Nutritional Knowledge and Practices of Pre-School Teachers in Homa Bay Countypaperpublications3
Abstract: The main objective of this study was to investigate nutrition relationship between pre-school teachers’ nutritional knowledge and practice in Homa Bay County. The study investigated the following aspects of nutrition knowledge; balanced diet, source of nutrients, food preparation, food storage and preservation. The specific objectives were: to assess the nutritional knowledge and practices between pre-school teachers; Jerome Brunner’ (1978) theories on knowledge representation guided the study; his three modes on nutritional knowledge to the teachers and learners basically on cognitive development. The three models are enactive, iconic and symbolic. The study adopted a descriptive design to investigate the relationship between pre-school teachers’ nutritional knowledge and practices. Questionnaire, interview schedule and observation checklists were used as instruments of data collection. Data analysis was done qualitatively and quantitatively methods. Findings showed that nutritional knowledge and practices among preschool teachers is very low in Homa Bay County. Most of the respondents knew about only three food groups type, a significant number of them were unable to categorise different food types in their respective groups. Proper nutrition was found to be positively correlated with preschool children academic performance. The study also established that the relationship between pre- school teachers’ nutritional knowledge and practices was not significant. The study recommends that strategies need to be put in place to improve nutritional knowledge and practices of preschool teachers in Homa Bay County and country at large, this will be through cooperation of Ministry of Education, Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development and other policy makers in the education sector.

Identification of Focus for Community Teaching
The focus of this community teaching program is health promotion/primary prevention for Type 2 Diabetes. Health promotion initiatives involve processes of enabling people within certain communities to increase their control of their health. Health promotion activities such as the planned diabetes prevention education aim to help people to improve their health so that they can achieve a better state of physical, mental, and social wellbeing. In particular, this teaching program will help the targeted community to understand the risks of diabetes and the measures that they must take to prevent Type 2 diabetes, which is a lifestyle related illness.
Epidemiological Rationale for Topic
Type 2 diabetes is a significant health issue that affects most populations globally. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 422 million people suffer from Type 2 Diabetes in the world. This represents a significant increase from the 108 million value recorded in 1980 (WHO, 2018). The United States also has an increasing prevalence trend similar to the global statistics. Type 2 Diabetes is one of the leading public health issues affecting the U.S. population. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 9.6% of the population, representing around 21 million people in the United States have Type 2 Diabetes. Almost 1.3 million adults are diagnosed with his health condition every year (American Diabetes Association, 2017). Diabetes is also a leading cause of mortality in the United States. Georgia, which is the community of focus for this teaching program also reflects the same trends when it comes to diabetes prevalence. It is estimated that 1 in every 10 adults in Georgia has diabetes. The rates of diabetes in this state have increased by at least 50% since 2000 (Georgia Department of Health, 2015). Therefore, there is a need for health promotion to help people prevent the development of Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes means the human body cannot produce the integral chemical messenger, insulin, and sugar cannot be metabolized by the body. Five percent of all diagnosed diabetics are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes usually at a young age (ADA,2013)What the pancreas does naturally for a healthy body, breaking down sugars and starches into usually energy, does not happen and must be maintained by the patient and their caregivers. Sounds simple enough but it is a very complex process where forgetfulness has no place, add young children as those who may forget to maintain an entire chemical process and the end result could be a nightmare. Dissemination planning for type 1 diabetic education is needed to provide much needed support and up to date information regarding scientific progress of the disease. How will important update With the Center for Disease Control estimating that 11.3 percent of the population over the age of twenty in America has diabetes, whether they know it or not (www.cdc.gov-2011)it is completely necessary to educate type 1 diabetic candidates about the available genetic testing.. With over 24.8 out of 100,000 people under ten years old and 22.6 out of 100,000 less than nineteen years old. Diabetes type 1 is typically caused by outside risk like bacteria that possibly attack the immune system causing an autoimmune disorder or genetics. Whatever the cause of type I diabetes; the patient will require daily insulin injections. It is integral for optimum health benefits that patients and their families are educated early on as to gain the most benefit from intervention.
Starting with a small audience, I chose to identify and target an audience that has been predicted by the CDC to be the most growing population to be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The average Bridesburg family makes 45,000 dollars annually with only thirty percent of the residents completing high school, well below the average in the city of Philadelphia. Less than five pe.

Defecation
Normal defecation begins with movement in the left colon, moving stool toward the anus. When stool reaches the rectum, the distention causes relaxation of the internal sphincter and an awareness of the need to defecate. The Valsalva maneuver exerts pressure to expel faeces through a voluntary contraction of the abdominal muscles while maintaining forced expiration against a closed airway. IMPACTION
Fecal impaction results from unrelieved constipation. It is a collection of hardened feces wedged in the rectum that a person cannot expel. In cases of severe impaction the mass extends up into the sigmoid colon.
DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is an increase in the number of stools and the passage of liquid, unformed feces. It is associated with disorders affecting digestion, absorption, and secretion in the GI tract. Intestinal contents pass through the small and large intestine too quickly to allow for the usual absorption of fluid and nutrients. Irritation within the colon results in increased mucus secretion. As a result, feces become watery, and the patient is unable to control the urge to defecate. Normally an anal bag is safe and effective in long-term treatment of patients with fecal incontinence at home, in hospice, or in the hospital. Fecal incontinence is expensive and a potentially dangerous condition in terms of contamination and risk of skin ulceration
