothers and
mothers of lower socio economic status (Kozhimannil K.B, et al.,2009), something I can attest to from
my work in the clinic. PPD is now considered the most significant obstetrical complication and
elevated to global

The Influence of the Communist Manifesto on the...
The Communist Manifesto left a tremendous impact on a society that was rapidly becoming
industrialized, and its effects can even be seen on the dominating economic system of the twenty first
century. In the later nineteenth century, however, industrial capitalism was on the brink of ruin. On
many occasions during the past century, Marxists have thought that capitalism was down for the count
. . . Yet it has always come back with renewed strength. Industrial capitalism succeeded in the face of
communism, despite numerous economic disasters. As the capitalist economists hopefully noted at the
time, these economic earthquakes, temporary in character, soon cured themselves and left capitalism
unscathed. Karl Marx sought to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the continuation of capitalism, the middle class successfully emerged as the dominating class
in our society. As Lewis Corey states, Workers were becoming capitalists, the capitalists becoming
workers. Industrial capitalism spawned a middle class, molded the exact same way that Marx
predicted in his major work. In establishing the goals of the Communist party, Marx stated, In the
national struggles of the proletarians of the different countries, they point out and bring to the front the
common interests of entire proletariat, independently of nationality. Once again, the Communist
Manifesto espouses capitalistic ideas. By the end of the twentieth century, industrial capitalism
reached a monumental point in its history; the economic system was almost completely global.

Cold War Era Movie Assignment
Cold War Era Movie Assignment
The movie/TV clips that we watched in class were all made between the years 1954 and 1964. World
War II and The Cold War between The Soviet Union and the United States became the subject of
many TV shows and movies of the time period. The paranoia and fear of communism and nuclear war
was very real in the 1950 s/1960 s and it shaped the cultures of both the United States and the Soviet
Union.
You will be asked questions not only about the clips you will view but how they relate to World War II
and The Cold War. You must use the historical events and facts that we have covered in class in your
answers.
Guiding Question:
What do you think the attitude of Americans was towards Germans and Russians during this period of
time? How did movies and television affect their opinions?
Gojira (Godzilla) 1954 and Them! (1954)
1) What is the Japanese film Gojira trying to warn the world about? What happened in 1945 that
influenced this film?
The Japanese film Gojira was made in the early 1950 s, shortly after WW2 and the 2 atomic bombs
dropped on Japan. The nuclear bombs American forces dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki left a sore
spot in Japanese society. It reminded and allowed Japanese citizens to relive the horrible horrors that
occurred after the blast.
2) What do you think the Japanese opinion of nuclear war was in the aftermath of World War II?

Technology In Blade Runner
Technology can be broadly defined as the use of scientific knowledge for practical purposes mostly in
industry. Its application in various industries includes the information and media technology,
agriculture, education, construction and transport. Technology allows us to perform complicated tasks
in our daily lives and ensures efficiency in production. Technology has been advancing in astounding
ways in recent years especially due to progress achieved in computing and it can only grow even more
in the future. Although authors have different views on this broad topic, they are important as they
help paint a picture for society on how technology will evolve. Phillip K. Dick in his book Blade
Runner, technology is more advanced and humans have achieved abilities to create machines that
resemble men. According to (Dick, 24), Roy: Chew, if only you could see what I ve seen with your
eyes . This points us to the fact that Chew considers himself Roy s creator and that he even though he
did, he does not get to experience what Roy do. We can deduct from this quote that the author foresees
a future in which Artificial Intelligence will be highly developed and robots will be a norm and that
people will own their own robots. George Orwell gives us an insight into his view on the subject of
technology in his 1949 novel, Nineteen Eighty Four as an important tool of innovation and
development that can be manipulated to serve evil masters in facilitating a lot of evil on humanity. The

The ACF plant has experienced serious cutbacks throughout the 80s due to competitive pressure
caused primarily by the entrance of foreign competition in a market formerly dominated by US auto
manufacturers and the oil shock of the 70s. The expensive gasoline has started a trend in the auto

Note: A look at Exhibit 2 showed a fall in all overhead accounts after the outsourcing in 1989. We can
take this to mean that in reality no costs are completely avoidable or unavoidable.
To Outsource or not to Outsource
We are not in favor of outsourcing manifolds because of the following reasons: 1. The outsourcing of
Muffler/Exhaust and Oil Pans, increased the OVH rate from 434% to 577% even though the total
overhead amount fell. This new rate when applied to Manifolds made it cost inefficient despite some
remarkable improvements in its production. This was because the fixed costs associated with the
production of Muffler/Exhaust and Oil Pans were transferred to the remaining product lines. 2. It is
quite likely that if Manifolds are outsourced then the costs associated with their production will be
added on to the remaining two lines. Their cost classification will suffer and they could be next in line
for a possible outsourcing. The plant may eventually shut down and so may the company in time. 3.
Though the data is absent we feel that the allocation base should be machine hours instead of direct
labor. This base should give a more accurate picture given the extensive mechanization of the plant
and may provide some respite to the Manifolds operation in term of overhead cost allocation. 4. We
have attempted a quantitive analysis of the effect of

Capital Punishment And The Death Penalty
Capital punishment has been around for centuries taking the life of guilty convicts to bring justice to
the people. However, many people see the death penalty as a brutal action which no human should
have to face, guilty or innocent. After the death penalty travelled around the world, it became very
popular in America leading to many Supreme Court cases and protests. Endlessly, people have argued
their viewpoints about whether the death penalty is constitutional in relation to the 8th amendment
which states no cruel or unusual punishment. Politicians from every state including Harry Reid and
Nancy Pelosi, have commented their personal views on the death penalty making it a very public
dispute. Capital punishment is a very popular subject to debate over, and still a very prominent issue
America is facing today. The death penalty has been around since the 18th century BC, rumored to
start by King Hammurabi of Babylon. He once spoke the famous words, an eye for an eye , which
indicated equal punishments for equal actions. Other countries understood the wisdom and fairness of
his words and adopted the death penalty as their own. The Romans executed capital punishment in
gruesome ways such as, drowning and burning alive. After a few more centuries, Britain became very
pro death penalty giving it out to crimes such as stealing or cutting down a tree. Hanging was their
main way of execution, and over 100 crimes were eligible to receive the death penalty. However in the

Afghanistan American Culture
In this Paper my goal is to analyze the culture of Afghanistan and provide cultural awareness of the
region. But what is culture? Culture, as defined by Webster s Dictionary, is the arts and manifestations
of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively . However, is that really what defines a
culture? Or is there more depth to the matter altogether? The characteristics of culture are learned,
shared, symbols, integrated, and dynamic. Essentially, culture is learned; it is not something we are
born with. It is also shared, meaning that collectively as a society we practice social norms; which
enables us to generally predict another s behavior. Symbols have meaning and that meaning is
derivative of the culture that we are exposed to. The swastika, for instance, is an ancient symbol that is
sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism but in western culture represents Nazi Germany. Culture is
integrated, various aspects of culture are all interwoven in some way. Dynamic, culture is an ever
changing entity; through travel the media, and interaction with other nations, cultures are constantly
influencing one another.

Haemoglobin Synthesis
In order for haemoglobin to be made from the base sequence provided, protein sysnthesis needs to
occur. Consequently, two major events are involved; transcription, which makes messenger RNA
(mRNA) that holds the codons that tRNA will translate into amino acids and eventually a polypeptide;
and transcription, which makes polypetide chains that make proteins. In relation the hameglobin
structure, the DNA (base sequence provided) partially unwinds, so it can be read. RNA polymerase
enzymes attach onto the promoter reigon of the gene. The RNA polymerase assists in the
complementray base pairing of free ribonucleotides with exposed bases of the template strand of
DNA. Therefore, new hyrdogen bonds will be formed between the bases of DNA and the newly
formed RNA molecule. When the RNA polymerase reaches the terminal reigon of the gene, hydrogen
bonds break of and a newly formed mRNA strand C A U C U AA C C C C A G A G G A G is created.

With that being said, this mRNA sequence codes for six codons and six amino acids. After the creation
of mRNA, proteins need to be made in order to make hameglobin, through translation. The mRNA
strand exits the nucleus and attaches onto a ribosominal sub unit, within the cytoplasm. Every three
letters, which code for one amino acid is read, as the mRNA strand flows through the ribomsomes.
Once the mRNA is positioned properly in the ribosomal sub uint, it triggers the approach for tRNA.
Each tRNA (anti codon) brings one amino acid and complentary binds it with the mRNA codon. The
tRNA will then drop off its amio acids, which will be attached onto the growing polypeptide chain.
Once the polypeptide chain has gained all the needed amino acids for new protein, it will break of the

and create a hemoglobin protein (McKinley, O Loughlin Bidle,

Death Vs Religion

numerous ceremonies that are important to accomplish. The first topic that I found the most
stimulating and educational is how different religions handle the thought of death and if there is life
after death or remaining life is nothingness. The distress of death is one of the most common causes
and effects of anxiety and is customary even in individuals who do not experience the normal
symptoms of anxiety (Collett Lester, 1969) and the ultimate part of this is facing the indefinite

Good karma forming is when the individual implements good deeds throughout their life and negative

An Eventful Journey of Living on the Streets
Character traits shape the people we all are. For example, they help us face our fears through courage;
they show us right from wrong through responsibility; and they show us who to believe in tough
decisions through trust. Dana, the protagonist from Eric Walters Sketches, has a tough time learning
how to show her traits. However, as a child on the streets Dana fights through many tough obstacles
that enable her to become an optimistic, courageous and trusting individual.
After running away from her family Dana is very pessimistic about anything getting better, but
throughout all of her tests and trials, she becomes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
lt; My name is on the card. I m Robert Erickson. Who are you? I didn t answer. That was none of his
business (35). gt; Dana refuses to tell Robert her name because she doesn t trust him. Not telling
Robert her name takes away from her opportunity to go to Sketches and paint. Nevertheless when
Dana is talking to Nicki she learns that her sister could be in trouble and trusts Nicki to help save her
sister, lt; Dana, do you trust me? Nicki asked. I guess (217). gt; even though Dana only gives it partial
expectations. When M3
Nicki asks if Dana believes in her, it is a big step for Dana to allow Nicki, a person she met only a few
weeks earlier, to save her sister from going through the abuse she went through as a younger child.
Nicki is able to save Dana s sister and helps Dana learn to trust her mother and sister again. In
conclusion Dana becomes a trusting individual when she learns her sister is in trouble and opens up to
let Nicki help.
Courage is a quality that is learned, not a quality a person is born with. Dana is afraid of facing her
fears but after the reward she becomes courageous and faces her fears. Dana admits she is scared to a
total stranger when she is begging for money. lt; I am a little scared. I said, trying to sound convincing.
That wasn t much of an act. There had been few times since I d left home that I wasn t at least a little
scared (7). gt; Dana

Vacation On Easter Island
Conducting my research supporting a vacation on Easter Island, an atypical destination filled with
mystery and intrigue, I realized this destination is a must, not only for the adventure, but also for the
opportunity to experience a place not everyone is willing to expend the time and expense involved in
visiting, a vacation is ultimately a chance to escape the everyday drudgery and routine, all these
reasons make Easter Island the perfect, eclectic, vacation spot to enjoy a once in a lifetime
undertaking. Initial research led to the National Newspapers Core, perusing the hits: an article, The
Dream at the End of the World , by Edward Albee, (celebrated playwright) stood out. Scanning the
article, I realized he similarly regarded this undertaking, moreover: I realized his words summed up
exactly how I feel about this excursion. I have felt the need to experience cultures which grew, fell
into decadence and vanished (Albee 1). Easter Island, isolated and unknown until 1722 when it was
discovered by a Dutch explore on Easter Sunday, (origin of its name). Consequently: this isolation is
one of the drawing points for my desire to visit this paradise in the Pacific. Albee goes on to state: The
three essential assemblages of statues are Ahu Akivi to my mind the most beautiful on the island seven
giant figures staring out over the landscape with power and serenity; Ahu Tongariki, with 15 giant
figures staring toward the quarry where they were formed,

Compare And Contrast Coopers Vs Carmack
In retrospect, a number of things are clear about the case:
1. The meeting between the Coopers and Carmack was accidental and not part of the conspiracy or
plan
2. Duncan Cooper had no weapon in his hand at the time of the meeting with Carmack began
3. Carmack fired the first shots, wounding Robin Cooper
Colonel Cooper supported Taylor against Carmack in the 1906 Senate race and supported Governor
Malcolm Patterson (son of Josiah) in the Democratic Party primary for the nomination in 1908.
Carmack referred to him during the campaign as baldheaded angel, Dunc Cooper.
Patterson won the nomination as was subsequently elected to a second term, while Carmack became
editor of Luke Lea s newspaper, the Nashville Tennessean.

Sharp for murder in the first degree, alleging that the three conspired to murder Carmack.
The trial began on January 20, 1909, not quite three months after the shooting. The prosecution was
led by the flamboyant D.A. General, Jeff McCarn, who was assisted by Guston T. Fitzhugh.
The defense was led by J.M. Anderson, a former Criminal Court judge, a friend of J.C. Bradford, and
a political supporter of Carmack. Assisted by former Attorney General W.H. Washington.
In two instances, accepted jurors were removed on the charge of being habitual drunkards and
therefore friendly to the liquor interests
The Tennessean fully publicized these moves along with a story that there were rumors of the
assassination of General McCarn.
The trial was presided over by Judge William M. Hart, a genial, red nosed judge who seems to have
been fair although he allegedly took great care no to be accused of leniency towards the defendants.
Most damaging witness against the Coopers was Mrs. Eastman, who claimed that Cooper had stated to
Carmack that he had the drop on him and that the first shot had come from Cooper s

The Institution of Slave Trade Essay
The Institution of Slave Trade
The institution of slave trade and the actual experiences of slavery that occurred in the Caribbean were
to form a monumental part of that region s culture, society, and everyday interactions, both in the past
and in the present. The culture that is present today in the Caribbean is the result of many different
influences varying from those introduced by ruling colonial countries, to influences that the slaves
stressed, and even from brand new colonies being developed. The diverse and multifaceted culture
that is present today is a direct result of the institution of slavery.
The reason that forced all of these cultures to become intermixed and entangled was a result of
slavery, but more specifically a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact many historians to this day debate over the question of whether or not the plantations even
made any profit over their period of existence.
More and more pirates emerged as the demand for sugar continued to increase, and therefore more and
more slaves were also needed. After these pirates attacked slave ships en route to the Caribbean, they
would take the slaves and trade them in the Caribbean for sugar, molasses, and rum and make their
way back to Europe top begin the process all over again.
Because these pirates did not differentiate between the countries ships that they attacked (excluding
their own), they began some of the first mixing of slaves and cultures into one group. Often times they
would take the non black deckhands of the attacked ship and either make them slaves as well, or
assign them to deck duty upon their own ship. This general small scale mixing was the beginning to
what was to ensue on a much larger scale in the very near future.
Another area that began to increase the tendency for cultural and social mixing was the fact that as
more and more pirates sailed the sea, counties began to send less and less of their commissioned trade
ships. As fewer and fewer of these countries vessels made contact with their various plantation
colonies in the Caribbean, their cultural influence on them

The Importance Of The Final Solution
The Final Solution was the term used for the Nazis plan to annihilate the Jewish population during
WWII. The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state sponsored, and murder of approximately
6 million jews and 5 million others by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. The Nazi s decided that
certain people should not live and worked on killing them while they were in power from 1933 1945.
After WWII finished, the rest of the world discovered the horrors of what had been going on in
Germany and their occupied territory. The SS officers set up death camps to kill millions of jews in
Europe. The Wannsee Conference was a meeting that coordinated the implementation of the Final
Solution which planned to remove millions of European jews. From what we know of it was the start
of the Holocaust. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It took place January 20, 1942, in a suburb of Berlin (Holocaust Book PG:300). At the conference,
they established all the stages of the Final Solution . For example, they established where, when, and
how they were going to kill the jews. The conference paved the way for the Holocaust. Lot s of
important Nazi officials attended (www.Britannica.com). Reinhard Heydrich who was the head of the
Reich Security Main Office called for the gathering (Holocaust Book PG:301). Other officials such as
Hermann Goring and Adolf Eichmann and 11 more men were there. These men were all in charge of
the mass murder. The time of the Wannsee Conference Anti Semitism was dominating German
territories (www.ushmm.org). People thought jews were different than everyone else. Even though
many people thought they were different jews were the same as any other person living in Europe. The
Wannsee Conference was a big contribution in setting up the extermination of jews. One major topic
of the meeting was to find a way how to segregate jews from the rest of the

  • 2. The Imf And The Crisis The IMF and the Crisis in Greece The IMF is one of a number of international organizations whose work is aimed at preventing economic crisis and rebuilding economies. According to the Levin Institute, both the IMF and the World Bank were started after WW2 in response to concerns about the stability of economic markets around the world. While the World Bank now has a focus projects and sustainable development, the IMF is primarily focused on fiscal policy with lending practices that are focused on crisis management. Loans that come with significant conditions attached, including significant changes to fiscal and monetary policy in the borrowing nation (Levin, n.d). There are many examples of IMF projects that garnered heavy criticism in recent years. Brazil, Argentina, Turkey, Korea, and Indonesia are a few examples, and now we can add Greece to the list. The IMF invested in Greece in 2010 and in 2013, and have openly recognized that they misjudged the effect austerity would have on the Greek economy (Elliot, L., Inman, P., Smith, H., 2013). They issued a report that identified Notable failures , including failure in restoring market confidence, the banks 30 percent loss in deposits, high unemployment, waiting too long to restructure the nation s debt, and a deepening of the recession (IMF recognizes notable failures in Greek bailout, 2013). English is quickly filling that niche, and instruction in English as a second language is expanding worldwide to places such as Nepal. Although there have been some educational policies passed to enforce the study of English, the establishment of English as a second language in Nepal has been limited due to resource shortages, poor training of teachers, and the prevalence of varying local mother languages, which makes instruction in English difficult. Additionally, English has created a rift between the social classes as good English language education is usually only available to those students who come from an influential family. For these reasons, as opposed to being treated as a second language, English is still treated as foreign language in Nepal. The country of Nepal is home to approximately twenty seven million people, with ninety two different identified languages spread across the numerous ethnic groups. About eighty seven percent of the country s population speak one of the five major languages: Nepali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tharu, and Tamang (Weinberg, 62). However, Nepali is spoken as a primary language by about half of the total population. Out of the ninety two identified languages, fifty nine each have less than ten thousand speakers (Bista, 2). The total population speaking these fifty nine languages is about point five percent, with the majority of these non dominant languages in danger of becoming extinct because of the declining population of speakers (Ghimire, 1). • 10. King Stephen King Reflection The video Stephen King on Childhood changed the way I look at things. He claims, the things that really scare us are the things that are going on just outside the spotlight that you can t quite see ( Stephen King on Childhood ). The video starts off with Stephen King talking about a day he was walking and came across a little girl on the side of the street drawing in the dirt talking to herself or an imaginary person. Then, he thought to himself, If I did that, somebody would come along and say there s a grown man sitting in the dirt, talking to himself to people who aren t there and drawing with a stick ( Stephen King on Childhood ). If I saw a grown man doing that, I would be a little creeped out. If a little kid was doing it, I would think that was a normal thing for kids to do. He is talking about how when we are kids, we can think, imagine, and dream about whatever we want because there are no limits. When we start growing up, we realize what reality is. We snap into this new mode and change the way we think, imagine, and dream. When I was a kid, I would think the most bizarre things, like when I would connect anything to a face, like cars, buildings, clouds, houses, etc. I would try to explain it to my parents they would think I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about. Next, the interviewer, Thomas Smith, asks Stephen, Did you have a highly developed sense of evil yourself as a child or were you obsessed by the nature of evil? (Stephen King on Childhood). King then goes on to ask why people ask about his childhood. He does not remember having an unusual childhood. Then, because of him not remembering, something bad must have happened when he was a kid. King then goes on to talk about, I think a lot of people make the assumption that we block memories that are terrible. When I think what really happens is this: that we think in a different way as children. we tend to think around corners instead of in straight lines. sometimes for a kid, the shortest distance between two points is not a straight line and that s the way that we think and dream (Stephen King on Childhood). • 12. The Possibly Detrimental Effects of Cardiac Arrhythmia Cardiac arrhythmia is defined as, a condition in which the heart s normal rhythm is disrupted (Scholarpedia). A heart usually beats anywhere from 60 to 100 times a minute. If there is a palpation or a fluttering rarely, the person should usually be fine. If these occur more often or on a frequent manner, this cardiac arrhythmia could be very severe (Hopkinsmedicine). The hearts electrical system is what controls the speed and pace of the heartbeat (NHLBI,NIH). Sinoatrial node or SA node is located in the right atrium and controls the rhythm of the heart. The SA node is cardiac muscle cells, and it acts as a pacemaker. Sinus rhythm is the regular heart rhythm (Scholarpedia). Atrial tachycardia is when the heart beats too fast. On the other hand, bradycardia is when the heart beats too slowly. The heart can also beat irregularly (Hopkinsmedicine). The electrical signal goes from the SA node to the left and right atria. This allows the atria to pump and contract blood to the ventricles. Then, the signal goes to the atrioventricular or AV node. The electrical signal slows down here, so the ventricles have time to fill themselves with blood. After the AV node, the electrical signal goes to the bundle of His, where the signal is eventually transported to the ventricles. In this phase, the signal causes the ventricles to contract and pump blood to the lungs and the other parts of the body (NHLBI, NIH). According to the NASW Code of Ethics (2008), Social workers behave in a trustworthy manner. The societal value that falls under this principle is integrity. I feel like this societal value is the same as the ethical principles and values. Social workers act honestly and responsibly and promote ethical practices (NASW, 2008). Relationship Between The Child And The Parent Literature Review McDonald, Bowker, Rubin, Laursen, and Duchene (2010) stated that according to attachment theory (Bowlby, 1969), the relationship between the child and the parent originates from a behavioral system that is noticeable by the infant s need for safety, security, and support from their caregiver. Parents function as both a secure place for their child to discover their surrounding world and safe place in which they can return to the comfort and safety when they experience fear or discomfort (Ainsworth et al., 1978). If parents are thoughtful and respond to their child s needs, the child is more prone to develop feelings of security, social ability to explore their environment, need and want love and support, and develop social relationships that are positive (McDonald et al., 2010). Many researchers have learned that positive, warm, and supportive parental relationships develop positive, healthy, social and emotional growth for their children during childhood and adolescence (McDonald et al., 2010). More importantly, anxiety and depression during childhood and adolescence is correlated with the view that the relationship with parents has not been supportive and thoughtful (Nolan et al., 2003). Third Grade Classrooms and Foldables Introduction Good educators, especially in the lower levels of education, are always looking for effective ways to improve students learning and interest in subjects that may not be as appealing. Any activity that promotes reading and encourages critical thinking is especially valued by teachers (Angus, 1993). One of the key developments promoted by Zike is the use of Foldables in the classroom (2007). These are three dimensional hands on manipulative/graphic organizers. Foldables can quickly organize, display and arrange data making it easier for students to grasp concepts, theories, processes, facts, and ideas, or to sequence events as outlined in the content standards. Results and Conclusions Initially the pretest scores of the two groups were compared to ensure that they had equivalent attitudes toward social studies, which they were. The changes in scores from pretest to posttest for each group (Lecture/Worksheet and Foldables) were then compared using a paired samples t test. Casteel researched that the Lecture/Worksheet group had a .69 point mean gain from pretest to posttest, which was not statistically significant, while the Foldables group had a 2.67 point mean gain from pretest to posttest, which was statistically significant (2006). This study was designed to compare the effectiveness of two teaching methods (Lecture/Worksheet and Foldables). The Lecture/Worksheet and Foldables groups had equivalent pretest scores, meaning they were equivalent in attitudes toward social studies at the beginning of the units. Only those taught with Foldables had a significant increase from pretest to posttest on affective scores (Casteel, 2006). The experimental data indicated that Foldables are a promising alternative to the traditional method of Lecture/Worksheet. Using Foldables significantly improved students attitudes toward the material (Zike, 2007). Additionally, teachers who participated in the study commented about the improvement in attitudes when using the Foldables. Furthermore, several teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His narrative was originally published in 1789 and went through a series of revisions throughout his lifetime, finally becoming a bestseller. Equiano s treasured writings, depicts his personal accounts from childhood, holding the status of an African aristocrat in Benin West Africa, to being kidnapped and forced into slavery in the infamous Middle Passage slave trade. While slavery attempts to divest Equiano of his hope for freedom, his narrative asserts that spirituality and literary works produce its own liberty and identity in the world. From the inception of this narrative, the reader learns quickly how Equiano plans to escape the bondage of slavery. Part of the dehumanizing nature of slavery is to strip the slaves of their natural identity and substitute it with a falsehood that can be controlled and render them powerless. His autobiography shows us a slave who discovers how to obtain his freedom through his own spiritual empowerment. Essay On George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four George Orwell s, Nineteen Eighty Four describes the dystopian society of Oceania which resembles several aspects of Nazi Germany when under the reign of Adolf Hitler. The novel and Nazi Germany have several similar characteristics. Both Oceania and Nazi Germany are ruled by dictators under a totalitarianistic government. These dictators, Adolf Hitler and Big Brother, use many different tactics and techniques to make sure they keep control of the citizens under their rule. The first strategy they both implemented was propaganda. Propaganda plays a huge role in controlling the people of these societies. Ecotourism in the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica and Tanzania When it comes to the topic of ecotourism, most of us will readily agree that it is a less harmful alternative to mass tourism and that it promotes responsible and low impact travel to areas where flora, fauna and cultural heritage are the primary drawing power. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of what the impact of ecotourism actually is and what its long term consequences are. Whereas some are convinced that ecotourism provides the basis for sustainable development, particularly in places that suffer from exploitation and excessive resources usage, and that could only improve the general conditions of the local people, others maintain that we are still far from true ecotourism, for many are those in the ... Many women suffered from severe depression and often times social workers had to called to prevent the women from committing suicide. Common among the women, who generally suffered from a wide variety of afflictions, was diabetes. In this paper I chose to explore the relationship between diabetes and depression in pregnant women. PPD Postpartum depression (PPD) is a mild to severe mood disorder that develops in 10 20% of mothers in the U.S. annually, following birth of their baby. Women often experience anxiety, hopelessness, sadness, apathy towards newborn, mood swings, and crying spells, which can last three months to a year. These women have difficulty bonding with the baby, are withdrawn from friends and family, are irritable and have thoughts of harming self or baby or both. If untreated PPD may persist for many months. PPD affects the health of both mother and child, interfering with the development of mother child relationships. Children of depressed mothers have been shown to develop significant emotional cognitive and developmental delays. PPD is more commonly seen in teenage mothers and mothers of lower socio economic status (Kozhimannil K.B, et al.,2009), something I can attest to from my work in the clinic. PPD is now considered the most significant obstetrical complication and elevated to global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Technology has been advancing in astounding ways in recent years especially due to progress achieved in computing and it can only grow even more in the future. Although authors have different views on this broad topic, they are important as they help paint a picture for society on how technology will evolve. Phillip K. We can take this to mean that in reality no costs are completely avoidable or unavoidable. To Outsource or not to Outsource We are not in favor of outsourcing manifolds because of the following reasons: 1. The outsourcing of Muffler/Exhaust and Oil Pans, increased the OVH rate from 434% to 577% even though the total overhead amount fell. This new rate when applied to Manifolds made it cost inefficient despite some remarkable improvements in its production. This was because the fixed costs associated with the production of Muffler/Exhaust and Oil Pans were transferred to the remaining product lines. 2. It is quite likely that if Manifolds are outsourced then the costs associated with their production will be added on to the remaining two lines. Their cost classification will suffer and they could be next in line for a possible outsourcing. The plant may eventually shut down and so may the company in time. 3. Though the data is absent we feel that the allocation base should be machine hours instead of direct labor. This base should give a more accurate picture given the extensive mechanization of the plant and may provide some respite to the Manifolds operation in term of overhead cost allocation. 4. Culture, as defined by Webster s Dictionary, is the arts and manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively . However, is that really what defines a culture? Or is there more depth to the matter altogether? The characteristics of culture are learned, shared, symbols, integrated, and dynamic. Essentially, culture is learned; it is not something we are born with. It is also shared, meaning that collectively as a society we practice social norms; which enables us to generally predict another s behavior. Symbols have meaning and that meaning is derivative of the culture that we are exposed to. The swastika, for instance, is an ancient symbol that is sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism but in western culture represents Nazi Germany. In relation the hameglobin structure, the DNA (base sequence provided) partially unwinds, so it can be read. RNA polymerase enzymes attach onto the promoter reigon of the gene. The RNA polymerase assists in the complementray base pairing of free ribonucleotides with exposed bases of the template strand of DNA.
