Thesis Statement On Gun Control
Over the course of the fall semester, I intend to develop a strong, yet demanding, argument that
supports my ideas and efforts to make a long lasting affect on the residents living in Saint Louis.
My advocacy project consists of informing the Saint Louis Mayor, Lyda Krewson, on issues
pertaining to gun control in the St.Louis metro area and eventually persuade her to look into
designing more efficient background checking systems for individuals wanting to bear arms.
I have been living in the Saint Louis area for seventeen years, and I have witnessed the
consequences caused by the loose regulation of guns. Many guns, including military grade
weapons, have been circulating into the wrong hands of individuals in the region. Because of this,
the crime rate in the Saint Louis area has been on the rise as well. As a St.Louis resident, I am
often informed of the harsh results related to gun violence; News stations throughout the region
report the jarring records of deaths and other injuries related to firearms. As months progress, I
started to realize that my city was making a turn for the worst. Gun control, being a relevant social
issue in St.Louis, was affecting not just the victims, but the families, friends, and the overall
communities. I started to ponder why my hometown was having such a massive issue over guns.
Although I have not been personally affected by gun violence, I do not want to become a bystander
to these casualties.Rather, I desire to improve this issue

Selfishness Is Being Selfish
A person who does a good deed for the sake of one s gratification, a person who puts personal
obligations before others, and a person who lacks the value of human life, is a person whose
forehead is stamped with a single word: selfish. Selfishness may present itself in times of danger,
especially when the decision comes to saving oneself or saving another along the way. Twenty
first century society dictates that when one is in a situation, such as being in a burning building,
they are morally obligated to do what is seen as right. As the fire engulfs the building from all
sides, deep red flames can be seen. The fire isn t only burning, but it s burning with such intensity
like the fearsome fire breathing mythological creature, Chimera. The Chimera, a hybrid of a lion,
goat, and snake, is viewed with fear or intrigue, similar to selfishness itself, so this begs the
question; is selfishness ultimately immoral, or can it be ethical?
In Examined Life, philosopher Slavoj Zizek discusses the trait that most human beings possess:
being selfish. As the documentary begins, Zizek can be seen scouring a junkyard, disclosing his
philosophy on ecology. As stated by Zizek, ecology addresses genuine problems that society is
aware of but continues to turn a blind eye. Furthermore, Zizek dives into the misconception that
people continue to make about waste and trash; people believe that waste and trash are one in the
same, however, waste disappears, but trash doesn t. While digging around

Public Art Essay
Public Art Any drawn line that speaks about identity, dignity, and unity is art, (Chaz Bojorquey)
is a statement that I agree with. Art is perceived differently from all people based on their
culture, religion, personal taste, and many other factors. I believe that as long as what has been
created is meaningful to either the creator or even to somebody that is viewing it, it should be
considered art. Art in the public is a very controversial subject that brings up the important
question of, Should public art be considered as real art, personally I think that it should be. I
believe that the difference between art that is placed in a gallery and art that is visible by a
community is the fact that what is acceptable in a gallery... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on
the younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on
a daily basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn
how to appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant
people, who do not have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of
seeing something aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more
interesting to visit; no one wants to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art
festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where they had green marbles ground up and put into the black
top roads. This sight alone made my heart race and made this town more exciting. For towns that
may have tourism it could be a way to attract to coming there or maybe even staying. Art can also
be a controversial at the same time. There are many people who express their idea of art in a
way that, in my opinion, should not be seen by the public. For example, many people consider
paintings of naked women to be art, as do I, but I do not think it is appropriate for a painting of
that nature to become a piece of public art. Another example is people who use profanity in their
art. Swearing is not appropriate for a child to see painted on the side of their neighborhood
buildings. The thing

Origins Of Sexual Orientation
One of many debatable topics nationwide today are the origins of sexual orientation. According to
the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, a leading sexual and reproductive health care
advocate and provider, sexual orientation is the gender(s) someone is sexually and/or romantically
attracted to (What is Sexual Orientation?). Society classifies people who only seek the opposite
sex as heterosexuals and those who adore the same sex, as homosexuals. But what comes to your
mind when you think of the reason for their preference(s)? Do you think that people are
influenced by society alone or can biological factors be accounted for and proved? Many people

Factors Contributing to the Wound Healing Process Essay
Wound healing is a very important aspect of the postoperative process. Depending on many
different factors pertaining to a postoperative wound; different steps can be taken to decrease a

a less noticeable scar and no infection in a wound. There are different challenges and situations a
Surgical Technologist and the surgical will have to work around. The wound healingprocess all

143 157). Wound healing can have wide variety of complications.
The complication of wound dehiscence/wound separation occurs because of excessive stress on
wounds that have not yet healed. An example is coughing or vomiting without the use of
abdominal splinting over an incision. Wound evisceration is the most serious complication of
wound dehiscence. The wound completely separates, exposing underlying viscera. This most often
occurs with abdominal incisions. ( Wound healing , 2005, p. 143 157).
Hemorrhaging is also a big concern during postop because it can happen right after surgery and
can lead to hypovolemic shock. Those are a couple of example of what could go wrong
postoperatively. The risk of infection is always present with the occurrence of a surgical wound.
Since our bodies are covered with natural flora, opportunistic pathogen infection is always a
concern. Infection can greatly affect the recovery time for a patient. A surgical will not heal
affectively when infection is present. Surgical Technologist must be aware of the implications
bestowed on them by being a part of a surgical team. We must understand the importance of aseptic
technique and surgical conscience. You have to be knowledgeable of the surgery you are
preforming, the procedures of that surgery, and the complication that may arise. Wound healing

The Seal Wolf Sparknotes
The crew of the seal hunting ship the Ghost stood in disbelief as they gazed upon their recently
departed first mate. Then a most unusual thing occurred. The captain began yelling at the dead
man like a raging storm. Oaths rolled from his lips in a continuous stream. And they were not
nice and thoughtful words or mere expressions of indecency. Each word was a blasphemy, and
there were many words. It is this lack of remorse for others that defines Wolf Larsen, the
antagonist in The Seal Wolf by Jack London. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; From the beginning of
the book you are introduced to the contrast of characters at hand. The feeble gentleman Humphrey

The forecastle was like an angry hive of bees aroused by some intruder. No man less than a giant
could have accomplished what Wolf Larsen did next. Step by step, by the might of his arms, the
whole pack of men striving to drag him back and down, he drew his body up from the floor until
he stood upright. The captain then proceeded to make his way up the ladder thus freeing him
from this group of murderous tyrants. The whole crew of the Ghost hated Wolf with a great
passion, but no one could do anything because his strength and fighting ability were unmatched.
The second aspect of Wolf Larsen that makes him so great is his mind. Larsen was born and
bred on the sea. Wolf never saw the inside of a schoolhouse. He taught himself everything he
knew by reading the great works of American literature. Poetry and novels are the only thing that
can take Wolf s mind off the sea. Through his learning he developed a quot;live for yourself only
quot; theory on life. You could use such words as egocentric or arrogant to describe Wolf s trust
no one attitude. But it s easy to see that he got that complete self reliance from his childhood.
Wolf didn t have any parents that ever took care of him. As soon as he was of a decent age
(around 10) he was on the boats as a cabin boy making his living. He taught himself reading and
writing. The only thing Wolf could be thankful for is the body he was given, everything else he got
on his own. The opposite of his

Effects of Divorce on Children
Divorce: Effects on Children
Divorce has become an unquestionable remedy for the miserably married. Currently, the United
States has the highest divorce rate in the world. Every year in the US approximately one million
children experience divorce which, is about one in every three children (Amato 21). The effects of
divorce can be tremendously painful for both children and adults. Children of divorce are more
likely to suffer from behavioral, social, academic, and psychological problems than children raised
in two parent families. The actual separation of the family will be the initial crisis that a child must
deal with but many issues such as economic hardship, moving, and other major issues may follow.

The long term effects of divorce tend to be more adverse than the short term effects.
There are several causes for the long term effects but, children are more likely to develop them if
they are exposed to all or some of the following scenarios; continuous parental fighting, the loss of
contact with a parent following the divorce, little or no discipline, and being forced to takes sides
against one parent or the other.
Many studies show that children of divorce experience a heightened level of marital conflict.
Another long term problem that may effect children of divorce are the loyalty and trust issues that
often follow them into their own relationships. Even as adults, men tend to have a hard time
dealing with the effects of divorce, they often tend to be less involved with their own children
much like the non custodial parent was with them. Many females from single parent families have
tendencies to have children out of wedlock and generally have a negative opinion of their personal
relationships. Aside from relationship issues, children of divorced parents often have significant
differences in after high school education and career choices than children of intact families (Spruijt
897).
Divorce does not have to induce long term problems. The quality and quantity of support that you
give to your child during a divorce will determine how well

History of the U.S. Health Care Delivery System
Introduction:
In order to understand current health delivery services changes and formulate predictions, one
must thoroughly comprehend the three developmental eras of the health care system. The
evolution of our current health care system began in 1850, and has metamorphosed in three time
periods, 1850 to 1900, 1900 to World War II (WW II), and WW II to 2009. Significant distinct and
overlapping trends in disease prevalence, availability of health care resources, social organizations,
and the public s knowledge and perception of health and illness and technology.

Nursing care was unscientific and consisted of assisting patients with usual body functions; and
was typically administered by women of a religious order or by women who by nature of their
lifestyle frequented hospitals. Hospital care was for the poor and destitute; since home based
medical care was better than risking additional infections in the dirty, crowded, and disease ridden
hospitals. During the typhus epidemic of 1852, hospital staff and patients suffered the greatest
morbidity and mortality. (Ranade , 199817 19)
1900 World War II: Birthing of Scientific Medicine
New discoveries spawn more medical research in medical colleges. In 1910, Abraham Flexner of
the Carnegie Foundation publishes his study on medical education, and induces major medical
education reform. Medical knowledge flourishes and specialists account for 20% of physicians in
1940. Hospitals begin to embellish new medical technology as physicians relied on the hospital as
a source of access to new technology and as a facility in which to care for their sickest patients.

American Social Class Differences
Social Class Differences According to Brenda Allen in her book Difference Matters, social class
is associated with the allocation of power and resources. It is a stratification system that is one of
the biggest predictors of academic achievement. It is widely held in the US that the more financial,
cultural, and social capital (Bourdieu) you have, the more likely you will get a better quality
educationthat will lead to a higher paying job. In the film, Idris and Seun come from different
class backgrounds. Even though they are both considered as members of the middle class, Idris
seems to have more capital because both of his parents are successful professionals who are Ivy

The Ascent Of Mount Ventoux Summary
The Renaissance was a cultural, economic, and political movement that emerged in Italy in the
fifteenth century. The Renaissance marked the leap from the Medieval era to the Modern Age and
brought with it a great cultural transformation, not only of the arts, but also of the sciences, letters
and forms of thought. Francesco Petrarch and Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola were two Renaissance
men who changed the ideals and ways of seeing the world that emerged during the Medieval Age.
In the letter The Ascent of Mount Ventoux , Petrarch describes his human experience when he
climbed Mount Ventoux with his brother and his two servants. The reason why Petrarch wanted
to achieve this goal was for the simple fact of living a personal experience. Petrarch declared that
my only motive was the wish to see what so great an elevation had to offer. This statement allows

In medieval thought, everything revolved around god and the church, where personal motives had
no purpose if they had no relationship with any divine being. Petrarch s personal experience had
no purpose in glorifying or seeking God, but rather in discovering truth and happiness on his own.
This new way of thinking was considered part of the Renaissance because Petrarch uses reason as a
source of knowledge, and seeks the truth through personal reflection and research.
On the other hand, Giovanni had to analyze and question a concept different from Petrarch. For
Giovanni, the idea of Abdala the Sarraceno and Hermes Trismegisto that man is an intermediary
between creatures and interpreter of nature by sense, reason and intelligence, are not enough to
understand the condition of human nature. In the Oration on the Dignity of Man written in 1486,
Giovanni explains to us why man is the most fortunate and prestigious being in the world, and why
the human being is an intermediary between animals and angels

... I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with
a gun in his hand. It s when you know you re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and
you see through it not matter what (Lee, 11). This book is a story about two siblings that
experienced many things throughout the whole book, most of them hard and new to them, but at
the end, they assimilated to face these things. Their father, Atticus, was a lawyer who did
everything at his hands to always do the right thing, and as a result of that, Jem and Scout met
several circumstances that other kids weren t exposed to and they learned to forgive and and

The Structure Of The Skeletal Muscle Essay
In mammals, there are an abundant amount of varying systems and components that all work
together in order for the body to function properly and sustain life; one of those components that
have a great portion of responsibility is the skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is responsible for a
great portion of movements of the body, such as transportation, obtaining food, and fight or flight
responses. Muscles are composed myofibrils, which when grouped together forms musclefibers and
when those are grouped together they form muscles fascicles; multiple muscle fascicles are formed
together to form skeletal muscles. All skeletal muscles are motor neuron dependent and composed
of muscle fibers that are innervated by a motor axon and together form what is known as the motor
unit. The muscle fibers all work together to form a muscle contraction, which is initiated by a
neuronal action potential. The action potential can be activated one of two ways, it can be either
voluntary by the person or it can be in voluntary, which would include electrical stimulation to the
peripheral nerve. After the action potential is initiated, a neurotransmitter is released in the
neuromuscular junction, which results in the depolarization of the muscle or a contraction
(Schiaffino, Blaauw, Dyar, 2016). There are several different ways to measure the overall activity
of skeletal muscles; one way deals with the electrical activity. During a contraction of skeletal
muscles a significant amount of

Diarrheal Research Paper
Diarrheal is an intestinal disorder in which an individual is induced to frequently release fecal.
This consistent fluid loss leads to dehydration and nutrient loss. If an individual is not able to
replace the loss in due amount of time, this can eventually lead to death. Nevertheless, although it
may seem diarrheal (the constant release of fecal) is the cause of painful effects, it is not. Rather
diarrhea is a mechanism the body uses to get rid of the harmful bacteria(pathogen) inside the body.
The pathogen is typically presented in the water and food one consumes, and is injected in the
body. This infection known as amoebiasis is most prevalent in developing countries, because water

Ideal Woman
An Ideal Woman
In high school, I was given the task of interviewing someone that lived during the Great
Depression. Instantly my grandmother came to my mind. Ruth LaCoste was born in 1930.
Unlike my grandfather who was always telling tales, she never spoke of her childhood. I knew
she was my ideal of what a woman should be. Until this interview, I did not know how true that
was. She can best be summed up by a quote from GB Shaw, Mrs. Warren s Profession 1893,
People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don t believe in circumstances.
The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they
want, and, if they can t find them, make them. In short, Ruth LaCoste Rebardi represents
perseverance, independence, and family. She symbolizes my ideal woman.
Ruth LaCoste Rebardi represents perseverance by not being a product of her circumstances.

the fourth of seven children. Hans and Julia were uneducated trappers in the bayous of South

Subprime lending has been a part of the financial industry for decades. Liberalization of lending

is the practice of lending to borrowers who do not have the financial stability to qualify for a

Elements Of Mise-En Scene In Boogie Nights
In the film, Boogie Nights, the director, Paul Thomas Anderson utilizes elements of mise en scene
such as the natural acting and impressive use of space, with engrossing shot choice and complex
camera movement in his cinematography as he brings the audience into the atmospheric, realistic,
and vibrant world of the 1970s. This is displayed effectively in the films fantastic opening tracking
shot.
The opening scene of Boogie Nights is very ambitious as its goal is to introduce us to the time
period and the many characters that inhabit the world of the film. The scene opens in 1977 at the
Hot Traxx Disco in the San Fernando Valley. Right from the opening, the film just captures the
zeitgeist of the time. The culture is underlined by the costumes. In the 1970s, clothing considered
fashionable was such things as bell bottoms, flares, platform shoes, disco suits, and ete. They are
specifically seen in the background when Jack is driving to the nightclub. This is further shown in
the nightclub where everyone is dressed very fashionably. Moreover, there is a significance and
meaning to the costume design. The costumes dictate what roles these people had. A prime
example of this is in the background, which shows how men and women were portrayed in society.

of how he was able to handle all these characters and the sleekness of Elswit s camerawork. The
lighting helps further that style. His framing is out of this world because he manages to do all
these tasks in just one shot without a single edit. His sounds and more specifically, his use of Best

The Flappers Of The 1920 s
Roaring Twenties. The end of WW1 resulted in a new era in which people with money wanted to
enjoy themselves. The U.S economy was booming, profits were increased, resulting in the
Roaring Twenties. The events of WW1 had left many young women disillusioned and led them to
question traditional morality and values which resulted in the rebellious behavior of the Flappers
(Henderson). The increase in leisure time provided people the ability to dance, and listen to the up
and coming jazz. The Flappers of the 1920 s represented Modernism and typified the clash of
values and the changing status of women of the new era. Most women in the 1920s, not just the
young Flappers, abandoned traditional, restrictive women s clothes, such as long dresses and tight
corsets, to free themselves of the shackles of the Victorian era. The free spirited Flappers cut their
hair, listened to jazz and scandalized the older generation (Bode 134). The independent and
unconventional attitudes of the Flappers challenged the traditional ideas by wearing short skirts,
bobbed hairstyles, make up and cosmetics. Flappers began drinking and smoking in public and
became more promiscuous during the 1920 s.
Women were much more than just staying home with their kids and doing house work. They
become independent both financially and literally. They worked hard for the same or greater
equality as men. All this brought them much much closer to their goal. In the 1920 s the term flapper

Theme Of Violence In A Clockwork Orange And Bonnie And Clyde
Paramount themes of violence and extensive uses of graphic imagery are imperative motifs in the
classic films, A Clockwork Orange and Bonnie and Clyde. Comparably, these two films use the
element of violence to add insight to characters, environment, and further evoke emotions from
audiences alike. Directors Stanley Kubrick and Arthur Penn began to push the boundaries of what
is deemed acceptable in the filmindustry by introducing unprecedented levels of graphic content
and directional methods of displaying such. On one hand, A Clockwork Orangewas released to
American audiences under an X rating due to its brash depictions of violence, rape, sex, and crude
language (Thrawn, Clockwork Orange the X Rating ). Regardless, Kubrick chose to include the
entirety of what was described in the novella due to its integral part in shaping the dystopian
environment and main character Alex McDowell. Narrations of our protagonist s innermost
thoughts accompanied by the true colors of his actions aides in building a complete understanding
of societal and personal morals. Bonnie and Clydesimilarly uses the harsh reality of violence as a
tool to help set the overall tone of the film. The story of famous outlaws, Bonnie and Clyde, is
glorified as well as equally condemned through graphic and bloody shootouts where they can be
seen ruthlessly taking the lives of innocent people. The choice to amplify the intensity of violence
in this movie is cohesive in laying the framework for character values within the two and creates a
much more dramatic depiction of the infamous crimes that took place in the 30 s. Throughout both
of these films, audiences are given the raw imagery necessary to create accurate and theatrical
depictions of our characters actions that define their personalities and surroundings.
During the 1960 s, as cultural values changed, revisions were made regarding the film rating
system previously established by the Motion Picture Association of America. This change opened
up the door to take more artistic freedom when producing their movies (Dirks, Film History of the
1960s ). Although Bonnie and Clyde was released a year before the update, we can still see the
progressive approach towards violence through

What Influence Did John Calvin Have On Church History
WHAT INFLUENCE DID JOHN CALVIN HAVE ON CHURCH HISTORY John Calvin was
born at Noyon, France, on 10 July 1509, the son of a notary. He went to the University of Paris in
1523 (it was not unusual to attend university at so young an age), where he learned Latin from the
humanist Mathurin Cordier. He developed a strong love of languages and earned his Master of
Arts in 1528 in theology. Then, in 1532, Calvin experienced a spiritual conversion. It was typical of
Calvin that he gives us virtually no details of this crucial moment in his life. In contrast with Luther,
who is extensively autobiographical, Calvin wrote merely that he had experienced a sudden
conversion, and we must be satisfied with that ( The Reformation: Calvin. The Reformation:
Calvin. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Sept. 2015.). John Calvinis not at the last place level on an equivalence
with Martin Luther as the inventor of the Reformation. Actually, Luther s followers produced a
formal church; however, Calvin s followers created several churches; to name a few the French
Huguenots, the English Puritans, the Scottish Presbyterians, and the Dutch Reformed Church. In
fact, Calvin had an outstanding way to the German lands, and Luther had a large influence in
Western Europe, however, you will not stray incorrectly by going to see Calvin s influence in the
churches west of the Rhine River, and Luther s hand in the churches east of the Rhine.
Likely the best known aspect of Calvinist theology regards predestination,

ways. Each one of these achieve their leadership roles in different ways and are held to different
standards. Some of these kings include King Frodi, King Hegi, and of course King Hrolf Kraki.
King Frodi is one of the first kings mentioned in The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki and portrayed as
the jealous, cold hearted brother of Halfdan. King Frodi and King Halfdan both achieved their
leadership due to being sons of a previous king. We are told the King Frodi envied his brother
because he ruled Denmark, so much so that he gathered a group of men and burned and destroyed

King Helgi then used a beggar to trick Queen Olof into going into the woods in the search of
treasure. King Helgi then took her and raped her. This shows how although kings during that
time were seen to be ideal warriors, they were also flawed. Like King Frodi, King Helgi lacked
some morals and eventually suffers the consequences of his actions when his daughter Yrsa
who later found out that he was her father and he had raped her mother, had him attacked. Then
there is King Hrolf Kraki who shows us an example of what was a truly great king. King Hrolf
has most of the honorable traits of that time that allowed him to obtain his leader ship along
with his fame. Hrolf was for the most part successful in his battles due to being able to gather up
many noble warriors who were called King Hrolf s Champions He treated these mean with a
certain brotherhood that isn t really shown by the other kings in the Saga. This appears to be an
important trait for him to have during this time and it works in his favor. As more men heard
about how he honored his champions, they were attracted towards him which allowed him to
build a decent sized army of warriors. An example of this happening is when Svipdag told his
king that he was leaving because he wanted to look for a king who will honour (Pg. 30) him and
his brothers more. Although King Hrolf Kraki had many honorable traits he too was flawed like
most people. One mistake

Taking a Look at Ellen Degenres
Ellen DeGeneres, beloved media icon and entertainment pioneer, have reached deep into the
audiences hearts since her first comedy stand up appearances in the eighties through her works on
television today. While many Americans now know DeGeneres for her syndicated talk show, The

movement throughout the course of her career.
One issue that Ellen DeGeneres fights against is adolescence bullying cases in America. In the past
years, DeGeneres and her show have partnered with Trevor Project and Pacer Center to raise
funding and awareness for the anti bullying movement in the United States. DeGeneres even
launched the PSA titled Be Kind in her effort to spread awareness. Although she might just be one
of many advocators against bullying, her popularity greatly contributed to the spread of the
movement. With Ellen DeGeneres s effort, America is one step closer to eradicating bullying.
During national crisis, Ellen DeGeneres reaches out to many Americans to comfort and relieve

Diction In Ovid s Metamorphose
Ovid s Metamorphoses is an exceptionally written epic poem that is broken down into fifteen
books. Throughout these books, tales of woe, danger, adventure, and love are told in a way that

Narcissus and Echo is told using beautiful diction and vivid imagery. The story is ultimately about a

The Water Systems At Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, And Mckinney...
Our study determined how detrimental pet activity is on the environment, more specifically the
water systems at Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, and McKinney Falls. My hypothesis was the if there is
human and pet activity near water ways, there will be an increase in algae boom and chlorophyll a
concentration because bacteria body material, and feces of the dog affects the water s health. Our
results did not agree with our hypothesis because Chlorophyll a concentration was higher at
McKinney Falls, where there was the most pet activity, and lower at Bulls Creek, even though pets
were allowed also. Additionally, the Wild Basin, where there were no pets allowed, had samples
with an unexpectedly high chlorophyll a concentration compared to the samples from Bulls Creek.
Other factors including canopy cover, and urban runoff could have also altered water quality.
I infer that the water quality was affected more by other factors. The two sites with about the same
amount of human activity were McKinney Falls State Park and Bulls Creek. On the other hand,
Wild Basin swimming is not allowed. Our results showed that the order from greatest to least
amount of nitrate and phosphorous concentration was Bulls Creek, McKinney Falls, and Wild
Basin at the lowest. Hence, because Bulls Creek was had the high amounts of human activity and
nitrate and phosphorous levels, this relates

Conducting A Norm Experiment
In today s society, norms are expected by everyone. According to the book Essentials of
Sociology a Down To Earth Approach, Hansen states that norms are expectations of right behavior
(Hansen, 2014). There are also two forms of norms that may be strictly enforced or not. There is
folkways and mores. Folkwaysare norms that aren t strictly enforced while mores are strictly
enforced for essential thought to care values or the well being of a group (Hansen, 2014). Along
with a norm and the two types, there may also be reactions to it. These reactions may be positive
or negative and termed as sanctions. Sanctions are either expressions of an approval given to
people for upholding norms or expression of disapproval for violating them (Hansen, 2014). In
conducting a norm experiment, the terms were put to a test. The experiment consisted of an
observed norm violation and an individual norm violation. The experiments resulted in what I had

In the observe norm violation experiment, it was concluded to result in negative sanction. The

However, these are personal, or private, rights, and are therefore limited in the work force. Once
one brings these personal rights, more specifically freedom of religion, into the work force, they
violate the separation of church and state. The separation of church and state is simply a law
preventing government officials to serve with biased opinions based on personal beliefs. All
government agents are expected to serve with an unbiased opinion, and it is difficult to do that if one

Kim Davis has sparked the interests of thousands all over the country, and even some all over the
world. In getting everyone s attention, Kim Davis has managed to stir up quite an argument as
well. Although this dispute has gotten a bit messy, underneath the crossfire of conflicting opinions,
there are the underlying truths of the story. Kim Davis is a citizen of the United States, and as a U.S.
citizen, Davis s personal beliefs, and the freedom to express them, are protected by the First
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which states, Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
government for a redress of grievances (US Const. amend. I). Proponents of Davis argue that not
only does she have the freedom to believe what she wants, but she has the freedom to express her
beliefs as well. Though Kim Davis s beliefs are protected by the First Amendment, the right for
same sex couples to marry is protected by section one of the Fourteenth Amendment, which states,
No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens

A Strong Response Reflective Essay
Strong Response Reflective essay
You are confined only by the walls you build yourself, such a short phrase with an enormous
meaning. Isolation is increasing immensely in my life since social media is taking such a huge roll
in it. I notice the continuous blank stare at my phone as I roam the halls of Florida International
University. It s like my social anxiety is a broken leg and my cellphone is my crutch. My
cellphone brings me so much comfort, although I am comforted, I feel so disconnected with the
world. Learning is much easier through social media websites. I am so anti social not only around
school, but with myself. Bringing me to the conclusion that social media is a negative impact in my
daily life for more than one reason. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a few weeks, I decide that it is time to put my phone down and begin to make more
connections. For the first time, I walk around Graham Center with a smile on my face. I am
ready to start conversations I have urged to begin with my FIU peers and professors. I feel this
explosion of happiness as questions, conversations, and sign up sheets are being thrown my
way. To my astonishment, these students are taking an interest in me because my eyes aren t
locked to my cellphone. Jessica Winter states Instagram messes more with your sense of time
and I couldn t agree more. I have been wasting precious time on social media that I can use to
grow my circle here at FIU instead. Filters and likes are all people seek on social media, but my
thumbs and mind take over me and give them what they want. This time it seems someone is
letting me borrow a spare key to unlock the handcuffs that chain my cellphone and I together.
Sitting down in class, I witness my professor coming through the door. He is ready to bring us
new information that I can t seem to understand sometimes. As our professor gets more in depth
with our lesson, hands are preparing to launch like a rocket ship. These students are ready to blast
off with questions that they plead answers for. I quietly say to myself that there is no need to raise
my hand during class. Out of the forty students, why would my professor choose me when I have a

Professional counselors and their staff are exposed to sensitive client information and records. The
helpful receptionist and whose privilege videos, show how to apply both the American Counseling
Association Code of Ethics (ACA Code of Ethics) and state board counseling laws to common
ethical scenarios. The content explores aspects designed to call attention to favorable and
unfavorable skills and techniques in handling such matters. These two videos demonstrate the
limitations of confidentiality and privileged information. As a professional counselor one is
expected to uphold the principles of confidentiality and privilege according to the ACA Code of

confidentiality. While the whose privilege video indicates the significance of insuring that
counselors comprehend state laws and ethics codes pertaining to confidentiality and privilege.
Furthermore, counseling professionals are held accountable for violating ethics codes and state
laws as well as training staff on informed consent.
In the helpful receptionist video, the receptionist violates the principle of confidentiality by

Long Grove Company s Mission Essay
Long Grove Confectionery Company founded by John and Heidi Mangel started the company
as a retail business in 1975. Locating in Long Grove, IL, the original Long Grove Confectionery
was a retail shop and candy kitchen that was housed in a nostalgic replica of a red schoolhouse.
After a successful ten years, Long Grove Confectionery had outgrown a small kitchen and
moved its production to a 25,000 square feet facility in Buffalo Grove, IL. Shortly after that
transition, Long Grove Confectionary added another 60,000 square feet which increased its
total size to 85,000 square feet in order to meet the rising demand from its retail and wholesale
customers. In June of 2013, Long Grove Confectionery Company was sold to Craig Leva; the
president and owner of a Chicago based chocolate company Arway Confections, Inc. With the
expertise of Craig Leva, Long Grove Confectionery Company was able to stay alive through its
hardships in 2013 when John and Heidi Mangel had retired. Today, Long Grove Confectionery
Company s mission is to deliver their customers quality products with a sense of pride,
friendliness, warmth, and outstanding customer service. Introduction Sales Tactics On my visit to
Long Grove Confectionery, the factory tour was led by Jane, a salesperson in the outlet store of

Dating Is The Best Husband A Woman
Dating Methods
An archaeologist is the best husband a woman can have.
The older she gets the more interested he is in her. A. Christie
Archaeological dating methods can be divided in two categories, relative and absolute dating.
Relative dating in archaeology presumes the age of an artefact in relation and by comparison, to
other objects found around it. Limits for relative dating are that it cannot provide an accurate year
or a specific date of use, it is a more subjective approach. A more precise and accurate archaeology
dating system is known as absolute dating and can in most circumstances provide a calendar year
to an object . Absolute dating is in my opinion the way to go because it allows for a more precise
and more scientific answers. Within the absolute dating techniques, Carbon 14 seems to be the
golden standard as Renfrew and Bahn state: Radiocarbon is the single most useful method of dating
for the archaeologist, even though it has some limitations. Important to note is that, the relatively
short half life of carbon 14, 5,730 years, makes the reliability only up to about 75,000 years. As the
case study of the royal tomb of Solokha revealed, it is not a perfect method, but currently, it is as
close as it gets. First, radiocarbon looks at the subatomic particles that constantly bombard the earth
and produce high energy neutrons. When the neutrons collide with the nitrogen atoms present in
the earth s atmosphere, they produce atoms of Carbon 14. These atoms

Play By Anita Act 2 Analysis
1)Misto motivation to write to play was that five decades the Government was silence about the
Women s incarceration and their horrific experiences inside the prison camps. The fact that the
nurses were not recognised for their contributions in WW2, made Misto more frustrated and
motivated to write the play. He wanted to build a memorial to commemorate the works of the
women but did not have the power to build one, and therefore it he wrote a play instead.
2)The historical context of the play is based on WW2, as the Japanese forces invaded Singapore
in 1941. (Which was one of Britain s treasures at the time). Australian and British forces worked
together to fight of the Japanese from advancing. As a result of this war many people were
captured by the Japanese forces and put into POW camps, (especially women and children), where
they were tortured and killed.
3)Two characters, representing an Australian Catholic nurse (Bridie) and the other a young British
school girl (Sheila), that are commemorated for their contributions in WW2 and ... Show more

The setting throughout the play runs on two locations, the TV studio and the motel room. The TV
studio is a depersonalised, formal space shown by the On air sign indicating that what is being
heard is being recorded and filmed. The interview makes Bridie and Sheila more cautious of what
they tend reveal to the public as effective stage directions reveals that Sheila feels nervous and
uncomfortable, to share her experiences. On the other hand, the motel generates a different tension
as emotional disclosures take place; where their comments are more acrimonious and hurtful. Misto
uses the interplay between of these two locales to provide the audience a historical documentation
of wartime suffering, through a very personal and emotional story of two women that have kept
their experiences a secret for 50

The Material Selection For Disc
3.1 Material Selection for Disc A turbine disc rotates at high angular velocity and operates at
higher temperature. High angular velocity induces higher centrifugal stress and high temperature
gradient induces higher thermal stress. This operating condition demands that material used for
the turbine disc should have high strength even at elevated temperature. Specifically, the tensile
yield strength should be high enough to withstand centrifugal stress developed by disc and axial
loading by blades and the fatigue strength should be high enough to withstand high stress and
low cycle fatigue. In addition to LCF concern, materials for modern turbine disc were driven by
commercial constraints like lower component cost, life cycle and maintenance cost. Materials
like wasploy, Cr Mo Vo alloys, A 286 alloys were used earlier but they have low yield and fatigue
strength at higher temperature. Inorder to compensate these demands Ni based super alloys
Udimet 720 and Inconel 718 are used. These alloys offer efficient compromise between
performance and economics. The key properties of Ni based super alloys are: 1. They have high
stiffness and tensile yield strength at higher temperature to ensure accurate blade location and
resistance to over speed burst failure. 2. They are resistant to high temperature oxidation and hot
corrosion attack. 3. They also have the ability to withstand fretting damage at mechanical fitting. 4.

The Crusade For Reconstruction ( Jihad )
The organization was to take charge of the assets of the Pahlavi Foundation and to use the proceeds
to assist low income groups. The new foundation in time came to be one of the largest
conglomerates in the country, controlling hundreds of confiscated and nationalized factories,
trading firms, farms, and apartment and office buildings, as well as two large newspaper chains.
The Crusade for Reconstruction (Jihad), established in June, recruited young people for

Because Arab states, including Iraq, had in the past laid claim to Khuzestan as part of the Arab
homeland, the government was bound to regard an indigenous movement among the Arabic
speaking population with suspicion. The government also suspected that scattered instances of
sabotage in the oil fields were occurring with Iraqi connivance. In May 1979, government forces
responded to these disturbances by firing on Arab demonstrators in Khorramshahr.
Several demonstrators were killed; others were shot on orders of the local revolutionary court. The
government subsequently quietly transferred the religious leader of the Khuzestan Arabs, Ayatollah
Mohammad Taher Shubayr al Khaqani, to Qom, where he was kept under house arrest. These
measures ended further protests.
The Kurdish uprising proved more deep rooted, serious, and durable. The Kurdish leaders were
disappointed that the Revolution had not brought them the local autonomy they had long desired.
Scattered fighting began in March 1979 between government and Kurdish forces and continued
after a brief cease fire; attempts at negotiation proved abortive. One faction, led by Ahmad
Muftizadeh, the Friday prayer leader in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdish culture, was ready to
accept the limited concessions offered by the government.
The Kurdish Democratic Party, a more radical group issued demands that the authorities in Tehran
did not feel they could accept.
These included the enlargement of the

Persuasive Essay On The Standard Of Beauty
When thirteen year old Alyssa looks into the mirror, she runs through a list of everything she
hates about her body, I wish my stomach was flatter, my chest was bigger, my thighs were
skinnier, my arms were more toned, and my waist was smaller. She looks into the mirror,
comparing her body to the bodies of her friends, celebrities and the images she sees in magazines.
Alyssa does not look like all those girls and this makes her feel gross, insecure and out of place.

The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, unlike the American s do not gather statistics, but
Canadian surgeons say they are seeing the same increase in plastic surgery among the millennial
youth (Thomas, 2015). The statistics on teenagers and plastic surgery are shocking, but this is not
surprising because teens are vulnerable to having issues with poor body image, and this results in
feeling like there is no other option other than plastic surgery. They want to look perfect and fit in
with society. Teens should not have to turn to operations to physically change their bodies just to fit
in with today s beauty standards.
High standards of beauty are causing girls to lose out on opportunities because they feel they
will be judged for the way they look and this leads to eating disorders, unhealthy diets and overall
poor health. In a world surrounded by celebrities and fashion models who look impossibly thin,
a message is sent to teens that they must look this way to be socially accepted. This message can
lead to unhealthy eating habits and self esteem issues. Approximately 75 percent of girls as
young as nine years old have dieted two to five times in a given year and at any given time, 5 to
10 million women and girls globally have eating disorders that harm their health (Flynt, 2009).
Teens all over the world, especially in Western society, are being diagnosed with eating disorder

Portrayal Of Women In Persepolis
Women in our society have been treated as a sideline, not included, and muted across our
generations. In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi shows religion and authority to
portray that women in the text are marginalized, excluded, and silenced. This graphic novel takes
place in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, which influenced a lot of how women were treated. The
women in Persepolis are marginalized, excluded, and silenced by restricted communication,
forbidden to wear what they want, and not always having control of their actions. Persepolis
demonstrates women being marginalized, excluded, and silenced through restricted
communication. In the chapter The Key , the girls are being marginalized and silenced by Marji
explaining a mandatory self flagellationritual they perform twice a day as mourning the dead of
the war, Marji says, ...And we had to beat our chests in a voice over, as a way of telling us she
had no choice in the ritual or to speak during it(95). The image for the self flagellation
additionally portrays this thought by everyone executing the same beating, dressed the same, and
their emanata expresses a straight face looking forward in silence. Satrapi also goes on saying
and showing for initiation for the beginning of school, all the girls are illustrated as confused with
question marks above them as indication, as the icon/teacher says, Let s go children on the
heart(96) Satrapi only speaks in voiceovers as a way of indicating she, and no

Fifteen By William Stafford Analysis
Fifteen, by William Stafford is a free verse poem about age. In the poem he talks about being a
fifteen year old boy in which he refers to himself as South on the ridge on Seventeenth (Stafford
Line 1). Where he means that he is not yet seventeen, but he is almost there. He was taking a
walk one day during the summer when he came across a motorcycle with the engine still running.
He picks up the motorcycle and observed it with much awe. He was very fond of the motorcycle,
he admired it very much. He imagined taking off on the motorcycle, then in the grass next to him,
he saw the owner of the motorcycle. But instead of taking off on the motorcycle he helped the
owner up, then realizing that he was in a motorcycle crash. The owner greeted... Show more content

Stafford s idea was very vivid. It started out in the first line of the poem. South of the bridge of
Seventeenth (Stafford Line 1), which I stated previously. He described where he was on the
roads, while also making a play on words by describing his age stance. He is a fifteen year old
boy, as many can tell by the name of the poem. He farther asserted his idea with this initial
opening line, stating that he is under seventeen years old, but he is close to crossing the bridge
to being seventeen. Following after, more into the poem he talks about discovering a
motorcycle on the side of the road with the engine still running. He grabs the motorcycle and
grasps the handles as if he is about to take off. I admired all that pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks,
the demure headlights fringed where it lay (Stafford Line 6 8). He became particularly attracted
to the motorcycle, as if it were an actual human, like a friend. The overall theme clarify s the
aging process, he is fifteen, but closer to seventeen. Every event in the poem shows his still
younger, naive side. The naive feelings comply to the fact that he is only fifteen. The line I was
fifteen was repeated several times to push the theme into the readers

Eukaryotic Cell Functions
All eukaryotic cells have microtubules, which are hollow rods assembled from a globular protein
called tubulin. Microtubules grow in length by adding tubulin dimers. Those dimers can also be
disassembled, which would allow the tubulin to build microtubules elsewhere in the cell. The two
opposite ends of of a microtubule are actually pretty unique. One end can can accumulate or release
tubulin dimers at a much higher rate which allows it to grow or shrink during cellular activities
(Campbell, pg.114). The microtubules and the motor proteins of a cell are closely related, which is
why I must introduce some of there functions. Cell motility generally requires interaction if the
cytoskeletonwith motor proteins. They work together with plasma... Show more content on

Now we are presented with microtubules again and this time I shall describe to you why this is
part of the correct choice. As microtubules structure actually serves as tracks, which organelles
that are equipped with motor proteins can use to move. That seems like one of the two functions
we were looking for that contribute to movement within a cell. Microtubules are often handled
with the task of guiding vesicles from the ER to the Golgi apparatus (Campbell, pg. 114). The
next part of choice B is motor proteins, which are often compared to as feet or how the cell walks
to their destination. They use the tracks provided by the cytoskeleton. The motor protein kind
work with the cytoskeleton and the plasma membrane molecules, which allow whole cells to move
along fibers on the exterior portion of the cell (Campbell, pg.113). Choice B is correct.
Choice C. I don t want to repeat myself and sound repetitive so I tried to give a detailed response
to choice A as to why actin filaments is incorrect. Actin filaments is more of a structural
component of the cell aiding it in bearing tension (Campbell, pg. 114) Motor proteins I tried to give
a detailed description in choice B as to why it is correct. Motor proteins work with various parts of
the cell to allow whole portions of a cell to move along fibers outside the cell (Campbell, pg.113).

  • 2. Thesis Statement On Gun Control Over the course of the fall semester, I intend to develop a strong, yet demanding, argument that supports my ideas and efforts to make a long lasting affect on the residents living in Saint Louis. My advocacy project consists of informing the Saint Louis Mayor, Lyda Krewson, on issues pertaining to gun control in the St.Louis metro area and eventually persuade her to look into designing more efficient background checking systems for individuals wanting to bear arms. I have been living in the Saint Louis area for seventeen years, and I have witnessed the consequences caused by the loose regulation of guns. Many guns, including military grade weapons, have been circulating into the wrong hands of individuals in the region. Because of this, the crime rate in the Saint Louis area has been on the rise as well. As a St.Louis resident, I am often informed of the harsh results related to gun violence; News stations throughout the region report the jarring records of deaths and other injuries related to firearms. As months progress, I started to realize that my city was making a turn for the worst. Gun control, being a relevant social issue in St.Louis, was affecting not just the victims, but the families, friends, and the overall communities. I started to ponder why my hometown was having such a massive issue over guns. Although I have not been personally affected by gun violence, I do not want to become a bystander to these casualties.Rather, I desire to improve this issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Selfishness Is Being Selfish A person who does a good deed for the sake of one s gratification, a person who puts personal obligations before others, and a person who lacks the value of human life, is a person whose forehead is stamped with a single word: selfish. Selfishness may present itself in times of danger, especially when the decision comes to saving oneself or saving another along the way. Twenty first century society dictates that when one is in a situation, such as being in a burning building, they are morally obligated to do what is seen as right. As the fire engulfs the building from all sides, deep red flames can be seen. The fire isn t only burning, but it s burning with such intensity like the fearsome fire breathing mythological creature, Chimera. The Chimera, a hybrid of a lion, goat, and snake, is viewed with fear or intrigue, similar to selfishness itself, so this begs the question; is selfishness ultimately immoral, or can it be ethical? In Examined Life, philosopher Slavoj Zizek discusses the trait that most human beings possess: being selfish. As the documentary begins, Zizek can be seen scouring a junkyard, disclosing his philosophy on ecology. As stated by Zizek, ecology addresses genuine problems that society is aware of but continues to turn a blind eye. Furthermore, Zizek dives into the misconception that people continue to make about waste and trash; people believe that waste and trash are one in the same, however, waste disappears, but trash doesn t. • 4. Public Art Essay Public Art Any drawn line that speaks about identity, dignity, and unity is art, (Chaz Bojorquey) is a statement that I agree with. Art is perceived differently from all people based on their culture, religion, personal taste, and many other factors. I believe that as long as what has been created is meaningful to either the creator or even to somebody that is viewing it, it should be considered art. Art in the public is a very controversial subject that brings up the important question of, Should public art be considered as real art, personally I think that it should be. I believe that the difference between art that is placed in a gallery and art that is visible by a community is the fact that what is acceptable in a gallery... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another possibly positive outcome of art in the public could be the affect that it may have on the younger generations. If children are being raised in a community where they can see art on a daily basis then I believe it will have a positive effect on their lives by allowing them to learn how to appreciate art and what it has to offer. Art being in the public is also a way to grant people, who do not have enough money to enjoy the luxury of going to a gallery, the pleasure of seeing something aesthetically appealing on a regular basis. It also makes a town more interesting to visit; no one wants to visit a town with not much excitement. I once went to an art festival in Baltimore, Maryland, where they had green marbles ground up and put into the black top roads. This sight alone made my heart race and made this town more exciting. For towns that may have tourism it could be a way to attract to coming there or maybe even staying. Art can also be a controversial at the same time. There are many people who express their idea of art in a way that, in my opinion, should not be seen by the public. For example, many people consider paintings of naked women to be art, as do I, but I do not think it is appropriate for a painting of that nature to become a piece of public art. Another example is people who use profanity in their art. Swearing is not appropriate for a child to see painted on the side of their neighborhood buildings. The thing ... • 5. Origins Of Sexual Orientation One of many debatable topics nationwide today are the origins of sexual orientation. According to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, a leading sexual and reproductive health care advocate and provider, sexual orientation is the gender(s) someone is sexually and/or romantically attracted to (What is Sexual Orientation?). Society classifies people who only seek the opposite sex as heterosexuals and those who adore the same sex, as homosexuals. But what comes to your mind when you think of the reason for their preference(s)? Do you think that people are influenced by society alone or can biological factors be accounted for and proved? Many people all over the world are intolerable of the idea that men and women do not choose their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also includes adopted brothers into the study to prove that although influences play a supporting role, they do not determine one s sexual orientation. For instance, Glaude includes Twenty percent of brothers of male homosexuals were also homosexual, compared with only 4% of brothers of heterosexuals... Bailey and Pillard found that 52% (29/56) of the identical twins of gay males were also gay... In contrast, only 22% (12/54) of DZ twins of gay males were gay, and a mere 11% of 57 adoptive brothers of gay men were also gay (150). This previous study contributes to Gladue s hypothesis that homosexuality has a genetic (biological) connection to sexual orientation since the I nfluence alone, previously studied in heterosexual brothers, did not prove to be higher in percentage compared to those who were classified as fraternal or identical twins. • 6. Factors Contributing to the Wound Healing Process Essay Wound healing is a very important aspect of the postoperative process. Depending on many different factors pertaining to a postoperative wound; different steps can be taken to decrease a patient s chance to develop an infection. The one goal a surgical team wants to achieve is to leave a less noticeable scar and no infection in a wound. There are different challenges and situations a Surgical Technologist and the surgical will have to work around. The wound healingprocess all depends on the type of wound and classification, complications that may arise, postoperative infections, and the role of the Surgical Technologist within the wound healingprocess. There are four classes of surgical wound types based on the wound s level of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 143 157). Wound healing can have wide variety of complications. The complication of wound dehiscence/wound separation occurs because of excessive stress on wounds that have not yet healed. An example is coughing or vomiting without the use of abdominal splinting over an incision. Wound evisceration is the most serious complication of wound dehiscence. The wound completely separates, exposing underlying viscera. This most often occurs with abdominal incisions. ( Wound healing , 2005, p. 143 157). Hemorrhaging is also a big concern during postop because it can happen right after surgery and can lead to hypovolemic shock. Those are a couple of example of what could go wrong postoperatively. The risk of infection is always present with the occurrence of a surgical wound. Since our bodies are covered with natural flora, opportunistic pathogen infection is always a concern. Infection can greatly affect the recovery time for a patient. A surgical will not heal affectively when infection is present. Surgical Technologist must be aware of the implications bestowed on them by being a part of a surgical team. We must understand the importance of aseptic technique and surgical conscience. You have to be knowledgeable of the surgery you are preforming, the procedures of that surgery, and the complication that may arise. Wound healing plays an important part in how the postoperative ... • 7. The Seal Wolf Sparknotes The crew of the seal hunting ship the Ghost stood in disbelief as they gazed upon their recently departed first mate. Then a most unusual thing occurred. The captain began yelling at the dead man like a raging storm. Oaths rolled from his lips in a continuous stream. And they were not nice and thoughtful words or mere expressions of indecency. Each word was a blasphemy, and there were many words. It is this lack of remorse for others that defines Wolf Larsen, the antagonist in The Seal Wolf by Jack London. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; From the beginning of the book you are introduced to the contrast of characters at hand. The forecastle was like an angry hive of bees aroused by some intruder. No man less than a giant could have accomplished what Wolf Larsen did next. Step by step, by the might of his arms, the whole pack of men striving to drag him back and down, he drew his body up from the floor until he stood upright. The captain then proceeded to make his way up the ladder thus freeing him from this group of murderous tyrants. The whole crew of the Ghost hated Wolf with a great passion, but no one could do anything because his strength and fighting ability were unmatched. The second aspect of Wolf Larsen that makes him so great is his mind. Larsen was born and bred on the sea. Wolf never saw the inside of a schoolhouse. He taught himself everything he knew by reading the great works of American literature. Poetry and novels are the only thing that can take Wolf s mind off the sea. Through his learning he developed a quot;live for yourself only quot; theory on life. You could use such words as egocentric or arrogant to describe Wolf s trust no one attitude. But it s easy to see that he got that complete self reliance from his childhood. Wolf didn t have any parents that ever took care of him. As soon as he was of a decent age (around 10) he was on the boats as a cabin boy making his living. He taught himself reading and writing. The only thing Wolf could be thankful for is the body he was given, everything else he got on his own. The opposite of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Effects of Divorce on Children Divorce: Effects on Children Divorce has become an unquestionable remedy for the miserably married. Currently, the United States has the highest divorce rate in the world. Every year in the US approximately one million children experience divorce which, is about one in every three children (Amato 21). The effects of divorce can be tremendously painful for both children and adults. Children of divorce are more likely to suffer from behavioral, social, academic, and psychological problems than children raised in two parent families. The actual separation of the family will be the initial crisis that a child must deal with but many issues such as economic hardship, moving, and other major issues may follow. Sarah McLanahan, a leading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The long term effects of divorce tend to be more adverse than the short term effects. There are several causes for the long term effects but, children are more likely to develop them if they are exposed to all or some of the following scenarios; continuous parental fighting, the loss of contact with a parent following the divorce, little or no discipline, and being forced to takes sides against one parent or the other. Many studies show that children of divorce experience a heightened level of marital conflict. Another long term problem that may effect children of divorce are the loyalty and trust issues that often follow them into their own relationships. Even as adults, men tend to have a hard time dealing with the effects of divorce, they often tend to be less involved with their own children much like the non custodial parent was with them. • 16. The Structure Of The Skeletal Muscle Essay In mammals, there are an abundant amount of varying systems and components that all work together in order for the body to function properly and sustain life; one of those components that have a great portion of responsibility is the skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is responsible for a great portion of movements of the body, such as transportation, obtaining food, and fight or flight responses. Muscles are composed myofibrils, which when grouped together forms musclefibers and when those are grouped together they form muscles fascicles; multiple muscle fascicles are formed together to form skeletal muscles. All skeletal muscles are motor neuron dependent and composed of muscle fibers that are innervated by a motor axon and together form what is known as the motor unit. The muscle fibers all work together to form a muscle contraction, which is initiated by a neuronal action potential. The action potential can be activated one of two ways, it can be either voluntary by the person or it can be in voluntary, which would include electrical stimulation to the peripheral nerve. After the action potential is initiated, a neurotransmitter is released in the neuromuscular junction, which results in the depolarization of the muscle or a contraction (Schiaffino, Blaauw, Dyar, 2016). There are several different ways to measure the overall activity of skeletal muscles; one way deals with the electrical activity. During a contraction of skeletal muscles a significant amount of ... The events of WW1 had left many young women disillusioned and led them to question traditional morality and values which resulted in the rebellious behavior of the Flappers (Henderson). The increase in leisure time provided people the ability to dance, and listen to the up and coming jazz. The Flappers of the 1920 s represented Modernism and typified the clash of values and the changing status of women of the new era. Most women in the 1920s, not just the young Flappers, abandoned traditional, restrictive women s clothes, such as long dresses and tight corsets, to free themselves of the shackles of the Victorian era. The free spirited Flappers cut their hair, listened to jazz and scandalized the older generation (Bode 134). The independent and unconventional attitudes of the Flappers challenged the traditional ideas by wearing short skirts, bobbed hairstyles, make up and cosmetics. • 26. Theme Of Violence In A Clockwork Orange And Bonnie And Clyde Paramount themes of violence and extensive uses of graphic imagery are imperative motifs in the classic films, A Clockwork Orange and Bonnie and Clyde. Comparably, these two films use the element of violence to add insight to characters, environment, and further evoke emotions from audiences alike. Directors Stanley Kubrick and Arthur Penn began to push the boundaries of what is deemed acceptable in the filmindustry by introducing unprecedented levels of graphic content and directional methods of displaying such. On one hand, A Clockwork Orangewas released to American audiences under an X rating due to its brash depictions of violence, rape, sex, and crude language (Thrawn, Clockwork Orange the X Rating ). Regardless, Kubrick chose to include the entirety of what was described in the novella due to its integral part in shaping the dystopian environment and main character Alex McDowell. Narrations of our protagonist s innermost thoughts accompanied by the true colors of his actions aides in building a complete understanding of societal and personal morals. Bonnie and Clydesimilarly uses the harsh reality of violence as a tool to help set the overall tone of the film. The story of famous outlaws, Bonnie and Clyde, is glorified as well as equally condemned through graphic and bloody shootouts where they can be seen ruthlessly taking the lives of innocent people. The choice to amplify the intensity of violence in this movie is cohesive in laying the framework for character values within the two and creates a much more dramatic depiction of the infamous crimes that took place in the 30 s. Throughout both of these films, audiences are given the raw imagery necessary to create accurate and theatrical depictions of our characters actions that define their personalities and surroundings. During the 1960 s, as cultural values changed, revisions were made regarding the film rating system previously established by the Motion Picture Association of America. This change opened up the door to take more artistic freedom when producing their movies (Dirks, Film History of the 1960s ). • 28. What Influence Did John Calvin Have On Church History WHAT INFLUENCE DID JOHN CALVIN HAVE ON CHURCH HISTORY John Calvin was born at Noyon, France, on 10 July 1509, the son of a notary. He went to the University of Paris in 1523 (it was not unusual to attend university at so young an age), where he learned Latin from the humanist Mathurin Cordier. He developed a strong love of languages and earned his Master of Arts in 1528 in theology. Then, in 1532, Calvin experienced a spiritual conversion. It was typical of Calvin that he gives us virtually no details of this crucial moment in his life. In contrast with Luther, who is extensively autobiographical, Calvin wrote merely that he had experienced a sudden conversion, and we must be satisfied with that ( The Reformation: Calvin. The Reformation: Calvin. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Sept. 2015.). John Calvinis not at the last place level on an equivalence with Martin Luther as the inventor of the Reformation. Actually, Luther s followers produced a formal church; however, Calvin s followers created several churches; to name a few the French Huguenots, the English Puritans, the Scottish Presbyterians, and the Dutch Reformed Church. In fact, Calvin had an outstanding way to the German lands, and Luther had a large influence in Western Europe, however, you will not stray incorrectly by going to see Calvin s influence in the churches west of the Rhine River, and Luther s hand in the churches east of the Rhine. Likely the best known aspect of Calvinist theology regards predestination, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Each one of these achieve their leadership roles in different ways and are held to different standards. Some of these kings include King Frodi, King Hegi, and of course King Hrolf Kraki. King Frodi is one of the first kings mentioned in The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki and portrayed as the jealous, cold hearted brother of Halfdan. King Frodi and King Halfdan both achieved their leadership due to being sons of a previous king. We are told the King Frodi envied his brother because he ruled Denmark, so much so that he gathered a group of men and burned and destroyed everything (Pg. 1) During this action, King Frodi seized and killed... This shows how although kings during that time were seen to be ideal warriors, they were also flawed. Like King Frodi, King Helgi lacked some morals and eventually suffers the consequences of his actions when his daughter Yrsa who later found out that he was her father and he had raped her mother, had him attacked. Then there is King Hrolf Kraki who shows us an example of what was a truly great king. King Hrolf has most of the honorable traits of that time that allowed him to obtain his leader ship along with his fame. Hrolf was for the most part successful in his battles due to being able to gather up many noble warriors who were called King Hrolf s Champions He treated these mean with a certain brotherhood that isn t really shown by the other kings in the Saga. This appears to be an important trait for him to have during this time and it works in his favor. As more men heard about how he honored his champions, they were attracted towards him which allowed him to build a decent sized army of warriors. An example of this happening is when Svipdag told his king that he was leaving because he wanted to look for a king who will honour (Pg. 30) him and his brothers more. Although King Hrolf Kraki had many honorable traits he too was flawed like most people. One mistake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout these books, tales of woe, danger, adventure, and love are told in a way that transports readers into the rich and exciting world that Ovid has created. In book three, the tale of Narcissus and Echo is told using beautiful diction and vivid imagery. The story is ultimately about a gorgeous man, named Narcissus, who toys with the affections of others, which leaves them completely despondent; and the sorrowful way that his fate takes revenge upon him. In the end, the tale of Narcissus and Echo demonstrates to its readers that lovedoes not always lead to happiness, but instead has a disastrous effect upon one s soul. Our study determined how detrimental pet activity is on the environment, more specifically the water systems at Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, and McKinney Falls. My hypothesis was the if there is human and pet activity near water ways, there will be an increase in algae boom and chlorophyll a concentration because bacteria body material, and feces of the dog affects the water s health. Our results did not agree with our hypothesis because Chlorophyll a concentration was higher at McKinney Falls, where there was the most pet activity, and lower at Bulls Creek, even though pets were allowed also. Additionally, the Wild Basin, where there were no pets allowed, had samples with an unexpectedly high chlorophyll a concentration compared to the samples from Bulls Creek. Other factors including canopy cover, and urban runoff could have also altered water quality. I infer that the water quality was affected more by other factors. The two sites with about the same amount of human activity were McKinney Falls State Park and Bulls Creek. On the other hand, Wild Basin swimming is not allowed. Our results showed that the order from greatest to least amount of nitrate and phosphorous concentration was Bulls Creek, McKinney Falls, and Wild Basin at the lowest. Folkwaysare norms that aren t strictly enforced while mores are strictly enforced for essential thought to care values or the well being of a group (Hansen, 2014). Along with a norm and the two types, there may also be reactions to it. These reactions may be positive or negative and termed as sanctions. Sanctions are either expressions of an approval given to people for upholding norms or expression of disapproval for violating them (Hansen, 2014). Christie Archaeological dating methods can be divided in two categories, relative and absolute dating. Relative dating in archaeology presumes the age of an artefact in relation and by comparison, to other objects found around it. Limits for relative dating are that it cannot provide an accurate year or a specific date of use, it is a more subjective approach. A more precise and accurate archaeology dating system is known as absolute dating and can in most circumstances provide a calendar year to an object . Absolute dating is in my opinion the way to go because it allows for a more precise and more scientific answers. Within the absolute dating techniques, Carbon 14 seems to be the golden standard as Renfrew and Bahn state: Radiocarbon is the single most useful method of dating for the archaeologist, even though it has some limitations. Important to note is that, the relatively short half life of carbon 14, 5,730 years, makes the reliability only up to about 75,000 years. As the case study of the royal tomb of Solokha revealed, it is not a perfect method, but currently, it is as close as it gets. • 47. The Material Selection For Disc 3.1 Material Selection for Disc A turbine disc rotates at high angular velocity and operates at higher temperature. High angular velocity induces higher centrifugal stress and high temperature gradient induces higher thermal stress. This operating condition demands that material used for the turbine disc should have high strength even at elevated temperature. Specifically, the tensile yield strength should be high enough to withstand centrifugal stress developed by disc and axial loading by blades and the fatigue strength should be high enough to withstand high stress and low cycle fatigue. In addition to LCF concern, materials for modern turbine disc were driven by commercial constraints like lower component cost, life cycle and maintenance cost. Materials like wasploy, Cr Mo Vo alloys, A 286 alloys were used earlier but they have low yield and fatigue strength at higher temperature. Inorder to compensate these demands Ni based super alloys Udimet 720 and Inconel 718 are used. These alloys offer efficient compromise between performance and economics. The key properties of Ni based super alloys are: 1. They have high stiffness and tensile yield strength at higher temperature to ensure accurate blade location and resistance to over speed burst failure. 2. The organization also grew rapidly, assuming functions in rural areas that had previously been handled by the Planning and Budget Organization (which replaced the Plan Organization in... Because Arab states, including Iraq, had in the past laid claim to Khuzestan as part of the Arab homeland, the government was bound to regard an indigenous movement among the Arabic speaking population with suspicion. The government also suspected that scattered instances of sabotage in the oil fields were occurring with Iraqi connivance. In May 1979, government forces responded to these disturbances by firing on Arab demonstrators in Khorramshahr. Several demonstrators were killed; others were shot on orders of the local revolutionary court. The government subsequently quietly transferred the religious leader of the Khuzestan Arabs, Ayatollah Mohammad Taher Shubayr al Khaqani, to Qom, where he was kept under house arrest. These measures ended further protests. The Kurdish uprising proved more deep rooted, serious, and durable. The Kurdish leaders were disappointed that the Revolution had not brought them the local autonomy they had long desired. Scattered fighting began in March 1979 between government and Kurdish forces and continued after a brief cease fire; attempts at negotiation proved abortive. One faction, led by Ahmad Muftizadeh, the Friday prayer leader in Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdish culture, was ready to accept the limited concessions offered by the government. The Kurdish Democratic Party, a more radical group issued demands that the authorities in Tehran did not feel they could accept. These included the enlargement of the ... • 50. Persuasive Essay On The Standard Of Beauty When thirteen year old Alyssa looks into the mirror, she runs through a list of everything she hates about her body, I wish my stomach was flatter, my chest was bigger, my thighs were skinnier, my arms were more toned, and my waist was smaller. She looks into the mirror, comparing her body to the bodies of her friends, celebrities and the images she sees in magazines. Alyssa does not look like all those girls and this makes her feel gross, insecure and out of place. Beauty standards are so high they create negative body images and women who hate the way they look. Women look in the mirror and they pick themselves apart, and point out their personal flaws, and compare themselves to others. Women have a major difficulty with accepting the... The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, unlike the American s do not gather statistics, but Canadian surgeons say they are seeing the same increase in plastic surgery among the millennial youth (Thomas, 2015). The statistics on teenagers and plastic surgery are shocking, but this is not surprising because teens are vulnerable to having issues with poor body image, and this results in feeling like there is no other option other than plastic surgery. They want to look perfect and fit in with society. Teens should not have to turn to operations to physically change their bodies just to fit in with today s beauty standards. High standards of beauty are causing girls to lose out on opportunities because they feel they will be judged for the way they look and this leads to eating disorders, unhealthy diets and overall poor health. In a world surrounded by celebrities and fashion models who look impossibly thin, a message is sent to teens that they must look this way to be socially accepted. This message can lead to unhealthy eating habits and self esteem issues. Approximately 75 percent of girls as young as nine years old have dieted two to five times in a given year and at any given time, 5 to 10 million women and girls globally have eating disorders that harm their health (Flynt, 2009). Teens all over the world, especially in Western society, are being diagnosed with eating disorder due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Portrayal Of Women In Persepolis Women in our society have been treated as a sideline, not included, and muted across our generations. In the graphic novel Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi shows religion and authority to portray that women in the text are marginalized, excluded, and silenced. This graphic novel takes place in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, which influenced a lot of how women were treated. The women in Persepolis are marginalized, excluded, and silenced by restricted communication, forbidden to wear what they want, and not always having control of their actions. Persepolis demonstrates women being marginalized, excluded, and silenced through restricted communication. In the chapter The Key , the girls are being marginalized and silenced by Marji explaining a mandatory self flagellationritual they perform twice a day as mourning the dead of the war, Marji says, ...And we had to beat our chests in a voice over, as a way of telling us she had no choice in the ritual or to speak during it(95). The image for the self flagellation additionally portrays this thought by everyone executing the same beating, dressed the same, and their emanata expresses a straight face looking forward in silence. Satrapi also goes on saying and showing for initiation for the beginning of school, all the girls are illustrated as confused with question marks above them as indication, as the icon/teacher says, Let s go children on the heart(96) Satrapi only speaks in voiceovers as a way of indicating she, and no ... • 52. Fifteen By William Stafford Analysis Fifteen, by William Stafford is a free verse poem about age. In the poem he talks about being a fifteen year old boy in which he refers to himself as South on the ridge on Seventeenth (Stafford Line 1). Where he means that he is not yet seventeen, but he is almost there. He was taking a walk one day during the summer when he came across a motorcycle with the engine still running. He picks up the motorcycle and observed it with much awe. He was very fond of the motorcycle, he admired it very much. He imagined taking off on the motorcycle, then in the grass next to him, he saw the owner of the motorcycle. But instead of taking off on the motorcycle he helped the owner up, then realizing that he was in a motorcycle crash. The owner greeted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stafford s idea was very vivid. It started out in the first line of the poem. South of the bridge of Seventeenth (Stafford Line 1), which I stated previously. He described where he was on the roads, while also making a play on words by describing his age stance. He is a fifteen year old boy, as many can tell by the name of the poem. He farther asserted his idea with this initial opening line, stating that he is under seventeen years old, but he is close to crossing the bridge to being seventeen. Following after, more into the poem he talks about discovering a motorcycle on the side of the road with the engine still running. He grabs the motorcycle and grasps the handles as if he is about to take off. I admired all that pulsing gleam, the shiny flanks, the demure headlights fringed where it lay (Stafford Line 6 8). He became particularly attracted to the motorcycle, as if it were an actual human, like a friend. The overall theme clarify s the aging process, he is fifteen, but closer to seventeen. Every event in the poem shows his still younger, naive side. The naive feelings comply to the fact that he is only fifteen. The line I was fifteen was repeated several times to push the theme into the readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Eukaryotic Cell Functions All eukaryotic cells have microtubules, which are hollow rods assembled from a globular protein called tubulin. Microtubules grow in length by adding tubulin dimers. Those dimers can also be disassembled, which would allow the tubulin to build microtubules elsewhere in the cell. The two opposite ends of of a microtubule are actually pretty unique. One end can can accumulate or release tubulin dimers at a much higher rate which allows it to grow or shrink during cellular activities (Campbell, pg.114). The microtubules and the motor proteins of a cell are closely related, which is why I must introduce some of there functions. Cell motility generally requires interaction if the cytoskeletonwith motor proteins. They work together with plasma... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now we are presented with microtubules again and this time I shall describe to you why this is part of the correct choice. As microtubules structure actually serves as tracks, which organelles that are equipped with motor proteins can use to move. That seems like one of the two functions we were looking for that contribute to movement within a cell. Microtubules are often handled with the task of guiding vesicles from the ER to the Golgi apparatus (Campbell, pg. 114). The next part of choice B is motor proteins, which are often compared to as feet or how the cell walks to their destination. They use the tracks provided by the cytoskeleton. The motor protein kind work with the cytoskeleton and the plasma membrane molecules, which allow whole cells to move along fibers on the exterior portion of the cell (Campbell, pg.113). Choice B is correct. Choice C. I don t want to repeat myself and sound repetitive so I tried to give a detailed response to choice A as to why actin filaments is incorrect. Actin filaments is more of a structural component of the cell aiding it in bearing tension (Campbell, pg. 114) Motor proteins I tried to give a detailed description in choice B as to why it is correct. Motor proteins work with various parts of the cell to allow whole portions of a cell to move along fibers outside the cell (Campbell, pg.113). Choice C is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
