women, female or male, and masculine and feminine. Two distinct categories (slide
5). The Western society mostly see gender as binary, black and white. However,
Baird writes in Transgender: as the stars in the sky that most of us are culturally
heavily conditioned to categorize sex and gender in this binary, dimorphic way.
But actually, life and nature are a lot more complex than that (pg 113). Professor
Davis exemplifies binary gender in the Western culture using public restroom as an
example. She explains that an individual must identify themselves with a stick

For the second restaurant, it was a pretty good one like the first one. I d have to
say the thing I liked the most about it was the dessert. I new I had to get a dessert
because I haven t got a dessert all trip and the waitress recommended it so why not.
I was very full from what I had to eat before but when the menu said the ice cream
was the top in the country I knew it had to be somewhat good. It s costed $10 but
was the best ice cream I ve probably ever ate. Zach said the same but London, Drew,
and Chris were to full to eat dessert. Overall the food wasn t as good as Ficus
Restaurante but both were delicious.

Surprising Gang Myth
From my perspective, the most surprising gang myth was that gangs, drugs, and
violence were linked. I was under the impression that gangs made their income from
the sale and distribution of drugs to fund their activities. It was unique in that
Coughlin and Venkatesh (2003) actually stated that drugs were secondary to that of
identity, protection, and recreation (28). Though from just these two chapters, I can
see there is a pattern to why youth join gangs and the gangs desire for identity as a

When I woke up that Tuesday morning in 7th grade, I thought it would be like any
other day, until my head started excruciatingly pounding. Even worse, it didn t go
away. Something was wrong. Prior to this, I was a relatively healthy child. I

whether I was overreacting, since few people other than my family believed me. It
