Aboriginal People After Ww1
The Experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People after WW1
Intro here
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were treated differently before the war and during the war. They
had few rights, low wages and poor living conditions before the war. They were not officially
classified as Australian citizens, because of the Aboriginal Protectors Act from 1869, which gave the
government more control over them. This meant they couldn t go to a public bar to drink, couldn t
vote, couldn t be in a relationship with a non Aboriginal person, could not own any property and were
not included in the census. When the war started and Australia was recruiting soldiers, many

Respecting all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people involved in WW1 is difficult, as many
Aboriginal people pretended they were from other countries or were of European descent. In other
cases, their nationality simply wasn t recorded as it was deemed relevant. As it names are hard to find,
many people are trying to get their ancestors recognised in honour roles. In 2007, the Coloured Digger
March started. It is held in Redford, Sydney. It is attended by hundreds of indigenous diggers and their
descendants to help get them acknowledged. In 2008, the Coloured Diggers project formed the
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterans honour board. The have been several, smaller
ceremonies for Aboriginal servicemen in the past. For example, the Noongar elder, Ken Colberg of the
Bibbulumn people, who served in the Korean War, organised the Aboriginal servicemen s march to the
Hyde Park memorial in Sydney in the early 1970 s. Ther has also been an informal memorial service
several hundred meters behind the Australian War Memorial in the bush, held since 1998. Other
indigenous memorials held across Australia include; the Australian Indigenous war veterans memorial

Summary Of Federico Garcia Lorca s Blood Wedding
Federico GarcĂa Lorca grew up in Fuente Vaqueros, Spain with a wealthy family in the middle of a
poverty stricken city. Lorca always felt out of place, wanting to help those less fortunate and he used
many of his experiences surrounding the money gap as an influence over his literature. Also, Federico
Garcia Lorca was an openly homosexual man during a time period when traditions and morals were
very rigidly followed. In correlation to Blood Wedding, Lorca and Leonardo live similar lifestyles in
terms of not following the social normalities and the internal conflicts they have with themselves.
Such as, Lorca being a homosexual man and Leonardo s inability to let go the Bride even though he is
a married man with a child. Yet, both are expected to be morally bound and consider their families
before anything else. Lorca challenges societal rules by exploring traditions, isolation, greed, and man
versus self in his literary work. Specifically, in the play, Blood Wedding, Lorca utilizes symbols and
minor characters to illustrate the ironic destruction of relationships due to traditions and moral
obligations. To begin, when the Bride and Bridegroom are under familial constraints their choice
between family and passion is illustrated by the playwright s placement of minor characters. For
example, at the beginning of the play the Bridegroom s mother expresses her need for revenge and
anger towards the Felix s by stating, My dead are under the weeds, they can t speak, they re

Explain Briefly the Physiological Process of Hearing in...
Sound Engineering Principles
Module SED1001
Brief;
Explain briefly the physiological process of hearing in humans. Which factors affect our hearing in
terms of perception of loudness and pitch, and what part does psychoacoustics play in our perception
of sound?
Then, give an overview of the main historical developments in recording sound. Which development
do you think is the most significant and why?

It is possible to explain shortly the hearing process, fundamental for any human being, as it follows:
Outer ear
As a sound reaches the ear, this gets directed into the ear canal by the pinna, a funnel like structure.
The ear canal increases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Generally speaking, the limit is above 200ms, below that duration, loudness is affected by sound s
length. (5)
Direction
The directional perception of sounds in the space is made possible thanks to a subconscious
comparison of the nerve signals coming from both ears (Binaural Effect).
The four factors determining such phenomenon are delay time and intensity difference of the signals
perceived by each ear, together with phase and timbre.
To get into more detail, the delay time, or time of arrival, for each ear, is different whether the sound
source is in front of the listener (0ms of delay between the ears) or next to him or her (up to 0.6 ms),
while the intensity of the signal reaching the closer ear is obviously higher.(6)
The signal perceived by each ear also has a different phase, but only if its bandwidth is greater than
the distance between the ears, I.e. below 500 Hz.
Finally, the timbre is also important, as the signal will lose high frequencies while reaching the
farthest ear.
10
Environment and reflections
Among the others, the Haas effect also plays an important role in our perception of sound.
Named after the experimenter who quantified this behaviour of our ears, it s now proved that the ear
attends to the direction of the sound that arrives first and does not

Narrative Essay On High School
The last bell rang, and all the kids at Southport County High School bombarded the door of the
classroom. It was Friday and all the kids attempted to jam through the door at once. Jane, who sat at
the back of the class, waited quietly for her peers to leave. When all the kids clogging the door had
left, she rose from her desk, told her language teacher, Mrs. Phyllis, Goodbye, and sauntered into a
stream of shouting kids.
Jane was a petite tenth grader. Her hair was naturally brown and her eyes blue, she was quiet,
reserved, and only spoke to her close friends and family. Her mother worked seven days a week at the
local diner, Fry Cakes, and her dad left her mother when Jane was merely a baby. Sometimes she
missed her dad, even though she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the stirring of one of the people on the ground helped wake her up. Jane started rifling through
the supplies. There were three water bottles and purifying drops. Four sleeping bags, countless cans of
chicken noodle soup and three backpacks with one knife, a rain poncho, jacket, and freeze dried food
packets.
The other teenagers lying on the ground stirred and awoke. The first one to stand was the boy. He had
golden brown hair, it was almost blonde, his eyes were a startling shade of green. His features were
soft and round, like a child s.
Finally, the girl stood, she had long blonde hair and blue eyes. She was also tall and thin. The two
could pass for brother and sister, or at least cousins. They stared, shocked, at Jane and the supplies that
she stood in front of. Hey, Jane said quietly.
So what are we here for? the girl inquired. Jane had figured out that the girl s name was Sammy and
the boy s name was Tom, and they were, in fact, first cousins.
I don t know, Jane replied, this note was the only thing I saw around this mound of supplies.
There s no time for this! We should get out of the clearing, said Tom. it looks like there are some kind
of trees over there, he pointed to the north of the concrete pad, I think our best bet would be to make a

Who is the genius that created things like the pulley...
Who is the genius that created things like the pulley systems and fulcrums? His name is Archimedes.
Archimedes was a Greek mathematician, as well as a physicist, engineer, inventor and astronomer.
There is not a whole lot that is known about Archimedes, but he is regarded as a leading scientist in
classical age. Archimedes designed and created very innovated machine and tools that are still used to
this day. Archimedes was also considered one of the greatest mathematicians of the ancient world and
also plainly one of the greatest all time. The life of Archimedes, the machines he created, books he
wrote, and the intricate tools he created were and still are beneficial and meaningful to us now. The
life of Archimedes was one of intense and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last days of Archimedes life was amidst a very long war. Archimedes died in 212 BC during the
Second Punic War, which was when a roman force under the command of General Marcus Claudius
Marcellus captured the city of Syracuse, which the siege ended up lasting for two years long.
According to an account from Plutarch, Archimedes was working on a mathematical diagram while
the city was being under attacked and captured. The Roman soldier commanded that Archimedes
come with him and meet General Marcellus but Archimedes declined the offer. The soldier did not
want to hear it and being frustrated he killed Archimedes with a sword. The account that Plutarch gave
isn t very clear, because assumably he may have been killed while trying to surrender to a Roman
Soldier. General Marcellus was angered by the death of Archimedes, because he saw him as a valuable
scientific asset and he actually had previously order him not to be dead. Archimedes was an incredibly
smart inventor and designer of some radical machines. One invention that Archimedes is known for is
the death ray. According to the 2nd century AD author Lucian, during the Siege of Syracuse,
Archimedes destroyed ships with fire. Centuries later, another writer named Anthemius of Tralles
mentions that Archimedes used burning glasses as the weapon. The weapon, sometimes called the
Archimedes heat ray , was used to focus the light from the sun and magnify on to the ships burning

20th Century Nursing Research Paper
became the first registered nurse. Professionalization of nursing in France came in the late 19th and
early 20th century. Government policy after 1900 was to secularize public institutions, and diminish
the role the Catholic Church. Of the who personally anti clerical , many doctors realized their

were poorly trained. Faced with the long hours and low pay, many of the soon married and left the

Critiquing Communication and Interviewing Skills
Critiquing communication and interviewing skills of a health assessment interview with a client
Introduction Communication is one of the basic survival skills of human and also a fundamental part
of nursing. Effective communication would help to promote a positive nurse client relationship which
is crucial for the delivery of quality nursing care (Sheppard, 1993; McCabe 2003). Health assessment
is also vital in collecting information in the nursing process. In order to collect data in a systematic
and standardized approach, and enable the nurse to determine different aspects of health and human
function, the Gordon Functional Health Patterns which have 11 categories are usually used as a
framework of the assessment. The pattern named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third weakness observed is the frequent use of cliché such as don t worry too much and that s
normal which would give the client an impression that the nurse does not address and understand her
situation well. This is because clichés sounds flippant ,do not always suit the current situation and
could prevent the building of trust between the nurse and client (Dewit, 2001). One more weakness
encountered is that the nurse might have frightened the client by saying that s serious! and the final
outcome of the breast cancer when the client said she had discovered a hard substance on her left
breast. The nurse may not be able to handle this situation as the client burst in to tears the moment that
she heard the frightening statements. This would distract and confuse the client and therefore the pace
of the interview would be disrupted (Hodgson, Martin, 2006). Rooms for improvement If time is
allowed, the nurse could teach the client how to perform a thorough self examination in order to assist
her detecting the body changes as the client seemed not to have enough knowledge on BSE. Secondly,
open ended question should be adopted as the major type of interview questions because it allows
maximum freedom for the client to respond in his or her own way (Balzer, Julia, 2004). Finally, nurse
should rehearse the whole set of question before conducting a real interview so that she could be more
relaxed when dealing with client s responses. Insights and

The Benefits Of The Cuban Embargo
Would lifting the Cuba Embargo benefit its communist government or its people most? Are we willing

United States government on Cuba. The purpose of the Embargo is to keep sanctions on Cuba should
their government continue to refuse democratization and greater respect for human rights. ( 12
Significant ) For decades, experts have argued their cases concerning the possible repeal of the

the U.S. government would send a message that the U.S. is weak in it enforcing its laws as, according

elections, grant freedom of the press, and allow labor unions. (Meyers) The Cuban government has

Essay about Analysis of “the Tyger” and “the Lamb”
In The Tyger, William Blake explains that there is more that meets the eye when one examines the
Creator and his creation, the tiger. The character is never defined. All throughout the poem the
character questions the Creator of the tiger to determine if the Creator is demonic or godlike. The
poem reflects mainly the character s reaction to the tiger, rather than the tiger s reaction to the world.
The character is inquiring about the location of the Creator of the tiger when he says, In what distant
deeps or skies (5). In this quote the character is trying to figure out where exactly the Creator is
located. He wants to know if he s in Heaven or Hell. The words deeps and skies could have many
meanings. The description of deeps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On one hand this is a reference to the God of the Bible; but on the other, it could be a reference to
Blake himself. Surely, the poem is as inspiring as it is ambiguous. Someone that is of no religion
would think other wise or maybe someone wouldn t care who made the tiger.
Blake uses symbols to express the strength of the tiger and its Creator. The main symbol in The Tyger
is the tiger itself. The tiger is formed on a number of ideas, which is the eye of man and God, but it is
also a sign of the very same eye, which created it. The word fire is used to exemplify the aggressive
character of the tiger, Burnt the fire of thine eyes? (6). The fire can be used to describe the way the
tiger sees and is seen by other people. When a person sees or comes into contact with a tiger, the
person gets tense right away because we know that one false move and the tiger may attack. This
example shows how vicious and hostile the tiger can be just as a hurricane. The Creator could also be
described as a hostile person also. This might be a depiction of himself. The sign of fire is leading in
the structure of the poem. To know the foundation of the fire is to know the source of the Creator. He
relates the tiger s environment to one during the Industrial Revolution when he says, What the
hammer? What the chain? / In what furnace was thy brain? (13 14). This tells

Modern Anti Cruelty Laws For The United States
The rights of animals have been battled over for generations. Humans began t o domesticate animals
such as dogs, goats, chickens, sheep, and beasts of burden between 10,000 and 18,000 years ago.
Many people originally believed that because animals had no souls they also felt no pain; however,
this belief changed as the study of animals increased. The first animal protection law in western
civilization was adopted in 1641; making it illegal to exercise any Tirranny or Crueltie towards any
bruite Creature which are usuallie kept for man s use. (7) In 1789, the English philosopher, Jeremy
Bentham, was the first to state that animals have rights. This concept was different from the belief that
animals felt pain, in his claims animals deserved basic human rights. This new theory shook the
foundation of many peoples belief in what animal rights truly is. In 1821, Maine became the first state
to adopt modern anti cruelty laws for the U.S.; every other state eventually passed similar legislation.
It still wasn t until the 21st century that lawsuits in the interest of animals became common. The
animal rights movement has become most active in the United States, Canada, Western Europe,
Australia, and New Zealand. Animal rights organizations have been using court systems to protect
animals from being used in harmful activities, such as the agricultural industry and as being research
subjects, in the belief that they have the same basic rights as all humans. Animals have been used

five minutes, my stage fright left me, never to return Mark Twain describes the way stage fright left

him. Not all the things he says is fact, and not all the things he says is opinion. The way Twain

The story My Papa Mark Twain was written by Suzy Clemens, Mark Twain s daughter and offers her
stories about her father; many of the stories are her opinions of her father based on her love for father.
He has beautiful gray hair, not any too thick or any too long, but just right; a Roman nose which

not all will think it is incessantly. Suzy knows from growing up with her dad, Mark Twain, what he
likes and dislike are. One thing he s fond of are cats. Papa is fond of animals particularly cats (p.98).

Examples Of Ghost In Hamlet
Hamlet: Belief of Ghost from a Psychological Perspective Psychological factors can be seen as the
reason people believe in ghost. It could be because their minds have the concept of ghost wired into
them because of genetics or because of intuition and the thought of ghost. People could also have
psychological tendencies, such as depression and dissociation, which make them think they have seen

humans minds got more open to ghost concepts. The idea of people s minds being open to ghost

John Oliver s Piece On Food Waste
While everyone may love to go out and enjoy a fine meal with friends and family, most will never
stop to think the process of how the food came about, or the production thereof. John Oliver s piece on
Food Waste outlines all the problems of food waste and how they can impact society, animals, nature,
and even the farmers who harvest the produce. America and its businesses should try to decrease the
amount of food being wasted. By doing so, not only are we a contributing factor to help reduce waste,
save time and money, but we are also aiding the less fortunate in a society, while still saving natural
resources and the planet as a whole. There is enough food waste in America to fill up 730 football
stadiums. Yet, ironically there were almost 50 million people who live in households that are food
insecure in 2013. Thus, it is critically important to help reduce (or at the very least reevaluate) the
amount of food that is wasted so it can be used to help those who can t always afford it, or, help to
reduce the impact of methane released by landfills, or, help to use less resources gone into making the
produce. John Oliver starts out his presentation by emphasizing the obsession of food by America and
the constant bombardment of food advertisement. Even making it as a part of American culture and
the stereotypical representation of America. Commenting on statistics of how much produced food is
then going on to landfills as waste. Ironically pointing out the amount of people

American to do list . Today, the United States employs two agencies to do this crucial work: The
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Association (NOAA), which are responsible for the frontiers of outer space and the earth s oceans,
respectively. Over the years, both NASA and NOAA have provided us with enormous amounts of
extremely useful information; however the amount of federal funding given to NOAA s explorations
each year is very much less than the amount given to NASA. Financial figures show that each year,

Nevertheless, If NASA were to cut back on sending humans and instead send robots, they could save

space and the mystery that it contains, along with the action packed movies made about space that
captivate America even beyond their opening weekends, such as Star Wars, BattleStar Galactica, the
humorous Space Balls, etc, and the simple fear of not knowing what, or who, is or is not out there,
every person has some amount of curiosity in them in regard to the dark skies surrounding our earth. It
is simply human nature to want to discover the unknown (Boucher, Marc p.2). However, with the
same inner drive to discover space should come the intention of wanting to explore the ocean. Humans
have laid eyes on only about 5% of the oceans in entirety, and the necessary increase in funding would
allow for the other 95% to be seen and known. All the water on our Blue Planet covers roughly 71%
of the earth s surface. Luckily, NOAA researchers have used their inner curiosity and taken action,
finding out more and more about the five oceans that span the earth, and all the life that lives in them.

Vaccine Exemptions Must Be Protected
Joseph Mercola in his article Vaccine Exemptions Must Be Protected provides data about the nature of
vaccinations as well as current outbreak evidence to support his claim that vaccine exemptions should
be allowed. He argues that the immunity provided by vaccinations is inferior immunity (Mercola 6) in
comparison to naturally acquired immunity antibodies to a disease produced by the body after
contracting a disease. If one ignores the false assumptions about the immune system Mercola s
argument appears sound because of all the statistics of failing vaccinations. However, Mercola relies
on hasty generalization, the fallacy of reaching a hasty conclusion without evaluating all the evidence,
to conclude that vaccines are failing.
Mercola assumes that natural immunity is 100% effective and will not fail as vaccine acquired
immunity is. Because vaccines are not 100% effective, Mercola argues that people should be exempt
from mandatory vaccinations. The implication being that submitting to a vaccine that will fail in the
future is putting oneself at unnecessary risk. Mercola s argument can be reconstructed as follows...
1. If vaccines are not 100% effective, then people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations.
2. Vaccines are not 100% effective.
Therefore, people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations. Premise 2 depends on Mercola s
use of the fallacy of hasty generalization. He relies on three specific outbreaks (2010 California B.

Symbols In Tangerine By Edward Bloor
Tangerine Trees
The Merriam Webster dictionary defines symbolism as a representation of abstract or intangible things
by means of symbols. There is a lot of this in Tangerine, and every symbol has a different meaning
and theme connected to it. The use of this symbolism in the novel has not only created a new way to
think of the book, but a web of themes tied to symbols. In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, a
young boy named Paul is held captive by the giant secret surrounding his mysterious eye injury. He
has a feeling the injury somehow involves his older brother Erik, but he does not know for sure yet.
When he moves to the town of Tangerine, Florida, he finds out the truth behind the secrets and lies
that have been haunting him for years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel Tangerine, the symbol of the tangerine trees reveals the theme that good always prevails.
Paul is represented but the tangerine trees in the novel, adding to the theme that good always prevails.
The tangerine trees in the town of Tangerine are very important. Almost everybody in that town works
in the fields, including Luis and his family, who are close friends with Paul. Everyone works
extremely hard to keep the trees alive and healthy, especially during a freeze, a cold time that sweeps
the county with ice every few years. When Paul goes out to Luis family s field to help, Luis explains
to him how the tangerine trees are made. This part of the tree is called the rootstock. It is the root and
trunk of a rough lemon tree. Believe it or not, every type of tree that we produce here begins its life as
a rough lemon tree (Bloor 159 160). These tangerine trees represent Paul. He started out scared and
shy. That was like how the tangerine trees are rough lemon rootstocks before they become trees. As he
progressed in Tangerine, he went through lots of hard times and struggles. It seemed the whole world
was against him. That was the freeze for the trees. Then as he grew at Tangerine

Disability and the Media
Portraying The Disabled In the media today, people with disabilities are perceived as tragic heroes or
as medical miracles. They are rarely seen for their intelligence or for their accomplishments excluding
their overcoming disability hardships. The textbook, Everything s an Argument, contains an excerpt
from Charles A. Riley II s book Disability and the Media: Prescriptions for Change. Riley, a
journalism professor at New York s Baruch College, uses appeal to ethos, logos, and pathos to
persuade his audience that their methods of portraying disabled people are in dire need of change.
Riley reports that disabled celebrities are seen as the object of pity, ultimately depriving them of
feelings of normality. As well as pointing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses such diction as allegorical and hagiographer, as well as providing the definitions or
backgrounds of certain terms along the borders of the text. Using such words and providing their
definitions gives the reader a sense of feeling that what they are reading is important. This helps make
his argument effective because the reader will acknowledge the authors good sense of vocabulary and
that alone will show he is even more credible. The author uses this as an appeal to ethos because he is
gaining credibility from his use of diction. One of the appeals that make Riley s argument very
effective is his appeal to pathos. He compares his appeal to how a person with a disability is displayed
as a poster child in exchange for sympathy and donations, bringing her financial rewards of
sponsorships, motivational speaking gigs, and modeling contracts at the expense of being turned into a
latter day poster child (642). This effectively supports Riley s claim because the audience will now
feel sympathetic for the disabled portrayed in the media as someone needing assistance or a sponsor.
Another example is when he attempts to determine how much the media is demeaning disabled people
as a group, It is impossible to know the full degree of damage wreaked by the demeaning and wildly
inaccurate portrayal of people with disabilities, nor is it altogether clear whether much current
progress is

The Incident Of The Guards
It was late afternoon. A typical, beautiful day in Xeno. Until all these men dressed in uniforms came.
Usually when guards come to switch duty there s only a couple hundred. The guards are there to
protect us from attacks. Other countries always attack because we are so advanced in technology and
everything. They want to try and steal what we have, but this was nothing usual. There were thousands
of guards flooding in from left and right. Everybody immediately thought we were under attack, but
the weird thing was there were no alarms or the voice of our President telling us what was happening.
As quick as we were alarmed we all of a sudden felt at ease. Just like everyone else I brushed it off as
nothing. That s when it all began.

Mediterranean Harbor by Adam Pijnacker
Mediterranean Harbor is a painting of a ship on a harbor with various people gathering and packing
packages. The painting was painted in the 1600s by Adam Pijnacker. Behind the ship is the ocean and
the sky. The sky covers most of the top of the painting making it a main focal point in the painting.
The middle of the sky is a clear blue while both the left and the rights sides are covered with brownish
grey clouds. The lower left side of the sky also has some orange colorage. This is because the sun is
setting behind it, therefore, the time of day this painting is set in a sunset. In front of these clouds is a
dark ship decorated with gold design. The ship s size makes it a main focal point of the painting. ...

anyone else. He is also carrying a sword around his waist. His face is not shown, but by the position of
his body it seems that he is looking out at either the ship or the horizon behind it. There are a couple
people in front of him who seem to be fixing packages and tending to a large horse at the right of the

Introduction Different metals have different mass and volumes. The mass and volume of something
effect the density of the metal. If pennies made before and after 1982 have different densities, they are
most likely made out of different metals. The independent variable is the year the pennies were made.
The dependent variables are the density, volume and mass of the pennies. The controlled variables are
the number of pennies, the instruments used for measurement and the environment in which the
pennies are measured. Objective The purpose of this lab was to find out the type of metal a coin in

A Brief History Of The Greenock Steamship
Appendix 5 A Brief History of the Greenock Steamship Company, the Gulf Line Association, and their

Firth of Clyde. Historically it had largely been a fishing town, but the construction of a harbour in
1714 marked the be ginning of its transformation into one of the key ports on the Clyde. Throughout
the 18th and early 19th centuries, a large fleet of sailing ships came to call Greenock home. Greenock
ships had distinguished themselves in the China tea trade, trade with the East Indies, Australia, and
California, and in the conveyance of timber from the St Lawrence River in North America. Many of

The advent of the screw propeller changed all of this and made steamers increasingly viable. Though
she still bore sails, Archimedes was the world s first screw propelled steamship. Built in 1839 in
Britain, she had considerable influence on the development of ships and shipping in the years to come.
Despite the advances in steam technology, however, sailing ships continued to dominate the world s
oceans for many years to come. Unlike steamers they did not depend on the availability of coal and
were simply much cheaper to run. This was particularly evident in voyages to the Far East, reached
from Europe via the Cape of Good Hope at Africa s south ern tip and from America across the Indian
Ocean. This changed in 1869 with the opening of the Suez Canal. As a result of this, the Far East and
Australia were opened up to steamers bearing passengers and mail from the Europe. But the effects of
such developments were not immediate. The continued dominance of sail was obvious nowhere better
than in Greenock. When the Suez Canal opened in 1869, only seven of the 182 or so Greenock
registered ships listed in that year s Post Officer Directory were steamers. In the subsequent years, the
registration of additional sail ing ships by Greenock shipowners consistently outnumbered the addition
of new steamers. One such syndicate of shipowners was William Lindsay and Com pany. The

Owls Prologue
Prologue
Stars twinkled throughout the night. The crickets songs broke the silence, but the silence continued as
the crickets were secretly being eaten by the soaring Owls up above, circling around one particular
spot, a Sage Brush haven, where the crickets sung their songs the most. Using their razor like talons,
they bore down on the crickets, quickly resting on the sturdy twigs close to the endless Pine forest.
The owls panned their heads around while munching on the half alive crickets, but all of the owls
panned to one figure who was silently weaving around the Pine trees. The figure weaved around the
Sage Brush as well, silently hoping not to make any sounds to alert any wandering prey or predators.
The figure was slim and slender, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The, Native American, And Whatever White My Dad
When I think of the word Ethnicity of course I immediately think, Oh I m Mexican, Native American,
and whatever white my dad is. While I do have a darker brown skin I was not raised in the traditional
way it s assumed I was. I am only a quarter Mexican, so I was not raised in a Mexican household. The
reality of it is that I was raised in a small rural town, this particular tiny town goes by the name of
Hotchkiss, CO. I suppose I would say my real ethnicity is Rural Conservative American.
Out of the 900 people that live there the two main career choices are ranching and coal mining. The
town of Hotchkiss is a predominately white town and it is full of conservatives. I was raised by my
Democratic mother (who really is a Republican) and my Republican father, and when I was four my
next door neighbors began taking me to their Baptist church every Sunday.
While I hated living in a small town and I will never live in one again, small town thinking and values
have become a part of who I am. The sense of community in a small town has caused me to genuinely
care about everyone around me. While I do not consider myself to be conservative, many of my
political beliefs do tend to lean toward the conservative side of seeing things. I believe Americans are
ignorant, and I am not ignorant enough to believe that I am just as ignorant as everyone else; but, I
think that being American means standing up for what s right, and not backing down on my own
opinions just because someone

The Reflection Of The Fight For Social Justice
Social justice centers upon the standards of fairness, equality, admiration of diversity, and the
distribution of rights that cover all people. Social justice infers that all people must have equal rights
and opportunities, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or social/economic status. During the 1800s,
people from all walks of life had to deal with some type of social injustice. Whether that be
discrimination against a particular race, slavery, or inequality. Although many social injustices have
diminished over time, it is disappointing to say, that the world is still suffers from injustices such as
poverty, inequality, etc. To achieve social justice, I believe we the people must inquire about what
injustice is active and how it is affecting our community. With that being said, we need to educate
those who are not aware of the injustices that we are still suffering from both locally and globally.
Also as individuals, we can show love to those of other ethnicities, religions, cultures and other
backgrounds that may differ from our own. We as a nation must come together and partake in the fight
for social justice. To start, in order to gain social justice, we must first educate ourselves on the
injustice so we may be able to accurately inform others on the issue. The community cannot make a
positive impact unless we are knowledgeable of the problem. The best way to achieve this goal is by
conducting research, observance of our community and knowing the stats of

  • 2. Aboriginal People After Ww1 The Experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People after WW1 Intro here Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were treated differently before the war and during the war. They had few rights, low wages and poor living conditions before the war. They were not officially classified as Australian citizens, because of the Aboriginal Protectors Act from 1869, which gave the government more control over them. This meant they couldn t go to a public bar to drink, couldn t vote, couldn t be in a relationship with a non Aboriginal person, could not own any property and were not included in the census. When the war started and Australia was recruiting soldiers, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders tried to sign up, as they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Respecting all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people involved in WW1 is difficult, as many Aboriginal people pretended they were from other countries or were of European descent. In other cases, their nationality simply wasn t recorded as it was deemed relevant. As it names are hard to find, many people are trying to get their ancestors recognised in honour roles. In 2007, the Coloured Digger March started. It is held in Redford, Sydney. It is attended by hundreds of indigenous diggers and their descendants to help get them acknowledged. In 2008, the Coloured Diggers project formed the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander veterans honour board. The have been several, smaller ceremonies for Aboriginal servicemen in the past. For example, the Noongar elder, Ken Colberg of the Bibbulumn people, who served in the Korean War, organised the Aboriginal servicemen s march to the Hyde Park memorial in Sydney in the early 1970 s. Ther has also been an informal memorial service several hundred meters behind the Australian War Memorial in the bush, held since 1998. Other indigenous memorials held across Australia include; the Australian Indigenous war veterans memorial in Toomelah, the Indigenous servicemen plaque in Moree, War memorial sculpture in Bondi Beach, Memorial plaque in Rhodes, WW1 memorial, Callan Park in Lilyfield and Yininmadyemi Thou didst fall in Hyde Park, Sydney in New South Wales. • 3. Summary Of Federico Garcia Lorca s Blood Wedding Federico GarcĂa Lorca grew up in Fuente Vaqueros, Spain with a wealthy family in the middle of a poverty stricken city. Lorca always felt out of place, wanting to help those less fortunate and he used many of his experiences surrounding the money gap as an influence over his literature. Also, Federico Garcia Lorca was an openly homosexual man during a time period when traditions and morals were very rigidly followed. In correlation to Blood Wedding, Lorca and Leonardo live similar lifestyles in terms of not following the social normalities and the internal conflicts they have with themselves. Such as, Lorca being a homosexual man and Leonardo s inability to let go the Bride even though he is a married man with a child. Yet, both are expected to be morally bound and consider their families before anything else. Lorca challenges societal rules by exploring traditions, isolation, greed, and man versus self in his literary work. Specifically, in the play, Blood Wedding, Lorca utilizes symbols and minor characters to illustrate the ironic destruction of relationships due to traditions and moral obligations. To begin, when the Bride and Bridegroom are under familial constraints their choice between family and passion is illustrated by the playwright s placement of minor characters. For example, at the beginning of the play the Bridegroom s mother expresses her need for revenge and anger towards the Felix s by stating, My dead are under the weeds, they can t speak, they re ... Which factors affect our hearing in terms of perception of loudness and pitch, and what part does psychoacoustics play in our perception of sound? Then, give an overview of the main historical developments in recording sound. Which development do you think is the most significant and why? Student n°:1104830 Marking Tutor: Stuart Avery Date of submission: 23/11/2011 Word count: 1629 It is possible to explain shortly the hearing process, fundamental for any human being, as it follows: Outer ear As a sound reaches the ear, this gets directed into the ear canal by the pinna, a funnel like structure. The ear canal increases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally speaking, the limit is above 200ms, below that duration, loudness is affected by sound s length. (5) Direction The directional perception of sounds in the space is made possible thanks to a subconscious comparison of the nerve signals coming from both ears (Binaural Effect). The four factors determining such phenomenon are delay time and intensity difference of the signals perceived by each ear, together with phase and timbre. To get into more detail, the delay time, or time of arrival, for each ear, is different whether the sound source is in front of the listener (0ms of delay between the ears) or next to him or her (up to 0.6 ms), while the intensity of the signal reaching the closer ear is obviously higher.(6) The signal perceived by each ear also has a different phase, but only if its bandwidth is greater than the distance between the ears, I.e. below 500 Hz. Finally, the timbre is also important, as the signal will lose high frequencies while reaching the farthest ear. 10

  • 6. Narrative Essay On High School The last bell rang, and all the kids at Southport County High School bombarded the door of the classroom. It was Friday and all the kids attempted to jam through the door at once. Jane, who sat at the back of the class, waited quietly for her peers to leave. When all the kids clogging the door had left, she rose from her desk, told her language teacher, Mrs. Phyllis, Goodbye, and sauntered into a stream of shouting kids. Jane was a petite tenth grader. Her hair was naturally brown and her eyes blue, she was quiet, reserved, and only spoke to her close friends and family. Her mother worked seven days a week at the local diner, Fry Cakes, and her dad left her mother when Jane was merely a baby. Sometimes she missed her dad, even though she ... There were three water bottles and purifying drops. Four sleeping bags, countless cans of chicken noodle soup and three backpacks with one knife, a rain poncho, jacket, and freeze dried food packets. The other teenagers lying on the ground stirred and awoke. The first one to stand was the boy. He had golden brown hair, it was almost blonde, his eyes were a startling shade of green. His features were soft and round, like a child s. Finally, the girl stood, she had long blonde hair and blue eyes. She was also tall and thin. The two could pass for brother and sister, or at least cousins. They stared, shocked, at Jane and the supplies that she stood in front of. Hey, Jane said quietly. So what are we here for? the girl inquired. Jane had figured out that the girl s name was Sammy and the boy s name was Tom, and they were, in fact, first cousins. I don t know, Jane replied, this note was the only thing I saw around this mound of supplies. There s no time for this! Archimedes died in 212 BC during the Second Punic War, which was when a roman force under the command of General Marcus Claudius Marcellus captured the city of Syracuse, which the siege ended up lasting for two years long. According to an account from Plutarch, Archimedes was working on a mathematical diagram while the city was being under attacked and captured. The Roman soldier commanded that Archimedes come with him and meet General Marcellus but Archimedes declined the offer. The soldier did not want to hear it and being frustrated he killed Archimedes with a sword. The account that Plutarch gave isn t very clear, because assumably he may have been killed while trying to surrender to a Roman Soldier. General Marcellus was angered by the death of Archimedes, because he saw him as a valuable scientific asset and he actually had previously order him not to be dead. Archimedes was an incredibly smart inventor and designer of some radical machines. One invention that Archimedes is known for is the death ray. According to the 2nd century AD author Lucian, during the Siege of Syracuse, Archimedes destroyed ships with fire. Centuries later, another writer named Anthemius of Tralles mentions that Archimedes used burning glasses as the weapon. Critiquing Communication and Interviewing Skills Critiquing communication and interviewing skills of a health assessment interview with a client Introduction Communication is one of the basic survival skills of human and also a fundamental part of nursing. Effective communication would help to promote a positive nurse client relationship which is crucial for the delivery of quality nursing care (Sheppard, 1993; McCabe 2003). Health assessment is also vital in collecting information in the nursing process. The pattern named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third weakness observed is the frequent use of clichĂ© such as don t worry too much and that s normal which would give the client an impression that the nurse does not address and understand her situation well. This is because clichĂ©s sounds flippant ,do not always suit the current situation and could prevent the building of trust between the nurse and client (Dewit, 2001). One more weakness encountered is that the nurse might have frightened the client by saying that s serious! and the final outcome of the breast cancer when the client said she had discovered a hard substance on her left breast. The nurse may not be able to handle this situation as the client burst in to tears the moment that she heard the frightening statements. The purpose of the Embargo is to keep sanctions on Cuba should their government continue to refuse democratization and greater respect for human rights. ( 12 Significant ) For decades, experts have argued their cases concerning the possible repeal of the embargo. • 14. Essay about Analysis of “the Tyger” and “the Lamb” In The Tyger, William Blake explains that there is more that meets the eye when one examines the Creator and his creation, the tiger. The character is never defined. All throughout the poem the character questions the Creator of the tiger to determine if the Creator is demonic or godlike. The poem reflects mainly the character s reaction to the tiger, rather than the tiger s reaction to the world. The character is inquiring about the location of the Creator of the tiger when he says, In what distant deeps or skies (5). Surely, the poem is as inspiring as it is ambiguous. Someone that is of no religion would think other wise or maybe someone wouldn t care who made the tiger. Blake uses symbols to express the strength of the tiger and its Creator. The main symbol in The Tyger is the tiger itself. The tiger is formed on a number of ideas, which is the eye of man and God, but it is also a sign of the very same eye, which created it. The word fire is used to exemplify the aggressive character of the tiger, Burnt the fire of thine eyes? (6). The fire can be used to describe the way the tiger sees and is seen by other people. When a person sees or comes into contact with a tiger, the person gets tense right away because we know that one false move and the tiger may attack. This example shows how vicious and hostile the tiger can be just as a hurricane. The Creator could also be described as a hostile person also. This might be a depiction of himself. The sign of fire is leading in the structure of the poem. To know the foundation of the fire is to know the source of the Creator. He relates the tiger s environment to one during the Industrial Revolution when he says, What the hammer? What the chain? / In what furnace was thy brain? (13 14). This tells ... Humans began t o domesticate animals such as dogs, goats, chickens, sheep, and beasts of burden between 10,000 and 18,000 years ago. Many people originally believed that because animals had no souls they also felt no pain; however, this belief changed as the study of animals increased. The first animal protection law in western civilization was adopted in 1641; making it illegal to exercise any Tirranny or Crueltie towards any bruite Creature which are usuallie kept for man s use. (7) In 1789, the English philosopher, Jeremy Bentham, was the first to state that animals have rights. This concept was different from the belief that animals felt pain, in his claims animals deserved basic human rights. This new theory shook the foundation of many peoples belief in what animal rights truly is. In 1821, Maine became the first state to adopt modern anti cruelty laws for the U.S.; every other state eventually passed similar legislation. It still wasn t until the 21st century that lawsuits in the interest of animals became common. The animal rights movement has become most active in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. • 18. John Oliver s Piece On Food Waste While everyone may love to go out and enjoy a fine meal with friends and family, most will never stop to think the process of how the food came about, or the production thereof. John Oliver s piece on Food Waste outlines all the problems of food waste and how they can impact society, animals, nature, and even the farmers who harvest the produce. America and its businesses should try to decrease the amount of food being wasted. By doing so, not only are we a contributing factor to help reduce waste, save time and money, but we are also aiding the less fortunate in a society, while still saving natural resources and the planet as a whole. There is enough food waste in America to fill up 730 football stadiums. Yet, ironically there were almost 50 million people who live in households that are food insecure in 2013. Thus, it is critically important to help reduce (or at the very least reevaluate) the amount of food that is wasted so it can be used to help those who can t always afford it, or, help to reduce the impact of methane released by landfills, or, help to use less resources gone into making the produce. John Oliver starts out his presentation by emphasizing the obsession of food by America and the constant bombardment of food advertisement. Even making it as a part of American culture and the stereotypical representation of America. Commenting on statistics of how much produced food is then going on to landfills as waste. • 21. Vaccine Exemptions Must Be Protected Joseph Mercola in his article Vaccine Exemptions Must Be Protected provides data about the nature of vaccinations as well as current outbreak evidence to support his claim that vaccine exemptions should be allowed. He argues that the immunity provided by vaccinations is inferior immunity (Mercola 6) in comparison to naturally acquired immunity antibodies to a disease produced by the body after contracting a disease. If one ignores the false assumptions about the immune system Mercola s argument appears sound because of all the statistics of failing vaccinations. However, Mercola relies on hasty generalization, the fallacy of reaching a hasty conclusion without evaluating all the evidence, to conclude that vaccines are failing. Mercola assumes that natural immunity is 100% effective and will not fail as vaccine acquired immunity is. Because vaccines are not 100% effective, Mercola argues that people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations. The implication being that submitting to a vaccine that will fail in the future is putting oneself at unnecessary risk. Mercola s argument can be reconstructed as follows... 1. If vaccines are not 100% effective, then people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations. 2. Vaccines are not 100% effective. Therefore, people should be exempt from mandatory vaccinations. The author uses this as an appeal to ethos because he is gaining credibility from his use of diction. One of the appeals that make Riley s argument very effective is his appeal to pathos. He compares his appeal to how a person with a disability is displayed as a poster child in exchange for sympathy and donations, bringing her financial rewards of sponsorships, motivational speaking gigs, and modeling contracts at the expense of being turned into a latter day poster child (642). Though she still bore sails, Archimedes was the world s first screw propelled steamship. Built in 1839 in Britain, she had considerable influence on the development of ships and shipping in the years to come. Despite the advances in steam technology, however, sailing ships continued to dominate the world s oceans for many years to come. Unlike steamers they did not depend on the availability of coal and were simply much cheaper to run. This was particularly evident in voyages to the Far East, reached from Europe via the Cape of Good Hope at Africa s south ern tip and from America across the Indian Ocean. This changed in 1869 with the opening of the Suez Canal. As a result of this, the Far East and Australia were opened up to steamers bearing passengers and mail from the Europe. But the effects of such developments were not immediate. The continued dominance of sail was obvious nowhere better than in Greenock. When the Suez Canal opened in 1869, only seven of the 182 or so Greenock registered ships listed in that year s Post Officer Directory were steamers. In the subsequent years, the registration of additional sail ing ships by Greenock shipowners consistently outnumbered the addition of new steamers. • 32. Owls Prologue Prologue Stars twinkled throughout the night. The crickets songs broke the silence, but the silence continued as the crickets were secretly being eaten by the soaring Owls up above, circling around one particular spot, a Sage Brush haven, where the crickets sung their songs the most. Using their razor like talons, they bore down on the crickets, quickly resting on the sturdy twigs close to the endless Pine forest. The owls panned their heads around while munching on the half alive crickets, but all of the owls panned to one figure who was silently weaving around the Pine trees. The figure weaved around the Sage Brush as well, silently hoping not to make any sounds to alert any wandering prey or predators. The figure was slim and slender, and ... Lea padded in the middle of the golden trees, she turned around as if to expect that her sisters were catching up with her, but they weren t. Lea shrugged and continued on, her paws crunching the leaves as they fell slowly to the ground. I m acting like one of them?! It s getting close to our Ceremony, of course I m going to act like one of them! Of course you don t give two paw fills of elk to care about the Rules and what will happen! • 33. The, Native American, And Whatever White My Dad When I think of the word Ethnicity of course I immediately think, Oh I m Mexican, Native American, and whatever white my dad is. While I do have a darker brown skin I was not raised in the traditional way it s assumed I was. I am only a quarter Mexican, so I was not raised in a Mexican household. The reality of it is that I was raised in a small rural town, this particular tiny town goes by the name of Hotchkiss, CO. I suppose I would say my real ethnicity is Rural Conservative American. Out of the 900 people that live there the two main career choices are ranching and coal mining. The town of Hotchkiss is a predominately white town and it is full of conservatives. I was raised by my Democratic mother (who really is a Republican) and my Republican father, and when I was four my next door neighbors began taking me to their Baptist church every Sunday. While I hated living in a small town and I will never live in one again, small town thinking and values have become a part of who I am. The sense of community in a small town has caused me to genuinely care about everyone around me. While I do not consider myself to be conservative, many of my political beliefs do tend to lean toward the conservative side of seeing things. I believe Americans are ignorant, and I am not ignorant enough to believe that I am just as ignorant as everyone else; but, I think that being American means standing up for what s right, and not backing down on my own opinions just because someone ... • 35. The Reflection Of The Fight For Social Justice Social justice centers upon the standards of fairness, equality, admiration of diversity, and the distribution of rights that cover all people. Social justice infers that all people must have equal rights and opportunities, no matter their ethnicity, religion, or social/economic status. During the 1800s, people from all walks of life had to deal with some type of social injustice. Whether that be discrimination against a particular race, slavery, or inequality. Although many social injustices have diminished over time, it is disappointing to say, that the world is still suffers from injustices such as poverty, inequality, etc. To achieve social justice, I believe we the people must inquire about what injustice is active and how it is affecting our community. With that being said, we need to educate those who are not aware of the injustices that we are still suffering from both locally and globally. Also as individuals, we can show love to those of other ethnicities, religions, cultures and other backgrounds that may differ from our own. We as a nation must come together and partake in the fight for social justice. To start, in order to gain social justice, we must first educate ourselves on the injustice so we may be able to accurately inform others on the issue. The community cannot make a positive impact unless we are knowledgeable of the problem. The best way to achieve this goal is by conducting research, observance of our community and knowing the stats of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
