Procedure Of Completing The Tender
Once the contracting company has been selected through a single or two stage tender. The
procedure of completing the tender and actually getting the project is the next step. Tender
process An invitation to tender is a formal invitation to make an offer for the project There are
several parts to form a tender and to put in a bid to the client. In this section each part of the
tender process would be explained in detail. When it comes to tendering for a bid, it is important
to understand that the different bidders that have been invited to bid are submitting a contract,
explaining why they would be perfect for the project. The first information for a design and build
tender would be defining the contract, giving details of timescales for commencement and
completion. By defining the contract, the company the tender is sent to, will instantly know
what the contract is about and have a brief idea of how they are putting in a bid for it. When it
comes to construction, timescale is very important. If a project is delayed or starts late, the client
is losing out on money and on a big project or on any project, you want to save as much money as
possible but still have the best result. So by giving details for the commencement and completion
of the project gives the client an idea when it would be done by and they can decide if that is in the
same timescale they d want the project done by. After defining the contract, the contract conditions
follow. The contract conditions

The Internship Reflection
Storyline summary
The Internship is a film in which two middle aged salesmen, Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and
Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) find that their careers have become redundant due to the increasing
growth and development of modern technology, in which they are not well versed.
Billy McMahon and Nick Campbell now face unemployment and have no desirable directions to
venture towards. It is in the time of this crisis that Billy McMahon shows his resilience to surrender
as he spots the opportunity of a Google internship.
Their unorthodox interview responses and persuasive salesmen nature causes the Google
management to be intrigued enough to accept them into the intern program in spite of their clear
lack of the necessary expertise.

The first example of conflict in the film is in the scene where Nick and Billy find out that their
business is closing down. The source of this conflict is due to a lack of communication from their
former employer, who failed to inform them of the business s foreclosure. Furthermore, the
emotional reactions from Billy, Nick and their employer allowed for the conflict to fester. The
former employer neglected to manage this dysfunctional conflict and thus neither of the conflicted
parties benefitted. Very definitely, the dysfunctional nature of the conflict and an absence of the
necessary conflict management allowed for both parties to leave

Prometheus And The Instinctive Man
Prometheus, a tale over 2000 years old, is still as relevant in the modern era as it was all those years
ago in Athens. Prometheus is seen throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, especially in pop
culture, frequently as a martyr and hero, however there is a much more profound parallel that can
be made about his timeless character. He represents the consequences of when one seeks
knowledge, independency, and especially enlightenment. From his deviance to his torture, we see
how prometheusand the modern man are alike. Prometheus gave humans fire, by doing so that
meant that he no longer needed nor respected the gods and that humans would soon follow that
example. Prometheus offered an escape from the patriarchal Zeus, who can be compared to the
Judeo Christian God, and for doing so he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is chained to a rock in the Caucasus, where his liver is eaten daily by an eagle, all the while
watching his own torment. Prometheus is what happens to man when he becomes the
instinctive man, as we see quoted from Bertrand Russell s The Problems of Philosophy. The life
of the instinctive man is shut up within the circle of his private interests...we remain like a
garrison in a beleaguered fortress, knowing that the enemy prevents escape and that ultimate
surrender is inevitable. In such a life there is no peace, but a constant strife between the
insistence of desire and the powerlessness of will. In one way or another, if our life is to be great
and free, we must escape this prison and this strife.(35 36) In his act of defiance, Prometheus
becomes the instinctive man. Just like in modern society we have people who are confined to their
own world and are deterred from seeking

Homecoming-Personal Narrative
2017 for me was a pretty good year. There were some bumpy parts, but for the most part was a
good year. Like the time I snuck into prom and managed to get into the prom pictures, which I
am quite proud of. I think the 2017 Homecoming was one was the best Homecomings we ve ever
had. But one of my dogs died which was very sad time. 2017 was the year I got my license. Most
of my friends had already gotten their license, so it was quite an exciting time for me. My
parents had already gotten me a car, so I ll I had to do was take the test and pass. Which I did
with flying colors. So, the story of me going to prom wasn t necessarily the most exciting one. One

Sitting Bull Thesis

Hist 1302
Sitting Bull
Sitting Bull, the legendary chief of American Indian, who was described as a great warrior with
many great fighting virtues of bravery, strength and insight. People cannot talk about Sitting Bull
without mentioning the historic war known as the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
Around 1831, a child was born in Hunkpapa Lakota, a tribe of Sioux residing in Grand River
known as present day Dakota for a very long time. That child was named Jumping Badger by his
family; however, because of quiet and , everyone called him Slow during the boyhood. At the age
of 10, that young boy killed his first buffalo and gave meat away to elders who could not hunt
anymore. The next four years, he joined his first war party and struck a Crow warrior with a
tomahawk. Celebrating for the child s bravery and equanimity, the father gave him a name as
Tatanka Iyotanka, which meant Sitting Bull. Sitting Bull became the leader of the Strong Heart
Society by the age of 25, and soon had a successful war record in fighting against Crows,
Blackfeets, Assiniboins, Fladheads and many other enemies. Being extremely famous of courage
and fighting skills, his followers always entered the fight with this yelling: Sitting Bull! I am he.
The reputation of Sitting Bull widely spread with the conflicts between Sioux and US military in
Pacific Northern railroad. Meanwhile, he became a holy man and medicine man as well. It was in
1868 when Sitting Bull reached the peak of his fame

Lighting and Themes in 127 Hours
There are plenty of films based on a true story and various ways to use lighting as a part of Mise
en ScГ©ne to make all of those films seem more realistic or in sometimes unrealistic whichever
is the director s and cinematographer s take on the story. Danny Boyle s take on Aron Ralston s
true story of cutting his arm off to live has been to make it as realistic as it possibly can be. The
film was shot on and off set, mostly in constructed set of the canyon where Aron Ralston, portrayed
by James Franco, was trapped with his arm pinned between a large boulder and the canyon wall.
The scene of which lighting and themes this essay will discuss about starts from the point where
James Franco s character has just freed himself and starts running... Show more content on

Josef von Sternberg has said that the proper use of light can embellish and dramatize every object
(Josef von Sternberg as quoted in Bordwell 2010, p. 131). As much as the lighting in this scene is
used to state Franco s character s state of mind it is also used to dramatize the scene and character
s struggle. This applies throughout the whole film and not just in this particular scene. Lighting
intensifies Franco s character s facial expressions as well as during his run through the canyon the
lighting is darkened and more shadowy most of the time to create realistic condition but it also adds
the feeling of length to the run.
In the part of the scene where the character is running through the canyon the lighting changes
constantly between darker and lighter. It is darker when he struggles and lighter on the easier parts
of the distance between his trap and freedom.
In the shots that are taken in the canyon the light is colder than in the ones that are taken outside.
The fill light is used to soften the contrast of shadows on characters face while he is in the
canyon (Pramaggiore and Wallis 2011, p. 111). For the first half of the scene, placed in the
canyon, light is constantly coming from above as sunlight between the cracks of the earth to the
canyon. Franco s character also keeps looking up to the sunlight after he has been freed from his
trap. The character has done that many times before in the film as desperately hoping to be free

Vinny Ohh Research Paper
Is becoming a genderless alien possible? Vinny Ohh is a 24 year old male who has undergone
110 cosmetic procedures, he now wants to undergo surgery that would make him genderless. He
claims he wants to become a genderless alien . Vinny Ohh should not be permitted to make
surgical changes to become a genderless alien because the surgery has never been performed
before and doctors don t know how it would affect his body in now and in the long run.
Although, it would be interesting to see if it is a possible procedure, it is highly dangerous. It is
a surgery that plastic surgeons have have never done nor heard of. This procedure has not been
done yet, it s a totally new territory (Dr. Simoni). This is important because it shows that plastic
surgeons are unsure about doing the procedure. Most importantly, plastic surgeons don t know if
the procedure is possible. He s now been told by plastic surgeons that he may never be able to
have the operation which would be a world first (Pemberton). All in all, it may not even be
possible for Ohh to get the surgery.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This would be a brand new procedure and if something happens or there are complications, we

to go wrong during or after the surgery the doctors wouldn t know how to deal with it and he could
be left with serious issues. Therefore, Vinny Ohh should rethink the

The desire to fit in is something that everyone at one point or another has felt. People buy
expensive perfumes, makeups and clothes, trying to fit into the norm of society. The Eye of the
Beholder an episode of the TV show twilight zone explores the notions of beauty and the peer
pressure that forces people to change their looks.
The episode begins showing a woman s face, completely covered in bandages, she is awaiting the
result of a procedure designed to make her beautiful. Only in this world, the operation is
mandated by the law, to help people like herself deemed ugly become beautiful and blend in. At
the end of the episode when the bandages come off, the doctors gasp in horror, to find the

provide for the extermination of undesirables. But the doctor also tries to stress the importance
of her humanity by suggesting that she move to a special area designed for people of her kind.
This angers Janet since the special area is basically a Ghetto designed for freaks! This invokes
horror that reminds viewers of the Nazi concentration camps that ended only fifteen years prior to
the episode airing. The society shown in the episode mirrors some of the same traits as Nazi
Germany. The thinking that people who do not fit the norm need to be shipped away to ghettos or

Marcion Against Gnosticism
Marcion also mimicked the church by having his own bishops and a similar system to the church.
Because of these things, the church had to recover quickly by meeting the challenge that was
created. Although the Marcion church did challenge the Christian church, its beliefs were very
similar to the Gnostic beliefs in that they believed that the Old Testament was not scripture and
should not be treated as such.
Up until the mid to late 1900 s the knowledge about Marcion and the Gnostics was only known
through the heresiologists. (Gonzales 1984, 70) Heresiologists Christian writers that argued against
Gnosticism and its tenets. In 1945 a large collection of Gnostic writings were discovered in Egypt;

Uncritical Thinker
There are three types of thinkers, Uncritical Persons, skilled manipulators and the fair minded
critical persons. The uncritical persons are the ones that the media thrives on. They are the ones
that are easily influenced in believing what they hear on the news to be true without doing their
own research on what they heard. It is simply true because they read it in the newspaper or saw
it on the news. These individuals want to be presented with a simple minded, black and white
world (page 299). A person that I can relate to as an uncritical thinker would be boyfriend s
mother. She is a difficult person to reason with. She believes in what she hears to be true without
actually knowing the facts. She does not search for the truth or care too.... Show more content on

These people are focused shrewdly on pursuing their own interest without respect to how that
pursuit affects others (page 299). Although skilled manipulators share many characteristics of an
uncritical thinker, they have qualities that separate them from the uncritical persons (page 300).
They are good at using their power of manipulation to get what they want from people. Skilled
manipulators use their skill to take advantage of others and use it to their benefit. My boss is an
example of a skilled manipulator. He is constantly controlling and influencing others for his own
interests. He knows how to get what he wants no matter the consequences it plays on others. For
example, he will tell employee s things they want to hear in order to get them to work longer
hours, yet he never follows through with those promises. He actually convinced a guy one night
that missing his daughter s softball tournament would benefit him in the long run within the
company and so he missed it all because he believed it would get him a promotion. It in fact did

Essay on Authority and American Usage, by David Foster...
David Foster Wallace, author of the essay Authority and American Usage*, praises and advocates
for good writers who have a strong rhetorical ability, which he defines as the persuasive use of
language to influence the thoughts and actions of an audience (Wallace 628). To have a strong
rhetorical ability, an author needs to be aware of whom their audience is, in order to present their
information in a way that will be influential on their audience. Wallace recognizes that an author
who applies a strong rhetorical ability will be able to connect with the audience so that they respond
not just to [their] utterance but also to [them] (Wallace 641). An author needs to take into
consideration not just content, syntax and grammatical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There, glaring up at me in bold, red ink against the crisp white paper was a C . Comparing my

Our teacher, Mrs. Hetrick, provided the answer to our question: These essays could have easily
been generated by a computer program. They tell me nothing about yourselves; why in the world
you are telling me all of this? You need to make me care about the message you are conveying,
otherwise, your writing is useless. She then told us that while we were all communicating in the
proper format, we had failed to take into consideration whom our audience was. In order to truly
persuade and influence our audience, we had to do more than place complicated ideas into a
grammatically immaculate sentences; we need to show the audience why they should care about
our writing; otherwise, they will just lose interest. I realize now that this experience provided a
stable foundation for what I consider to be an example of passionate rhetorical ability, which helps
me reflect on what authors Wallace deems as good through their rhetorical strategies.
Wallace distinguishes the Democratic Spirit in the writing of Bryan A. Garner, author of A
Dictionary of Modern American Usage (ADMAU). Wallace identifies a Democratic Sprit, as one
that combines rigor and humility, i.e, passionate conviction plus a sedulous respect for the

Child Custody Interests
Child custody arrangements have evolved over the years from a time when children were once
seen as property of the father. This began to change as society became more focused on the
development of children, understanding the formative years of childhood evolved into adulthood.
Mothers have historically been granted custody in the majority of custody cases as determined in
nineteenth century by the tender year s doctrine. Once the tender years doctrine had been
determined to be in violation of the fourteenth amendment the primary caretaker rule was
developed based on who was the primary caretaker prior to the divorce. With the increase in divorce
rates and the legislation of Uniform Marriageand Divorce Act of 1976 set the standard for the Best
Interests of the Child. The best interest of the child concept moved away from parental rights,
focusing on several factors such as relationships between parent and child, school and home

It was during this time that men began looking for work outside of the local area of farms, leaving
women behind to manage the house. This brought about a change due to the roles men took as

Child concept, it has been beneficial in respecting parents rights who may have be living in
nontraditional parenting arrangements, are homosexual or have severe physical disabilities.
Societal changes influenced legal custodial arrangements to increase greater contact between

The Latest And Greatest Unique Technologies Essay
Apple has finally announced the new Apple Watch at the Apple Live Event back on September
9th this year and it s due to be released in early 2015. There has been much speculation as to the
design, functionality and even the name. It was previously referred to as the iWatch and even iOS

People today set many new trends when it comes to technology. The emergence of smartphones is
also the product of continuing innovations throughout the years. Nowadays, all major smartphone
manufacturers invest heavily into extensive research and development projects. The goal is to
create the latest and greatest unique technologies. Apples latest attempt at this alongside the iPhone
6 and iPhone 6 Plus has taken the form of a wearable wristwatch.
The concept of a smart watch is nothing new. An early example of the smart watch was a product
called the Pebble Watch which was released back in 2013. The Pebble Watch allowed users to
receive notifications, view emails, check the weather and display a wide variety of custom
information. Just like the Apple Watch, the Pebble Watch needed to be connected to your
smartphone to benefit from most features. So now lets take a look at the Apple Watch in more
detail and evaluate if it really will be a game changer or simply just another gimmick.

The Characters Of Inanna
Ancient Sumerians built intelligent designs for the beginning civilizations in history, in the
region of Mesopotamia. What is now present day Iraq, was then socially formed by people who
learned a diversity of skills in it s development. Food is one of the most importantly defined means
for survival. In the book Inanna written by Diane Wolkstein and Samuel Kramer, there are stories
of a fertility goddess who patroned one of Sumers great city states named Uruk. This 5,000 year
old literature of ancient Sumer has given a literal and figurative outlook into its mythology. What
is understood from the period is that Inanna acquired the me s, or cosmic laws, from Enki to bring
to Uruk. Inanna s role in the myths is applying her powers to the life in Uruk, where her customs
are to protect her people.
Inanna, as a women, is known distinctively for her connection to fertility in an agrarian society.
In the first stories of Inanna s origins, she was predominantly proud of her sexual becoming,
Rejoicing at her wondrous vulva, the young woman Inanna applauded herself (Wolkstein 12).
Inanna yearned to bore good and prosperous aspects of life from the new opportunities she will
encounter as a mature women. This may mean she relates her sexual identity to the happiness of
Uruk. The people of Uruk are an agrarian society, so they knew how to bake bread, and make fine
linens from flax seed. If Inanna did not provide crops, despite the rapid progress they have made in

Space Shuttle Challenger
1. Why did NASA decide to launch Challenger?
The shuttle program was under political attack. Congress was dissatisfied with the program, and
the president poorly defended it, this led to sever budget cuts. In order to keep the program alive
NASA had to prove that it could pay for itself. To attract customers and retain Congressional
support, NASA had to prove that it could launch a large number of flights on time. This stressed
the already threatened Launch schedule. No one at NASA wanted to be responsible for delays. So

taken time.

November 30, 2013 Floyd B. McKissick Sr. was a veteran of World War II and a pioneer in the
integration of higher education in North Carolina. In the summer of 1951, he was admitted to the

However, due to his race, the City Council denied him. This had not been the only problem of

the city which we were regularly fighting every day, as it related to blacks in a southern city where
segregation was prevalent. 9 McKissick continued to participate in protests such as the the Journey
of Reconciliation, an early freedom ride challenging segregation in interstate transportation, and
later in the desegregation of UNC Law School.10
In 1939, McKissick sought a degree at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.11 After a year in

Ms.Meyer English III 18 April 2013 Compare and Contrast: Daisy and Myrtle The Great Gatsby
is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This novel features Jay Gatsby, George Wilson, Nick
Carraway, Jordan Baker and Tom Buchanan along with many others to show the hopes, the
struggles and the romance the characters went through each and every day. Due to the mixing of
the two social classes: the rich and the poor, we learn about the causes and effects of what they
face. In the book, two major characters that greatly influenced this story were Daisy Buchanan and

All of these images are logos. No, not the kind of logos that we learn about in English each year,

consumers will recognize whenever they see it. Usually, along with a short slogan. You know what

Change And Synthesis Essay
Society makes laws in an attempt to control the destiny of that society. Sometimes, these laws are
ineffective and must be changed. Through peaceful resistance, members of a society can express
their discontent and encourage positive reform in a society. It allows citizens a say in the laws that
will govern them. It creates change in laws and governmentwithout violence, which is necessary to
prevent gaining a bad reputation. It also supports our freedoms of speech and assembly.
As American citizens, we are all subject to the law. No person is allowed to break the law. Since
we are all under the law, we should all be able to help decide what the law is. Through peaceful

Avoiding violence is an important part of resistance. Martin Luther King Jr. even said We must
not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise
to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. (King) When physical force is
met with physical force, it erupts into a rebellion. If a rebellion is successful, it will cause
change, but if unsuccessful, it will be destroyed. Peaceful resistance, however, cannot be ignored
and is incredibly respectable. No reasonable amount of physical force can defeat soul force.
According to Thomas Paine is quoted to have said you cannot conquer an idea with an army. A
rebellion has a loser, but peaceful resistance encourages freedoms for all. Few people, if any, can
be harmed by a peaceful protest. The benefits, however, are for many. In the case of the civil rights
movement in the United States, peaceful resistance granted African Americans access to the same
rights as whites had. In India, peaceful resistance granted India freedom from the British Empire.
Peaceful resistance is the foundation of any form of resistance in the modern, developed world,

For the football team, one of my goals was for our team to finish off the season with a winning

everyone wrong. Our varsity team consisted of only seven players, which meant that we only had

Throughout my life, I have impacted the lives of few people. Growing up around non Christian
relatives it was hard to express my faith around people who never heard about God. Although it
was a challenge for me, I was able to reach out to one my closest cousins. My cousin s name was
ironically Christian. Christian had a troubled childhood, one that seemed like a nightmare. He
was raised by a single mother, since his dad was fatally shot by a rival cartel in Mexico.
Christian would get in and out of trouble at school, to the point where he was expelled for having
possession of marijuana. He was then forced to go to a military school for kids that had bad
grades or bad behavior. During that time, I would talk to him occasionally to see what he was up
to. I knew he was making a lot of bad choices, but I never judged him for it. I was just waiting for
the right day to invite him to church with me. At that time, I did it because I knew he was lonely
and still hurting from the lost of his father. I figured that it would be a thousand times better for
him to be at church than being up to no good. Surprisingly, Christian accepted the invitation. Due
to that choice he made, his life was forever changed. Christian actually liked the feeling of being
at church and told me that he wanted to continue to come along with me every Saturday. He told
me that being in church was the only place that can fill an emptiness he had deep inside. Sadly,
Christian came with me to church a few more times, but strayed away by some friends who were
bad influences. I knew it was going to happen in a matter of time, but I thought his absence
would only be temporary. Few years passed, Christian then invites me over to hang out. As we
talked, he brought up that he wanted to start going to church again. He said that during his
absence he still believed in God, but his girlfriend and his friends kept him from going. I was really
shocked, but at the same time was very happy. Just over a week ago,

I had spent about a year researching various places to move and I identified Gainesville as a great
place, a conclusion also reached by Money Magazine in 1995. One of the reasons I thought
Gainesville would be a good move was the low cost of housing. My first purchase was a mobile
home, on a one acre lot, in a nearby city. That worked out very well. The seller s agent made a
mistake at closing that saved me $2,500 on what was supposed to be a $28,000 transaction. The
mortgage was five years and paid off on time. I still own the lot though the mobile home is no
longer there. A couple of years later I bought my first house in Gainesville. I grew up in New
York City. Half a million dollars would not buy the attached house with the postage stamp sized
backyard I grew up in. I also lived in Boston in the 1980s, where $250,000 would buy a large,
though very chic walk in closet. My first house in Gainesville was on the city line and cost me
$40,000 in a private, owner financed sale. It came without an A/C system but a small window
unit made up for that. It sat on a 1/4 acre lot, virtually unheard of now in Boston or New York. I
paid 10% down and got a 30 year mortgage at a very acceptable rate of 6.5%. Over the next couple
of years I bought, and still own, three more houses in the same way. Two are on the same block as
my original house and one is on the next block. In 1998 few people thought any of the houses

The Death Defying Dunk
The Death Defying Dunk
Summarize: A 22 year old male, Joe Hamilton, suffered a cardiac arrest while playing basketball.
Consequently, responders proceeded with cardiopulmonary resuscitation and electrical
defibrillations that lead to a pulse return, however Joe remained in a coma.
Ask: What is a normal ECG and how do you read it?
Access/Generate:
After Joe Hamilton s cardiac arrest, an AED was placed on his chest and proceeded to analyze
his cardiac rhythm (see Figure 1) and returned an inadequate rhythm. Figure 1 In the early 1920
the development of the electrocardiogram provided objective information about the hearts
structure and function. The evolution of the ECG lead to new inventions that led to the 12 lead
electrocardiogram (1). With this new invention a systematic way of interpreting an
Electrocardiograph soon developed. The layout of the graph is as such: there are 4 columns
which correspond to the leads; the first column I, II, and III; the second column: aVR, AVL, aVF;
the third V1 3; and the fourth V4 6. Each column is recorded simulation however they are not
always displayed on the strip except for the last rhythm strip which occurs at the bottom of the
tracing (lead II and V1).
The labels of the waves indicate a particular action on the heart. P waves represent atrial
depolarization or atrial contraction. The QRS complex indicates ventricular depolarization. While
QRS is normally seen not ever complex has Q (negative deflection), R (positive

10% of all possible donors give blood once a year, we will NEVER have a blood shortage problem.
Also, patients can eliminate their apprehensions about receiving blood if only clean blood donors

The Techniques Used in American Beauty Essay
The п¬Ѓlm American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes is a п¬Ѓlm about imprisonment and escape
from imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban
family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at
the ultimate cost of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the
meaning of this п¬Ѓlm such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack.
Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience.
Throughout American Beauty, MendesКј use of set design and camera angles have been carefully
structured to emphathise the п¬ЃlmКјs theme of imprisonment. In the opening scene the

Interestingly, as the п¬Ѓlm progresses and LesterКјs relationships evolve, the camera angles also
evolve in reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low angle and characters like
Carolyn are shot in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is now vulnerable. These altered camera
angles give Lester a triumphant image.
Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised
by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes
powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their
imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript,
as Mendes (1999) states when referring to LesterКјs work setting. As LesterКјs quest for
escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this п¬Ѓlm
through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with LesterКјs sexual
fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is п¬Ѓrst introduced when Lester and Carolyn
attend JaneКјs cheer performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his п¬Ѓrst tunnel of
fantasy (Mendes, 1999). Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the
colour red symbolises passion and love. The significance of the rose petal and the colour red is
repeatedly seen throughout the п¬Ѓlm in house furnishings such as a bouquet of

A Statue of a Sphinx (Object E12326) A sphinx is a mythical creature with the body of a lion and
the head of a human. These creatures were built as sculptures near the temples as guardians. A
sphinx symbolizes the intelligence of man united with the physical dominance of a lion (Giblin
121). The sphinx is a purely Egyptian creation, that was first started in the 4th dynasty at about
2575 BCE (Giblin 23). In Egypt sphinxes were generally associated with the sun god and with the
king as a living image. (Zivie Coche 148). The sun god was a vital part of Egyptian theology in
almost every dynasty. The sun disk God, Aten became the monotheistic focus of Egyptian theology
while Re and Atun were very prominent Egyptian gods that also represented the sun. Whenever
sphinxes were placed in front of Egyptian temples, they had a solar symbol or significance attached
to it.
The Granite Sphinx of Ramses II wears a headdress and false beard to signify representation of a

The yearning to seek enlightenment and power leading to consequential fate is a theme very
imminent and evident in both storylines. In the myth of Prometheus, Prometheus was hungry for
power when he played god in creating mankind, he seeked to enlighten his creation, which would
increase his power, by attempting to steal fire from Mount Olympus. His actions resulted in an
eternal punishment of having his recurring liver eaten out by eagles everyday. Victor Frankenstein,
although being curious and seeking knowledge and enlightenment, played his hand at god in
creating a humanoid and bringing it to life. Albeit a scientific breakthrough, Victor s curiosity and
desire to learn more brought up negative consequences in the form of his creation committing evil
acts and harming society. Due to conflict between Victor and his monster, the monster murdered
many innocent people, many of which were friends and family of Victor s, and wreaked havoc in
Victor s life, bringing upon him depression, illness, constant fear, guilt and eventually death. These

their own opinions, and so forth. However, the internet also consists of people who give
unnecessary, mean, and hateful opinions to other people for reasons that no one truly
understands. The podcast Act One. Ask Not For Whom The Bell Trolls; It Trolls for Thee by
Lindsey West, is about a female who was constantly getting backlashed over the internet by whom
she referred to as trolls. The internet is usually where people go to voice their opinions over what
they feel is right or wrong; with Lindsey West, she had voiced her opinion and what she felt was
wrong about male comedians using the rape term too often and using carelessly. A result of West

The man had reached out to West, they spoke and he told her that when he was writing the
negative comments about her, he was going through a rough time. His significant other had just
left him, he was uncomfortable in his body, and when he read her post about her accepting her
weight and who she is, it made him rage because he felt threatened. After West and her troll
spoke, he apologized and she forgave him, she gave him the benefit of the doubt that he had
changed for the better. She liked her troll regardless of what he did and how he made her felt.
People on the internet make uncivilized comment to people who s confident to make their

Biometric Authentication And A Safe Deposit Business
This report is to discuss the possible introduction of Biometric Authentication to the Dynamic
Safe Deposit business. The report will go over the possible use of Finger Vein or Facial
Recognition technologies, a comparison of the technologies and a recommendation for the
company s future selection. A GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF BIOMETRIC
AUTHENTICATION SYSTEMS A Biometric authentication is the process of verifying if a user
or the identity of a user is who they claim to be; using digital biological information of the user.
Such pieces of information include finger vein scans, finger prints (ink) and face scans. This
information would be compared to a known database of information where the security team can

Because vein patterns are uniquely located beneath the user s skin and that must have blood
flowing readily through them to be scanned, they are almost impossible to copy or change. This
means that the a finger vein scan would be a very useful and unique way to identify users on our
system and at the same time a very portable method with the size of some of the scanners today.
The customer would approach our security team with their deposit box key. The customer would
place their finger in our finger vein scanner. The finger vein scanner uses LED lights to scan the
veins inside the customer s finger beneath the skin. The system will compare the scan to pre

Research Paper On Scarlet Fever
A gust of warm wind embraces my skin as mama and I sit on a bench under the old tulip tree and
talk of the upcoming spring picnic. The water before of me twinkles as a thousand stars and my
younger twin brothers run wild around our cottage. In this moment life feels perfect. Although in
a blink of an eye life changed from perfect to a nightmare as mama grasped my hand and fell to
the ground below. When papa appears in front of me, I realize I have been screaming. In one
single motion, he lifts mama up and carries her off to the carriage to take her to doctor Stanton. In
that instant my perfect moment ends. Scarlet fever leads to death in almost every case, or at least
that s what doctor Stanton says. Mama has endured this sickness for

Patrick Poib s Igloos
Patrick Poib is a fun loving little polar bear. Patrick lives in Greenland in the icy cold tundra with
his mother Polly Poib, and his dad, Pete Poib. In their little igloo they play around, eat and sleep,
but when they are not in their igloo they are out cloud gazing, on the weekends. They always eat
either fresh caught fish for all of their meals, or they eat yummy Eskimos that hunt caribous. Polly
and Pete have the same job, they re igloobuilders. Polly designs the houses, and Pete builds them.
Patrick goes to school and walks home or takes the sled with his friend Linda the lemming. The
Poibs, at the end of the day, meet up in their igloo and eat lunch all together.
One day a strange thing happened, more than strange, it was almost something that has never
happened in Greenland; Patrick s house started to melt. It was during summer, which is not very
hot though, but still sunny, but this has never happened before. Greenland s normal temperature
outside is 27В° Celsius to 5В° Celsius; it is always cold! Now the sun is getting even stronger,
and it has reached the highest it has ever been in Greenland! It was during the night when
Patrick s igloo started melting, the first sign of it was the water dripping from the ceiling; it only
dripped on Patrick, but he ignored it. The next night Patrick was soaking wet and his home was
wearing out and barely had a ceiling anymore; the Poib family woke up in the middle of the night,
and saw the dark sky and the dwarf trees surrounding

Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Sixth Sense
The director M. Night Shyamalan used different methods to construct and format the theme of the
film, The Sixth Sense . He uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to help the viewer
understand the movie and see that it is more than what you first perceive. In The Sixth Sense a
boy named Cole Sear has a sixth sense that is haunting him at the beginning of the movie. He sees
things that other people can t see. He can also hear things that other people can t. He can see
ghosts, among people as if living like nothing ever happened. A Doctor named Dr. Malcolm Crowe
tries to help Cole with his problem until he realizes that Cole is very much like one of his other
patients, Vincent Grey, who was a boy that had the exact same symptoms. Ultimately the director
uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to construct the theme of communication within the
film. Throughout the movie, The Sixth Sensedirector M. Night Shyamala utilizes foreshadowing
to hint to the viewers what will happen next throughout the film. Foreshadowing was used as a
valuable tool more than just once throughout the motion picture. For example, in the beginning
Vincent Grey breaks into Dr. Malcolm Crowe s home. Vincent Grey was a former patient of
Crowe s. Throughout this emotional scene Vincent tells him that he had failed him and then
Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. Dr. Crowe gets shot in the kidney. That would be a fatal
wound to anyone. Although the audience doesn t know that, because that was only a flashback.
The movie then moves to the next fall and it appears that Crowe is alive. This example indicates
that Dr. Crowe is a ghost himself. Another instance of foreshadowing is Cole Sear is the only
person to speak to Dr.Crowe throughout the film. Even though Dr. Crowe speaks and tries to
communicate with other people, no one speaks back. Dr. Crowe only sees what he wants to see.
This is also an indication Dr. Crowe is dead. As the film went on one may notice that Dr. Crowe
only wore an undershirt, a shirt over it and a coat. And he switches all the time, but he never wears
anything besides that.Living people usually change their clothes. Another foreshadow is in the
beginning, when Cole speaks to Dr. Crowe in the church he spoke in

Reflection On Being A Dietitian
My journey to become a registered dietitian has been longer and maybe more complex than the
average college students. As a first generation college student I was faced with many challenges
that to this day have shaped me in a unique way as a dietitian. During this year of my internship, I
want to be able to reflect on my own growth, strengths and weaknesses and be open to feedback to
improve as a dietitian.
Strengths
As a future dietitian, I can see in myself that I am passionate to work with he Hispanic community,
utilizing my Spanish speaking skills and working with low socioeconomic populations. Growing up
as low socioeconomic Hispanic community, I feel that I can relate to my community more than the
average health professional. I love working with children and getting to know them and their
family. As a health professional that will be working with trying to change dietary lifestyles, I think
that having that cultural competency with this particular community will always be useful. My
Spanish skills can help me gain the confidence of some of my patients or clients and find better
ways to assess their needs.
Another one of my current strengths would be that I am very detail oriented and specially in a
clinical setting, can be quite useful. Being able to pay attention to minor details can be the best way
to assess a patient and find the best method of working with them.
Furthermore, as an undergraduate student, I made sure to explore various areas of nutrition

A New Drug Development Process
Introduction: A new drug development process starts with animal testing, before it is been tested
in humans. These animal studies are designed to ensure that the drug is effective and safe in
animals. Moreover, the results obtained should be reproducible. But even the reproducible results
on animal studies cannot provide relevant prediction of the safe and effectiveness of a new drug.
Scientists often stipulate the structural and physiological similarities between human and animals
as a reason for performing animal testing and then relating or extrapolating the results for the first
in human clinical testing, also known as Phase I clinical trials. Although, it is very clear that the
human life expectancy is much higher compared to animals, because of the way things
metabolize in human body, or to the environment a human body is exposed to or due to the
minute genetic difference between human species and some other species. Also, diseases which
are imposed by genetic engineering into the animals during animal studies differ significantly
than the natural occurrence of a disease. Scientists are aware of these flaws that come with the
use of animal model testing, like drugs that may be safe and effective in animals might not
necessarily be safe and effective in humans. One such example is Thalidomide , which was used
in 1950 s as a sedative product and was used to treat morning sickness of pregnant women. This
drug was totally safe and effective in animals, but when used

Adolf Hitler s Master Race
Introduction: Adolf Hitler was the leader of the German Aryans during World War Two, Hitler
was the Chancellor of Germany and his main goal was to create a master race to take over the
world. Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in a tavern in Austria. Hitler was born into his
family with 5 others siblings. His Father Alois Schickelgruber and Mother Klara Potzl changed
all of their family members last names to Hitler because, both of Adolf s Grandparents, Aunts,
Uncles, and most of his family members were Jewish. Adolf s father died when he was thirteen
years old, his siblings abandoned him, and he was left alone with his mother and he had to work
to take care of her. But Shortly after Alois died, his mother, Klara died aswell and he was all
alone. Although Hitler wanted to create a master race, he violated his own standards, and in the
end, he took his own life.
Adolf Hitler s goal was to create a master race. He saw the german people the best race in the
world, and that they could cleanse other countries and he called his master race the Aryans. Since
Hitler was baptized catholic, he believed that any other people outside the faith were condemned to
hell but he took that idea way too far, and he viewed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a picture showing that he was the almighty cleansing benevolent der Furher. And that He could be

Difference between the Melting Pot and Salad Bowl Theories
The melting pot culture refers to people from various cultures coming together to create a new
unique culture. (Lorenzo, 2000) In other words, these cultures have melted together in a pot . For
example, Chinese, Koreans, Germans and more cultures blended in together to create a whole new
American culture. They are not Chinese Americans, Korean Americans or German Americans
anymore but just Americans. On the other hand, salad bowl culture refers to immigrants who do
not lose the aspects of their cultures. . (Lorenzo, 2000) To put it in another way, you can still
clearly see the different ingredients in a salad bowl . As a contrast to the melting pottheory s
example, Chinese Americans, Korean Americans and German Americans will still keep the unique
traits of their cultures while living together in the country. America has been traditionally referred
to as a melting pot , but recently; there are people who argue that salad bowl will be a better
description of America s society today.
The term melting pot was perhaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no absolute right or wrong in choosing either one. Clear arguments and examples
regarding both theories are given above. However, in my opinion, instead of labelling a nation
as a gigantic melting pot or a salad bowl , I would love to have a mix of both. Too much of
something is never good. But with a mix and match of both theories, it might suits today s society
better. Combining both theories is like citizens will have a second option to study their own
languages while also studying the primary language. (Tititudoranceacom, 2015) Having a mix of
both theories will also be like immigrants can still practice their own respective cultures while also
implant the love for their host country. (Tititudoranceacom, 2015) To put it in a food metaphor,
why can t we have a dish where all ingredients are mixed together but they are still having their own

Malcolm X and journalist Alex Haley. It was based on a series of interviews spanning from 1963
to Malcolm X s assassination on February 21st, 1965. Autobiography was written for two purposes:
to chronicle Malcolm Xs rise to prominence during the Civil Rights Movement and to outline his
philosophy of black pride, black nationalism, and pan Africanism. However, following his
assassination, Autobiography s epilogue (written by Alex Haley) described the development of the
book as well as the events towards the end of Malcolm X s life. Autobiography traces Malcolm s

The Aging Population Of America
Introduction
The aging population in America is growing quickly and is projected to double by the year 2050.
The current growth in the number and proportion of older adults in the United States is
unprecedented in our nation s history. By 2050, it is anticipated that Americans aged 65 or older
will number nearly 89 million people (The State of Aging and Health in America, 2013). Along
with this increase in the aging population, it is estimated that by the year 2020, 157 million
Americans will have some form of chronic illness (Taking Care: Ethical Caregiving in Our
Society, 2005). With advances in medicine, people are able to live longer lives with chronic
illnesses that in the past resulted in a decreased life expectancy.
In addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To compensate for this, many are looking towards helping older adults stay in their home for as
long as possible, even if they experience functional or cognitive impairments. This idea is known as
aging in place. In the USA, 95% of adults over the age of 75 want to age in place. There are
benefits and challenges to aging in place. The benefits of aging in place are that it improves
perceived quality of life and is cost effective, whereas the challenges include declines in cognitive
and functional abilities of older adults, as well as time pressures on formal and informal caregivers
who must visit older adults in their homes throughout the community (Connelly, Laghari, Mokhtari,
Falk, 2014).
Fortunately, there are technologies that can assist with aging in place. These technologies produce
better health outcomes, lower caregiver burden, and save money over the life of the individual.
There are several types of technologies which will be discussed in this paper, which include
technologies that provide education and support social networking, technologies that support
monitoring and management of health and well being, and chronic conditions, and finally
technologies that support interactions with the healthcare system (Marchibroda, 2015). This
research paper will show that the use of technology will greatly benefit the elderly population in
helping them to age in place.

Home Front Rationing
During the war, people received ration books. The books included the person s name, address,
city and state. People were also given ration coins that allowed cashiers to give change for food
purchased with ration stamps. People were given these because items during the war were scarce.
The first food item s prices that were frozen on the market by the United StatesOffice of Price
Administration (OPA) were sugar and coffee.
The reason things were rationed was due to little production. Was items were the priority of
being produced over household items to help win the war. This meant that everything needed to
be rationed for everyone to get their equal share. Sugar, meat, tires, silk, gasoline, shoes, nylon,
and more were all rationed to American people. Chicken wire, used for fencing in animals was
also being rationed. Pretty much anything you could think of had to be rationed, because the
most important focus at the time was the war. The title of Few Nylons meant that women had
rations on stockings. Also their clothes were cut down to save material. Their hem and belt
width was cut down to two inches. The cuffs on the sleeves of their clothes were no longer
allowed. The availability of nylon stockings was scarce. The restrictions for women s apparel
saved yardage of material for other clothes used in war. The War Production Board (WPB) was in
charge of ensuring that armed forces had all their supplies to win the war. Since they were in a

Architecture And Design Of The Modern Era
As individuals, we all have multifarious requirements for the buildings we use and the places we
live in, work and socialise in needs to mirror this diversity. In other words, to suit whatever purpose
we require from the structure and to make sure it functions as the designer envisaged.
Construction methods are constantly changing, and yet we can still appreciate the beauty, charm
and graceful lines of architecture dating back hundreds of years. This includes magnificent
buildings of the modern period as well as the traditional historical ones, brought to us from across
the world by the medium of pictures, either as moving images or stills.
Artists of each progressive era found these buildings a source of fascination, as they revealed a
breath taking beauty in the urban landscape.
It can be argued that architecture and design have proved more significant in the establishment of
cultures as civilisations developed. For the vast majority of the population, buildings are what
they saw and used in their everyday lives, it was either a place they lived in, worked in or
sometimes visited. Generally it was only the rich and privileged and this included religious
establishments who saw, and more importantly appreciated what was known as art . The general
population was fairly ambiguous to art and the aesthetics of architecture by adopting a more
pragmatic view of their surroundings. For most of them it did not excite their intellect, as they were
more concerned about order and

  • 2. Procedure Of Completing The Tender Once the contracting company has been selected through a single or two stage tender. The procedure of completing the tender and actually getting the project is the next step. Tender process An invitation to tender is a formal invitation to make an offer for the project There are several parts to form a tender and to put in a bid to the client. In this section each part of the tender process would be explained in detail. When it comes to tendering for a bid, it is important to understand that the different bidders that have been invited to bid are submitting a contract, explaining why they would be perfect for the project. The first information for a design and build tender would be defining the contract, giving details of timescales for commencement and completion. By defining the contract, the company the tender is sent to, will instantly know what the contract is about and have a brief idea of how they are putting in a bid for it. When it comes to construction, timescale is very important. If a project is delayed or starts late, the client is losing out on money and on a big project or on any project, you want to save as much money as possible but still have the best result. So by giving details for the commencement and completion of the project gives the client an idea when it would be done by and they can decide if that is in the same timescale they d want the project done by. After defining the contract, the contract conditions follow. The contract conditions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Internship Reflection Storyline summary The Internship is a film in which two middle aged salesmen, Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson) find that their careers have become redundant due to the increasing growth and development of modern technology, in which they are not well versed. Billy McMahon and Nick Campbell now face unemployment and have no desirable directions to venture towards. It is in the time of this crisis that Billy McMahon shows his resilience to surrender as he spots the opportunity of a Google internship. Their unorthodox interview responses and persuasive salesmen nature causes the Google management to be intrigued enough to accept them into the intern program in spite of their clear lack of the necessary expertise. The source of this conflict is due to a lack of communication from their former employer, who failed to inform them of the business s foreclosure. Furthermore, the emotional reactions from Billy, Nick and their employer allowed for the conflict to fester. The former employer neglected to manage this dysfunctional conflict and thus neither of the conflicted parties benefitted. • 4. Prometheus And The Instinctive Man Prometheus, a tale over 2000 years old, is still as relevant in the modern era as it was all those years ago in Athens. Prometheus is seen throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, especially in pop culture, frequently as a martyr and hero, however there is a much more profound parallel that can be made about his timeless character. He represents the consequences of when one seeks knowledge, independency, and especially enlightenment. From his deviance to his torture, we see how prometheusand the modern man are alike. Prometheus gave humans fire, by doing so that meant that he no longer needed nor respected the gods and that humans would soon follow that example. Prometheus offered an escape from the patriarchal Zeus, who can be compared to the Judeo Christian God, and for doing so he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is chained to a rock in the Caucasus, where his liver is eaten daily by an eagle, all the while watching his own torment. Prometheus is what happens to man when he becomes the instinctive man, as we see quoted from Bertrand Russell s The Problems of Philosophy. The life of the instinctive man is shut up within the circle of his private interests...we remain like a garrison in a beleaguered fortress, knowing that the enemy prevents escape and that ultimate surrender is inevitable. In such a life there is no peace, but a constant strife between the insistence of desire and the powerlessness of will. In one way or another, if our life is to be great and free, we must escape this prison and this strife.(35 36) In his act of defiance, Prometheus becomes the instinctive man. • 5. Homecoming-Personal Narrative 2017 for me was a pretty good year. There were some bumpy parts, but for the most part was a good year. Like the time I snuck into prom and managed to get into the prom pictures, which I am quite proud of. I think the 2017 Homecoming was one was the best Homecomings we ve ever had. But one of my dogs died which was very sad time. 2017 was the year I got my license. Most of my friends had already gotten their license, so it was quite an exciting time for me. My parents had already gotten me a car, so I ll I had to do was take the test and pass. Which I did with flying colors. So, the story of me going to prom wasn t necessarily the most exciting one. • 7. Lighting and Themes in 127 Hours There are plenty of films based on a true story and various ways to use lighting as a part of Mise en ScГ©ne to make all of those films seem more realistic or in sometimes unrealistic whichever is the director s and cinematographer s take on the story. Danny Boyle s take on Aron Ralston s true story of cutting his arm off to live has been to make it as realistic as it possibly can be. The film was shot on and off set, mostly in constructed set of the canyon where Aron Ralston, portrayed by James Franco, was trapped with his arm pinned between a large boulder and the canyon wall. The scene of which lighting and themes this essay will discuss about starts from the point where James Franco s character has just freed himself and starts running... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Josef von Sternberg has said that the proper use of light can embellish and dramatize every object (Josef von Sternberg as quoted in Bordwell 2010, p. 131). As much as the lighting in this scene is used to state Franco s character s state of mind it is also used to dramatize the scene and character s struggle. This applies throughout the whole film and not just in this particular scene. Lighting intensifies Franco s character s facial expressions as well as during his run through the canyon the lighting is darkened and more shadowy most of the time to create realistic condition but it also adds the feeling of length to the run. In the part of the scene where the character is running through the canyon the lighting changes constantly between darker and lighter. It is darker when he struggles and lighter on the easier parts of the distance between his trap and freedom. In the shots that are taken in the canyon the light is colder than in the ones that are taken outside. The fill light is used to soften the contrast of shadows on characters face while he is in the canyon (Pramaggiore and Wallis 2011, p. 111). For the first half of the scene, placed in the canyon, light is constantly coming from above as sunlight between the cracks of the earth to the canyon. Franco s character also keeps looking up to the sunlight after he has been freed from his trap. The character has done that many times before in the film as desperately hoping to be free and now he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vinny Ohh should not be permitted to make surgical changes to become a genderless alien because the surgery has never been performed before and doctors don t know how it would affect his body in now and in the long run. Because of these things, the church had to recover quickly by meeting the challenge that was created. Although the Marcion church did challenge the Christian church, its beliefs were very similar to the Gnostic beliefs in that they believed that the Old Testament was not scripture and should not be treated as such. Up until the mid to late 1900 s the knowledge about Marcion and the Gnostics was only known through the heresiologists. • 11. Uncritical Thinker There are three types of thinkers, Uncritical Persons, skilled manipulators and the fair minded critical persons. The uncritical persons are the ones that the media thrives on. They are the ones that are easily influenced in believing what they hear on the news to be true without doing their own research on what they heard. It is simply true because they read it in the newspaper or saw it on the news. These individuals want to be presented with a simple minded, black and white world (page 299). A person that I can relate to as an uncritical thinker would be boyfriend s mother. She is a difficult person to reason with. She believes in what she hears to be true without actually knowing the facts. She does not search for the truth or care too.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are good at using their power of manipulation to get what they want from people. Skilled manipulators use their skill to take advantage of others and use it to their benefit. My boss is an example of a skilled manipulator. He is constantly controlling and influencing others for his own interests. He knows how to get what he wants no matter the consequences it plays on others. For example, he will tell employee s things they want to hear in order to get them to work longer hours, yet he never follows through with those promises. He actually convinced a guy one night that missing his daughter s softball tournament would benefit him in the long run within the company and so he missed it all because he believed it would get him a promotion. David Foster Wallace, author of the essay Authority and American Usage*, praises and advocates for good writers who have a strong rhetorical ability, which he defines as the persuasive use of language to influence the thoughts and actions of an audience (Wallace 628). To have a strong rhetorical ability, an author needs to be aware of whom their audience is, in order to present their information in a way that will be influential on their audience. They tell me nothing about yourselves; why in the world you are telling me all of this? You need to make me care about the message you are conveying, otherwise, your writing is useless. She then told us that while we were all communicating in the proper format, we had failed to take into consideration whom our audience was. In order to truly persuade and influence our audience, we had to do more than place complicated ideas into a grammatically immaculate sentences; we need to show the audience why they should care about our writing; otherwise, they will just lose interest. Mothers have historically been granted custody in the majority of custody cases as determined in nineteenth century by the tender year s doctrine. Once the tender years doctrine had been determined to be in violation of the fourteenth amendment the primary caretaker rule was developed based on who was the primary caretaker prior to the divorce. With the increase in divorce rates and the legislation of Uniform Marriageand Divorce Act of 1976 set the standard for the Best Interests of the Child. In the book Inanna written by Diane Wolkstein and Samuel Kramer, there are stories of a fertility goddess who patroned one of Sumers great city states named Uruk. American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at the ultimate cost of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the meaning of this п¬Ѓlm such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack. Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript, as Mendes (1999) states when referring to LesterКјs work setting. As LesterКјs quest for escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this п¬Ѓlm through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with LesterКјs sexual fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is п¬Ѓrst introduced when Lester and Carolyn attend JaneКјs cheer performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his п¬Ѓrst tunnel of fantasy (Mendes, 1999). Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the colour red symbolises passion and love. • 43. Theme Of Foreshadowing In The Sixth Sense The director M. Night Shyamalan used different methods to construct and format the theme of the film, The Sixth Sense . He uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to help the viewer understand the movie and see that it is more than what you first perceive. In The Sixth Sense a boy named Cole Sear has a sixth sense that is haunting him at the beginning of the movie. He sees things that other people can t see. He can also hear things that other people can t. He can see ghosts, among people as if living like nothing ever happened. A Doctor named Dr. Malcolm Crowe tries to help Cole with his problem until he realizes that Cole is very much like one of his other patients, Vincent Grey, who was a boy that had the exact same symptoms. Ultimately the director uses foreshadowing, symbolism and motif to construct the theme of communication within the film. Throughout the movie, The Sixth Sensedirector M. Night Shyamala utilizes foreshadowing to hint to the viewers what will happen next throughout the film. Foreshadowing was used as a valuable tool more than just once throughout the motion picture. For example, in the beginning Vincent Grey breaks into Dr. Malcolm Crowe s home. Vincent Grey was a former patient of Crowe s. Throughout this emotional scene Vincent tells him that he had failed him and then Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. Dr. Crowe gets shot in the kidney. That would be a fatal wound to anyone. Although the audience doesn t know that, because that was only a flashback. The movie then moves to the next fall and it appears that Crowe is alive. This example indicates that Dr. Crowe is a ghost himself. Another instance of foreshadowing is Cole Sear is the only person to speak to Dr.Crowe throughout the film. Even though Dr. Crowe speaks and tries to communicate with other people, no one speaks back. Dr. Crowe only sees what he wants to see. This is also an indication Dr. Crowe is dead. As the film went on one may notice that Dr. Crowe only wore an undershirt, a shirt over it and a coat. And he switches all the time, but he never wears anything besides that.Living people usually change their clothes. These animal studies are designed to ensure that the drug is effective and safe in animals. Moreover, the results obtained should be reproducible. Scientists often stipulate the structural and physiological similarities between human and animals as a reason for performing animal testing and then relating or extrapolating the results for the first in human clinical testing, also known as Phase I clinical trials. Although, it is very clear that the human life expectancy is much higher compared to animals, because of the way things metabolize in human body, or to the environment a human body is exposed to or due to the minute genetic difference between human species and some other species. People were also given ration coins that allowed cashiers to give change for food purchased with ration stamps. People were given these because items during the war were scarce. The first food item s prices that were frozen on the market by the United StatesOffice of Price Administration (OPA) were sugar and coffee. The reason things were rationed was due to little production. Was items were the priority of being produced over household items to help win the war. This meant that everything needed to be rationed for everyone to get their equal share. Sugar, meat, tires, silk, gasoline, shoes, nylon, and more were all rationed to American people. Chicken wire, used for fencing in animals was also being rationed. Pretty much anything you could think of had to be rationed, because the most important focus at the time was the war.
