Throughout Wool, The dispossessed and Pattern recognition, we are exposed to
many female characters in these novels. Although science fiction has long been
defined as a genre dominated by men, it is so surprising to see that women character
has played dominate roles in these novels. The impact of women on these novels can
be clearly observed, but each book depicts women character so differently that made
me curious about knowing further about women s status and roles play in society and
how they change over time.
To start with The Dispossessed, which published 1974, tells the story of the two
worlds, Anarres and Urras, which are very different from each other. The passage
marks a series of gendered differences between the two societies: the people live and

I think this kind of supporting ideas makes this article more effective on the reader
and makes them agree with the author because it gives something for the reader to
relate to. For example, according to Giese (2015) a fourteen year old boy in
Norway was hospitalized with kidney failure after consuming four liters of energy

On April 18, 1906 a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck the city of San Francisco,
California at 5:18 in the morning. Major fires followed the quake, and burned down
the city for several days, as the firefighters had no water source to kill the fires. How
did this earthquake happen? The answer: The 1906 earthquakeoccurred because of
movement along the San Andreas Fault. Earthquakes are constantly happening in
different places and because of various reasons. Scientists are constantly working to
understand earthquakes and the reasons for their occurrences. Although some people
think earthquakes have simple causes, they may be interested to know that

Fracking is the process in which large amounts of water, sand, and other chemicals
are injected into rock formations in order to release natural gases. Scientists believe
that this process of injecting wastewater underground activates dormant faults.
Although earthquakes from this process are rare, they are largely increasing in
number and magnitude throughout the United States. For example, Oklahoma s
seismic activity was seventy times greater in 2013 than before 2008. Before those
years, Oklahoma had an average of one and a half earthquakes with a magnitude
three or greater each year. Currently, Oklahoma has an average of two and a half
earthquakes everyday with a magnitude of three or greater. Fracking is a very

But, in Braid the platform is split into two levels, top navigated by the princess and
the bottom navigated by the player and the princess is running to the right away
from the monster. Both the player and the princess help each other overcome
obstacle by pulling levers, consequently allowing both to progress to the right, all
while a wall of fire is chasing the player on the left. Once both reach the end of the
run, the screen flashes and the window of princess room changes to a wall leaving
the player in a paradoxical situation. The player is left with no other choice but to
rewind, initiating a sequence that displays the complete run in reverse. In the end,
the player emerges from the left side of the screen which was previously covered
with darkness, and now free to do anything. Concluding that the narrative twist in
the last world is entirely dependent on the manipulation of the motion. Meaning the
flow of world time in world 1 links to the flow of story time. Therefore, in terms of
the narrative, it implies that moving forwards from the first door to the next in
world 1, the player is moving backward. According to the interpretation of the
reverse run (world 1), it shows that the princess was trying to evade the player and
also showing the obsession of the player over her which caused her to leave him. It
also shows whatever happened in world 1 is what really happened in the game
world that the player s time manipulation mechanic is the player reimagining his life
choices in his mind. For instance, we bake stories in our mind about how certain
situations could have unfolded differently if we had said something or did something

In Milton Friedman s story, The Relation Between Economic Freedom and
Political Freedom, he speaks about what a free society should consist of, One
feature of a free society is surely the freedom of individuals to advocate and
propagandize openly for a radical change in the structure of the society so long as
the advocacy is restricted to persuasion and does not include force or other forms
of coercion. (Friedman 63). The American democracy system revolutionized
politics into what we know it to be today. A government of the people, by the
people, for the people, was never made imaginable before America; but like all
good things, overtime it can become corrupted. An ideal society would truly be
what the people wanted. Democracy is by far the best political system that could
be implemented, but there could be improvements. I do not believe being a
politician should be a career choice, but it should be more of a duty to your
country. We place trust in our governments to decide such things as going to war,
healthcare, and overall the decisions that affect our lives. In order to make a proper
decision on sending troops to war, I believe the decision makers should have had
military experience. It is impossible to ask someone to go risk their lives when you
have no idea the feeling or sacrifice they could possibly make. All members of the
legislative branch, and the President, should be required to have served their
country. Moreover, in an ideal society it s politicians would be held accountable
for their actions. For example, during a review at your workplace, if your
employer tells you that your satisfaction or approval rating is less than fifty percent
by your peers, what do you think would happen to you? More than likely you

54. Theatrical Mask Analysis
When we were presented with the task of creating a theatrical mask, that revealed
something about ourselves, for our midterm I had no clue what I was going to do.
Through lots of brainstorming I came up with the idea of having half of my mask
be Glinda the Good Witch, from Wicked and Wizard of Oz, and the other half be
Elphaba, or the Wicked Witch of the West, from the same shows. My first reason for
choosing this design was the fact that it reveals my love for the theatre, and musicals

In 2005 approximately 69 million people in the United States were under the age
of 18. The projected juvenile population is expected to reach 74 million by 2015.
Violence itself is not a disorder. It can be one of a number of behaviors used to
diagnose mental illness based on severity and circumstance. (Bilderya 2) Childrenand
teens are becoming more and more violent, committing more crimes, and doing
excessive amounts of drugs. This is a major issue because these kids are the next
generation. Crimes of violence among youth can include fighting, rape, and robbery.
Juveniles between the ages of 12 and 17 are more likely to be victims of these
significantly correlated with mental illnesses. (Bilderya 1) Juvenile crimestems from
mostly mental and physiological reasoning, from watching parents fight, repeating
what is said around the house to just down right low grades., resulting in higher crime
rates among adolescents.
Delinquency is a rising problem right here in the Michigan, and research shows that
most juvenile delinquency comes from issues and illnesses in the brain. What
children see/hear at a young age can very well affect them later in life. Poor role
modeling or mistreatment by parents such as abusive behavior or neglect can start
