Drugs Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of drugs can be a challenging endeavor, as it involves navigating
through a complex and controversial subject. The difficulty lies not only in presenting factual
information but also in addressing the myriad perspectives and opinions surrounding drug use
and abuse. Crafting a well-rounded essay requires a nuanced understanding of the social,
economic, and health implications associated with drugs.
Researching the topic demands a thorough examination of historical contexts, scientific studies,
legal frameworks, and societal attitudes toward drugs. The vast amount of information available,
ranging from the physiological effects of drugs on the human body to the socio-cultural impact
of drug policies, can be overwhelming. Sorting through this wealth of data requires discernment
to identify reliable sources and credible studies.
The complexity of the subject matter also arises from the diverse viewpoints on drug-related
issues. Different stakeholders, such as policymakers, healthcare professionals, law enforcement
agencies, and advocacy groups, often have conflicting perspectives on the appropriate approach
to handling drug-related problems. Balancing these conflicting views while maintaining an
objective and analytical tone in the essay can be a delicate task.
Furthermore, addressing the ethical aspects of drug use and its implications on individuals and
society adds another layer of complexity. It requires careful consideration of personal freedoms,
the role of government intervention, and the potential for unintended consequences in drug
policy decisions.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of drugs demands a deep understanding of various
facets of the subject, the ability to sift through a plethora of information, and the skill to present
a well-reasoned and balanced argument. It is not merely about reporting facts but about
navigating a complex landscape of perspectives and controversies. Despite its difficulty, a well-
crafted essay on drugs can contribute meaningfully to the ongoing discourse on this multifaceted
issue.

Dances With Wolves Stereotypes
Overcoming Stereotypes in the Movie, Dances With Wolves
Everyone has a preconceived opinion of how a certain ethnic group is in terms of
the way they live, the morals they hold, the way they deal with people different from
them, and how they deal with one another. We come to these conclusions by what we
have seen in the media, heard from other people, or actually experienced ourselves.
Most people would consider these opinions to be stereotypes. Dances with Wolves is
a motion picture that deals with and touches on all sides of personal stereotypes we
as American and American Indianshave about each other. John Dunbar takes us
through and allows us to see how it is to come into a situation he was not familiar
with and then eventually the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also came across intimidated by John because of his courage through this
miserable time. He saw Dunbar as someone he could never be and he didn t see his
life worth living anymore.
Going into the movie we did not really get a strong sense of how Dunbar thought of
the Indians. While he was journeying out to the frontier Dunbar asked Timmons, a
man that was taking him there, what he thought about Indians. With no hesitation at
all Timmons stated that they were all thieves, murderers, and savages. Dunbar didn t
ever state what he thought of the Indians. I got the impression that he really did not
have an opinion about them because he has never dealt with them. He seemed like
the type of guy that would not assume something without experiencing it for himself.
Everyone he talked to about Indians probably said the same things Timmons did, but
for some reason Dunbar was different from the rest. He seemed to be better than that.
The Indians are finally presented in the movie by the screen scanning across a wide
open desert very peaceful and deserted. In the middle of all this silence the camera
fell upon a skeleton of a human that we assume the Indians killed. This is how the
movie sets the tone for how we are going to think about the Indians. They play with
the stereotype that all us Americans think are true about the Indians. At first we think
that we were right, but the story does not end there.
The first encounter that Dunbar has with the Indians is when
Cape Tribulation
Dusky moorhens are common to the area, along with pacific black ducks. Saw
shelled turtles are frequent in the lake. The Australian water dragon is also seen near
the lake and the surrounding area. The flora in the area include the giant kauri and an
umbrella tree. The Australian Christmas tree is often near the edge of the lake. In the
lake itself, water lilies are common.
Cape Tribulation is an area in the Daintree forest near the Pacific Ocean. Its
temperature is also somewhat constant throughout the year but drops slightly between
the months of June and August. The average temperature throughout the year is 28.6
Celsius. It experiences both a wet and dry season. The wet season occurs between
the months of January and March, with the peak in March. The average rainfall
during this time is 402 millimeters. The dry season is at its most ... Show more

While vegetation is quite sparse on the beach, the forest can get quite lush. The
flora in the area can range from medium sized bushes to fully grown trees. The
cassowary plum and small screw pines are common. Ginger trees are also seen. The
burrawang palms grow around the areas near the ocean.
The fauna in the area include small animals and medium to large birds. There is
also a wide range of insects common to the area. The peppermint stick insect is
especially prevalent. Cassowaries and scrub turkeys can sometimes be seen
wandering the area. The rhino beetle is also a common insect to the region.
The mangrove forests are located in the wet tropics. The average temperature and
rainfall are similar to that in Cape Tribulation, likely due to its close proximity. The
temperature averages around 28.6 Celsius, but in the coldest month of July can
average 20.5 Celsius. This area also experiences a wet and dry season. The wet
season is at its highest between January and March, averaging about 427.9
millimeters. In the dry seasons, the average is around 37.5
Biography of J. Gresham Machen Essay
Biography of J. Gresham Machen
John Gresham Machen was born in Baltimore, Maryland on July 28th 1881 to
parents Arthur Webster and Mary Hones Gresham. From an early age Machen was
taught lessons of the bible and of Jesus. His family attended a Presbyterian church
called Franklyn Street Presbyterian. (Wikipedia) Machen s father was a lawyer and
therefore Machen was considered to be brought up in a rather privileged home. He
attendee a private college where he was educated in classics such a Greek and Latin.
Machen began his education at John Hopkins University in 1898 where he majored

However, Machen never identified himself as a fundamentalist because he would not
embrace things such as premillennialism and the anti intellectual attitude of
traditional fundamentals.(Piper)
In 1929, Princeton Seminary was beginning to sway toward liberal theology, which
Machen opposed. In response to the changes at Princeton, Machen went on to found
Westminster Theology Seminary in order to continue reformed orthodox theology.
Later, in 1933, Machen , along with seven others, were suspended from the
Presbyterian ministry. They went on to leave the Northern Presbyterian Church and
founded the Orthodox Presbyterian church. Only a few years later, in 1937, Machen
died at age 56. even though he died rather young, Machen helped shape the
conservative movement against Modernists without being a true fundamentalist. His
books, sugh as his textbook on New Testament Greek, are still used today in modern
seminaries. (Haykin)
Machen s thoughts about society and Christianity can be found in many of his own
books. The book I found most useful was entitled What is Faith?. Unlike
fundamentalists, Machen believed that education was highly important in society;
yet, he still thought that the most significant part of Christianity was not throught the
church or school. In the introduction of what is Faith? Machen explains:

At one point there was a ban on selling baby turtles because they were known to

Salmonella is usually found in poultry, but mainly in raw or undercooked eggs. It
can also be found in a lot of countries and states. Usually salmonella isn t too severe
but there are many ways it can go wrong. If contracted, salmonella can cause many

Salmonella can backfire or do a lot of bad things in the body in many ways. Some

Nature And Nurture In George BпїЅchner s Woyzeck
Nature, Nurture, and The Forgotten Third Option: A Director s Perspective on
Woyzeck Stella Adler, famous actress and acting teacher once stated that the theatre
was created to tell people the truth about life and the social situation. Woyzeck by
Georg BГјchner is a play that perfectly represents Adler s view on theatre. The plot
of the play revolves around a troubled lower class man named Woyzeck, who
ultimately murders his lover, Marie. But it is not merely the plot that makes this play
align with Adler s view, rather, it is the naturalistic style of the Woyzeck. Naturalistic
theatre examines the human psyche and how one is influenced by nature and nurture.
Through BГјchner s use of plot structure and thought, Woyzeck will be directed in a
manner that makes the audience realize that human behavioris not simply a byproduct
of nature versus nurture, that there is indeed a third option: self will. Firstly, our
production s primary theatrical aspect is our plot structure. We begin Woyzeck with
scene twenty nine. Not only does the stage directions describing Woyzeck s character
lend this scene to be the first, the policeman s dialogue further supports this change.
The policeman repeats the word murder, therefore, there is no mystery behind who
was murdered (Marie) and who murdered her (Woyzeck). Rather, the mystery
becomes why Woyzeck murders Marie. Our stasis includes scenes twenty nine, two,
three, one, four, five, and eight in that order. The stasis therefore sets up
Informative Speech On Type 2 Diabetes
There are many medical diseases that people have. A type of medical disease that a
lot of people have is diabetes. Many suffer from this disease, and it is becoming
more common. In my life I know of two family members who have diabetes. It
doesn t seem like diabetes is a big deal, but it actually is life threatening to some.
Diabetes doesn t just occur in certain people. It can be diagnosed to anybody, but
more commonly in obese people. As of 2015, 30.3 million Americans had diabetes
(CDC Newsroom). Some causes of diabetes is obesity, and family history. Diabetes
is also diagnosed when your body doesn t get enough or any insulin. Another cause of
diabetes is if your body doesn t use the insulin right. If you aren t getting insulin
properly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another type of diabetes is Gestational diabetes. This type of diabetes occurs only
in pregnant women. Not many people are diagnosed with this type, but it can be a
risk. Even if you are diagnosed with gestational diabetes the baby will still be
healthy. If you have gestational diabetes, then you are more likely to get type 2 in the
future.
In order to know if you have diabetes you have to get tests done. A test you can get
done to see if you have diabetes is an A1C test. An A1C test measures the
percentage of blood sugar attached to hemoglobin. If your blood sugar is high then
more sugar will be attached to the hemoglobin. 5.7 is a normal A1C level. If your
A1C level comes back 6.5 or higher you will be diagnosed with diabetes. It is better
to get a test done by a professional, rather than just trying to do the test
The Pros And Cons Of Body Cameras
While video can tell us a lot about encounters between the police and the public,
body cams also raise concerns about privacy (Majerol 6). Police officers aren t high

without authorization of the sheriff, to reveal that recorded information. On the flip
side, these could make officers and suspects interact better at traffic stops or calls,
because who is going to want recorded proof of them resisting arrest or breaking the

huge factor, which is understandable for cities like LA or Chicago or even Fort

This cry was repeated in honor of the shattering loss of the Alamo for Texas
independence. The Alamo was an emblem of leadership and sacrifice displayed in
a stand of fearlessness. Though under provisioned in all areas in men, in food, in
arms, and especially in protection the men standing in defense of the Alamo
resolved to give their all and sacrifice their lives to secure Texas independence.
Despite their courage, bravery, and greatest efforts, the Alamo was a demoralizing
loss to both Texas and to the nation. In retaliation to this crushing overthrow, and
the loss in valor, Sam Houston and his army took revenge for the souls slain and
the lives given in defense of the Alamo in the following battle of the Runaway
Scrape. Though outnumbered by Santa Ana s army almost 6 1, Sam Houston and
800 men, each filled with reprisal, swept through the Mexican army and slayed
almost the entire force in a matter of nearly 18 minutes. Though vengeance was
taken and independence secured, nothing would fill the void of the souls lost in the
Alamo. The Alamo was and is a symbol: It is an icon of resistance and
determination, of generations past, and more importantly, to the generation of today s
nation. It was the leadership, it was the will, and it was the sacrifice of the Alamo,
which gained true independence for Texas. Remember the

a more conciliatory approach towards the political opposition and the military. In
December 2008, following two years of a military backed caretaker government, the

elections in the country s history. The hope, both at home and abroad, was that

Another way would be to find the difference between the pre 3d ticket and after as
followed.
To calculate the mean involve adding all the costs up before the 3d movie ($41)
and dividing them by the total number of tickets (4) which equals $10.25, using the
same steps to find the mean after the 3d movie is $75/ 5 movies = $15 a difference
of $4.75.
To find the range the numbers need to be aligned numerically, 8, 10, 10, 13, Subtract
8 from 13 leaves the range of 5, if the 3d movie ticket price is added into the list 8,
10, 10, 13, 34, subtract 8 from 34 leaving the range after the 3d movie of 26.
Again to find the median it is essential to align the numbers numerically, 8, 10, 10, 13
is and equal number therfore we must use addition to calculate the two middle
numbers (10+10) and divide this by two, (10+10)2 which equals $10 if the 3d movie
ticked is added into the equation 8, 10, 10, 13, 34 the median is still

AP Biology Lab Report: How the Amount of Motor Oil Affects Hatching Viability of
Brine Shrimp Eggs
Question
How does the amount of motor oil in the environment of a brine shrimp affect the
hatching viability of brine shrimp eggs?
Hypothesis
If hatching viability is affected by the amount of motor oil in the environment of the
brine shrimp eggs, then when the amount of motor oil is increased the hatching
viability will decrease.
Experimental Design
The independent variable was the amount of motor oil in 2% salt solution because it
is the variable that was being tested and purposefully manipulated. The dependent
variable was the hatching viability of the brine shrimp tested (which was calculated
by adding the number of brine shrimp swimming at 24 hours to the number of brine
shrimp swimming at 48 hours, and then divided by the total number of eggs initially
placed in the petri dish). The control group was a petri dish of brine shrimp in 30 ml
of 2% salt solution with no motor oil. The constants, or variables that need to be
controlled, were the salinity percentage of the salt solution (2%), the amount of salt
solution in each petri dish (30 ml), the total time the brine shrimp were left in the
petri dishes (48 hours), and the frequency of when the brine shrimp were checked
(every 24 hours).

Minor Client Challenges
Ethical and Legal Challenges When Counseling Minors Working with minor clients

It is essential to work with the parents or guardians of the minor child to have the
greatest success in counseling. Educating and bringing awareness to the minor child
and their parents/guardians about confidentiality is key. The counselor should state
clear and precise roles each the counselor, parent, and child plays in the therapeutic
process (Herlihy Corey, 2015). Counselor can be guided through this process by
using the ACA Code of Ethics Standard A.2.d, which states the counselor
acknowledges the need to balance between the parent/guardian and the minor child. A
counselor acknowledges this code with respect for Standard B.5.d, which states a
counselor respects inherent rights and responsibilities of the parent/guardian over the

She is bitter, hardhearted, and really neutral in the lives of the patients. She is worried
only with maintaining her unquestionable power and authority over the men in the

Ratched s concealed femininity to the surface. Forman does not want to mess the
minds of the spectators (with Nurse Ratched s suppressed woman ness) and danger

Randall delicately develops relationships with the other patients and encourages them

Questions On Design Of Technical Systems Essay

AME 503 Paper Study 2
INTRODUCTION
As specified in the paper Complexity in Design of Technical Systems, an exact
definition to the meaning of the word complexity is a matter of debate and
discussion. It is not to be mistaken for anything but the complexity involved while
designing or modifying a technical system or rather an engineering system. The
paper is vigorous in mentioning the existence of two main complexities that needs
special attention dawned upon them while designing the system viz. inborn
complication and acquired complication. Inborn complications are dictated by the
customer needs that have been considered for the design, they may not be varied or
dealt with as stated by Nam Pyo Suh however the sphere of influence of the designer
is within the reaches of the acquired complexity. Acquired complexity may be kept to
a minimal low if the designer of the system carefully understands the inter relations,
functional dependency and the physical probabilities involved, but at the same time
the inborn complication should also be kept at its lowest possible level based on
Customer Requirements (CR).
It is most likely that the readers get confused between Suh s Axiomatic Design
Theory and Complexity Theory , although they seem to be intertwined into each other
s concepts it is obvious through deeper study that the former focuses on functional
dependency and the later primarily on physical probability

My Eagle Scout Project
The cold air was giving everyone extra energy that they needed on the early
Sunday morning. I would normally like to be sleeping in on the weekend, but that
day was an exception. At 7 am on a Sunday morning in late October, I was awakened
by my alarm. For the first few moments after waking up I didn t know why I set an
alarm so early, then it hit me, my Eagle Scout Project is today. After getting up and
getting in the car with my dad to go to the worksite early to set up, I saw the
footbridge we would be repairing for my project. The footbridge was damaged in a
recent flood and half of it was washed away, so it was unusable. If people wanted to
go across the small river, they had to walk on a slippery tree that had fallen over
during the flood.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first people were the representatives from Holliday Nature Preserve that helped
me design the new part of the footbridge. They went down to the worksite to get
the blueprints out and more people came to help. After about 20 minutes of people
showing up and taking their tools down to the worksite, it was finally time to
begin construction. The repair will be extending the bridge 16 feet to the top of
the river bank with three 16 foot beams. Luckily there were many adults that could
help lift the heavy beams into place because the young scouts wouldn t be able to
lift them on their own. While the adults did all the heavy lifting, I had the younger
scouts work on digging water bars into the hill to stop further erosion of the river
bank. The task of digging a hole for a 2x4 didn t seem like a problem for the scouts,
so I went to check on the footbridge. Coming down from the hill where the water
bars were being placed, I could hear all the power tools like drills and saws being
used to construct the walkway connecting the bridge to land. After watching
everyone work together and have a good time, I decided to help saw the floor
planks for the walkway. For about 15 minutes of sawing and talking to the adults
that were taking a quick break themselves, I felt that the footbridge was coming
along exactly as planned and I went to check the scouts. I didn t expect the water
bars to take along time to dig and I was right
Measurements in Boundary Layer Flows
Abstract: In this experiment, the velocity profile for a flat plate at zero pressure
gradient of a boundary layer at two different stream wise points were acquired. The
investigation was also based on and how changes in Reynolds number affect the
velocity distribution within boundary layers. Parameters such as the Momentum
Thickness, Displacement Thickness, Shape Factor, shear stress and coefficient of
friction was also calculated to gain a better understand of boundary layers. The
experimental values calculated were compared to the theoretical Blasius for laminar
flow and Power Law Solutions for turbulent flow to see how they varied. It was found
out the higher the Reynolds numberthe greater the boundary layerthickness. As the...

[5] The boundary layer can also be measured by other factors. One factor is the
Displacement Thickness, Оґ*. It is defined as the distance by which the free
streamlines are displaced in the y direction due to the formation of the boundary
layer. The formation of the boundary layer reduces the mass flow rate per unit area.
This is because near the surface the molecules are travelling slower, meaning less
flow rate per unit area is going out compared to coming in. In order to compensate
for this loss in mass flow rate, the external streamlines (free streamlines) will be
displaced. The distance it displaced is the Оґ*. [5] When deriving this equation it is
assumed the flow is incompressible and steady. Another factor is the Momentum
Thickness, Пґ. It is defined as the thickness of a layer of freestream fluid carrying a

Analysis Of Dorothea Tanning s Birthday
Being associated with the surrealist movement, and more specifically, an elite group
of surrealists, Dorothea Tanning stands out. Her desire to create both poetry and
paintings which can be interpreted as having no exit, is what makes her works
different from other surrealists. With the ambition to create a piece that is interpreted
as having no exit, Dorothea Tanning s Birthday, 1942 the paintingexemplifies an
illusion of power and isolation. This self portrait, Birthday by Dorothea Tanning is
amongst her first works. Kimmelman referred to the painting saying, Birthday is one
of Dorothea Tanning s earliest works, and is considered her first mature painting
(Kimmelman 1). She painted her self portrait while she was in New York. It caught
the eyeof her future husband, Max Ernstand sparked his initial attention to her. In
fact, Max Ernst suggested the name Birthday for this piece. The unique aspects
that Dorothea Tanning incorporates into this painting such as, the unconscious as
a reality, and relationships with the unnatural, inspired her later works. They also
flag her as a surrealist, being a surrealist and having a fixation on the mind, Tanning
is able to use her preoccupation with eroticism to create exciting, dramatic imagery
to display passages from one reality to another (Grimberg 59). Her fixation on the
mind, is evident in this painting when she creates a relationship between viewers
and the woman in the self portrait. Birthday from 1942, is an oil on canvas self
portrait. The painting s prominent subject is a woman who is standing alone to
the left of the canvas. She is dressed uniquely in a dark brown ruffled skirt that
reaches all the way to her calves. On the sides of her skirt, there is an abundance of
vine like roots overflowing from the back towards the front. Her top is an open,
purple, green, and white decorative jacket; revealing her bosom, chest, and some of
her torso. With her left hand, she is holding onto a knob of one of the many doors
that are behind her; yet she is looking off in a different direction from these doors.
The woman wears no shoes, and to the right of her feet is an animal that looks like
a combination of a cat and bat. The creature has big yellow eyes and a
Defaulting College Tuition Debt
PROBLEM DEFINITION
Along with scholarships, fellowships, and grants, student loans are an important
method of financing post secondary education. With tuition costs rising, more
students are borrowing to pay for college education today. However, not all students
realize the burden of paying back their student loans. Many are defaulting.
Moreover, individual borrowers are not the only ones who face the consequences of
the loan default. The federal government recovers around 80% of the total defaulted
amount of student loans, losing billions of dollars each year. The latest data from
the U.S. Department of Education indicates that student loan default rates have been
rising. Official 2011 default rate is 10%. ( Comparison of FY 2011 2 Year... Show

Borrowers do not have power over the maximum amount they can borrow, over the
interest rate, over anything in fact. However, at the time of enrollment, loan is not
a real thing for the borrowers, as they do not have to worry about paying it back
right away. They face problems when they need help repaying the loans or cannot
repay the loans. Then, they have a legitimate and urgent issue to deal with, but still
no power. So the borrowers are moderately salient or expectant stakeholders
(Mitchell, Agle, and Wood 853 86). They can only choose from the available
repayment options or default on their loans.
Another group of stakeholders is the schools. Loan servicers monitor when
students do not make payments on their loans and go into default and report it to
the school and the department of education. At this point, the school tries to reach
the student and explain to them existing repayment plans or forbearance options.
If the student does not sign the repayment plan or the forbearance, the loan is
reported on a cohort default rate. (Default cohort consists of loans that go into the
repayment during a single federal fiscal year (from Oct 1 to Sept 30). There are 2
year and 3 year default cohort periods). If the reported school default rate gets to
25% in 3 consecutive years or 40% in one year, the college could lose eligibility to
participate in the Direct Loan program, and in most cases, the Federal Pell Grant
program. That is
Discussing The First World War
When discussing the First World War, there are a myriad of topics, theories and
debates that can be brought up, especially when its regarding to its breakout and
and what lead to it. There are multiple direct and indirect causes that all are
interconnected with one another, making it very difficult to just discuss about one
topic without it overlapping with another completely different topic. One of the
most unquestionable causes that lead to the outbreak of the war was the alliance
system that was active in the early twentieth century and that was however set into
motion well before in the mid nineteenth century. The alliance system can be
viewed as major causes from two main different perspectives; it can be considered
as a immediate cause or as a indirect background cause. However, the existence of
the alliances is crucial to the bringing about of the first world war from both
perspectives The existence of the multiple alliances and treaties is considered as a
major immediate and direct cause to the bringing about of the First World War
because it turned a conflict between two countries that could ve been easily
contained into a full scale world war that involved multiple countries. To fully
understand how and why this series of chain events were set into motion, one must
know and comprehend all the past alliances, treaties and accords that were created in
the past and that in time would bring to the two major European alliances, the Triple

Case Study Between Merger And Acquisition
Question 1: The integration strategy embark upon by Reliance Industry Limited
(RIL) chairman Mukesh Ambani is at the core of the company evolution and growth,
and the idea of building strength in India first and then leveraging it to build a global
business is a good strategy, Consistent with this strategy, Reliance merged Indian

Therefore, in acquisition two companies combine together to form a new company
altogether. Looking at some differences between merger and acquisition below.
Merger involve a mutual decision. Unlike acquisition that can be friendly takeover
or hostile takeover, merger is often expensive than acquisition due to inclusion of
legal cost, shareholders have the opportunity to increase their net worth through a
merger which is not possible in the acquisition. The transaction in acquisition is
much easier and faster than as it is in merger, dilution of ownership occurred in
merger whereas the acquirers does not experience dilution of ownership. Why
companies consider merger to be important for their business success is not far
fetch, to increase market share, economies of scale, profit from R D, benefits on
account of tax shields and reduction of competition. However, the merger also has
some associated problems such as increased business complexity, clash of corporate
culture and sometime employee may be resistance to
Budget Cuts To Education
Education has become an essential part of human life it creates an opportunity for
people to improve their environment, help others, create jobs, and develop new
technology. Having a well stablished education in the United States can only improve
the economy and be ready compete with other countries. Even though, the importance
of educationis well stablished yet the budget cuts to education have always been an
issue therefore many students do not receive an adequate education. The current
approach for education seems to create and implement standardized test to students to
measure how much they are learning in the classroom without considering
individualistic differences in students and other special needs. Bills such as the No

Smart Watches Can Be Good For Them
Introduction Smart watches are wrist worn devices with computational power,
integrated sensors, connectivity to other devices or Internet and an integrated
clock (Bieber et all, p. 1, 2012). More or less of the features on the new starting
time of smart watches involve Global Positioning System (GPS), world clock,
images and graphics (Apple, 2015). Conversely Rawassizadeh et al. (2014) provide
the history of smart watches where the writer explains that initial watches were
presented in 1970 as LED and LCD watches, although it was expensive to be made at
that instant. Even though wrist worn devices were introduced more three decades

intelligent watches will have identical features to a smart phone. The authors also
bring up that smart watches are key importance to the evolution of health an

We sometimes pick and choose many things depending on the cost, for example,
the money we spend on food also depends on where the right place to eat is.
Keeping in mind that the food served at both is the same; you may like to save
some extra money in your pocket. The food at P.F changes is more cost worthy.
Instead, at Pei Wei it is not, because you actually pay for the amount of food you
get. When deciding to go to P.F Chang s, it is smart to remember the additional
charges they may add to the entrГ©e simply because of the restaurant expenses.
The food is in family portions which does not give everybody on your table a
distinct choice of food. You may have to end up ordering a variety of family
portion entrГ©e to accompany everybody on your table. Ordering many more
family entrees can make the bill be higher than expected. At Pei Wei, the entrees
are reasonably priced not to mention that they are the usual servings for one person.
Rather than having to get five whole entire family portions of different things to
satisfy everyone, it is better and also cheaper for each person to personalize their
plate. Something many people do not keep in mind when going to restaurants is
the tip you have to consider at the end of your bill. If you go to Pei Wei, you do not
need to tip, but if you go to P.F Chang s with a large group there is usually a
recommended tip on the bill. Little
The Speech By Frederick Douglas
The speech What to a Slave is the Fourth of July? was spoken, by Frederick
Douglas, to the supporters and abolitionists at the Rochester Ladies Anti Slavery
Society of Fourth of July. In his speech Frederick Douglas speaks heavily on the
subject of abolitioning slavery. Frederick Douglas provides comparisons and
analogies, appeals to the audience s logic, and appeals to the audience s emotion in
order to convince the audience to more vigorously fight for the abolition of slavery.
Douglas provides comparisons between the founding fathers and the abolition
movement. He does this by using antithesis when he brings up that To side with the
right, against the wrong, with the weak against the strong, and with the oppressed
against the oppressor! is what the founding fathers had to do in order to fight against
the oppression of Britain. Frederick Douglas use of antithesis explains to the audience
that the abolitionist movement may be fighting the losing side, but they are fighting
for the good of the country. The abolitionists and its supporters are led to believe that
the founding fathers faced the same odds and situation. The audience likely feels
inspired to fight more vigorously for the oppressed due to the fact that they admire
the founding fathers greatly. Frederick Douglas again supports this comparison
through the use of asyndeton. When Douglas says the founding fathers fought the
oppression of Britain by Fully appreciating the hardship to be encountered,
Romantic Love Essay
Romantic love as a cultural script includes the belief that love is all you need; true
love lasts forever; true lovers become one; love is pure and good; and anything
done in the name of love cannot be wrong (Ben Ze ev Goussinsky, 2008). Romantic
ideology encompasses positive aspects of love, such as mutual devotion and
intimacy. This influence is present in a beginning scene where Angela is talking to
Mamen about her boyfriend and stating her faithfulness. She explains how she is
able to separate the job (prostitution) from her loyalty. Even if work is busy, 30
guys in a day, she will continue to be faithful. Angela advises Mamen to take care of
her own boyfriend. Then a pseudo scenario is brought up where a hot guy at a club

Later on, Caya is on a date with Manuel and she asks him that question. She
basically cries when he replies that he would definitely pick her up from work.
Zulema also contributes to the romantic script by showing us some affiliation as she
cooks for one of her returning clients. A final instance that is in the grey area between
insanity and romantic love is Caya s mother, Pilar. Looping into the ideology that
true love lasts forever, we can see how Pilar continues to love her dead husband
because she does not accept the fact he has passed. During the film, Pilar
consistently receives flowers to her house from an anonymous sender. At first
perception we can think she has a secret admirer. Subsequently, her son supports
the idea of the admirer, but Pilar insists that they are from her husband. It is later
revealed by Caya that she had been sending flowers to herself the whole time.
Physical attractiveness is especially important to men choosing a prospective
sexual partner or mate, as shown by research in many cultures. Males will usually
choose good looks, whereas women favor personal qualities and earning abilities.
Preference is also determined by sexist attitudes about gender roles. People with
more sexist beliefs about gender role ideologies prefer partners who have traditional
masculine/feminine qualities (Crawford, 2012). Using the films schema, we can
identify good looks as big breasts, big butts, nice hair, fixed nails, and a clean
appearance overall. Caya

Identifying Opportunities for Achieving a Competitive Advantage in Singapore Today
Introduction
Today, Singapore enjoys a thriving free market economy and represents an
important financial center for Southeast Asia. In this environment, it is not
surprising that dozens of new businesses are opening each week in Singapore to
take advantage of these boom economic times, including Western operations such as
Starbucks and McDonalds, which offer fast service and a known quality. As the
shop owner of a cafe in a quiet part of Singapore that serves a range of snacks,
simple meals and non alcoholic beverages, the competition from these global brands
may signal the beginning of the end unless aggressive marketing steps are taken
today. To this end, this paper provides a review of the relevant peer reviewed and
scholarly literature to develop a marketing plan for such a cafГ© in Singapore,
followed by a summary of the research and important findings in the conclusion.
Review and Discussion Marketing plans for small companies should include a
positioning statement that is congruent with their business plans and address
segmentation in order to effectively target their market (Solomon, 2011). The
positioning statement for the Singapore cafГ© in question would therefore
emphasize world class customer service as a way to differentiate this small business
from encroachments by competitors such as Starbucks and McDonalds. Fortunately,
this aspect of the marketing plan can be highly
The Elderly are Changing the Face of Health Care Essay
The elderly aged 65 and older are the leading users of healthcare services
nationwide. As the older Americans is an asset to the country, the increasingly aging
population is a challenge. In 2050, the number of Americans aged 65 and older is
projected to be 88.5 million, more than double its projected population of 40.2 million
in 2010 (Vincent, and Velcoff). It is important to recognize the growth of the aging

Patient factors include poor adherence, low tolerance of health outcomes and the
inability to long term health outcomes It is the lack of proper dosage, and
complicated formularies of the complex drug (Murray). The benefits must therefore
meet health budgets and health safety to help the elderly in these times and the
future. The care of the elderly most importantly comes from their doctors and
physicians to ensure patient safety, giving appropriate dosages and information, and
quality care. Health care organizations must determine the costs that will meet
guidelines of quality benefits. Overall it is the patient or the caregiver who must take
responsibility for the patients medication and reaching better health. Using
information technology is another important component to improve health care.
Information technology can help improve the quality of care to older adults and their
caregivers to better manage their own care. Information technology improves
communication between doctors and patients by accessing Patient Portal, an online
tool that offers patients a secure environment to perform functions like scheduling
appointments, requesting refills on medications, looking at lab results and
communicating with their providers in a confidential and secure manner ( What is a
patient portal? ). By providing effective care physicians need computer systems to

Correlation Between Productive And Negative Favoritism
There is always someone in the workplace that seems like they have it easy. It
might be the walk, the talk, or maybe favoritism is on their side. The relationships
with the manager personally and in the workplace seems to be becoming obvious
that it s the boss favorite. With all the issues favoritism can have in a workplace
like, age, race, disability, etc. There is a purpose to having favoritism since can be
a good strategy to motivate workers to do their best. It can also show that the
person worked hard to be in the positioning there are in. The main point is knowing
the difference between productive and negative favoritism in order to adjust/take
action to become the best we can be. Favoritism is something in the workplace and
in everyday life would make things seem unfair. It would make gals to reach not
equally possible when, when certain employees already has a halo effect from the
managers. This can occur in all workplaces but most of the time in organizations
like warehouses and big companies that needs thousands of people in order to
reach goals. Even though it s almost human nature to have favoritism in the
workplace, it is also avoidable to make it evenly fair among all the employees to
have an opportunity to move up in positions. I believe favoritism is part of Human
Resource Management because it needs to be manage to favor all employees. Letting
whatever that is bothering us at work spoken out to the manager is also a solution to

The Dolly Suite Essay
Gabriel Faure (12 May 1845 4 Nov 1924) The Dolly Suite is a collection of six
short piano duets. It was inspired and composed for Helene, nicknamed Dolly , the
daughter of singer Emma Bardac, with whom Faure was intimately associated in
the 1890s. This suite was composed and revised between 1893 to 1896. Berceuse
(a Lullaby) is the first in the suite, and was a present for Helene s first birthday. It
has a soothing melody over a gently rocking accompaniment, that hints at a cradle
song. The other 5 movements of the suite titled Mi a ou , Le jardin de Dolly ,
Kitty Valse , Tendresse , and Le Pas Espagnol respectively, were given on other
separate occasions to mark special occasions and other birthdays in Helene s life.
Berceuse was chosen as the signature theme song for the long running BBC home
service programme, Listen with Mother , and though Faure usually favoured strictly
functional titles, since the six movements were personal gifts, they were given
whimsical titles associated with Dolly and her family. The suite is Faure s only
significant composition for a piano duet, and was first premiered by Alfred Cortot
and Edouard Risler in 1898.

Carbon Dioxide Gas Essays
06.05 Rate and Collision Theory: Assessment Instructions
Investigation of the Rate of a Reaction
Background:
The reaction you will be investigating is the reaction that occurs when an Alka
Seltzer tablet is placed into a given amount of water. Alka Seltzer is an over the
counter antacid and pain relief medication that is dissolved in water before it is
ingested. Each tablet contains aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), citric acid, and sodium
bicarbonate. As the tablet dissolves in water, the bicarbonate ions in the tablet react
with the hydrogen ions from the acids that are also contained in the tablet. The
carbon dioxide gas produced by the reaction is what causes the bubbling that can be
observed.

Be sure to write a detailed procedure for each lab design so that the same procedure
can be followed accurately by anyone who reads it. Include details on the setup, the
control of variables, and how the rate of each trial will be compared.
For each of your two reactions, most of the reactants and products can be difficult
to see, and concentration can be difficult to measure without the proper laboratory
equipment. Therefore, it is recommended that the volume of carbon dioxide gas
produced over a given amount of time be used to help qualitatively compare the
reaction rates of each trial. If you have another way you would like to compare rates
of this reaction, feel free to explain it thoroughly in your written lab procedure.
Be sure your instructions include multiple trials for each factor to help ensure that the
results of your investigation are more reliable.
Discussion and Conclusion:

1.What two factors did you investigate in your procedure, and why did you choose to
compare these two factors?
2.What other factors did you need to control during your investigation? Explain how
you controlled each one in your procedure.
3.What was your prediction about the results of each factor tested in your two lab
procedures? Explain your predictions based on your knowledge of the dissolving
process, collision theory, and reaction rates.

For the two years, Linda and Lester were married, he molested the kids and brutally
kicked their dog. They never said a word to their mother until Theresa the oldest
and now most damaged one left a note explaining everything that went on and she
ran away. This brought Theresa to a mental breakdown and started spiraling out of
control, her mother, Linda would find her drugged up on the streets of Detroit.
Linda leaving Lester caused the family back into poverty, they had to be evicted
out of their home and now moved back to Berkeley. Joe and Rob, the Bruce
brothers would escape the everyday horrors of reality by running off into an empty
forest a little ways from home. They dubbed this places the picker forest, the Bruce
brothers claim it was filled with spirits and ghost. Joe and his brother Rob were
walking by an abandoned house and Joe through a golf ball through a basement
window and All of a sudden, it came back up through the window and stayed right
there, right in the middle of the window, right in mid air, floating in darkness
(Bruce). Eventually Linda remarried and ended up moving to Oak Park a rougher
and more dangerous neighborhood. The older Joe and his brother got, the harder
school got, and the harder life got for them. Everyday kids would tournament,
bully and serve them the beat downs of their life. They made fun of them for not
being able to afford school lunches and the ragged clothes they wore. The Bruce
brothers began to embrace the broke life and be proud of the rust bucket they got
dropped of in at school. For them this was the start of something new, they no
longer cared what people thought of their ragged clothes they became the floobs.
Before Juggalos and scrubs they were known as the floobs, the broke boys. Rob and
Joe decided they were no longer going to take anyone s crap, if someone said
anything negative to them, they agreed to bust their grill(mouth)
The History Of Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence is a large issue in the United States today and has been for the past
couple of hundred years. It exists within all ethnicities, religions, age groups,
Cultures, sexual orientations, and time periods. According to Webster s Dictionary,
domestic violence can be best described as a pattern of abusive or violent behavior in
any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control
over another intimate partner. This includes any behaviors that manipulate, humiliate,
frighten, terrorize, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound someone. The history of
domestic violencedates back to the beginning of man. Since the beginning of time the
dominant people in society took advantage of the less skilled

The Animal Welfareact is a federal law signed in the year of 1966 to regulate the
transportation of animals from their natural habitat, limit the amount of animals
admitted to participate in research studies as well as limit those who are forced to
live in captivity of artificial habitats. While environmental laws are created to meet
the standards of animal stability, such requirements are not always met. The issue
arises when there is a trade off for animals in the black market where we see
unsustainable trading of wildlife. This is most certainly a threat to the survival of
exotic animals. Due to the regulations of the Welfare Act, it has become utilized to
take in these animals for financial trade to receive under the table profit from
abducted animals.Legitimate hunters have limitations upon how to handle abducting
these animals. Such expectations for hunting include obtaining a license to do so,
prohibiting the use of poison, or using force of an armed weapon. Over the course
of the century, being in possession of wildlife has become vital for general rural
areas who make a living from hunting and trading their cattle or priced animals for
financial stability. Commercial trade is is an international business
John Stuart Mill Utilitarianism Essay
John Stuart Mill establishes a foundation of utilitarianism to justify our actions
regarding morality. Our actions; good or bad, tend to promote human happiness or
unhappiness. When referring to good actions, for example, they tend to be rewarded
with pleasures. When one does a good deed that person feels positive about
themselves and therefore they are experiencing pleasure. Essentially, this is John
Stuart Mills foundation. In his writings, he writes, the creed which accepts as the
foundation of the morals utility or the greatest happiness principle holds that actions
are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness; wrong as they tend to
produce the reverse of happiness. (Mill, Pg. 7). Seeking for pleasures throughout our

Pleasure is something that all humans are in pursuit of and therefore it is
something we all have in common. Of course, not all pleasures are equally
desirable though. As he says, it is quite compatible with the principle of utility to
recognize the fact that some kinds of pleasures are more desirable and more
valuable than others. (Mill, Pg.8) Quality and quantity are completely separate
from one another when talking about pleasures. According to Mill though, a
pleasure should be a balance between both quantity and quality. If a human being s
quality of pleasure is not very satisfactory, he or she will be more easily satisfied in
the long run than a person that seems to have it all. Mill writes, It is better to be a
human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied
than a fool satisfied. Human beings are much more superior to animals in many
ways, but primarily in the level of intellect that we possess. A human being should
always be striving to achieve more and therefore we should not always be satisfied.
Therefore, as educated people, we should not succumb ourselves to pleasures of a
fool or an animal. We have a set of memories, beliefs, and desires that sets us apart
from animals and because of this, it is easier to satisfy a pig, for example. This
animal does not really possess a set of memories, beliefs, and desires but rather
survives through natural

Use Of Film As A Propaganda Tool
Introduction
Propaganda, can be defined as the capacity of a person to produce and disseminate
attractive and reproducible messages that once seeded they will greatly influence
human cultures.
The end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century were periods during which
propagandistic activities flourished. The development of mass media along with
unprecedented advances in transportation and communication, due to innovative new
technologies that came with industrial revolution, resulted to the formation of mass
audiences for propaganda, in all sectors and for different purposes. All different
media such as print, films, radio and television contributed to this new era, offering
their unique characteristics for exploitation. In this essay, I am going to focus on the
particular use of film as a propaganda tool.
A propaganda film, can take either the form of a documentary film production or a
fictional screenplay that aims at convincing the audience about certain issues. They
can be driven by politics, social conflicts, environmental problems or simply personal
incentives. Propagandistic content in films can be realistic so as to reflect actual
problems and/or situations or specifically formed aiming at misleading large masses
of the population on certain matters and alter their perception.
The first acknowledged propaganda film was a series of short silent films, produced
during the Spanish American war in 1898 by the Vitagraph Studios. Moreover, in
1918, Charlie

that discontinuity has more common relations to the view or theory of
existentialism. This is the belief that the existence of an individual person as a free
agent determines their own development by will. People can and will change
abruptly with or without relation to their age. The controversy over continuity and
discontinuity is the time span in which people change in their life span. I will not
argue that some individuals do in fact grow over a long steady period of time.
However, large shifts in a person s life can change them overnight as well. Both
approaches and views ultimately make up the most common human experience

He talks about how hope is distilled upon newborns as is wisdom for late adulthood.
The twelve stages each acquire a new skill as the individual develops gradually
throughout their life. This book outlines several common topics covered in the view
of continuity in development. The idea that an individual gradually learns and
develops overtime in a relatively similar way as everyone else is a vague statement
to make in a world filled with such diversity. When discussing the effects of trauma
during the life span it is important to understand the meaning of resilience in context.
Young adolescent children may seem vulnerable in comparison to adults due to the
development or lack of foundation around them. I believe a traumatic event can be
detrimental to both adolescent children and late adults. The individual s life looked
at in context is the best way to determine what is seen as maladaptive. The
existentialist view in relation to discontinuity is captured in a poem verse called

The scope of the project would be to look into the information given in the

For this data collection project, I wanted to focus on countries that came from a
wide range of economic and social backgrounds. The purpose of doing so was to
gain a better understanding on how differing histories of certain countries could
affect the answers that they responded with. The wide array of answers would better
show the diversity of these countries. I theorize that citizens in these countries will
have a high response rate of citizens who answer affirmatively to being informed.

physical punishment, he says most of the cited studies are correlational and don t
show a causal link between physical punishment and long term negative effects for
children. The studies do not discriminate well between non abusive and overly
severe types of corporal punishment, Larzelere says. You get worse outcomes from
corporal punishment than from alternative disciplinary techniques only when it is
used more severely or as the primary discipline tactic. In a meta analysis of 26
studies, Larzelere and a colleague found that an approach they described as
conditional spanking led to greater reductions in child defiance or anti social
behavior than 10 of 13 alternative discipline techniques, including reasoning,
removal of privileges and time out. Larzelere defines conditional spanking as a

communicate efficiently and manage conflict successfully is challenging. Gaining
cooperation between people is complex and mentally demanding. Communication
ways and conflict styles are deeply woven into our personalities. Conflict is the
expressed struggle of interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals,
interference from the other party in achieving those goals, and the perception of

The conflict here is that Robert s goals were to experience the freedom from his
parents and not Amy. If either had used perception checking, it is possible that their
conflict would have ended. The Attribution Theory is based upon assigning
meanings for another s behavior. What we think to be true is not always accurate. It
is necessary to implement proactive strategies such as perception checking.
Perception checking involves three components. They are as stated: 1.A complete
description of behavior observed 2.Provide two possible interpretations of the
observed behavior 3.Request for clarity In either case, both Robert and Amy entered
the termination stage together. As stated earlier and expressed here, conflict usually
occurs because of incompatible goals. Incompatible goals are often perceived in
dialectical tensions of relationships. Leslie Baxter formulated the Relationship
Dialectical Theory. Usually it is opposing tensions that bring people into conflicts in
relationships. The number one cause for break ups is the relational dialectic,
integration/separation. The two opposing forces at war are the desire to bond (Amy)
and the desire for autonomy (Robert). Dr. McKinney illustrates these tensions as a
contradiction; the idea of conflict between desires in a relationship. Mediation is a
wonderful process in negotiating a solution between two parties thwarted by

The Power Of The New Zealand Government
Cabinet has been widely thought to be the most powerful body of the New
Zealand government. This belief could have been correct some 20 odd years ago,
but has since fallen into antiquity with the introduction of the MMP voting style in
1996 (citation). In a discussion over the realistic power of Cabinet it will be found
that the creators of such a body had enough forethought to include several inarguable
weaknesses and checks so as to retain a notion of separation of powers. These
weaknesses should be both plentiful and convincing enough to leave no doubt that,
despite its obvious powers, Cabinet is still second to the supremacy of Parliament.
Firstly, Cabinet is a body of high ranking state officials that is generally made up of
heads of respective departments of government, such as the Department of Tourism
or the Department of Defense. The role of Cabinet is to act as a central decision
making body for the executive branch of the NZ government. It determines what
government bills are introduced to Parliament and effectively decides the path a
government will take during a party s regime. A captured Cabinet can therefore,
theoretically, exert the will of a powerful PM over Parliament, forcing it to pass any
Cabinet approved legislation. This was fairly common before the introduction of
MMP elections (Insert Citation). Such a dominance effectively transformed
Parliament into an extension of the executive and defeated the purpose of the
separation of powers. This,
How Did The Hippie Subculture Influence The 1960s
Among uppermost significant movment which was very closely connected with the
music of 60 s was a hippie movement or hippie subculture. Hippies made use of
music to articulate themselves on an emotional level, mentally, and also politically.
To illustrate the effect of popular music as a cultural sensation, it s neccessary to get
back prior the hippies to the Civil Rights Movement. The Beat Generation,
particularly those related to the San Francisco Awakening steadily submitted to the
60 s era counterculture, followed by a switch in terms from beatnik to freak and hippie

Drugs Essay

  • 1. Drugs Essay Writing an essay on the topic of drugs can be a challenging endeavor, as it involves navigating through a complex and controversial subject. The difficulty lies not only in presenting factual information but also in addressing the myriad perspectives and opinions surrounding drug use and abuse. Crafting a well-rounded essay requires a nuanced understanding of the social, economic, and health implications associated with drugs. Researching the topic demands a thorough examination of historical contexts, scientific studies, legal frameworks, and societal attitudes toward drugs. The vast amount of information available, ranging from the physiological effects of drugs on the human body to the socio-cultural impact of drug policies, can be overwhelming. Sorting through this wealth of data requires discernment to identify reliable sources and credible studies. The complexity of the subject matter also arises from the diverse viewpoints on drug-related issues. Different stakeholders, such as policymakers, healthcare professionals, law enforcement agencies, and advocacy groups, often have conflicting perspectives on the appropriate approach to handling drug-related problems. Balancing these conflicting views while maintaining an objective and analytical tone in the essay can be a delicate task. Furthermore, addressing the ethical aspects of drug use and its implications on individuals and society adds another layer of complexity. It requires careful consideration of personal freedoms, the role of government intervention, and the potential for unintended consequences in drug policy decisions. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of drugs demands a deep understanding of various facets of the subject, the ability to sift through a plethora of information, and the skill to present a well-reasoned and balanced argument. It is not merely about reporting facts but about navigating a complex landscape of perspectives and controversies. Despite its difficulty, a well- crafted essay on drugs can contribute meaningfully to the ongoing discourse on this multifaceted issue. • 2. Dances With Wolves Stereotypes Overcoming Stereotypes in the Movie, Dances With Wolves Everyone has a preconceived opinion of how a certain ethnic group is in terms of the way they live, the morals they hold, the way they deal with people different from them, and how they deal with one another. We come to these conclusions by what we have seen in the media, heard from other people, or actually experienced ourselves. Most people would consider these opinions to be stereotypes. Dances with Wolves is a motion picture that deals with and touches on all sides of personal stereotypes we as American and American Indianshave about each other. John Dunbar takes us through and allows us to see how it is to come into a situation he was not familiar with and then eventually the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also came across intimidated by John because of his courage through this miserable time. He saw Dunbar as someone he could never be and he didn t see his life worth living anymore. Going into the movie we did not really get a strong sense of how Dunbar thought of the Indians. While he was journeying out to the frontier Dunbar asked Timmons, a man that was taking him there, what he thought about Indians. With no hesitation at all Timmons stated that they were all thieves, murderers, and savages. Dunbar didn t ever state what he thought of the Indians. I got the impression that he really did not have an opinion about them because he has never dealt with them. He seemed like the type of guy that would not assume something without experiencing it for himself. Everyone he talked to about Indians probably said the same things Timmons did, but for some reason Dunbar was different from the rest. He seemed to be better than that. The Indians are finally presented in the movie by the screen scanning across a wide open desert very peaceful and deserted. In the middle of all this silence the camera fell upon a skeleton of a human that we assume the Indians killed. This is how the movie sets the tone for how we are going to think about the Indians. They play with the stereotype that all us Americans think are true about the Indians. At first we think that we were right, but the story does not end there. The first encounter that Dunbar has with the Indians is when

From an early age Machen was taught lessons of the bible and of Jesus. His family attended a Presbyterian church called Franklyn Street Presbyterian. In response to the changes at Princeton, Machen went on to found Westminster Theology Seminary in order to continue reformed orthodox theology. Later, in 1933, Machen , along with seven others, were suspended from the Presbyterian ministry. They went on to leave the Northern Presbyterian Church and founded the Orthodox Presbyterian church. Only a few years later, in 1937, Machen died at age 56. even though he died rather young, Machen helped shape the conservative movement against Modernists without being a true fundamentalist. His books, sugh as his textbook on New Testament Greek, are still used today in modern seminaries. (Haykin) Machen s thoughts about society and Christianity can be found in many of his own books. The book I found most useful was entitled What is Faith?. Unlike fundamentalists, Machen believed that education was highly important in society; yet, he still thought that the most significant part of Christianity was not throught the church or school. In the introduction of what is Faith? Machen explains: The most important Christian educational institution is not the

  • 6. Nature And Nurture In George BпїЅchner s Woyzeck Nature, Nurture, and The Forgotten Third Option: A Director s Perspective on Woyzeck Stella Adler, famous actress and acting teacher once stated that the theatre was created to tell people the truth about life and the social situation. Woyzeck by Georg BГјchner is a play that perfectly represents Adler s view on theatre. The plot of the play revolves around a troubled lower class man named Woyzeck, who ultimately murders his lover, Marie. But it is not merely the plot that makes this play align with Adler s view, rather, it is the naturalistic style of the Woyzeck. Naturalistic theatre examines the human psyche and how one is influenced by nature and nurture. Through BГјchner s use of plot structure and thought, Woyzeck will be directed in a manner that makes the audience realize that human behavioris not simply a byproduct of nature versus nurture, that there is indeed a third option: self will. Firstly, our production s primary theatrical aspect is our plot structure. We begin Woyzeck with scene twenty nine. Not only does the stage directions describing Woyzeck s character lend this scene to be the first, the policeman s dialogue further supports this change. The policeman repeats the word murder, therefore, there is no mystery behind who was murdered (Marie) and who murdered her (Woyzeck). Rather, the mystery becomes why Woyzeck murders Marie. Our stasis includes scenes twenty nine, two, three, one, four, five, and eight in that order. The stasis therefore sets up

Many suffer from this disease, and it is becoming more common. In my life I know of two family members who have diabetes. It doesn t seem like diabetes is a big deal, but it actually is life threatening to some. Diabetes doesn t just occur in certain people. It can be diagnosed to anybody, but more commonly in obese people. As of 2015, 30.3 million Americans had diabetes (CDC Newsroom). Some causes of diabetes is obesity, and family history. A test you can get done to see if you have diabetes is an A1C test. An A1C test measures the percentage of blood sugar attached to hemoglobin. If your blood sugar is high then more sugar will be attached to the hemoglobin. 5.7 is a normal A1C level. If your A1C level comes back 6.5 or higher you will be diagnosed with diabetes. It is better to get a test done by a professional, rather than just trying to do the test

Police officers aren t high schoolers, they have strictly enforced laws about privacy. They aren t allowed, without authorization of the sheriff, to reveal that recorded information. As a family most of our free time is spent listening to the dispatch radio to see what they have to deal with. Body cameras would help bring a sense of comfort to families with officers, knowing that if something would happen to them that there is evidence of everything that happened. A lot of departments claim that the cost is huge factor, which is understandable for cities like LA or Chicago or even Fort Wayne. A lot of people don t realize how many officers some cities have, for example, Fort Wayne has approximately 1,800 officers (Garry Hamilton, FWPD Chief). If a camera is $300, that s $540,000; that s fourteen brand new 2016 Dodge Chargers (standard issued patrol car). In reality, who wouldn t go with the new patrol cars? The Alamo was an emblem of leadership and sacrifice displayed in a stand of fearlessness. Though under provisioned in all areas in men, in food, in arms, and especially in protection the men standing in defense of the Alamo resolved to give their all and sacrifice their lives to secure Texas independence. Despite their courage, bravery, and greatest efforts, the Alamo was a demoralizing loss to both Texas and to the nation. In retaliation to this crushing overthrow, and the loss in valor, Sam Houston and his army took revenge for the souls slain and the lives given in defense of the Alamo in the following battle of the Runaway Scrape. Though outnumbered by Santa Ana s army almost 6 1, Sam Houston and 800 men, each filled with reprisal, swept through the Mexican army and slayed almost the entire force in a matter of nearly 18 minutes. Though vengeance was taken and independence secured, nothing would fill the void of the souls lost in the Alamo. The Alamo was and is a symbol: It is an icon of resistance and determination, of generations past, and more importantly, to the generation of today s nation. It was the leadership, it was the will, and it was the sacrifice of the Alamo, which gained true independence for Texas. Remember the

Naplan Test Paper Introduction I was quite confident in completeing the compulsory NAPLAN Year 9 questions, I have a high level of understanding in the three numeracy strands ( Numeracy, 2016) covered in the test and the questions that were selected cover the range of topics. The NAPLAN test is a compulsory test that enables the assessment of students from years three to nine, which provides statistical analysis to ensure the students are meeting the relevant educational outcomes for their year. Question 1 My confidence in completing this question was quite high, as the cubes are clearly visible and the top view, or plan view is identifiable by the white top section of each cube, with the sides being grey or shadowed to show a diferent side in a three dimensional drawing ( Isometric ... To calculate the mean involve adding all the costs up before the 3d movie ($41) and dividing them by the total number of tickets (4) which equals $10.25, using the same steps to find the mean after the 3d movie is $75/ 5 movies = $15 a difference of $4.75. To find the range the numbers need to be aligned numerically, 8, 10, 10, 13, Subtract 8 from 13 leaves the range of 5, if the 3d movie ticket price is added into the list 8, 10, 10, 13, 34, subtract 8 from 34 leaving the range after the 3d movie of 26. Again to find the median it is essential to align the numbers numerically, 8, 10, 10, 13 is and equal number therfore we must use addition to calculate the two middle numbers (10+10) and divide this by two, (10+10)2 which equals $10 if the 3d movie ticked is added into the equation 8, 10, 10, 13, 34 the median is still

AP Biology Lab Report: How the Amount of Motor Oil Affects Hatching Viability of Brine Shrimp Eggs Question How does the amount of motor oil in the environment of a brine shrimp affect the hatching viability of brine shrimp eggs? Hypothesis If hatching viability is affected by the amount of motor oil in the environment of the brine shrimp eggs, then when the amount of motor oil is increased the hatching viability will decrease. Experimental Design The independent variable was the amount of motor oil in 2% salt solution because it is the variable that was being tested and purposefully manipulated. The dependent variable was the hatching viability of the brine shrimp tested (which was calculated by adding the number of brine shrimp swimming at 24 hours to the number of brine shrimp swimming at 48 hours, and then divided by the total number of eggs initially placed in the petri dish). The control group was a petri dish of brine shrimp in 30 ml of 2% salt solution with no motor oil. The constants, or variables that need to be controlled, were the salinity percentage of the salt solution (2%), the amount of salt solution in each petri dish (30 ml), the total time the brine shrimp were left in the petri dishes (48 hours), and the frequency of when the brine shrimp were checked (every 24 hours). Procedure Materials: Approximately 100 brine shrimp eggs Scissors Pipet Paintbrush 5 microscope slides 1 stereomicroscope 5 pieces of double sided tape 5 petri dishes Permanent marker

Forman does not want to mess the minds of the spectators (with Nurse Ratched s suppressed woman ness) and danger marginalizing the significance of the fight of the patients, which is the center of the movie. Randall delicately develops relationships with the other patients and encourages them to think for themselves. Questions On Design Of Technical Systems Essay Isaac Mathew Pavoodath USC ID 8834875144 AME 503 Paper Study 2 INTRODUCTION As specified in the paper Complexity in Design of Technical Systems, an exact definition to the meaning of the word complexity is a matter of debate and discussion. It is not to be mistaken for anything but the complexity involved while designing or modifying a technical system or rather an engineering system. The paper is vigorous in mentioning the existence of two main complexities that needs special attention dawned upon them while designing the system viz. inborn complication and acquired complication. Inborn complications are dictated by the customer needs that have been considered for the design, they may not be varied or dealt with as stated by Nam Pyo Suh however the sphere of influence of the designer is within the reaches of the acquired complexity. Acquired complexity may be kept to a minimal low if the designer of the system carefully understands the inter relations, functional dependency and the physical probabilities involved, but at the same time the inborn complication should also be kept at its lowest possible level based on Customer Requirements (CR). It is most likely that the readers get confused between Suh s Axiomatic Design Theory and Complexity Theory , although they seem to be intertwined into each other s concepts it is obvious through deeper study that the former focuses on functional dependency and the later primarily on physical probability UNDERSTANDING

For the first few moments after waking up I didn t know why I set an alarm so early, then it hit me, my Eagle Scout Project is today. After getting up and getting in the car with my dad to go to the worksite early to set up, I saw the footbridge we would be repairing for my project. The footbridge was damaged in a recent flood and half of it was washed away, so it was unusable. If people wanted to go across the small river, they had to walk on a slippery tree that had fallen over during the flood.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first people were the representatives from Holliday Nature Preserve that helped me design the new part of the footbridge. They went down to the worksite to get the blueprints out and more people came to help. After about 20 minutes of people showing up and taking their tools down to the worksite, it was finally time to begin construction. The repair will be extending the bridge 16 feet to the top of the river bank with three 16 foot beams. Luckily there were many adults that could help lift the heavy beams into place because the young scouts wouldn t be able to lift them on their own. While the adults did all the heavy lifting, I had the younger scouts work on digging water bars into the hill to stop further erosion of the river bank. The task of digging a hole for a 2x4 didn t seem like a problem for the scouts, so I went to check on the footbridge. Coming down from the hill where the water bars were being placed, I could hear all the power tools like drills and saws being used to construct the walkway connecting the bridge to land. After watching everyone work together and have a good time, I decided to help saw the floor planks for the walkway. For about 15 minutes of sawing and talking to the adults that were taking a quick break themselves, I felt that the footbridge was coming along exactly as planned and I went to check the scouts. I didn t expect the water bars to take along time to dig and I was right

The investigation was also based on and how changes in Reynolds number affect the velocity distribution within boundary layers. Parameters such as the Momentum Thickness, Displacement Thickness, Shape Factor, shear stress and coefficient of friction was also calculated to gain a better understand of boundary layers. [5] The boundary layer can also be measured by other factors. One factor is the Displacement Thickness, Оґ*. It is defined as the distance by which the free streamlines are displaced in the y direction due to the formation of the boundary layer. The formation of the boundary layer reduces the mass flow rate per unit area. This is because near the surface the molecules are travelling slower, meaning less flow rate per unit area is going out compared to coming in. In order to compensate for this loss in mass flow rate, the external streamlines (free streamlines) will be displaced. The distance it displaced is the Оґ*. [5] When deriving this equation it is assumed the flow is incompressible and steady. Another factor is the Momentum Thickness, Пґ. It is defined as the thickness of a layer of freestream fluid carrying a momentum flow rate equal to the reduction in momentum flow rate caused by the formation of the boundary layer. Closer to the surface of the object, the flow is slower. This means that the momentum is also slower. Пґ is a measurement of the compensation that makes us the momentum flow rate that was lost due to the formation of the boundary layer. The momentum thickness is useful in determining the skin friction drag on a surface. [5] When deriving this equation it is assumed the flow is incompressible and steady. Momentum Thickness is an indication of Drag. Two parameters that

  • 20. Analysis Of Dorothea Tanning s Birthday Being associated with the surrealist movement, and more specifically, an elite group of surrealists, Dorothea Tanning stands out. Her desire to create both poetry and paintings which can be interpreted as having no exit, is what makes her works different from other surrealists. With the ambition to create a piece that is interpreted as having no exit, Dorothea Tanning s Birthday, 1942 the paintingexemplifies an illusion of power and isolation. This self portrait, Birthday by Dorothea Tanning is amongst her first works. Kimmelman referred to the painting saying, Birthday is one of Dorothea Tanning s earliest works, and is considered her first mature painting (Kimmelman 1). She painted her self portrait while she was in New York. It caught the eyeof her future husband, Max Ernstand sparked his initial attention to her. In fact, Max Ernst suggested the name Birthday for this piece. The unique aspects that Dorothea Tanning incorporates into this painting such as, the unconscious as a reality, and relationships with the unnatural, inspired her later works. They also flag her as a surrealist, being a surrealist and having a fixation on the mind, Tanning is able to use her preoccupation with eroticism to create exciting, dramatic imagery to display passages from one reality to another (Grimberg 59). Her fixation on the mind, is evident in this painting when she creates a relationship between viewers and the woman in the self portrait. Birthday from 1942, is an oil on canvas self portrait. The painting s prominent subject is a woman who is standing alone to the left of the canvas. She is dressed uniquely in a dark brown ruffled skirt that reaches all the way to her calves. On the sides of her skirt, there is an abundance of vine like roots overflowing from the back towards the front. Her top is an open, purple, green, and white decorative jacket; revealing her bosom, chest, and some of her torso. With tuition costs rising, more students are borrowing to pay for college education today. However, not all students realize the burden of paying back their student loans. Many are defaulting. Moreover, individual borrowers are not the only ones who face the consequences of the loan default. The federal government recovers around 80% of the total defaulted amount of student loans, losing billions of dollars each year. The latest data from the U.S. Department of Education indicates that student loan default rates have been rising. Official 2011 default rate is 10%. ( Comparison of FY 2011 2 Year... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Borrowers do not have power over the maximum amount they can borrow, over the interest rate, over anything in fact. However, at the time of enrollment, loan is not a real thing for the borrowers, as they do not have to worry about paying it back right away. They face problems when they need help repaying the loans or cannot repay the loans. Then, they have a legitimate and urgent issue to deal with, but still no power. So the borrowers are moderately salient or expectant stakeholders (Mitchell, Agle, and Wood 853 86). They can only choose from the available repayment options or default on their loans. Another group of stakeholders is the schools. Loan servicers monitor when students do not make payments on their loans and go into default and report it to the school and the department of education. At this point, the school tries to reach the student and explain to them existing repayment plans or forbearance options. If the student does not sign the repayment plan or the forbearance, the loan is reported on a cohort default rate. (Default cohort consists of loans that go into the repayment during a single federal fiscal year (from Oct 1 to Sept 30). There are 2 year and 3 year default cohort periods). If the reported school default rate gets to 25% in 3 consecutive years or 40% in one year, the college could lose eligibility to participate in the Direct Loan program, and in most cases, the Federal Pell Grant program. Discussing The First World War When discussing the First World War, there are a myriad of topics, theories and debates that can be brought up, especially when its regarding to its breakout and and what lead to it. There are multiple direct and indirect causes that all are interconnected with one another, making it very difficult to just discuss about one topic without it overlapping with another completely different topic. One of the most unquestionable causes that lead to the outbreak of the war was the alliance system that was active in the early twentieth century and that was however set into motion well before in the mid nineteenth century. The alliance system can be viewed as major causes from two main different perspectives; it can be considered as a immediate cause or as a indirect background cause. However, the existence of the alliances is crucial to the bringing about of the first world war from both perspectives The existence of the multiple alliances and treaties is considered as a major immediate and direct cause to the bringing about of the First World War because it turned a conflict between two countries that could ve been easily contained into a full scale world war that involved multiple countries. In his speech Frederick Douglas speaks heavily on the subject of abolitioning slavery. Frederick Douglas provides comparisons and analogies, appeals to the audience s logic, and appeals to the audience s emotion in order to convince the audience to more vigorously fight for the abolition of slavery. Douglas provides comparisons between the founding fathers and the abolition movement. He does this by using antithesis when he brings up that To side with the right, against the wrong, with the weak against the strong, and with the oppressed against the oppressor! is what the founding fathers had to do in order to fight against the oppression of Britain. Frederick Douglas use of antithesis explains to the audience that the abolitionist movement may be fighting the losing side, but they are fighting for the good of the country. The abolitionists and its supporters are led to believe that the founding fathers faced the same odds and situation. The audience likely feels inspired to fight more vigorously for the oppressed due to the fact that they admire the founding fathers greatly. Frederick Douglas again supports this comparison through the use of asyndeton. When Douglas says the founding fathers fought the oppression of Britain by Fully appreciating the hardship to be encountered,

Physical attractiveness is especially important to men choosing a prospective sexual partner or mate, as shown by research in many cultures. People with more sexist beliefs about gender role ideologies prefer partners who have traditional masculine/feminine qualities (Crawford, 2012). As the shop owner of a cafe in a quiet part of Singapore that serves a range of snacks, simple meals and non alcoholic beverages, the competition from these global brands may signal the beginning of the end unless aggressive marketing steps are taken today. To this end, this paper provides a review of the relevant peer reviewed and scholarly literature to develop a marketing plan for such a cafГ© in Singapore, followed by a summary of the research and important findings in the conclusion. Review and Discussion Marketing plans for small companies should include a positioning statement that is congruent with their business plans and address segmentation in order to effectively target their market (Solomon, 2011). The positioning statement for the Singapore cafГ© in question would therefore emphasize world class customer service as a way to differentiate this small business from encroachments by competitors such as Starbucks and McDonalds. Fortunately, this aspect of the marketing plan can be highly

It might be the walk, the talk, or maybe favoritism is on their side. The relationships with the manager personally and in the workplace seems to be becoming obvious that it s the boss favorite. With all the issues favoritism can have in a workplace like, age, race, disability, etc. There is a purpose to having favoritism since can be a good strategy to motivate workers to do their best. It can also show that the person worked hard to be in the positioning there are in. The main point is knowing the difference between productive and negative favoritism in order to adjust/take action to become the best we can be. Favoritism is something in the workplace and in everyday life would make things seem unfair. It would make gals to reach not equally possible when, when certain employees already has a halo effect from the managers. This can occur in all workplaces but most of the time in organizations like warehouses and big companies that needs thousands of people in order to reach goals. Even though it s almost human nature to have favoritism in the workplace, it is also avoidable to make it evenly fair among all the employees to have an opportunity to move up in positions. I believe favoritism is part of Human Resource Management because it needs to be manage to favor all employees. • 35. The Dolly Suite Essay Gabriel Faure (12 May 1845 4 Nov 1924) The Dolly Suite is a collection of six short piano duets. It was inspired and composed for Helene, nicknamed Dolly , the daughter of singer Emma Bardac, with whom Faure was intimately associated in the 1890s. This suite was composed and revised between 1893 to 1896. Berceuse (a Lullaby) is the first in the suite, and was a present for Helene s first birthday. It has a soothing melody over a gently rocking accompaniment, that hints at a cradle song. The other 5 movements of the suite titled Mi a ou , Le jardin de Dolly , Kitty Valse , Tendresse , and Le Pas Espagnol respectively, were given on other separate occasions to mark special occasions and other birthdays in Helene s life. Berceuse was chosen as the signature theme song for the long running BBC home service programme, Listen with Mother , and though Faure usually favoured strictly functional titles, since the six movements were personal gifts, they were given whimsical titles associated with Dolly and her family. The suite is Faure s only significant composition for a piano duet, and was first premiered by Alfred Cortot and Edouard Risler in 1898. Moritz Moszkowski (23 Aug 1854 4 Mar 1925) ... Our actions; good or bad, tend to promote human happiness or unhappiness. When referring to good actions, for example, they tend to be rewarded with pleasures. When one does a good deed that person feels positive about themselves and therefore they are experiencing pleasure. Essentially, this is John Stuart Mills foundation. In his writings, he writes, the creed which accepts as the foundation of the morals utility or the greatest happiness principle holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness; wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness. Pleasure is something that all humans are in pursuit of and therefore it is something we all have in common. Of course, not all pleasures are equally desirable though. As he says, it is quite compatible with the principle of utility to recognize the fact that some kinds of pleasures are more desirable and more valuable than others. (Mill, Pg.8) Quality and quantity are completely separate from one another when talking about pleasures. According to Mill though, a pleasure should be a balance between both quantity and quality. If a human being s quality of pleasure is not very satisfactory, he or she will be more easily satisfied in the long run than a person that seems to have it all. Mill writes, It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied. Human beings are much more superior to animals in many ways, but primarily in the level of intellect that we possess. A human being should always be striving to achieve more and therefore we should not always be satisfied. Therefore, as educated people, we should not succumb ourselves to pleasures of a fool or an animal. We have a set of memories, beliefs, and desires that sets us apart from animals and because of this, it is easier to satisfy a pig, for example. This animal does not really possess a set of memories, beliefs, and desires but rather survives through natural

The development of mass media along with unprecedented advances in transportation and communication, due to innovative new technologies that came with industrial revolution, resulted to the formation of mass audiences for propaganda, in all sectors and for different purposes. The controversy over continuity and discontinuity is the time span in which people change in their life span. I will not argue that some individuals do in fact grow over a long steady period of time. When discussing the effects of trauma during the life span it is important to understand the meaning of resilience in context. Young adolescent children may seem vulnerable in comparison to adults due to the development or lack of foundation around them. I believe a traumatic event can be detrimental to both adolescent children and late adults. The individual s life looked at in context is the best way to determine what is seen as maladaptive. They are as stated: 1.A complete description of behavior observed 2.Provide two possible interpretations of the observed behavior 3.Request for clarity In either case, both Robert and Amy entered the termination stage together. As stated earlier and expressed here, conflict usually occurs because of incompatible goals. Incompatible goals are often perceived in dialectical tensions of relationships. Leslie Baxter formulated the Relationship Dialectical Theory. Usually it is opposing tensions that bring people into conflicts in relationships. The number one cause for break ups is the relational dialectic, integration/separation. The two opposing forces at war are the desire to bond (Amy) and the desire for autonomy (Robert). Dr. McKinney illustrates these tensions as a contradiction; the idea of conflict between desires in a relationship.
