Social Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird
Justice has long been considered something that is important to the success of a society.
However justice in itself is something that is hard to achieve. Recently in the news, a story has
arisen regarding a father who was not able to afford a lawyer, due to this he was not able to see his
kids for five years. This is what some people would call political injustice, a case in which
someone s given rights have been ignored. This is very common despite people saying that justice
should be given to all people. Social injustice is a case in which people are affected by less
government and law related issues, including, environmental rights, civil rights, and an access to
education. This can be also seen clearly in To Kill A Mockingbird
by Harper Lee. Through the
society that Harper Lee portrays in her novel she suggests that justice is something worth fighting
for. Examples of both social and polГtical injustice becomes apparent.
Social injustice is a common theme throughout the novel. This can appear in cases of stereotypes.
Many people in the town of Maycomb have families that are over generalized. Such as the
Cunninghams, who never took anything they can t pay back. (Lee 26). However some of these
stereotypes are very inaccurate. For instance, Walter Cunningham went to dinner with the Finches,
this was something that he could not pay back, but he did it anyway. Or when Scout was able to
help snap Mr.Cunningham back to reality when he was trying to intimidate Atticus.

Energy Detection Based Spectrum Sensing Method
In energy detector, the received signal is first filtered with a band pass filter in bandwidth to
normalize the noise variance and to limit the noise power. The output signal is then squared and
integrated as follows: for each in phase or quadrature component, a number of samples over a
time interval are squared and summed. The conventional energy detection method assumes that
the primary user signal is either absent or present and the performance degrades when the
primary user is absent and then suddenly appears during the sensing time. An adaptive method
to improve the performance of Energy detection based spectrum sensing method is proposed .In
this proposal, a side detector is used which continuously monitor the spectrum so as to improve
the probability of detection. The Primary user uses a QPSK signal with a 200 kHz band pass
bandwidth (BW). The sampling frequency is 8 times the signal BW. A 1024 point FFT is used to
calculate the received signal energy. Simulation results showed that when primary users appear
during the sensing time, the conventional energy detector has lower probability of detection as
compared to the proposed detector. The performance of energy detector is characterized by
Receiver Operating curves usually. AOC (Area under the Receiver Operating curves) is used to
analyze the performance of the energy detector method over Nakagami fading channels. Results
showed that a higher value of fading parameter leads to larger average AUC, and

Explain Why the Hispanic Vote Is Becoming More Important...
Explain why the Hispanic vote is becoming more important in US elections (10 marks)
Hispanics are a growing group in the USA in terms of politics, this can be seen through
demographics, according to the 2000 census, they did form 12% of the population, but by the
2010 census this figure has increased over 16% (51 million people) this was due to immigration
and birth rates, therefore over the years they have become more influential as they are now a larger
proportion or the electorate.
Furthermore, because they are a young group and a significant proportion are not yet of voting age,
with one quarter of Hispanics being under 18, Their full political importance is yet to show as they
have not yet acquired the right to vote, which is one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be due to George D. Bush though, as in the 2000 he made a significant effort to pitch for
the Hispanic vote, with the help of him speaking fluent Spanish. However, in 2012 these figures
went down to 27%. With 71% of the Hispanic population supporting Obama and the Democratic
beliefs such as rights for ethnic minorities, welfare and supporters of the dream act allowing for
naturalisation. There was also evidence of the alienation of this group however, by Romney in
2012, whose reference to self deportation and anti immigration views in the campaign is thought to
have affected his chances of winning in several states and for some future Republicans in their
campaigns. But, Hispanics did help push Republicans to victory in a few 2014 races, as when Cory
Gardner ousted Colorado Senator.
When looking at political campaigns in recent years there has been increasing evidence in the
parties campaigns for the support of this racial group as they are being targeted in the campaigns
in a strategic manner, by campaigning in Spanish or supporting citizenship, or heavy focus on
Hispanic candidates from the parties for examples the Republican focus was on candidates such as
Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
It is true that the Hispanic population, at 53 million, is still much smaller than the non Hispanic
population, at around 260 million. But it s also a population that represents a massive opportunity
for either party. In

Application Of Free Space Optics
Introduction
Free Space Optics is an advance technology used to transmit data from one point to another using
light a medium. This technology has emerged in 1960 s and has been advanced day by day. This
has become the advanced and mostly used because of the data rates and the bandwidths provided by
this type of communication. This is now mostly used for connecting different LANs and also used
in satellite communication. There are many wireless technologies like Bluetooth, infrared and
many others but this technology has the capability of replacing all those technologies. This FSO
communication is mostly used because of its security reasons.
Fiber optical link communication has been the best kind of transmission in this era however this
FSO communication additionally supplanted this fiber optic communication in numerous
territories. As this is a remote innovation, it has the favorable circumstances when contrasted with
wired advances. As we have an advancement of innovations like RF Wireless transmission over the
wireless transmissions, electrical sign transmission over copper and coaxial links, light
transmission over optical fiber links and now this Free Space Optics technology has advanced. This
optical system has the capacity of convey the voice, feature and information over light flags. As the
technology included in optical fiber is comparative yet in that kind of communication, optical
strands are utilized and the methodology of Total Internal Reflection (TIR) is

Double In Gothic Literature Analysis
In literary criticism, the term double is defined as literary device that is used to directly
compare, and contrast, the familiar with the strange. Often, doubles are used in pieces of
literature to examine character traits, both positive and negative, as they are easier to identify
and analyze when presented in two different lights. Another, perhaps more identifiable, word for
double is doppelganger. The word doppelganger means look alike, or more literally, double
walker. Doubles are meant to bear striking physical similarities, if they do not look exactly
identical. Often meeting one s double brings about a certain realization of self. Doubles are often
prevalent in gothic literature, where strangeness and freakishness are two defining characteristics of
the genre. These two adjectives can also, very neatly, describe... Show more content on

The mere thought of having a physical double can be jarring or shocking. Meeting that double is
another idea all together. It is not something that most of us can fathom. However, it is the
strangeness or implausibility of this idea that makes it so intriguing. Something that so many
are eager to play with, especially in modern media. While the gothic genre has lost popularity in
recent years, mostly due to the fact its popularity stemmed from the ease in which it gave
authors to socially criticize the Victorian government, that does not mean the idea of the double
has gone obsolete. In fact, doubleness has gained a considerable amount of popularity in modern
media. Television shows like Orphan Black, The Vampire Diaries, Ringer, and many more focus
primarily on the idea of doubleness and what it means for the characters. The consequences of
having a double and the realization of self it brings about are at the forefront of the plots for these
television shows and many more. This essay will focus on doubleness in popular media,
particularly in terms of the quote from the Conrad piece, The Secret

Analysis Of Ian Mcewan s Atonement
Any author can understand the challenges the writing process presents. Writing is never an easy
task to achieve. Out of the many essential qualities that encompass the basics of a good novel,
what separates the elite writers from the rest, is their ability to effectively use literary devices to
shape the reader s understand and attitudes towards the central issues of the novel. As the author of a
novel they are inclined to covey a complete story and as a result their world filled with adventure
and wonderful characters should serve as the reader s guide in showcasing the author s true
intentions of the novels meaning. The novel Atonement is a prime example where the author Ian
McEwan, transports the reader into a fictionnarrative that demonstrates literary devices effortlessly.
Within my analysis I hope to highlight McEwan s use of metaphors, setting, and dynamic
characters just as he demonstrated in Atonement. In the process, I will identify why McEwan s
desire to create a structure of words and literary devices to run side by side with the McEwan s
theme of guilt and atonement is vital to the understanding author s intentions and to shape our
understanding of the novel s truest meaning. Section 1 In Atonement, McEwan writes with such
uniqueness and purpose that his desire to communicate a deeper message can often be overlooked
as a nicely worded sentence and without an analysis of these patterns and reference to phrases the
reader could miss McEwan s moral

Thomas King Baby In The Airmail Box Summary
The Baby in the Airmail Box by Thomas King is a delightful read with underlining issues of
race, and social criticism. From two perspectives the story is narrated by Bob and Linda the
Alberta Child Placement Agency and Orena from the Rocky Creek First Nations. Through the
various perspectives King establishes a juxtaposition and parallel shift in society, while
incorporating satire and irony to expose, express and criticize what society called the Sixties
Scoop. With this being said, readers acknowledge King s use of satire, irony and opinions of raceto
create a humorous social critique. King s use of satire and irony allows him to create a

The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Giver is a Utopian and Dystopian fiction ; Meaning that the book starts off in a community
where everything is idealistic yet as the story progresses, the setting appears to be an

community where everyone is assigned a role at Twelve . Jonas is selected for the role Receiver of

Teaching 10th Grade Analysis
The thirteen year old brain is not over the hill. It is just discovering the higher peaks of thinking.
(Peter Lorain) I couldn t agree with Lorain more. The reason why I love teaching 10th grade is
because I can see first hand the transition my students undergo from children, to young adults.
Lorain states that during the adolescent years, children begin developing skills in deductive
reasoning, problem solving, and generalizing (Lorain). Not only are students interpreting
information on a deeper level, but during this time they are also learningto control their impulses.
What I have observed in the past 3 years is this trend where students enter the 10th grade super

like to take full credit and say that most of this is due to providing students with predictable and
safe environments so that they can take risks, explore, and grow , but I know that the child s
development also plays a larger role. When a teacher can incorporate routines in their classroom and
foster a positive and welcoming learning environment, they are ultimately capitalizing on the

Pros And Cons Of Authoritarian Leadership
There are several different styles of leadership that can be used by a leader, whether if it is
within the public services or not. Each style works at different points of a situation; therefore, a
leader must be able to change between the required leadership style to ensure that a task is
completed to the best of a team s ability. It is unlikely that only one type of leadershipwould be
required during a task, so if a leader cannot adapt, the task may not be completed.
Authoritarian
Authoritarian leadership; also known as autocratic leadership; is an extremely direct style of
leadership where the leader remains in control the whole time and tells the other team members
what they must do. The team are expected to follow orders without question or negotiation,
therefore this could demoralise a team due to their opinions and ideas not being heard. It is best to
use authoritarian when: a leader knows all the information, there is a strict deadline to which the
team must work to, or the team is used to this style of leadership as the leader can be very
demanding which people may not be used to. Authoritarian leadership may not get the best response
from a team as it mainly relies on intimidation to work efficiently.
Authoritarian leadership is mainly seen within the military (British Army, Royal Air Force and
Royal Navy) where discipline is a major factor of their training and day to day life.
There are both pros and cons with using authoritarian leadership, depending on

Malcolm X and The Shakespearean Tragic heroes
Aristotle defines a tragic hero as good but flawed, must be aristocratic, must be believable, and must
behave consistently. Aristotle. The Muslim leader Malcolm Xcan be compared to such tragic
heroes such as Othello and Hamlet. Malcolm s life and his personality have similar traits from
both of the famous Shakespearean heroes. In this paper we will look deeper into the life of
Malcolm X and find the similarities between him and the tragic heroes, also we will prove that
Malcolm X can also be referred to as one of the great tragic heroes. Malcolm X was born Malcolm

To understand the phrase tragic flaw we can take it as Aristotle had stated it The tragic flaw is the
most important part of the hero and the events that occur in the work is a reflection of that flaw. В–
Aristotle. So just as in the case of Othello, Malcolm s tragic flaw is gullibility. Many people
because of their personal magnetism respect both these men. Malcolm is highly respected by
many because of his ability to get results and by the way he is able to gain followers with his
rhetoric. Othello is revered because of his awesome military genius. Malcolm and Othello both
have very high self confidence, which is shown by the way Malcolm argues beliefs and in the
way Othello justifies his marriage to Desdemona. Since both Othello and Malcolm X came from
humble and unsophisticated beginnings their judgment was somewhat hindered. In the play
Othello Iago one of the main characters sees this in Othello the Moor is of a free and open
nature that thinks men honest that but seem to be so. (1:3:55:442 443). Iago knew of Othello s
weakness. He also knew Othello s innocence and baseness makes him susceptible to being
undermined by people. Othello is clearly a person who believes appearances versus reality. The role
of Iago in Othello s life can be compared to the role of Elijah Muhammad in Malcolm s life.
Malcolm and Othello base their reactions and decisions solely on the advice of the one who
ultimately brings about their end. In Othello case he doesn t even

Urban Myths Of Urban Legends
Imagine the urban legends from your younger years, a reminiscent of your wildest fears. Your
heart rate gradually increases from the thought, feeling it pump out from your chest. Your breathing
staggers and paranoia surrounds you. You re frozen from fear, yet you can t run or fight it off. As
we grow, urban legendsare intended to make us feel specific emotions: as children they instill
fear, as adolescents they re meant more as humorous banter, while as adults, they re forgotten
and replaced with new ones only to be told to a child later one thus far continuing the cycle. In the
urban legends: My Dead Girlfriend , Calls from Beyond , Bed Reckoning , and Carmen Winstead ,
we live in a fast track world where our phones as well as social media sites are main factors in our

The Strange Situation Protocol Was Developed By British...
Attachment theory, originally developed by British psychoanalyst John Bowlby (1907 1990), is
based on caregiver child relationships. Bowlby indicated that the attachment style developed in
infancy, has a true correlation to our adult relationships, and is a result of recurring interpersonal
interactions with caregivers during childhood. Children develop different attachment styles based
on their experience and interactions with primary caregivers. Several various ways of evaluating
attachment in children have been introduced. One such evaluation mentioned in our textbook,
Lifespan Development, 2014 the Strange Situation Protocol was developed by Mary Ainsworth
(Boyd Bee, 2014, p.136 ). These attachments styles have been linked to how we form attachments
as adolescents and even into adulthood and consists of four main attachment styles; Secure,
Insecure avoidant, Insecure ambivalent and insecure disorganized. Secure Attachment Style is
described as a pattern of attachment in which an infant readily separates from the parent, seeks
proximity when stresses, and uses the parent as a safe base for exploration (Boyd Bee, 2014,
p.136). There is a vast amount of research regarding the importance of the parent child relationship
to the development of children into adulthood. According to an article in the Journal of

The River From Eden, By Charles Darwin
One of the most well known atheists evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins who order to
explain the existence of the universe and emergence of life on Earth. Today, many scientist firmly
believe that the universe was created approximately when infinitely small and dense point known
as singularity started expanding 14 billion years ago. Fine tuned expansion unleashed the
beginning of the time and space itself. Our Earth formed some 4 or 5 billion years ago, and the
first living single organisms appeared in water roughly 0.5 1.5 billions years after its existence.(35,
Theism, Atheism, and Big Bang Cosmology). Over the millions of years they began to evolve from
the single celled organism into ultimately the most advanced form of life, human through the
process of natural selection. The term was popularized by Charles Darwinin 1859 to explain how
animals change to adapt to the environment for survival. Richard Dawkins states in his book The
River From Eden , Genetic code is in fact literally identical in all animals, plants, and bacteria
that have ever been looked at. All earthly living things are descended from a single ancestor. From
a molecular point of, all animals are pretty close relatives of one another and even of plants (12).
Although scientists cannot scientifically explain how or why the Big Bang started, they
successfully explain what happens after the Big Bang and how we all came to be.

Persuasive Essay On Bo Jackson
Excellence One quote a person says can change the rest of one s life. More specifically, Bo
Jackson, famous National Football League running back and Major League Baseball player has
had his fair share of both success and well spoken quotes. Jackson had the ability to be a hall of
famer in both of the sports, as he was one of the hardest workers to play the game and refused to
be satisfied with anything less than superp. Bo Jackson s once said, Set your goals high and don
t stop till you get there, contained some of the most inspirational words to flow out of a person s
mouth. This quote demands the people to set their goals high, work relentlessly until their goal
is achieved, and to be ambitious. Arguably, setting your goals high is what Bo Jackson was
trying to say in his quote, and ultimately achieve greatness. Setting your goals high is so
important, and there are so many reasons on why to do this. Primarily, setting high goals leads
to the possibility for a greater return. This is because even if one works as hard as possible and
miss the ultimate goal it is very possible that he will have had more success than if one only
aimed for an easy tasks. Setting your goals high segues into the second reason, which is that it
will generate more momentum to work. For example if one is to complete a small project in a
week they might procrastinate until Rhinesmith 2 the last moment, naturally putting in less
effort. However if someone is to be given a difficult tasks they will naturally work much harder
to complete said task. When goals are set higher they will be placed at a higher standard if they
receive greater effort, giving the goal purpose. When one realizes that the goal they are set to
achieve has purpose, completing it will seem necessary. Working hard plays an extremely
important role when attempting to achieve a goal. Hard work is demonstrated in the part of the
quote where Jackson says, ...don t stop till you get there.. This quote was said by one of the
hardest workers of all time, Bo Jackson, therefore this definitely plays a key role in success. Not
only did he say this, but he meant every single word in this quote, as one

Swamplandia Analysis
This excerpt of Swamplandia, a novel by Karen Russell focuses on Hilola Bigtree, a performer
who races alligators as she is watched by an audience and her family. It is in the point of view of
the performer s daughter, who has seen her mother perform before and is newly captivated each
time. Since it is in her point of view, she is able to create an atmosphere where she can elevate her
mother as an exquisite being. She has an admiration for her mother, both as a performer and in
general, that is extremely clear. The tense narrativein the excerpt contributes to Hilola s portrayal as
indestructible. Russell portrays the narrators exaltation of her mother through the combination of
generated and real tension by use of dark imagery and the contrast between her and the audience
through sublime diction.
Russell shows the child s admiration for her mother by elevating her in comparison to the
audience and showing her in an ethereal point of view with heavenly diction and imagery. The
excerpt opens with the narrator describing her mother as perform[ing] in starlight (1). The
immediate association of Hilola and the stars portrays her as larger than life and otherworldly.
This shows how the narrator believes her mother is a divine being. She describes that her mother s
shoulder blades [are] pinched back like wings before she [dives] ( 33 34). This imagery paints the
portrait of her mother as an angelic creature who is above the audience that is watching her. The
narrator s depiction of the tourists is opposite than that of her mother. She recounts the tourists
slapping at ubiquitous mosquitos (26) and unsticking their khaki shorts and their printed
department store skirts from their sweating thighs (27 28). She portrays them as mere flesh in the
sense that they are grimy and adj. The fact that she describes all the audience members as being
dressed in a stereotypical tourist outfit shows how she believes that they are all the same, and there
is no variation or uniqueness to any of them. In terms of their actions, she relays that they shushed
and crushed against and cursed at one another. (28). This masculine repetition and repeated use of
conjunctions as a polysyndeton even further highlights the

Barbie Doll Representation
Representation is something that had been emphasized in the past few years. Especially, for
people color. It matters because it affects the way people, particulary children, view themselves as
they go throughout life. For this activity, I headed down to Wal Mart to take note of group based
differences in what is being sold in the store.
It was surprising to see the diversity of Barbie dolls that were on the shelves. There were several
Black dolls, a few Latina dolls, and a couple of Asian dolls. There was even a Black Barbie
where the packaging had a little sign on it that mentioned activated curls to mimic the hair
textures of black women. Of course, there was plenty of white Barbie dolls, considering that the
brand itself when it started only had white dolls. Unfortunately, Wal Mart does not sell G.I. Joe
action figures. However, the action figures that were sold there were mostly white men or non
terrestrial characters that are played by white actors. There was only one black action figure, a
character from Star Wars. In total, there were eighteen Barbie and action figures of color as well
as forty three white Barbie dolls and action figures. In addition, there were more signs that featured
people of color than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were only five frames that contained Black and/or Latino people. The rest consisted of white
people. Honestly, I never truly considered the filler pictures in the frames. Nonetheless, I
expected to see at least one picture with an Asian family but there was none. Wal Mart did not
have any items, sport or not, that featured Native Americans as a mascot or whatnot. It is possible
that Wal Mart s location made it difficult to find any because there was an abundance of Florida
gator memorabilia. Disappointingly, the children s books were scant of people of color. There
were only three books that contained a black character, often the best friend of the main white

Apocalypse star is certainly happy with the opportunity to play the Marvel mutant. But how
does Scott end up joining the X Men? Sheridan reveals it has a lot to do with Cyclops brother
Alex Summers aka Havok (Lucas Till)! Sheridan recently spoke to Den of Geek, where he talked
about taking on the role that was originally played by Enchanted actor James Marsden. It s such
an honor to play a younger version of James Marsden and it s going to be hard to live up to what
he created in the X Men universe, Sheridan said before explaining that Apocalypse will explore
the backstory of several characters. What s nice about this X Men is that it s very much an origin

Owl Research Papers
For many people, birds are seen to either be pets or wild animals. There is a massive amount of
species when it comes to learning about birds. One of the birds that I decided to do my research
paper on is Owls. The way I describe an owl is a type of bird that has a round head and large
eyes, but there are plenty more ways to describe an owl which is the purpose of this paper. An
interesting fact about owls is that they cannot move their eyes within their sockets like we can. In
order to look around, they have to move their entire head, which has a range of movement of about
270В°. Which many people find creepy and are scared of them. Owls usually fly and hunt at night,

Foremost, we need to address how there is a couple type of species of owls in Sequoia National

The other two types of owls are the northern pygmy owl which is a small owl native to North and
Central America. There is also the western screech owl which is as well a small owl native to
North and Central America, and the females of the species are also larger than the males. In the

Symbolism In Don T You Cry For Me By Songwriter Cobi
Songs, used to create messages, give singers the ability to speak about concerns that are relevant
in the current everyday life. A powerful ways songwriters achieve this is by applying the use of
imagery. Lyricists use this help readers of literary works to understand specific ideas that the
writer is trying to convey. By using symbolism in songs, singers can discuss issues in ways that
connect with the listener on a deeper level. Using this method in songwriting is crucial when
discussing important subjects; influencing the public in a way that is not direct and more effective.

Cobi has created an overall central theme of injustice throughout the song seeing injustice, the
unease of acting against it, and finally doing something about it. The way Cobi has written the
song puts great emphasis on how important it is to him. He wants listeners to take the matter of
suicide seriously so he includes darker visions of people being hanged. Being a serious topic he
avoids colloquialism and mainly uses metaphors to express the meaning. Witnessing how
relevant injustice is, Cobi comments on how others react to it observing, I ve seen an ocean run
away. He notices how many people (ocean being a Synecdoche for people) have run away and
do not help, which emphasizes the repeated lyric, please help me chop this tree down, indicating
that the effort to help must be shared. Through this symbolism, Cobi is speaking to the listener
and pleads for them to assist as well. This tree represents the injustice in the world that he wants
to fight. By taking action against it, people can interpret the gravel being paved as a reference to a
new beginning of hope. He uses mental images to reach people on a deeper level, which connects
to people s imagination and inspires them.
The imagery in song lyrics is important when introducing a message; if one s goal is to offer
reflection to the listener. In Don t You Cry For Me , Cobi achieves this through his mass use of
metaphors, the extensive images of the tree and hanging are elements that are key in conveying his
messages of fear, redemption, and injustice. This song directs listeners to stand up and not be
afraid to fight for what they believe, in a way that can connect to them emotionally. The imagery in
songs offers reflection into topics that are personal for each

Arguments Against Physical Machines Jenna Beran
Arguments Against Physical Machines Jenna Beran
In A Contemporary Defense of Dualism, J. P. Moreland challenges the problem of mind and body.
He uses the terms intentionality and subjectivity to argue that humans are not physical machines.
Subjectivity is the opinions and feelings from experience that is unique to the individual.
Intentionality describes how thought can be directed on a particular object. This is consciousness.
These terms are what make human beings distinct from physical machines. Moreland argues that
human beings are different from a physical machine because humans have a mind that uses
intentionality and subjectivity.
Moreland compares the intentionality and subjectivity of physical things to the mind. Humans are
able to think about desires and beliefs with the use of intentionality. We are not just a bundle of
nerves that take in sensory information and give feedback because of the intentionality of the mind.
Instead, human beings are able to process the sensory information, and give feedback through
unique opinions. The combination of consciousness and experience are what makes every human
unique in the world. When looking at a physical object like a computer, it doesn t have the
characteristics of subjectivity and intentionality. The computer does not have subjectivity because it
cannot feel emotions. The computer also doesn t have intentionality because it cannot express its
beliefs. Humans can envision objects that do not really exist such as a

important in the clinical setting, what Kaiser Permanente s policy about central line care and

about preventing central line associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), and what my role in

frequent or long term access to the vascular system. The authors explain that catheters are used for
the administration of high volume fluids, medications that are irritating (such as chemotherapy),
long term pain medication, blood products, parenteral nutrition, and hemodialysis. Kaiser policy

The Importance Of The Tower Of Pisa
The Tower of Pisa is a major cite in Italy due to its natural, but not intended, lean. The bell tower
stands at close to one hundred ninety feet tall with one side noticeable being shorter than the other.
The reason for the lean of the tower is due to the soil and weight distribution. The weight of the
building is so heavy and the soilitself was not very stable. (Urban Climatology). The stair case on
the inside of the bell tower is made of marble and took over three hundred years to be completely
built. Marble was a material that was used by ancient Greece that eventually ended up being
used by not only them, but the rest of the world also. Marble is a very smooth, hard substance
that is usually a sign of wealth. (Lezzerini). Important to catch their dynamic response to natural
actions in general, and also to assess the effects due to pedestrian and users, and consequently to
define functional capabilities and levels of acceptable dynamic stress. The studied structure was
subject to artificial loading by synchronous movement of about 20 people. (Piroddi). This is
stating that the tower may have been affected with a lean due to people walking amongst it. Not
only can soil and the building itself have an impact on the buildings overall structure but people
walking in it can also dramatically affect it. Although the tower being on a lean is a fantastic
thing to look at, its main purpose was to be a bell tower for the near by cathedral. As the Tower of

The Machiavelli And Machiavelli s The Prince
I have always found great interest in the infamous Niccolo Machiavelli and his ways of thinking;
my eye was drawn to him long before I knew I would be studying at Colorado State and even
before I had any interest in politics. It was from young man know as Tupac Shakur, and let me
tell you it is great to finally understand who Machiavelli is and the things he has done for the
outlook on politics after hearing about how much respect and praise he got from the iconic rapper
of the 1990s. In this paper I will be analyzing and contrasting Thomas More s Utopia and
Machiavelli s The Princeand their ideas on subjects that include good governance and social
orders, key reforms, and who should be held responsible for providing good governance and an
orderly society.
First let us discuss the ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli in is piece The Prince . Machiavelli has a
very independent controversial way of thinking and portraying his ideal form of governance in
this text. The ideal and most effective from of governance for him is not in that of a republic but
instead he insists in an autocratic regime. He argues that republics and other forms of
government are too weak because of the corruptness of human nature. This book is written as a
guide on how a prince should run his state or nation based on how and when he would come into
this power. One of his main concerns in which he has been criticized for is his disregard to follow
moral values so as to properly run the state, as well as

Narrowly Missed Apocalypses Essay
Useless Factlets 229: Narrowly Missed Apocalypses
North Korea has been acting pretty crazy lately, which I think has some people a little anxious. It s

Before anything truly insane happened, it was discovered that someone inserted the attack

guys!
If that wasn t a close enough call, again in 1983, the systems all go bonkers, indicating hundreds of
incoming missiles. Then indicating 2 missiles. Then 0. Then 250. Hey, Jim what s your warning
count on inbound missiles? 8? Mine says 98. WTH?
This time, it was a burned out computer chip that caused the glitch. As was the case in the 79
scare, cooler heads prevailed by checking the raw data from our defense satellites, which showed
no missiles.
But none of this is nearly as terrifying as when the Soviet systems glitched out.
The Soviet ICBM warning system came later than our own and was different in a way they
thought would prevent false alarms. We had DTS satellites that scanned the whole planet s surface
for launches. The Soviet system focused on just the mainland US s launch sites. Their satellite
scanned the edge of earth s atmosphere, where a missile would easily show up against the vast,
empty blackness of space. This would reduce natural phenomena being mistaken for launches.
Pretty fresh thinking and to keep the planet safe as possible. Except their system was buggier than
ours.

health and mortality. According the Canadian facts, when an individual has a higher education, they
have improved health outcomes. This is often related to the fact that education increases income,
employment and provides improved job security. Education also produces enhanced literacy.
Education allows for individuals to have an improved comprehension of the societal aspects that
influence their health. Furthermore, by having improved education, a patient can advocate for their
health, implement healthier lifestyle choices and seek out appropriate resources to enhance their
health. The literature also demonstrates that poor education is equated with increased

Computers are what run society today, everywhere we look we see devices that are run off of

way the world communicates with each other, because of computers it is a much smaller world in
which we live. Computers have been around for such a short period of time, yet they seem to be
advancing faster than anything else; this is because there is an infinite number of ways computers
can be implemented to help individuals. Thirty years after the first computerwas developed,
computers had already been altered to read and save information on magnetic tapes that ran

To emphasize, the phrase we had nowhere to go, that neither the Americans nor the Canadians

mention, it also illustrates that the mother is trying to dismiss her motherly characteristics like
being nurturing and affectionate and put up a hardened exterior because she wants acceptance for
herself. However, she did express some hope for her son to ensure him that they will gain justice
eventually, which demonstrates that even if she tries to venture out of the societal norms, her
motherly instincts will always be there (King 312). Moreover, it establishes that mother is willing
to push until she gets her way which is again typical of male qualities. Therefore, the violation of

It however gets its root meaning from the Greek words_ phainГіmenon which means: that which
appears , and logos which means: study .
We can further bring this to more expressive wording and say; the philosophical (in Greek means
love of wisdom) study of structures of experience and consciousness.
In the following assignment we will find out phenomenology has become a fundamental concern in
the works of Peter Zumthor.
Peter Zumthor is a Swiss architect (currently aged 74) whose work is often seen as minimalist and
uncompromising. Zumthor through his years of practice and managing a small firm managed to
pocket himself two very notable awards amongst plenty others. The awards ... Show more content

Each place has a history, a memorial for the people that have worked there and lived there. I believe
architecture should speak simple things and labour. The buildings (his) try to be very simple and
straight forward in construction and not too sophisticated. The building ensures that it is about
being inside, it s about being outside. The inside can be theatrical. If you may the space black, then

Toddler Beds And Dimensions Of Choosing A Twin Bed
When looking for a new bed, it s important to understand the sizes and dimensions of your
options. When considering a bed, even for a child, it is important that you do not limit yourself to
simple single and twin beds. While beds of this size may be adequate now, a small bed may limit
your future options. A growing child, for instance, may go from a toddler bedto a queen that they
can continue to use comfortably as they grow. understanding bed sizes will also help you
determine how well a certain bed will fit in your available space.
Toddler Beds
The standard dimension for toddler beds in the United States is 27 inches wide by 52 inches
long. These dimensions are roughly the same as most cribs so that your baby s crib mattress can
easily be moved from the crib to the bed when it s time. This allows you to use your baby s crib
mattress and its accompanying sheet sets for a much longer period of time. It s also easy to find
waterproof mattress covers and protectors in this size to help you clean up nighttime accidents
during potty training. Toddler beds also include railings and are low to the ground to prevent falls.

The term twin bed simply refers to two identical single beds. This arrangement is common in hotel
rooms and vacation homes. The two terms are often used interchangeably in the United States, even
though they have slightly different meanings. The standard dimension for a single bed is 39 inches
wide and 75 inches long.

Undisturbed Pond Lab
Differences in Biodiversity Evenness between two adjacent Ponds
Partners: Andrea, Mohammed, Manuela
Date: May 20, 2016
Objective:
To observe the biodiversity in a disturbed pond (high human impact) versus an undisturbed pond
(low human impact).
To learn and practice techniques of specimen collection.
To use mathematical indices to calculate biodiversity in a community.
Background Research:
Biodiversity accounts for the difference in life throughout our planet. The different animal
kingdoms throughout ecosystems is the most notable example of biodiversity. Biodiversity is the
entire spectrum of species that live in the biosphere. A small pond such as the ones that will be
sampled are ecosystems to frogs, lilies, and insects and an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Undisturbed Pond had an evenness of .89, while the disturbed pond had an evenness of
.606. This can lead to the assumption that the Undisturbed Pond has greater Biodiversity then
the disturbed pond. This can be attributed towards the affect humans have had on the disturbed
pond. The disturbed Pond has gone through many external factors that could affect its
biodiversity. Harmful effects towards the pond such as dumping or mixing outside water could
weed out weaker species, leaving only the most adapted to survive. The lab can be taken to a
larger scale to teste biodiversity in bigger lakes that have or haven t seen human activity. Lake
Sammamish versus a random lake in Fall City would be interesting to conduct (testing for
biodiversity). A sources of error in this lab could have been that the samples came from different
types of areas within the ponds. The disturbed pond s depth is different than the undisturbed
pond, and samples could only be gotten from a small area in the pond. So it is possible the
samples are from different depths within their ponds, and different species could be adapted to
different depths, and there could naturally be less species at this level of the pond. Vegetation is
also a factor that was not taken account of. One sample is from a highly vegetated area
(undisturbed pond). There are naturally more species near vegetation as the use it for protection
(Farmer Fred), so the results could be skewed. This suggests an additional experiment, one that
could look for the difference species in the ponds, and look for the species that is dominating the

Adam Lanza Case
As a child Adam lanza had little contact with his father and was not properly nurtured by his
mother and the school he attended. As a result, his mental issues were allowed to get out of control
and he ended up committing a horrendous crime. Everyone remembers the events that occurred at
Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Before Adam Lanza decided to go to
Sandy Hookwith a gun, he attended there as a child. In 1998, Lanza began first grade and
received speech and language services along with occupational therapy. When Lanza arrived in
second grade he was removed from occupational therapy and in fourth grade was removed from all
special education. This lead Mrs. Lanza, his mother, to write the school a letter voicing her concern.

Lanza wrote to friends she clearly addressed that her husband wasn t spending enough time with
their father. The only time Mr. Lanza wanted to be a father to Adam and Ryan Lanza was when
it was fun and the actual parenting wasn t needed. Mr. Lanza gradually became an aloof father,
with him being a fairweather father, Adam wasn t allowed the type of nurturing a boy needs
from a father. Mr. Lanza never imagined the kind of nurturing his son Adam would need as he
was developing and growing. The influential lack of nurturing was present consistently in the
early years of Adam Lanza s life. Even though most of it occurred when he was a child, the lack
of nurturement in Adam s life was there, slightly or considerably, while he was developing and
growing. Nurturement wasn t only lacking from his father and his school, his mother also couldn t
imagine how much nurturing it would take to nurture Adam. As an adolescent, Adam had mental
problems which were diagnosed by doctors, but these problems were never nurtured. HIs mother
was a key component to never having his problems nurtured. At 13 years old Adam was taken to
the Emergency Room by his mother for a crisis evaluation . The only reason to bring Adam to the
Emergency Room was to get a medical note saying he could stay out of school.

Venous Stasis Ulcer
An ulcer is an open lesion of the skin resulting in tissue loss. It is estimated that venous stasis
ulcers affect 500,000 to 600,000 people in the United States every year and it is by far the most
common type of leg ulcer seen (Foot Pain Explained). A person may have an ulcer on one or
both legs and each leg may have multiple ulcerations. These ulcers are found in the inner part of
the lower leg and can be very painful. Venous stasis is a very common disease of the leg. A venous
stasis ulcer is a leg wound that does not heal because the veins of the legs are not pumping blood
back to the heart. The blood pools in the lower leg which causes the leg to swell, the skin to open
and form an ulcer. People who have a history of leg and feet... Show more content on

This doesn t mean it s infected. If it is infected, there will be a lot more drainage and the area
around the ulcer will be much redder in color than normal. Venous stasis ulcers need to be
cleaned and debrided to remove all dead tissues and to promote formation of healthy granulation
tissue. Some doctors clean the wound with a mild soap and others use a wound cleaner. There
are a few methods doctors use to debride an ulcer but the most common is where the doctor
takes a scalpel and scrapes away all dead tissue within the ulcer and around the wound. If the
ulcer has a lot of yellow fibrous tissue, the debridement may have to be done under local
anesthesia because this can be a very painful procedure. Dead tissue has to be removed for two
reasons; one it harbors bacteria so if the wound is already infected it helps clear up the infection
and if the wound is not yet infected it greatly reduces the possibility of infection (Foot Pain
Explained). Secondly, healthy tissue cannot form where there is an abundance of dead tissue so
healing will be delayed (Foot Pain Explained). Depending on the wound, the doctor is the one who
decides which method of debridement to use. After the cleaning and debridement, a dressing is
applied. There are many types of dressings: moist dressings, hydrogel and hydrocolloid dressing,
alginate dressings, collagen wound dressings, antimicrobial dressings, and composite dressings.

The Roles of Greek Heroism and the Gods in the Persian Wars
The Persian Wars (499 479 BC) put the Greeks in the difficult position of having to defend their
country against a vast empire with an army that greatly outnumbered their own. Many city states
united in battle, although others found ways to avoid participation in the wars. The Greeks also
relied on the words of Apollo to guide them, but the oracle did not always act encouragingly. The
Greeks defeated the Persians in the Persian Wars due to heroic actions performed by Athens and
Sparta and occasional assistance from the gods, but cowardice shown by other poleis nearly ended
the Greeks chances of success.

The Athenians superior attitude would continue throughout the wars against Persia.
The Greeks showed more unity during the Second Persian War. Xerxes assembled a Persian army
including soldiers from all parts of the Eastern world in order to retaliate against the Greeks for
their victory at Marathon, and this caused the Greeks to worry. Thirty one Greek poleis met at
Corinth to discuss the situation, and appointed Sparta to the position of commanding polis due to
its vast hoplite army. Greeks who were loyal to the Greek cause... reconcile[d] enmities and put a
stop to existing wars between each other (Hdt. VII.145.1) in order to fight against Persia. However,
only one Peloponnesian state (Sparta) offered help throughout the wars.
Argos received an excuse from the Delphic oracle to keep it from battle (Hdt. VII.148 152), and
Messene was so corrupted that [it] even tried to prevent Sparta s attempts to come to Greece s
aid (Plato, 692d). Other city states avoided participation in the wars as well. The oracle also
excused Crete from fighting (Hdt. VII.169), and the tyrant Gelon of Syracuse refused to let his
state help Greece s cause (Brunt 158 162). If these poleis had chosen to fight, the Persians may
have been intimidated by the large Greek forces and avoided war. The Greeks instead presented an
image of a nation torn by cowardice, thereby making the Persians more confident in attacking
Greece. This lack of unity among the city states created some

An Interview to Compare Adult Learners
The purpose of this 10 minutes interview with three different individuals in age ranges of 20 s, 40

With the use of some questionnaires, the three interviews have shown that in different age ranges

and economic status but, what needs to be learned and the purpose of learning are different
depending on the age of an individual. The ability to keep information within an individual also
differs due to aging. The interview clearly shows that as an individual age, the ability to remember
facts, dates, and names decline and memory storage is not functional as it used to be. Therefore,
one needs to understand the age range of people encountered in life especially in regards to learning
so that effective strategies could be implemented.

The Crime Of A Gang
The country we live in has been affected and influenced by something that we now call a Gang .
According, to Dictionary.com a gang is defined as a group of youngsters or adolescents who
associate closely, often exclusively, for social reasons, especially such a group engaging in
delinquent behavior. Since the early 1900 s The United States of America has been affected by
gangs. They originated from the Italian immigrants that were closely related to the Sicilian mafia
and others that were located in New York City, there main motive was to steal and kill to achieve
what they wanted. Since the Italian Mafia in New York City many other ethnicity s have popped
up in the gang violence scene. Starting in the 1950 s and 1960 s Asians, Hispanics, and African
Americans began bonding together to form gangs, and by the time the 1970 s and 1980 s came
around there were many national gang alliances that swept from Los Angles California to New
York City and many smaller towns in between. Along with all the widespread gang activities there
was also a lot of illegal drug running throughout the country for gangs for that they can finance there
gang activities. With all the widespread gang activity involving many different racial ethnicities
comes certain hurdles that local and state governments are going to have to monitor and trouble
shoot to figure out the proper recipe for the least amount of citizens get involved in the violence.

Sodium Cholesterol And Its Effect On Ldl Cholesterol
Figure 1 contains a high %DV since this food product contains 25% of fat. This package
contains 2 microwavable bacon, egg and cheese croissant sandwiches and it is from Drive Thru.
The sandwich appears to be medium sized and must be kept frozen. Figure 2 contains a low %DV
since this food product contains 5% of fat. This product is a calorie reduced margarine that is from
Becel. It claims to contain plant sterols to aid in lowering cholesterolof individuals who consume it.
A health risk that is associated with too much saturated fat is atherosclerosis (Smolin et al., 2015).
Consuming too much saturated fat causes the lipoproteins that contain cholesterol to increase in
production in the liver (Smolin et al., 2015). This results in the reduction of receptors on LDL
cholesterol so it decreases the amount of cholesterol that is removed from the blood (Smolin et
al., 2015). This increases the risk of atherosclerosis because once oxidized LDL cholesterol is
present in the artery it promotes the inflammation in that area (Smolin et al., 2015). This results in
white blood cells sticking to the lining of the artery and mature into macrophages (Smolin et al.,
2015). The presence of scavenger receptors on these macrophages increases the uptake of LDL
cholesterol which become foam cells (Smolin et al., 2015). These foam cells tend to burst over time
and form fatty streak within the artery (Smolin et al., 2015). Furthermore, the plaque begins to
accumulate and could eventually

The Death Of The Khmer Rouge Party Leader, Pol Pot Seized...
From the time humans began to exist in this world, hatred seemed to be a superior attribute that
one comes accustomed to. This inevitable emotion has the ability to provoke people to engage in
acts without thinking; but it is the acts that are premeditated that should be be classified as evil
and brutal. This appalling endeavor is known as genocide, the deliberate destruction of a particular
national, racial or religious group. Between the years of 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rougeparty
leader, Pol Pot seized power of Cambodiaand forced civilians of urban regions into rural lands for
labor in order to build his own agrarian utopia. Over the course of these four years, the
Cambodians and other minor ethnic groups suffered through labor camps, starvation, and torture
which all led up to their demise. As a result of these mass killings, the country s population
depleted by over 20 percent in just a few years. The country went through hardship during and
even before the genocide began including wars, torment, and considerable numbers of deaths.
Cambodia is a country located within Southeast Asia and is bordered by the countries of Thailand,
Laos, and Vietnam. After being a French protectorate for nearly a century, on 9 November 1953,
Cambodia regained its full independence. The population was over seven million and the country
was ruled by a monarch with Prince Sihanouk as Head of State. However, this happiness was short

The Writer In The Family Short Story
In John Updike s A P, and E.L. Doctorow s The Writer in The Family, two boys take part in a
journey of their early lives and find the words they need to be advocate for themselves. Both
Sammy and Jonathan defy an adult authoritative figure; nevertheless, they handle their rebellion
differently. Despite these differences, their experiences lead them both on a similar path of self
discovery. The opposition and determination these characters demonstrate throughout each story
shows the struggles that come with growing up and accepting oneself as an independent person.
The first similarity these boys face is an adult authority figure. In A P, Sammy works a job and
lives a life he does not want because his parents are expecting him to go down the same path as
they did. Sammy does what is considered normal for someone his age. He describes looking
outside and seeing about twenty seven old freeloaders tearing up Central Street because the
sewer broke again. It s not as if we re on the Cape; we re north of Boston and there s people in this
town haven t seen the ocean for twenty years. (Updike.) In The Writer in the Family, Aunt Francis
is asking Jonathan to complete difficult tasks repeatedly for selfish reasons. After his father dies,
Jonathan is made to write letters to his grandma so that she won t be distressed over the news. His
Aunt bullies him into doing this so that she can feel closer to her late brother, not caring about what
pain it may cause Jonathan.

  • 2. Social Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird Justice has long been considered something that is important to the success of a society. However justice in itself is something that is hard to achieve. Recently in the news, a story has arisen regarding a father who was not able to afford a lawyer, due to this he was not able to see his kids for five years. This is what some people would call political injustice, a case in which someone s given rights have been ignored. This is very common despite people saying that justice should be given to all people. Social injustice is a case in which people are affected by less government and law related issues, including, environmental rights, civil rights, and an access to education. This can be also seen clearly in To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Through the society that Harper Lee portrays in her novel she suggests that justice is something worth fighting for. Examples of both social and polГtical injustice becomes apparent. Social injustice is a common theme throughout the novel. This can appear in cases of stereotypes. Many people in the town of Maycomb have families that are over generalized. Such as the Cunninghams, who never took anything they can t pay back. (Lee 26). However some of these stereotypes are very inaccurate. For instance, Walter Cunningham went to dinner with the Finches, this was something that he could not pay back, but he did it anyway. Or when Scout was able to help snap Mr.Cunningham back to reality when he was trying to intimidate Atticus. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Energy Detection Based Spectrum Sensing Method In energy detector, the received signal is first filtered with a band pass filter in bandwidth to normalize the noise variance and to limit the noise power. The output signal is then squared and integrated as follows: for each in phase or quadrature component, a number of samples over a time interval are squared and summed. The conventional energy detection method assumes that the primary user signal is either absent or present and the performance degrades when the primary user is absent and then suddenly appears during the sensing time. An adaptive method to improve the performance of Energy detection based spectrum sensing method is proposed .In this proposal, a side detector is used which continuously monitor the spectrum so as to improve the probability of detection. The Primary user uses a QPSK signal with a 200 kHz band pass bandwidth (BW). The sampling frequency is 8 times the signal BW. A 1024 point FFT is used to calculate the received signal energy. Simulation results showed that when primary users appear during the sensing time, the conventional energy detector has lower probability of detection as compared to the proposed detector. The performance of energy detector is characterized by Receiver Operating curves usually. AOC (Area under the Receiver Operating curves) is used to analyze the performance of the energy detector method over Nakagami fading channels. Results showed that a higher value of fading parameter leads to larger average AUC, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Explain Why the Hispanic Vote Is Becoming More Important... Explain why the Hispanic vote is becoming more important in US elections (10 marks) Hispanics are a growing group in the USA in terms of politics, this can be seen through demographics, according to the 2000 census, they did form 12% of the population, but by the 2010 census this figure has increased over 16% (51 million people) this was due to immigration and birth rates, therefore over the years they have become more influential as they are now a larger proportion or the electorate. Furthermore, because they are a young group and a significant proportion are not yet of voting age, with one quarter of Hispanics being under 18, Their full political importance is yet to show as they have not yet acquired the right to vote, which is one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could be due to George D. Bush though, as in the 2000 he made a significant effort to pitch for the Hispanic vote, with the help of him speaking fluent Spanish. However, in 2012 these figures went down to 27%. With 71% of the Hispanic population supporting Obama and the Democratic beliefs such as rights for ethnic minorities, welfare and supporters of the dream act allowing for naturalisation. There was also evidence of the alienation of this group however, by Romney in 2012, whose reference to self deportation and anti immigration views in the campaign is thought to have affected his chances of winning in several states and for some future Republicans in their campaigns. But, Hispanics did help push Republicans to victory in a few 2014 races, as when Cory Gardner ousted Colorado Senator. When looking at political campaigns in recent years there has been increasing evidence in the parties campaigns for the support of this racial group as they are being targeted in the campaigns in a strategic manner, by campaigning in Spanish or supporting citizenship, or heavy focus on Hispanic candidates from the parties for examples the Republican focus was on candidates such as Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz. It is true that the Hispanic population, at 53 million, is still much smaller than the non Hispanic population, at around 260 million. But it s also a population that represents a massive opportunity for either party. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Application Of Free Space Optics Introduction Free Space Optics is an advance technology used to transmit data from one point to another using light a medium. This technology has emerged in 1960 s and has been advanced day by day. This has become the advanced and mostly used because of the data rates and the bandwidths provided by this type of communication. This is now mostly used for connecting different LANs and also used in satellite communication. There are many wireless technologies like Bluetooth, infrared and many others but this technology has the capability of replacing all those technologies. This FSO communication is mostly used because of its security reasons. Fiber optical link communication has been the best kind of transmission in this era however this FSO communication additionally supplanted this fiber optic communication in numerous territories. As this is a remote innovation, it has the favorable circumstances when contrasted with wired advances. As we have an advancement of innovations like RF Wireless transmission over the wireless transmissions, electrical sign transmission over copper and coaxial links, light transmission over optical fiber links and now this Free Space Optics technology has advanced. • 7. Double In Gothic Literature Analysis In literary criticism, the term double is defined as literary device that is used to directly compare, and contrast, the familiar with the strange. Often, doubles are used in pieces of literature to examine character traits, both positive and negative, as they are easier to identify and analyze when presented in two different lights. Another, perhaps more identifiable, word for double is doppelganger. The word doppelganger means look alike, or more literally, double walker. Doubles are meant to bear striking physical similarities, if they do not look exactly identical. Often meeting one s double brings about a certain realization of self. Doubles are often prevalent in gothic literature, where strangeness and freakishness are two defining characteristics of the genre. These two adjectives can also, very neatly, describe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mere thought of having a physical double can be jarring or shocking. Meeting that double is another idea all together. It is not something that most of us can fathom. However, it is the strangeness or implausibility of this idea that makes it so intriguing. Something that so many are eager to play with, especially in modern media. While the gothic genre has lost popularity in recent years, mostly due to the fact its popularity stemmed from the ease in which it gave authors to socially criticize the Victorian government, that does not mean the idea of the double has gone obsolete. In fact, doubleness has gained a considerable amount of popularity in modern media. Television shows like Orphan Black, The Vampire Diaries, Ringer, and many more focus primarily on the idea of doubleness and what it means for the characters. The consequences of having a double and the realization of self it brings about are at the forefront of the plots for these television shows and many more. This essay will focus on doubleness in popular media, particularly in terms of the quote from the Conrad piece, The Secret ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Analysis Of Ian Mcewan s Atonement Any author can understand the challenges the writing process presents. Writing is never an easy task to achieve. Out of the many essential qualities that encompass the basics of a good novel, what separates the elite writers from the rest, is their ability to effectively use literary devices to shape the reader s understand and attitudes towards the central issues of the novel. As the author of a novel they are inclined to covey a complete story and as a result their world filled with adventure and wonderful characters should serve as the reader s guide in showcasing the author s true intentions of the novels meaning. The novel Atonement is a prime example where the author Ian McEwan, transports the reader into a fictionnarrative that demonstrates literary devices effortlessly. Within my analysis I hope to highlight McEwan s use of metaphors, setting, and dynamic characters just as he demonstrated in Atonement. In the process, I will identify why McEwan s desire to create a structure of words and literary devices to run side by side with the McEwan s theme of guilt and atonement is vital to the understanding author s intentions and to shape our understanding of the novel s truest meaning. Section 1 In Atonement, McEwan writes with such uniqueness and purpose that his desire to communicate a deeper message can often be overlooked as a nicely worded sentence and without an analysis of these patterns and reference to phrases the reader could miss McEwan s moral ... Each style works at different points of a situation; therefore, a leader must be able to change between the required leadership style to ensure that a task is completed to the best of a team s ability. It is unlikely that only one type of leadershipwould be required during a task, so if a leader cannot adapt, the task may not be completed. Authoritarian Authoritarian leadership; also known as autocratic leadership; is an extremely direct style of leadership where the leader remains in control the whole time and tells the other team members what they must do. The team are expected to follow orders without question or negotiation, therefore this could demoralise a team due to their opinions and ideas not being heard. It is best to use authoritarian when: a leader knows all the information, there is a strict deadline to which the team must work to, or the team is used to this style of leadership as the leader can be very demanding which people may not be used to. Authoritarian leadership may not get the best response from a team as it mainly relies on intimidation to work efficiently. Malcolm is highly respected by many because of his ability to get results and by the way he is able to gain followers with his rhetoric. Othello is revered because of his awesome military genius. Malcolm and Othello both have very high self confidence, which is shown by the way Malcolm argues beliefs and in the way Othello justifies his marriage to Desdemona. • 17. The Strange Situation Protocol Was Developed By British... Attachment theory, originally developed by British psychoanalyst John Bowlby (1907 1990), is based on caregiver child relationships. Bowlby indicated that the attachment style developed in infancy, has a true correlation to our adult relationships, and is a result of recurring interpersonal interactions with caregivers during childhood. Children develop different attachment styles based on their experience and interactions with primary caregivers. Several various ways of evaluating attachment in children have been introduced. One such evaluation mentioned in our textbook, Lifespan Development, 2014 the Strange Situation Protocol was developed by Mary Ainsworth (Boyd Bee, 2014, p.136 ). These attachments styles have been linked to how we form attachments as adolescents and even into adulthood and consists of four main attachment styles; Secure, Insecure avoidant, Insecure ambivalent and insecure disorganized. Secure Attachment Style is described as a pattern of attachment in which an infant readily separates from the parent, seeks proximity when stresses, and uses the parent as a safe base for exploration (Boyd Bee, 2014, p.136). There is a vast amount of research regarding the importance of the parent child relationship to the development of children into adulthood. Today, many scientist firmly believe that the universe was created approximately when infinitely small and dense point known as singularity started expanding 14 billion years ago. Fine tuned expansion unleashed the beginning of the time and space itself. Our Earth formed some 4 or 5 billion years ago, and the first living single organisms appeared in water roughly 0.5 1.5 billions years after its existence.(35, Theism, Atheism, and Big Bang Cosmology). Over the millions of years they began to evolve from the single celled organism into ultimately the most advanced form of life, human through the process of natural selection. The term was popularized by Charles Darwinin 1859 to explain how animals change to adapt to the environment for survival. Richard Dawkins states in his book The River From Eden , Genetic code is in fact literally identical in all animals, plants, and bacteria that have ever been looked at. All earthly living things are descended from a single ancestor. From a molecular point of, all animals are pretty close relatives of one another and even of plants (12). More specifically, Bo Jackson, famous National Football League running back and Major League Baseball player has had his fair share of both success and well spoken quotes. Jackson had the ability to be a hall of famer in both of the sports, as he was one of the hardest workers to play the game and refused to be satisfied with anything less than superp. Bo Jackson s once said, Set your goals high and don t stop till you get there, contained some of the most inspirational words to flow out of a person s mouth. This quote demands the people to set their goals high, work relentlessly until their goal is achieved, and to be ambitious. Arguably, setting your goals high is what Bo Jackson was trying to say in his quote, and ultimately achieve greatness. Setting your goals high is so important, and there are so many reasons on why to do this. Primarily, setting high goals leads to the possibility for a greater return. This is because even if one works as hard as possible and miss the ultimate goal it is very possible that he will have had more success than if one only aimed for an easy tasks. Setting your goals high segues into the second reason, which is that it will generate more momentum to work. For example if one is to complete a small project in a week they might procrastinate until Rhinesmith 2 the last moment, naturally putting in less effort. However if someone is to be given a difficult tasks they will naturally work much harder to complete said task. When goals are set higher they will be placed at a higher standard if they receive greater effort, giving the goal purpose. When one realizes that the goal they are set to achieve has purpose, completing it will seem necessary. Working hard plays an extremely important role when attempting to achieve a goal. Hard work is demonstrated in the part of the quote where Jackson says, ...don t stop till you get there.. • 23. Swamplandia Analysis This excerpt of Swamplandia, a novel by Karen Russell focuses on Hilola Bigtree, a performer who races alligators as she is watched by an audience and her family. It is in the point of view of the performer s daughter, who has seen her mother perform before and is newly captivated each time. Since it is in her point of view, she is able to create an atmosphere where she can elevate her mother as an exquisite being. She has an admiration for her mother, both as a performer and in general, that is extremely clear. The tense narrativein the excerpt contributes to Hilola s portrayal as indestructible. Russell portrays the narrators exaltation of her mother through the combination of generated and real tension by use of dark imagery and the contrast between her and the audience through sublime diction. Russell shows the child s admiration for her mother by elevating her in comparison to the audience and showing her in an ethereal point of view with heavenly diction and imagery. The excerpt opens with the narrator describing her mother as perform[ing] in starlight (1). The immediate association of Hilola and the stars portrays her as larger than life and otherworldly. This shows how the narrator believes her mother is a divine being. She describes that her mother s shoulder blades [are] pinched back like wings before she [dives] ( 33 34). This imagery paints the portrait of her mother as an angelic creature who is above the audience that is watching her. The narrator s depiction of the tourists is opposite than that of her mother. She recounts the tourists slapping at ubiquitous mosquitos (26) and unsticking their khaki shorts and their printed department store skirts from their sweating thighs (27 28). She portrays them as mere flesh in the sense that they are grimy and adj. The fact that she describes all the audience members as being dressed in a stereotypical tourist outfit shows how she believes that they are all the same, and there is no variation or uniqueness to any of them. In terms of their actions, she relays that they shushed and crushed against and cursed at one another. (28). Cobi has created an overall central theme of injustice throughout the song seeing injustice, the unease of acting against it, and finally doing something about it. The way Cobi has written the song puts great emphasis on how important it is to him. He wants listeners to take the matter of suicide seriously so he includes darker visions of people being hanged. Being a serious topic he avoids colloquialism and mainly uses metaphors to express the meaning. Witnessing how relevant injustice is, Cobi comments on how others react to it observing, I ve seen an ocean run away. He notices how many people (ocean being a Synecdoche for people) have run away and do not help, which emphasizes the repeated lyric, please help me chop this tree down, indicating that the effort to help must be shared. Through this symbolism, Cobi is speaking to the listener and pleads for them to assist as well. This tree represents the injustice in the world that he wants to fight. Moreland argues that human beings are different from a physical machine because humans have a mind that uses intentionality and subjectivity. The bell tower stands at close to one hundred ninety feet tall with one side noticeable being shorter than the other. The reason for the lean of the tower is due to the soil and weight distribution. The weight of the building is so heavy and the soilitself was not very stable. (Urban Climatology). The stair case on the inside of the bell tower is made of marble and took over three hundred years to be completely built. Marble was a material that was used by ancient Greece that eventually ended up being used by not only them, but the rest of the world also. Marble is a very smooth, hard substance that is usually a sign of wealth. (Lezzerini). Important to catch their dynamic response to natural actions in general, and also to assess the effects due to pedestrian and users, and consequently to define functional capabilities and levels of acceptable dynamic stress. The studied structure was subject to artificial loading by synchronous movement of about 20 people. (Piroddi). This is stating that the tower may have been affected with a lean due to people walking amongst it. Not only can soil and the building itself have an impact on the buildings overall structure but people walking in it can also dramatically affect it. Although the tower being on a lean is a fantastic thing to look at, its main purpose was to be a bell tower for the near by cathedral. As the Tower of Pisa has a lean, it is ... The Machiavelli And Machiavelli s The Prince I have always found great interest in the infamous Niccolo Machiavelli and his ways of thinking; my eye was drawn to him long before I knew I would be studying at Colorado State and even before I had any interest in politics. It was from young man know as Tupac Shakur, and let me tell you it is great to finally understand who Machiavelli is and the things he has done for the outlook on politics after hearing about how much respect and praise he got from the iconic rapper of the 1990s. In this paper I will be analyzing and contrasting Thomas More s Utopia and Machiavelli s The Princeand their ideas on subjects that include good governance and social orders, key reforms, and who should be held responsible for providing good governance and an orderly society. First let us discuss the ideas of Niccolo Machiavelli in is piece The Prince . Machiavelli has a very independent controversial way of thinking and portraying his ideal form of governance in this text. The ideal and most effective from of governance for him is not in that of a republic but instead he insists in an autocratic regime. He argues that republics and other forms of government are too weak because of the corruptness of human nature. This book is written as a guide on how a prince should run his state or nation based on how and when he would come into this power. One of his main concerns in which he has been criticized for is his disregard to follow moral values so as to properly run the state, as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If that wasn t a close enough call, again in 1983, the systems all go bonkers, indicating hundreds of incoming missiles. Then indicating 2 missiles. Then 0. Then 250. Hey, Jim what s your warning count on inbound missiles? 8? Mine says 98. WTH? This time, it was a burned out computer chip that caused the glitch. As was the case in the 79 scare, cooler heads prevailed by checking the raw data from our defense satellites, which showed no missiles. But none of this is nearly as terrifying as when the Soviet systems glitched out. The Soviet ICBM warning system came later than our own and was different in a way they thought would prevent false alarms. We had DTS satellites that scanned the whole planet s surface for launches. The Soviet system focused on just the mainland US s launch sites. Their satellite scanned the edge of earth s atmosphere, where a missile would easily show up against the vast, empty blackness of space. This would reduce natural phenomena being mistaken for launches. Pretty fresh thinking and to keep the planet safe as possible. Except their system was buggier than ours. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Undisturbed Pond had an evenness of .89, while the disturbed pond had an evenness of .606. This can lead to the assumption that the Undisturbed Pond has greater Biodiversity then the disturbed pond. This can be attributed towards the affect humans have had on the disturbed pond. The disturbed Pond has gone through many external factors that could affect its biodiversity. Harmful effects towards the pond such as dumping or mixing outside water could weed out weaker species, leaving only the most adapted to survive. The lab can be taken to a larger scale to teste biodiversity in bigger lakes that have or haven t seen human activity. Lake Sammamish versus a random lake in Fall City would be interesting to conduct (testing for biodiversity). A sources of error in this lab could have been that the samples came from different types of areas within the ponds. The disturbed pond s depth is different than the undisturbed pond, and samples could only be gotten from a small area in the pond. So it is possible the samples are from different depths within their ponds, and different species could be adapted to different depths, and there could naturally be less species at this level of the pond. Vegetation is also a factor that was not taken account of. One sample is from a highly vegetated area (undisturbed pond). There are naturally more species near vegetation as the use it for protection (Farmer Fred), so the results could be skewed. This suggests an additional experiment, one that could look for the difference species in the ponds, and look for the species that is dominating the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some doctors clean the wound with a mild soap and others use a wound cleaner. There are a few methods doctors use to debride an ulcer but the most common is where the doctor takes a scalpel and scrapes away all dead tissue within the ulcer and around the wound. If the ulcer has a lot of yellow fibrous tissue, the debridement may have to be done under local anesthesia because this can be a very painful procedure. Dead tissue has to be removed for two reasons; one it harbors bacteria so if the wound is already infected it helps clear up the infection and if the wound is not yet infected it greatly reduces the possibility of infection (Foot Pain Explained). Secondly, healthy tissue cannot form where there is an abundance of dead tissue so healing will be delayed (Foot Pain Explained). Depending on the wound, the doctor is the one who decides which method of debridement to use. After the cleaning and debridement, a dressing is applied. Figure 2 contains a low %DV since this food product contains 5% of fat. This product is a calorie reduced margarine that is from Becel. It claims to contain plant sterols to aid in lowering cholesterolof individuals who consume it. A health risk that is associated with too much saturated fat is atherosclerosis (Smolin et al., 2015). Consuming too much saturated fat causes the lipoproteins that contain cholesterol to increase in production in the liver (Smolin et al., 2015). This results in the reduction of receptors on LDL cholesterol so it decreases the amount of cholesterol that is removed from the blood (Smolin et al., 2015). This increases the risk of atherosclerosis because once oxidized LDL cholesterol is present in the artery it promotes the inflammation in that area (Smolin et al., 2015). This results in white blood cells sticking to the lining of the artery and mature into macrophages (Smolin et al., 2015). The presence of scavenger receptors on these macrophages increases the uptake of LDL cholesterol which become foam cells (Smolin et al., 2015). These foam cells tend to burst over time and form fatty streak within the artery (Smolin et al., 2015). Furthermore, the plaque begins to accumulate and could eventually ...
