Essay On Ship Of Theseus
I think that the Ship of Theseus is an interesting idea. Every summer since 2002, my family has gone
to Hale Reservation. About ten years ago, I began to take sailing lessons there, and I continued to take
them until I started working there two years ago. Then, I started teaching some of the lessons. During
my time at Hale, many of the parts of the sailboats have changed. They are constantly switched
between the different boats. All of the sailboats are very old, and the parts break frequently, or
sometimes they are just lost. I remember about five years ago, one of the ropes fell off and sank. This
is just one of the many parts that has needed to be replaced. I never realized how frequently the pieces
broke, until I had to figure out what they needed to buy so the boats would work. Although the parts of
the boat themselves are always different, I still feel that they are still the same as when I started taking
sailing lessons there. I feel that they are the same as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I started going there, I was just a little kid. As I have grown up, Hale has changed. The things I
liked to do there, and the people that worked there are two of the noticeable things to me, and every
year they are at least slightly different. Many of the lifeguards that I really liked don t work there
anymore. I know next year, assuming I work there again, will be very different. My brother had
worked there for the last seven years, and for the two years that I work there, he was the head
lifeguard. It is going to be strange with him not there, since he just graduated college and isn t going to
be back. In the fifteen years of going to Hale, he was always been there, either with my family, or
working there. Everything at Hale is changing. I thought it was kind of weird a couple years ago when
someone who used to work at Hale and taught me sailing lessons had to ask me if they could use one
of the sailboats. This really made me realize how much things had

Grigori Rasputin s Influence On Russia
Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, Russia s greatest man in the Early 1900 s. He accomplished many
things in his lifetime, including a good relation with the king of Russia. For this research paper, we
will be going over these topics: his early life, his relations with the Czar of Russia and his death and
afterlife. He was, in short, an astounding man to all. His beginning was like no other. Grigori Rasputin
was born on January 10th, 1869 in Pokrovskoye, Russia with his father, Efim Rasputin. His village,
being in the middle of almost nowhere and around 1650 miles to the capital of Russia at the time of
his birth, had little education. What was there was poor and untrue to certain standards, so he never
learned to properly read and write on his own. His brother, who is only known by Grigori s journals,
had died in a cold river around 1877. After these events, Rasputin became very withdrawn. Some say
that this time is when he started to develop his supernatural powers, which are still ... Show more

In 1916, four of Nikolai s best noblemen begin to scheme about assassinating Rasputin. Prince Felix
Yussupov, the Czar s niece s husband, was the leader of said plot. The men decided to kill him on
December 29 of the same year, right before the new year. Thinking it was just a simple new years
party, Rasputin gladly attended it. However, he and Felix would be the only ones there; the others
would be waiting upstairs for the good news. Rasputin was given pastries that had traces of cyanide, a
chemical strong enough to kill a man five times over. However, the poison never kicked in. Surprised
by this, Felix brought out his gun and started to fire upon Rasputin. He escaped with five shots in his
back but was later captured by Felix and his gang and thrown into a river, bound in layers of carpet. A
few days later, after the new year to be exact, his breathless body was found washed up on shore.

Case Study of Callaway Golf Company Essays
Case Study of Callaway Golf Company
Section I. Summary
Callaway Golf Company began to take form in 1983, after Ely Reeves Callaway Jr. sold Callaway
Vineyard and Winery for a $9 million dollar profit. Shortly after the sell of the winery, Callaway
ventured in to the golf equipment industry and bought 50 percent of Hickory Stick USA. Callaway
knew from the very beginning that this company s profits were limited as long as the product line
wasn t changing. Callaway noticed that most golf equipment had changed very little since the 1920s
and believed that , due to the difficulty of the game of golf, recreational golfers would be willing to
invest in high tech, premium priced clubs if such clubs could improve their game by being more ...

Helmstetter and his engineering team were very important to the execution of Callaway Golf s
competitive strategy. Callaway Golf Company consistently outspent its rivals in the industry on R D
which allowed it to continually beat its competitors to the market with new innovations. (P c210) In
1994, Callaway Golf opened the Helmstetter Test Center located a mile away from the main campus.
The Helmstetter Test Center had two primary uses; it provided an ideal place to custom fit clubs for
the touring pros who used Callaway equipment, and it allowed Callaway R D staff to test new
products in the developmental stage. The development of new products at Callaway Golf Company
not only included the research and development staff but also the sales and advertising staff. These
teams worked hand in hand together. When the R D would come up with a new product idea, the sales
and advertisement staff would look over this idea and recommend changes based on the current
market interests.
Callaway s customer service department was viewed as a critical component of the company s overall
level of differentiation. (p. c215) Even before handling any customer service inquiry, each customer
service representative received eight weeks of training since the entire customer service staff was
empowered to make a final decision regarding a consumer or retailer complaint or warranty claim. In

Professional School Counselors
Abstract
Professional school counselors face countless challenges, such as changes in demographics and
diminishing resources such as time. Simply, School counselors attempt to do more with less time,
while ensuring student success. In this paper, school counselors in training will examine the changes
in capacities, the meaning behind head, heart, and hands of leadership, and the impact of the article on
the future. Keywords: impact, leadership, change capacity, future

In other words, the more transparent one is as a leader the more of an opportunity one has to bring
change. According to the article, Change occurs as a result of leader s actions, behaviors, and
decisions, which are a based on the leader s beliefs and values. Counselors who develop their
leadership from head, hear, and hands are those leaders, who focus on five counseling factors. Thus,
the success of a counselor s implementation of those five factors will positively impact student
success, but then again, if he or she are absent of leadership it will negatively impact student
achievement. The five factors consist of expert authority orientation, academic support, change,
capacity, success motivation, and ethical transparency. In a nutshell, the five factors require a school
counselor to be credible, value change, and support faculty and teachers. As a Leader, you must
possess and demonstrate four types of leadership and successfully implement them. Those four
categories of leadership are school counselors demonstrate four types of leadership: structural, human

I Know The Lord Has Made This Possible For Me
Thank you for this great opportunity to volunteer at Teen Challenge. I know the Lord has made this
possible for me. Speaking of libraries, I have identified some factors that in my opinion can greatly
enhance the use of the library by students and staff members. If I understand you correctly, your desire
is for the library to be frequently visited by the students and staff of Teen Challenge.
The challenge, in this case, is to establish a library that serves the needs of students and staff member
of Teen Challenge. Teen Challenge is a very strong organization by God s grace with very high
Christian, ethical and moral standards. Additionally, it has a space available that can be turned into a
more than adequate reading and studying space.
However, there are some factors that are by nature opposing the achievement of the goal of
sustainability and frequent use of students and staff. Because of this, it is highly recommended that
steps be considered in order to assure success for the present and the future of this very important
project.
Firstly, the designation of a librarian is vital for continuing the duties of managing collections (books,
periodical, articles, newspapers, magazines, DVD, CD, etc.), program development; obtaining,
analyzing and reporting the feedback from patrons. A successful library is one who is able to
determine the needs of its patrons and satisfy those needs and wants by structuring operations
accordingly.
Secondly, a library is no longer a

Treatment Of Veterans In Odysseus
A veteran comes back from the war in Vietnam. Some people acknowledge him for his services and
some people dishonor him for what he did in the war. For example, someone sees a veteran with
PTSD and tells him he is overreacting from what he d seen. In fact, they do not know what the man
has gone through and why he is acting the way he is. In this essay, many people treat veterans with
disrespect consequently as if he or she did something wrong. Returning veterans or people are being
treated with either honor, mental help, or with disrespect but higher disrespect and mental help.
According to the story, Odysseus thinks he will be accepted walking in the castle he once lived in but,

Antinous was the ringleader; we ll make restitution of wine and meat consumed, and add, each one, a
tithe of of twenty oxen with gifts of bronze and gold to warm your heart. Meanwhile we cannot blame
you for your anger. (Homer lines 1453 1463) According to Homer, the suiter s are scared so they treat
Odysseus like the king he is so they do not receive the pain of being shot. If Antinous was still alive
the suiter s would have not treated Odysseus like a king, they would ve treated him poorly with
Antinous. Altogether, treatment of Odysseus shows that after they come home people will treat the
person differently than they did before and they will not have the honor or loyalty to that specific
person. Many years later some veterans are not able to recover from the war and traumatic memories,
even after treatment. In this article, four veterans share their story about what triggered their PTSD
and what they do for treatment. Mercer, Wiry, Leban, and Graves all have something in common, they

Comparing Matthew And Mark s Gospel
Matthew s Gospel was written for a Jewish Christian community. This is evident because Matthew
never explains Jewish tradition. Matthew s Gospel was written in about 85 90 AD. Matthew was
writing to a community in Northern Palestine or Southern Israel. The community that Matthew was
writing the gospel for was in crisis. After the destruction of the temple, the community was trying to
figure out how to be a follower of Jesus without the temple or the land. In the gospel, Matthew writes
about a variety of themes. He writes about the conflict and promises made to Israel. Similarly to Mark
s Gospel, Matthew writes about outreach to gentiles and discipleship. Matthew also includes themes
relating to the old testament, church organization, and final judgment. In Matthew s Gospel, the role
of faith is prominent. In the healing stories, the focus is on the conversation between Jesus and the
person he is healing and the secondary people and actions are left out. In this passage of Matthew s
Gospel, I hope to learn the deeper meaning of the text. I hope to discover ... Show more content on

In Luke s version of the story, he names the town Bethsaida, this is not included in either of the other
versions. Also in Luke s version, the crowd followed Jesus there, but in Matthew and Mark s Jesus
saw the crowd once he arrived and he pitied them. In both Matthew and Mark s passage, the disciples
say to dismiss the crowd to the villages around so that they can buy food and then Jesus replies that
the disciples should give the crowd food themselves. Matthew leaves out the part that is included in
Mark s Gospel when the disciples ask if they are supposed to buy the food for all these people. Then
in all three passages, Jesus looks up to heaven, says the blessing, and then the disciples distribute the
food. Then at the end of the passage, Mark says that five thousand men were fed and Matthew adds

The Pros And Cons Of Political Movements
We tend to think of politics as very contentious. Of course, most controversies we hear about on the
news are mainly focused on politics. Political life can actually be defined by saying that it consists
more of ceremonies, consultations, bureaucratic process, attending associational meetings, and reading
and publishing newspapers, asking officials for favors... (Tilly and Tarrow 2006: 437). Movements
have some similarities with contentious politics and tend to be mistaken for it. But if we look for the
definition of social movements in its historical and social context, we would find that they are defined
as persistent and organized effort on the par of a relatively large number of people either to bring
about or to resist social change (Defronzo, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The citizens. Those citizens need to be unsatisfied about the situation, this frustration is what will lead
them to take the decision to put words into action and look for a change. This lack of satisfaction will
lead to the popular uprising in a country. Then come the dissident elite political movements, which are
the groups that lead that unsatisfied population. These political movements are the results of the
gathering of some people who are against the political situation, especially in authoritarian regimes.
One of the most important factors for a political movement to be successful is that it should have a
unified goal. Having only one purpose that everyone striving for can make a change. Otherwise, if the
population itself isn t sure about what it wants, how can they make it happen? Also, if there is no
political crisis, there is no room for a political movement. Therefore, a severe political crisis will make
the movement act surely and rapidly. And finally, for the political movement to be able to bring about
any change in a country, there must be a permissive world context. International actors can easily

behavior change project focuses on expanding my consumption of all food groups, primarily
vegetables and seafood. Based on a week log of my current eating habits, using super tracker, I am
consuming below recommended intakes in all my food groups, the worst being my primary objectives
(vegetables, and seafood) with near 0 grams of ingestion. This can lead to many deficiencies and
diseases, like malnutrition according to Michelle McGuire, and Kathy Beerman (2006) in their book
Nutritional Sciences: From Fundamentals to Food (p. 30). Based on the theory of transtheoretical
model of behavior change, I am in the contemplation phase (Choosing Health, 2012, by April Lynch,
Barry Elmore, and Tanya Morgan). With advice from Mrs. Ciucci, a Palm Beach State College health
instructor, I am finally ready to make a S.M.A.R.T goal based on my preferences. Using planned out
strategies, I hope to make some degree of change by the end of this year and impact my dimensions of

The Legal Drinking Age Of America
It was a typical Saturday night working as a waiter. The dinner rush had just ended and I was catching
up on some side work. As I am refilling the salad dressings, the hostess informs me that she had just
sat a table in my section. After arriving at the table and introducing myself, I proceed to ask for their
drink orders. The first words articulated out the woman s mouth are spoken with a deep, thick, Irish
accent. I could not help but acknowledge it and after chatting for a few minutes, I come to learn that
they had just arrived from the airport and are vacationing in Florida for two weeks. After taking both
parents drink orders, I ask their son what he would like to drink. Like the true Irish man he is, he asks
me for a Guinness. He looked a little young to be drinking so I asked him for some id. He hands me
the id and it reads that he is only nineteen years old. I had to explain to them that the legal drinking
age in the United States was twenty one years old and I could see the look of confusion in their face.
The father tried quarreling with me that the law was stupid and since they are allowed to drink their
country, they should be allowed to drink here. Little did they know that this issue is very personal to
me. One of my good friends in high school was riding his bike one night and was hit and killed by an
underage drunk driver. The look of confusion was wiped from their face forthwith after telling them
my story. The topic of changing the minimum legal drinking

Rainbow Six By Tom Clancy, And Rainbow Six, By Dmitry...
For many, high school is the last time one spends any large portion of time reading, discussing and
analyzing novels. This means that this is the last chance for these students to develop important
literacy skills. While literacy skills such as reading critically are important, the Ontario Ministry of
Education clarifies that Literacy is about more than reading or writing it is about how we
communicate in society. It is about social practices and relationships, about knowledge, language and
culture, (Ontario Ministry of Education 3). The novels read in school form a big part of learning about
these topics and developing compassion and understanding across society and therefore, should be
chosen carefully to maximize the development of students as citizens of the world. Rainbow Six by
Tom Clancy and Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky should not be taught in schools because they
demonstrate values which do not promote cultural tolerance. They demonstrate negative attitudes
toward the marginalized communities, glamorize gun use and focus only on a man s view of the
world.
Rainbow Six follows a newly instated international terrorist fighting team called Rainbow. The two
field teams that make up Rainbow are entirely made up of men. Their head is John Clark. They live
with their families on a base that employs men and women in positions such as administration, utility
repair and housekeeping. Their first semi mission happens as some team members are travelling to the

Designing A Programming Code, And Oracle Technology As A...
1) Introduction: We create a web page for the SHU books, in this project we are initially approach to
PHP language to create a programming code, and Oracle technology as a database connector. Because
of failure in database connection we can t able to move forward. Then we turn our faces to
HTML5/CSS technologies by this technology we are able to create the body of the project, this we are
shifted to MySQL as database connector but this time also we failed in database connection. In this
project I was involved in to create a body of given task, we taking as HTML5/CSS as front end
language. Firstly we use HTML5 technology to create a static web page, after we are giving some
graphic designs and some moving objects to website by using the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
Firstly we mainly focused on the client requirements according to the project requirements. For that
we worked as a team spent almost more than one and half month to create a webpage. On this process
we tried so many technogies according to the client requirements. As a progress of designing we
divide our work into different frames like static webpage creations and database connections. My
colleagues are also working very hard to reach client satisfaction.
2) Methodologies: Once the choice had been greatly improved the situation method for doing things,
we acknowledged we had three ways to look over
i) Adopt a current system ii) Adjust from a current system

The Aging American Population The American population has changed dramatically over the last
century. Our society has become effected by this in all areas and walks of life. It is unknown what the
future holds for America, but the statistical trends in an aging population may shed some light. The
rate of aging in the United States will increase dramatically in the second and subsequent decades of
the century. Within the United States, the size of the population over age 65 has soared during this
century, increasing from 3 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though average length of hospital stays has decreased for those over 65, their visits to physicians are
over twice as frequent as those under 65. With increases in age, the intensity of using health care
resources increases: Those over 75, though only 5.5 percent of the total population in 1993, accounted
for 28 percent of all hospital days. At the same time, the caregiver population comprised of both the
elderly and non elderly will be impacted by these changes.
Aging is also an aspect of population dynamics that affects the level of poverty also. As fertility
declines and the population ages, traditional family based systems for providing old age care may
weaken, leaving the elderly vulnerable. The income security of older persons is a policy concern not
only in developed countries but increasingly as well in developing countries such as China that have
passed through the demographic transition. Between 2000 and 2050, the proportion of the population
aged 65 and older will have doubled in most developing regions. This exponential increase in the
aging populous could leave that generation drastically vulnerable. Not only would the health standard
be effected but also the income producing majority. Forecasts show that policy makers must address
the impact of our aging population in the next decade to stay ahead of the demand on resources
required by a population

Essay On Space Shuttle Disaster
Scared, worried and stress were some of the things that I felt at the time. My friends were doing all
they could do to fix the problem. One was listening to whatever the engineers said while the other was
trying to build a oxygen tank from spare parts we had in the shuttle. It had been roughly fifty six
hours, and we had travelled two hundred thousand miles away from Earth. There is nothing or no one
around us; just a empty, cold, dark void that surrounded us.We were missing potable water, we had
very limited power and we were losing cabin heat rapidly.Another rocket wouldn t have been fast

I wanted to cry, but I had to remain calm as anxiety and rapid breathing would waste oxygen too
quickly. We were freezing and there wasn t much power to keep the space shuttle alive. Because the
fuel cells generated the Command/Service module s electrical power, when the oxygen tank one ran
dry, the remaining fuels cells shut down. The damage to the Service Module made safe return
impossible for us; so our Lead Flight Director ordered an abort to the mission. The brilliant engineers
back at NASA decided to use the moon s gravity to slingshot back to Earth. Desperate and panicked,
my friend sat down to try to remain calm. I never expected this moment to happen in my life. I started
to sweat, worrying because if i had messed up then I would have killed my friends and myself. The
trajectory had to be perfect. If we heading to much to the moon, we would have crashed. If we were
too far away from the moon, we wouldn t have been caught by the moon s gravity.I started to

Why Should Animals Be Kept In Zoos
There have been many discussions about the welfare of animals since the first zoos were created.
Some people agree that animals should be kept in zoo s, they argue that it benefits the animals because
their every need is catered to. However, in some zoo s they are treated the exact opposite of being
catered to. Sometimes the animals are also deprived of a natural environment that the zoo s fail to
recreate. However, zoo s can be helpful educationally to kids. It gives them a close up on the beauty of
the animals, but it comes at the animals expense. Many people argue that they should be allowed to be
kept in the small enclosures because they are well taken care of. This isn t the case. They may be
healthy physically from being in a small enclosure, and not having any responsibilities besides getting
up to eat or drink, but they are being destroyed mentally. Their enclosures are too small for them to
have a normal life. Animals should have adequate space to live and raise their offspring, which means
that the animal has enough space to perform its natural functions, happily. Zoo s do not allow animals
the proper space that they need, thus causing many issues. For example, zoo enclosures for polar bears
are one millionth the size of its range in the wild, which can reach up to 31,000 square miles. In
addition, cramped enclosures for elephants create stress and dangerous situations. This is mainly
because they are forced to be in close quarters with other elephants that may

Organic Compounds
Organic Compounds CH3CH2 O CH2CH2CH2CH3 This chemical is known as butyl ethyl ether. It is
a type of ether that is a colorless liquid and falls within the R O R functional group (Chemical Book,
2012). The compound is extremely flammable, and as such, fire and other safety professionals must
take great care when handling chemical fires burning with the substance. The research shows that the
compound will be easily ignited by heat, sparks or flame, but also that vapors may form explosive
mixtures with air. Vapors may travel to source of ignition and flash back (Chemical Book, 2012). This
makes the vapor from this organic compound incredibly dangerous in terms of fire risk in doors, but
can also cause problems outdoors as well. Fire and safety officials must be careful in enclosed areas.
Often, this flash will spread throughout lower lying areas, such as basements and sewers. Moreover, it
is incompatible with oxidizing agents, making it unsafe to try to extinguish chemical fires of this
nature with water (Chemical Book, 2012). CH3CH2CH CH2CH2OH I CH3 The chemical compound
presented here is also known as 3 methyl pentanol. It is based on an alcohol in the OH functional
group. Thus, it has the functional group of R O H (TCI America, 2012). Along with the other chemical
compounds presented in this analysis, it is extremely flammable, and thus there must be serious
precautions taken by fire and safety officials in order to prevent combustion and when trying to

The Massacre At Wounded Knee Analysis
The Massacre at Wounded Knee First, and foremost, the battle between the white man and the Indian
Nation is a poignant historical portrayal of what took place at the Wounded Knee Massacre. It was all
set in motion in the Moon When the Deer Shed Their Horns , a Sioux moon of December. The Sioux
were so distraught about the assassination of Sitting Bull; they could not muster an uprising. The
Ghost Dance was their only hope to eradicate the white man. There was no hope on earth, and God
seemed to have forgotten us. Some said they saw the Son of God; others did not see Him. If he had
come, He would do some great things as He had done before. We doubted it because we had seen
neither Him nor His works. The people did not know; they did not care. They snatched at hope. They
screamed like crazy men to Him for mercy. They caught at the promise they heard He had made. The
white men were frightened and called for soldiers. We had begged for life, and the white man thought
we wanted theirs. We heard the soldiers were coming. We did not fear. We hope that we could tell
them our troubles and get help. A white man said the soldiers wanted to kill us. We did not believe it,

Description Of A Circadian Rhythm
A circadian rhythm is a 24 hour cycle in the physiological processes of living beings, including plants,
animals, fungi and cyanobacteria. Although they are endogenously generated, they respond to external
stimuli such as sunlight and temperature. Circadian rhythms are important in determining the sleeping
and feeding patterns of all animals, including humans. In humans, the 24 hour cycle is centered within
the hypothalamus, which uses certain cells within the retina of the eye to detect the level of brightness
all around; these cells are called photosensitive retinal ganglion cells or pRGCs. PRGCs send
collected information through the optic nerve to the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), the brain s master
clock; which coordinates smaller body clocks that govern the behavior of cells throughout the body.
The suprachiasmatic nuclei is a tiny patch of around 200,000 neurons. Nearly every cell in the human
body keeps time by its own means; they keep time locally, helping them figure out when to use
energy, rest, repair DNA, or replicate. Taking light as its cue, the master clock determines a continuous
cycle of physiological change within cells; this includes the production of hormones that prepare the
human body for waking and sleeping hours. Interestingly, animals, including humans, kept in total
darkness for extended periods eventually function with a free running rhythm. Their sleep cycle is
pushed back or forward each day , depending on whether their day , is shorter or

Compare Disabled And An Unknown Girl
How do Disabled and An Unknown Girl convey the sense of personal identity?
Our personal identity shapes who we are or shall become, it is how a person sees them self, fitting into
their surroundings. Both Owen and Alvi explore the unpredictable personal identity of a person and
how it changes their lives for the worse in their poems Disabled and An Unknown Girl. The former
poem, filled with pathos, demonstrates a soldier s joyful life prior to and after WWI where he suffered
a devastating tragedy, losing all his limbs, emphasizing his deformed personal identity throughout the
poem. The latter, however, depicts a cultural visitor experiencing India in hopes of fulfilling her
somewhat incomplete heritage (and thus, personal identity), in which ... Show more content on

Power Dynamic In King Lear
In my initial essay I discussed the power dynamic within the family and kingdom, but I never
pinpointed exact moments when the characters losing control became aware of this new dynamic. I
think the performance did a brilliant job of creating statements with costuming when important
moments in the power struggle changed. These bold choices in costuming also helped to explain
instances where the characters had eye opening revelations about what was going on in their life that
they were previously oblivious to. White costumes in this production created a stark contrast against
the black costumes that most of the cast where dressed in, and provided insight into the thoughts of the
characters when they would not always vocalize their inner monologues. ... Show more content on

The next character who reaches this stage of understanding about the significance of their situation is
Gloucester. He changes into his white costuming right before he is blinded. In his blindness he is able
to gain sight about what is actually happening in his life. He finally puts together that Edmund has
betrayed him and the son he exiled, Edgar, was his only loyal kin. The white clothing acts as a flag to
the audience to draw attention to the fact that something has changed within Gloucester. That
something is awareness of his situation, and essentially an epiphany about his sons. Lear also provides
a moment of epiphany with his white clothing, but his moment of clarity is so tainted by the cruel
world he lives in, it becomes his dissent into madness. When Lear comes in contact with Mad Tom, he
starts to realize two things. He realizes how terribly he has treated homeless people, such as Mad Tom,
and now that he is without his land and power and knights, he is now at the same level of poverty as
Mad Tom. All that Lear has known, all of his power, has come to nothing and all he has to relay on
now is his own flesh, making him no more than a mere beast. This realization of his reality becomes
clear to him as he talks to Mad Tom, and so he strips off his clothing to reveal his white clothing, and

Age Related Macular Degeneration Essays
Review: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over the
age of 50. Every ten years after the age of 50 the prevalence of this disease increases exponentially.
Many different factors contribute to the development of AMD including genetic, environment, and
metabolic functions. Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an unhealthy diet low in
fruits and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar inflammatory and oxidative
processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key role in the development of AMD.
This disease affects the central areas of the retina and choroid. In return central vision is impaired
while peripheral vision is usually not lost. AMD is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dry Macular Degeneration: The early and most common form of AMD is called dry (atrophic) or
nonneovascular macular degeneration. About 90% of AMD cases are known to be in this form. This
form does not involve abnormal blood vessels and or leaking of fluid. Vision impairments are still
great and potential of complete vision loss is still possible. People affected by dry AMD experience
central vision impairments, limited area of central vision, and limited vision when in areas of reduced
light. Dry AMD is thought to be the result of the retina breaking down because of the formation of
deposits, known as drusen, under the macula. The macula is a small area within the retina that is
responsible for central vision. It s believed that these deposits interfere with vitamin transport, oxygen
transport, and waste removal in the aged eye directly affecting the macula causing it to thin and dry
out, losing its function. Depending on how severe this thinning and degeneration of the retina is,
vision impairments will vary. Macular degeneration in its early stages is associated with minimal
vision impairments, large drusen, and other pigmentary abnormalities in the macula. Drusen are
deposits of fatty proteins that accumulate below the basement membrane of the retinal pigment
epithelium. People over the age of 50 years have at least one small hard drusen in one or both eyes.
People with large, soft drusen are the ones at high risk for AMD. Hard

As America rises shakily to its feet after September 11th, a man from American Media Inc. breathes in

Gruinard Island was a mess of death and contamination after testing it was indeed the only

refined to its most lethal potential. And, like every great American Research facility, the whole area
had round the clock military security, and every scientist was given a gun to keep in proximity during

and every gallon could murder every human being on earth. Thankfully, itís not an ideal world, and
the anthrax bomb was not perfected. The Institute continued work on anthrax until 1969,

Causes And Policies Of Financial Crises
Causes and Policies in Financial Crises
Financial Crises are well known phenomena in economics history; however, after the Great Financial
Crisis of 2007 2009 the role that Central Banks play in order to prevent Financial Crises has been
questioned. To begin with, it is important to understand that crises consist of highly complex macro
financial linkages that reflect the interactions between the financial sector and the real economy
(Claessens 2012). Additionally, it is important to highlight two different financial crises groups:
Currency and sudden stop crisis, which have strictly quantitative definitions; and debt and banking
crises that depend on qualitative and judgmental analysis (Claessens 2012). Nevertheless, the
interconnectivity of the financial sector demonstrates that major crises are a blend of the different
types; thus, the effects on real economy are larger (Laevene 2008). In consequence, governments and
central banks have the responsibility to develop monetary and macro prudential policies to
appropriately supervise and regulate the financial industry (Norgren 2010). However, central banks
have failed to appropriately understand the main symptoms that precede financial crises: credit booms
and asset booms (Bijapur 2015). In fact, it is essential to comprehend these symptoms in order to
develop policies that strengthen the fragility of the financial industry; hence, upholding stable growth
and inflation.
The last major financial crises demonstrate that the

Gospel Of Luke Salvation Essay
Luke s Gospel specifically shows special concerns for those that are oppressed, looked down upon,
and outcasts of society. Jesus tends to reach out to those people. Why? Jesus is challenging attitudes
that limit God s care or blessings to any particular group or nation. And then proceeds to insist that the
gospel proclaimed is a message of hope for all people. Salvation is a huge part of the Gospel of Luke,
there are a plethora of examples of what it means to be saved. And in the many examples found in the
Gospel of Luke, it is either God/Jesus, or their respective actions that bring salvation. Tax Collectors
fall under that category of those that believed in the time of Jesus that salvation was not quite
available to them.
Tax Collectors were not highly respected in Roman Territories. The people hated the tax collectors for
several reasons. First and foremost, they were tax collectors. And that meant in Rome you could tax
whatever amount you wanted as long as Rome got their base taxes. So often, as I m sure most of you
may know, they would abuse that power and get a lot of money that way. It s like if you got a $500 tax
bill and you could barely pay that, but you understand taxes are taxes even though you don t like
having to pay them. And then someone like Zacchaeus comes along and says actually that bill is

Safety objections come into play when there is a new technology, especially with a product that has an

of choosing in advance their children s traits, may be the ones that are perfectionist (565). Steinbock
states that parents that go to such great lengths to control their future child s abilities would be guilty
of parental tyranny (565). Steinbock declares that even though the parent would be able to choose the
specific talents their child may have, not all children will end up using their inherited gifts (564).
Steinbock adds an example, by cloning even if you choose all of the genome in your child it is not fact
that you will have complete control over the traits the child inherits (564). Steinbock gives a very clear

The Symbol of the Tower of London
Ever since its creation by Gundolf in 1078, the Tower of London has served many purposes. Whether
it was a royal residence or prison and torture chamber, most importantly, it has been a significant
symbol and monument of English history and architecture. A small, modest building, many tourists are
surprised to see the Tower of London, as it is not the magnificent, tall tower they were expecting. For
some years, the Tower of London was used as a royal residence where monarchs would stay for a
night before departing to continue their journey the next day. More interestingly, it was used as a
prison, torture chamber, and execution grounds.
Although, from the outside, the Tower of London is not very lavish when compared with the majestic,
grand, and intricate buildings in England, it was once a desired place for royals to stay whether for one
night or longer. During the time it was used as a royal residence, it was referred to as The White
Tower, and was quite an alluring place. The Tower of London (or The White Tower) consisted of
several buildings surrounded by a wall and mote. Later on after the construction was completed,
Richard the Lionheart, Edward I, and Henry VIII enlarged the complex.
Colorful, pretty, and comfortable, the Tower of London during its time as a royal residence contained
more than just stone buildings it was a center of life. Bustling servants, tradesmen, and court
attendants would hurry around the lively tower, going in and out of the huge kitchen,

Their Eyes Were Watching God Literary Analysis
While reading the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, I examined the motif
of love and free will in which intertwines with the motif of gender roles. As the book prolongs, Janie
is seen continuously searching to fulfill her pursuit of finding the true love she once fanaticized of.
Janie first crafted her own representation of love while stretched on her back beneath the pear tree in
the alto chant of the visiting bees (11). Her young innocence is connected to the intimacy of nature in

profound love Janie and Tea Cake have for one another. Soon, Janie got ready to pick beans along
with Tea Cake (133) because its mo nicer than settin round dese quarters (133). Therefore, Janie now
doesn t mind partaking in manual labor because it s out of her personal choice and love for Tea Cake
whereas, before with Logan she was forced into it causing no enjoyment. Janie learned what it felt like
to be jealous (136) with Tea Cake involving Nunkie and cut [Tea Cake] short with a blow (137).
Instead of fighting back, Tea Cake kept holding Janie s wrists (137), hurled her to the floor (137), and
kissed [Janie] until she arched her body to meet him (138). The resistance Tea Cake displays to use
physical contact upon Janie reveals Tea Cake s patient character. Also, it adds onto the motif of love
where Janie and Tea Cake have equally passionate feelings toward one another such that Janie is
demonstrating jealously which was absent in her previous marriages. Moreover, with the threat of the
oncoming hurricane and the turned down invite from one of the Bahman workers, Janie and Tea Cake
s relationship heightens. The soon appearance of the violent hurricane caused crashing (159), hurdling
(159), and questioning God (159). The hurricane brings the theme of religion where God is mentioned
throughout the text as a sense of hope and faith. However, Tea Cake and Janie realize they needed to
escape before worse things happened (160) causing Janie to soon approach a near death experience.

Essay On Numerical Modeling Of Urban Flow
It is undisputed that numerical modeling of urban flow provides information on the thermal comfort,
ventilation and air quality in urban environments. However, the complexity of real world processes
limits current numerical models to certain simplifications and assumptions. These assumptions, and
their validity for the accurate representation of urban microclimate, depend on the textit{parameters}
and textit{scale of interest}. In the textit{microscale}, one of the common simplifications in
modeling is regarding the urban morphology: idealized configuration of 2D or 3D street canyons are
often used to represent urban areas in order to remove the uncertainty caused by complex (and
random) geometries. Another common assumption is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, a realistic distribution of surface heating plays a pivotal role for thermal comfort and
heating/cooling loads in urban areas. On the other hand, in the case of the urban textit{flow field}, the
instability level motivates or demotivates the detailed consideration of realistic surface heating, as
observed for the effect of realistic heating on the drag coefficient citep{santiago14}. For instance, the
formation of the secondary vortex in the opposing condition is only seen for the highly unstable
regime; and in the weakly unstable condition, the modification of the primary vortex due to the
horizontal heating is less significant. Nonetheless, the roof heating, and therefore the advection of the
warm air inside the building canyon, should not be neglected as it modifies the vertical instability
inside the building canyon, as well as the pressure gradient in the span wise direction. On the other
hand, substantial modification of flow field is observed for 3D versus 2D configurations. In the span
wise direction, modification of the flow due to the combined effect of 3D configuration and heating
distribution is pronounced, where the formation of counter rotating and asymmetric vortices in and
above the canyon are seen. Lastly, when the textit{concentration field} is analyzed,

Bronze Age Of The Stone Age
Stone Age (50,000 3000 BCE) The Stone Age refers to the broad range of pre history which lasted
from approx 30,000 BC to 6,000BC where the first metals started to be used. In the stone age, use of
metals was scarce and the most common building materials and weapons were wood and stone. Much
of this history is undocumented, though some archaeological evidence persists.
bronze ageBronze Age (3000 1300 BCE) The Bronze age refers to the broad period of history when
cultures in Europe, Asia and other parts of the world made the first uses of bronze, from mining
copper and tin. Bronze enabled more powerful tools and weapons. It was an age where the first
writing systems became devised and used.
iron ageIron Age (1200 230 BCE) The iron age was a period of economic development, where iron
and steel enabled a greater use of metal tools which were stronger than previous Bronze Age items.
The era led to developments in agricultural production and we see the first evidence of written
manuscripts, which includes great religious texts such as the Indian Vedas, (Sanskrit), and the Hebrew
Bible.

Gender Socialization
Sociology 100
Before a newborn child takes his or her first breath of life outside the mother s womb, he or she is
distinguishable and characterized by gender. A baby is born and the doctor looks at the proud parents

Another aspect of everyday life that is highly influential in gender socialization is the media. What we
see on television or at the movies, what we read in the newspaper or in magazines, what we see on
billboards or hear on the radio are all very significant on how we form a opinion on gender identity.
Media publishers have very successfully learned to play to an audience and are extremely successful
in communicating with the audience they wish to reach. Advertisers are the biggest example of this
concept. Society is very apt in recognizing images seen in commercials and printed ads and viewing
them as socially acceptable behavior. For example, beer companies will target the twenty to thirty year
old male audiences and include scantily clad women enjoying their favorite beers. Ironically, popular
women magazines also use beautiful women to promote cosmetics and beauty products. Both
examples show the exploitation of female images in society. It is this societal ignorance that clouds the
mind and allows the images to continue to influence what we believe to be socially acceptable. And
when society is presented with something or someone out of the ordinary, which doesn t follow what
we deem to be correct, we rebel and try to modify it to our socially acceptable standards.

Isaac Newton Accomplishments
Sir Isaac Newton is commonly thought of as one of the most influential scientists of all time. During
his life, he was recognized as a mathematician, an astronomer, a theologian, and a physicist. He was
an incredible man who had many great accomplishments during his life. It is said that he contributed
to every area of mathematics that was studied before and during his lifetime.
Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. His father was a
farmer who died before he was born. He was small and weak when he was born prematurely and was
not expected to survive. When Isaac was about two years old, his mother remarried a prominent
minister. She soon moved to live in a neighboring village with her new husband and left Isaac to be
raised by his grandmother. He remained with his grandmother for nine years until the death of his step
father.
When Isaac was 12 years old, he started school at The King s School in Grantham, England. He
studied Latin, Greek, and math there until the age of 17. He briefly left the school when his mother
decided that he should become a farmer, something he was not interested in. She was eventually
persuaded to let him finish his education by the headmaster of his school. While there, he excelled in
his studies and eventually came to be known as one of the best students.

Production Quality And Environmental Management
The definition of precision agriculture is still evolving as technology changes and our understanding
of what is achievable grows. Over the years, the emphasis has changed from simply farming by soil
(Buchan), through variable rate technologies, to vehicle guidance systems and will evolve to product
quality and environmental management. An important effect of precision farming is the high
environmental benefit from using chemical and fertilization treatments only when and where they are
necessary. These promotions of environmental stewardship are key components for the new
approaches in agriculture. Precision agriculture is most often thought of as a method of farm
management that uses advanced technology to allow the farmer to produce more efficiently, thereby
realizing gains through economical use of resources.
Ensuring food security and feeding a fast growing population with limited resources is a major
challenge for today s agriculturalists. However, producers are committed to succeeding by continuing
to develop increasingly innovative and efficient products and solutions to revolutionize agriculture.
Over the past few decades, as larger and faster farm machines have delivered the capability to manage
expanding farms, farmers have, for the most part, continued to treat large fields as uniform elements.
However, a new method of farming called precision agriculture is rapidly emerging. The United States
Department of Agriculture defines precision agriculture as, A

Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis
Treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis: Biologics
A critique of an article published by The New York Times suggests a Breakthrough in treatment for
joint pain of patients suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis. The article suggests that a drug known as a
Biologic taken with Methotrexate may effectively treat pain and swelling symptoms caused by
Rheumatoid Arthritis. Before critiquing the article, it is necessary to discuss the anatomy and
physiology of Rheumatoid Arthritis so you may have a better understanding of the disease and the
possible treatments. Rheumatoid Arthritis is classified as an autoimmune disease; it is a chronic
inflammatory disorder in which the immune system attacks the tissues of the synovial joints of the
individual who is suffering from the disease (Marieb and Hoehn 2013). The attacks cause
inflammation to the synovial joints; the onset of inflammation brings both pain and swelling to the
joint (Marieb and Hoehn 2013). Inflammatory cells appear in the joint cavity of the synovial joint and
release inflammatory chemicals that destroy the body tissue at the joint (Marieb and Hoehn 2013). The
disease is bilateral, meaning that if it affects a joint on one side of the body, for example the left wrist;
chances are that it will affect the same joint on the opposite side of the body (Marieb and Hoehn
2013). Rheumatoid Arthritis is characterized by flare ups in which the synovial joint swells due to the

What Is The Growth Of Poverty In Canada
The article The Growth of Poverty and Social Inequality: Losing Faith in Social Justice by Ann Duffy
and Nancy Mandell displayed many important facts about poverty in Canada. I believe the most
important information I got from this article is how intersectionality largely effects poverty in Canada.
From children to women to disabled, the article showed how each group is more affected by poverty
than their counter parts. I believe it is important to acknowledge the different groups and how poverty
affects them separately, as well as how poverty affects them when they are intersected. Canada is one
of the wealthiest countries in the world, however, many citizens are below the blurred poverty line.
(251). The poverty line in Canada is measured by the LICO IAT (boooook) and the MBM (253). The
resources for those below the poverty line are very poor; food banks and shelters are unable to uphold
the amount of people that are in need of them. (252). Among the poor, many people have paid
employment, however, it is not enough. Poverty in Canada is largely based on intersectionality; how
different aspects of a person combine to form a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These aspects include, increase of poverty if the child is in a lone parent household (even higher if the
lone parent is female), if the child is indigenous, a recent immigrant or disabled (256/257?). It is hard
to think of a solution of poverty that will help people defeat poverty. I believe that if society stopped
grouping people into categories such as female, indigenous, disabled, etc. than intersectionality would
have less of an effect on poverty then it does now. It is important that intersectionality not have such a
powerful affect on people s poverty status because it is unfair to those who are below the poverty line
due to these characteristics that are out of their

Plan of the investigation: This investigation analyses the successes and failures of collectivisation in
the Soviet Union, specifically looking at the impact it had on the peasants of Russia and whether it
aided in satisfying the Soviet Union s economic needs. In order to assess the extent to which
collectivisation was a success, this investigation examines and evaluates the first few years of
collectivisation, assessing collectivisation s impact on the economy of the Soviet Union and the
people, as a stronger economy would greatly improve the livelihood of the masses. Ultimately this
investigation assesses the wisdom of Stalin s decision to partake in collectivisation. This analysis does
not assess Stalin s abilities as a leader, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, the famine is attributed to the poor distribution of grain. Grain was also exported to other
countries during this time, making this a contributing factor to the famine.
Soviet authorities had been well aware of the possibility of a famine, as some had made trips to the
countryside and viewed the lack of seed in the kolkhozes and the decrease in livestock.
Grain production began to recover and by the end of 1934, it was announced that 70% of peasant
households were in collectives rising to 90% in 1936, however the figures never rose to what they
were before the introduction of collectivisation.
Evaluation of sources: The April 9, 1932 letter written by Feigin to Ordzhonikidze (a friend of Stalin
s) is a primary source document containing a letter Feigin wrote on his recent trip to the countryside,
and a doctor s statement on the famine affecting peasant families. This letter was sourced from the
library of congress archives where both the original letter and a translated version are available. In the
letter Feigin discusses the conditions out in the kolkhozes, the diminishing numbers of the livestock
and seed, furthermore Feigin tries to find some solutions to the situation, suggesting some achievable
resolutions. As a primary document the value of this letter lies in its firsthand account of the events
witnessed by the writer, and the facts gathered by the

Religion s Reflection in Architecture
How have architectural styles reflected the philosophies, religions, and politics of various cultures
throughout history?
I would like to focus my discussion on religion s reflection in architecture and hope it will not be too
lengthy.
Religion forms the foundation of cultural identity and has decisively shaped world civilizations based
on differing, but not exclusive, views of ultimate value: mercy and benevolence in Buddhism,
morality and ethics in Confucianism, respect in Shintoism, devotion and mystical unity of divine Self
in Hinduism, obedience and perseverance in Judaism, love for the Creator and one s fellowman in
Christianity, and submission to the will of Allah in Islam.

The product of two streams of development, one in the Mediterranean and the other in south central
Asia, Muslim architecture is fundamentally centered upon worship. At its heart is the mosque, whose
characteristic domes, minarets, and stylized decorative art encouraged contemplation and prayer.
After the destruction of the Temple and dispersal of Jews from Israel in 70 C.E., Judaism focused on
family ritual and synagogues that housed prayer sanctuaries which faced Jerusalem. By the fifth and
sixth centuries, many Arabs respected the non sexualized symbols of Judaism, its ascetic monotheism,
and the Jewish devotion to family life and education. The Arabs called the Jews People of the Book,
and Jews and Arabs lived side by side in peace.

Dwight D. Eisenhower s Refugee Relief Act Of 1953
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States of America. He was a Republican
who served two terms from 1953 1961. When he was President he signed legislations that expanded
the social security, improved minimum wage and created the Department of Health, Education, and
Welfare. One of the social policies that Dwight D. Eisenhower signed was the Refugee Relief Act of
1953, which was enacted on August 7th, 1953. This law is a federal legislation that created a means of
admitting displaced people outside the state quota system on an emergency basis. The Refugee Relief
act gave 205,000 immigration visas. Another policy that Eisenhower signed into law was The
Submerged Land Act of 1953, this is a federal law that recognized

  • 2. Essay On Ship Of Theseus I think that the Ship of Theseus is an interesting idea. Every summer since 2002, my family has gone to Hale Reservation. About ten years ago, I began to take sailing lessons there, and I continued to take them until I started working there two years ago. Then, I started teaching some of the lessons. During my time at Hale, many of the parts of the sailboats have changed. They are constantly switched between the different boats. All of the sailboats are very old, and the parts break frequently, or sometimes they are just lost. I remember about five years ago, one of the ropes fell off and sank. This is just one of the many parts that has needed to be replaced. I never realized how frequently the pieces broke, until I had to figure out what they needed to buy so the boats would work. Although the parts of the boat themselves are always different, I still feel that they are still the same as when I started taking sailing lessons there. I feel that they are the same as ... Many of the lifeguards that I really liked don t work there anymore. I know next year, assuming I work there again, will be very different. My brother had worked there for the last seven years, and for the two years that I work there, he was the head lifeguard. It is going to be strange with him not there, since he just graduated college and isn t going to be back. In the fifteen years of going to Hale, he was always been there, either with my family, or working there. Everything at Hale is changing. He accomplished many things in his lifetime, including a good relation with the king of Russia. For this research paper, we will be going over these topics: his early life, his relations with the Czar of Russia and his death and afterlife. He was, in short, an astounding man to all. His beginning was like no other. Grigori Rasputin was born on January 10th, 1869 in Pokrovskoye, Russia with his father, Efim Rasputin. His village, being in the middle of almost nowhere and around 1650 miles to the capital of Russia at the time of his birth, had little education. What was there was poor and untrue to certain standards, so he never learned to properly read and write on his own. His brother, who is only known by Grigori s journals, had died in a cold river around 1877. After these events, Rasputin became very withdrawn. However, he and Felix would be the only ones there; the others would be waiting upstairs for the good news. Rasputin was given pastries that had traces of cyanide, a chemical strong enough to kill a man five times over. However, the poison never kicked in. These political movements are the results of the gathering of some people who are against the political situation, especially in authoritarian regimes. One of the most important factors for a political movement to be successful is that it should have a unified goal. Having only one purpose that everyone striving for can make a change. This means that this is the last chance for these students to develop important literacy skills. While literacy skills such as reading critically are important, the Ontario Ministry of Education clarifies that Literacy is about more than reading or writing it is about how we communicate in society. It is about social practices and relationships, about knowledge, language and culture, (Ontario Ministry of Education 3). The novels read in school form a big part of learning about these topics and developing compassion and understanding across society and therefore, should be chosen carefully to maximize the development of students as citizens of the world. Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy and Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky should not be taught in schools because they demonstrate values which do not promote cultural tolerance. • 16. Why Should Animals Be Kept In Zoos There have been many discussions about the welfare of animals since the first zoos were created. Some people agree that animals should be kept in zoo s, they argue that it benefits the animals because their every need is catered to. However, in some zoo s they are treated the exact opposite of being catered to. Sometimes the animals are also deprived of a natural environment that the zoo s fail to recreate. However, zoo s can be helpful educationally to kids. It gives them a close up on the beauty of the animals, but it comes at the animals expense. Many people argue that they should be allowed to be kept in the small enclosures because they are well taken care of. This isn t the case. They may be healthy physically from being in a small enclosure, and not having any responsibilities besides getting up to eat or drink, but they are being destroyed mentally. Their enclosures are too small for them to have a normal life. Animals should have adequate space to live and raise their offspring, which means that the animal has enough space to perform its natural functions, happily. Zoo s do not allow animals the proper space that they need, thus causing many issues. For example, zoo enclosures for polar bears are one millionth the size of its range in the wild, which can reach up to 31,000 square miles. It is a type of ether that is a colorless liquid and falls within the R O R functional group (Chemical Book, 2012). The compound is extremely flammable, and as such, fire and other safety professionals must take great care when handling chemical fires burning with the substance. The research shows that the compound will be easily ignited by heat, sparks or flame, but also that vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapors may travel to source of ignition and flash back (Chemical Book, 2012). This makes the vapor from this organic compound incredibly dangerous in terms of fire risk in doors, but can also cause problems outdoors as well. • 19. Description Of A Circadian Rhythm A circadian rhythm is a 24 hour cycle in the physiological processes of living beings, including plants, animals, fungi and cyanobacteria. Although they are endogenously generated, they respond to external stimuli such as sunlight and temperature. Circadian rhythms are important in determining the sleeping and feeding patterns of all animals, including humans. In humans, the 24 hour cycle is centered within the hypothalamus, which uses certain cells within the retina of the eye to detect the level of brightness all around; these cells are called photosensitive retinal ganglion cells or pRGCs. PRGCs send collected information through the optic nerve to the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), the brain s master clock; which coordinates smaller body clocks that govern the behavior of cells throughout the body. The suprachiasmatic nuclei is a tiny patch of around 200,000 neurons. Nearly every cell in the human body keeps time by its own means; they keep time locally, helping them figure out when to use energy, rest, repair DNA, or replicate. Taking light as its cue, the master clock determines a continuous cycle of physiological change within cells; this includes the production of hormones that prepare the human body for waking and sleeping hours. Interestingly, animals, including humans, kept in total darkness for extended periods eventually function with a free running rhythm. Their sleep cycle is pushed back or forward each day , depending on whether their day , is shorter or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Power Dynamic In King Lear In my initial essay I discussed the power dynamic within the family and kingdom, but I never pinpointed exact moments when the characters losing control became aware of this new dynamic. I think the performance did a brilliant job of creating statements with costuming when important moments in the power struggle changed. These bold choices in costuming also helped to explain instances where the characters had eye opening revelations about what was going on in their life that they were previously oblivious to. White costumes in this production created a stark contrast against the black costumes that most of the cast where dressed in, and provided insight into the thoughts of the characters when they would not always vocalize their inner monologues. ... He changes into his white costuming right before he is blinded. In his blindness he is able to gain sight about what is actually happening in his life. He finally puts together that Edmund has betrayed him and the son he exiled, Edgar, was his only loyal kin. The white clothing acts as a flag to the audience to draw attention to the fact that something has changed within Gloucester. That something is awareness of his situation, and essentially an epiphany about his sons. Lear also provides a moment of epiphany with his white clothing, but his moment of clarity is so tainted by the cruel world he lives in, it becomes his dissent into madness. When Lear comes in contact with Mad Tom, he starts to realize two things. • 25. Age Related Macular Degeneration Essays Review: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 50. Every ten years after the age of 50 the prevalence of this disease increases exponentially. Many different factors contribute to the development of AMD including genetic, environment, and metabolic functions. Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an unhealthy diet low in fruits and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar inflammatory and oxidative processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key role in the development of AMD. This disease affects the central areas of the retina and choroid. In return central vision is impaired while peripheral vision is usually not lost. AMD is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dry Macular Degeneration: The early and most common form of AMD is called dry (atrophic) or nonneovascular macular degeneration. About 90% of AMD cases are known to be in this form. This form does not involve abnormal blood vessels and or leaking of fluid. Vision impairments are still great and potential of complete vision loss is still possible. People affected by dry AMD experience central vision impairments, limited area of central vision, and limited vision when in areas of reduced light. Dry AMD is thought to be the result of the retina breaking down because of the formation of deposits, known as drusen, under the macula. The macula is a small area within the retina that is responsible for central vision. It s believed that these deposits interfere with vitamin transport, oxygen transport, and waste removal in the aged eye directly affecting the macula causing it to thin and dry out, losing its function. Depending on how severe this thinning and degeneration of the retina is, vision impairments will vary. Macular degeneration in its early stages is associated with minimal vision impairments, large drusen, and other pigmentary abnormalities in the macula. Drusen are deposits of fatty proteins that accumulate below the basement membrane of the retinal pigment epithelium. People over the age of 50 years have at least one small hard drusen in one or both eyes. People with large, soft drusen are the ones at high risk for AMD. Hard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Causes And Policies Of Financial Crises Causes and Policies in Financial Crises Financial Crises are well known phenomena in economics history; however, after the Great Financial Crisis of 2007 2009 the role that Central Banks play in order to prevent Financial Crises has been questioned. To begin with, it is important to understand that crises consist of highly complex macro financial linkages that reflect the interactions between the financial sector and the real economy (Claessens 2012). Additionally, it is important to highlight two different financial crises groups: Currency and sudden stop crisis, which have strictly quantitative definitions; and debt and banking crises that depend on qualitative and judgmental analysis (Claessens 2012). Nevertheless, the interconnectivity of the financial sector demonstrates that major crises are a blend of the different types; thus, the effects on real economy are larger (Laevene 2008). In consequence, governments and central banks have the responsibility to develop monetary and macro prudential policies to appropriately supervise and regulate the financial industry (Norgren 2010). However, central banks have failed to appropriately understand the main symptoms that precede financial crises: credit booms and asset booms (Bijapur 2015). In fact, it is essential to comprehend these symptoms in order to develop policies that strengthen the fragility of the financial industry; hence, upholding stable growth and inflation. A small, modest building, many tourists are surprised to see the Tower of London, as it is not the magnificent, tall tower they were expecting. However, the complexity of real world processes limits current numerical models to certain simplifications and assumptions. These assumptions, and their validity for the accurate representation of urban microclimate, depend on the textit{parameters} and textit{scale of interest}. Additionally, a realistic distribution of surface heating plays a pivotal role for thermal comfort and heating/cooling loads in urban areas. On the other hand, in the case of the urban textit{flow field}, the instability level motivates or demotivates the detailed consideration of realistic surface heating, as observed for the effect of realistic heating on the drag coefficient citep{santiago14}. For instance, the formation of the secondary vortex in the opposing condition is only seen for the highly unstable regime; and in the weakly unstable condition, the modification of the primary vortex due to the horizontal heating is less significant. Nonetheless, the roof heating, and therefore the advection of the warm air inside the building canyon, should not be neglected as it modifies the vertical instability inside the building canyon, as well as the pressure gradient in the span wise direction. On the other hand, substantial modification of flow field is observed for 3D versus 2D configurations. What we see on television or at the movies, what we read in the newspaper or in magazines, what we see on billboards or hear on the radio are all very significant on how we form a opinion on gender identity. Media publishers have very successfully learned to play to an audience and are extremely successful in communicating with the audience they wish to reach. Advertisers are the biggest example of this concept. Society is very apt in recognizing images seen in commercials and printed ads and viewing them as socially acceptable behavior. For example, beer companies will target the twenty to thirty year old male audiences and include scantily clad women enjoying their favorite beers. Over the years, the emphasis has changed from simply farming by soil (Buchan), through variable rate technologies, to vehicle guidance systems and will evolve to product quality and environmental management. An important effect of precision farming is the high environmental benefit from using chemical and fertilization treatments only when and where they are necessary. These promotions of environmental stewardship are key components for the new approaches in agriculture. Precision agriculture is most often thought of as a method of farm management that uses advanced technology to allow the farmer to produce more efficiently, thereby realizing gains through economical use of resources. Ensuring food security and feeding a fast growing population with limited resources is a major challenge for today s agriculturalists. However, producers are committed to succeeding by continuing to develop increasingly innovative and efficient products and solutions to revolutionize agriculture. The article suggests that a drug known as a Biologic taken with Methotrexate may effectively treat pain and swelling symptoms caused by Rheumatoid Arthritis. Before critiquing the article, it is necessary to discuss the anatomy and physiology of Rheumatoid Arthritis so you may have a better understanding of the disease and the possible treatments. Rheumatoid Arthritis is classified as an autoimmune disease; it is a chronic inflammatory disorder in which the immune system attacks the tissues of the synovial joints of the individual who is suffering from the disease (Marieb and Hoehn 2013). The attacks cause inflammation to the synovial joints; the onset of inflammation brings both pain and swelling to the joint (Marieb and Hoehn 2013). Inflammatory cells appear in the joint cavity of the synovial joint and release inflammatory chemicals that destroy the body tissue at the joint (Marieb and Hoehn 2013). The disease is bilateral, meaning that if it affects a joint on one side of the body, for example the left wrist; chances are that it will affect the same joint on the opposite side of the body (Marieb and Hoehn 2013). From children to women to disabled, the article showed how each group is more affected by poverty than their counter parts. I believe it is important to acknowledge the different groups and how poverty affects them separately, as well as how poverty affects them when they are intersected.
