In an open learning environment, teachers should provide students with resources, tools, and scaffolds. Resources can be static like unchanging information or dynamic like information that updates and evolves. Teachers should provide tools for processing, manipulating, and communicating information. Scaffolds support learning by providing conceptual, metacognitive, procedural, and strategic guidance to help students solve problems in an open-ended way. The goal is to foster a constructivist learning environment where students own the problems and learn through active, authentic problem-solving.

Problem-based Learning: PBL is any learning environment in which the problem drives the learning. That is, before students learn some knowledge they are given a problem. The problem is posed so that the students discover that they need to learn some new knowledge before they can solve the problem. Some example problem-based learning environments include:

Critical thinking is important in education for three main reasons:
1) Information is abundant but memorizing facts is less effective than learning to think critically.
2) Students must learn to evaluate different sources of information like media for reliability and bias.
3) Critical thinking skills are necessary for strategizing and problem-solving, which are important for students' futures.
Without critical thinking, education provides students only a "toolbox with no hands to open it" - students need ways to apply their knowledge and evaluate information. Teachers play an important role in fostering critical thinking skills.

Different Approaches of Teaching
