There are many things that we take advantage of in our everyday lives. The sun
always rises and sets and like the sun, who has always done its job, he too slowly
fades away.
Much like the sun, art and film also fade but are in need of restoration. We cannot
restore the sun be we can and we do restore fine art and sculpture yet the films we
watch are fading away and the reason this problem is important is because we are
losing our history of film.
Each film created captures a moment in the history of humans. Presidencies, natural
disasters, and technology advancements are a few examples of important events or
discoveries that film records. Without proper preservation, we lose this history.
Our stories and culture must be protected and this idea is not disputed in the
general art world but in the film world, we are losing art and history as you read
this review. In The Unsung Heroes of Cinema, director Andrew Saladino, who
works under The Royal Ocean Film Society, brings attention to the matter that we
could lose half of all short films made before 1950. There is a need for restoration
