Options for Session #7
Whole group, with stations
Small group meeting
Individual meeting
© Relay Graduate School of Education. All rights reserved. 3
Suggestions for Any Option
• Ensure that graduate students have first:
- completed the online sessions for ECE SGA-101
AND
- completed the SGA Measurement Principles Quiz
• Share individual SGA quiz scores individually
• Require graduate students to upload a full DRAFT
Pathway in advance, including tracker files
• Have an exit slip and clearly-defined outcome
• (Optional) Allow PIA for anybody producing a
proficient DRAFT Pathway well in advance

What We’ve Learned about Group Meetings
Strengths:
• Provides opportunity
for peer-to-peer
Pathway review
(which is used in the
Y2 SGA sequence)
• Allows for
differentiation w/ grad
students’ progress
and Pathway type
Challenges:
• Reviewing Pathway
files alone is NOT
enough, need to also
review tracker
• Potentially difficult to
review all Pathways at
the right level of detail
and depth
• Not always ideal for
grad students in the
non-core teaching
placements
© Relay Graduate School of Education. All rights reserved. 5
Suggestions For How To Structure Group Meetings
Grad students should:
• Receive differentiated support during the session, for example
- Station for those didn’t earn a proficient score on the SGA quiz
- Station for those who need to complete the assessment template
- Station for those those building out their trackers
• Know when they are “finished” with each work product
- Consider the use of differentiated checklists or exit tickets to guide
graduate students toward completing a given “station” or work product
• (note: to set grad students up for success, prior to the session, you should
email out instructions for how to prepare, what to expect, and how time will
be allocated)

What We’ve Learned about One-on-One Meetings
Strengths:
• Opportunity to ask
direct questions of
graduate student
• Allows for greater
tailorization of the exit
slip and follow-up
instructions
• Ideal for grad students
in the non-core
teaching placements
Challenges:
• Coordination needs to
be efficient, or it
becomes a tremendous
email lift to schedule
• Ongoing support
mechanisms need to
be well-defined, or it
becomes a further
email lift to continue
coaching GS after their
one-on-one meeting
© Relay Graduate School of Education. All rights reserved. 7
Suggestions For How To Structure 1-on-1 Meetings
Grad students should:
• Share their quiz scores, reflect on their performance on this
assessment, and ask any outstanding questions from the quiz
• Prepare a Pathway pitch where they have to narrate and
defend their their defensible plan
• Share any outstanding questions they have about their own
Pathway
• Walk through how they populated their tracker
• (note: to set grad students up for success, prior to the meeting,
you should email out instructions for how to prepare, what to
expect, and how time will be allocated)

  • 6. © Relay Graduate School of Education.
