This document presents a design for a primary wastewater treatment plant for Qamar Sialvi Colony in Gujrat, Pakistan. Source of water pollution
• Point-source pollutant is one that reaches
water from a single pipeline or channel,
such as a sewage discharge or outfall pipe.
• Dispersed sources are broad, unconfined
areas from which pollutants enter a body of
water.

6. Primary Treatment
 The objective of primary treatment is the removal
of settle able organic and inorganic solids.
 Approximately 25 to 50% of the incoming
biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), 50 to 70%
of the total suspended solids (SS), and 65% of the
oil and grease are removed during primary
treatment.
 In many industrialized countries, primary
treatment is the minimum level of pre application
treatment required for wastewater irrigation.

maturity

 Can be difficult to move or transport (due to
weight)
 Lack of residual protection (risk of re-
contamination)

 Bio Sand filter is based on the
concrete filter process but uses a
plastic container.
 Making the container itself
much lighter and easier to transport.
 Removal of most of the contaminants
and pathogens from the source water
takes place at the top of the sand.
