2. Initial Ideas
I will incorporate this idea into my
website, and photoshop two
images of the artist together to
recreate this illusion. The logo will
also anchor the theme of the
website; a black and white colour
scheme with any rainbow or pride
merchandise in full colour.
I have chosen the third logo
design because it features an
LGBTQ+ flag which highlights the
artists pride, an emotion she
addresses in all her songs.
The simplicity of the third design
means that it will be easier to
produce merchandise, such as
badges and keyrings, than the
other 2 more detailed designs.
Instead of the back-to-back ‘R’ letter
drawn in design three, I will illustrate
the logo with the reflected letters
above, joined together with no spaces.
This creates an illusion of two
silhouettes; one with their arms up in
the air joined above their head, and
another with their arms down.
This could give a representation
of community, as there are two
silhouettes in the logo.
3. Designing the Logo
To make this logo I
copy and pasted a
pride flag back ground
into paint.net.
I then tidied up the edges
since the pixels were a bit
blurry meaning the colours
bled into one another. I did
this by using the paint
selector tool to select the six
different background
colours, and made a
matching line for each one,
positioning it on the outer
edge of the strip to give it a
crisp finish.
To make this back to back ‘R’ shape, I used the font type
‘Yu Gothic UI Semibold’. I positioned it so that the left-
hand edge was positioned in the centre of the logo and
then I copy and pasted another ‘R’ into the layer. I then
flipped the second ‘R’ and positioned its vertical edge next
to the other ‘R’ to create this reflected shape.
I tidied up the edges of
the black lettering by
again drawing and
positioning black lines on
all the straight edges.
I then decided that I wasn’t
happy with my design
because it looked quite flat
and boring, despite the
colourful background. The
next page shows how I
developed my logo further for
my final design.
4. Final Design
This was my final design for the artist logo. I
decided to make the ‘R’s look three
dimensional by adding a white layer with
another black one underneath.
I had to realign the ‘R’ shape so that it was
slightly higher up in the centre of the page. This
was so that I could add the extra layers in
without the shadow effect meeting the bottom
of the image.
I had to crop the image slightly at the bottom
so that the reflected ‘R’ shape was spaced
evenly from the top and bottom of the image.
I also made the reflected ‘R’ shape
a lot bigger so that it popped and
was more captivating on the image
To finish I flattened all the
layers and saved the image
as a png file. I think the
final look is much more
professional and will work
well on my website.
