X-rays interact with the atoms in a crystal and can undergo either constructive or destructive interference depending on the phase shift according to Bragg's Law. Bragg's Law states that constructive interference occurs when the extra distance traveled by an x-ray beam scattering off a plane of atoms is equal to an integer multiple of the wavelength.
