Sir Isaac Newton is commonly thought of as one of the most influential scientists of all time. During
his life, he was recognized as a mathematician, an astronomer, a theologian, and a physicist. He was
an incredible man who had many great accomplishments during his life. It is said that he contributed
to every area of mathematics that was studied before and during his lifetime.
Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. His father was a
farmer who died before he was born. He was small and weak when he was born prematurely and was
not expected to survive. When Isaac was about two years old, his mother remarried a prominent
minister. She soon moved to live in a neighboring village with her new husband and left Isaac to be
raised by his grandmother. He remained with his grandmother for nine years until the death of his step
