History of Synthesis Gas
In 1780, Felice Fontana discovered that combustible gas develops if water vapor is passed over carbon at temperatures over 500 °C. This CO and H2 containing gas was called water gas and mainly used for lighting purposes in the19th century.
As of the beginning of the 20th century, H2/CO-mixtures were used for syntheses of hydrocarbons and then, as a consequence, also called synthesis gas.
Haber and Bosch discovered the synthesis of ammonia from H2 and N2 in 1910 and the first industrial ammonia synthesis plant was commissioned in 1913.
The production of liquid hydrocarbons and oxygenates from syngas conversion over iron catalysts was discovered in 1923 by Fischer and Tropsch.
Much of the syngas conversion processes were being developed in Germany during the first and second world wars at a time when natural resources were becoming scare and alternative routes for hydrogen production, ammonia synthesis, and transportation fuels were a necessity.
In 1943/44, this was applied for large-scale production of artificial fuels from synthesis gas in Germany.

Nanoporous membranes and metal organic frameworks can be used to capture carbon dioxide through thermodynamic potentials and porous crystalline structures, respectively. The captured carbon dioxide can then be converted into methane fuel using nanosized catalysts at low temperatures and pressures or through titania nanotubes and a co-catalyst using sunlight. The resulting methane fuel provides a safe and transportable energy storage medium and feedstock.

The indirect method of producing methanol and using it as a raw material for the synthesis of DME is quite useful for large commercial production. However, current work will demonstrate methanol as a feed and dimethyl ether as an end product. Shell and tube heat exchanger at different operation conditions show that important calculated LMTD and
minimum approach values are feasible for good heat transfer while minimizing power consumption.

We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.

About DME • DME is an organic compound with the formula CH3OCH3. • The simplest ether, it is a colorless gas that is a useful precursor to other organic compoundsand an aerosol propellant. • DME is also promising as a clean-burning hydrocarbon fuel. • DME is primarily produced by converting hydrocarbons, predominantly sourced from natural gas, to synthesis gas. Synthesis gas is then converted into methanol in the presence of catalyst, with subsequent methanol dehydration in the presence of a different catalyst resulting in the production of DME
