Pure and L-alanine an aminoacid mixed bisthiourea cadmium bromide chloride single crystals were grown by slow evaporation technique. A drastic change in morphology was inferred with the concentration of L-alanine. Mixed crystals have better optical transparency as well as NLO efficiency than the pure BTCBC which were imperative for nonlinear applications. Also L-alanine mixing increases the hardness. The AC conductivity of the grown crystals increases with increasing concentration of L-alanine.

Potassium Pentaborate nonlinear optical (NLO) material was synthesized by the solution growth method. The grown crystals were subjected to structural, optical and mechanical property studies. Crystal with excellent transparency were grown with maximum size of 9mm×8mm×5mm and the grown crystals were characterized by single crystal Single crystal XRD, FT-IR, TGA-DTA&DSC, and UV–vis-NIR studies. The crystal belongs to orthorhombic with a space group of mm2 having unit-cell dimensions a = 11.068Åb= 11.175Å c = 9.058Åand α = 90°; β = 90°; and γ =90°; Z=4, at 298(2) K. The second-order nonlinear optical property of the polycrystalline sample has been confirmed by Kurtz-Perry powder SHG analysis. Third order nonlinear optical properties were also studied by Z-scan techniques. Nonlinear absorption and nonlinear refractive index were found out and the third order bulk susceptibility of compound was also calculated.

utilizing solid state Laser sources. Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate one of the Non Linear Optical material having
superior non linear optical properties has been exploited for variety of application. In the present work, KHP
single crystals were grown by slow evaporation technique with Barium metal ion as a dopant. The grown
crystals were subjected to powder XRD analysis and the result shows that the Ba2+ ions does not alter the crystal
structure, but it enter into the crystal lattice of pure KHP. The optical transparency of the grown crystal was
studied by UV-Visible spectroscopy, the molecular structure was confirmed by FTIR analysis and its thermal
stability by TG/DTA analysis. The improved SHG efficiency of barium doped Potassium Hydrogen Phthalate
crystal could enhance the nonlinearity behaviour. In addition to this, the electrical parameter such as dielectric
constant was studied in detail.

Growth, characterization, and antibacterial studies of L-Lysine single crysta...IOSRJAP
Single crystals of L-lysine added Potassium Bromide were grown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. The crystalline nature of the grown crystal wasconfirmed using powder X-ray diffraction technique. Single crystal X-ray diffraction patterns were recorded for the structural conformation and it was found to be cubic. The UV –VIS- NIR Spectrum of the grown crystals shows less optical absorption and good transmittance in the entire visible region enabling its use in optical applications. Vickers micro hardness test was carried out to analyze the mechanical property of the grown L- lysine potassium Bromide single crystal. Thermo gravimetric analysis proved that the crystal is stable up to 600ºC. The frequency and temperature dependence of dielectric constant (εr), dielectric loss (tan δ) were also measured. The grown crystal was evaluated for its biological efficacy and found to exhibit anti bacterial activities against some select bacterial strains.

The present work deals with the formation, morphology and photophysical activity of the 2-aminocyclopent-1-ene-1-carbodithioic acid (ACA) Capped Silver nanoparticles via chemical reduction method. The method utilizes a simple chemical reaction of silver idodide and sodium borohydride. The advantages of this method are ease of preparation, convenience in use and especially, that the obtained silver nano particles are uniform in their shapes and sizes. This is important for fluorescence & bio-evolution measurements. Furthermore, UV-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy is employed to monitor the formation process of the nano particles and to determine the optimum conditions for the preparation of stable and highly fluorescence-active silver colloids. Specifically, we observed changes in the shapes of the silver nano particles during the formation. This may be helpful in understanding the growth of the nano particles and creates a new dimension in controlling the shapes of the nano particles.SEM, TEM and XRD studies are carried out. The suitability of ACA capped Ag-NPs as Biomarkers is also Tested by Fluorescence study.

Effect of glycine as an impurity on the properties of Epsomite single crystalsIOSR Journals
Epsomite (MgSO4.7H2O) is a hydrogen bonded crystal having a wide range of applications in various fields. Pure and glycine added Epsomite (a total of six) single crystals have been grown and characterized in order to investigate the effect of glycine as an impurity on the properties of Epsomite crystals.The densities and lattice parameters observed indicate that the impurity molecules have entered into the crystal matrix. The grown crystals exhibit good optical transparency in the wavelength range 210-1100 nm. Second harmonic generation measurements indicate that they are nonlinear optically active. Results obtained through microhardness measurements follow the normal indentation size effect. Electrical (AC and DC) measurements indicate that all the six crystals grown in the present study exhibit a normal dielectric behavior and the electrical conduction is understood to be due to the protonic movement. Moreover, glycine addition is found to reduce εr value significantly indicating the possibility of Epsomite crystal becoming a low -εr value dielectric material.

Aloe Vera is a succulent plant and is found in different arid areas. Due to its healing effect and soothing
properties it is being used in herbal medicines for years and its importance has grown due to use in cosmetic
products. It contains more than thirty active ingredients, which are utilized in cosmetic and pharmaceutical
industry. It also contains 98% water. To remove water from those active ingredient Reverse osmosis is used in
order not to thermally damage the active ingredients present in the juice. A reverse osmosis is a separation
technique which utilizes difference in pressure to segregate water from plant without damaging the active
ingredients present in the plant. This research is dedicated to evaluate the parameter for separation of water from
aloe Vera so that aloe Vera can be obtained in a form which can be utilized for different purposes such as
cosmetics and medicine. Osmosis technique is preferred over other conventional technique for the separation
purpose because it is not operated at high temperature, which will not damage the aloe Vera juice quality. Next
step in this research is the preserving, drying and analysis of this juice so that this product can be utilized in

The effect is corresponding to our previous medical-biological studies, such as microcirculation enhancement. Herein, a review is to conclude our previous study on therapeutic effect of PLB or BIOCERAMIC resonance. They are include: glucose level control on diabetics by animal model; improved motor activity on middle cerebral arterial occlusion(MCAO) of rats by PLB treatment; normalizing ability to the mean current level measurement of acupuncture points on skin by PLB irradiation; enhanced propagated sensation along meridians‟ (PSM) phenomenon with clinical benefits by PLB effect on different meridian channels; combine effects of PLB and BIOCERAMIC resonance on many disorders such as insomnia, migraine(a chronic sympathetic nervous system disorder) and other autonomic nervous system disorder, associate clinical improvements. Mechanical Behavior of Areca Fiber and Maize Powder Hybrid CompositesIJERA Editor
Natural fibers are gaining the interest in packaging, domestic, low cost housing and other general applications. In this work the mechanical properties of randomly distributed areca fiber and maize powder reinforced phenol formaldehyde were studied. From the results Youngs modulus is maximum found in 300 ml of resin. The maximum tensile strength is for 300B composite plate. The maximum Young’s modulus for 300B is 135MPa, for bending strength of various composite plates, the composite plate with 400 ml PF resin shows the maximum bending load compared to other composite plates. The composite plate of 400C shows the maximum bending load compared to other composite plates. The maximum bending load for 400C composite plate is 0.854 kN. The adhesive tensile strength increases with decrease in Areca fiber and increase in maize powder up to 700 gms of Areca and 300 gms of maize powder. Later the adhesive tensile strength decreases with decrease in Areca fiber and increase in maize powder. Maximum adhesive tensile stress is 0.137 MPa for 400B composite plate compared to remaining composite plates.

Intensify Denoisy Image Using Adaptive Multiscale Product ThresholdingIJERA Editor
This Paper presents a wavelet-based multiscale products thresholding scheme for noise suppression of magnetic resonance images. This paper proposed a method based on image de-noising and edge enhancement of noisy multidimensional imaging data sets. Medical images are generally suffered from signal dependent noises i.e. speckle noise and broken edges. Most of the noises signals appear from machine and environment generally not contribute to the tissue differentiation. But, the noise generated due to above mentioned reason causes a grainy appearance on the image, hence image enhancement is required. For the intent of image denoising, Adaptive Multiscale Product Thresholding based on 2-D wavelet transform is used. In this method, contiguous wavelet sub bands are multiplied to improve edge structure while reducing noise. In multiscale products, boundaries can be successfully distinguished from noise. Adaptive threshold is designed and forced on multiscale products as an alternative of wavelet coefficients or recognize important features. For the edge enhancement. Canny Edge Detection Algorithm is used with scale multiplication technique. Simulation results shows that the planned technique better suppress the Poisson noise among several noises i.e. salt & pepper, speckle noise and random noise. The Performance of Image Intesification can be estimate by means of PSNR, MSE.

Utilizing the indoor test to measure the friction coefficient of ice and snow road, summarize the changing trends of friction coefficient which was compared with accident rates, and then establish the model of friction coefficient and accident rate. A model of the vehicle under snow environment was put forward. The study deeply analyzed the influence of snow and ice weather on the roadpavement;it can provide technical support for highway of seasonal frozen area dealing with ice and snow weather.

This paper attempts to review the slope stability problem and deals with the intricacies of the concept of reliability and fuzzy logic as applied to stability analysis of slope. It has been suggested that the FOSM algorithm provides a general agreement among the different slope stability solutions.

Regenerating codes provide fault tolerance by striping data across multiple servers, while using less repair traffic than traditional erasure codes during failure recovery. In previous research implemented practical Data Integrity Protection (DIP) scheme for regenerating-coding based cloud storage. Functional Minimum-Storage Regenerating (FMSR) codes and it construct FMSR-DIP codes, which allow clients to remotely verify the integrity of random subsets of long-term archival data under a multi server setting. The problem is to optimize bandwidth consumption when repairing multiple failures. The cooperative repair of multiple failures can help to further save bandwidth consumption when multiple failures are being repaired.

tOctahedral hexacyano rhenium K4[Re6S8(CN)6] cluster complexes were grafted onto photoactive Cu(OH)2cluster modified TiO2{Cu(OH)2/TiO2} support. The rhenium and copper cluster modified TiO2photocata-lyst combines the advantages of heterogeneous catalyst (facile recovery, recycling ability of the catalyst)with the reactivity, selectivity of the soluble molecular catalyst. The synthesized heterogeneous cata-lyst was found to be highly efficient photoredox catalyst for the reduction of CO2under visible lightirradiation. Methanol was found to be the major liquid product with the formation of hydrogen as a byproduct as determined with GC-FID and GC-TCD, respectively. The methanol yield after 24 h irradiationwas found to be 149 mol/0.1 g cat. for Re-cluster@Cu(OH)2/TiO2photocatalyst that is much higher than35 mol/0.1 g cat. for Cu(OH)2/TiO2and 75 mol/0.1 g cat. for equimolar rhenium cluster in the presenceof triethanolamine (TEOA) as a sacrificial donor. The quantum yields (MeOH) of Re-cluster@Cu(OH)2/TiO2and Cu(OH)2/TiO2were found to be 0.018 and 0.004 mol einstein−1, respectively. These values are muchhigher than those reported for other heterogeneous catalysts for six electron transfer reaction
Formation and Characterization of Mixed Crystals Based on Bis (Thiourea)Cadmi...IJERA Editor
Bis(thiourea)cadmium chloride(BTCC) and bis(thiourea)cadmium iodide (BTCI) are metal complexes of thiourea having better nonlinear optical properties than KH2PO4. An attempt has been made in the present study to form mixed crystals based on BTCC and BTCI (even though their crystal lattices mismatch) from aqueous solutions, the precursors mixed in proper proportions. A total of seven (including the end members) crystals were formed by the free evaporation method and characterized chemically, structurally, thermally, optically and electrically. The X-ray diffraction measurements indicate that (BTCC)X(BTCI)1-X crystals with x=1.0,0.8 and 0.6 are orthorhombic in structure with space group Pmn21 and that with x=0.5, 0.4, 0.2 and 0.0 are monoclinic in structure with space group P21/c. All the grown crystals are found to be thermally stable up to 215 °C and possessing wide optical transmission window (300-900 nm) which is suitable for NLO applications. The electrical measurements indicate that the grown crystals exhibit a normal dielectric behavior. The results obtained in the present study indicate that mixed crystals can be formed from the isomorphous precursors directly even though the end member’s crystals have lattice mismatching.

A new convenient and efficient route for the synthesis of two very important hydroxo-bridged stepped-cubane copper complexes viz: [Cu4(bpy)4Cl2(OH)4]Cl2.6H2O (1) and [Cu4(phen)4Cl2(OH)4]Cl2.6H2O (2) have been obtained. This synthetic route from the mononuclear CubpyCl2 complex is easier, more reproducible and afforded the complex in a much higher yield than the other two previously reported procedures which were equally serendipitously discovered. The purity and formation of the complexes were confirmed with elemental (C,H,N) analysis and the details of the UV-Vis, Fourier transform infrared, electrospray ionization mass spectra of both complexes and the single crystal X-ray crystallography of 1 are presented and discussed. X-ray crystallography confirms the absolute structure of the complexes. The complexes were formed via the connection of four copper atoms to four hydroxide bridging ligands and four bipyridyl ligands with two chloride ligands. There are two coordinate environments around two pairs of copper atoms (CuN2ClO2 and CuN2O3) and each copper atom is pentacoordinate with square pyramidal geometry.

Heterostructured nanocomposite tin phthalocyanine@mesoporous ceria (SnPc@CeO2...Pawan Kumar
Heterostructured tin phthalocyanine supported to mesoporous ceria was synthesized and used a
photocatalyst for CO2 reduction under visible light. The photoreduction CO2 activities of the
heterostructures were investigated in the presence of triethylamine as sacrificial agent. The developed
photocatalyst exhibited high catalytic activity for photoreduction of CO2 and after 24 hours of visible
light irradiation 2342 mmol g1 cat of methanol (fMeOH ¼ 0.0223 or 2.23%) and 840 mmol g1 cat of CO
(fCO ¼ 0.0026 or 0.26%) were obtained as the major reaction products. The methanol formation rate
(RMeOH) and CO formation rate (RCO) was found to be 97.5 mmol h1 g1 cat and 35.0 mmol h1 g1 cat
respectively. While under the identical experimental conditions mesoporous ceria (meso-CeO2) gave
only 316 mmol g1 cat of methanol (fMeOH ¼ 0.003 or 0.30%) and 126 mmol g1 cat CO (fCO ¼ 0.0004
or 0.04%) with product formation rate RMeOH ¼ 13.2 mmol h1 g1 cat and RCO ¼ 5.3 mmol h1 g1 cat.
Furthermore, the recovered catalyst showed consistent catalytic activity for at least five runs without any
significant loss in product yields
Hydrothermal Assisted Microwave Pyrolysis of Water Hyacinth for Electrochemic...drboon
We develop ‘green’ approach to prepare conductive carbon material from water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) powder for use in electrochemical capacitor device. The features on morphology, crystallography and surface functionality were analyzed based on SEM, XRD and FTIR instrumentation, respectively. The electrical conductivities were measured using four-point probe. Electrochemical properties were studied using cyclic voltammetry. SEM analyses indicated the existence of nanoparticles in the carbon samples. XRD analysis showed that carbon sample had sharp peaks indicating crystallite carbon and sylvite. FTIR analysis showed that the carbon have common surface functionalities which also can be found in other conductive carbon samples. The electrical conductivities test showed that the carbon had 0.001–1.5 S cm-1 of conductivity. The shape of the cyclic voltammograms were typical for carbon electrode that use in electrochemical capacitor.

Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.

Mixed crystals have better optical transparency as well as NLO efficiency than the pure BTCBC which were imperative for nonlinear applications. Also L-alanine mixing increases the hardness. The AC conductivity of the grown crystals increases with increasing concentration of L-alanine.
I. INTRODCUTION
Nonlinear optical materials will be the key elements for future photonic technologies based on the fact that photons are capable of processing information with the speed of light. Researchers have been searching for new and efficient NLO materials since SHG was first observed in single crystals of quartz by Franken et al in 1961[1]. In the beginning, studies were concentrated on inorganic materials such as quartz, potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP), lithium niobate (LiNbO3) and semiconductors such as cadmium sulfide, selenium, and tellurium. Inorganic materials are much more matured in their application to second order NLO materials than organics. Most commercial materials are inorganic especially for high power use. However, organic materials are perceived as being structurally more diverse and therefore are believed to have more long term promise than inorganics.
Recent interest is concentrated on metal complexes of organic compounds owing to their large nonlinearity [2]. The - conjugated network, in organic system with large nonlinearity, has significant absorption in the visible region. Hence for second harmonic generation (SHG) in the blue-near- UV region, more transparent and less extensively delocalized organics like urea or its analogs have been considered [2]. Thiourea is one such organic system. It is nearly coplanar in structure and is a resonant hybrid of three resonance structures with each contributing roughly an equal amount. The - orbital electron delocalization in thiourea that arises from the mesomeric effect is responsible for their nonlinear optical response and the absorption in the near ultraviolet region. Growth of organometallic single crystals has been a subject of perennial concern in order to use these materials for device application. Crystals of the type M[TU]2X2 where M=Cd, Co, Hg, Pb, Ti and Zn, Cu, TU is thiourea and X is a halogen, has been found to exhibit good NLO properties [3-4]. The nonlinear optical properties of some of the complexes of thiourea, such as bis thiourea cadmium chloride (BTCC), bis thiourea zinc chloride (BTZC), tris thiourea zinc sulphate (ZTS), tris thiourea cadmium sulphate (CTS), potassium thiourea bromide (PTB) have gained significant attention in the last few years [3,5,6], because both organic and inorganic components in it contribute specifically to the process of second harmonic generation. The centrosymmetric thiourea molecule, when combine with inorganic salt yield noncentrosymmetric complexes, which has the nonlinear optical properties [7]. Hence, in several years, search is focused on new types NLO materials which combined the advantages of organic and inorganic material called semiorganic materials.
The amino acids are the famous organic materials. Play a vitol role in the field of nonlinear optical crystal growth. Many members of natural amino acids individually exhibiting the nonlinear optical properties because they have a donor NH2 and acceptor COOH group and the intermolecular charge transfer is also possible. Especially natural amino acids such as Arginine, alanine, lysine and γ glycine are evidently showing NLO property because of additional COOH group in first and NH2 group in second. Therefore mixing of amino acid with already known organic, inorganic or semi-organic NLO materials may improve their NLO and ferroelectric properties. The literature survey confirmed the studies on improved second harmonic generation, thermal, and opto-electric properties of crystals grown by mixing equimolar ratios of amino acids L- alanine, L-arginine with malic acid, oxalic acid and nitric acid and acetic acid [8-12]. nonlinearity comes from the distortion of the
tetrahedron, which is composed of three allyl
thiourea and one Cl or Br combining with the metal
atoms Cd2+ or Hg2+. The distorted tetrahedron
arrangement in the material increases the asymmetric
structure and hence contributes to the enhanced NLO
activity. Based on the above knowledge, in our
present study, an attempt has been made to grow
single crystals of L-alanine mixed Bis thiourea
cadmium bromide chloride [BTCBC] single crystals
in different molar ratios.
II. MATERIALS AND METHODS
2.1 Synthesis of BTCBC
Saturated solution of thiourea was made by
dissolving 4.0g of AR grade thiourea in 25ml of
double distilled water. 9.2 g AR grade cadmium
chloride and 5.0 g of AR of ammonium bromide
were dissolved in 40ml of hot water (45ºC). This
solution was added slowly in the saturated solution of
thiourea under continues stirring. This mixture
solution was stirred well to get a clear solution. The
solution was purified by repeated filtration. The
filtered solution was kept for free evaporation .After
3 days, tiny crystals of BTCBC was obtained
according to the following reaction:

Repeated recrystallization process was carried out in
order to eliminate impurities in the BTCBC crystal.
2.2 GROWTH OF L-ALANINE MIXED BTCBC
SINGLE CRYSTALS
L-alanine mixed BTCBC crystals (LABTCBC)
were grown by taking L-alanine and BTCBC in 3
different molar ratios viz., 0.3:0.7, 0.5:0.5 and
0.7:0.3. The supersaturated solution was prepared by
using the solubility curve given in Fig.1a. Good
quality single crystals were obtained after 20 days.
The photograph of the grown crystals was shown in
Fig. 1b.

2.3 Characterizations made
The single crystal X-ray diffraction studies of the
grown crystals were carried out using Bruker Nonius
APEX II - V2.D2 single crystal X-ray diffractometer
with MoKα (λ = 0.717 Å) radiation. The optical
transmittance spectrum was recorded in the range of
190-1200 nm, using Cary 500 scan UV-Vis-NIR
spectrometer. The NLO test of BTCBC and
LABTCBC crystals were evaluated by the Kurtz and
Perry powder technique [14] using a Q-switched,
mode locked Nd : YAG laser emitting 1.06μm, 8 ns
laser pulses with spot radius of 1 mm.
Microhardness studies have been carried out using a
MMT-X7B MATSUZAWA CO., Ltd. The applied
load was varied from 5 to 100 g with a constant
indentation time of 15 seconds in each case. The
hardness profile was studied by plotting the variation
of hardness number (HV) with applied load (P). The
temperature dependent capacitance (C) and dielectric
loss factor (tan δ) measurements were carried out on
the prepared crystals an accuracy of ± 1 % with
Agilent 4284 A LCR Meter in the temperature range
of 40 – 150 °C at 1kHz frequency. The observations
were made while cooling the sample by using the
conventional two-probe technique [15]. Temperature
was controlled to an accuracy level of ± 1 ºC. The air
capacitance (Cair) in between the two electrodes was
also measured.
III. RESULTS OBTAINED
3.1 Single crystal XRD Analysis
The single crystal XRD data of the pure and L-alanine
mixed BTCBC crystals are presented in Table
1. With increasing concentration of L-alanine, the
crystal system changed from orthorhombic to
tetragonal structure which confirms the formation of
mixed crystals. Also the result resembles the XRD
studies of L-alanine mixed BTCB crystals [16].

3.2 Powder XRD Analysis
The PXRD patterns obtained in the present study
are shown in Fig. 2. The lattice parameters have been
calculated by unit cell software package and given in
Table 2. For the maximum concentration of L-alanine,
the crystal system of the mixed crystal
changes orthorhombic to tetragonal, this favours the
formation of mixed crystals. Also the results of
PXRD agreed well with that of single crystal XRD
data.

3.3 Optical absorption spectrum Analysis
The absorption spectrum of pure BTCBC and l-alanine
mixed BTCBC were recorded using UV-Vis-
NIR spectrophotometer in the range from 190nm to
1100nm using Cary 500 scan UV-Vis-NIR
spectrometer and it is shown in Fig. 3. The crystal
shows a good transmittance in the visible region
which enables it to be a good material for
optoelectronic applications. As observed in the
spectrum, the pure BTCB crystal was transparent in
the region from 269 nm to 1100nm and LABTCB
was transparent in the region from 259 nm to 1100
nm. The lower cut off wavelength for pure BTCB is
found at 269 nm and the lower cut off wavelength for
LABTCB is found at 259 nm. The wide range of
transparency suggests that the crystals are good
candidates for nonlinear optical applications. The
shift of lower cutoff wavelength in UV region is due
to mixing of L-alanine and is desirable for
optoelectronic application.

1.4 NLO studies
The second harmonic generation test was carried out by classical powder method developed by Kurtz and Perry [14]. It is an important and popular tool to evaluate the conversion efficiency of NLO materials. The fundamental beam of 1064 nm from Q switched Nd: YAG laser was used to test the second harmonic generation (SHG) property of pure BTCB and LABTCB crystals. Pulse energy 2.9 mJ/pulse and pulse width 8 ns with a repetition rate of 10 Hz were used. The input laser beam was passed through an IR detector and then directed on the microcrystalline powdered sample packed in a capillary tube. The SHG signal generated in the sample was confirmed from emission of green radiation from the sample. KDP and urea crystals were powdered to the identical size and were used as reference materials in the SHG measurement. L-alanine addition increases the SHG efficiency by 1.36 times than KDP this may be due to increases of noncentrosymmetry with the addition of alanine. 3.5 Micro hardness studies
Fig. 4 shows variation of Hv as a function of applied load ranging from 20 to 100 g for pure and L- alanine mixed BTCBC single crystals. It is very clear from the figure that Hv increases with increase in load and with increasing concentration of L-alanine. This may be explained as follows: In the solid state L-alanine exists as zwitterions. So introduction of L-alanine in the crystal lattice of BTCBC creates ionic vacancy. All these defects, act as obstacles to dislocation motion, thus increasing the hardness of the crystals. At higher concentration of impurity, the impurity-vacancy associates into larger aggregate. So, hardness saturates at higher concentration of impurity.

Meyer’s index number was calculated from Meyer’s law [17] which relates the load and indentation diagonal length as P = kdn, log P = log k + n log d,
where k is the material constant and ‘n’ the Meyer’s index. The above relation indicates that Hv should increase with P, if n > 2 and decrease with P when n < 2. This is well satisfied as shown by Fig.4. Meyer’s index number ‘n’ was calculated from the slope of the graph log d vs log p and given in Fig. 5.
According to Hanneman [18], the values of n were 1–1·6 for hard materials and more than 1·6 for soft ones. Therefore from the graph it is clear that all the grown crystals belong to soft category.

3.6 Electrical Analysis Dielectric measurements were made following the methods adopted by Mahadevan and his co- workers [19-20] at various temperatures ranging from 35-150oC with fixed frequency 1 kHz using a Agilent 4284 A LCR meter. The observations were made while cooling the sample. The dimensions of the crystals were measured using a travelling microscope. Air capacitance (Cair) was also measured. The crystals were shaped and polished and the opposite faces were coated with graphite to form a good ohmic contact. As the crystal area was smaller than the plate area of the cell, the real part of the dielectric constant was estimated using Mahadevan’s relation [20] ε' = [Aair/Acry][Ccry – (Cair (1-Acry/Aair))/Cair] where Ccry is the capacitance with crystal (including air), Cair is the capacitance of air, Acry, is the area of the crystal touching the electrode and Aair is the area of the electrode. The imaginary part of the dielectric constant (ε'') was calculated with the measured dielectric loss factor (tan δ) using the relation ε'' = ε’ tan δ The AC electrical conductivity (ζac) was calculated using the relation ζac = εo ε ω tan δ Where εo is the permittivity of free space (8.85 x 10-12 C2N-1m-2) and ω is the angular frequency (ω = 2πf ; f is the frequency of the applied electric field).
Figs. 6-7 show the temperature dependences of dielectric parameters observed for BTCBC and LABTCBC crystals.

These plots exemplify the fact that the dielectric
constant and the dielectric loss and AC conductivity
are directly proportional to the temperature. This is a
normal dielectric behaviour [21]. Dielectric
properties are correlated with the electro-optic
property of the crystals [22]. The higher values of
dielectric loss (tan δ) and dielectric constant observed
at lower frequencies may be attributed to space
charge polarization owing to charged lattice defects
[23]. The considerable low value of dielectric
constants observed for the grown crystals is
important for extending the material applications
towards photonic, electro-optic and NLO devices.
Moreover, the low dielectric losses observed
indicates that the crystals grown in the present study
are of good quality. The temperature dependence of
AC electrical conductivity and dielectric constant can
be explained as due to the temperature dependence of
protonic movement and ionic polarizability
respectively.
IV. Conclusions
Pure and L-alanine mixed BTCBC single
crystals were successfully grown by slow evaporation
techniques. At the maximum Concentration of L-alanine
changes the crystal structure to tetragonal
system. Also L-alanine mixing in different molar
ratio tunes the optical band gap of BTCBC crystals
up to 4.34 eV which was used to scrutinize the
electronic band structure highly demanded for
optoelectronics applications. Also La0.5BTCBC0.5
exhibit maximum SHG efficiency. L-alanine addition
increases hardness due to ionic vacancy. A result of
dielectric measurement indicates a normal dielectric
behaviour. The observed dielectric constants and AC
electrical conductivities have been understood as due
to ionic polarizability and protonic transport. Also L-alanine
addition decreases dielectric constant which
in turn enhances the optical quality of the grown
crystals. Thus L-alanine mixed BTCBC crystals are
better NLO materials than BTCBC.
