The need for Business design to underpin strategic and operational agility Craig Martin
Talk given at the business architecture Master Series in Sydney October 2019.
Agility is here to stay. But dig a little deeper and you will see that fundamental strategic, structural and cultural issues exist that often prevent success within large organizations. Some organizations have learnt the hard way when it comes to the missing pieces of the puzzle around organizational agility.
I was recently asked by a new-ways-of-working team to help them apply business design to create the target operating model needed to enable structural, operational and strategic agility. Is this the secret sauce that’s been missing in the agility conversations?
In this talk I’ll discuss the broader issues around agility when creating the adaptive and fast learning organization. And discuss the "secret sauce" that is missing when it comes to business heuristics and patterns.
I will also look at the areas where agility is succeeding and failing and discuss the need for multi-disciplinary architects that can help with the transition across strategic, business and delivery lenses.
PS - this is a presentation pack. I dont put everything I talk to into a slide. Some of these slides will therefore lack some context for you. Next time I'll record the talk and you can hopefully catch the story around the slides.

Why your Content Marketing is Failing (and how to fix it) Gary DeAsi
View this SlideShare to learn 45+ costly mistakes for why content marketing fails, and actionable tips, resources and examples for how to correct them.
In a digital world where customers have all the power and everyone is a publisher, increasingly high competition and standards are pressuring marketing teams into a race to produce higher quality content, in greater volumes, and at a faster rate than ever before, often with the same amount of resources. But while content is the fuel for every digital marketing engine, not everyone gets the same mileage out of it. A 2016 report from Content Marketing Institute found that while 88% of B2B organizations are using content marketing, only 30% rated their content efforts as being effective for reaching their goals.
This presentation delivers an insightful overview of common costly mistakes that can be killing your content marketing results, and a deep dive on how to maximize content marketing ROI with actionable tips and steps to amplify the impact of every content initiative, including:
The 7 Step Content Marketing Process
1) Personas and Customers: Understanding target customer personas and how to attract and convert them with the right content topics
2) Content Planning and Strategy. Creating monthly and quarterly content plans aligned with each stage of the customer journey, and key business goals, metrics and objectives.
3) Content Production and Design. Digital content creation approaches optimized for search, engagement and conversion.
4) Content Publishing and Promotion. Integrated multi-channel content distribution tactics to reach both larger—and more qualified—target audiences across platforms, and the utilization of data, automation and marketing technology to test, measure and enhance targeting to optimize results.
5) Content Performance and Metrics. Understanding what metrics to track to measure the impact of your content marketing
6) Re-purposing and refining. Smart ways to get more out of your content and increase it lifespan through designing content for re-purposing.
7) People and Process. Building a team with the right skills, knowledge and roles, and implementing an efficient, repeatable content process.

Creating a delightful user experience (UX) is becoming an increasingly important success factor for many digital products, and Scrum is the most popular agile method to build software products. But integrating the UX work with Scrum can be tricky: Scrum provides no guidance on which UX artefacts should be used, when they are created, who creates them and how they fit into the product backlog. This slide deck helps you understand how you can successfully combine UX and Scrum to create software products with a great user experience.
How to Use Your Product Roadmap as a Communication ToolJanna Bastow
Find out how making this one small change at your company can completely shift the way you communicate with your customers for the better.
In this webinar, ProdPad co-founder Janna Bastow will talk about how companies have successfully gone public with their product roadmaps - and share exactly what steps you’ll need to take to launch yours.
You’ll see two dramatic changes when you open the door to your product roadmap to your customers:
- Your customers will know your product vision and your priorities as a company
- Your support team will be able to confidently take customer feedback and answer questions about feature requests.
Even among companies that claim to be committed to transparency, product roadmaps have generally been shrouded in secrecy - the result of a fear of backing out on commitments or missing release dates.
The reality is that companies that share their roadmaps are able to set practical expectations with their customers, communicate priorities and the future of their products clearly and retain their strongest customers.

Business Guide to Branding (Is your brand identity working as hard as you are?)Andy Fuller
To build a business or organisation in today’s world you have to work hard and project an image that creates interest to potential clients and customers. Unless you have created that first positive impression, you stand nowhere in your business market.
Your brand should answer a few simple questions:
Why should people do business with you?
Where is your brand positioned in the competitive landscape?
What message differentiates you?
Is what you do clear to your target market?
In other words, building a successful brand begins with a clear message. The concept must be quick to grasp and easy to understand.

I will talk about what makes a great brand - Triumphs and disasters - Branding do’s and don’ts and show some examples of logo design and brand guidelines…

Presentation to the Cambridge Product Management Network by Liam Crilly and Arthur Meadows
Open-source has grown up from the gift of shareware to become a legitimate business model. Similarly, crowdfunding is no longer an exotic fund-raising mechanism for community-interest projects only. Tokenisation, cryptocurrencies and Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) have streaked across our horizon.
This session looks at these alternative business models and what they mean for technical and marketing decisions in product companies.
This joint session of Cambridge Product Management Network and Cambridge Network explores the common (and not-so-common!) career paths into Product Management and Product Marketing.
This event will cover:
* Where do Product Managers come from - engineering, technical, marketing, sales, operations, other?
* What skills sets do these practitioners inherently bring to product management and marketing?
* What knowledge bridges are needed to jump the gap?
Arthur Meadows, one of the co-founders of CPMN, will present some of the sector's findings on the career trajectory into Product Management / Marketing. Céline Sharpe, Lead Product Writer at FIS, will provide her insights in moving from technical author to product marketer.
This event should appeal to you if you are:
* thinking of branching out into product marketing and product marketing

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.
