Vipaka comes under the five concepts under the study of a dravya (Rasapanchakas). In Ayurveda the digestion & metabolism of any substance is explained in two stages:
Avasthapaka
Nishtapaka
Avasthapaka is the first phase considered as digestion.
In charaka the word “prapaka” is used as the synonym for avasthapaka.
Nishtapka or Vipaka is the second phase and considered as metabolism.

As a matter of fact basti is the most important item among the samshodhana procedures. However the term basti is derived from the fact that the basti yantra or the apparatus used for introducing the medicated materials is made up of basti or animal urinary bladder. Generally a basti is applied through the rectum though it may also be applied for urethra. In such cases the term Uttara basti is applied.
Depending upon the use of different drugs, basti effects samshodhana of doshas. It has also samshamana effects. Thus basti in its different forms has very wide application.
The 'Sutra' is that power of words endowed to mankind to express his thoughts in a short and apt form. These Sutras are the conclusions of exhaustive survey of several years corroborating the experiences of ages. As the definition of Sutra states.
The one which comprises of minimum letters but maximum matter which is in the form of confirmed pure knowledge, and also possessing the power of self elaboration is defined as Sutra.
The Sutras possessing such a broad speculum are collected to comprehend the Samhita or Tantra. But the essence of the Samhita is extracted in its Sutrasthana only. The main and important classic, which narrates Ayurveda Shastra, is Caraka Samhita, which is the foundation stone of Ayurvedic literature. This Dwadasha Sahasri Samhita is also divided in eight Sthanas, amongst them the Sutrasthana which is most important being the Adyasthana and is representive of rest Sthanas.
Just like a thread, which keeps all the flowers together in garland. similarly Sutrasthana comprises the essence of all Sthanas in seed form.
The nectar from all the flowers of the rest 7 Sthanas is collected to design the Sutrasthana.
The Sutrasthana lies as the Madhusancaya of the Samhita. This nectar of knowledge has been stored by Acharya Charaka in very beautiful way i.e. in the form of Chatuska Methodology.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HEALTHCARE.pdfAnujkumaranit
Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. It encompasses tasks such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and language understanding. AI technologies are revolutionizing various fields, from healthcare to finance, by enabling machines to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence.
Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

3. Objectives
By the end of the presentation the students must be able to—
• Illustrate doshagati from Koshta to Shakha
• Illustrate doshagati from Shakha to Koshta
1
5. Cont..
Vitiated doshas move
from the alimentary
tract region (koshtha)
to the periphery
(shakha) i.e. raktadi
dhatu and skin - due to
several reasons such as
excessive exercise,
excessive heat, intake
of unwholesome diet
and regimen, and an
excess pressure of fast-
moving vata.
These vitiated dosha
stay in the peripheral
regions in a dormant
state and do not cause
any disease till the
season or environment
is conducive for them
to act.
The dosha wait for
other favorable
provocative factors in
the form of the region,
season, etc. to cause
diseases.
6. Etiological factors of Koshtha to Shakha Doshagati
SL.NO FACTORS EXPLANATION
1 Vyayamat Excessive exercise leads to vitiation of Vata and increase in body heat
which helps in dislodgement of the Doshas from their place.
2 UsmanahTaikshnyat In pathological condition, these qualities are intensified. These are
responsible for liquefaction of Doshas and dilatation of channels leading
to Prakopa or Prasara stage of pitta and kaphadoshas in which Dosha
travels from Koshtha to Shakha
3 Ahitacharanat It refers to intake of excess of unwholesome food leads to vitiation of
Doshas resulting in increase in quantity and overflow like flood
4 DrutatvaMarutasya The vitiated Doshas deviated from normal direction by the force of Vata,
moves from Koshtha to Shakha.
8. Cont..
Five causes are responsible for the movement of
Doshas from Shakhas to Koshthas i.e. Upasthita
Doshatva like---
i. Vriddhi of the Doshas
ii. Vishyandana of the Doshas
iii. Paka of Doshas
iv. Srotomukha Vishodhana
v. Nigrahana of Vata .
9. Cont…
These all five causes can be
achieved by the
Poorvakarmas i.e. Snehana
and Swedana.
These not only bring Doshas
from Shakha to Koshtha but
also changes the form of
Doshas through which they
can be easily removed from
the body
10. Cont..
Vriddhi of the Doshas - Vriddhi of doshas can be done after the
Nidana Sevana, but Nidana Sevana may not be able to change
the form of the Doshas to Vishyandana simultaneously.
For Vruddhi of the Doshas, Sneha is consumed in empty
stomach in the morning (after digestion of previous night
meal) in such a dose which takes about 12 hours to digest.
11. Cont..
• Gradual increasing the dose of Sneha during Snehapana is to
acquire maximum utility of Sneha as Acharya Charaka says, if
Snehapana is not done gradually, it flushes out entirely from the
body (without affecting body) like water poured over an
earthen mass quickly flows out without moistening it.
12. Cont..
• Definition of Sneha itself says that, it creates
Vishyandata . Vishyanditata means Vilayana (dissolve).
• Lina Doshas are difficult to eliminate in their own
forms, Sneha creates the suitable forms of Doshas for
elimination. Sneha also facilitate passage of Utkleshita
Doshas in Srotas and Doshas float without adhesion in
the body, like honey kept in a pot smeared with fat,
toward the Koshtha .
• Ushana Guna is indispensable quality for the Swedana
because in Swedana there is always Agnisamashraya
either directly or indirectly.
13. Cont..
So Doshas get digested by the Pachana
property of the Ushnaswedana.
Here Tikshnaguna of Swedana also helps in
Pachana .
Swedana not only digests Doshas (Paka by the
Agnipradipti) but it cleans the orifices of
Srotas (also Srotomukha) consecutively. So
without Swedana Karma movement of
Doshas cannot be achieved.
14. Cont..
Vishyandana of the Doshas - Definition of Snehana
itself says that Sneha does Vishyandana karma
Paka of Doshas - Here Swedana Karma plays a key role
because Ushnata is essential Guna in the Swedana
Karma and Ushna Guna does Pachanakarma.
15. Cont.. Srotomukha vishodhana (to clean the orifices
of Srotas) –
• While describing the benefits of the
Swedana Karma, Acharya Sushruta says that
Swedana creates Nirmalatva (cleanliness) in
the Srotas.
• So Swedana cleans the orifices of Srotas
16. Cont..
Nigrahana of Vata - The first line of management of Vata dosha
according to Acharya Vagbhatta is Snehana and Swedana22. So
Vata dosha can be controlled (Nigrahana) very well by the Snehana
and Swedana.
In addition to this, form of Doshas transformed to Klinnatva and
Dravatva by Snehana and Swedana respectively, which is necessary
for the movement of Doshas toward the Koshta as well as for
elimination from the body.
17. Cont.. • Snigdha guna is indispensable quality for the
Snehana and Snigdha guna does the
Kledana karma . Drava guna of Sneha also
helps in Kledana karma . Ushna and Tikshna
gunas of the Swedana transform Doshas in
Drava form
