I Have A Dream Essay Examples
Crafting an essay on the topic "I Have A Dream Essay Examples" can be quite challenging due
to several factors. Firstly, the theme is deeply rooted in historical and cultural contexts, requiring
a comprehensive understanding of the iconic "I Have a Dream" speech delivered by Martin
Luther King Jr. This necessitates thorough research to grasp the nuances of the speech, the civil
rights movement, and the social and political climate of the time.
Furthermore, the challenge lies in presenting unique and insightful perspectives that go beyond
mere summarization. It demands critical analysis and interpretation of the speech, exploring its
impact on society, its relevance today, and potential lessons for the future. The essay should
avoid being overly generic and strive to offer a fresh perspective on a well-known and widely
discussed topic.
Expressing ideas coherently and persuasively is another hurdle. The essay must be well-
structured, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Balancing factual information with
personal insights, and ensuring a smooth flow of ideas, requires a high level of writing skill.
Moreover, addressing the emotional and inspirational elements of the speech adds another layer
of complexity. Capturing the essence of Dr. King's vision and conveying its significance in a
compelling manner is no easy task. Striking the right tone and evoking the intended emotions
while maintaining academic rigor can be challenging.
In conclusion, composing an essay on "I Have A Dream Essay Examples" demands a
combination of historical knowledge, analytical skills, creativity, and effective writing. It's a task
that goes beyond mere regurgitation of information, requiring a thoughtful and nuanced
approach to create a meaningful and impactful piece of writing.

The Role Of Interconnection In Abina
The goals of the feminist and women s rights movements are first to create equality
amongst all people. All people are deserving of quality health care, unconditional love
and mutual respect. Human rights are at the heart of women s issues, whether you
are a woman, man or child, everyone, is entitled to basic human rights as individuals.
As a marginalized section of the population, women should be interested in the
elimination of patriarchal ideologies and systems that continually seep into middle
America. As women we must practice and support the feminist movement throughout
the world. For even, if one womanis disregarded, we are all collectively disregarded
as a movement and as a force that can emit change.

The world is a global community where one environment effects another. It is a
cascading effect where one community connects into another just as a lake connects
in to the river system, river systems connect into vast expanses of oceans and seas.
Interconnection is key to global success.
In the excitement of it all, let us not lose sight of the goal. There is always the
exception as in Abina. Abina is sent to live with Quamina Eddoo s sister, Eccoah,
who, to an extent, was also a part of the slave trade. Eccoah took on the role of
master so she would not be but allowed to rule over others. Individual ethics and
commitments as stated in the charter are basic human rights that all people should
aspire to. Although, Albina is devastated when told the verdict, she secured a huge
victory for all women! She set in motion a new precedent within the courts. A
precedent that would consider accepting women as an agency, women as self
sufficient and women as decision makers. Albina has been confident in herself as a
person, not just a woman. Abina may not have won the judgment in the courts she
had hoped for but by daring to come up against her aggressors she is victorious for
all womanhood!

Rewards divided into two part the first part is intrinsic rewards and extrinsic

Gum Disease Research Paper
Periodontal (gum) disease is a preventable condition, yet it affects almost half of the
American population, according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention,
and it s the most common reason for tooth loss in adults. While these are disturbing
statistics, your teeth and gums can remain healthy for a lifetime when you know the
cause of gum disease and how to prevent it. And believe it or not, a dental discount
plan is another tool that can help you fight this sneaky disease and save you money.
Cause of Periodontal Disease
Bacteria in the mouth continually form a sticky film on the teeth called plaque
especially around the gum line. When allowed to remain on the teeth, bacterial plaque
hardens into tartar, which causes the gums to become inflamed and swollen. But the
good news is this first stage of gum disease (gingivitis) can be reversed, and your
gums can become healthy again. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bacteria trapped in these pockets ultimately cause the breakdown of bone and tissue
supporting the teeth. This stage is called periodontitis, and while it can be treated, it
is not reversible. And if too much bone is lost, one or more teeth may need to be
removed.
Signs and Symptoms
Gum disease is frequently called insidious because it can be painless and damage
your gums and bone without you knowing it. Therefore, if you should notice any of
the following symptoms, see a dentist right away.

Negativity as A Cause of Decline
Negativity in the workplace and the demand of jobs are causing a decline in
American work ethic. Work ethic is a set of values that is based on hard work,
attitude, and character. The three main causes of negativity in the workplace are
people are negative, people are discriminated against, and single parents are trying to
raise their child(ren) while working. As negativity in the workplace increases, morale,
productivity, and work ethic decrease. When there is negativity in the workplace,
customers can be chased away. Negativity not only causes work ethic to decline, but
it causes the number of customers to decline. People that come into to work negative
can affect everyone else around them. Negative employees affect everyone that they...

Single parents trying to make a living and be in their children s lives can also
cause negativity in the workplace. This can cause negativity because people are
asked to work overtime at work or switch hours with someone for a certain reason.
It s hard for a single parent to work overtime when they want to be in their children
s lives and they are the only parent in the household. It s also hard for them to
switch hours because when they find a job they usually try to find a job that gives
them hours while their children are in school so that they can be with them before
and after school and on the weekends. There are some jobs that fire people because
they can t work overtime or switch hours or ask for off time on a holiday. Some
single parents are even working minimum wage jobs just so that they have some kind
of income coming in to support them and their family. Dujon made a very good
point, If businesses had a work ethic they would gladly establish a family friendly
culture that allows parents to meet their children s physical, psychological and
financial needs. (Dujon par. 2) This is true because if a business had a work ethic
then they would understand the importance of family values. There are after school
programs, but most of them are too expensive for someone working a minimum or
low wage job and raising a family. It s also hard to find a baby sitter when most
people have a job and many people don t know their neighbors well enough to allow

Persuasive Essay On Redemption
In the Bible there is a story about a cruel and hateful man named Saul. He would
track down and kill anyone belonging to the then new Christian faith, and he hated
anything to do with Jesus. He would put both men and women into prison, and he
was responsible for approving the stoning of one of the seven disciples told to go
out and tell people about Jesus, Stephen. And he is probably one of the most
classic examples of redemption known to Western Christian civilization. To put his
long story concisely, he was traveling to Damascus and then Jesus approached him
from heaven, blinding him with light and telling him he needed to do what Jesus
said. Blind and helpless, he didn t eat or drink anything for three days, and then
Jesus sent a man named Ananias who was actually very much afraid of Saul to
heal his blindness, because God had chosen him to be a disciple. When Saul was
healed, he turned away from his genocidal ways, and eventually became known as
Paul, a messenger of the Good News of Christ and the main writer of a chunk of
the New Testament of the Bible. This Saul to Paul effect, while one of the earlier
examples of redemption from evil acts, has certainly not been the last. Redemption
has always been a controversial topic, particularly if one s crimes are numerous
and/or horrific part of the reason the death penalty is so often debated in America
for its morality. But what people have really never agreed on is where the breaking
point is of what can be forgiven and
Historical Inaccuracies In Braveheart
In the film Braveheart , where a war breaks out between Scotland, which was under
English rule, and England is portrayed in a somewhat historical manner, in the time
periods of the late Middle Ages and the very Early Renaissance. The film by Mel
Gibson, may not be exactly a complete historical portrayal of what happened between
1297 and 1305 but it is pretty close. Undoubtable the events captured in this film have
helped shape what Scotlandis today, this is even more evident with the recent vote for
the separation of Scotland with England. It s also unarguable that the film gives a very
entertaining and exciting plot, through all scenes during this whole film. The film
depicts how an ordinary man at the end of the 13th Century, William Wallace

He wins a large amount of battles with the help of his army. Nonetheless, Wallace is
chased down and apprehended, dragged to London, tried for treason, and executed by
hanging, drawing and quartering, which at the time was the new technique for people
found guilty of treason.
Here are some of Hollywood s historical inaccuracies that go on in this film. At the
peak of the Middle Ages from around 1150 to 1350 became the time period where
medieval civilization took its more or less, compete form. William Wallace and
King Edward I were still in a largely underdeveloped part of the world. The Middle
Ages is often viewed as a period of darkness, superstition and ignorance. The poor
lived in poverty, their lives at the mercy to the whims of the nobles who ruled over
that land. The movie definitely showed this type of lifestyle and gave the viewer a
feeling of what life was like back then. This was also an era when the average man
was starting to demand his rights and defend them with arms. William Wallace is a
significant historical figure not because he was a high born commander of knights,
but because he was an ordinary Scotsman, a free farmer who rallied thousands of
other ordinary Scotsmen to fight for their country. (Film

Americans as naГЇve, superficial, emotional, and immature (Tanner 37). But in order

a lot of criticisms for partly being the reason of the loss of China he of course did not

overdue debate till today as well because of all the different views of Chiang and
China s civil war. This whole mess of who lost China who is the hero and who is the
enemy is the cause of all the different views and aspects of the leader Chiang Kai shek
himself and the outcome of the war. For the side of the Truman Administration
Chiang was an over ambitious leader who was too focused on kicking out the
Communists rather than focusing on what was more important, The Truman
administration had sent George Marshall to mediate between the Nationalists and
Communist Parties, while simultaneously sending generous amounts of economic

Blepharisma Americana Case Study
The objective of this experiment was to investigate the response of Blepharisma
americana, Paramecium caudatum, Euplotes, and Vorticella microorganisms to the
acidification of their environment and the impact of acidification on the their
community diversity. We hypothesized that lower pH values would cause Ciliophora
community diversities and health to decline.
Based on our collaborative data from BI107 lab sections (2016), compared to the
starting population, Blepharisma americana, Paramecium caudatum, Euplotes, and
Vorticella s average population size increased in pHconditions 7.0, 5.5, 4.5 and 3.5
(Figure 1). The reason for the ciliates to have a much higher average population size
compared to the starting population is because they had the opportunity to
reproduce for a week. All four ciliates had the lowest average populations at the pH
condition 3.5 and the average population sizes of Euplotes and P. caudatum
decreased as the pH levels decreased, implying that an acidic environment is not
beneficial for their survival (Figure 1). This supports our hypothesis that a decrease
in pH conditions leads to the decrease in average population size. Our results agree
with Tremaine and Mills s (1991) data, which suggests acidification decreased ...

We can also test the effect of acidification on plants that live in the ocean or lakes
such as seaweed or water lilies to expand our results and include the influences of
acidification on the aquatic plants. Conducting the study for a longer period of time
will provide more opportunities for ciliates to reproduce and allow us to observe the
long term effects of acidification on the ciliates population. Moreover, this would
allow us to determine if the ciliates can eventually adapt to overcome the effects of
acidification and
The Generation Of The Boomer Generation
Today, three generations work side by side in American businesses, each with their
own differing values. Managers need to recognize their unique characteristics and
plan accordingly.
The term Generation Gap entered our daily lexicon in the 1960s when members of
the Boomer generation were teenagers. It recognized the chasm that existed between
the Boomers and their parents in regard to their divergent political views, taste in
music, the clothes they wore, and professional goals:
Baby Boomers hoping for early retirement received a loud wake up call when the
economy receded around them. It looks like many will be on the job for years to
come in order to pay off their mortgaged lifestyles.
That doesn t bode well for Generation Xers, who have been positioning themselves
for further advancement in hopes of an exodus by those Boomers, who might seem
old and in the way rather than mentors of knowledge.
And young Generation Yers are left scrambling for whatever entry level jobs remain
in an ever shrinking and increasingly competitive American workplace.
The entire work environment has been sent spinning as three generations of workers
compete for fewer positions, all complicated by rapid advances in office and
communications technologies that are eagerly embraced by younger workers while
seemingly threatening to older ones. What s a manager to do? Yesterday s and Today

Exposing Our Children to Subliminal Messages
President Herbert Hoover once said that, Children are our most valuable resource.
Everybody knows the saying The children are our future. If everyone knows this
saying than why are parents exposing our future to inappropriate and explicit
content. This is because most people do not realize the explicit content their
children are being exposed to. The shows, movies, and even commercials children
are watching effect not only their actions and thought process but can also effect
the future decisions and choices they make. From the day we are born to the day
we die we have seen many different movies and seen many different TV shows;
while we are watching and hearing these through our own eyes and ears we do not
truly realize what our brains are consuming, because in reality we are viewing and
hearing much more than we can naturally see. Subliminal messages are prearranged
thoughts or ideas placed into the subconscious mind. Subliminal messages involve
reacting to stimuli that are above your physiological threshold but below your
perceptual thresholds. So basically your brain processes the messages without you
knowing. The two main types of subliminal messaging are auditory and visual. In
these two categories there are also subcategories. According to Anthony Pratkanis and
Anthony Greenwald, who are Psychology professors, have defined these four
different subcategories as: Subthreshold stimuli which are presented at energy levels
too weak to be detected by the audience.
The Social Roots Of Crime
Introduction Crime is one of the most important, yet least understood social
problems in society. The public s knowledge about crime is often based on a host of
myths and misperceptions. Crime is often treated as an individualistic phenomenon.
(Esposito, 2013) The social roots of crime are often ignored; this is why a
sociological approach to criminology is important. Crimeis an action/behavior that is
considered particularly harmful and thus formally banned by a criminal law.
Americans are either indifferent or in favor of capital punishment, although public
support for the death penalty has been declining (Esposito, 2013).Typical reasons
given by supporters of Capital punishment; provides closure for grieving families,
retribution and serves as a deterrent. Capital punishment is cost effective for
example tax payers should not have to pay for killers to live behind bars.
Possibilities for wrongful conviction has decreased. Jeffery Reiman is an American
philosopher who wrote the book titled The Rich Get Richer and the Poor Get Prison.
Jeffery Reiman argued that the criminal justice system was designed to fail. The
criminal justice system is a system whose purpose is ensures laws that prosecute
criminal offenders, upholds social control, deterrence and justify crime. Reiman
stated in his book that the criminal justice system criminalizes non violent offenses
such as drug use and prostitution, gives people prison sentences that are harsh and
demeaning, charges and
The Importance Of A Planning Practice At The Asian Region
Introduction
According to Abbot and Adler (467), the history identifies a set of opportunities that
must be a part of a planning practice, it should provide practical ways to define and
explore the actual institution and theoretical settings to balance the situation. This
statement takes me back in time while visiting the Asian Region such as the
Philippines during my childhood, it is probably one of the most wonderful
experiences I ever had. I would like to look back on the beauty of the Philippines
more than ten years ago, particularly the Banaue Rice Terracesin Cordillera.
Although this place is naturally beautiful and considered as the unofficial 8th
Wonders of the World according to the UNESCO World Heritage during 1995
(Brown, Brown Walder, 2006), but this place has gained little popularity. The place
needs restoration because of the constant rains and floods, there are also illegal
loggers that are cutting down the trees and ruining their resources. It is a sign that it
has not given significant importance or it is somehow neglected. According to
history, the native people choose to live on the mountain rather than be taken as
slaves by the Spanish tyrants during the war. Civilization and modernization have
come after the invasion, but they are able to preserve their culture, language, and
history when they choose to settle in this isolated place. According to Mandelbaum
(185 188), a sense of history is good for the profession because it builds solidarity and

submission or in order to receive protection. 2. Matriarchal: A matriarchal society is a
society governed by women. The Iroquios, five different native american nations
banded together by a man named Hiawatha, ruled through a matriarchal system.
Power was inherited through female lines of authority. These women had an
influence in local councils. It is unusual that these women played such a significant

the father s land was bestowed upon their eldest son. 5.Primogeniture: This was a

most of the younger children to join the poor. Very few people had the freedom to
do as they please. 6. Peasants: Farmworkers who lived in small villages
encompassed by fields farmed by different families working together. In 1550, most
Europeans were peasants. Peasants turned into serfs in an exchange between the
labor on the lord s estate and farming rights. 7. Republics: The method used by Italian

America s Expansion To The Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail is America s first Scenic Trail. It stretches from Katahdin
Mountain in Maine to Springer Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in
Georgia. This stretch of the trail includes some of the most difficult sections. Some
trails are suitable for day hikes or short backpacking hikes.
There are 22 different hiking trails within the state of Maine. The first six are
considered to be in eastern Maine and provide several days worth of hiking adventure
and natural wonders.
The trail is usually hiked south to north from Georgia to Maine between May and
September to avoid the brunt of the bad weather. There is also an unofficial
expansion to the Appalachian Trail, which starts from Canada, through Quebec and

Education Reform For The United States
Education in America started with the Pilgrims in the early 1600 s. The first public
school was opened in 1635 in Boston Massachusetts. In 1642, Massachusetts started
an education reform that stated Any child not properly educated would apprentice
to a trade . This education reform was created because they believed it was
important for children and citizens to be able to read the laws of the land. This was
the first law that required children to be education. If they were not properly educated
they would be moved from their home to a better fit environment where they would
be able to learn. Virginia then followed with a similar law in 1646. In 1647
Massachusetts founded an act called Old Deluder Satan Act . This act required
towns of more than fifty families to hire a teacher for reading and writing. Towns of
more than a hundred families had to establish a grammar schoolwhich served as
college preparation. Dame schools taught reading and writing to females because this
was all they were expected to learn so that they would not have the same intellect as
men. Their classes were held in the teacher s kitchen who continued her chores while
the students did their lessons. At the beginning of the 20th century, parents and public
schools began demanding more practical and useful curriculums. Growing up with
my mom as a teacher I know how much time they spend working and helping their
students learn and achieve so many things and how little they receive back in

Psychodynamic Perspective, Behavioral and Social
Cognitive...
Compare and contrast the various personality theories: Psychodynamic perspective,
Behavioral and Social Cognitive perspective, Humanistic perspective, and Trait
perspective) and discuss which perspective you think is most applicable. Support
your argument (based on what you learned, examples, etc).
Psychodynamic Perspectives view personality as being primarily unconscious and as
developing in stages. Psychodynamic theorists believe that behavior is merely a
surface characteristic and that to truly understand someone s personality we have to
explore the symbolic meanings of behavior and the deep inner workings of the mind.
These ideas were sketched by the architect of psychoanalytic theory Sigmund Freud.

Because behaviorist believe that personality is learned and often changes depending
on experiences and situations, it follows that, by rearranging experiences and
situations, the individual s personality can be changed.
Social Cognitive perspective states that behavior, environment and cognitive factors,
such as thoughts, memories, and expectations, are important in understanding
personality. Like the behavioral approach of Skinner, the social cognitive view relies
on empirical research in studying personality. But this research has focused not just
on observable behavior but also on the cognitive factors that influence what we are
like as people. Alber Bandura and Walter Mischel are the main architects of social
cognitive theory.
Humanistic perspective Stresses that a person s capacity for personal growth,
freedom to choose one s own destiny, and positive human qualities. Humanistic
psychologists believe that each of us has the ability to cope with stress, to control
our lives, and to achieve what we desire. Each of us has the ability to break through
and understand ourselves and our world; we can burst the cocoon and become a
butterfly, say the humanists.
Trait perspective States that personality consists of broad, enduring dispositions that

Canadian Magazine Analysis
The Canadian Magazine Dispute
Word Count: 940
Today, 89% of Canadian magazine content is foreign, and the majority of that foreign
content is American (SUNY LEVIN Institute). Since the 1920 s, the Canadian
government has taken measures to protect Canadian culture and their magazine
industry. Starting first with tariffs in the 20 s, they eventually moved to prohibition
of split run editions of magazines that were published external to the country in 1965
(SUNY LEVIN Institute). Globalization has exasperated the foreign takeover of the
Canadian magazine industry. Before 1999, a magazine was defined as domestic if it
was printed in Canada. What this meant, was that publications written in other
countries could send their content to a Canadian ... Show more content on

By protecting this small percentage of sales, Canada can guarantee some jobs for
Canadian writers. These writers will write content with a perspective unique to the
culture of their country, in turn promoting and protecting the Canadian culture
through their voices being heard in the media. The government subsidizing these
Canadian magazines helps ensure that these jobs are kept safe. Personally, I think that
this is more important for the economy than for Canadian culture, though I have
many friends who disagree with me on this, and who actively seek out Canadian over
American content in all media.
Canadians should absolutely be able to buy and support whatever magazines they
prefer. I do not believe that a government should be able to censor what people are
exposed to in any way. Contrarily, I also do not think it is unfair for the government
to levy extra taxes on foreign publications. These taxes are always passed down to
the purchaser. Most foreign magazines cost double domestic magazines in Canada.
The money from these taxes pours back into our economy, so from an economic
standpoint, I do not mind paying them if and when I choose to read foreign
Spirited Away Religion
Andrew Proskin Religions 101 001 Extra Credit 3 12/8/16 Spirited Away This is a
movie by the Japanese producer Hayao Miyazaki. He has written and produced
many movies that portray religion in some way. The one I chose to focus on is
called Spirited away. In the movie, the Main character is a small girl named
Chihiro. The little girl ends up getting lost into a spirit world. When she goes into
the spirit world her name gets taken from her and she begins a journey to get back
her name and get to her parents. At the end of the movie she does get bac to her
parents but she isn t the same she is more mature. This movie seems to have some
ties to Shinto religions. Shinto is a religion that thinks that everything is
interconnected or interdependent. To experience the goodness someone must have
a pure heart (korko). When people stray away from it they are considered polluted.
The bath house in the movie may be seen as symbolism for getting purification
back to korko after you have been polluted. In the movie Chihiro actually enounters
a spirit in need of cleansing. It is symbolized as a dirty river type monster and is

Shinto has set conceptions of good and evil. The character no face in the movie is

spirit. The evilness of No face at this point comes from the workers of the
bathhouse. The workers greed is what leads to the evil showing of no face. The

My Out-Of-Class Negotiation At Macy s Department Store
The topic for my out of class negotiation was to get a good deal when purchasing
business jacket from Macy s department store. In this paper, I will examine my
preparation process for negotiation, applied concession strategy along with
implemented personal bargaining style. Finally, I will evaluate my the knowledge
gained and my personal communication competence measure to improve my
negotiation and communication effectiveness for any situations that may arise in the
future. Insights are drawn from three sources: my own experience, the online search,
and the course book Bargainingfor Advantage.
When entering the store, I wanted to appear reasonable, following along
consistency principle, so I can get a normative leverage in this negotiation. Before
jumping in any bargaining, I ve decided to do my homework and gathered some data
about Macy s, it s policies and sales they were having at that time. In order to get
the best deal, I had to know the standards and norms such as quality , quantity ,
applicable discounts that carry weight in negotiations and would seem legitimate to
another party. This analysis would give me a speaking role and fair basis on which I

In the beginning, I opened optimistically, then showed a willingness to cooperate
and made a series of smaller concessions in the end. Even though this negotiation

used flexibility on the quantity of purchase, which allowed be to bring the price

she included 2 more items. However, I was very firm with my tactics in my

Factors And Positive Impacts Of Calcium Hydroxide
Calcium Hydroxide
Calcium Hydroxide, or simply known as hydrated lime serves many functions like
reducing the acidity in soil or lakes, an additive in cement, a raw material for mortar,
cleaning agents.
Controlling the pH of soil pH is a measure of how acidic or alkali a substance is.
The acidity or alkalinity of soil is important because it influences how successfully
plants take up nutrients from the soil. Nutrients are essential for the growth of the
plants. The pH range from 6.0 to 7.5 is considered to be most suitable for nutrients to
dissolve (Rodale Inc., n.d.). Absorption of nutrients by the plant may not be possible
if the soil solution the mixture of nutrients in the soil and water, is too acid or alkaline.
The effects of poor development and fruiting from crops may be exhibited if the soil is

Hydrated lime is not a hazardous substance to human beings or to the environment. It
is also significantly inexpensive than Sodium hydroxide that is why it is commonly
used. However, it is more difficult to handle.
Negative Impacts
Using too much of the calcium hydroxide will make the soil too alkaline, then it may
not be the best level of pH for plants to grow in. It has been shown from the
Singapore gardening society that most nutrient disorder in plants grown in soils with
more than 20% of hydrated lime is chlorosis because of the bicarbonate
concentration (Singapore Garden Society, 2009). Limestone is a non renewable
source as there is only a finite amount on earth but as liming has already been done
for many years in many countries around the world. Lime is a semi liquid mixture,
meaning that it will rapidly separate from the solution. Continuous agitating and
chemical delivery lines must be kept in motion inside the storage tank otherwise the
lime will separate from the
Time Management Style Analysis
Overview of Time Management
Personal Anecdote
The act of time management has been a struggle throughout my life because I haven t
always had a conscious choice in my actions. This inability to manage my time
effectively is explained through my diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a disorder that comprises a constellation of symptoms
including inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. (Davidson, 2007, p. 628) The
way the brain functions for someone with ADHD affects the perception of time,
planning, organisation, working memory, self regulation, self efficacy, among others

A research study focused on using mental contrasting with implementation intentions
(MCII) was successful for time management in effective goal pursuit and behaviour
changes (Oettingen, Kappes, Guttenberg, Gollwitzer, 2015). Previous studies focus
on teaching skills relevant to time management while this method changes the way
you think and believe, thus altering your behaviour which is more sustainable to
improving time management competencies (Oettingen et al., 2015). MCII uses the
format of if then plans such as If... (obstacle), then I will... (respond to overcome or

Doubloons which are aluminum coin like objects bearing the Krewe s insignia on
one side and the parades theme on the reverse. You can see the sparkling of the
coins in the air and there s that all too familiar quot;ding ding quot; sound when they
hit the street. You can see the crowd bending over to look for them on the ground.
Little toys and stuffed animals are some of the many little trinkets thrown about. Of
course there is always some one waving around colorful underwear to give out to the
deserving fan.
For someone new to Mardi Gras, you must first simply relax and have fun. It is a
time for families to bring the kids out for some fun and celebration. The local
Newspaper will have listings of the daily parades. For the younger kids, going to
any of the Day Time parades is best. The streets are packed w/ cleverly costumed
paraders, marching bands, music, and thousands of people. It s good to get there
early to grab a spot to set up since the good spots tend to disappear quickly. Waiting
for the parade to make it to your area can be tedious, so brink some food and chairs.
Sun block would be a good idea as well, it may be sunny out there. When the floats
arrive they will be tossing hundreds of beads, cups, doubloons, and little toys
overboard into the streets. Since there are so many people in the crowd, you should
try to get the quot;Krewe s quot; attention. Many
Friendship Problems With Children With ADHD
In class, we discussed many of the symptoms associated with ADHD and how these
symptoms contribute to academic problems, peer and family difficulties and
aggression. Individuals with ADHD struggle to sustain attention, focus and complete
complex tasks, speech fluently, internalize private speech and regulate their emotions.
All of these issues likely contribute to the friendshipproblems identified in the current
study. For instance, the study found that children with ADHD have shorter
friendships than the comparison group of children and this could be related to their
difficulty sustaining attention and regulating their emotions. Other children might
find it difficult to maintain friendships with children with ADHD because that cannot
focus as long on the activities that they want to do. In other words, a child with
ADHD might tire of a game after a few minutes and want to do something else but
their friend might want to finish the game first to see who wins. This attention deficit
might make the friend weary of staying in this relationship because they do not
understand. Additionally, a child with ADHD may not understand their friend s
social cues and they may get easily agitated or upset when things do not go their
way. As a child, the friend is not looking to maintain a difficult friendship which
could account for decreased longevity of friendships in children with ADHD,
especially in the currently studied age range.
Additionally in class, we discussed some of the
Photosynthesis and Respiration
All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to
make sugar and other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example,
plants and other photo synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide
from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesisis the most
important chemical process on earth because it provides food for virtually all
organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Plants
can capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis. This
chemical reaction can be described by the following simple equation:
6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2
The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on

The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the
day when light is present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and
greatly reducing water loss. Plants convert the energy from light into simple sugars,
such as glucose. This food may be converted back to water and carbon dioxide,
releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy is
required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other
sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots
for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex
structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent
on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in intensity
photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops,
such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut
drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse
tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. Water
plays an important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it maintains a plant s
turgor or the firmness or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be
compared to air in an inflated balloon. Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant
cells to maintain shape and ensure
Hegemonic Masculinity
Hegemonic masculinity is a social construction which suggests to society that men
must be stronger than the feminine of the species in every way. By definition,
hegemonic masculinity is the dominance of men over women, where men must
sustain this dominance in any way. Defining what the hegemonic masculine ideal is
in Canada is difficult as we are a very young, multicultural country, so the notion of
the ideal manis a warped characterization of the ideal American male. This paper
seeks to prove that hegemonic masculinityis a social construction which is detrimental
to society. The negative effects of hegemonic masculinity on men include; male
violence, misogyny, and homophobia which are inextricably linked to how we define
manhood as a culture.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giving up the idea of boy will be boys, especially in the case of violence is key to
resolving some of the issues. That is, when two boys are hitting each other this is
a violent act, and they should be taught that it is not the answer. As well,
associating boys with words such as power, dominance, aggression and guns,
should be changed because it will have boys feel as though they have to be a
certain way to be a real man and that includes aggressive behaviours. Another
solution to ending violence in masculinity would be to stop comparing it to
femininity. As the narrator in Tough Guise 2 reiterated, if a man gives the
appearance of being kind and gentle he should not be referred to as a pussy or a fag

After reading the short story, Because My Father Always Said He Was the Only
Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock by
Sherman Alexie, Alexie follows all six elements such as ideas, organization, voice,
word choice, fluidity in sentences and last but not least, conversation. When
looking at the Ideas of the short piece and how it was created, one of the most
noticeable things is the revealing of the plot. Just by looking at the title you have an
idea that the short piece will be about the relationship between the father and with
Jimi Hendrix. Alexie reveals in the information in a chronological order as well as
use bigger details that later explain the smaller details that were in the short piece.

Alexie draws in the reader by first telling a short story about her father back in the
1970 s. Alexie then goes on in briefly telling the reader what prison was like for
their father. Eventually moving on to how the father met the mother and the
relationship they father and mother had. This is an interesting take on the way a
child views their father and mother and how the father has craved freedom. The
fluidity of this short piece is excellent, it is not choppy and it gives just enough
detail without dragging the story out. It also helps that this piece is an easy read.
One of the things that I enjoyed from the piece was the comparison to how Indians
would live compared to different races mentioned in the piece. I though it gave the
Victor the narrator some personality. Victor also does a lovely job on creating the
images of what his parents and their relationship, as well as his love for his father.
The analogy of Jimi Hendrix and freedom for the freedom was easy to pick up on,
especially for when the father had bought himself a motorcycle and found the
freedom he craved (something Jimi Hendrix heavily
Portrait of Blood The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William...
What does one think when the word blood is said? Death? Betrayal? Sadness?
Blood is a prime example of imagery. Imagery paints a picture within the readers
minds and puts them in the same situation that the sentence is portraying. Having
imagery in a work, makes a reader more into the piece and involved. In The Tragedy
of Julius Caesarby William Shakespeare, blood is a device most often symbolizing
betrayal by the conspirators, the death of Julius Caesar, and foreshadowing the
upcoming events through Mark Antonys eyes.
Julius Caesar s death came about by the betrayal of the conspirators. Brutus was
one of Caesar s closest friends, but his dagger was the last to break through Caesar
s cloak. The commoners and Antony were shocked to see the whole scene as the
conspirators stream forth thy blood from Caesar. (III, i, 201) This image allows
the reader to really visualize how Caesar actually died in the hands of the other
conspirators. Mark Antony felt betrayed by not just Brutus, but all of the
conspirators. He was devastated, but managed to stay dignified by shaking the
bloody fingers of thy foes . (III, i, 198) The image of blood on each of the hands of
the conspirators resulted in Caesar dying by betrayal. Blood and betrayal make the
reader think that it would lead Mark Antony s actions to reflect those of the
conspirators, but he perseveres and just asks for one chance to speak at Julius
funeral. Betrayal by one person can lead to the leadership of another.

established since June 2, 2000 when then sitting President Bill Clinton declared it as
such. President Trump has made no such declarations since he has been in office
signifying this month as one to honor the gay, lesbian and transgender lifestyles.
However, since the tradition is in place, many cities throughout the country are still
honoring the month of June as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Pride
Month. To celebrate a host of them put on Pride Parades where various
organizations representing the LGBT communities march together. Due to the
large crowds these parades bring and the need to block streets, police presence is a

The essence of the American dream stems from freedom. Before this nation was even

Sidney Bechet s Major Accomplishments
Sidney Bechet was one of many fantastic up and coming jazz musicians in the
Roaring Twenties. He started on the clarinet, but eventually became one of the first
performers to adopt the soprano saxophone as a main instrument, as well as one of
the first to improvise with the swing style of jazz. In addition, he was one of the
first artists to record using a multitrack which was a way of recording where you
would play back the track from one instrument while you recorded with another
instrument and continued this process until you had all of the instruments you
wanted. These strides helped Bechet stand out from other musicians as he
progressed through his career. Bechet grew up in a musical household and toured
with popular bands from a young age. His father and four brothers all played

work include vibrato and 12 14 bar blues melodies. He was also known for his
improvisation, solos like those of Louis Armstrong, and especially for conveying
intense emotion through his music. Duke Ellington, a fellow jazz musician, once
described Bechet as The very epitome of jazz, everything he played in his entire
life was completely original. I honestly think he was the most unique man ever to be

Inequality In The Two-State Solution
Israeli and Palestinian Solutions:
For centuries nations have effortly tried to gain peace between Israel and Palestine,
but it has proven to be an impossible task. The problem isn t only in the current
political situation and relations between the countries, with every new born
generation it flames it s distant past. There are two groups are fighting for the same
small territory, with both having deep ties to the land. The states both having
reasonable argument, of historical and religious background, and within confines, two
nationally distinct groups, who are divided by language, culture, and history, cannot

The UN and many international countries recognize the borders as the 1967
borders set by the International countries as a means to ended the Palestinian

Maryland. Both nation claims are valid and refer to historic and religious context.
Jewish claim is based upon the promise to Abraham and his descendants, that the land
was the site of the Jewish kingdom of Israel, destroyed by the Roman Empire, and
the need for a safe haven from European anti Semitism. Palestinian claims of the
land is based on their residency of this country for decades and that they
represented the majority of the people, rejecting the biblical era kingdom for a
modern day claim. If Palestinians agree to the biblical claim, they state that since
Abraham s son Ishmael was the forefather of Arabs, then God s promise of the land
to the children of Abraham includes Arabs as well. They do not believe that they
should give up their home land to compensate for European crimes against the
people of Israel. In the two state solution it would create a Palestinian state made

the government of Israel is cheating them because lack of effort to the growth of

The Concept Of Incentives And The Way Of Which
Humans...
Sandel next adresses the concept of incentives and the way in which humans
respond to them. Individuals act in order to maximize their own welfare and
therefore respond things that allow them to do so; these things are known as
incentives. Sandel provides us with the example of students who where offered
financial incentive to do better in school. However the reaction to the incentives
differed from the standard economic model. While paying students who passed AP
exams did increase over all success, the results indicated that the amount of money
payed made no difference in the amount of achievement. While the did serve its
purpose as an incentive, the money did not act as a bribe but rather as an agent
that changed the stigma associated with AP testing making it cool for students to
do. While there do exist benefits to offering incentives, there also exists
ramification known as perverse incentives. The notion of perverse incentives deals
with the idea that by placing a market price on a certain act, the meaning of the act
itself may become blurred. Sandel offers the example of fine Vs. fees where
parents would come late to pick up their children from day care and treat the fine
for coming late as a fee for extended service. By placing a market value on the
extended time care takers had to work, parents no longer felt guilty about leaving
their child later till later hours and therefore eroding the original purpose of the fine.
At this point Sandel moves to the

Literature dates back all the way to 5th century AD overtime Literary works have
been develop such as novel, poems, and short stories. Short Stories are described has
miniature versions of books or novels, where an author takes a tale and crams it into
a ten to twenty page story. John Steinbeck is not only a well known novelist, but also
writes short stories like The Chrysanthemums and Flight . In Steinbeck s The
Chrysthemums Elisa Allen is married to a negligent ranch owner. While her husband
works on the ranch, Elisa tends to her chrysanthemum garden daily. One day while
tending to her garden, a charming tinker man pulls up to her in his wagon and tries to

The cattle on the higher slopes were becoming shaggy and rough coated (p.3).
Creating a descriptive image of what the Allen s farm is like and even giving off
some of the five senses while reading those few sentences. Steinbeck in Flight
creates the setting for the Torress home, describing how The little shack, the
rattling, rotting barn were gray bitten with sea salt, beaten by the damp wind until
they had taken on the color of the granite hills (p.1). He gives the reader a live
image of the weather, the families home, and the nature setting of the story. He uses
great detail in creating the setting in each of these stories because it sets the tone
and atmosphere for each of them. Steinbeck uses his setting to set the theme and
tone in his short stories, making the element crucial in each story. In both Flight and
The Chrysanthemums, PepГ© and Elisa struggle with their identity and who they
are. PepГ© is nineteen with a dead father, a mother, and two younger siblings. He
wants his right to manhood but his mother wants to keep him under wing. This is
where the two have conflict, his mother constantly makes him feel like a child and
PepГ© just wants to show himself and his family that he is ready to be a man.
Steinbeck shows this by writing how Mama thought him fine and brave, but she
never told him so. She said, Some lazy cow must have got into thy father s family,

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Club Dumas
The Club Dumas, by Arturo PГ©rez Reverte, is about a devious and cunning book
dealer, Lucas Corso. Soon after meaning with Boris Balkan, another book dealer,
to authenticate a draft of The Three Musketeers, Corso is hired by Varo Borja.
Borja, a rich man, who is a collector of many books, hires him to authenticate a
copy of Nine Doors of the Kingdom of Shadows, a book which supposedly contains
instructions for summoning the Devil. After the author was burned alive, there are
only three copies of the book left in the world, but only one is a true original. In the
time following, Corso is taking on a long, winding journey filled with devious
woman, and crazed old men, to authentic the book for Borja, as well as the Dumas
manuscript for himself.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This technique primarily shown in the first portion of the book, told by Boris
Balkan, who at the time is appeared to be friendly with Corso, but reveals much
about his personality via foreshadowing. On page 6, Balkan is talking to Corso
about the authenticity of the Dumas draft he brought in, when Corso began to
smile, In time, I found, he could also smile like a cruel, hungry wolf... (6). Later,
while talking about Corsos love for reading at a tender age, Balkan says Although
it was highly unlikely that Corso s childhood ever merited the term tender (9).
Soon thereafter, Balkan was telling the reader how Corso was described by a close
friend, Precise, unscrupulous, and deadly as a black mamba (12). Majority of the
foreshadowing comes within the first couple dozen of pages, all mainly about how
Corso is a bad person in someway, which is best illustrated on 16, when Balkan
states But the positive feeling was quickly dispelled, as when you touch your pocket
and realize that your wallet has just been stolen (16). All of these foreshadows set up
for an intriguing mystery, where Corso s fox like cunning and deception are used
often, though he sometimes gets beat at his own
Ender s Game Argumentative Essay
Last summer, when I was a rising freshman, I made a grave mistake. I had relaxed
all summer, and I was somewhat mentally prepared to start school. However, I still
had one task left to complete: read the summer reading book. Ender s Game by
Orson Scott Card. This is a fantastic story I had read it in sixth grade and I adored
it. Despite my affection for the novel, I was tentative to read it again after all, why
should I why waste my precious time repeating a task I had already completed?
However, by the time August rolled around, I came to the inevitable realization that I
barely remembered the plot. Even though I knew I needed to crack it open, I put off
re readingthe story for as long as I could. I ended up finally dusting off my copy on...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, that leaves an important question to be answered: how can you stop
procrastinating? The first thing I would recommend doing is buying the book or
checking the story you must read out from the library. If you wait all summer to
complete the reading assignment, you might find that your local bookstore is
completely sold out of the novel you need. Or, when you finally get around to
stepping into the library, the waiting list for the copy of Legend by Marie Lu that
you need by next week is twenty people long. If you read the book earlier in the
summer, you won t feel nearly as rushed to find a copy of the novel and finish it as
quickly as possible, which gives you much more time to relax. Another tip for not
procrastinating comes from the University of Alabama, there are three primary
considerations in creating your study environment: Your most effective and efficient
learning style, the nature of the learning task, and the availability of learning
resources. With that being said, the first thing you need to take into consideration
is your personal learning style. You might have an easier time reading the book if
you determine how you learn in advance and create a better reading environment
for you to study in. If you are an auditory learner, determine whether you learn
better with or without background noise, and place yourself within a suitable
environment when preparing to read. If you are a visual learner, be sure to read in
a place with adequate lighting and minimal distractions (like highways and other
busy roads). If you are a tactile learner, be sure to find a suitable place to sit and
read a workspace that is not too comfortable (so you don t fall asleep) but not
unbearable. When determining the nature of the task, it is important to know that
you have no say in what you must read; the nature of your learning is
Indians Vs Colonists
The biggest problem Indians and colonists had were the different points of view they
had of each other. In the compilation of primary documents written by European
colonists and Native Americans (National Humanities Center), we can find several
different quotations of the many different positive and negative viewpoints Indians
and colonists had of on another. Indians were simply people living on this earth as
well as the colonist, obviously due to background and culture, they had their
differences but it all comes down to the kind of person you are and what can you
provide to humanity.
The colonists came from a total different culture compared to the Indians. They had
different ways of living, different foods and clothing. For a settler to
Comparison Of Euripides Antigone And Lysistrata
Fascinatingly, two dramas can be so diverse all because of one aspect they both
contain but differ in. Written during the 5th century in ancient Athens. Antigone and
Lysistrata both are two important, popular plays that contain a main character that
was female. Although they can both be seen as very similar, they do differ in many
ways. The most important difference between Antigone and Lysistrata is that
Antigone has a community that does not approve of the main characters plans and
although they feel sympathy for her, they take the opposing side, while Lysistrata
has a society of people that come together to help the main character achieve her
goal. This difference is important because the community s actions play a tremendous
role in the overall outcome of the play and the way the original viewers, who were
only men, felt when the play finished. The conclusions and the feelings brought forth
by the dramaindicate the style it was written in, tragedyor comedy. An ending with a
death, leaving an audience feeling sorry creates a tragedy, as an accomplishment from
something completely unrealistic would create a comedy. Antigone s community
does not involve themselves with her decisions which leaves her to fight by herself.
Furthermore, this influences her tragic fate and leads the male Athenians watching to
feel sorry for Antigone but unresponsive of her personal choices. In Lysistrata, the
community joins Lysistrata and accomplishes to stop a war that was going on during
San Diego Wildfires
San Diego Wildfires: Smoke and Ash Debris a Public Health Concern
San Diego Wildfires
The county of San Diego is a unique haven to hundreds of state and federally
recognized endangered, threatened, or rare plant and animal species (The Nature
Conservancy, n.d.). San Diego is also a territory with a long history of
environmentally catastrophic wildfires. The Cedar and Witch Creek Fires are two
of the most recent and notorious wildfires in California history for their degree of
damage in terms of acreage burned and overall expense (The City of San Diego, n.d.).
During and after these massive wildfire events is a significant public health concern
related to respiratory health from the effects of smoke and ash debris. The challenges
presented in mitigating and managing these health issues extends into county budget,
public education, and cohesive multi agency prevention and recovery efforts.
Moreover, participatory efforts from the residents of San Diego County is key to the
success of mitigating health risks presented by wildfire smoke and ash debris
(Phillips, 2009, p. 420).
Background
The Cedar Fire (2003) was one of the largest and deadliest wildland fires in
California history burning nearly 300,000 acres in San Diego County and killing 15,
including 1 firefighter. A lost hiker accidently set this fire from survival methods
attempted with a flare. It resulted in evacuations of thousands of San Diego residents
and destroyed approximately 2400 homes (CALFIRE, 2016). The
The Complex Communication of Gibbons Essay
This article discusses the form of communication that Gibbon monkeys use amongst
their species. The argument that appears to be present throughout this article is that
Gibbons are not only able to communicate with each other, but also that their
communication system shares certain features with the human language system.
Although I agree that this species communicationsystem shares particular design
features with the human language, the definition of language attests that this type of
communication is not considered a language.
The first of the five core design features discussed throughout this paper is
semanticity. Semanticity is defined as specific sound signals that are directly tied to
certain meanings (Bauer, 2006, pp. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, I would argue the part of this design feature that deems this species
communication as a definite, closed system. For instance, researchers describe Gibbon
songs as including varying pitches that they use to combine up to seven notes to
create more complex structures or phrases ( Singing for Survival, 2006). In the human
language system, the meaning of symbols and/or signals vary depending on certain
contexts and situations. It appears that Gibbons have some capability to change their
songs based on different situations they are engaging in such mating, warnings, etc.
Therefore, I ve concluded that these abilities demonstrate a certain amount of
productivity. However, this species does not the competency to use an unlimited
amount of utterances, which would essentially eliminate them from fully having this
design feature in their communication system.
Displacement is a design feature of language that we as humans are able to use to
reference the past, future, and the hypothetical. It refers to the human language
system s ability to communicate about things that are not present spatially,
temporally, and/or realistically. According to Language Matters , displacement is
defined as the ability to talk about events remote in time and place (Bauer, 2006, pp.
49 57). Although
Global Chocolate Shortage Essay
Global chocolate shortages coming, what will need to be done about alternatives and
economic effects?
The situation of global chocolate always causes wide attention since 2007. As
could be seen in figure 1 and 2, it seems that the situation of chocolate shortages is
a recent problem. The peak of this trend showed in November 2014. According to
Walters (2015, p.4), chocolate shortage is happened all over the world. It is
believed that this situation might get worse by chocolate makers. It was predicted
that the deficit of chocolate could attain more than a million tons in 2020. The
shortages of global chocolate could causes lager effects in many fields such as
social, economic and food industrial field because chocolate is a very popular food
or raw material. In this report, some results would be enumerated and compared by
the empirical evidences to discuss what would need to be done for facing global
chocolate shortages. The discussion consisted by factors of reasons, the economic
effects and some alternatives of chocolate.
Firstly, the major reasons of global chocolate shortages are cocoa shortages and over
consumption. It has a close relationship between them that cocoa bean is a basis of
chocolate. Climate changes and pestilence in Africa which is a chief producer, was
culprit. It needs about two to five years to get new cacao tress to produce new cocoa
beans. It even needs to take 10 years to reveal traits worth preserving (Harris 2014).
Walters (2015, p.4) also holds
Farewell To Arms
Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell to Arms is a classic novel that contains multiple
accounts of symbolism. He uses the iceberg theory in his writing. Beneath the
surface of his writing, he shows, but he does not tell. Hemingway doesn t explicitly
describe the meaning behind his words. He forces the reader to perceive the deeper
meanings within the story. In the book, there is symbolic meaning of the rain,
Catherine Barkley s long hair, Frederick Henry s beard, nighttime, food, and alcohol.
The use of Hemingway s symbols in A Farewell to Armshas more meaning than what
meets the eye. In A Farewell to Arms, rain is a recurring symbol of death. Rain in
this book can be interpreted in other ways, too. Misery, despair, tragedy, destruction,
and sadness are additional denotations of the rain in the story. The presence of the
rain shows that no matter how hard Henry tries to escape death, he can never outrun
it. The rain is a potent symbol of the inevitable disintegration of happiness in life.

With a war raging around them, they manage to secure a blissful seclusion,
believing themselves protected by something as delicate as hair. Catherine s long
hair symbolizes her and Henry s temporary insulation from the world. Hair on the
head isn t the only type that provides symbolism in this story. Later, Catherine
suggests that Frederick grows his hair longer and let his beard grow, as well
suggested the idea of hiding from the world. She tells Henry, No, let it grow a little
longer and I could cut mine and we d be just alike only one of us blonde and one of
us dark. When Henry and Catherine are living an isolated life in Switzerland, Henry
s beard grows longer, an implied layer of defense. They find temporary solace from
the things that plague
Caesar Augustus Contributions
History is made up of individuals who were just living the life they wanted to live.
Their actions ended up making an impact on our world as we know it. At the time
they probably had no clue that the actions they put forth in their time would
eventually lead up to the world we know today. Their life events may not have been
grand, but they were enough to make an impact. Caesar Augustusis one example of a
person in history who led a successful life.
Born Gaius Octavius on September 23, 63 B.C., in Velletri, Italy. Augustus was a
sickly child with few connections. Although, one connection he did have was being
the great nephew of Julius Caesar. Augustus was known by three different names
throughout his life. From birth to 44 B.C. he was known as Octavius, in 44 B.C.
he was adopted and changed his name to Octavian and in 26 B.C. the Roman
Senate conferred on him the name Augustus. His father was a senator and governor
in the Roman Republic and passed away when Augustus was four years old; his
mother Atai was Caesar s niece. In his younger years his grandmother Julia Ceasaris
helped raise him; she was the sister of Julius Caesar.
Augustus donned the toga, the Roman sign of manhood, at age 16, and began
taking on responsibilities through his family connections. At the time Rome was
dangerous and engulfed in a civil war, one faction of the war was led by his great
uncle Caesar. He started on his path of responsibilities by leaving for Hispania to
fight alongside his
Snow Goose Overpopulation Essay
The Overpopulation of the Snow Goose in North America
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore available research on the overpopulation of the
Snow Goose on the North American continent. The snow goose has been rising in
population since the middle of the century and has been escalating so much it is
destroying their natural habitat. Wildlife managers have just recently begun to
implement strategies to combat this problem. Mainly through the use of hunters the
managers are trying to curb the population growth.

There are three main species of Snow Goose of primary concern. The Lesser Snow
Goose (LSGO) is the must abundant and at the same time most troublesome. ... Show

The population of Greater Snow Goose has reached 612,000 from around 50,000 in
the mid 1960 s. Ross Goose has increased from 8,000 in 1957 to nearly 500,000 in
1995 (Abraham and Jeffries). The Texas Department of Fish and Wildlife states that
the population of wintering snow geese has remained constant. They imply this is
due to the fact that the geese have spread their winter range into other states (TWDS
1999). As indicated earlier it is very hard to count wintering birds because such a

Factors contributing to High Population
The snow goose problem is a wildlife manager s nightmare. Through prudent
restrictions on birds taken as game, and the increase in refuges coupled with
excellent habitat in the birds entire range. It is estimated that there is nearly
900,000 ha of rice fields over the snow goose s winter range (Abraham and Jeffries
1998). This is in addition to the typical salt marsh wintering ground. Abraham and
Jeffries suggest that farther to the North in states like Nebraska and North Dakota
the conversion of grassland prairie into cereal grains has provided a tremendous
amount of food for the geese. In addition it has also blurred the area typically
considered the wintering range. It may also

Gun Control Laws in the United States
In the space separating 1982 and 2012 the U.S. had approximately sixty two mass
shootings. Just because of this statement gun control should be fortified in order to
reduce crime rate. Gun control laws in the U.S. are too facile. An example of this is
that you can walk into a Walmart with money and an I.D. and walk out with a
handgun. There are restrictions to gun ownership but they are not enforced. Usually
the opposing crowd who do not want to bolster gun control use the Second
Amendment as an excuse to not agree with the idea that emphasizing gun control will
help the U.S. in many ways. Gun control in the U.S. should and needs to be ... Show

In December 14, 2012 a devastating shooting out broke in Sandy Hook Elementary
School in Newtown. This event awakened lawmakers, which started working hard
in the direction of more security. In 1971 congress passed the second amendment
which stated that a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free
state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. In the
year 2016 this statement is generally, very debatable. One side of the party
altercates that owning guns is a right that everyone should have because it is the
same as the same as the plain right as self defense. The other party says that back
when the second amendment was written the plan was of making a standing army.
But now that the U.S. has a strong army and police force the amendment is
obsolete. In 1968 the Gun Control Act was passed. This act let federal, state, and
local law enforcement raise authority in controlling gun control in attempt to reduce
crime. The act also said that it is illegal to market or supply firearms or ammunition
to any individual who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe is less
than eighteen years of age . In 1993 another act that was passed was the Brady
Handgun Violence Prevention Act which required the purchaser of a firearmto
complete a background check. Section 922 in the U.S. Code restricts categories of
people from freighting, accepting, or owning firearms or ammunition. In 1994
The core function of Human Resource Department
Planning: the core function of Human Resource Department Page пїЅ PAGE пїЅ1пїЅ
ABSTRACT Human Resource planning is a process of identifying current and future
human resources needs for an organization to achieve its goals and strategic
objective. It involves, but not limited to forecasting an organization s future demand
and supply for different types of employees directly linked to its business needs.
Implementation of gap analysis between future HR supply and future demand is
taking place first. Strategies are then developed in order to minimize the gaps and
may involve recruitment, internal staffing, development and training, and activities
relating to rightsizing. Forecasting future needs implies proper understanding of the
future... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basic questions that HR planners should answer are the following: What are the
jobs needed to be filled during the coming period of time? and How and where we
are going to get people from to fill those jobs? What are the jobs needed to be
filled? Answering the demand question requires prediction: who will leave jobs
and create vacancies, which jobs will be eliminated, and which new jobs will be
created. One of the methods for predicting the vacancies and increasing number of
jobs is to project historical statistics into the future, the so called Statistical
Techniques. This is applicable for organizations with a long history in the market and
a clear understanding of their business, which can easily predict the demand for their
products or services (production volume, level of sales, number of contracts, etc.).
Behavioral theories of the causes of turnover (Richard Mowday, Lyman Porter, and
Richard Steers The psychology of commitment, absenteeism, and turnover 1982)
accompanied with conducting employee surveys particularly designed to assess
basic predictors of turnover (such as job satisfaction), in addition to the support of
human resource planners can give enough information to predict how many filled
positions can possibly become vacant. This information is more accurate and can be
useful mostly when a single organizational department has a large number of
employees. Nevertheless, on practice it is less precise when making predictions

All people are deserving of quality health care, unconditional love and mutual respect. Human rights are at the heart of women s issues, whether you are a woman, man or child, everyone, is entitled to basic human rights as individuals. As a marginalized section of the population, women should be interested in the elimination of patriarchal ideologies and systems that continually seep into middle America. Interconnection is key to global success. In the excitement of it all, let us not lose sight of the goal. There is always the exception as in Abina. Abina is sent to live with Quamina Eddoo s sister, Eccoah, who, to an extent, was also a part of the slave trade. Eccoah took on the role of master so she would not be but allowed to rule over others. Individual ethics and commitments as stated in the charter are basic human rights that all people should aspire to. Although, Albina is devastated when told the verdict, she secured a huge victory for all women! She set in motion a new precedent within the courts. A precedent that would consider accepting women as an agency, women as self sufficient and women as decision makers. Albina has been confident in herself as a person, not just a woman. Abina may not have won the judgment in the courts she had hoped for but by daring to come up against her aggressors she is victorious for all womanhood! Unlike the other two documents written for women and by women the China National Program for Women s

  • 5. Negativity as A Cause of Decline Negativity in the workplace and the demand of jobs are causing a decline in American work ethic. Work ethic is a set of values that is based on hard work, attitude, and character. The three main causes of negativity in the workplace are people are negative, people are discriminated against, and single parents are trying to raise their child(ren) while working. As negativity in the workplace increases, morale, productivity, and work ethic decrease. When there is negativity in the workplace, customers can be chased away. Single parents trying to make a living and be in their children s lives can also cause negativity in the workplace. This can cause negativity because people are asked to work overtime at work or switch hours with someone for a certain reason. It s hard for a single parent to work overtime when they want to be in their children s lives and they are the only parent in the household. It s also hard for them to switch hours because when they find a job they usually try to find a job that gives them hours while their children are in school so that they can be with them before and after school and on the weekends. There are some jobs that fire people because they can t work overtime or switch hours or ask for off time on a holiday. Some single parents are even working minimum wage jobs just so that they have some kind of income coming in to support them and their family. Dujon made a very good point, If businesses had a work ethic they would gladly establish a family friendly culture that allows parents to meet their children s physical, psychological and financial needs. (Dujon par. 2) This is true because if a business had a work ethic then they would understand the importance of family values. There are after school programs, but most of them are too expensive for someone working a minimum or low wage job and raising a family. It s also hard to find a baby sitter when most people have a job and many people don t know their neighbors well enough to allow them
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Redemption In the Bible there is a story about a cruel and hateful man named Saul. He would track down and kill anyone belonging to the then new Christian faith, and he hated anything to do with Jesus. He would put both men and women into prison, and he was responsible for approving the stoning of one of the seven disciples told to go out and tell people about Jesus, Stephen. And he is probably one of the most classic examples of redemption known to Western Christian civilization. To put his long story concisely, he was traveling to Damascus and then Jesus approached him from heaven, blinding him with light and telling him he needed to do what Jesus said. Blind and helpless, he didn t eat or drink anything for three days, and then Jesus sent a man named Ananias who was actually very much afraid of Saul to heal his blindness, because God had chosen him to be a disciple. When Saul was healed, he turned away from his genocidal ways, and eventually became known as Paul, a messenger of the Good News of Christ and the main writer of a chunk of the New Testament of the Bible. This Saul to Paul effect, while one of the earlier examples of redemption from evil acts, has certainly not been the last. Redemption has always been a controversial topic, particularly if one s crimes are numerous and/or horrific part of the reason the death penalty is so often debated in America for its morality. But what people have really never agreed on is where the breaking point is of what can be forgiven and

Historical Inaccuracies In Braveheart In the film Braveheart , where a war breaks out between Scotland, which was under English rule, and England is portrayed in a somewhat historical manner, in the time periods of the late Middle Ages and the very Early Renaissance. The film by Mel Gibson, may not be exactly a complete historical portrayal of what happened between 1297 and 1305 but it is pretty close. Undoubtable the events captured in this film have helped shape what Scotlandis today, this is even more evident with the recent vote for the separation of Scotland with England. It s also unarguable that the film gives a very entertaining and exciting plot, through all scenes during this whole film. The film depicts how an ordinary man at the end of the 13th Century, William Wallace ,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wins a large amount of battles with the help of his army. Nonetheless, Wallace is chased down and apprehended, dragged to London, tried for treason, and executed by hanging, drawing and quartering, which at the time was the new technique for people found guilty of treason. Here are some of Hollywood s historical inaccuracies that go on in this film. At the peak of the Middle Ages from around 1150 to 1350 became the time period where medieval civilization took its more or less, compete form. William Wallace and King Edward I were still in a largely underdeveloped part of the world. The Middle Ages is often viewed as a period of darkness, superstition and ignorance. The poor lived in poverty, their lives at the mercy to the whims of the nobles who ruled over that land. The movie definitely showed this type of lifestyle and gave the viewer a feeling of what life was like back then. This was also an era when the average man was starting to demand his rights and defend them with arms. William Wallace is a significant historical figure not because he was a high born commander of knights, but because he was an ordinary Scotsman, a free farmer who rallied thousands of other ordinary Scotsmen to fight for their country. • 9. Blepharisma Americana Case Study The objective of this experiment was to investigate the response of Blepharisma americana, Paramecium caudatum, Euplotes, and Vorticella microorganisms to the acidification of their environment and the impact of acidification on the their community diversity. We hypothesized that lower pH values would cause Ciliophora community diversities and health to decline. Based on our collaborative data from BI107 lab sections (2016), compared to the starting population, Blepharisma americana, Paramecium caudatum, Euplotes, and Vorticella s average population size increased in pHconditions 7.0, 5.5, 4.5 and 3.5 (Figure 1). The reason for the ciliates to have a much higher average population size compared to the starting population is because they had the opportunity to reproduce for a week. All four ciliates had the lowest average populations at the pH condition 3.5 and the average population sizes of Euplotes and P. caudatum decreased as the pH levels decreased, implying that an acidic environment is not beneficial for their survival (Figure 1). This supports our hypothesis that a decrease in pH conditions leads to the decrease in average population size. Our results agree with Tremaine and Mills s (1991) data, which suggests acidification decreased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can also test the effect of acidification on plants that live in the ocean or lakes such as seaweed or water lilies to expand our results and include the influences of acidification on the aquatic plants. Conducting the study for a longer period of time will provide more opportunities for ciliates to reproduce and allow us to observe the long term effects of acidification on the ciliates population. Moreover, this would allow us to determine if the ciliates can eventually adapt to overcome the effects of acidification and
  • 10. The Generation Of The Boomer Generation Today, three generations work side by side in American businesses, each with their own differing values. Managers need to recognize their unique characteristics and plan accordingly. The term Generation Gap entered our daily lexicon in the 1960s when members of the Boomer generation were teenagers. It recognized the chasm that existed between the Boomers and their parents in regard to their divergent political views, taste in music, the clothes they wore, and professional goals: Baby Boomers hoping for early retirement received a loud wake up call when the economy receded around them. It looks like many will be on the job for years to come in order to pay off their mortgaged lifestyles. That doesn t bode well for Generation Xers, who have been positioning themselves for further advancement in hopes of an exodus by those Boomers, who might seem old and in the way rather than mentors of knowledge. And young Generation Yers are left scrambling for whatever entry level jobs remain in an ever shrinking and increasingly competitive American workplace. The entire work environment has been sent spinning as three generations of workers compete for fewer positions, all complicated by rapid advances in office and communications technologies that are eagerly embraced by younger workers while seemingly threatening to older ones. What s a manager to do? Yesterday s and Today s Gap The term Generation Gap entered our daily lexicon in the 1960s when members of the Boomer
  • 11. Exposing Our Children to Subliminal Messages President Herbert Hoover once said that, Children are our most valuable resource. Everybody knows the saying The children are our future. If everyone knows this saying than why are parents exposing our future to inappropriate and explicit content. This is because most people do not realize the explicit content their children are being exposed to. The shows, movies, and even commercials children are watching effect not only their actions and thought process but can also effect the future decisions and choices they make. From the day we are born to the day we die we have seen many different movies and seen many different TV shows; while we are watching and hearing these through our own eyes and ears we do not truly realize what our brains are consuming, because in reality we are viewing and hearing much more than we can naturally see. Subliminal messages are prearranged thoughts or ideas placed into the subconscious mind. Subliminal messages involve reacting to stimuli that are above your physiological threshold but below your perceptual thresholds. So basically your brain processes the messages without you knowing. The two main types of subliminal messaging are auditory and visual. In these two categories there are also subcategories. According to Anthony Pratkanis and Anthony Greenwald, who are Psychology professors, have defined these four different subcategories as: Subthreshold stimuli which are presented at energy levels too weak to be detected by the audience.
  • 12. The Social Roots Of Crime Introduction Crime is one of the most important, yet least understood social problems in society. The public s knowledge about crime is often based on a host of myths and misperceptions. Crime is often treated as an individualistic phenomenon. (Esposito, 2013) The social roots of crime are often ignored; this is why a sociological approach to criminology is important. Crimeis an action/behavior that is considered particularly harmful and thus formally banned by a criminal law. Americans are either indifferent or in favor of capital punishment, although public support for the death penalty has been declining (Esposito, 2013).Typical reasons given by supporters of Capital punishment; provides closure for grieving families, retribution and serves as a deterrent. Capital punishment is cost effective for example tax payers should not have to pay for killers to live behind bars. Possibilities for wrongful conviction has decreased. Jeffery Reiman is an American philosopher who wrote the book titled The Rich Get Richer and the Poor Get Prison. Jeffery Reiman argued that the criminal justice system was designed to fail. The criminal justice system is a system whose purpose is ensures laws that prosecute criminal offenders, upholds social control, deterrence and justify crime. Reiman stated in his book that the criminal justice system criminalizes non violent offenses such as drug use and prostitution, gives people prison sentences that are harsh and demeaning, charges and

The Importance Of A Planning Practice At The Asian Region Introduction According to Abbot and Adler (467), the history identifies a set of opportunities that must be a part of a planning practice, it should provide practical ways to define and explore the actual institution and theoretical settings to balance the situation. This statement takes me back in time while visiting the Asian Region such as the Philippines during my childhood, it is probably one of the most wonderful experiences I ever had. I would like to look back on the beauty of the Philippines more than ten years ago, particularly the Banaue Rice Terracesin Cordillera. Although this place is naturally beautiful and considered as the unofficial 8th Wonders of the World according to the UNESCO World Heritage during 1995 (Brown, Brown Walder, 2006), but this place has gained little popularity. The place needs restoration because of the constant rains and floods, there are also illegal loggers that are cutting down the trees and ruining their resources. It is a sign that it has not given significant importance or it is somehow neglected. According to history, the native people choose to live on the mountain rather than be taken as slaves by the Spanish tyrants during the war. Civilization and modernization have come after the invasion, but they are able to preserve their culture, language, and history when they choose to settle in this isolated place. According to Mandelbaum (185 188), a sense of history is good for the profession because it builds solidarity and

  • 16. Education Reform For The United States Education in America started with the Pilgrims in the early 1600 s. The first public school was opened in 1635 in Boston Massachusetts. In 1642, Massachusetts started an education reform that stated Any child not properly educated would apprentice to a trade . This education reform was created because they believed it was important for children and citizens to be able to read the laws of the land. This was the first law that required children to be education. If they were not properly educated they would be moved from their home to a better fit environment where they would be able to learn. Virginia then followed with a similar law in 1646. In 1647 Massachusetts founded an act called Old Deluder Satan Act . This act required towns of more than fifty families to hire a teacher for reading and writing. Towns of more than a hundred families had to establish a grammar schoolwhich served as college preparation. Dame schools taught reading and writing to females because this was all they were expected to learn so that they would not have the same intellect as men. Their classes were held in the teacher s kitchen who continued her chores while the students did their lessons. At the beginning of the 20th century, parents and public schools began demanding more practical and useful curriculums. Growing up with my mom as a teacher I know how much time they spend working and helping their students learn and achieve so many things and how little they receive back in

Canadian Magazine Analysis The Canadian Magazine Dispute Word Count: 940 Today, 89% of Canadian magazine content is foreign, and the majority of that foreign content is American (SUNY LEVIN Institute). Since the 1920 s, the Canadian government has taken measures to protect Canadian culture and their magazine industry. Starting first with tariffs in the 20 s, they eventually moved to prohibition of split run editions of magazines that were published external to the country in 1965 (SUNY LEVIN Institute). By protecting this small percentage of sales, Canada can guarantee some jobs for Canadian writers. These writers will write content with a perspective unique to the culture of their country, in turn promoting and protecting the Canadian culture through their voices being heard in the media. The government subsidizing these Canadian magazines helps ensure that these jobs are kept safe. Personally, I think that this is more important for the economy than for Canadian culture, though I have many friends who disagree with me on this, and who actively seek out Canadian over American content in all media. Canadians should absolutely be able to buy and support whatever magazines they prefer. I do not believe that a government should be able to censor what people are exposed to in any way. Contrarily, I also do not think it is unfair for the government to levy extra taxes on foreign publications. These taxes are always passed down to the purchaser. Most foreign magazines cost double domestic magazines in Canada. The money from these taxes pours back into our economy, so from an economic standpoint, I do not mind paying them if and when I choose to read foreign

He has written and produced many movies that portray religion in some way. The one I chose to focus on is called Spirited away. In the movie, the Main character is a small girl named Chihiro. At the end of the movie she does get bac to her parents but she isn t the same she is more mature. This movie seems to have some ties to Shinto religions. Shinto is a religion that thinks that everything is interconnected or interdependent. To experience the goodness someone must have a pure heart (korko). When people stray away from it they are considered polluted. The bath house in the movie may be seen as symbolism for getting purification back to korko after you have been polluted. Friendship Problems With Children With ADHD In class, we discussed many of the symptoms associated with ADHD and how these symptoms contribute to academic problems, peer and family difficulties and aggression. Individuals with ADHD struggle to sustain attention, focus and complete complex tasks, speech fluently, internalize private speech and regulate their emotions. All of these issues likely contribute to the friendshipproblems identified in the current study. For instance, the study found that children with ADHD have shorter friendships than the comparison group of children and this could be related to their difficulty sustaining attention and regulating their emotions. Other children might find it difficult to maintain friendships with children with ADHD because that cannot focus as long on the activities that they want to do. In other words, a child with ADHD might tire of a game after a few minutes and want to do something else but their friend might want to finish the game first to see who wins. This attention deficit might make the friend weary of staying in this relationship because they do not understand. Additionally, a child with ADHD may not understand their friend s social cues and they may get easily agitated or upset when things do not go their way. As a child, the friend is not looking to maintain a difficult friendship which could account for decreased longevity of friendships in children with ADHD, especially in the currently studied age range. • 26. Photosynthesis and Respiration All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesisis the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. Plants can capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis. This chemical reaction can be described by the following simple equation: 6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2 The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light is present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss. Plants convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be converted back to water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be compared to air in an inflated balloon. Water pressure or turgor is needed in plant cells to maintain shape and ensure

Imagery paints a picture within the readers minds and puts them in the same situation that the sentence is portraying. Having imagery in a work, makes a reader more into the piece and involved. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesarby William Shakespeare, blood is a device most often symbolizing betrayal by the conspirators, the death of Julius Caesar, and foreshadowing the upcoming events through Mark Antonys eyes. Julius Caesar s death came about by the betrayal of the conspirators. Brutus was one of Caesar s closest friends, but his dagger was the last to break through Caesar s cloak. The commoners and Antony were shocked to see the whole scene as the conspirators stream forth thy blood from Caesar. (III, i, 201) This image allows the reader to really visualize how Caesar actually died in the hands of the other conspirators. Mark Antony felt betrayed by not just Brutus, but all of the conspirators. He was devastated, but managed to stay dignified by shaking the bloody fingers of thy foes . (III, i, 198) The image of blood on each of the hands of the conspirators resulted in Caesar dying by betrayal. Blood and betrayal make the reader think that it would lead Mark Antony s actions to reflect those of the conspirators, but he perseveres and just asks for one chance to speak at Julius funeral. Betrayal by one person can lead to the leadership of another.

The problem isn t only in the current political situation and relations between the countries, with every new born generation it flames it s distant past. There are two groups are fighting for the same small territory, with both having deep ties to the land. The states both having reasonable argument, of historical and religious background, and within confines, two nationally distinct groups, who are divided by language, culture, and history, cannot live wholly apart or wholly together. Jewish claim is based upon the promise to Abraham and his descendants, that the land was the site of the Jewish kingdom of Israel, destroyed by the Roman Empire, and the need for a safe haven from European anti Semitism. Palestinian claims of the land is based on their residency of this country for decades and that they represented the majority of the people, rejecting the biblical era kingdom for a modern day claim. If Palestinians agree to the biblical claim, they state that since Abraham s son Ishmael was the forefather of Arabs, then God s promise of the land to the children of Abraham includes Arabs as well. They do not believe that they should give up their home land to compensate for European crimes against the people of Israel. In the two state solution it would create a Palestinian state made up of Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem to exist alongside an Israeli state. For years, it s been the government of Israel s stated policy, yet Palestinians debate that the government of Israel is cheating them because lack of effort to the growth of settlements. Every time a settlement is built, a little more is taken from a future Palestinian state. The hopes for peace seems to diminish with Palestinians accuse Israel of expanding lands and ripping away the resources that Palestinians want for their statehood. In the ongoing conflict, Israel s is building a wall that separates Palestinian territory from Israeli territory, a security fence for the Israeli, but an apartheid wall for the Palestinians. • 40. The Concept Of Incentives And The Way Of Which Humans... Sandel next adresses the concept of incentives and the way in which humans respond to them. Individuals act in order to maximize their own welfare and therefore respond things that allow them to do so; these things are known as incentives. Sandel provides us with the example of students who where offered financial incentive to do better in school. However the reaction to the incentives differed from the standard economic model. While paying students who passed AP exams did increase over all success, the results indicated that the amount of money payed made no difference in the amount of achievement. While the did serve its purpose as an incentive, the money did not act as a bribe but rather as an agent that changed the stigma associated with AP testing making it cool for students to do. While there do exist benefits to offering incentives, there also exists ramification known as perverse incentives. The notion of perverse incentives deals with the idea that by placing a market price on a certain act, the meaning of the act itself may become blurred. Sandel offers the example of fine Vs. fees where parents would come late to pick up their children from day care and treat the fine for coming late as a fee for extended service. By placing a market value on the extended time care takers had to work, parents no longer felt guilty about leaving their child later till later hours and therefore eroding the original purpose of the fine. At this point Sandel moves to the

Steinbeck in Flight creates the setting for the Torress home, describing how The little shack, the rattling, rotting barn were gray bitten with sea salt, beaten by the damp wind until they had taken on the color of the granite hills (p.1). He gives the reader a live image of the weather, the families home, and the nature setting of the story. He uses great detail in creating the setting in each of these stories because it sets the tone and atmosphere for each of them. Steinbeck uses his setting to set the theme and tone in his short stories, making the element crucial in each story. In both Flight and The Chrysanthemums, PepГ© and Elisa struggle with their identity and who they are. PepГ© is nineteen with a dead father, a mother, and two younger siblings. He wants his right to manhood but his mother wants to keep him under wing. This is where the two have conflict, his mother constantly makes him feel like a child and PepГ© just wants to show himself and his family that he is ready to be a man. Steinbeck shows this by writing how Mama thought him fine and brave, but she never told him so. She said, Some lazy cow must have got into thy father s family, else

Borja, a rich man, who is a collector of many books, hires him to authenticate a copy of Nine Doors of the Kingdom of Shadows, a book which supposedly contains instructions for summoning the Devil. After the author was burned alive, there are only three copies of the book left in the world, but only one is a true original. This technique primarily shown in the first portion of the book, told by Boris Balkan, who at the time is appeared to be friendly with Corso, but reveals much about his personality via foreshadowing. On page 6, Balkan is talking to Corso about the authenticity of the Dumas draft he brought in, when Corso began to smile, In time, I found, he could also smile like a cruel, hungry wolf... (6). Later, while talking about Corsos love for reading at a tender age, Balkan says Although it was highly unlikely that Corso s childhood ever merited the term tender (9). Soon thereafter, Balkan was telling the reader how Corso was described by a close friend, Precise, unscrupulous, and deadly as a black mamba (12). Majority of the foreshadowing comes within the first couple dozen of pages, all mainly about how Corso is a bad person in someway, which is best illustrated on 16, when Balkan states But the positive feeling was quickly dispelled, as when you touch your pocket and realize that your wallet has just been stolen (16). All of these foreshadows set up for an intriguing mystery, where Corso s fox like cunning and deception are used often, though he sometimes gets beat at his own
  • 43. Ender s Game Argumentative Essay Last summer, when I was a rising freshman, I made a grave mistake. I had relaxed all summer, and I was somewhat mentally prepared to start school. However, I still had one task left to complete: read the summer reading book. Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card. This is a fantastic story I had read it in sixth grade and I adored it. Despite my affection for the novel, I was tentative to read it again after all, why should I why waste my precious time repeating a task I had already completed? However, by the time August rolled around, I came to the inevitable realization that I barely remembered the plot. Even though I knew I needed to crack it open, I put off re readingthe story for as long as I could. I ended up finally dusting off my copy on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So, that leaves an important question to be answered: how can you stop procrastinating? The first thing I would recommend doing is buying the book or checking the story you must read out from the library. If you wait all summer to complete the reading assignment, you might find that your local bookstore is completely sold out of the novel you need. Or, when you finally get around to stepping into the library, the waiting list for the copy of Legend by Marie Lu that you need by next week is twenty people long. If you read the book earlier in the summer, you won t feel nearly as rushed to find a copy of the novel and finish it as quickly as possible, which gives you much more time to relax. Another tip for not procrastinating comes from the University of Alabama, there are three primary considerations in creating your study environment: Your most effective and efficient learning style, the nature of the learning task, and the availability of learning resources. With that being said, the first thing you need to take into consideration is your personal learning style. You might have an easier time reading the book if you determine how you learn in advance and create a better reading environment for you to study in. If you are an auditory learner, determine whether you learn better with or without background noise, and place yourself within a suitable environment when preparing to read. If you are a visual learner, be sure to read in a place with adequate lighting and minimal distractions (like highways and other busy roads). If you are a tactile learner, be sure to find a suitable place to sit and read a workspace that is not too comfortable (so you don t fall asleep) but not unbearable. When determining the nature of the task, it is important to know that you have no say in what you must read; the nature of your learning is

Written during the 5th century in ancient Athens. Antigone and Lysistrata both are two important, popular plays that contain a main character that was female. Although they can both be seen as very similar, they do differ in many ways. The most important difference between Antigone and Lysistrata is that Antigone has a community that does not approve of the main characters plans and although they feel sympathy for her, they take the opposing side, while Lysistrata has a society of people that come together to help the main character achieve her goal. This difference is important because the community s actions play a tremendous role in the overall outcome of the play and the way the original viewers, who were only men, felt when the play finished. The conclusions and the feelings brought forth by the dramaindicate the style it was written in, tragedyor comedy. An ending with a death, leaving an audience feeling sorry creates a tragedy, as an accomplishment from something completely unrealistic would create a comedy. Antigone s community does not involve themselves with her decisions which leaves her to fight by herself. Furthermore, this influences her tragic fate and leads the male Athenians watching to feel sorry for Antigone but unresponsive of her personal choices. In Lysistrata, the community joins Lysistrata and accomplishes to stop a war that was going on during

San Diego Wildfires San Diego Wildfires: Smoke and Ash Debris a Public Health Concern San Diego Wildfires The county of San Diego is a unique haven to hundreds of state and federally recognized endangered, threatened, or rare plant and animal species (The Nature Conservancy, n.d.). San Diego is also a territory with a long history of environmentally catastrophic wildfires. The Cedar and Witch Creek Fires are two of the most recent and notorious wildfires in California history for their degree of damage in terms of acreage burned and overall expense (The City of San Diego, n.d.). During and after these massive wildfire events is a significant public health concern related to respiratory health from the effects of smoke and ash debris. The challenges presented in mitigating and managing these health issues extends into county budget, public education, and cohesive multi agency prevention and recovery efforts. Moreover, participatory efforts from the residents of San Diego County is key to the success of mitigating health risks presented by wildfire smoke and ash debris (Phillips, 2009, p. 420). Background The Cedar Fire (2003) was one of the largest and deadliest wildland fires in California history burning nearly 300,000 acres in San Diego County and killing 15, including 1 firefighter. A lost hiker accidently set this fire from survival methods attempted with a flare. • 47. The Complex Communication of Gibbons Essay This article discusses the form of communication that Gibbon monkeys use amongst their species. The argument that appears to be present throughout this article is that Gibbons are not only able to communicate with each other, but also that their communication system shares certain features with the human language system. Although I agree that this species communicationsystem shares particular design features with the human language, the definition of language attests that this type of communication is not considered a language. The first of the five core design features discussed throughout this paper is semanticity. Semanticity is defined as specific sound signals that are directly tied to certain meanings (Bauer, 2006, pp. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I would argue the part of this design feature that deems this species communication as a definite, closed system. For instance, researchers describe Gibbon songs as including varying pitches that they use to combine up to seven notes to create more complex structures or phrases ( Singing for Survival, 2006). In the human language system, the meaning of symbols and/or signals vary depending on certain contexts and situations. It appears that Gibbons have some capability to change their songs based on different situations they are engaging in such mating, warnings, etc. Therefore, I ve concluded that these abilities demonstrate a certain amount of productivity. However, this species does not the competency to use an unlimited amount of utterances, which would essentially eliminate them from fully having this design feature in their communication system. Displacement is a design feature of language that we as humans are able to use to reference the past, future, and the hypothetical. It refers to the human language system s ability to communicate about things that are not present spatially, temporally, and/or realistically. According to Language Matters , displacement is defined as the ability to talk about events remote in time and place (Bauer, 2006, pp. 49 57). Although

The situation of global chocolate always causes wide attention since 2007. As could be seen in figure 1 and 2, it seems that the situation of chocolate shortages is a recent problem. The peak of this trend showed in November 2014. According to Walters (2015, p.4), chocolate shortage is happened all over the world. It is believed that this situation might get worse by chocolate makers. It was predicted that the deficit of chocolate could attain more than a million tons in 2020. The shortages of global chocolate could causes lager effects in many fields such as social, economic and food industrial field because chocolate is a very popular food or raw material. In this report, some results would be enumerated and compared by the empirical evidences to discuss what would need to be done for facing global chocolate shortages. The discussion consisted by factors of reasons, the economic effects and some alternatives of chocolate. Firstly, the major reasons of global chocolate shortages are cocoa shortages and over consumption. It has a close relationship between them that cocoa bean is a basis of chocolate. Climate changes and pestilence in Africa which is a chief producer, was culprit. It needs about two to five years to get new cacao tress to produce new cocoa beans. It even needs to take 10 years to reveal traits worth preserving (Harris 2014). Walters (2015, p.4) also holds

The use of Hemingway s symbols in A Farewell to Armshas more meaning than what meets the eye. In A Farewell to Arms, rain is a recurring symbol of death. Rain in this book can be interpreted in other ways, too. Misery, despair, tragedy, destruction, and sadness are additional denotations of the rain in the story. At the time they probably had no clue that the actions they put forth in their time would eventually lead up to the world we know today. Their life events may not have been grand, but they were enough to make an impact. Caesar Augustusis one example of a person in history who led a successful life. Born Gaius Octavius on September 23, 63 B.C., in Velletri, Italy. Augustus was a sickly child with few connections. Although, one connection he did have was being the great nephew of Julius Caesar. Augustus was known by three different names throughout his life. From birth to 44 B.C. he was known as Octavius, in 44 B.C. he was adopted and changed his name to Octavian and in 26 B.C. the Roman Senate conferred on him the name Augustus. His father was a senator and governor in the Roman Republic and passed away when Augustus was four years old; his mother Atai was Caesar s niece. In his younger years his grandmother Julia Ceasaris helped raise him; she was the sister of Julius Caesar. Augustus donned the toga, the Roman sign of manhood, at age 16, and began taking on responsibilities through his family connections. At the time Rome was dangerous and engulfed in a civil war, one faction of the war was led by his great uncle Caesar. He started on his path of responsibilities by leaving for Hispania to fight alongside his

Snow Goose Overpopulation Essay The Overpopulation of the Snow Goose in North America Abstract The purpose of this paper is to explore available research on the overpopulation of the Snow Goose on the North American continent. The snow goose has been rising in population since the middle of the century and has been escalating so much it is destroying their natural habitat. Wildlife managers have just recently begun to implement strategies to combat this problem. Mainly through the use of hunters the managers are trying to curb the population growth. Introduction There are three main species of Snow Goose of primary concern. The Lesser Snow Goose (LSGO) is the must abundant and at the same time most troublesome. ... The Texas Department of Fish and Wildlife states that the population of wintering snow geese has remained constant. They imply this is due to the fact that the geese have spread their winter range into other states (TWDS 1999). Basic questions that HR planners should answer are the following: What are the jobs needed to be filled during the coming period of time? and How and where we are going to get people from to fill those jobs? What are the jobs needed to be filled? Answering the demand question requires prediction: who will leave jobs and create vacancies, which jobs will be eliminated, and which new jobs will be created. One of the methods for predicting the vacancies and increasing number of jobs is to project historical statistics into the future, the so called Statistical Techniques. This is applicable for organizations with a long history in the market and a clear understanding of their business, which can easily predict the demand for their products or services (production volume, level of sales, number of contracts, etc.). Behavioral theories of the causes of turnover (Richard Mowday, Lyman Porter, and Richard Steers The psychology of commitment, absenteeism, and turnover 1982) accompanied with conducting employee surveys particularly designed to assess basic predictors of turnover (such as job satisfaction), in addition to the support of human resource planners can give enough information to predict how many filled positions can possibly become vacant. This information is more accurate and can be useful mostly when a single organizational department has a large number of employees. Nevertheless, on practice it is less precise when making predictions
