How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?


Using the combination of a music video and digipack containing an album and
magazine advert is an effective method in trying to promote an unsigned artist or a
song that is unknown. Music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing
device intended to promote the sale of music recordings, this is as they allow viewers
to come to terms with the song and put an image to it instead of just hearing the song
alone. The use of a magazine advert promotes the artist by showing people when the
song will be released and where you can go to purchase it. Having a chance to
produce an album puts an artist a step ahead as if people enjoy listening to the song
that has been promoted there is a high chance that they would then purchase and listen
to the album. This means that the artist would then become well known and become
more and more popular.




When designing my album cover I decided that having a black background with an
image and colour with glitter would be more effective than trying to put other images

on a background that wasn’t completely black. In order to change the background of
my chosen photograph I had to use Adobe Photoshop CS4 to cut around the image
and transfer it onto a plain back background, I then looked for images of paint
splashes on the




                                                    The use of bright, neon colours has
                                                    been a constant theme throughout our
                                                    media production. Having a black
                                                    background creates a sleek look,
                                                    however, by adding hints of bright
                                                    colours reinforces the pop genre that
                                                    our video belongs to. The circle design
                                                    of my background came from the
                                                    internet as I wanted to have bright
                                                    colours with circles or stars. I then
                                                    designed stars and added them around
                                                    the advert to make it look more
                                                    occupied.




At the planning stage of our production we
decided that we wanted to have a lot of glitter
within the production and very bold, eye-
catching colors that would automatically draw
the attention of our audience and especially
help them identify with the genre. Throughout
our music video we used a variety of styles as
we wanted to keep to the conventions of pop
videos. We also wanted to make our artist
very glamorous as this is also something that you see within pop videos.

When I was editing our video, I tried to make use of many close-ups as it is a key
feature of pop videos, showing confidence of the artist and showing facial
expressions, producing meaning for the viewer. Using a variety of shots within the
production was something I thought would be effective as it keeps the viewer
entertained, instead of just using basic shots.

                                         When conducting my research, I looked at the
                                         way Lady Gaga had been promoted as her work
                                         had a major influence on our production as she
                                         is a well known pop artist. As an artist, Lady
                                         Gaga has produced a few albums that have been
                                         very successful; she also has many music videos

that are very interesting and entertaining to watch, although she was an inspiring
example throughout our production we still tried to keep our ideas as original as
possible. When producing our music video, we followed the conventions of using
bold make up and costume changes; however, the style of make up was quite unique
because it was quite unusual. Choreography was something that we used a lot in our
production as it is a key convention of pop videos as they tend to be very performance
based, even though we used back up dancers within our production, our main focus
was on the performance of our artist.


If our music video was to be put on market I think it would be successful as it has
followed the conventions needed to be classed as a pop video but also differentiates
from that already on the market. I came to this conclusion as throughout our video we
have used shots that keep the viewer wanting to watch; we have experimented with
shots and different effects creating meaning for the viewer. For example we used
unusual shots like the 360 rotation and the panning around the artist. Our production
is something that would appeal to a wide audience, containing people of a variety of
ages as pop music is something that many people listen to and enjoy.

  • 1. Daniella Lawrence Question 2 A2 Media production How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text? Using the combination of a music video and digipack containing an album and magazine advert is an effective method in trying to promote an unsigned artist or a song that is unknown. Music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings, this is as they allow viewers to come to terms with the song and put an image to it instead of just hearing the song alone. The use of a magazine advert promotes the artist by showing people when the song will be released and where you can go to purchase it. Having a chance to produce an album puts an artist a step ahead as if people enjoy listening to the song that has been promoted there is a high chance that they would then purchase and listen to the album. This means that the artist would then become well known and become more and more popular. When designing my album cover I decided that having a black background with an image and colour with glitter would be more effective than trying to put other images

In order to change the background of my chosen photograph I had to use Adobe Photoshop CS4 to cut around the image and transfer it onto a plain back background, I then looked for images of paint splashes on the The use of bright, neon colours has been a constant theme throughout our media production. Having a black background creates a sleek look, however, by adding hints of bright colours reinforces the pop genre that our video belongs to. The circle design of my background came from the internet as I wanted to have bright colours with circles or stars. I then designed stars and added them around the advert to make it look more occupied. At the planning stage of our production we decided that we wanted to have a lot of glitter within the production and very bold, eye- catching colors that would automatically draw the attention of our audience and especially help them identify with the genre. Throughout our music video we used a variety of styles as we wanted to keep to the conventions of pop videos. We also wanted to make our artist very glamorous as this is also something that you see within pop videos.

Daniella Lawrence Question 2 A2 Media production When I was editing our video, I tried to make use of many close-ups as it is a key feature of pop videos, showing confidence of the artist and showing facial expressions, producing meaning for the viewer. Using a variety of shots within the production was something I thought would be effective as it keeps the viewer entertained, instead of just using basic shots. When designing my album cover I decided that having a black background with an image and colour with glitter would be more effective than trying to put other images on a background that wasn’t completely black. When conducting my research, I looked at the way Lady Gaga had been promoted as her work had a major influence on our production as she is a well known pop artist. As an artist, Lady Gaga has produced a few albums that have been very successful; she also has many music videos

Daniella Lawrence Question 2 A2 Media production that are very interesting and entertaining to watch, although she was an inspiring example throughout our production we still tried to keep our ideas as original as possible. When producing our music video, we followed the conventions of using bold make up and costume changes; however, the style of make up was quite unique because it was quite unusual. Choreography was something that we used a lot in our production as it is a key convention of pop videos as they tend to be very performance based, even though we used back up dancers within our production, our main focus was on the performance of our artist. If our music video was to be put on market I think it would be successful as it has followed the conventions needed to be classed as a pop video but also differentiates from that already on the market. I came to this conclusion as throughout our video we have used shots that keep the viewer wanting to watch; we have experimented with shots and different effects creating meaning for the viewer. For example we used unusual shots like the 360 rotation and the panning around the artist. Our production is something that would appeal to a wide audience, containing people of a variety of ages as pop music is something that many people listen to and enjoy.
