The GRE is an exam used for admissions to masters and doctoral programs. It consists of 6 sections - analytical writing, verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and an experimental section - which take around 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete. Scores range from 130-170 for the verbal and quantitative sections and 0-6 for analytical writing. Exam results are valid for 5 years. The exam can only be retaken once every 21 days.
