2. DJ is a very specific magazine as it only caters for one genre. DJ
music isn’t exceptionally popular so it’s demand wont be enormous
however it’s the biggest magazine in the DJ industry.
Famous DJ’s aren't very prominent so as expected the magazine
has to improvise for a front cover now and then. The front cover
contains a large amount of smiley faces, sized differently based on
whether they appear towards the front or the back of the cameras
view.
3.
4. The smiley faces don’t exactly relate to DJ music in any shape or
form except the yellow colour continues the unity of the house style
following the logo. The logo is however, mainly red so the masthead
is of course the same colour. The font is sans-serif and really gives
off that efficiency and cleanness you associate subconsciously with
DJ’s.
5. The same smiley faces appear once again on the contents in an
abundance. This is a good design element inputted to give the page
some life. The content on the contents are subdivided effectively into
unique sections with their own faded individual colour. This goes
against keeping a unified house style but dramatically intensifies the
vibrancy and excitement of the page.
6.
7. The double page spread is an ordinary approach. The feature
picture takes up around 45% of the space and the general content
about the artist ‘Defected’ lies beneath. There are no drops caps or
pull quotes, which meritoriously adds to the dullness of the page.
The picture towards right hand side is blocked by black box with
white writing contrasting with the ‘Defected’ logo. There are three
columns of text until 70% of the page along a completely different
format begins.
8. Two separate columns make use of the space, both long and thin respectively. They
manage to retain a unified house style by reintroducing the red form the logo as well
as keeping to the traditional black and white colours.
9. I have decided not to use most of the techniques implemented by
DJMAG due to the dullness of the magazine. I will take note of the
simplicity however and focus on the more intricate details that tend to
go unnoticed in analysis the magazines features. These include things
such as where the page numbers are placed and the dates etc.
