Historical Accuracy Of Pompeii
The movie Pompeii is based on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed the Roman city of
Pompeii. Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, destroying the city and killing all of its inhabitants.
The movie did do a fairly good job of portraying the correct historical details of what this day in
history would have actually been like.
For the opening of the movie the writings of Pliny the younger, a young man who witnessed the
eruption and wrote about the occurrences of that day, were quoted. Although Pliny had written the
description of the day many years after the eruption, it is the best description on what actually
happened. The producers of the movie also used footage of the actual ruins of Pompeii to help
recreate the city for the set and any green screen footage. By using photos of the ruins they were
able to rebuild the city over the ruins and were able to seek help from archaeologists to ensure that
the recreation was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance the wife of the mayor was shown as having more power in the business of the city,
but during the times of the Roman Empire she would not have held any real power. Also, the
destruction of the city did not match the real accounts of what had happened in order to
dramatize the story more. In the description left by Pliny, the city would be covered in up to
sixteen feet of ash and would have more molten lava flowing toward the city. In the movie it
showed large fireballs flying toward the city and not as much ash falling over the city. At the end
of the movie is where the ash begins to take affect, but it is shown as just a giant cloud covering
the city all at once, which is not how it would have happened. The casts of the people of Pompeii
were also created instantly in the film, but the ash didn t cause the casts, the casts would be created
in the nineteenth century by archaeologists who found the remains of the people of the

Film Analysis Of The Romantic Genre And Movie Rocky
Genre theory is used to study films and put them into a classification so that audiences know
what type of film it is before they see it. Genres are categories based on the story of the film,
sometimes the actors and actresses, or even the directors. All films fall under a genre or sub genre
category. Romantic Comedyis an example of a genrewhich is light hearted, humorous story
involving people in love, sometimes overlapping with subgenres such as screwball comedy teen
comedy, or gross out comedy. ( Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014, table 4.1). This paper will focus on
the romantic comedy genre and movie Rocky. It will take a better look at the specific conventions
of this genre and how this movie fits the gangster genre. Romantic comedy films create a comic
climate through a series of cues to the audience: subject matter is treated as trivial, jokes and
physical humor make fun of events, and characters are protected from harm (Grindon Leger (2015).
Romantic comedy films usually have a couple that meet and fall in love in some way throughout
the movie. In the movie Rocky Sylvester Stalloneas Rocky meets Adrian at the pet shop and
realizes she is the women he wants to be with. Rocky is a want to be boxer at the time who
wants to be a professional boxer and knows Adrian s brother from the gym. When Rocky sees
Adrian through the window of the pet shop he uses the excuse that he buys a fish and asks her
out. Adrian agrees and she is a very bashful lady, she dresses and looks very homely. Rocky and
Adrian starting dating and she supports him through his boxing career. The couple falls in love
and they get married. Adrian starts dressing nice and gets contacts to the point you see her
transform into a beautiful lady by the end of the film. The genre of Romantic comedy is pairing
two individuals into a couple with some comedy which Rocky proves to have. The comedy part
would be where Adrian asks Rocky why he boxes and he says because he can t dance or sing .
Throughout the film there are little conventions to show the comedy. The film Rocky the first
convention would be the setting. In the film it is set in 1976 in the low income part of
Philadelphia. This shows the Rocky and Adrian started out

Abigail Lies In The Crucible
In Abigail s pocket lie seven things: a tube of lipstick, crossed fingers, a phone, a packet of pins,
a picture of a couple with the woman scribbled out, a black book, and a business card with
Revenge Specialist written across the top. The lipstick signifies Abigail s affair with John
Proctor, as well as her beauty, which she uses to her advantage. Her physical appearance makes it
easy for her to appear innocent, as most associate beauty with innocence, and also ties in with
Miller s ending where she become a prostitute, using her looks to survive. The crossed fingers
indicate her ability to lie quickly and easily. Abigail lies constantly throughout the play, showing no

Police Training Research Paper
The cost of training a law enforcement officer after graduating the academy costs about $61,000.00
a year is the national estimates average. Then there is the costs of equipment, depending on the
agency some make the officer purchase their firearm. The officer is furnished uniforms, boots, gun
belt, taser, bulletproof vest, radio, handcuffs and other items. A policepatrol vehicle can cost
between $60,000 and $65,000 with the addition of a light bars, computers, video equipment, and

Rookie officers are taught what is widely known as the first rule of law enforcement An officer
is overriding goal every day is to go home at the end of their shift. They learn that every
encounter, every individual is a potential threat. They always have to be on their guard because,
as officers often say, complacency kills. That is the point of the training. A training situation that
an officer learns in the academy is a suspect leaning into a car can pull out a gun and shoot at
officers before they can react. Another training technique is when a suspect has their back
turned towards the officer; the suspect can spin around and fire first. With a different scenario a
suspect has a knife and is approximately 20 feet away, they can run up to an officer and start
stabbing before the officer can get their gun out of the holster. There are countless variations, but
the lessons are the same. Another scenario is if the suspect s hands could have a wallet or cell
phone, not a weapon. These are some of the risk officers face day in day out, this is why training
and officer s safety is so

Essay on The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The piano has been inextricably linked with the roles and expectations of women in British
society since its advent in the mid 1700s to the late 1800s when rising standards of living made
it more accessible to middle class society. Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction
1 and a wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2
Pianos were instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction
thus perpetuating the class system. 3
While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The
Piano expressed through the relationship with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the
longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a
supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this
moment.
Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an
obvious symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The
Piano. Men of both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump
unmusically on it when it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame
as Flora plays for him. Baines acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the
piano. The physicality of the piano and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many
occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for
parts of her body he is given permission to touch and see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked
to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing on the A key Ada loves George ; and
when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines in person, she removes a key
(G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart. Ada McGrath. .
Ada communicates in three ways: through Flora by

The Mafia of the Prohibition Era
Although the Mafia is most associated with the Prohibition era of the 1920 s when it dominated
crime in all major US cities, the true beginnings of the most infamous criminal organization started
quite earlier. Beginning in the late 1800s, many Italians immigrated to New York City due to
continued rumors of success in the area. This trend continued out of the 19th century and into the
20th as over 500,000 Italians immigrated to the United States (Sifakis). As Italian citizens migrated
to the cities of the US, they brought along organized Italian criminals, who formed an organization
known as Costra Nosa, translating to our thing , today we call it the Mafia.
In Sicily, the island southwest of Italy, a place historically invaded by foreign armies, a group
known as The Mafia with no criminal orientation began to grow in order to protect the citizens from
such invaders. Starting in the 19th century, members of the group began exploiting protection
money from various landowners and grew into the violent organization known as the Sicilian Mafia
(History).
In the 1920s, the Prohibition era just began in America and crime across the country increased
dramatically. Simultaneously, the very unpopular Benito Mussolini became leader of Italy. The
combination of mobsters needing a new home and America with a new demand for crime created a
destined path for the Sicilian mobsters. New York City became the new breeding ground for the
Italian life of crime, and with the influence of the

Today, I would like to bring up an issue that is prevalent to students lives. This issue arises
especially when students register and enroll in classes, only to find out that they re waitlisted. So
comes the long wait for the student who waits until his or her waitlist is lifted. During this time, it
is easy for miscommunication and confusion to arise for both the student and professor, and in the
midst of this chaotic scene are waitlisted discussion sections that the student may not know about.
The problem here in this situation is that waitlist positions in discussion sections are invisible to
student s eyes and are only shown to professor s and GSI s eyes. That is why I would like to argue
today about this issue. Hopefully, at the end... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the survey questions can ask would you want waitlist position visible for both student
professor access? This question can be familiar to a student who has dealt with an experience
where their waitlisted positions were not visible to them. Not only that, but student voices will
also give more value into fixing this issue because faculty members will realize that if many
students respond to this question, they will sense that this enrollment issue is a major concern and
will act to resolve this issue. Moreover, using surveys will help faculty members to realize other
students concerns with Cal Student Central. What is also crucial is noting the pros and cons of
fixing this enrollment issue. For pros, I believe fixing this issue will allow there to be better
communication between GSIs, professors, and students, transparency, and visibility. As for cons, I
don t see how there are any cons to solving this problem. However, I would like to input my opinion
that I do think that solving this problem will benefit rather than detrimentally impact people

The Book Of Job s Faith Sparknotes
Because the tides for the operation of the Temple had not been paid, the Levites and the singers
had left town and returned to their villages and farms in order to make a living. The people had
probably lost confidence in the spiritual leadership because of the lack of integrity of the high
priest Eliashib. The king appoints him as governor of Judah and he travels to Jerusalem. The
original core of the book was in a first person memoir. The book tells how Nehemiah, at the court
of the king in Susa, is informed that Jerusalem is without walls and resolves to restore them. The

It would seem probable from this that the psalm was composed in a time of pestilence, or raging
sickness, which threatened to sweep all the people away a supposition by no means improbable,
as such times occurred in the days of Moses, and in the rebellions of the people when he was
leading them to the promised land. Psalm 90, is the only psalm attributed to Moses, and picks up
the question of How long? (89:46; 90:13), and responds to the problem by taking the audience
/reader back to a pre monarchic context, emphasizing Yahweh as Israel s place of security and
downplaying human orientated assurance and confidence. This serves as a key signpost for the
following collection of Psalms, notably lacking Davidic superscripts, and commonly identified as
the Kingship psalms. Here, most of all is the explicit expression of Yahweh s kingship in the
Psalter, a motif and metaphor that has been consistent throughout, but is given particular shape
and elevation by the structural dynamic of the arrangement. In these psalms the kingship of
Yahweh is extended from merely Israel to much more than Israel all of creation and all the
nations. Such a move is grounded in the pre Davidic context generated by Ps 90, as well as the
appeal to creation for the basis of Yahweh s kingship. This emphasis on creation as the original
context for Yahweh s imperial rule means that Israel s own experience of God s historical acts

Corruption In Society
The Constitution is a plan for the government that was developed in 1789. The government s
role is to protect the people s natural rights and provide security for people. Throughout time
there have been changes in society, therefore the Constitution should have changes to fit our
society. The body of the Constitution is adequate for today s society but to help keep our rights
safe and to have good security, there should be minor changes to the Constitution. The
Constitution is corrupt in today s society because of technological advances, corrupt government
officials, and the federal government has too much power over state governments. In today s
society there are corrupt government officials. For example the basic person can t run for
President. You have to have money in order to run a campaign. So there are only rich people
involved in today s politics and they only care about how they can benefit themselves. Yates said
Purposes of gratifying their own interest and ambition. This says that people will and do abuse
their power for their own purposes and don t care about the average person. Yates also wrote to
call them to account for their misconduct, or to prevent their abuse of power. This states that it is
our responsibility as citizens to prevent or call out officials on this matter. If we are not careful
then the government could change into an aristocracy. Some officials that are rich only care about
money and power so if we let them in power then they could

Categorical Imperative Essay
Having argued for the view that hypothetical imperatives are wrong, I now wish to consider rival
views. The other imperative that Kant talks about is the categorical imperative; wish is known
to be the right one. Categorical, or unqualified, imperatives are the right kind of imperatives,
because they show proper recognition of the imperial status of moral obligation (pg. 128). Kant
named it, categorical imperatives (CI), which according to Kant is a strategy for control of
morality in any course of movement. The CI consists of a couple steps that I will explain below:
First step is to find a maxim, which is also known to be the general rule. Meaning, say you were
in the spirit to help someone who was in need. The maxim would be to help the person, but to
have no load of weight on your shoulders by helping them. The second step consists to see if the
maxim affects everyone. If the steps can be made available, then we obtain the maxim, and it is
considered to be moral. If they are not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
129). The core of this concoction of the CI is the desire of a rebuttal, in which has been debated
in what Kant had in mind. The first law is logical contradiction, where the given movement would
clearly be unimaginable. Secondly, Kant might have meant it to be teleological contradiction.
Teleological contradiction is where the top most couldn t be able to work in a functioning
manner lawfully in a well regulated system of nature. The third one Kant mentioned was the
practical contradiction, where my activity wouldn t be affective in trying to achieve motivation, if
everyone wanted to use if for that same purpose. Kant illustrates how the CI principle of the law
of nature works by applying it to each of these maxims (pg.130). Not only does Kant talk about the
principles of nature and the CI, but he also explains what a lying promise

The Origin of The Japanese Values of Precision And Punctuality
Introduction
Precision and punctuality is believed to be the order of the day in the Japanese society in both
workplaces and social settings. Punctuality is highly regarded as an important factor that has
contributed to the success of the Japanese economy in global scene. In 2013, the train transport
between Osaka and Tokyo recorded an average delay of six seconds only. There is a deep sense
of respect for other people s businesses with concerns that such activities should not be
interrupted due to lateness. However, the lack of flexibility has been faulted by critics who
believe that the Japanese people are too obsessed with time keeping and precision. However, the
origin of such values is still unknown to many with questions arising on whether such values
existed before industrialization in Japan. The fact that the values are associated with Japan s
position as a global economic powerhouse raises concern on the origin of such values.
The History of the Japanese Culture of Punctuality and Precision
Nara period
Heian period
The Tokugawa period Researchers believe that the Japanese were not punctual in Tokugawa period,
which lasted between 1603 and 1868. In 1857, a historical document by Willem Van Kettendyke
showed how the Japanese society valued modest and politeness but failed in keeping time.
However, the Meiji restoration period between 1868 and 1912 became a turning point for the
Japanese where time

The Theme Of Love In Les Miserables
Generally, authors compose books that go along with the morals of the audience. So many
stories are written today with the typical love story, girl falls in love with guy or vice versa.
Others are action packed with a climax and a predictable ending. Victor Hugo took a different
stance while writing his book Les Miserables. Hugo s idea of action is presented through Jean
Valjeanwho is held in prison for four years because he stole a loaf of bread. He includes unique love
stories unlike the typical ones that we read about. Hugo s main purpose is to challenge people to
consider their morals on forgiveness and love. While most of the town seems to turn against Jean

Hugo includes love in his novel to express the different types and meanings of true love. Marius
waits to see Cossette and she does not show up. After going to the garden and realizing Cossette
is not there, Marius was devastated. He sat down upon the steps, his heart full of tenderness and
resolution, he blessed his love in the depths of his thought, and he said to himself that since
Cosette was gone, there was nothing more for him but to die (274 Hugo). Marius love for
Cossette is so strong that without her he is incomplete. Cossette often received the short end of
the stick while growing up with Eponine and the Thenardiers; however, this is not the case
when it comes to winning over Marius love. Hugo uses Marius to show two completely different
kinds of love in his novel; one with Cossette, and the other with Eponine. Eponine lives a very
different life as her parents, the Thenardiers, are not the best role models for her. Even though
she grows up in a tough situation, she still knows how to love. Eponine falls in love with Marius,
however the feeling is not mutual. When Marius finds Eponine on the ground during the battle at
the barricades, he shares love with her as her life comes to an end. He does not have the same
love for Eponine as he does for Cossette. After revealing two gunshot wounds to Marius, Eponine
asks him to stay until her life ends. As soon as

Questioning the Reason of Human Existence on Earth in the...
In the play Waiting For Godot, Beckett questions the purpose of human existence on Earth and
reflects uncertainties in life through a series of meaninglessness events and acts played by the
characters. The play contains only two acts and involves Pozzo and Lucky, who meet Vladimir and
Estragon while they are waiting for Godotin both acts. Instead of evolving in a narratively
structured order, the play unfolds in anti theatre fashion. Through Beckett s use of language, set,
and the diminishing spiral , he presents the play in a way that one is not sure of what, if anything,
happens or the significance of the characters. Thus, Beckett seems to want his audiences to think
and analyze the play in a way that they normally would not.
As we already know, Beckett s play is anti theatre, which means that his play does not follow the
classical theatre format that unfolds in order from exposition, complication, crisis, climax to
resolution. In fact, Beckett designs the play in a diminishing spiral fashion, which means that the
play has no structure. It does not have a beginning, an end or a resolution. Besides a sense of time,
which is demonstrated through day and night and the leaves on the trees in both acts, the two
aimless characters, Vladimir and Estragon spend their time waiting and not knowing for whom.
The play has no plot and the characters do not develop over time. For example, the characters
forget about act I when they are in act II. This shows that the plot is not

Regular feedback and proactive counseling help to effectively close information gaps between
employees. The Marketing department suffers most from performance feedback at CrysTel.
They do not have a strong mentoring process in place and there is an issue with delegation of
responsibility here. 360 Degree Feedback provides accurate performance feedback to staff
members who receive feedback from a boss, coworkers, and direct reporting staff. Done
appropriately, it can boost performance and provide recognition and motivation (Debare, 1997).
Because feedback is intimately related to the goal setting process, it involves the same behavioral
outcomes: direction, effort, and persistence (Kreitner, 2003).
Employees of Technology Development department at CrysTel are encouraged to approach a
conflict resolution committee to address unresolved conflicts. Conversely, the Sales and Delivery
department only allows conflicts or issues to be raised only during the semi annual performance
review. This was indicative of a lower score than the other departments in this area on the climate
survey. Multifunctional roles carried out by members of this department causes overlapping efforts
and undefined responsibilities. Inadequate communication and teamwork make conflict resolution
difficult. Problem solving is the only style that represents a purely winВ–win orientation (McShane,

Psychological Aspects Of Sexually Abused Women And The...
Introduction The topic of this article will focus on psychological aspects of sexually abused
women and the trauma recovery and empowerment. Sexual abuse can be well defined as sexual
assaults and sexual exploitation of the individual, which include the following: Rape, Incest,
Molestation and Voyeurism. An assortment of 15 empirical studies will compare and contrast
their findings of psychological sexual abuse and trauma recovery. Individuals that are victims of
sexual abuse can undergo many issues for the victim to inflict upon. Despite the fact that sexual
abuse does mark males, women are at a higher rate to be sexually abused. In fact, one out of three
females is a victim of sexual abuse (SA) or sexual violence (SV). 13% of women and 6% of men
have reported they experienced sexual cohesion in their lifetime (Sexual Violence, 2014). Sexual
abuse not merely leaves a victim with lengthily problems but also a lifetime of psychological
difficulties when treatment is not sought after. Research further suggests that certain characteristics
of the abusive experience father daughter incest, physical force and level of sexual activity tend to
be associated with a more negative long term outcome in women (Coffey, 1996). Sexual abuse may
stint from early childhood that has continued to surface in adulthood or a specific incident that
occurred in adulthood. Either way the psychological aspect of abuse can be a vast amount of
emotional and mental disorders. For example, the

For all calculations, assume that: (1) Booth only performs unilateral procedures, (2) the first patient
cannot enter the operating room until 7:00 AM, and (3) the entire procedure for the final patient
must be complete by 12:00 PM. Also, note that an operating room is considered non idle when it is
either occupied by a patient or being cleaned between procedures.

The Collapse Of The Ottoman Empire During World War One
Background Following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire during World War One, Britain and
France divided up the former Ottoman territories under the Sykes Picot Agreement in 1916, which
established French and British colonies, as well as asserted their respective spheres of influence in
the region. The borders drawn under this agreement, however, have caused crippling effects still
felt today; the Syrian territory was comprised of a Sunni majority, and Alawite (a Shi a sect), Druze
and Kurdish minorities. The present day Syrian Arab Republic emerged from this agreement, and
formally gained independence in 1945. The current Ba athist Regime came to power in 1963
following a coup d etat led by an Alawite minority dominated military, overthrowing the Sunni
majority, Western oriented, capitalist Sunni majority. Prior to the coup, Alawites utilized the
military as a means of social mobility in an otherwise Sunni dominated state. Dissatisfaction with
the effects of Sykes Picot, and the puppet regimes of European imperialism that were in place, led
to the Socialist Ba ath party s nationalist platform. Once in power, the Ba ath party established state
sponsored capitalism in an effort to take control of the landed elite dominated agrarian portion of
the economy. Interparty turmoil eventually brought Hafez al Assadto power in 1970, who ruled
until his death in 2000, when his son, Bashar al Assad(the current president) took over.

Technology And Its Impact On The Medical Field
In the world we live in today technology is always advancing; having many great effects in our
personal lives and in the medical field, one of which being the technical advances on magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI). MRIs have been a great resource for us to use to help diagnose
people in a way we have never been able to before. A magnetic resonance imaging scan uses a
large magnet, radio waves, and a computer to create a detailed cross sectional image of the
patient s internal organs and structures, (Lam). Being able to examine patients in a noninvasive
way and take pictures of what their organs look like is a huge medical advance proving to us that
we can help diagnose more people in a less harmful way and are able to treat them faster and
give them a better prognosis. But we cannot forget what came before the MRI, which was
nuclear resonance imaging (NMR). NMR is the key piece to magnetic resonance imaging and if
it weren t for the discovery of NMR and it s many uses we wouldn t have MRI scanners. The
evolution of MRIs has left a profound impact on the scientific community, particularly in the field
of medicine. Before bringing up the topic of MRI scanners it would be useful to have some
background information on the science behind it all. Starting with nuclear resonance imaging, what
it is, the discovery itself, and how it became relevant to the topic of MRI scanners. NMR

Women Across The World Encounter Stereotypes
Women across the world encounter stereotypes. In the United States, our biggest stereotype has to
do with women s physical appearance, it is frowned upon to be overweight and to have curves. The
United States is seen as a modern country and the idea of a domestic household during the upraise
of the Feminist Movement during the 1960s 70s. That is the struggle that India is going through
currently. Instead of going with the wave of the new movement towards modernization, half of the
country is oppressing it and the other half is embracing it. The World Before Her is a documentary
over the two separate paths of two young women that are at the heart of the transitioning of their
country. One young womanhas hopes to become a model and win the nationally known pageant
Miss India which is equivalent to Miss America. The second young woman is the exact
opposite. She is tomboyish, she will kill to keep her countries values as well as train other
young girls to hold the same values as she does. The documentary was made to target the eye of
people like you and I, it is a prime example of the best of both worlds. The people of India may
benefit from seeing this film because it shows how their country is struggling with the preservation
of their culture but on the other hand, Americans may feel offended because the Indians that are
interviewed make it seem as though being modern is a bad thing. Modernization is not a bad thing,

Sociology 102

People are exposed to violence on a daily basis, whether it is through media, personal relationships,
or simply observed during daily activities. The few types of violence that are most prominent in
today s society are physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, and domestic violence. Domestic
violence is one of the most problematic and dangerous forms of violence that exist due to the
detrimental effects it has on the individuals directly involved, children who witness these acts of
violence, and society as a whole. Both men and women can be victims of domestic abuse,
however, Safe Horizon states that, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence during her
lifetime (Safe Horizon). Everyone who experiences or witnesses domestic abuse are affected in
detrimental ways. The abusers often have anger problems or lack of impulse control which only
progresses. The victims become physically and emotionally scarred and the children who fall
witness to parental domestic violence develop issues with emotional and behavioral functioning as
well as social competence. More often than not, domestic violence is a learned behavior by
children in abusive homes. Research conducted by The American Medical Association estimates
that over 3.3 million children observe spousal abuse every year (Bennett, 1995). Because of this,
children will believe this behavior is okay and may even

Infertility Treatment Essay
4 Types Of Infertility Treatment
Diagnosis is the first step in the road to infertility treatment. Both parties have to be examined
physically and tested to pinpoint why they are unable to conceive. Once the cause(s) of the
infertility has been identified, there are 4 typical infertility treatments which include, structural
treatment, hormone therapy, technologies for artificial reproduction and possibly alternative
therapies.
Structural Treatments
These are often the simplest to resolve. The treatment for structural infertility often requires some
kind of surgery to fix any blockages or irregularities in the reproductive system of either partner.
Hormone Therapy
There are two objectives in hormone therapy. Objective number one is to stimulate ovulation or
production ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The technologies have a number of differences. With artificial insemination, the man s or a donor
s sperm could be used. Invitro fertilization might use the woman s egg along with man s sperm, or
possibly one or two donors. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection may consist of biopsy at a cellular
level or genetic analysis which could be augmented by assisted hatching.
These terms might not be familiar and the procedures are complex. When using ART for infertility
treatment, there are a number of options.
ART is usually the most controversial of the infertility treatments and each procedure faces moral
and ethical issues. Coples will have to deal with these issues and figure out if it is the right
approach for them. There is often no single right solution.
Alternative Therapies
Alternative therapies are becoming increasingly popular in the fertility treatment sector. Even
naysayers are believing that fertility can be improved with the use of yoga, acupuncture and
massage. A number of fertility clinics include massage and acupuncture in their infertility

The Use Of Bacteri Lactobacillus And Bifidobacterium Essay
For every eukaryotic cell in the human body, scientists estimate that there are about ten prokaryotic
cells present, which means that more than half of what makes up the human body is 30 40 trillion
bacteria and archaea. Recent research suggests that this diverse microbiota is both directly and
indirectly responsible for human mental and physical health. As the human body develops, so does
the microbe flora. Lactobacillus acidophilus (L acidophilus), L. fermentum, L. plantarum, and L.
rhanosus are just some of the dangerous sounding bacteriathat are not just beneficial but essential to
proper human health. All of these helpful strains of bacteria are given the common name of
probiotics. Scientists are just now beginning to understand the immense effect of the gut bacteria in
human everyday lives and they, very well, may find that through manipulation of probiotics, any
disease could potentially be inhibited/cured.
There are two major groups of probiotic bacteria: Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium.
Lactobacillus, a rod shaped, gram positive bacterium, is the most popular probiotic used and can
be found in fermented foods, like kimchi, and yogurt. Bifidobacterium, a gram positive, non motile
bacterium, is the other probiotic choice approved for common usage. More and more bacteria are
being added to the list of potential probiotics. The benefits of probiotics range from prevention

Political Influence Of Interest Groups In The United States

Interest groups are associations of people which have a common purpose of advancing their goals
through political influence. These groups have a broad range of goals, tactics, members, and

power; However, as organized groups of people they perform certain actions to manipulate
politicians in order use policy to benefit their organization. Throughout history, interest groups have

That is to say they influence persons who have authority within a law making entity, usually like
minded politicians. These politicians will then create new legislation which will in the hopes of
the interest group benefit their goals, as well as create an easier route to even more radical and
beneficial changes. These new laws become the norm and work their way into the fabric of
American society. An example of this would be activists participating in the Civil rights movement
of the 1960 s. Since, the Civil rights movement was so large and endorsed by the majority of
citizens, politicians had to change laws because the public demanded it. Therefore, to ensure voter
support politicians sided for equal rights, and passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964(1). Another use
of interest groups was in 2008 when two entities which influence political campaigns had a
grievance with each other due to the airing of a political film funded by Citizens United(a political
interest group aiming to spread conservative ideals) about Hillary Clinton which was seen as an
electioneering communication prohibited by the 2002 Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, which
aimed to limit funds and advertising in the time leading up to political campaigns. Citizens United
saw this as a violation of the First Amendment on the grounds the government cannot restrict

We have looked at two different short stories by two different authors. The first story is called The

Allan Poe and the second is called A Confession found in a prison in the time of Charles II by
Charles Dickens. I have found out that that they both have a murder theme in common. There are
also other similar themes between the two poems such as early confessions.

The boy could also be a problem in the future. We know quite quickly that all is not well for both
narrators because they both hint of the outcome, and confess early. In A confession found in a
prison in the time of Charles II the narrator says I will set down the naked truth without disguise
showing that he will reveal the whole story. He also says My name is written in the black book of
death, which shows that he is line for execution for something that he has done wrong. The same
sort of theme applies for The Tell Tale
Heart when the narrator quotes How calmly I can tell you the whole story. This shows that
something is going to be confessed in the near future. Both authors use short sentences at the
beginnings of their stories.
They use this writing technique to build tension. This is shown better in the The Tell Tale Heart,
line 15 where he starts of the paragraph with three sentences in the first line. Now this is the point.
You fancy me mad. Madmen know nothing.
In The Tell Tale Heart, the only relationship is between the old man and the narrator. They seemed
to be good friends at the beginning of the story, as the narrator claims to Love the old man. He had
never wronged me shows that the old man had never done anything to offend the narrator or to turn
the narrator against him. This shows that the

Cell Phines Chould Not Be Allowed in School
ARRGUMENTATIVE RESEARCH PAPER SUBMITED TO: MRS PITA RHAM SUBMITED

First they used the home phone which is still used in different countries in the world. In 1834 a
man named Michael Faraday, was studying if space could conduct electricity and he came with
the idea to develop the cell phone. Cell phones are now used everywhere by anyone, even kids.
This brings a problem, CELL PHONES in school. Cell phones should not be allowed in school.
Cell phone has a harmful effect on teenagers. Student at high school should not be allowed with cell

phones... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the student has an emergency, don t you think that they should discuss the problem with the
school counselor? Plus if they need to call this can easily be achieved by phoning their parents
directly from school. Cell phones are distraction in class when learning is taken place. Many
schools in higher crime areas began banning cell phones long time, due to the business of illegal
drugs and other gang related activities. Students can be able to order and use illegal drugs
during school hours and could have them delivered right to the school before the end of the day.
This made it more convenient for the children because they are at school and away from the
prying eyes of their parent. In the case of bomb threats at school, the threat itself was probably
called into the school on a cell phone because of these devices; they cannot be traced by law
enforcement officials. In other words to trace a bomb in a cell phone is difficult and to evacuate
an entire school it s kind of hard. While most of these threats turn out to be hoaxes, a real bomb
could possibly be detonated by cell phone usage. Also if the teenagers take phones to school, not
every student will remember to put his/her phone on vibration, this can leads to classes interruption

Now I can t actually say which schools actually are best for these degrees but there are quite a bit
of schools that offer certain them. The one degree that comes up is Business Administration with
a concentration in marketing. On many websites this is the one that pops up the most so I will
be concentrating this paper mostly on this degree. There is actually either a bachelor s degree or
Bachelors of Science. In this case a bachelor degree seems to be best for the field that I have
chosen. This lowers the amount of schools that actually offer a bachelors degree in business
administration with a concentration of marketing. The schools that I found that offer this are
California State University(CSU) Fullerton, CSU San Bernardino and CSU Northridge. All these
schools offer a degree in marketing, which is one of main degrees that this field is looking for. An

The Civil Rights Movement Of Fareed Zakaria s The Rise...
In the following document I have read and researched two different points asked in the assignment.
The first is a summarization and my take on Zakaria s article, along with answered questions from
the assignment. The second is a research portion, provided by the listed sources, about the civil
rights movement. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Zakaria article and it was an eye opener
looking into the civil rights movement.
Fareed Zakaria s The Rise of Illiberal Democracy details his view on elected governments and the
ignorance and abuse of their power. He claims that they do not use their powers in the right way
and instead deny basic civil rights and liberties. Democracy can be defined numerous ways in
different countries. In Zakaria s definition, to paraphrase, a democracy is viewed as a process of
selecting government and is to always mean the rule of the people. In my opinion this definition is
very true when associating democracy with countries such as the one I preside in because we have
the right to vote for the people making decisions in individual states and, most importantly, our
federal government. To have a democracy intuitively means A good government . Following
democracy in the article, Zakaria highlights two other forms of government that contrast to
democracy and where they are used. Constitutional liberalism is not a procedure for selecting
government, but rather the government s goal . This concept of government rule looks out more
for the individual

Spiderman s mentors, they also have allies. Odysseus s allies are the Phaecians. After Odysseus

all and nothing to stop that freak since the person with dementia had no signs of resistance or
anything... Another thing, I don t think institutions where it is allowed/encouraged to have sex
should be allowed. What if that person has a loved one(s) at home that STILL HAVE A
RELATIONSHIP GOING!?!? I understand that intimacy with a person when someone has
Dementia can help with the mental disorder, but I just don t think that it seems fair to his/her son
/daughter(s) or husband/wife at home who wait all day and night to hear or worries from that
person(Dr. Pepper Schwartz, What are our rights when we re not ourselves any more?). I
understand how some people may think that humans with Dementia should be able to consent to
having sex, but think of it as if, a person is using another person because of their disability. An
example of this: So Tom (Husband)and Jackie(Wife who has dementia) live in the same house,
right next to them lives Jerry who just moved in and looks like Tom. Tom went out of town for
the week and trusted Jerry to take care of her, so Jerry goes check up on her and Jackie forgets
that her husband is gone for the week. Knowing that she had that mental disorder, Jerry took
advantage of her and got away with it without a trace... (A more simple metaphor/A more
simpler example) A boy who starves for sweets sees this girl and she has candy that the boy likes.
They hang out together for a bit until she runs out of candy to give to the boy, then he sees a girl
with chocolate chip cookies, so

President Obama s Semblance Of Education Reform Essay
Adversaries in the Race to the Top While many supported President Obama s semblance of
education reform in Race to the Top, various factions were vehemently against RTT and its
implementation. Republicans primarily stand against federal involvement in state and local
schools. The party opposed RTT advanced Common Core State Standards, which promote a one
size fits all approach to education(Spring, 2015, 63). Along with political factions, those majorly
impacted by RTT objected to its premise. The main teachers unions in the U.S., the National
Education Associationas well as the American Federation of Teachers, highlighted several points of
disagreement in RTT which would lead to challenges in implementation. At the time, the NEA said
it cannot support RTT s endorsement of using test scores for evaluating teachers, increasing the
number of charter schools, and bolstering what the union calls fast track alternative routes to
teacher licensure (Sawchuk 2009). Additionally, the AFT expressed concerns about RTT and how
much the program helps students, whether it is fair to teachers, whether it is transparent to the
public, and whether it requires shared responsibility (Weingarten 2009). Along with teachers
unions, members of academia spearheaded critiques of RTT. Joe Onosko s eight point manifesto
adequately details the concerns of educators at the time of implementation. The flaws of the plan
(RTT) are as follows:

The Iliad and the Odyssey are believed to be written down around 800 700 BC. Before then, the
stories were told orally. The poem the Iliad tells the story of Achilles, his anger, and his slaying
of the Trojan Hero Hector. The poem the Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, and his decade
long journey back home after spending ten years in the Trojan war that lasted a decade. Though
the events of the Iliad took place during the Greek Bronze age, the culture portrayed is mirrored
after the Dark Ages. The Dark Ages, dated around 1000 800 BC, was a result of the fall of the
Mycenaean civilization which is dated between 1600 1000 BC. The cause of the decline of the
Mycenaean civilization is unknown, but the fall of the society caused social instability, creating a
need for protection. This created a society that relied heavily on the warrior class. During the Dark
Ages, the warrior class are considered the ruling class. In order for a man to lead, he has to
demonstrate his ability as a warrior through his strengths and intelligence. These characteristics are
reflected in both Homers poem, in which the main characters Achilles and Odysseus are both

Into Neytiri
Into Neytiri
James Cameron once said Imagination is a force that can actually manifest a reality . This is
something James made true with the movie Avatar . He spent an abundance of time carefully
crafting each of his important characters for a specific reason. The movie Avatar has certain themes
that James Cameron wants to get the audience to see, and he uses the characters to bring the themes
trough. Neytiri is one of those characters so essential to the development of the story. Mr. Cameron
made Neytiri a dynamic, motivated, and major character. Neytiri is a dynamic character through the

anything for wether they asked her or not. That is the type of motivation the movie needed to
help give it a fire of passion that she brings to the plot. Something else Neytiri did because of her
determination is go on with out her father after he was struck by home tree as it was coming

Are White Women Attracted To Black Men
Are White Women Attracted To Black Men? Talking about interracial dating and marriage, it is
different strokes for different folks. A lot of white women are attracted to black men and a lot of
black women are also attracted to white men. However, most people don t really set out for this.
It just happens by chance. Most black men dating white women and most white men dating black
women did not plan it. They just fell in love with someone from a different race. Think of it, race
is usually the last thing you will look for in a spouse. Most times, people concentrate on body
chemistry, honesty, faithfulness and being caring. However, there are several benefits in black

When you date someone in another race, you will have the chance to learn his beliefs and
cultures too. Unfortunately, some people see this as a problem while it is a blessing. There is
beauty and strength in diversity. Apart from that, knowing about several cultures makes you a
better person because you will be able to relate better with people from other culture. More
successful relationship Of course, there is someone for everyone. This is not a myth. It is true.
A lot of people do not believe this because they believe that the person for you should be perfect
and never wrong you. The person for you is not an angel so don t expect him or her to be
perfect. Having said that, what if the person for you belongs to a different race from yours? As
mentioned earlier, there is someone for everyone and the one for some people may not come
from their race. It is not uncommon for families of both parties to disapprove the an interracial
relationship. So, just like how you will do anything to prove the family of your spouse wrong,
(s)he will also want to prove your own family wrong too. This is why parties of black white
relationships are usually more determined to make it work. In conclusion, for some reasons, some

Indian economy faces slowdown not recession
India is a different economy and known as one of the most promising economies in terms of growth
and investment.
India, with $1.1 trillion or the second largest GDP among the world s developing economies is
treading on the right path of sustained progress and development. While most Western economies
are heading toward recession, the Indian GDP growth is likely to witness a slowdown from 9
percent last year to 6.5 to 7.5 percent by the year end.
The Indian economy is immune to the global mortgage crisis, failures of banks in the West and
liquidity crisis.
Indian economy is based on robust fundamentals and enjoys the status of one of the most dynamic
and growing economies in the world with over 9 percent GDP last year.
India itself is a biggest consumer market with 300 million of middle class and the lowest debt
ratio of 22 percent of the GNP. The country enjoys the highest savings rate of 28 percent of the GDP.

McGwire and Sammy Sosa race to break Roger Maris record of 61 home runs in one season. The
two players both seemed to hit a homer every day of that summer. When the season came to the
end of that summer of 1998, both Major league Baseball stars were tied at fifty five home runs.
McGwire and Sosa both surpassed Maris record within the first couple weeks of September. The
Fans thought this was a once in a lifetime event in baseball because the last home runchase was in
1961 between Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Baseball attendance and interest substantially
increased because of the two sluggers. Home runs became more prevalent in the seasons that...

Leigh comments that players who use steroids have an unfair advantage over baseball players
who do not use them because steroids increase a player s statistics substantially. Steinberg
declares, Sending players with proven steroid use into the Hall of Fame is simply not fair
(Steinberg). Leigh also looks into how it would affect young people if steroid users were
allowed in the Hall of Fame. Steinberg points out that if steroid users were elected into the Hall
of Fame that young athletes would get the impression that steroid use is acceptable in order to
accomplish athletic goals. He emphasizes that young athletes model oneself after their baseball
idols so young athletes may start to use steroids if their idol happens to use steroids and still gets
elected to the Hall (Steinberg). According to Ted Berg, a sports writer who currently writes for
USA today and sports sites such as For the Win, profession baseball players who use steroids
should be allowed in the Hall of Fame as he explains in his article, 4 reasons the Baseball Hall of
Fame should include steroid users. Berg questions the baseball writer s choice to judge the lives
of baseball players and why steroid users are not getting elected into the Hall of Fame. Berg
argues that by allowing steroid users into the Hall that the Hall of Fame will get more attention.

My Life In My Senior Year Of High School
One event that was lifechanging for me was my senior year of high school I decided to be a part of
the Every 15 Minutes Program. This was a two day program that included juniors and seniors to
help prevent their peers from drinking and driving on the night of Prom. On the first day of this
program, every fifteen minutes that passed on the clock, the intercom would come on throughout
the entire school to announce that someone had died . This announcement would start with an
introduction that read, Every fifteen minutes someone dies due to a drinking and drivingaccident
and then they would say the name of the individual who has just died. After this took place, the
grim reaper would go into the classroom, in which the student who had died , and he would state
a beautiful introduction of that individual. The student would then put on a black and white mask
and go into a classroom and hide out there for the rest of the school day. In the afternoon of the
first day, the students who were apart of the Every Fifteen Minutes Program, including myself,
reenacted the accident for the juniors and seniors down at the football field. Before everyone
came out to watch the reenactment, the three other students involved in the car accident and
myself had to put fake, sticky, red blood on our faces, hands, and arms to make it look like we
were actually hurt and bleeding from the car accident. Then the four of us had to get into a

Paul s Contribution to Christianity
It seems strange that so little is known biographically about one of the most important figures in
Christian history, but this only serves to add to the mystery and grandeur surrounding the Apostle
Paul of Tarsus. Much, however, is known of the time after his conversion to Christ and what he did
to contribute to Christianityin this period, and it is this that leaves a greater legacy than the simple
facts of his life. The contributions that he made towards the cause of Christ and the spreading and
formation of Christianity are what he is perennially remembered for.
Paul is remembered as a missionary and church planter. He undertook three extensive missionary
journeys, estimated to have taken place in A.D. 44, 49 and 53. He spent much ... Show more content

Paul was not fighting against the Law of Moses he knew the law, and that obeying the
commandments would lead to happiness. But he also knew that Christ had come to fulfil the
law as messiah, and to reconcile the world to himself (2 Corinthians 5:19). He did not interpose
rejection of the law, but was polemical of Jewish Christians excluding Gentiles on grounds such
as circumcision. As he was later to say of the event, There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free,
male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
This teaching has impacted Christianity in history through the lives of individuals but most
significantly through the Reformation of the 16th Century. Martin Luther was strongly convicted
on this issue, seeing it as the epitome of Paul s teachings. Because Luther stood for this issue
unfalteringly, he was persecuted and excommunicated. He and his followers formed the Protestant
Church, turning away from Catholicism in disgust at their practices of indulgences to gain
salvation, making his mantra, the just shall live by faith. (Hab. 2:4, Rom. 1:17) This was scripture
that Paul had restated in his most famous and complete theological epistle, Romans. This influence
of Paul brought about conflict, but also good and freedom, and a new expression of Christianity.
Today, Catholic and Protestant churches still hold different views

Homeless Organization
Some people might think that the people living on the streets don t have a home because they didn
t make use of opportunities while they could. Even though that may be true for some, others didn t
have the best childhood and didn t have the money to go to school and be successful. I am here to
give them a second chance and renew themselves. I am creating an organization to build tiny homes
for the homeless. I have done some research about different tiny homes communities. There are
several in the US that have wanted to house the homeless, but none have specifically wanted to
create an organization and expand. One is located in Austin, Texasand they serve the homeless food
with a food truck. My goal is to be able to expand from Texas and go into surrounding states as
well. There are roughly 565,000 homeless people in the US that need our help, 20,000 of those are
located in Texas. If you have ever been to the DallasFort Wortharea, you have probably seen some

  • 3. Historical Accuracy Of Pompeii The movie Pompeii is based on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed the Roman city of Pompeii. Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, destroying the city and killing all of its inhabitants. The movie did do a fairly good job of portraying the correct historical details of what this day in history would have actually been like. For the opening of the movie the writings of Pliny the younger, a young man who witnessed the eruption and wrote about the occurrences of that day, were quoted. Although Pliny had written the description of the day many years after the eruption, it is the best description on what actually happened. The producers of the movie also used footage of the actual ruins of Pompeii to help recreate the city for the set and any green screen footage. By using photos of the ruins they were able to rebuild the city over the ruins and were able to seek help from archaeologists to ensure that the recreation was ... For instance the wife of the mayor was shown as having more power in the business of the city, but during the times of the Roman Empire she would not have held any real power. Also, the destruction of the city did not match the real accounts of what had happened in order to dramatize the story more. In the description left by Pliny, the city would be covered in up to sixteen feet of ash and would have more molten lava flowing toward the city. In the movie it showed large fireballs flying toward the city and not as much ash falling over the city. At the end of the movie is where the ash begins to take affect, but it is shown as just a giant cloud covering the city all at once, which is not how it would have happened. The casts of the people of Pompeii were also created instantly in the film, but the ash didn t cause the casts, the casts would be created in the nineteenth century by archaeologists who found the remains of the people of the ... • 4. Film Analysis Of The Romantic Genre And Movie Rocky Genre theory is used to study films and put them into a classification so that audiences know what type of film it is before they see it. Genres are categories based on the story of the film, sometimes the actors and actresses, or even the directors. All films fall under a genre or sub genre category. Romantic Comedyis an example of a genrewhich is light hearted, humorous story involving people in love, sometimes overlapping with subgenres such as screwball comedy teen comedy, or gross out comedy. ( Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014, table 4.1). This paper will focus on the romantic comedy genre and movie Rocky. It will take a better look at the specific conventions of this genre and how this movie fits the gangster genre. Romantic comedy films create a comic climate through a series of cues to the audience: subject matter is treated as trivial, jokes and physical humor make fun of events, and characters are protected from harm (Grindon Leger (2015). Romantic comedy films usually have a couple that meet and fall in love in some way throughout the movie. In the movie Rocky Sylvester Stalloneas Rocky meets Adrian at the pet shop and realizes she is the women he wants to be with. Rocky is a want to be boxer at the time who wants to be a professional boxer and knows Adrian s brother from the gym. When Rocky sees Adrian through the window of the pet shop he uses the excuse that he buys a fish and asks her out. Adrian agrees and she is a very bashful lady, she dresses and looks very homely. Rocky and Adrian starting dating and she supports him through his boxing career. The couple falls in love and they get married. Adrian starts dressing nice and gets contacts to the point you see her transform into a beautiful lady by the end of the film. The genre of Romantic comedy is pairing two individuals into a couple with some comedy which Rocky proves to have. The comedy part would be where Adrian asks Rocky why he boxes and he says because he can t dance or sing . Throughout the film there are little conventions to show the comedy. The film Rocky the first convention would be the setting. In the film it is set in 1976 in the low income part of Philadelphia. This shows the Rocky and Adrian started out ... Rookie officers are taught what is widely known as the first rule of law enforcement An officer is overriding goal every day is to go home at the end of their shift. A training situation that an officer learns in the academy is a suspect leaning into a car can pull out a gun and shoot at officers before they can react. Another training technique is when a suspect has their back turned towards the officer; the suspect can spin around and fire first. With a different scenario a suspect has a knife and is approximately 20 feet away, they can run up to an officer and start stabbing before the officer can get their gun out of the holster. There are countless variations, but the lessons are the same. Another scenario is if the suspect s hands could have a wallet or cell phone, not a weapon. • 7. Essay on The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano The piano has been inextricably linked with the roles and expectations of women in British society since its advent in the mid 1700s to the late 1800s when rising standards of living made it more accessible to middle class society. Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction 1 and a wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2 Pianos were instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction thus perpetuating the class system. 3 While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The Piano expressed through the relationship with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this moment. Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an obvious symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The Piano. Men of both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump unmusically on it when it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame as Flora plays for him. Baines acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the piano. The physicality of the piano and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for parts of her body he is given permission to touch and see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing on the A key Ada loves George ; and when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines in person, she removes a key (G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart. • 8. The Mafia of the Prohibition Era Although the Mafia is most associated with the Prohibition era of the 1920 s when it dominated crime in all major US cities, the true beginnings of the most infamous criminal organization started quite earlier. Beginning in the late 1800s, many Italians immigrated to New York City due to continued rumors of success in the area. This trend continued out of the 19th century and into the 20th as over 500,000 Italians immigrated to the United States (Sifakis). As Italian citizens migrated to the cities of the US, they brought along organized Italian criminals, who formed an organization known as Costra Nosa, translating to our thing , today we call it the Mafia. In Sicily, the island southwest of Italy, a place historically invaded by foreign armies, a group known as The Mafia with no criminal orientation began to grow in order to protect the citizens from such invaders. Starting in the 19th century, members of the group began exploiting protection money from various landowners and grew into the violent organization known as the Sicilian Mafia (History). In the 1920s, the Prohibition era just began in America and crime across the country increased dramatically. Simultaneously, the very unpopular Benito Mussolini became leader of Italy. The combination of mobsters needing a new home and America with a new demand for crime created a destined path for the Sicilian mobsters. • 10. Academic Affairs Vice President Today, I would like to bring up an issue that is prevalent to students lives. This issue arises especially when students register and enroll in classes, only to find out that they re waitlisted. So comes the long wait for the student who waits until his or her waitlist is lifted. During this time, it is easy for miscommunication and confusion to arise for both the student and professor, and in the midst of this chaotic scene are waitlisted discussion sections that the student may not know about. The problem here in this situation is that waitlist positions in discussion sections are invisible to student s eyes and are only shown to professor s and GSI s eyes. That is why I would like to argue today about this issue. Hopefully, at the end... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This question can be familiar to a student who has dealt with an experience where their waitlisted positions were not visible to them. Not only that, but student voices will also give more value into fixing this issue because faculty members will realize that if many students respond to this question, they will sense that this enrollment issue is a major concern and will act to resolve this issue. Moreover, using surveys will help faculty members to realize other students concerns with Cal Student Central. What is also crucial is noting the pros and cons of fixing this enrollment issue. For pros, I believe fixing this issue will allow there to be better communication between GSIs, professors, and students, transparency, and visibility. As for cons, I don t see how there are any cons to solving this problem. However, I would like to input my opinion that I do think that solving this problem will benefit rather than detrimentally impact people affected by this enrollment ... The Book Of Job s Faith Sparknotes Because the tides for the operation of the Temple had not been paid, the Levites and the singers had left town and returned to their villages and farms in order to make a living. The people had probably lost confidence in the spiritual leadership because of the lack of integrity of the high priest Eliashib. The king appoints him as governor of Judah and he travels to Jerusalem. The original core of the book was in a first person memoir. The book tells how Nehemiah, at the court of the king in Susa, is informed that Jerusalem is without walls and resolves to restore them. It would seem probable from this that the psalm was composed in a time of pestilence, or raging sickness, which threatened to sweep all the people away a supposition by no means improbable, as such times occurred in the days of Moses, and in the rebellions of the people when he was leading them to the promised land. Psalm 90, is the only psalm attributed to Moses, and picks up the question of How long? (89:46; 90:13), and responds to the problem by taking the audience /reader back to a pre monarchic context, emphasizing Yahweh as Israel s place of security and downplaying human orientated assurance and confidence. This serves as a key signpost for the following collection of Psalms, notably lacking Davidic superscripts, and commonly identified as the Kingship psalms. Here, most of all is the explicit expression of Yahweh s kingship in the Psalter, a motif and metaphor that has been consistent throughout, but is given particular shape and elevation by the structural dynamic of the arrangement. In these psalms the kingship of Yahweh is extended from merely Israel to much more than Israel all of creation and all the nations. Such a move is grounded in the pre Davidic context generated by Ps 90, as well as the appeal to creation for the basis of Yahweh s kingship. This emphasis on creation as the original context for Yahweh s imperial rule means that Israel s own experience of God s historical acts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Corruption In Society The Constitution is a plan for the government that was developed in 1789. The government s role is to protect the people s natural rights and provide security for people. Throughout time there have been changes in society, therefore the Constitution should have changes to fit our society. The body of the Constitution is adequate for today s society but to help keep our rights safe and to have good security, there should be minor changes to the Constitution. The Constitution is corrupt in today s society because of technological advances, corrupt government officials, and the federal government has too much power over state governments. In today s society there are corrupt government officials. For example the basic person can t run for President. You have to have money in order to run a campaign. So there are only rich people involved in today s politics and they only care about how they can benefit themselves. Yates said Purposes of gratifying their own interest and ambition. This says that people will and do abuse their power for their own purposes and don t care about the average person. Yates also wrote to call them to account for their misconduct, or to prevent their abuse of power. This states that it is our responsibility as citizens to prevent or call out officials on this matter. If we are not careful then the government could change into an aristocracy. Some officials that are rich only care about money and power so if we let them in power then they could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Categorical Imperative Essay Having argued for the view that hypothetical imperatives are wrong, I now wish to consider rival views. The other imperative that Kant talks about is the categorical imperative; wish is known to be the right one. Categorical, or unqualified, imperatives are the right kind of imperatives, because they show proper recognition of the imperial status of moral obligation (pg. 128). Kant named it, categorical imperatives (CI), which according to Kant is a strategy for control of morality in any course of movement. The CI consists of a couple steps that I will explain below: First step is to find a maxim, which is also known to be the general rule. Meaning, say you were in the spirit to help someone who was in need. The maxim would be to help the person, but to have no load of weight on your shoulders by helping them. The second step consists to see if the maxim affects everyone. If the steps can be made available, then we obtain the maxim, and it is considered to be moral. If they are not... The first law is logical contradiction, where the given movement would clearly be unimaginable. Secondly, Kant might have meant it to be teleological contradiction. Teleological contradiction is where the top most couldn t be able to work in a functioning manner lawfully in a well regulated system of nature. The third one Kant mentioned was the practical contradiction, where my activity wouldn t be affective in trying to achieve motivation, if everyone wanted to use if for that same purpose. Kant illustrates how the CI principle of the law of nature works by applying it to each of these maxims (pg.130). Not only does Kant talk about the principles of nature and the CI, but he also explains what a lying promise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2013, the train transport between Osaka and Tokyo recorded an average delay of six seconds only. There is a deep sense of respect for other people s businesses with concerns that such activities should not be interrupted due to lateness. However, the lack of flexibility has been faulted by critics who believe that the Japanese people are too obsessed with time keeping and precision. However, the origin of such values is still unknown to many with questions arising on whether such values existed before industrialization in Japan. The fact that the values are associated with Japan s position as a global economic powerhouse raises concern on the origin of such values. The History of the Japanese Culture of Punctuality and Precision Nara period Heian period The Tokugawa period Researchers believe that the Japanese were not punctual in Tokugawa period, which lasted between 1603 and 1868. In 1857, a historical document by Willem Van Kettendyke showed how the Japanese society valued modest and politeness but failed in keeping time. However, the Meiji restoration period between 1868 and 1912 became a turning point for the Japanese where time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Theme Of Love In Les Miserables Generally, authors compose books that go along with the morals of the audience. So many stories are written today with the typical love story, girl falls in love with guy or vice versa. Others are action packed with a climax and a predictable ending. Victor Hugo took a different stance while writing his book Les Miserables. Hugo s idea of action is presented through Jean Valjeanwho is held in prison for four years because he stole a loaf of bread. He includes unique love stories unlike the typical ones that we read about. Hugo s main purpose is to challenge people to consider their morals on forgiveness and love. While most of the town seems to turn against Jean Valjean after his time in prison, the Bishop continues to forgive him and walks... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hugo includes love in his novel to express the different types and meanings of true love. Marius waits to see Cossette and she does not show up. After going to the garden and realizing Cossette is not there, Marius was devastated. He sat down upon the steps, his heart full of tenderness and resolution, he blessed his love in the depths of his thought, and he said to himself that since Cosette was gone, there was nothing more for him but to die (274 Hugo). Marius love for Cossette is so strong that without her he is incomplete. Cossette often received the short end of the stick while growing up with Eponine and the Thenardiers; however, this is not the case when it comes to winning over Marius love. Hugo uses Marius to show two completely different kinds of love in his novel; one with Cossette, and the other with Eponine. Eponine lives a very different life as her parents, the Thenardiers, are not the best role models for her. Even though she grows up in a tough situation, she still knows how to love. Eponine falls in love with Marius, however the feeling is not mutual. When Marius finds Eponine on the ground during the battle at the barricades, he shares love with her as her life comes to an end. He does not have the same love for Eponine as he does for Cossette. After revealing two gunshot wounds to Marius, Eponine asks him to stay until her life ends. As soon as ... • 17. Questioning the Reason of Human Existence on Earth in the... In the play Waiting For Godot, Beckett questions the purpose of human existence on Earth and reflects uncertainties in life through a series of meaninglessness events and acts played by the characters. The play contains only two acts and involves Pozzo and Lucky, who meet Vladimir and Estragon while they are waiting for Godotin both acts. Instead of evolving in a narratively structured order, the play unfolds in anti theatre fashion. Through Beckett s use of language, set, and the diminishing spiral , he presents the play in a way that one is not sure of what, if anything, happens or the significance of the characters. Thus, Beckett seems to want his audiences to think and analyze the play in a way that they normally would not. As we already know, Beckett s play is anti theatre, which means that his play does not follow the classical theatre format that unfolds in order from exposition, complication, crisis, climax to resolution. In fact, Beckett designs the play in a diminishing spiral fashion, which means that the play has no structure. It does not have a beginning, an end or a resolution. Besides a sense of time, which is demonstrated through day and night and the leaves on the trees in both acts, the two aimless characters, Vladimir and Estragon spend their time waiting and not knowing for whom. The play has no plot and the characters do not develop over time. For example, the characters forget about act I when they are in act II. This shows that the plot is not ... The borders drawn under this agreement, however, have caused crippling effects still felt today; the Syrian territory was comprised of a Sunni majority, and Alawite (a Shi a sect), Druze and Kurdish minorities. The present day Syrian Arab Republic emerged from this agreement, and formally gained independence in 1945. Prior to the coup, Alawites utilized the military as a means of social mobility in an otherwise Sunni dominated state. Dissatisfaction with the effects of Sykes Picot, and the puppet regimes of European imperialism that were in place, led to the Socialist Ba ath party s nationalist platform. Once in power, the Ba ath party established state sponsored capitalism in an effort to take control of the landed elite dominated agrarian portion of the economy. Technology And Its Impact On The Medical Field In the world we live in today technology is always advancing; having many great effects in our personal lives and in the medical field, one of which being the technical advances on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRIs have been a great resource for us to use to help diagnose people in a way we have never been able to before. A magnetic resonance imaging scan uses a large magnet, radio waves, and a computer to create a detailed cross sectional image of the patient s internal organs and structures, (Lam). Being able to examine patients in a noninvasive way and take pictures of what their organs look like is a huge medical advance proving to us that we can help diagnose more people in a less harmful way and are able to treat them faster and give them a better prognosis. But we cannot forget what came before the MRI, which was nuclear resonance imaging (NMR). NMR is the key piece to magnetic resonance imaging and if it weren t for the discovery of NMR and it s many uses we wouldn t have MRI scanners. • 38. The Civil Rights Movement Of Fareed Zakaria s The Rise... In the following document I have read and researched two different points asked in the assignment. The first is a summarization and my take on Zakaria s article, along with answered questions from the assignment. The second is a research portion, provided by the listed sources, about the civil rights movement. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Zakaria article and it was an eye opener looking into the civil rights movement. Fareed Zakaria s The Rise of Illiberal Democracy details his view on elected governments and the ignorance and abuse of their power. He claims that they do not use their powers in the right way and instead deny basic civil rights and liberties. Democracy can be defined numerous ways in different countries. In Zakaria s definition, to paraphrase, a democracy is viewed as a process of selecting government and is to always mean the rule of the people. In my opinion this definition is very true when associating democracy with countries such as the one I preside in because we have the right to vote for the people making decisions in individual states and, most importantly, our federal government. To have a democracy intuitively means A good government . Following democracy in the article, Zakaria highlights two other forms of government that contrast to democracy and where they are used. Constitutional liberalism is not a procedure for selecting government, but rather the government s goal . This concept of government rule looks out more for the individual ... Another thing, I don t think institutions where it is allowed/encouraged to have sex should be allowed. What if that person has a loved one(s) at home that STILL HAVE A RELATIONSHIP GOING!?!? I understand that intimacy with a person when someone has Dementia can help with the mental disorder, but I just don t think that it seems fair to his/her son /daughter(s) or husband/wife at home who wait all day and night to hear or worries from that person(Dr. Pepper Schwartz, What are our rights when we re not ourselves any more?). I understand how some people may think that humans with Dementia should be able to consent to having sex, but think of it as if, a person is using another person because of their disability. An example of this: So Tom (Husband)and Jackie(Wife who has dementia) live in the same house, right next to them lives Jerry who just moved in and looks like Tom. The party opposed RTT advanced Common Core State Standards, which promote a one size fits all approach to education(Spring, 2015, 63). Along with political factions, those majorly impacted by RTT objected to its premise. The main teachers unions in the U.S., the National Education Associationas well as the American Federation of Teachers, highlighted several points of disagreement in RTT which would lead to challenges in implementation. At the time, the NEA said it cannot support RTT s endorsement of using test scores for evaluating teachers, increasing the number of charter schools, and bolstering what the union calls fast track alternative routes to teacher licensure (Sawchuk 2009). Additionally, the AFT expressed concerns about RTT and how much the program helps students, whether it is fair to teachers, whether it is transparent to the public, and whether it requires shared responsibility (Weingarten 2009).
