The Legacy Of Nero Claudius Caesar
One of the most infamous emperor during the Roman Empire was named Nero Claudius Caesar (37
68 A.D). He was hedonistic, cruel and violent with people. Nero would always have lavish parties had
no sympathy for people. As an always wanted to raise to the top even if he had to murder his own
family. Since he mostly grew up with his mother Agrippina the Younger, he had a high chance to
become ruler of
In 54 A.D. Nero became emperor of Rome after the death of Claudius, who was thought to have been
poisoned by his wife Agrippina, who also happened to be Nero s mother. Nero s real name was
Lucius, but his mother decided that Nero Claudius Caesar was more suitable so she got him to change
it. Agrippina was always plotting in the background. As a wife of a former emperor and mother to the
current one, she saw herself as a new version of Livia.
Nero was only a teenager when he came to power, just seventeen years old. Having been under the
influence of his mother all his life, he now saw an opportunity to do what he wanted instead. Within
the first year of his reign he had made it obvious to her that she was not going to be sharing his power.
When an Armenian ambassador visited Rome, Nero did not let Agrippina sit next to him to receive the
guest.
During the following months, mother and son quarelled openly about his affair with an ex slave girl
called Acte. He was already married to Octavia, daulghter of Claudius. Agrippina did not approve of
this liaison and at this point started to get closer with Britannicus, Claudius s son with the unfortunate
Messalina. When Nero saw this he realised this could be a threat to his reign, so he had Britannicus
poisoned and forced Agrippina to move out of the palace, took her bodyguard away and slapped a
lawsuit on her.
Despite her distance from Court, Agrippina did not stop trying to interfere with things. Being the
daughter of Germanicus was a big deal and this ensured she was not ignored.
When Nero started an affair with Poppaea Sabina, trouble really started. Poppaea was an upper class
woman who could marry Nero if he divorced Octavia. She realised that as long as Agrippina was
alive, there was no way she could get Nero to marry her. At this time, it is also rumoured that

Really Good At Heart Quotes
In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart. This is a quote that finished
the play of Anne Frank. I believe that Anne Frank had a good heart despite people s decisions because
of what she stated in not only this quote but also throughout the play. This quote reveals that Anne
Frank was a gentle person and thought that people should be forgiven for their actions. During this
time in history many bad things were going on. Not only was it countries fighting against and with
each other, but it was also the Holocaust. Even though these people who were participating were doing
bad things, they could still be good at heart. Anne Frank tells us her opinion of thinking that by saying

Originally, Anne had shared her room with her sister, Margot. Anne had the room to herself in the

He had the room in the mornings, and Anne had it in the afternoon. Even though they had made this

got really worked up and angry a lot but, Anne stayed hopeful that he would change his ways and he
ended up being in better spirits. Her mother Edith and she, did not have the best relationship. They
both would yell at each other, but sometimes they would get into very rough arguments. In the end

Essay On Purchasing Parity Power
The purpose of this paper is to examine the key term of purchasing parity power (PPP). This key term
is used for several global business processes and decision making from the strategic to the operational
level of management. The current research is mathematically based with regard to the validity of the
variables used to calculate PPP and provides examples of ways to restructure the variables for certain
business processes. Ultimately, it is a term and algorithm in which global business leaders should be
well versed to conduct cross border project management and develop effective strategic business
decisions.

In other words, the exchange rate is the equalizing factor that maintains product costs relatively
consistent across countries.
While there are myriad of PPP calculations, there are two general approaches, absolute and relative
(Hyrina Serletis, 2010). The absolute calculation relies on the nominal exchange rate and the relative
accounts for fluctuations like inflation (2010). In fact, the variables of the calculation create the
controversy, in that, scholars agree that there are additional non constant variables to consider and
many different perspectives to view the variables. Nevertheless, despite the controversy regarding how
PPP is calculated, it is used for analyzing and reporting on costs across countries by the International
Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and
by global business leaders to make decisions (Investopedia, 2016).
Major Article Summary In the article by Langston (2016), a positive view of using the standard PPP
calculation was presented as applied it to international project cost benchmarking. His research goal
was to prove that the PPP calculation, and one in particular, enables the highest level of accuracy for
cost benchmarking for international businesses (Langston, 2016). He did this because current
benchmarking calculations use exchange rates to first get monetary units to U.S. dollar (USD), instead
of using PPP, which is a more comprehensive picture of location

Chlamydia Research Paper
Chlamydia is caused by bacteria, which means the disease can often be treated with antibiotics.
Azithromycin is an antibiotic usually prescribed in a single dose, while doxycycline must be taken
twice per day for about one week. There are also other antibiotics your doctor may prescribe to you.
No matter which antibiotic you are prescribed, you will need to follow the dosage instructions
cautiously to make sure the infection clears up completely. This usually takes two weeks at most,
during which time you will need to refrain from sexual contact. One of the most effective ways of
avoiding Chlamydia is by limiting the amount of sexual partners you have. The more people you have
sexual intercourse with, the greater your chances of being exposed

Determining Who Should Receive An Organ Transplant Can
Determining who should receive an organ transplant can be a tricky and difficult task. According to
the UNOS, the company that maintains the organ transplant list, there are various factors that are
under consideration when an organ is available. Things like blood type, tissue type, medical urgency,
and proximity to the donor are all taken into consideration; factors like age, income, or racial/ethnic
background are not even taken into consideration. Furthermore, the transplant list is more like a pool
than a list. So, if one patient hits more criteria than another patient, then he or she will receive the
organ, regardless of their status ( The Gift of a Lifetime ). While this system may seem slow or
flawed, it allows patients the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

norm of need in our definition of distributive justice, we will be stuck at an impasse. Because both
Patients A and B are both in dire straits, we can say that they both a have strong claim to the scarce
good in question. However, if we consider including the distributive norm of equity in the definition
of distributive justice, this problem can be remedied. The norm is equity is as follows: a person s
claim to a scarce good should be dependent on how much of a role he or she plays in the outcome
(Anderson). In other words, this would mean that those who work harder deserve a larger share of
outcome than those who do not put in as much effort. In the case of organ transplants, we can apply
this norm as the following: a patient s claim to an organ is dependent on how little of a role they play
in their need for a transplant. This essentially means that those who play a less active role in harm
caused to their organs have a better claim than those who are actively damaging their organs. Now,
applying this norm to our definition of distributive justice, we will be able to determine that Patient A
is more deserving of the limb transplant

organized. They tend to be very stable people that remain loyal, dependable, and active. They enjoy
creating things around the house, volunteering in the community, as well as watching and playing

with others. Although I do like my occasional me time, I prefer to be spending time with friends and
family. Another reason I feel I am an extravert is because I am usually confident in myself and the
things I do. Having said that, being extraverted really helps with my athletic side and involvement in
the community. Being on a team that you want to work well together requires each individual to get

The Nature And Activity Of God
Question 1: What did I learn about the nature and activity of God? I see God working through the
history of mankind and God working throughout the history of Israel as well. I believe one can see
that God is at work in the church as well. He is working to fulfill God s plans that has been in place
before the foundation of the world. God s plan as the Apostle Paul says is to redeem his people in
Ephesians 1:6 7. The Apostle Paul said, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed
us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses,
according to the riches of his grace, (Ephesians 1:6‭‬
7 ESV). It is Genesis chapter 3 that we see the
broken state of mankind, but God offers grace to mankind when He tells Eve her child (Jesus) would
crush the serpent (Satan).‬It is through the OT text that we see the interaction with God. Von Rad
believed that through this retailing and applications of the OT stories we see God himself revealed to
Israel through the words and the Deeds of the texts which, swears to what God has said and done
(Routledge p. 59). We can look back at history and see God s action and see a great future that lies
ahead for His children. It is through the stories of the OT that we see what God has done and is
continually doing today. We often lose sight of the importance of what God has done and is doing in
us. We focus too much in our own circumstance. The DTIB states that our view of history is

will be beneficial to improving your oral communication?
Response: Some observations that I made during the second half of my co op terms were the non

me more opportunities to practice speaking in front of other individuals. In addition, in SPCOM111
we had to do an individual presentation on a topic of our choice. This was a memorable experience
because it forced me to get out of my comfort zone and to present in front of 30 students, what I
learned from this experience was to be confident in myself and that it will show in my oral

Manufacturing Consent
Manufacturing Consent Questions Avery Reyner September 30, 2012
Manufacturing Consent is a technique of control. Noam Chomsky was first introduced to this concept
from an author named Walter Lippmann who wrote about Manufacturer of Consent. Chomsky
augmented his concept to Manufacturing Concept and the philosophy has become so popular it later
became a documentary film produced by two Canadians. Noam Chomsky has been called arguably the
greatest intellectual alive (Fox, 1998) by the New York Times as he not only is a very outspoken
professor, he is also an American linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, logician, historian, political
critic and activist. The information in this essay was obtained from his video called: ... Show more

The second group is the other 80% of the population. They don t think or pay attention as astutely as
do the first 20% and their opinions and thoughts can be somewhat manipulated. According to
Chomsky, their main function is to follow orders. The consent of the people is the consent, or opinions
being manufactured by the government, and the political system. Their intentions are to manufacture
the consent of the people and make sure that their choices and attitudes are altered in such a way that
they will always do what is in the government s best interest, which often is the same interest of
corporate companies in America. This is what Chomsky meant by propaganda.
The methodology Chomsky s used in studying Manufacture of Consent is called the Propaganda
Model and it is an institutional analysis of the major media. The major media he studied consisted of
The New York Times, The Washington Post and major television channels. Chomsky evaluated them
because he believes that by selection of topics, by distribution of concerns, by emphasis and framing
of issues, by filtering of information, by bounding of debate within certain limits, they determine, they
select, they shape, they control, they restrict in order to serve the interests of dominant, elite groups in
the society. (Chomsky, 1992) He also believes that by analysing the institutions it is very obvious they
have a goal to make money and the way to make money with a newspaper is to sell

Emperors Club And The Emperor s Club
The man s character is his fate that was Mr. Hundert said played by Kevin Kline in Emperor s Club.
The Emperor s Club is a heart touching story. It tells the story of a teacher who teach in a boy s school
for elite and changed the result of an academic competition. He allows the student to get away with
cheating and he kept it until the end of the story. The film presents him as a great educator. The chief
curiosity of the film is how it seems to present one view of a teacher, but cannot prevent itself from
revealing another.
The film will not be naturally interpreted in this way, and will be hailed in the latest of a series of
sentimental portraits of great teacher, which include The prime of Miss Jean Brodie and Mr. Holland s

situations of The Emperors s Club. The movie is too organize or methodical, but it doesn t avoid the

Yahoo announced in 2013 that it would no longer offer the option for employees to work remotely.
Although technology has evolved and created the ability to work remotely, productivity can diminish
if management is not in place to accommodate and support the endeavor. If implemented properly,
companies can benefit from employees working remotely by realizing cost savings of office space and
utilities, employee retention and broadening their candidate pool. However, working remotely will fail
due to management oversite, not hiring the right people, and a lack of communication and

On the Bloomberg BNA website (bna.com), Genevieve Douglas wrote about remote opportunities

Lewis said that employers should use a remote work option when the available talent in a commutable

allowed to work remotely include those who have jobs where the nature of the work can be performed
without face to face interaction with co workers or clients. Employees would also have to demonstrate
that they are capable of working remotely in terms of being mature and independent and having a

The Berlin Wall Of World War II
The Berlin Wall symbolized many things for different people. For the Germans it served as their
punishment from World War II, this punishment divided up their country and separated many people
from their families who might have lived in different parts of Germany. Everyday things that were
accessible to them like going to the grocery store or visiting family members were now made harder
since in order to cross to the other side of the wall people would have to go through security checks.
The Wall also represented death because if someone were to try to escape to the other side of the wall
they would be shot dead. To other countries the Berlin Wall represented communism as well as

During the Cold War people had been living in fear thinking that one day their country might be
bombed with a nuclear weapon. With the détente the nuclear anxieties were eased a bit. In 1972 a
discussion known as Strategic Arms Limitation Talks or SALT was held. United States President
Richard Nixon and Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev agreed to freeze a number of strategic ballistic
missile launches as well as reduce spending on nuclear weapons. The two countries also agreed to
limit their number of nuclear weapons. A second Strategic Arms Limitation Talk was held in 1979 this
time between United States President Jimmy Carter and Leonid Brezhnev. This time more controls
were put in place on strategic nuclear weapons and new missile programs were banned, however this
deal was not ratified by the U.S congress. The reason why this treaty was never ratified was because
President Carter was angry that the USSR had decided to invade Afghanistan. This goes to show that
there was a period of relaxation between the United States and the USSR; however tensions did start
to rise again when Afghanistan was invaded. The election of Mikhail Gorbachev as president of the
USSR is another example of thawing out of the Cold War. Gorbachev was regarded as a young and
reformist leader. In 1988 Gorbachev ordered that troops should with drawl from Afghanistan. Tony

American Slavery 1619 1877 Book Report History 1050 6/18/2013 Introduction American Slavery,
1619 1877 by Peter Kolchin gives an overview of the practice of slavery in America between 1619
and 1877. From the origins of slavery in the colonial period to the road to its abolition, the book
explores the characteristics of slave culture as well as the racial mind sets and development of the old
South s social structures. This paper is divided in two sections. The first section observes the author s
vivid presentation of the slave master psyche and relationship from the 17th to 19th century America.
The second section examines the author s choice of method in narration how, apart from quoting

Kolchin narrates tales of hardship and provides a condemning opinion of slavery. At the same time,
however, he focuses on the facts of daily living of slaves in America. Furthermore, Kolchin delves
deeply into the oddly fascinating dynamics of the slave master relationship, which allows incidents
such as a master whipping his slave for working sluggishly and then the evening of the same day,
gathering all of the slaves for a bible reading session. A person who provides basic needs for others
but forces them to provide him free labor in return is evaluated repeatedly in the book with interesting
outcomes. However, the author likewise presents a slave owner who had minimal impact on slaves
lives outside of the workday, one who allowed the slaves to have social and religious celebrations of
their own choosing, and viewed the slaves as not just property, but humans. The irony of this is that
slave owners saw no wrong in what they were doing, regardless of how they treated their respective
slaves. Slavery, as an institution, was from the perspective of the slave owners, justified. Kolchin
describes that, in response, slaves were overtly resistive to their predicament at times, while others
provided less obvious resistance in the form of slow work, feigning illness, and even sabotage. In
addition, Kolchin gives the readers the catalysts for the events in the history of slavery. Economic,

Resource Based Sources of Competitive Advantage
| Critically discuss the importance of resource based sources of competitive advantage in one of the
industries studied on this module. You should discuss a range of companies. Competitive advantage is
when a firm sustains profits that exceed the average for its industry. The goal of much of business
strategy is to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Porter identified two basic types of
competitive advantage; cost and differentiation. These two advantages are known as positional
advantages as they describe the firm s position in the industry as a leader in either cost or
differentiation. However, in this assignment I will discuss and analyse the importance of the resource
based view, (which is also known as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This core competence is of vital importance as the inability to innovate in today s ever changing
environment may lead to entropy and ultimately cessation of trade. Being truly competitive. It is
crucial that a resource ultimately delivers a true competitive advantage. This core competence
highlights the fact that it is not enough for an organisation just to realise the resource as being a
strength, but that it must also be able to prove that it is of both better quality and at a lower cost than
the competition. This in basic terms means that it is not good enough for instance to produce a low
cost, high quality product, but that it must have not only lower costs than the competitors, it must also
produce items of a higher quality or standard that that of its competitors. An example of this is to
consider that if Rolls Royce s Far East division does not produce higher quality at a lower cost than
both General Electric and Pratt amp; Whitney, it could not gain competitive advantage as this core
competence would not be relevant in this situation. Substitutability. A resource is more likely to be
able to gain competitive advantage if it cannot be substituted. Although the resource based view is in
opposition to Porter s views on strategy, his five forces model identified the threat of substitutes as an
environmental force that can influence an organisation in gaining

The U.S. Constitution was created to establish America s national government and fundamental laws
in order to guarantee the citizen s rights. It was signed on September 17, 1787 at the Constitutional
Convention held in Philadelphia. Before the Constitution was written, the Articles of Confederation is
what America was governed by. Under the Articles of Confederation, the nation was weak and the
states were run like they were independent countries. At the Philadelphia Convention, delegates
formulated a plan to have a stronger government by having three branches and a system of checks and

This simply means that he believes that the constitution should be interpreted literally. Throughout the
course of this paper, I will explain the similarities and the differences that are presented with each of
these different views and what my opinions of these views are at the end. Stephen Breyer s viewpoint
is strictly democratic. Literalism has a tendency to undermine the Constitution s efforts to create a
framework for democratic government (510) is a quote that explains Breyer s view very well. Breyer
looks at the constitutional purposes and consequences saying that they need to first look at what the
original law was intended to do and prevent. On the other side of that, they also want to look at the
punishments that went along with each policy. Breyer argues that any question you have about the
original text can be answered by looking at what the original law was intended for. He said this, A
focus on purpose seeks to promote active liberty by insisting on interpretations, statutory as well as
constitutional, that are consistent with the people s will (514). If you are going to resolve the problems
that arise in a governmental setting, you must have a better grasp on democratic objective. You need to
understand original democracy and why the laws were put in place, in order to understand the textual
meeting of the original constitution. He believes that the original text is not enough to go off of if you

Hip Hop Culture And Culture
How the Hip Hop Culture Separates But Comes Together The Hip Hop culture itself varies with
individualism and collectivism, along with the power distance experienced with artists collectively
starting joint ventures together as well as having polychronic opportunities but having the same
monochronic idea, which is make money. This cultural began collectively on empowerment. Artists in
this culture use their platform to promote their individuality whether it is good positive rap or gangsta
rap . The Hip Hop Culture comes together collectively in the advancement of wealth and
empowerment but separates through artist s identity of individuality.
Cultural Identities/ Organizing Public and Private Environment
The Hip Hop Culture is collectively huge. However, if you break it down to subgenre culture it
changes drastically. The Hip Hop Culture once started as an expressions of one s life in poverty, the
hood, or the ghetto. When this culture began it became a movement, a more positive one before
gangsta rap hit the scene. East Coast rappers such as Mos Def, A Tribe Call Quest, Goodie Map,
OutKast, and a few others talked about: growing up; not having enough money for rent or grocery;
paying child support; or just trying to making in life itself. Music at that time, many could and can
relate to. While you had Public Enemy promoting self awareness, and taking political stance on world
issues, the gangsta rap , incorporated into the cultural environment, it makes the culture

Comparing Poems The Bloody Sire And Into Battle
The poems The bloody Sire by Robinson Jeffers and Into Battle by Julian Grenfell both deal with the
concepts of war and violence. Both poems use nature as a literary device to help tell the story. In Into
Battle Grenfell uses owls that tell the narrator be swift and keen as they / as keen of ear, as swift of
sight (25 26). A blackbird also tells him if this be the last song you shall sing, / sing well, for you may
not sing another (28 29). This is foreshadowing as well as personification as the animals are warning
him that he may die by giving him advice, such as the owls, or by telling him to sing for the last time
as the blackbird did because it is his last night alive. It is also personification because birds cannot talk
to humans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Violence ends Into Battle by the person either dying or by living. This can be seen when Grenfell
wrote he is dead who will not fight , meaning if you do not fight hard during the battle you will be
killed and the violence has ended for you (7). Grenfell also put when fighting shall be done, / great
rest, and fulness after dearth showing that if you live through the battle and it is over you can live the
rest of your life (13 14). In The Bloody Sire there is always violence. Jeffers writes It is not bad. Let
them play. / Let the guns bark and the bombing plane / speak his prodigious blasphemies (1 3). In the
world of this poem playing is equal with guns and bombing planes and that violence should be
encouraged at a young age because that is what rules the world. Jeffers also writes Stark violence is

Chlorine Is The Single Largest Contributor For Safe...
INTRODUCTION
Chlorine is the single largest contributor to safe drinking water, in the history of public health. In 1902
the first chlorine disinfection system was installed in Belgium. By the 1920 s nearly the whole world
started using the process. Due to this disinfection process many disease causing microorganisms were
abolished. According to Life Magazine (1997)
The filtration of drinking water plus the use of chlorine is probably the most significant public health
advancement of the millennium
As consumers have started to have greater knowledge, they want to know what they re drinking and
how this will affect them in short term and long term. The main concern related to chlorination is the
by products produced. The by products are said to be cancer causing.
CHEMICAL BACKGROUND
Chlorination is used in most Australian capital cities and small water supplies as it is inexpensive, easy
to use and protects water within the pipe system. Treating drinking water involves two processes; the
physical removal and the chemical disinfection. The traditional seven step water processes used
around the globe is Coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, fluoridation and
the storage distribution. (Refer to figure 1)
The main focus for this report is the disinfection section. During the disinfection process different
chlorine products are added to the filtered water to remove harmful microorganisms. When the
disinfectant is added free

Essay On Operation Barbarossa
One of the classic what ifs of the World War II is what if the German invasion of the Soviet Union in
June 1941, known as Operation Barbarossa , would have been a success? Hitler being very optimistic
though he could and all he had to do was to kick in the door down and the whole rotten structure of
Stalin s regime would come falling down on him and his regime. Although Operation Barbarossa was
considered a complete failure, in many respects the operation was a complete success. The Germans
had the upper hand took the Soviets by surprise. The Wehrmacht or the German Army was able to

They were uncertain whether to attack to assault Stalingrad, Moscow or Ukraine. Each had its own
particular key significance but since of the sheer size of Russia, it was an awful thought to assault
every city at once, yet that is exactly what they did. This separation of troops had the German lines
two far spread out and the Russian Red Army was able to smash through the German lines and
surrounded the city of Stalingrad. This left the once compelling German sixth army was caught inside
the city. It was simply an issue of time before the noose would begin to tighten around the worn down
and tired Germans. Besides; the Russian winter was something the Germans were not arranged for.
Most of the Wehrmacht soldiers were wearing garments made for medium climate weather, which was
nothing during this unusually cold winter. A lot of their number succumbed to the cold. At the point
when the winter finished, things improved, the defrost that originated from the softening snow
muddied almost every street making it amazingly troublesome for Nazi tanks, trucks and even men to

Queen Cleopatra never had any intention of ruling with her brother and husband Ptolemy XIII. After a
hard few years for the government in Egypt they finally recovered and Cleopatra s face started
appearing alone on coins, this action broke tradition and this was the beginning of her downfall. She
started to cause trouble and she eventually had to flee after trying to start an uprising only out of spite.
She was exiled. And although for most rulers that is the end, this was not the case for Cleopatra.
Everything seemed to fall into place after her brother angered Caesar after he ordered the death of
Pompey, a powerful Roman. Cleopatra used this feud between her brother and Caesar to manipulate
Caesar into helping her to regain her throne. The main goal was to have an heir to the throne and soon
enough Cleopatra yet again got her way. He son, like mentioned before, became co ruler after the
death of her second brother in 46 B.C. In her adult life Cleopatra would have met few people she
considered her equal. To the Romans she was a stubborn, supreme exception to every rule. She
remains largely incomparable: She had plenty of predecessors, few successors. With her, the age of
empresses essentially came to an end. In two thousand years only one or two other women could be
said to have wielded unrestricted authority over so vast a realm. Cleopatra remains nearly alone at the
all male table, in possession of a hand both flush and flawed. She got a very good deal right, and one

How Did Mark Morris Influence The World Of Dance
Dance is an ever evolving form of art; in much the same way that one can categorize and differentiate
between eras and styles of architecture one can also do so with dance. These eras at times have sharp
delineations separating them from their antecedents, other times the distinction is far more subtle.
Traditional forms of dance were challenged by choreographers attempting to expand the breadth and
increase the depth of performance; preeminent among such visionaries was Seattle born dancer and
choreographer Mark Morris. Mark Morris began as one of the millions of hopeful individuals
attempting to simply make a career in dance; he not only succeeded but managed to have a lasting

He is seen today as one of the most enduring forces in modern dance choreography, having pioneered

The narrative power of sound in Pan s labyrinth
The film that I have chosen as a case study for my final paper is: Pan s labyrinth (2006) by director
Guillermo del Toro, and it is a case of real fantastic cinema. Here I present my essay entitled The
narrative power of sound in Pan s labyrinth of Guillermo Del Toro . It will analyze the sound design ,
the identification of its elements, the ways in which they are presented and their interrelations, to
understand and explain how these elements work together in conjunction with the visual image, to
support the narration of the story. Consequently, this research seeks to answer the question: How does
the sound in the film Pans Labyrinth relates to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is within this framework that I consider important to study the way in which sound is built and used
in audiovisual products to narrate, generate sensations and configure worlds , real and fantastic,
respect to the reality of the history of fiction (which may not coincide with reality as the viewer knows
it in his own life, but that this understands and accepts as the reality of history that is being counting
within the audiovisual piece).
As Balsam refers , a sound can create emphasis in any scene that is, can function as a punctuation
mark , when it accentuates and strengthens the visual image.
This time we will focus on the analysis of the sound of a film that, in addition, to be well achieved
according to my personal appreciation, has been nominated for several awards for sound and has won
some of them. It is then a proposal that, when like others, it is convenient to analyze and understand,
to take from it what works best for us or interest, or for our future productions. For this I have chosen
the feature film Pan s labyrinth (2006) by director Guillermo del Toro; in charge of the sound Martin
Hernåndez, Jaime Baksht and Miguel Ángel Polo. I choose this movie because I think, (and this is
what I am trying to proof with this work) , that it has a sound design very detailed and congruent with
what the story tells, in which all the elements come together to create a fantastic world fairy

We live in a world of many cultures and each has it is own way of communicating and two very
different poems reflect this. In order to compare and contrast the traditions which have become
apparent within the poems; Night of the Scorpion by Nissim Ezekiel and Presents from my Aunts in

The children do not portray the scorpion as a villain; however perceive the invertebrate s sting as a
mere caution for the mother as she advanced towards its hiding place.
In contrast, the adults refer to the scorpion as the evil one displaying signs of little understanding as to
why the scorpion took such drastic actions. It has therefore become apparent that there is a possible
culture divide within the one society.
The selective use of language not only identified Ezekiel s roller coaster of emotions but also unveils
his observations concerning the villagers. Although the neighbours are not clearly analysed
individually, this simply intensifies the effect Ezekiel has on the reader through the use of the pronoun
they . Further reinforcement is clear through the development of a simile comparing the villagers to
Swarms of flies , thus highlighting the irony, as
Ezekiel uses an insect s image to describe the people s reaction to an invertebrate s sting. Through a
combination of tone, alliteration, sound and repetition, Ezekiel adds emphasis to his judgements. It
became thought provoking that Ezekiel took different tones for different aspects of the event. A prime
example of this is pinpointed through Ezekiel s

In the last decades of the Victorian period, East London was predominantly inhabited by the working
classes. The working classes mainly consisted of the native English population, Irish immigrants, and
immigrants belonging to Central and Eastern Europe and German Jews, many of whom were living in
extreme poverty and great numbers of these immigrants were residing in Whitechapel. It can be
suggested through research, that the Whitechapel murders helped historians to develop their
understanding about the viewpoint that many people had in regards to immigrants, specifically those
who belonged to the working class. This can be demonstrated through the fact that although there was
no evidence to prove that the killer was a person who belonged to the Jewish community, a number of
newspapers continued to broadcast and support the view that the murders were foreign in character.
Historian, Blair, writes, the exacerbated pre existing anti Semitism and put Jews in an unfortunate

Maya Civilization
The Maya Civilization dates to the pre class period which spans a near 2,000 years (Foster 2005).
Their traditions and their way of life and practices like monumental ceremonies and city centers
endured from 600 B.C.E until 1524 when the Spanish conquest occurred and the Mayan civilization
soon after came to a collapse (Foster 2005). The Maya civilization at its traditional prime, primarily

Characteristics Of Deep-Sea Creature Adaptions
Deep Sea Creature Adaptions Deep Sea creatures in the Bathypelagic Zone and lower must adapt to
survive. Adapting to this harsh environment didn t take only a few years, this process has occured over
millions of years and will continue to occur. Some characteristics that the organisms adapted are
things like: the ambush strategy, extended spines, smaller sizes, deep sea giantism, bioluminescence,
transparant skins, large mouths, large teeth, large stomachs, large eyes, slow metabolic rates, lateral
lines, hermaphroditism, and chemosynthesis. Scientists are still searching in the deep sea because for
organisms still not discovered. All of these adaptions contribute to the survival of deep sea creatures in
the low pressure, temperature, and low food source environment.
Bathypelagic Zone Adaptions 1,000 4,000 (3,000 13,000 ft) meters deep in the ocean where there is a
total abscence of sunlight. The large, dark ocean lessens the chance of animals catching prey. This
zone has the greatest temperature changes compared to the other zones, it contains thermocline, which
causes water temperatures to change dramatically with depth. In this wide ocean, all organisms do not
have the energy to endlessly search for food, forcing many organisms to adapt to a strategy called The
Ambush Strategy , which is when they sit and wait for prey to get closer and they attack them when
the food when they re close enough, they have also adapted to having a long dorsal spine that floats
above its head with a photophore which acts as a fishing pole to bait other animals. An example of this
sort of fish is called the Deep Sea Angler. Animals in this zone also adapted to be smaller in size
because they are entirely made of water with no air space due to high pressures. If they had air space
inside of them, the open space in their body would crush them completely. The pressure of the
Bathypelagic Zone is 800 times greater than the surfaces pressure. This is the cause of their less
developed internal organs, small eyes, thinner skin, smaller sizes compared the animals in the
Mesopelagic and Epipelagic Zone, which are located above the Bathypelagic Zone. If humans were to

Ethanol is not the energy source of the future; in fact ethanol only creates more energy problems.

  • 4. The Legacy Of Nero Claudius Caesar One of the most infamous emperor during the Roman Empire was named Nero Claudius Caesar (37 68 A.D). He was hedonistic, cruel and violent with people. Nero would always have lavish parties had no sympathy for people. As an always wanted to raise to the top even if he had to murder his own family. Since he mostly grew up with his mother Agrippina the Younger, he had a high chance to become ruler of In 54 A.D. Nero became emperor of Rome after the death of Claudius, who was thought to have been poisoned by his wife Agrippina, who also happened to be Nero s mother. Nero s real name was Lucius, but his mother decided that Nero Claudius Caesar was more suitable so she got him to change it. Agrippina was always plotting in the background. As a wife of a former emperor and mother to the current one, she saw herself as a new version of Livia. Nero was only a teenager when he came to power, just seventeen years old. Having been under the influence of his mother all his life, he now saw an opportunity to do what he wanted instead. Within the first year of his reign he had made it obvious to her that she was not going to be sharing his power. When an Armenian ambassador visited Rome, Nero did not let Agrippina sit next to him to receive the guest. During the following months, mother and son quarelled openly about his affair with an ex slave girl called Acte. He was already married to Octavia, daulghter of Claudius. Agrippina did not approve of this liaison and at this point started to get closer with Britannicus, Claudius s son with the unfortunate Messalina. When Nero saw this he realised this could be a threat to his reign, so he had Britannicus poisoned and forced Agrippina to move out of the palace, took her bodyguard away and slapped a lawsuit on her. Despite her distance from Court, Agrippina did not stop trying to interfere with things. Being the daughter of Germanicus was a big deal and this ensured she was not ignored. When Nero started an affair with Poppaea Sabina, trouble really started. Poppaea was an upper class woman who could marry Nero if he divorced Octavia. She realised that as long as Agrippina was alive, there was no way she could get Nero to marry her. At this time, it is also rumoured that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I believe that Anne Frank had a good heart despite people s decisions because of what she stated in not only this quote but also throughout the play. In other words, the exchange rate is the equalizing factor that maintains product costs relatively consistent across countries. While there are myriad of PPP calculations, there are two general approaches, absolute and relative (Hyrina Serletis, 2010). The absolute calculation relies on the nominal exchange rate and the relative accounts for fluctuations like inflation (2010). In fact, the variables of the calculation create the controversy, in that, scholars agree that there are additional non constant variables to consider and many different perspectives to view the variables. Nevertheless, despite the controversy regarding how PPP is calculated, it is used for analyzing and reporting on costs across countries by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and by global business leaders to make decisions (Investopedia, 2016). Major Article Summary In the article by Langston (2016), a positive view of using the standard PPP calculation was presented as applied it to international project cost benchmarking. His research goal was to prove that the PPP calculation, and one in particular, enables the highest level of accuracy for cost benchmarking for international businesses (Langston, 2016). He did this because current benchmarking calculations use exchange rates to first get monetary units to U.S. dollar (USD), instead of using PPP, which is a more comprehensive picture of location ... Azithromycin is an antibiotic usually prescribed in a single dose, while doxycycline must be taken twice per day for about one week. There are also other antibiotics your doctor may prescribe to you. No matter which antibiotic you are prescribed, you will need to follow the dosage instructions cautiously to make sure the infection clears up completely. This usually takes two weeks at most, during which time you will need to refrain from sexual contact. One of the most effective ways of avoiding Chlamydia is by limiting the amount of sexual partners you have. On the other hand, Patient B s limb failed due to heroin addiction, an outcome he was fully aware of as an avid user. Now, who deserves the limb transplant? If we just consider the distributive norm of need in our definition of distributive justice, we will be stuck at an impasse. Because both Patients A and B are both in dire straits, we can say that they both a have strong claim to the scarce good in question. However, if we consider including the distributive norm of equity in the definition of distributive justice, this problem can be remedied. The norm is equity is as follows: a person s claim to a scarce good should be dependent on how much of a role he or she plays in the outcome (Anderson). In other words, this would mean that those who work harder deserve a larger share of outcome than those who do not put in as much effort. In the case of organ transplants, we can apply this norm as the following: a patient s claim to an organ is dependent on how little of a role they play in their need for a transplant. This essentially means that those who play a less active role in harm caused to their organs have a better claim than those who are actively damaging their organs. Now, applying this norm to our definition of distributive justice, we will be able to determine that Patient A is more deserving of the limb transplant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Myers Briggs Personality Test can explain your own personality better than you ever thought you could. My personality falls under ESTJ, which stands for extraverted, sensing, thinking, judging. ESTJ s are usually hard workers that use logic and tradition to complete things efficiently while staying organized. They tend to be very stable people that remain loyal, dependable, and active. They enjoy creating things around the house, volunteering in the community, as well as watching and playing sports. ESTJ s are known to be great leaders, often times employed as an engineer, doctor, manager, consultant, technician, or agriculturist. I agree that I am an extraverted person because I enjoy being with others. Although I do like my occasional me time, I prefer to be spending time with friends and family. Another reason I feel I am an extravert is because I am usually confident in myself and the things I do. Having said that, being extraverted really helps with my athletic side and involvement in the community. I see God working through the history of mankind and God working throughout the history of Israel as well. I believe one can see that God is at work in the church as well. He is working to fulfill God s plans that has been in place before the foundation of the world. God s plan as the Apostle Paul says is to redeem his people in Ephesians 1:6 7. The Apostle Paul said, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, (Ephesians 1:6‭‬ 7 ESV). It is Genesis chapter 3 that we see the broken state of mankind, but God offers grace to mankind when He tells Eve her child (Jesus) would crush the serpent (Satan).‬It is through the OT text that we see the interaction with God. Von Rad believed that through this retailing and applications of the OT stories we see God himself revealed to Israel through the words and the Deeds of the texts which, swears to what God has said and done (Routledge p. 59). We can look back at history and see God s action and see a great future that lies ahead for His children. The irony of this is that slave owners saw no wrong in what they were doing, regardless of how they treated their respective slaves. This core competence is of vital importance as the inability to innovate in today s ever changing environment may lead to entropy and ultimately cessation of trade. Being truly competitive. It is crucial that a resource ultimately delivers a true competitive advantage. This core competence highlights the fact that it is not enough for an organisation just to realise the resource as being a strength, but that it must also be able to prove that it is of both better quality and at a lower cost than the competition. This in basic terms means that it is not good enough for instance to produce a low cost, high quality product, but that it must have not only lower costs than the competitors, it must also produce items of a higher quality or standard that that of its competitors. An example of this is to consider that if Rolls Royce s Far East division does not produce higher quality at a lower cost than both General Electric and Pratt amp; Whitney, it could not gain competitive advantage as this core competence would not be relevant in this situation. After a hard few years for the government in Egypt they finally recovered and Cleopatra s face started appearing alone on coins, this action broke tradition and this was the beginning of her downfall. She started to cause trouble and she eventually had to flee after trying to start an uprising only out of spite. She was exiled. And although for most rulers that is the end, this was not the case for Cleopatra. Everything seemed to fall into place after her brother angered Caesar after he ordered the death of Pompey, a powerful Roman. Cleopatra used this feud between her brother and Caesar to manipulate Caesar into helping her to regain her throne. The main goal was to have an heir to the throne and soon enough Cleopatra yet again got her way. He son, like mentioned before, became co ruler after the death of her second brother in 46 B.C. In her adult life Cleopatra would have met few people she considered her equal. To the Romans she was a stubborn, supreme exception to every rule. She remains largely incomparable: She had plenty of predecessors, few successors. With her, the age of empresses essentially came to an end. In two thousand years only one or two other women could be said to have wielded unrestricted authority over so vast a realm. Cleopatra remains nearly alone at the all male table, in possession of a hand both flush and flawed. She got a very good deal right, and one crucial thing wrong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. How Did Mark Morris Influence The World Of Dance Dance is an ever evolving form of art; in much the same way that one can categorize and differentiate between eras and styles of architecture one can also do so with dance. These eras at times have sharp delineations separating them from their antecedents, other times the distinction is far more subtle. Traditional forms of dance were challenged by choreographers attempting to expand the breadth and increase the depth of performance; preeminent among such visionaries was Seattle born dancer and choreographer Mark Morris. Mark Morris began as one of the millions of hopeful individuals attempting to simply make a career in dance; he not only succeeded but managed to have a lasting effect on the entire landscape of dance. Morris has become so well respected in his field that he was tasked with planning the ceremonies for the funeral of opera legend Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, with whom he had worked with many times and had a friendly relationship. He is seen today as one of the most enduring forces in modern dance choreography, having pioneered for decades. One of his most well known works Gloria has been performed, with adaptation, since 1981. He has also had the distinction of performing to the playing of world renowned cellist Yo Yo Ma on numerous occasions, with Ma remarking that Mark always manages to put the perfect movement to even my extemporaneous flourishes. His work on preparing for the funeral of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, and his international performances have made him recognizable around the globe. Having choreographed and or conducted (along with other recognizable choreographers) special performances for dignitaries such as 3 sitting US presidents, the Emperor of Japan, the Queen of England and a Premier of the Soviet Union has enlarged his admirers to superstar levels. Here I present my essay entitled The narrative power of sound in Pan s labyrinth of Guillermo Del Toro . It will analyze the sound design , the identification of its elements, the ways in which they are presented and their interrelations, to understand and explain how these elements work together in conjunction with the visual image, to support the narration of the story. It is within this framework that I consider important to study the way in which sound is built and used in audiovisual products to narrate, generate sensations and configure worlds , real and fantastic, respect to the reality of the history of fiction (which may not coincide with reality as the viewer knows it in his own life, but that this understands and accepts as the reality of history that is being counting within the audiovisual piece). As Balsam refers , a sound can create emphasis in any scene that is, can function as a punctuation mark , when it accentuates and strengthens the visual image. This time we will focus on the analysis of the sound of a film that, in addition, to be well achieved according to my personal appreciation, has been nominated for several awards for sound and has won some of them. It is then a proposal that, when like others, it is convenient to analyze and understand, to take from it what works best for us or interest, or for our future productions. For this I have chosen the feature film Pan s labyrinth (2006) by director Guillermo del Toro; in charge of the sound Martin HernĂĄndez, Jaime Baksht and Miguel Ángel Polo. I choose this movie because I think, (and this is what I am trying to proof with this work) , that it has a sound design very detailed and congruent with what the story tells, in which all the elements come together to create a fantastic world fairy ... The People in Night of the Scorpion and My Aunt in Pakistan Compare the way in which the poet presents the people in Night of the Scorpion and Presents from my Aunt in Pakistan. We live in a world of many cultures and each has it is own way of communicating and two very different poems reflect this. In order to compare and contrast the traditions which have become apparent within the poems; Night of the Scorpion by Nissim Ezekiel and Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan by Moniza Alvi, further analysis must take place. With retrospect of the poem Night of the Scorpion , the content explains the reactions of the villagers and surroundings to an incident whereby the poet s mother was stung by a scorpion . It is evident ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The children do not portray the scorpion as a villain; however perceive the invertebrate s sting as a mere caution for the mother as she advanced towards its hiding place. In contrast, the adults refer to the scorpion as the evil one displaying signs of little understanding as to why the scorpion took such drastic actions. It has therefore become apparent that there is a possible culture divide within the one society. The selective use of language not only identified Ezekiel s roller coaster of emotions but also unveils his observations concerning the villagers. Although the neighbours are not clearly analysed individually, this simply intensifies the effect Ezekiel has on the reader through the use of the pronoun they . Further reinforcement is clear through the development of a simile comparing the villagers to Swarms of flies , thus highlighting the irony, as Ezekiel uses an insect s image to describe the people s reaction to an invertebrate s sting. Through a combination of tone, alliteration, sound and repetition, Ezekiel adds emphasis to his judgements. It became thought provoking that Ezekiel took different tones for different aspects of the event. A prime example of this is pinpointed through Ezekiel s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The working classes mainly consisted of the native English population, Irish immigrants, and immigrants belonging to Central and Eastern Europe and German Jews, many of whom were living in extreme poverty and great numbers of these immigrants were residing in Whitechapel. It can be suggested through research, that the Whitechapel murders helped historians to develop their understanding about the viewpoint that many people had in regards to immigrants, specifically those who belonged to the working class. This can be demonstrated through the fact that although there was no evidence to prove that the killer was a person who belonged to the Jewish community, a number of newspapers continued to broadcast and support the view that the murders were foreign in character. Historian, Blair, writes, the exacerbated pre existing anti Semitism and put Jews in an unfortunate position of being a very convenient scapegoat on which to vent frustrations and fears of the working class (Blair, 1996:490). Adapting to this harsh environment didn t take only a few years, this process has occured over millions of years and will continue to occur. Some characteristics that the organisms adapted are things like: the ambush strategy, extended spines, smaller sizes, deep sea giantism, bioluminescence, transparant skins, large mouths, large teeth, large stomachs, large eyes, slow metabolic rates, lateral lines, hermaphroditism, and chemosynthesis. Scientists are still searching in the deep sea because for organisms still not discovered. All of these adaptions contribute to the survival of deep sea creatures in the low pressure, temperature, and low food source environment. Bathypelagic Zone Adaptions 1,000 4,000 (3,000 13,000 ft) meters deep in the ocean where there is a total abscence of sunlight. The large, dark ocean lessens the chance of animals catching prey. This zone has the greatest temperature changes compared to the other zones, it contains thermocline, which causes water temperatures to change dramatically with depth. In this wide ocean, all organisms do not have the energy to endlessly search for food, forcing many organisms to adapt to a strategy called The Ambush Strategy , which is when they sit and wait for prey to get closer and they attack them when the food when they re close enough, they have also adapted to having a long dorsal spine that floats above its head with a photophore which acts as a fishing pole to bait other animals. An example of this sort of fish is called the Deep Sea Angler. Animals in this zone also adapted to be smaller in size because they are entirely made of water with no air space due to high pressures. If they had air space inside of them, the open space in their body would crush them completely. The pressure of the Bathypelagic Zone is 800 times greater than the surfaces pressure. This is the cause of their less developed internal organs, small eyes, thinner skin, smaller sizes compared the animals in the Mesopelagic and Epipelagic Zone, which are located above the Bathypelagic Zone. Ethanol stimulates time travel. Alright, that s just a flat out lie. It seems that these days everybody and their brother thinks that ethanol is the magic key to the future of powering automobiles and solving the problem of dependence on foreign oil. Well, that is not the case. Ethanol is not the energy source of the future; in fact ethanol only creates more energy problems. That s a 26.5 percent drop in fuel economy. And having to drive all the way to find a service station that has ethanol will definitely not help keep the tank full, which shows that gasoline is better for mileage, kit and caboodle. (Edmunds and Reed) These two authorities in the automotive field made an addition to the experiment: performance of the same Tahoe on ethanol and gasoline. Not only were the standard 0 60 and quarter mile tests done, but also a test for something more common in everyday driving, a 50 70 miles per hour highway test. In the quarter mile test, gasoline eked out a win, taking the gold by three tenths of a second and finishing about two miles an hour faster. The naught to 60 test is where good ol fashioned gasoline blew ethanol out of the water. Gasoline was faster than ethanol by five tenths of a second in reaching the mark of 60 miles an hour. The only time ethanol was faster than gasoline was when there was a mechanical glitch in the transmission in the 50 70, but without glitches, gasoline was still faster.
