This document describes the design of a horseshoe-shaped cross passage between two tunnels. Cross passages are provided for emergency escape and maintenance. The cross passage is designed to withstand various loads including earth pressures, hydrostatic pressures, live loads, and surcharge loads. Structural design involves temporary and permanent linings to support excavation and resist loads. Geotechnical methods like ground freezing and grouting are used to improve ground strength. Detailed structural analysis is performed for flexure, shear, compression, and radial tension limit states. Reinforcement ratios and bar sizes are designed to satisfy strength and serviceability limits for the horseshoe shaped cross passage.
