“AN EVALUATION OF THE MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM AND TECHNOLOGY IN HOSPITALS”
(GESITI/HOSPITALS).
UPDATED: NOVEMBER 18, 2011.
Abstract.
The Center for Information Technology Renato Archer (CTI), located at Campinas/SP/Br, is a unit of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT) and, is coordinating a research project involving several universities, from Brazil and abroad. The research project “Management of System and Information Technology in Hospitals” (GESITI/Hospitals) has the purpose of mapping out the management of Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT) in hospitals, in order to identify their needs and demands, prospecting for unfolding, perform publication and, mainly, generate a Integrated Research Report (IRR) with a focus on, also, a Report Research Roadmap (RRR). This IRR/RRR is for open for free access, and should be used as decision making support by public and/or private managers.
Currently the research is being carried out by nineteen universities: sixteen Brazilian, one Mexican, one Argentina and one Portuguese. An important initial result of this research work, which makes use of the Interpretative (or Introspective) Methodology, has been the generation in Brazil of an unprecedented database regarding hospital management and, from which several important information is extracted. From each local information, obtained via Local Research Reports (LRR) where the research has been carried out (each local includes the average of results obtained in five (5) hospitals); it becomes possible to undertake local decision making. However, the main purpose of the project is the preparation, based on the integration of all LRR, of an IRR/RRR for national decision-making support.
For a better decision-making on issues of interest to managers regarding the better efficiency and effectiveness of hospital management, public and/or private, the IRR/RRR will also present an integrated comparative analyzes based on all LRR (from Brazil & Abroad).
Although it has not been directly mentioned, the final result, ultimate, from the research should be a significant improvement on the hospital management and on the decision-making process. These results must reflect on peoples more satisfied regarding a better health care.
This is a win-win project, since it is good for Brazil and good for all countries involved. The goal is to reach about one hundred (100) universities (local coordinators) involved.

Validity of Instruments, Appropriateness of Designs and Statistics in Article...iosrjce
The main purpose of the study is to appraise the validity of research instruments, the appropriateness
of the research designs and the statistics used for data analyses in articles published in education journals in
Nigeria. Currently, higher institutions in Nigeria tend to prefer articles published in foreign/international
journals. Some researchers in the country also question the validity of some of the articles published in local
journals. Appropriate research designs, valid instrument and appropriate use of statisticals tools are some of
the indices that make research results credible and dependable. To assess these important variables, three
questions were posed. Journal articles published in Nigeria education Journals for last five years were selected
through accidental sampling technique. Then purposive sampling technique was used to select 132 empirical
studies. Empirical studies were selected because they are the studies that lend themselves to use of designs, data
collection with instruments and statistical analysis of data. Appraisal guides for instrument, design and
statistics were used to assess the articles. The results showed that 67% of the articles were carried out with
appropriate research designs, and in 78% of the articles, appropriate statistics were applied in data analyses.
However, only 36% of the instruments used for the study would generate data that can lead to valid
interpretation of the results. Programmes that will enhance knowledge and stills of researchers to improve the
quality of research based publications are recommended. Institutions of higher learning can help their staff in

Without a complete published description of interventions, clinicians and
patients cannot reliably implement interventions that are shown to be
useful, and other researchers cannot replicate or build on research
findings. The quality of description of interventions in publications,
however, is remarkably poor. To improve the completeness of reporting,
and ultimately the replicability, of interventions, an international group
of experts and stakeholders developed the Template for Intervention
Description and Replication (TIDieR) checklist and guide. The process
involved a literature review for relevant checklists and research, a Delphi
survey of an international panel of experts to guide item selection, and
a face to face panel meeting. The resultant 12 item TIDieR checklist
(brief name, why, what (materials), what (procedure), who provided,
how, where, when and how much, tailoring, modifications, how well
(planned), how well (actual)) is an extension of the CONSORT 2010
statement (item 5) and the SPIRIT 2013 statement (item 11). While the
emphasis of the checklist is on trials, the guidance is intended to apply
across all evaluative study designs. This paper presents the TIDieR
checklist and guide, with an explanation and elaboration for each item,
and examples of good reporting. The TIDieR checklist and guide should
improve the reporting of interventions and make it easier for authors to
structure accounts of their interventions, reviewers and editors to assess
the descriptions, and readers to use the information.

Heart failure is one of the most common types of chronic conditions among the elderly, which results into increased readmissions globally. This statistic is attributable to poor coordination and communication in the transition care settings. The various care settings include skilled nursing facilities, acute-care hospitals, long-standing care facilities and ambulatory stay (Naylor et al., 2017). This research paper is aimed at investigating the reason for poor continuity of care in transition care facilities. A detailed literature review was performed regarding the standard of care in such settings for patients with heart failure. The research methodologies used include case study methods, interviews, and administration of questionnaires. Probability and non-probability methods including stratified sampling and convenience sampling were used as the sampling methodologies. The necessary tools for data collection include questionnaires, interviews, schedules and observation techniques. In addition, an algorithm was created during this design phase. Thus, an insight into the design phase is sought and discussed herein.
Literature Review
Heart failure is a prolonged condition that has been highlighted as one of the top causes of public health complications in the world. The American Journal of Accountable care provides detailed information on heart failure as a public health problem. According to this journal, there are numerous causes of readmission of patients undergoing the transition care model (A Literature Review of Heart Failure Transitional Care Interventions, 2019). The journal highlights various issues, such as early discharge, poor management of underlying problems, poor coordination among key stakeholders and early discharge of patients as the major causes of readmission. All such issues can, however, be prevented and thus this research will discuss some of the coping methods. In addition, the US medical beneficiaries discuss the quality and safety in the transition care model (Teno et al. , 2018). Some of the beneficiaries state their experiences following being admitted into the transition care model. This article complements the previous article by adding real life case study analysis of patients who have been previously admitted to the transition care. Further, interviews of clinicians working in the transition care model are highlighted with an explanation of failure to conduct follow up visits of particular patients.
The American Journal of Public Health explores the affordability of the transition care and the quality of care that some patients can be able to afford. The article has explored the ...

USABILITY TESTING PROCESS WITH PEOPLE WITH DOWN SYNDROME INTREACTING WITH MOB...ijcsit
We present a review of research related to the usability testing of mobile applications including
participants with Down syndrome. The purpose is to identify good usability testing practices and possible
guidelines for this process when participants are people with this cognitive disability. These practices and
guidelines should account for their specific impairments. We applied document analysis techniques to
searches of scientific databases. The results were filtered considering how well they matched the research
topic. We processed and reported the classified and summarized results. The main findings of this literature
review is that mobile applications usability testing including people with Down syndrome is an issue that
has not be comprehensively investigated. While there is some related research, this is incomplete, and there
is no single proposal that takes on board all the issues that could be taken into account. Consequently, we
propose to develop guidelines on the usability testing process involving participants with Down syndrome.
How to write chapter three of your research projectEtieneIma123
Chapter three of the research project or the research methodology is another significant part in the research project writing. In developing the chapter three of the research project, you state the research method you wish to adopt, the instruments to be used, where you will collect your data and how you collected it.
This chapter explains the different methods to be used in the research project. Here you mention the procedures and strategies you will employ in the study such as research design, research area (area of the study), the population of the study, etc.
You also tell the reader why you chose a particular method, how you planned to analyze your data. Your methodology should be written in a simple language such that other researchers can follow the method and arrive at the same conclusion or findings.

(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

The study herein presented explores two dimensions of research in surveyor staff:
a) research capability and b) research activity.
Research capability can be divided into two levels: research-related functions
(study design, literature review, critical reading, collecting data, writing
reports, presenting results, etc.) and proficiency with document resources
and bibliography management tools. The second dimension explores
research activity through questions about: post-graduate and postdoctorate training, attendance of congresses and participation in international projects, responsibilities such as principal investigator, publication of articles or other materials.
Summary of results
(1). The Research Potential among interviewees was
seen to be highly variable with a mean score of 8.5 and
an interquartile range of 13.32.
(2). Specifically the Research Capability dimension
(calculated on a scale of 10) disclosed a mean score of
6.19 (± 3.37). The three aspects of such dimension in
which the largest number of professionals responded
affirmatively are: information searching through the
Internet (100%); writing up contents for a congress to
be held in their mother tongue (90.3%); data collection
and analysis (80.6%). Meanwhile, those aspects that
need strengthening refer to article writing (48.4%) and
oral expression in foreign languages (38.7%).
(3). 7 out of 10 documental resources and bibliography management tools in the questionnaire had been
used by 30% of the interviewees. A highlight here was
Pubmed, used by 64.5% of the subjects of the study.
Objectives
Agencia de Calidad Sanitaria de Andalucía
Andalusian Agency for Healthcare Quality
Understanding research on healthcare
quality as a critical source of evidence,
the objective is to assess the research
potential of surveyors from an organisation geared to boosting healthcare quality -Andalusian Agency for Healthcare
Quality (Spain)-, by means of a selfassessment tool on research skills which
contains specific questions dealing with
research capability and activity.
Conclusions and Recommendations
(1). The use of a self-assessment questionnaire on
research skills in surveyors from an organisation
aimed at enhancing healthcare quality helps professionals to identify improvement areas, which, in this
case, were those referring to acquiring knowledge and
skills for the various stages of the research process.
(2). Applying the self-assessment questionnaire
helped the interviewee surveyors to reflect on the
significance of research in organisations devoted to
healthcare quality and accreditation programmes.

(4). Finally, with regard to Research Activity, contributions to congresses held in the home country (90.3%)
far outnumbered those to foreign congresses (41.9%).
(4). The study was a useful way of shaping the design
of the organisation’s research strategy for the coming
years.
(5). As a general conclusion, organizations devoted to
accreditation generate lot of valuable knowledge, and
what is needed is a scheduled strategy for processing
all that information and transforming it into researchable questions, managing surveyors’ research skills.
