Children are curious about their own identities and how they fit into social groups from a very young age. They learn both overt and covert messages about who is important and who has power from caregivers, media, schools and by making sense of what they observe. By ages 4-5, children have developed pre-prejudgments and ideas about status, stereotypes, and biases that are almost impossible to change after age 10 if not addressed early on.
