Digipaks are promotional packaging for albums that provide extra content beyond just the music. They typically include a CD along with additional materials like photos, lyrics, or DVDs in a folded cardboard design. Well-designed digipaks establish a consistent visual theme throughout and use imagery and symbols that relate to the artist's music or message, allowing fans a deeper connection to and understanding of the album. The author plans to create an original digipak with a cohesive theme to promote their own artist's music, video, and website.

2. What is a Digipak?
• CD’s/ Digipak’s became really popular in the early
2000’s and has remained popular among fans since.
• It is a form of promotional tool for the artist used by
record labels in order to show their audience more
about the album as a whole, instead of providing the
music alone (iTunes).
• A Digipak is a form of CD box that is used by artist
and created for the fans.
• It is most commonly used during the release of a
special edition or re-released album.
• It is usually in the design of a 4 or 6 plate folded card
with the cd in the middle containing a variety of
different features.
• A Digipak may include a DVD, lyric book, artist
photo’s or imagery, and a list of the songs.

3. Incubus Digipak
This is the artist front cover of the Digipak containing smaller
images of them and the majority is being taken over by the art.
This could imply to audiences that the album is about the art of
music not about the artists themselves.
When opening the front cover these are first two images shown,
which match with the art work on the front however much
simpler, showing a continuous theme throughout the artwork.
When the Digipak is fully opened out there is a CD, DVD and
lyric book contained. All of which show the similar artwork
making a clear synchronisation throughout the Digipak.
This also establishes a theme for this album which could be
potentially translated through the music explaining why
the style of artwork was chosen.
The lyric book is an extra feature contained within the Digipak
so that the fans are able to really connect with and understand
the music. The lyrics in the handbook have been types in a
handwritten style. This illustrates originality and rawness of
the artist.

4. Tool Digipak
This front cover is extremely artistic and detailed imply to the
audiences that the music and the artists are very complicated and
deep, which will appeal to their fans. The front cover is also very
dark which is a convention of the rock genre.
When opening the Digipak there is more artwork of the similar
style with contrasting colours illustrating that music could
have dark first perception however the meaning of the songs
could be more positive than it seems. This Digipak also
contains lenses so that the audience are able to view images in
3D which portrays the similar message of the first perception
being different to the real message.
The fact the CD contains similar imagery however in different
contrasting colours means that the CD is meant to be the focus of the
whole Digipak which at the same time matching the theme of the
album/ Digipak.
This also contains the extra feature of the booklet containing
lyrics, imagery of the artists and song information. This
feature is good as it allows the audience to connect with the
artist and allows them to contain an understand of the artists
and the music they create.

5. My Digipak
My group and I will be creating a Digipak to go alongside our
artists music video and website. The Digipak will contain a CD
and the extra features that many other artists use such as artist
imagery, lyrics and a DVD of the music video. This will help to
promote the artist among his audience and give the fans
something extra which cannot be provided with online
downloading. From looking at other artists Digipak’s it is evident
that their should be a continuous theme throughout the Digipak
and this will make all of the features and the artist connected. It
would also be good to chose a theme that had a subliminal
message about the music or the artist within our Digipak as it
would be another form of understanding between the artist and
the audience. Also it could potentially make the Digipak more
appealing.
