Claiming Victory of the Cold War Essay
Claiming Victory of the Cold War
What has been termed as the long peace by some has proven to be the most intense time period in
world history. A historical rarity, two superpowers fought rigorously across the globe for support,
each carving out their own sphere of influence. The bi polar of international affairs resulted in an
arms buildup between the United States and the Soviet Union; including weapons that exceeded the
atomic bomb, then the most effective and destructive weapon in price and devastation. Yet, to
everyone s surprise, the Cold Warabruptly ended in 1990 with the collapse of the Soviet Union
under its own economic weakness, its political conflict, and military farce. A decade later, we ask:
Who can claim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to give such a question its proper justice, we must first explore the world near the end
and directly following the second world war, the landscape, which in fact, birthed the Cold War.
The second World War against Nazi aggression was fought by the Allies on two fronts; The British
and Americans pushing from the West, the Soviets, alone, fighting German troops on the East. By
1945, without aid from the US or the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union began to gradually push
the Nazi forces back West, as he other Allies pushed from the beaches of Normandy. Soviet troops
would eventually occupy much of Eastern Europe, to the dismay of Roosevelt and Churchill. At
Yalta, Stalin assured free elections in the region following the unconditional surrender of Germany.
At Yalta, also, is where the Soviets, along with the English pledged support towards the United
States in the Pacific Ocean. It was at this point in the war that the United States and the Soviet
Union began competition, and possibly even earlier since the implementation of Lend Lease.
Firstly, the United States, without informing Joseph Stalin, sent two atomic bombs on Japan, one
on Hiroshima and the other on Nagasaki. Stalin s ignorance, perhaps, was a ploy of the United
States government, which feared the presence of Soviet troops in the region, believing that the
Soviet Union would want territorial concessions in Asia as they did in Europe. The Soviets
responded at war s end when, while he rest

Purpose Of Government In The United States
What is the purpose of government? Many of us wondered about this from the beginning of the
year and more importantly, as we walked into the government room. Now, as we round out the
year, we have learned all about government and what it s purpose truly is. We look back and view
many of those stating what they think the governmentis. That is when we have to figure out what
they are saying.
Thomas Jefferson was one of the many important presidents in our country. Jefferson states that
The purpose of government is to enable the people of a nation to live in safety and happiness.
Government exists for the interests of the governed, not for the governors. As one of his most
famous quotes, we can see why it is so important. First of off, it is portrayed through the quote that
the government is supposed to be there for the people. It is not just there to strengthen the country,
and leave the people alone, fending for themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are there to help and engage the people of the country to help make it better. We can see
this through many laws and reforms that were made which help many of us Americans.
Programs such as Medicaid and Medicare, which help the elderly and poor improve their living
conditions, and even improve their physical wellbeing. It is also important in protecting many
from all of the dangers that come within and outside of our country. We have a military that does
a great job, but if we didn t have someone there to protect us, then who would? The answer would
be no one. We would have a government which is a mess, and would leave people fending for
themselves. That would only leave more turmoil for the generations after

Research Paper On Steve Jobs Wozniak
Apple s very own, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, are possibly the most innovative entrepreneurs of
the 21st century. Steve Jobs, who often gets all the credit, and Steve Wozniak created many
technologies and products that changed the economy and the importance of innovation in the 21st
century. Jobs and Wozniak are credited with revolutionizing the computer industry by
democratizing the technology and making machines smaller, cheaper, intuitive and accessible to
everyday consumers. Wozniak conceived of a series of user friendly personal computers, and with
Jobs in charge of marketing Apple initially marketed the computers for $666.66 each. The Apple I

Apple was close to bankruptcy. We all know what happened next. Steve Jobslaunched one
innovation after another after another, revolutionizing computers, entertainment, music, retail,
mobile, and telecommunications. It s no wonder that CNBC named Steve Jobs the #1 most
innovative and transformative business leader of the past 25 years (Gallo). This is exactly what
happened when Steve Jobs returned to Apple. Jobs came back into the company as was so
innovative with his products, creating easy to use, fast, reliable products at a rapid pace. Innovation
comes from saying no to 1,000 things, said Jobs. When Jobs returned to Apple he dramatically
reduced the number of products the company made so each product had an A team. When Jobs
introduced the iPhone in 2007 he pointed out that while other smartphone makers were adding
features and buttons, the iPhone would remove them, making it simpler, cleaner, and user friendly
(Gallo). Jobs innovative technique to flipped the market completely around was genious and
exactly what the consumers wanted. Instead of adding a million features to his products, he did the
complete opposite and took all of the extra away. Apple introduced such revolutionary products as

LLLT Case Study
THE MECHANISM ACTION OF LLLT In the recent times, the use of low lever laser
technology has been suggested to be an alternative treatment to prevent the loss of hair and also
in the stimulation of growth of hair in both the cases of Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) and
Male Pattern Hair Loss (MPHL).The use of this type of technology has been suggested to produce
better outcomes, and also it has been proposed to have a low or minimal risk (Leavitt et al., 2009).
Previous researchers on the use of low lever laser technology in the treatment of Androgenetic
alopeciahave been limited regarding the sample size used for the study. Also, most of the

included in the study process, all the research hits were viewed and screened and after these
articles were examined for the relevance and the possibility of them being included in the study.
Those articles which were potentially relevant were then read thoroughly fully and then analyzed
fully to determine the possibility and the eligibility for them to be included in the final inclusion.
Those articles that seemed not to provide enough relevant studies on the use of LLLT for
treatment of AGA were excluded from the list (Lanzafame et al., 2013). Articles and journals were
marked as eligible for inclusion if they at least satisfied two of the following criteria
In the article, there were adults included in the study of the Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA)
The article in its study investigated at least one type of the low level laser technology (LLLT)

A Better Future with Green Technology
A Better Future with Green Technology INF 103: Computer Literacy Professor Robert Strain
February 25, 2012 We live in the 21st century which has been called the century of the
environment . Our nation s leaders and individual citizens are coming to an understanding that we
can not assume any longer that problems such as pollution, climate changes and the dwindling
amount of natural resources can be put off for a future generation to deal with (Green
Technology, 2010). There are many uses and reasons for green technology. However, with the use
of green technology we can have a healthier, cleaner and possibly longer future. In this paper, I
will be discussing just a few of those many uses. The term technology refers to the application of...

The U.S. military has a goal to achieve 25 percent renewable energy by the year 2025. Fort
Drum, NY has one of the world s largest solar installations which currently heats the entire base

which is aimed at reducing not only energy use on bases and also on water use and waste. The
U.S. Navy is aiming for half of its bases to have net zero energy consumption by 2020. The Army
is planning to install rooftop solar installations in as many as 160,000 private military home in
33 different states to help with energy costs (Westervelt, 2012). The Navy has commissioned a
ship that is energy efficient. It is called the Makin Island. It is the first amphibious assault ship to
replace its steam boilers with gas turbines. It is also the first Navy surface ship to be equipped
with both gas turbinesand an auxiliary propulsion system (Department of Defense, 2009) The
trucking industry is also continuously evolving to be be more green. Carriers are going with
cleaner trucks to get better fuel mileage and help cut out on harmful emissions. These days there
are numerous opportunities for a carrier to turn their fleet into a green fleet (Britton, 2010).
California is becoming more of a green state. The state of California passed new laws to where a

liberties of citizens are secure. Unless the government can prove that it has a very good reason to
control individual s freedom. By virtue of being human, all individuals are in possessions of certain
natural rights, such as the right to a free trial and freedom of speech, freedom of religion. Civil
liberties are freedoms that are guaranteed protection of people from an over powerful government.

But it became important during 20th century.
These liberties include freedom of thought, belief, expression, and assembly; protection against
unreasonable searches and captures; and provisions for a court hearing prior to government taking
of a person s life, liberty, or property. Civil liberty is not absolute, it is subject to limitations in order
to secure or promote the greater interests of the community. The State may protect civil liberty
through its laws against interference by other individuals, or through its constitutional system
against interference by any single part of the Government. But the State always possesses the
power, through its legal power, to limit and shorten or even destroy civil liberty.
During certain times the government may place limits on civil liberties. This is allowed during
war time or during other national crisis. People want to limit the liberties because of the safety
problem. Citizens have the right to challenge government actions by initiating legal action. In such
a case, the U. S. Supreme Court uses its power of judicial review, which included the power to
void any legislative or executive action that violates constitutional rights. Recent events such as, the
debate over gay marriage and abortion ensure that our conceptions of liberty and equal rights will
continue to rise in future. We can describe civil liberty as the story of managing the collision
between the need and desire of the

No Exit By Jean Paul Sartre
The play No Exit, by Jean Paul Sartre is about three people that die and go to hell. Joseph Garcin,
a journalist executed by a firing squad for trying to desert during a war; Inez Serrano, a post
office clerk murdered by her lover which left a gas stove on while she slept; and Estelle Rigault,
a woman who married an older rich man and died due to pneumonia. They all expected physical
torture in hell. However, all they found was a plain room with some furniture that always had
the light on, no windows, no beds, nothing that would reflect or work as a mirror. The three of
them were trapped inside the room. After discussing among themselves, they confessed their
crimes and deduced that the torture was psychological. They also realized that they had been
placed together so that each of them was to become the torturer of the other two. Each character
began to ask things from the others to fulfill a need they all had, which only led them to more
despair. Due to this, Garcin concluded that hell is other people (pag26). A. Petrusso argues in his
article No Exit that the three main characters of the play have in common a display of cowardice.
Certainly, all of them seem to be cowards at some moment and one character exhibits it more than
the others. He also argues that certain actions and behaviors are merely the cowardice of the
character when in fact, it rather seems more like fear. The examples and arguments used by
Petrusso seem to simply catalog the main characters as

The Technological Factors That Affect Ross Sales, But...
Not only does seasonality play a role in Ross sales, but also technology. Sales have been slowly
but steadily rising meaning that businesses are positively making profits and growing from past
years production and profitability, this is always important because one at all times wants to
see that the company is headed in the right direction as far as growth and profitability is
concerned. It is great to see that at the moment the U.S economy is rising for the better of the
businesses and of the people. (Amadeo, 2016) We need more of this positive streak to keep
going on so that more jobs will be created because of the companies doing good they ll want to
create more stores which means more jobs. Technological Factors. The technological factors that
I have noticed when working at Ross is that factors that affect Ross are their slowness to adapt to
the new retail systems such as using the chip reader for their customers cards in order to protect
their information, taking a long time to update the register computers in all their stores which has
a negative impact when checking out because if the computer crashes and has to restart then the
restart process is a lot slower. Not only can the failure to use the chip system for the card result in
a negative effect, but it can even have Ross be responsible for fraudulent charges on their
customers card. This is due to the fact that banks have given most consumers a card with a chip
therefore stores that have not updated to the chip

Their Eyes Were Watching God Figurative Language
The tides of love roll in and out, suiting each shore they meet, painting a picture of beautiful
sparkling, although sometimes turbulent waters. For Janie, in Their Eyes Were Watching God, she
grasps her life by the ropes and lets it take her on the adventure of a lifetime, never regretting the
love she felt and the hardships she endured to find that true and untarnished love. Janie marries
thrice, each time drawing nearer to the distant and seemingly unreachable horizon while gaining
bits and pieces of self actualization. The diction, imagery, and figurative language in Zora Neal
Hurston s (ADJ) novel produces a profound effect: allowing the reader to delve into the lives of her
characters and walk with them through their trials and their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Janie reaches far to gain this horizon she seeks, enduring bad marriages and suppression via her
Nanny and first two husbands all to reach her end goal. Janie finds true love in Teacake, her final
husband and realizes love means knowing when to let go of your beloved. When Janie sees it
necessary to shoot her husband to relieve him of his agony, she readily pulls the trigger, knowing
her husband s best interests. In the concluding paragraphs Janie pulled in her horizons like a great
fish net...and draped it over her shoulders, (Hurston 193) able to rest peacefully knowing she lived
her life to its fullest capacity. This metaphor paints the reader a picture of brightly colored horizons
stretching just beyond reach, and how Janie, through perseverance and her strong spirit could pull
in her horizons, just as every person in society strives to do.
FIG LANGUAGE Hurston introduces and concludes her book by utilizing eloquent, metaphorical
figurative language, as she discusses the differences between men s and women s dreams. She
describes the dreams of both men and women, stating that For some [men] they come in with the
tide...for others they sail forever on the horizon . This florid metaphor allows the reader to
visualize the hopes and dreams of men and gives the reader an idea of the overall struggle in
society. Metaphorically, the ships at a distance represent the struggle that many men and women
will endure to reach their dreams.

The Rise Of The Papacy Essay
The Rise of the Papacy There many Roman Catholics worldwide, who looks up to the Pope s
authority. The great question is, what is the foundation of the Papacy? The rise of the papacy came
at a very important time in history, after the fall of Rome. In 380 CE, Emperor Theodosius I, made
Nicene Christianity the state church of the Roman Empire. After this establishment, and the church
was the top religion in Rome, order was a must. The head of the church normally known as the
bishop, now known as the pope. What does pope mean? The word pope simply means father , and
in early times was used to refer to any important and respected Bishop. The Bishop of Rome was
looked upon as the chief judge similar to the Supreme Court. This position was suited to keep
order in the church. The first rise of the Papacy is undoubtedly to be sought for in the corruption
of human nature. Catholics believes that the papacy began with one of Jesus disciple, Peter.
They hang this concept on one verse of scripture in the Bible. The Bible declares, I also say to
you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church: and the gates of Hades will
not overpower it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on
earth shall have been bound in heaven, and what every you loose on earth shall have been loosed in
heaven. Since, Christ have put this charge on Peter many believe the papacy started with him.

Pros And Cons Of Oral History
Oral history has been a vital source of historical and important information since the beginning of
human interaction. Recordings and one on one interviews with someone who lived through a
certain time period or particular event can often provide a substantial amount of information and
evidences on a subjectthat one may be researching. Unfortunately oral historydoes has its flaws,
and it does not always provide the best source of information. Often information from direct
interviews and other forms of oral history can be misinterpreted and inaccurate. There are quite a
few pros and cons when using oral history as a source of evidence. These pros includes first hand
accounts of a certain event, person, and/or time period, next access to information not available in
books, articles, or journals, and finally oral history allows for different views and opinions on a
subject matter the opportunity to be heard that otherwise wouldn t. There also are several cons
when using oral history as a source of evidence. As mention earlier information from oral history
can and has often been misinterpreted and inaccurate. Another con includes biases and ideology
differences effecting personal accounts of an event or person. The final con is the creditability of
the actually source. In the Hochschild book and the interviewwith Stalin s daughter, these pros and
cons are present. Having a first hand account of a historical event or person can be extremely
useful. Someone from a

The Gods In The Epic Of Gilgamesh Epic
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, there are many different character types. We see king and queens,
subjects and Gods. In this epic, the Gods come off as very powerful and interfere with the lives of
humans as they chose. In the text, there are many examples of the Gods trying to control human
lives in specific ways. The Gods see the courage and strength in Gilgamesh so Anu, the Sky God,
summons Aruru to create a perfect partner for Gilgamesh. The earliest example we see of Gods
running interference is the Goddess of Creation, Aruru, creates Enkidu. Enkidu s purpose is to be a
perfect counterpart of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu fight to see who is stronger, but they are
evenly matched. This brings the idea of separate but equal between the two individuals. Instead of
the two being enemies, they come about as being ally s in many battles. Throughout this epic you
see how the Gods are symbolic, how they affect daily events, and how fate is on their side.
The Gods are symbolic because they are fully divine. Although Gilgamesh is two thirds divine, he
is still mortal and will die. He wants to be like a God and let his name ... Show more content on

Fate is on the God s side because they can change the outcome to whatever they want it to be.
Since Gilgamesh and Enkidu killed the Bull of Heaven, Enkidu gets ill and slowly dies. Fate can
somewhat be compared to cause and effect. For example, because Gilgamesh rejects Ishtar, she gets
her father to send the Bull of Heaven. The Bull of Heaven was a threat to the people and
agriculture, so Gilgamesh and Enkidu defeat it. All of this could have been avoided if Gilgamesh
would have accepted Ishtar s offer. Since Gilgamesh was close to Enkidu during the time of his
death, Gilgamesh now fears death. This causes Gilgamesh to go through withdrawals and to try to
gain immortality. Gilgamesh fails on his quest for eternal life. This is where Gilgamesh realizes
that death cannot be avoided and that it is

As the main character, Hamlet presents the audience with an image of the renaissance man, one
who offers insights into how one might deal with complex emotions such as love and grief. The
audience follows Hamlet on his journey to avenge his father s death, which was brought about by
his late father s brother, Claudius, the current reigning king. The story clearly centres around the
ever hesitant prince and his struggle to enact his revenge. It is Hamlet s procrastination and inability
to act that drives the story to its disastrously orchestrated end. Despite all his faults, the audience
feels a sense of affection for the young prince and connect with him on a level that is unavailable
with the other characters. It is in this connection that the interest of the audience is captured, such
that one can almost experience his joy and his grief, or his jealousy and love, all things that are
encountered by modern day humans. All the choices that Hamlet makes, allows the audience to
understand his character a little better. No doubt, this is the result of good acting and excellent
play writing, however, there is an element of value that only time brings. Another character that
must be examined, is the aforementioned, Ophelia. Stuck in an Elizabethan world where

My First Day
My First Time at The Lake
My first time at the lake I can remember it like it was yesterday. It had a teardrop silver color to
it, and from where I was standing I couldn t see anything but miles and miles of water. As if it
never ended. I could feel the wind as it blew my new hair do, and caressed my cheekbones. The
air smelled of fresh water and the sand was soft between my toes. The scene was magnificent,
and the only sound was birds chirping from afar. I think back to the smell of the fresh cut grass
and the way the sun was shining bright in the clear blue sky. I remember running to the water
bending down to take a sip, it was beautiful I just knew it had to taste as good as it looked. Most of
all I can remember it being relaxing and beautiful, and I couldn t wait to get started on our first
weekend at the lake with my family. On our first day we all decided to go fishing me, my mother,
and my dad. Which was funny because I m terrified of worms and fish. I m terrified of anything
that s not human and has four or more legs. Soon my dad began gathering the fishing equipment,
and my mother started putting the rest of the things on the boat, in the mean time I decided to
pick up some rocks and throw them in the lake. Each one that hit the water made ripples, and I ll
never forget the funny noise they made as they hit sinking to the bottom of the lake. After my dad
saw what I was doing I remember him getting frustrated and telling me that I was going to scare

Design Patterns
Literature Review
Chapter One
Introduction
What is a Design Pattern?
A design pattern solves a problem within a given context. The solution that is offered by
implementing a pattern results in a system design structure, which balances the concerns of the
design problem in a manner most appropriate for the given context. In Understanding and Using
Patterns in Software Development , Dirk Riehle and Heinz Zullighaven offer a rather nice
definition of what a design pattern is:

The patterns described in the GoF book are illustrated in C++; a programming language that has
been declining in use over the last number of years, which limits the learning of patterns in today s
development environment where the dominant programming language taught and used, as far as
patterns are concerned is Java, although patterns can be implemented in any object orientated
programming language.
The patterns exhibited are described in very concise and restricted examples that lack a
comprehensive context in order for the reader to gain a full understanding of the use of the pattern
in question. The patterns throughout the book are also presented in isolation to each other which
hinders the illustration of pattern interaction and thus the full benefit to those wishing to learn how
to implement design patterns.
Allen Holub produced a book Holub on Patterns Learning Design Patterns by Looking at Code ,
which detailed the use of design patterns while developing a game called Game of Life. The
Game of Life is a cellular automation program, which begins with cells that are classed as either
alive or dead . The idea is then that each cell follows a set of rules to determine which whether it
can live or whether it must die .
Holubs book, published in 2004 addressed some of the shortcomings of the GoF publication, such
as the patterns were now demonstrated in Java, which has become the favoured language of the

Living In New York City
New York City, the American dream s shining icon and the cultural mixing pot, was just a name
I knew when I was young. Nine years ago, I finally set foot in the fabled city when my family
immigrated to the United States. The gigantic airport, JFK International, spanned miles and its
terminals stood proudly over the jumbo jets below. That night, nausea from the plane s
descension and the entropic motions of my aunt s Jeep dissuaded me from seeing the outside
world. I rested my head on my mom s lap while imagining what the city was like. Just a few days
ago, I lived in ShenZhen. On the opposite side of the Hong Kong, ShenZhen shared much of its
prosperity. Thus, I believed that New York City
is no different from where I lived. However, I
wanted to see the subway system that many other cities modeled after. I was also interested in
learning the American culture, such as religions and holidays. The concept of religion was alien
to me, partly because most people in China were atheists. I woke up early in the morning, eager
to see the snow outside and all the foreign novelties. In the kitchen, my aunt and cousin were
making toast and took out glass bottles of Snapple. After breakfast, I conversed with him in
broken English. We had many common interests, namely video games and biking. So adhering to
those, I spent the next few days growing accustomed to the new city. New York City, in its grand
size, cannot be explored in a few days or weeks. Its complexity, in spite of the

The Mapping Of Ip Addresses
ABSTRACT: The mapping of IP addresses to host names is a major problem in rapidly growing
internet. The higher level binding effort went on increasing to different level of development up to
the currently used Domain Name System. DNS, being an open source, it is less secured and it has
no means of determining whether domain name data comes from an authorized domain owner. So
these vulnerabilities lead to a number of attacks. Hence, there is a need of securing DNS. Using
Advanced Encryption Standards, it performs normal encryption. By reversing this encryption,
decryption is also performed. Domain Name Systemhas number of workgroups and these

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime Analysis
Every day, we are faced with decisions that challenge our moral values. Having a straight needle
on an individual s moral compass is always one of the best things that they can have. It teaches
them right from wrong, and tells them when they have to interfere and do the right thing. This
summer, the theme of this project was to do the right thing , and I was required to read two
books. I chose to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, as well
as Going Bovine by Libba Bray. Both books immediately grabbed me by the hand and took me into
their worlds, along with learning the important lessons behind both Christopher and Cameron s
stories. The emotions of each individual character play an important part in the development of the
characters, as well as the storyline. In Going Bovine, one emotion I noticed... Show more content on

King Lear being man, feels threatened, that Goneril, a woman has the power to take away his male
dominance. This shows Goneril challenging gender roles because during that time, women
stereotypically wouldn t have the power to be in a significant position of authority. Again another
act of defiance from Goneril is present in Act 4 Scene 2 Line 16, I must change names at home,

This can be seen in Act 4 Scene 2 Line 55 Goneril says France spreads his banners in our

role as a man and a king to defend his country against France. Instead of being a man and doing
that, all he does is complain, whine and cry. Albany has failed to play the male role as he is not
stepping up to the plate to defend his country, but instead, acts very feminine being more emotional

The Effects of AIDS and the Media on the Gay Liberation Movement: The Constitution promises
liberty for all, regardless of one s sexual orientation. However, throughout courses of history in
America, homosexuals have lived in a conformist climate, and they have experienced various levels
of discrimination. Despite this, America also provided homosexuals with the power to fight their
oppressors, thus the Gay Liberation Movement. This movement was not one of linear pattern,
especially because of the effects of AIDS and the media. As a result of pre existing discrimination
and the stereotyping of homosexuals, the media and the public stigmatized AIDS, which
temporarily halted the progress of the Gay Liberation Movement; however, after the devastating
effects of the AIDS epidemic, the movement advanced as the media shifted the discussion of AIDS
and allowed for homosexuals to fight for proper treatment, research, and rights. Due to a conformist
society in which homosexuals felt oppressed by conservative views, homosexuals were
discriminated against and ridiculed, causing interruptions in the movement and a difficulty
advocating for their rights. Due to homosexuals lack of conformity to societal norms, many
believed homosexuals were not normal and needed to be fixed . So, doctors and psychiatrists used
electrical shock treatment; when homosexuals protested this and disrupted the psychiatrist parley,
their defense was that unhappy homosexuals came to them and requested

floppy disk piracy was so popular that a campaign called Don t Copy That Floppy started (Smith).
The campaign mainly featured little white kids rapping about floppy disks.
The controversy which defined file sharing for this period surrounded one file format the mp3
(Smith). In the late 1990s, Napster, a web service that provided mp3 files to people who paid a
small subscription fee, was founded and was known for hosting a large amount of mp3 files that
anybody could download. That same year a service called Audiogalaxy was created as well. The
two sites had friendly competitions to see who could get more web traffic and downloads. Napster
was shut down due to copyright infringement in 2001. Audiogalaxy closed soon after due to
pressure caused by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and was sold to Vivendi
Universal, a company that would later turn the service into Rhapsody.
In the same year that Napster was shut down, Windows released its new software version which
would replace Windows 98. Windows XP, released in 2001, included a feature called Simple File

Examples Of Emotional Contagion
Emotional Contagion Emotional contagion is an act where people receive and mimic emotions of
others. This includes the imitation of facial expression, vocal, postures and behavior of those
around them (Hatfield, Cacioppo, Rapson, 1993). Emotional contagion happens unconsciously; a
person who is not afraid of ghost might get scared from watching a horror filmbecause their friends
get very involved with the content. Mass communication depends on emotional contagious as it is
a key to successful advertisements, political campaigns and films. There will be several real life

Five Pillars Of Islam, The Most Important Article Of Faith
Five pillars of Islam, are spiritual practices that define what it means to be a member of the
Muslim community and believe in Islam. Shahadah, is the first pillar of Islam. This is a self
profession of faith, an inner testimony of faith. There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his
true prophet. Shahadah is considered the most important article of faith. The Qur an says that in
those with true faith should tell others, giving them information to make an intelligent choice in
regards to faith and religion. At the same time one must respect all prophets and all revealed
religions. Salat, ritual prayer is the second pillar of Islam. The call to prayer and an affirmation of
Gods unity. There are five daily prayers starting at sunrise, midday, afternoon, sunset, and after
night falls. The time of each prayer changes from day to day with the orientation of the sun in
the heaven. These prayers are continuous reminders for Muslims to submit to God, keeping them
on a pure path, rejuvenating their faith, and giving thanks to God for all of the blessings they
enjoy. Prior to each prayer one must ritually purified and cleanse one s self both spiritually and
physically in preparation for prayer. There is strict gender segregation during prayer. The Quiblah
in each Muslim mosque faces in the direction of Mecca, which is the way one prays, facing the Ka
bah. Prayer starts with Allahu Akbar (Allah is great), standard resuscitation Devotional verses,

Essay On Racial Disparities
Experiencing racial disparities can permit an increasing level of stress over the years, yet buffering
mechanisms can be used to decrease the impact of adverse experiences. Based on Brody et al.

youth with high emotional support. Accessing emotional supportive networks of family and peers
can help readjust behavior and counterbalance cognitive trajectories that reduce anxiety and stress.
Another buffering tool can be offered from a parent or caregiver, by providing an informative
introduction of discrimination. Comprehension of societal variances allows children to obtain
cognitive skills, which they are able to build awareness that can help distinguish discriminatory
treatment and gain a greater perception of others cognition (Bynum et al. 2014). Also,

Theme Of Death In Edgar Allan Poe Death
Death in Edgar Allan Poe s short stories
Death is one of the well known themes of Edgar Allan Poe s art, in which the author captures the
physical signs, decomposition, the sensation of feeling buried alive, the reanimation of the death or
the mourning. Most of the works of Edgar Allan Poe have a dark atmosphere, full of mystery. These
works illustrate the dramatic events, explores the dark side of human relationships and offer
visions of the sublime. The works explore the tragedy that brings one to the edge of madness
where nothing seems real, the place where the soul disintegrates, leaving only the essence of a life
unfulfilled bitter. Poe was a master of the Gothic horror tale, although many might not as readily be

Compare And Contrast My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover
Robert Browning (7 May 1812 12 December 1889) was an English poet and scriptwriter whose
mastery of the dramatic monologue made him one of the most prominent Victorian poets. Within
his collection were two of his most renowned works,
My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover . In My Last Duchess the speaker is an
Italian Duke who is speaking to the ambassador about his daughter, who he intends to marry. The
Duke then begins to flaunt his gallery of art with the intent to impress. He then comes across the
painting of his last duchess in which openly speaks about having her murdered for lack of respect
for him. Porphyria s Lover is a dramatic monologue that describes the events that eventually lead
to the death of Porphyria. The speaker lives in a cottage in the countryside. His lover, a gorgeous
young woman named Porphyria, comes in out of a storm and attempts to bring cheer to the
cottage. She caresses the speaker, offering him her bare shoulder. Realizing that she will eventually
give in to society s pressures, and wanting to conserve the moment, he wraps her hair around her
neck and strangles her. He then adjusts her corpse, opening the eyes and propping the body up
against his side. He sits with her body this way the entire night, the speaker declaring that God has
not yet punished him. Although these two poems share many similarities, the differences can be
discovered through the analysis of the language, themes, and the feelings the reader experiences
while reading these poems. As a result of these poems being published in a collection, the structure
of the two poems shares many attributes. Although the rhyme scheme is different to add a unique
feel to the poem, they both consist of 1 long stanza. Doing this, Browning added a sense of
suspense to each poem by having the reader continuously read without any real transitions.
Rhyming couplets show control and the rhyme scheme in My Last Duchess, is rhyming couplets the
whole way through, which shows that the Duke evidently had controlled the whole poem. In
Porphyria s Lover, there are only rhyming couplets in the end, as he kills her, this is the only time
in the whole poem where he has control. Both poems contain a multitude of caesuras within

Even though it will not protect from total injury or death, it is helpful by doing the duty of
cushioning the passengers. Like seatbelt does, airbags decrease the impact that passengers
receive directly and also reduce the force by spreading it over wide areas. For other parts in the air
bag, there is Crash Sensor that is in the car to sensor the force receives when car accident happens
and the direction of an impact. When the sensor detects the force highly enough, it sends the sign
which will set off the igniter and that will lead up to inflating the air bag. When a car receives a
harsh crash, small electric charge will run and the chemicals around them will create a gas and that
is the principle of inflating the air

Abstract
During the 1920s and 1930s, Britain saw a movement of its inner city industries moving out to
adjacent sites which lead to Britain s road network to be redeveloped.
Britain s first motorway , the 13 km Preston bypass was opened in 1958, and following this the
Goverment planned to improve 6750km of road to at least dual carriageway standard to form
strategic inter urban network for England. This network was marked as a national commitment,
which would enhance road safety, be easily connected to all major centres of population, promote
economic growth and regional development.

Football Targeting Rules Essay
The Targeting Rule Should Be Taken Out of Football
What do you expect when big grown men are running and hitting each other full speed?
Throughout the history of football, hard hits have been a major part of the sport. It is a rough
and physical sport that is not for everyone. Over the past 5 years, more rules have been set in
place to protect players from suffering concussions. The targeting rule has gotten so severe, that
you can now get ejected from a game. The severity of the new rules are not good for the sport, and
they need to be changed.
Football is a one of the most violent sports that anyone can play. Trying to make it safe is almost
impossible. The consequences of the rules have gotten so serious, that it has effected the way that
players play the game now. The rule changes has caused defensive players to play more
conservative. This makes it easier for offenses to catch ball, and indirectly creates and unfair
advantage. Defensive players are more timid about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the Georgia Bulldogs were playing the Vanderbilt Commodores and there was a
questionable play. The officials ended up ruling the play targeting and a star linebacker for
Georgia was ejected from the game. He was a very important piece to the defense, and this penalty
caused to place a new player in the game that was not use to playing a lot. The change effect the
game immediately, because on that same drive Vanderbilt scored to take the lead and ended up
winning the game. This is has a major impact to the players in the NFL as well. Multiple
instances have occurred where the targeting rule has been enforced and the players end up getting
fined thousands of dollars playing the game that they are getting paid to play. It is their job to play
football and it makes it hard for the players to do their job efficiently when rules like this interfere

Gender Stereotypes as a Reflection of Women
Introduction
The media holds up a mirror to our society. As condemned as the media may be, it does reflect
much truth and reality. This is especially so for comics and advertising media because they are
very much inspired by our daily lives and struggles (Klein, 1993).
Commercials and comics should never be solely regarded as the promotion of tangible objects as
they carry subtle messages and reinforces certain ideas subconsciously. Gender roles are underlying
and recurring themes in these commercials and it is crucial to understand the development of the
images media portray because they have a strong correlation with the society. As these forms of
media dominate the industry, we have to be wary of how it validates and ascertains ... Show more

Emotional needs Advertisements often depict women reclining or lying on objects, which convey
dependence and appeasement (Cortese, 2008). Similarly, love and romance comics reinforced the
desirability of women making choices and sacrifices for love. (Klein, 1993, p. 62) Duncombe and
Marsden reported that in their own study, women told the interviewer they wanted their partner to
signal attachment, by unprompted intimate or romantic gestures and actions, because this would
make them feel emotionally special (Delamont, 2001). In addition, Williams found that emotional
sustenance in marriage is especially important for women (Thompson amp; Walker, 1989). A
woman s emotional need for companionship and love can then be seen to be largely fulfilled by a
man, as conveyed in a woman s image of insufficiency (Cortese, 2008). A regular issue with
marriage is when a woman feels that she has not achieved the level of emotional intimacy with her
husband, which she needs, deserves or wants and thus, her unhappiness results in the contemplation
of a divorce (Delamont, 2001). Women s desire for the affection of men consistently prompts them
to attract men s attention. However, men are less expressive with words and often show their
emotional intimacy through sexual activity (Delamont, 2001; Thompson amp; Walker, 1989). This
is repeatedly reflected in the advertising media and comics and demonstrated by how women
construct themselves to be objects for the male gaze

Organisational culture describes the values, beliefs and behaviours which provide norms for the
environment of an organisation (Anon., 2012). The culture of an organisation sets out to provide
structure for employees within a business and often culture shows to be a strong factor in certain
organisations. Edgar Schein, a culture theorist explains that the definition of organizational culture
must be general otherwise factors may be eliminated which may contribute to culture within a
business. (Anon., 2007). Culture impacts on the working procedures in which a business performs
and effects the way in which the organisation is run on a daily basis.

Employees follow specific job descriptions and their aim is to complete individual tasks set, role
culture also displays bureaucracy within a company (Sherwin, 2009). John Lewis has implemented
a role culture within their organisation allowing staff to have individual roles to complete
advantageously giving them a sense of job identity within the culture of the business.(Potter, 2010)
explains that John Lewis encourage respect, fairness, dialogue and collaboration between all staff
(shareholders or partners) to work from a leadership base of high credibility and trust. Therefore
this shows they value importance on their employees and ensure they have a positive reputation of
culture. By issuing yearly bonuses to employees, they show importance of their staff to the
company and communication of this is shown in the public eye.
Task culture is an explanation of businesses which value high importance of the tasks in hand and
make every effort of the company to complete tasks set. There is less control and influence from
sub ordinates as employees work in team based groups to ensure completion of work. An example
of this culture would be seen in more research based businesses where more team working is
required with different skills to implement within the business surroundings.
A person culture reflects a culture in which the business surrounds the importance of employees
and key job roles are led by staff decision making where in which there is no hierarchy. The

The Balance Of Power
11. What is balance of power ? The balance of power was a concept or idea in the eighteenth
century. By the eighteenth century, the European method of self governing independent states
was established greatly in the idea of self interest. Since international connections were based on
deliberation of power, the eighteenth century concept of a balance of power was grounded on
how to counterbalance the power of one state by another one to stop anyone s power from
controlling over the others. However, this balance of power did not indicate a wish for peace.
Huge armies were created to protect a state s security were sometimes even used for offensive
motives as well. 12. Who were Austria s alliance and enemies during the War of Austrian

neither the use of metals nor the art of cultivation. They never constructed homes, but lived in

Mesolithic Man / Middle Stone Age The Mesolithic man was a hunter, who lived on the wild fruits

Towards A Phenomenology Of Dwelling Summary
In Towards a Phenomenology of Dwelling, Lisa Guenther puts forth thought on dwelling, and
doing so responsibly. She brings up the idea of a person s daimon, which I like to think of as a
person s conscious. It tells you the possible things that you can do, both good and bad, but
ultimately, only you can decide what you will do. The visual of an angel and the devil sitting upon
either shoulder comes to my mind. Others are more aware of your daimon than you are, and this is
because there are parts of yourself that you do not see. Whether this be physical, like your habits,
tendencies, and body language or not visible like your desires, most of the time, others are more
aware of this than you are. Desires influence every decision that you make,

Buying vs Leasing
Executive Summary
What would be the best option for a company to lease or purchase equipment? Each business
owner s situation is different. The decision to buy or lease business equipment is unique. It must
be made on a case by case basis. Leasing equipment preserves capital giving the business more
flexibility. While leasing can be good in the short run it can cost you more in the long run. We
will look at the advantages and disadvantages of leasing. My research will look at the different
options a company faces if they lease or buy and why it has become more attractive to lease.
First let s start by describing the basic concept of a lease. Some leases are merely rentals, whereas
others are effectively purchases. FASB classifieds... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like house, then, buying is cheaper than renting in the long term.
While leasing has both advantages and disadvantages. Let s take a look at the disadvantages.
The lack of ownership would be a main disadvantage. You are obligated to make payments and
when a lessee encounters financial distress, the lessor typically becomes its largest creditor. If a
lessor decides to reduce exposure and recall its leased aircraft, an airline can no longer operate.
Lessors require payments for all aspects of airplane utilization and rent, meaning maintenance
reserves and so on. The cash flow becomes much tighter while if they own their own jets they have
much more flexibility. According to Boeings Zolotusky, it comes down to two basic considerations,
the quality of the aircraft involved and the customer involved.
Businesses can change operations and it may be expensive and difficult to terminate a lease before
the end of the term. If the business owns the property it might be easier to sell and make money
rather than losing all of its assets and getting nothing in return. In some cases of leasing when it s
time to renew the owners might demand higher rental payments putting the lessee at a disadvantage.
Lessors offer a very sensible business proposition. For airlines that want to be primarily airlines, it
s a very attractive and efficient service. If the operators want to focus on the service of getting
people on planes,

What Does Fragment 123 Mean
Heidegger also believed that we have been interpreting certain pre Socratics wrong. One such pre
Socratic is Heraclitus. More specifically, Heidegger believed that Fragment 123 of Heraclitus in
which he mentions Physis has also been translated falsely, giving the words false definitions as
well as false philosophical theories behind it. Traditionally, Fragment 123 is translated into that
nature likes to hide . Instead of the traditional interpretation of how nature likes to hide, Heidegger
believed that when Heraclitus mentioned Physis, he was referring to Being. More specifically, he
was referring to Being in the Heideggarian context, which is referring to the appearing of that
which appears and the occurring of what is. In other words, he was referring to things which are
seeming and happening and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heidegger believed that being is unchanging, but change is becoming. In other words, being is
something that cannot change, but at the same time, change is something that is heading towards a
fulfillment, or a state of becoming in which no longers and not yets are changing due to their
achievement. Likewise, Dasein is also becoming, but it is not actualizing. Dasein is trying to head
towards its self fulfillment in which Daseins spend their entire lives trying to do, but are never fully
able to reach the goal of self actualization. As a result, beings are something that are constantly
being, while at the same time, constantly becoming, heading towards their self actualization.
Heidegger additionally pointed out that what is no longer has to become, because it is coming into
appearance. To put it in a different perspective, what is becoming is something that is something
that cannot exist anymore, because it is heading towards its true self, and its ultimate demise. It is
overall the appearance and the manifestation of something, it is something that is

  • 2. Claiming Victory of the Cold War Essay Claiming Victory of the Cold War What has been termed as the long peace by some has proven to be the most intense time period in world history. A historical rarity, two superpowers fought rigorously across the globe for support, each carving out their own sphere of influence. The bi polar of international affairs resulted in an arms buildup between the United States and the Soviet Union; including weapons that exceeded the atomic bomb, then the most effective and destructive weapon in price and devastation. Yet, to everyone s surprise, the Cold Warabruptly ended in 1990 with the collapse of the Soviet Union under its own economic weakness, its political conflict, and military farce. A decade later, we ask: Who can claim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to give such a question its proper justice, we must first explore the world near the end and directly following the second world war, the landscape, which in fact, birthed the Cold War. The second World War against Nazi aggression was fought by the Allies on two fronts; The British and Americans pushing from the West, the Soviets, alone, fighting German troops on the East. By 1945, without aid from the US or the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union began to gradually push the Nazi forces back West, as he other Allies pushed from the beaches of Normandy. Soviet troops would eventually occupy much of Eastern Europe, to the dismay of Roosevelt and Churchill. At Yalta, Stalin assured free elections in the region following the unconditional surrender of Germany. At Yalta, also, is where the Soviets, along with the English pledged support towards the United States in the Pacific Ocean. It was at this point in the war that the United States and the Soviet Union began competition, and possibly even earlier since the implementation of Lend Lease. Firstly, the United States, without informing Joseph Stalin, sent two atomic bombs on Japan, one on Hiroshima and the other on Nagasaki. Stalin s ignorance, perhaps, was a ploy of the United States government, which feared the presence of Soviet troops in the region, believing that the Soviet Union would want territorial concessions in Asia as they did in Europe. The Soviets responded at war s end when, while he rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Purpose Of Government In The United States What is the purpose of government? Many of us wondered about this from the beginning of the year and more importantly, as we walked into the government room. Now, as we round out the year, we have learned all about government and what it s purpose truly is. We look back and view many of those stating what they think the governmentis. That is when we have to figure out what they are saying. Thomas Jefferson was one of the many important presidents in our country. Jefferson states that The purpose of government is to enable the people of a nation to live in safety and happiness. Government exists for the interests of the governed, not for the governors. As one of his most famous quotes, we can see why it is so important. First of off, it is portrayed through the quote that the government is supposed to be there for the people. It is not just there to strengthen the country, and leave the people alone, fending for themselves. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Programs such as Medicaid and Medicare, which help the elderly and poor improve their living conditions, and even improve their physical wellbeing. It is also important in protecting many from all of the dangers that come within and outside of our country. We have a military that does a great job, but if we didn t have someone there to protect us, then who would? The answer would be no one. We would have a government which is a mess, and would leave people fending for themselves. That would only leave more turmoil for the generations after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jobs came back into the company as was so innovative with his products, creating easy to use, fast, reliable products at a rapid pace. Innovation comes from saying no to 1,000 things, said Jobs. When Jobs returned to Apple he dramatically reduced the number of products the company made so each product had an A team. Our nation s leaders and individual citizens are coming to an understanding that we can not assume any longer that problems such as pollution, climate changes and the dwindling amount of natural resources can be put off for a future generation to deal with (Green Technology, 2010). By virtue of being human, all individuals are in possessions of certain natural rights, such as the right to a free trial and freedom of speech, freedom of religion. But it became important during 20th century. These liberties include freedom of thought, belief, expression, and assembly; protection against unreasonable searches and captures; and provisions for a court hearing prior to government taking of a person s life, liberty, or property. Civil liberty is not absolute, it is subject to limitations in order to secure or promote the greater interests of the community. The State may protect civil liberty through its laws against interference by other individuals, or through its constitutional system against interference by any single part of the Government. But the State always possesses the power, through its legal power, to limit and shorten or even destroy civil liberty. During certain times the government may place limits on civil liberties. This is allowed during war time or during other national crisis. People want to limit the liberties because of the safety problem. Citizens have the right to challenge government actions by initiating legal action. In such a case, the U. S. Supreme Court uses its power of judicial review, which included the power to void any legislative or executive action that violates constitutional rights. • 9. No Exit By Jean Paul Sartre The play No Exit, by Jean Paul Sartre is about three people that die and go to hell. Joseph Garcin, a journalist executed by a firing squad for trying to desert during a war; Inez Serrano, a post office clerk murdered by her lover which left a gas stove on while she slept; and Estelle Rigault, a woman who married an older rich man and died due to pneumonia. They all expected physical torture in hell. However, all they found was a plain room with some furniture that always had the light on, no windows, no beds, nothing that would reflect or work as a mirror. The three of them were trapped inside the room. After discussing among themselves, they confessed their crimes and deduced that the torture was psychological. They also realized that they had been placed together so that each of them was to become the torturer of the other two. Each character began to ask things from the others to fulfill a need they all had, which only led them to more despair. Due to this, Garcin concluded that hell is other people (pag26). A. Petrusso argues in his article No Exit that the three main characters of the play have in common a display of cowardice. Certainly, all of them seem to be cowards at some moment and one character exhibits it more than the others. He also argues that certain actions and behaviors are merely the cowardice of the character when in fact, it rather seems more like fear. Sales have been slowly but steadily rising meaning that businesses are positively making profits and growing from past years production and profitability, this is always important because one at all times wants to see that the company is headed in the right direction as far as growth and profitability is concerned. It is great to see that at the moment the U.S economy is rising for the better of the businesses and of the people. (Amadeo, 2016) We need more of this positive streak to keep going on so that more jobs will be created because of the companies doing good they ll want to create more stores which means more jobs. Technological Factors. The technological factors that I have noticed when working at Ross is that factors that affect Ross are their slowness to adapt to the new retail systems such as using the chip reader for their customers cards in order to protect their information, taking a long time to update the register computers in all their stores which has a negative impact when checking out because if the computer crashes and has to restart then the restart process is a lot slower. Not only can the failure to use the chip system for the card result in a negative effect, but it can even have Ross be responsible for fraudulent charges on their customers card. This is due to the fact that banks have given most consumers a card with a chip therefore stores that have not updated to the chip ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For Janie, in Their Eyes Were Watching God, she grasps her life by the ropes and lets it take her on the adventure of a lifetime, never regretting the love she felt and the hardships she endured to find that true and untarnished love. Janie marries thrice, each time drawing nearer to the distant and seemingly unreachable horizon while gaining bits and pieces of self actualization. When Janie sees it necessary to shoot her husband to relieve him of his agony, she readily pulls the trigger, knowing her husband s best interests. In the concluding paragraphs Janie pulled in her horizons like a great fish net...and draped it over her shoulders, (Hurston 193) able to rest peacefully knowing she lived her life to its fullest capacity. This metaphor paints the reader a picture of brightly colored horizons stretching just beyond reach, and how Janie, through perseverance and her strong spirit could pull in her horizons, just as every person in society strives to do. FIG LANGUAGE Hurston introduces and concludes her book by utilizing eloquent, metaphorical figurative language, as she discusses the differences between men s and women s dreams. She describes the dreams of both men and women, stating that For some [men] they come in with the tide...for others they sail forever on the horizon . In this epic, the Gods come off as very powerful and interfere with the lives of humans as they chose. In the text, there are many examples of the Gods trying to control human lives in specific ways. The Gods see the courage and strength in Gilgamesh so Anu, the Sky God, summons Aruru to create a perfect partner for Gilgamesh. The earliest example we see of Gods running interference is the Goddess of Creation, Aruru, creates Enkidu. Enkidu s purpose is to be a perfect counterpart of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu fight to see who is stronger, but they are evenly matched. This brings the idea of separate but equal between the two individuals. Instead of the two being enemies, they come about as being ally s in many battles. Throughout this epic you see how the Gods are symbolic, how they affect daily events, and how fate is on their side. The Gods are symbolic because they are fully divine. Although Gilgamesh is two thirds divine, he is still mortal and will die. He wants to be like a God and let his name ... All of this could have been avoided if Gilgamesh would have accepted Ishtar s offer. Since Gilgamesh was close to Enkidu during the time of his death, Gilgamesh now fears death. The audience follows Hamlet on his journey to avenge his father s death, which was brought about by his late father s brother, Claudius, the current reigning king. The story clearly centres around the ever hesitant prince and his struggle to enact his revenge. It is Hamlet s procrastination and inability to act that drives the story to its disastrously orchestrated end. Despite all his faults, the audience feels a sense of affection for the young prince and connect with him on a level that is unavailable with the other characters. It is in this connection that the interest of the audience is captured, such that one can almost experience his joy and his grief, or his jealousy and love, all things that are encountered by modern day humans. All the choices that Hamlet makes, allows the audience to understand his character a little better. I could feel the wind as it blew my new hair do, and caressed my cheekbones. The air smelled of fresh water and the sand was soft between my toes. The solution that is offered by implementing a pattern results in a system design structure, which balances the concerns of the design problem in a manner most appropriate for the given context. In Understanding and Using Patterns in Software Development , Dirk Riehle and Heinz Zullighaven offer a rather nice definition of what a design pattern is: A pattern is the abstraction from a concrete form which keeps recurring in specific non arbitrary contexts. The patterns exhibited are described in very concise and restricted examples that lack a comprehensive context in order for the reader to gain a full understanding of the use of the pattern in question. The patterns throughout the book are also presented in isolation to each other which hinders the illustration of pattern interaction and thus the full benefit to those wishing to learn how to implement design patterns. Nine years ago, I finally set foot in the fabled city when my family immigrated to the United States. The gigantic airport, JFK International, spanned miles and its terminals stood proudly over the jumbo jets below. That night, nausea from the plane s descension and the entropic motions of my aunt s Jeep dissuaded me from seeing the outside world. I rested my head on my mom s lap while imagining what the city was like. Just a few days ago, I lived in ShenZhen. On the opposite side of the Hong Kong, ShenZhen shared much of its prosperity. Thus, I believed that New York City is no different from where I lived. However, I wanted to see the subway system that many other cities modeled after. I was also interested in learning the American culture, such as religions and holidays. The concept of religion was alien to me, partly because most people in China were atheists. I woke up early in the morning, eager to see the snow outside and all the foreign novelties. In the kitchen, my aunt and cousin were making toast and took out glass bottles of Snapple. After breakfast, I conversed with him in broken English. We had many common interests, namely video games and biking. Despite this, America also provided homosexuals with the power to fight their oppressors, thus the Gay Liberation Movement. Based on Brody et al. (2006) study, results indicated that race related stress from allostatic load was not significant for youth with high emotional support. Accessing emotional supportive networks of family and peers can help readjust behavior and counterbalance cognitive trajectories that reduce anxiety and stress. Theme Of Death In Edgar Allan Poe Death Death in Edgar Allan Poe s short stories Death is one of the well known themes of Edgar Allan Poe s art, in which the author captures the physical signs, decomposition, the sensation of feeling buried alive, the reanimation of the death or the mourning. Most of the works of Edgar Allan Poe have a dark atmosphere, full of mystery. These works illustrate the dramatic events, explores the dark side of human relationships and offer visions of the sublime. The works explore the tragedy that brings one to the edge of madness where nothing seems real, the place where the soul disintegrates, leaving only the essence of a life unfulfilled bitter. • 39. Compare And Contrast My Last Duchess And Porphyria s Lover Robert Browning (7 May 1812 12 December 1889) was an English poet and scriptwriter whose mastery of the dramatic monologue made him one of the most prominent Victorian poets. Within his collection were two of his most renowned works, My Last Duchess and Porphyria s Lover . In My Last Duchess the speaker is an Italian Duke who is speaking to the ambassador about his daughter, who he intends to marry. The Duke then begins to flaunt his gallery of art with the intent to impress. He then comes across the painting of his last duchess in which openly speaks about having her murdered for lack of respect for him. Porphyria s Lover is a dramatic monologue that describes the events that eventually lead to the death of Porphyria. The speaker lives in a cottage in the countryside. His lover, a gorgeous young woman named Porphyria, comes in out of a storm and attempts to bring cheer to the cottage. She caresses the speaker, offering him her bare shoulder. Realizing that she will eventually give in to society s pressures, and wanting to conserve the moment, he wraps her hair around her neck and strangles her. He then adjusts her corpse, opening the eyes and propping the body up against his side. He sits with her body this way the entire night, the speaker declaring that God has not yet punished him. Although these two poems share many similarities, the differences can be discovered through the analysis of the language, themes, and the feelings the reader experiences while reading these poems. As a result of these poems being published in a collection, the structure of the two poems shares many attributes. Although the rhyme scheme is different to add a unique feel to the poem, they both consist of 1 long stanza. Doing this, Browning added a sense of suspense to each poem by having the reader continuously read without any real transitions. Rhyming couplets show control and the rhyme scheme in My Last Duchess, is rhyming couplets the whole way through, which shows that the Duke evidently had controlled the whole poem. In Porphyria s Lover, there are only rhyming couplets in the end, as he kills her, this is the only time in the whole poem where he has control. Both poems contain a multitude of caesuras within ... Similarly, love and romance comics reinforced the desirability of women making choices and sacrifices for love. (Klein, 1993, p. 62) Duncombe and Marsden reported that in their own study, women told the interviewer they wanted their partner to signal attachment, by unprompted intimate or romantic gestures and actions, because this would make them feel emotionally special (Delamont, 2001). In addition, Williams found that emotional sustenance in marriage is especially important for women (Thompson amp; Walker, 1989). A woman s emotional need for companionship and love can then be seen to be largely fulfilled by a man, as conveyed in a woman s image of insufficiency (Cortese, 2008). A regular issue with marriage is when a woman feels that she has not achieved the level of emotional intimacy with her husband, which she needs, deserves or wants and thus, her unhappiness results in the contemplation of a divorce (Delamont, 2001). Women s desire for the affection of men consistently prompts them to attract men s attention. However, men are less expressive with words and often show their emotional intimacy through sexual activity (Delamont, 2001; Thompson amp; Walker, 1989). The lack of ownership would be a main disadvantage. You are obligated to make payments and when a lessee encounters financial distress, the lessor typically becomes its largest creditor. If a lessor decides to reduce exposure and recall its leased aircraft, an airline can no longer operate. Lessors require payments for all aspects of airplane utilization and rent, meaning maintenance reserves and so on. The cash flow becomes much tighter while if they own their own jets they have much more flexibility.
