This study investigates the optical properties of mercuric iodate crystals grown using a gel diffusion technique, establishing optimal growth conditions through variation of several parameters. Spherical crystals of sizes ranging from 2 to 6 mm were produced, and their optical band gap energy was found to be 1.56 eV using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The findings affirm the feasibility of the gel growth technique for producing these crystals and highlight the importance of various growth parameters on crystal characteristics.
