The Importance of Education Essay
The Importance of Education
Education has always been a crucial part of society for the past centuries. Some believe that our
education is a privilege. Some believe that our education is a right. Some believe that our education
is an obligation. The only obligation we might have towards education is to treat it as a privilege as
well as a right, but certainly not an obligation to have an education. Education has been the basis for
the success we see in our parents, our teachers, and more importantly, ourselves.
Over time, people have considered and concluded that education is a privilege. Education is a
privilege because not many people can afford an education, and we should be grateful that we have
this opportunity that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is true because you cannot be denied an education based on your nationality, skin color, hair
color, or any physical features, even being handicapped. It is the right of the individual to seek an
education, as long as the individual is fully capable financially and mentally. Let say ?Melissa,? a
fictional fourteen year old African American girl, wants to attend Hinsdale Central. A fairly good
school, if I do say so myself, for a student to attend preceding college, as I have. Let?s say Hinsdale
Central refuses to let Melissa attend their school for various reasons, such as her skin color. It?s
Melissa?s constitutional right to contest this decision by the fact that the school denied her
admittance based on her skin color, which is discrimination. However, the school does not have to
admit Melissa, even though she is completely qualified. The individual does not have the right to an
education, but rather has the right to seek and education. The individual can only have a right to an
education if the school offering the education refuses them based on physical features.
What about obligations, is an education one of them? Education can be an obligation in a personal
way, but education is certainly not an obligation to receive in the general aspect. If a person feels
obligated about their education, they are most likely not going to be motivated. Motivation comes
from the parents, the teachers, and the

Benefits Of Airline And Airport Privatization
1.Introduction
The airline industry is governed by a rapidly evolving framework of economic regulation by which
many factors, significantly continued liberalisation and open skies, have caused much turbulence
and uncertainty in this increasingly low margin market.
Although separate entities, airlines and airports are interdependent and could not operate without
the other. A major consequence of deregulation is airline concentration and strong economic drivers
are pushing towards even further concentration and consolidation (Doganis, 2006). UK airport
regulation was reformed with airport privatisation, enabling a long term focus to meet international
demand and to maintain a customer focused business plan, allowing management to monitor and
adjust costs and boost income.
The aim of this report is to examine these consequences, and the benefits of airline and airport
mergers and acquisitions, and will look specifically at the acquisition of Monarch Airlines by
Jet2.com (known as Jet2(b) later in this report). It will also look at similar acquisition benefits of
Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) by Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd (HAH).

Founded in 2003, Jet2.com Ltd is part of the Dart Group Plc and is the fourth largest leisure airline

Finding Nemo Father
In a large variety of media, characters face both internal and external conflicts, an everyday
occurrence that is experienced by all. Typically, protagonists are given a superficial challenge to
overcome. However, as the story progresses, some characters undergo an unforeseen expedition
within themselves. Classic movies, such as Finding Nemo, exhibit this common phenomenon.
Finding Nemo follows the quest of a clownfish as he embarks on the journey to find his son. Even
though Marlin originally sought out to locate his lost child, he soon began his internal journey of
trust.
Marlin, one of the protagonists, is the standard overprotective parent. He most likely inherited his
vigilant behaviors following the tragic incident of losing a great portion of his family. One night,
Marlin and his wife were attacked by a barracuda, leaving Marlin unconscious. When he woke up,
he discovered that both his wife Coral and the majority of their eggs had vanished, with the
exception of Nemo. The son, being Marlin s only source of family, formed a strong and slightly ...

We Shall Overcome March 7, 1965 is known as Bloody Sunday . The events that unfolded on that
day in Selma, Alabama, will forever conjure images of relentless beatings, bullwhips, and tear gas
in the minds of Americans (The Making Of LBJ s Historic We Shall Overcome Speech). African
American citizens of the United States were facing a continued deadly threat at the hands of
Southern Separatists and local officials, simply for the right to dutifully vote. What seems to
prompt action by the United States government is the fact that these atrocities were now being
viewed by the world, for all to see, on stark, black and white television screens. Many call Lyndon

Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial?

Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial?
Volcanoes are wondrous formations on the earth. Humans are fascinated by them but are often
very cautious about volcanoes. They see them as explosive, lava spewing mountains often causing
natural disasters. These are just some of the effects of a volcano but plus side to it is that its
energy can be harnessed. Energy that can be used from a volcano is Geothermal Energy. It is a
clean, renewable energy which uses the steam produced from vents and hot springs near
volcanoes. In this paper I am going to prove why Geothermal Energy is good for the environment
and the society. Firstly I am going to discuss what geothermal energy is. Secondly, I will discuss
the benefits of geothermal energy to the environment. Thirdly I am going to show how geothermal
energy is beneficial to the society around its source. Lastly I will compare geothermal energy to
other energy sources and show why geothermal energy is the way to go.
What is Geothermal Energy?
The earth stores thermal energy within itself, this energy is then projected to the surface of the
earth. This is then released through vents that are close to volcanic systems or other tectonically
active areas. These could be steam vents, mud pots and hot springs. The temperatures used to reach
up to 100 degrees centigrade. This is the most conventional

James Berger s After The End
Reading Response on James Berger s monograph After the End James Berger s After the End:
Representations of Post Apocalypse gives a detailed and broad overview of specific representations
of post apocalypses in American culture. In the three parts of the book, Berger focuses on the
problematic of post apocalyptic representation, representations of the Holocaust and post
apocalyptic phenomena in recent American culture. In the first part, he examines post apocalyptic
representation as a paradoxical, oxymoronic discourse (19) and connects apocalypse with the idea
of trauma, describing these post apocalyptic representations as symptoms of historical trauma.
Additional, he includes the figures of the angel and the survivor in his analysis as post traumatic
[and] post apocalyptic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He uses two novels to better interpret how the traumas of the holocaust are anchored in western
societies and to depict how the end would look like, namely like apocalypses that already
occurred. In the third part, Berger turns to more recent post apocalyptic phenomena of American
culture, analyzing Reaganism as the most conspicuous and politically powerful instance of [...]
American post apocalypticism (134). Reaganism sees America as an already achieved utopia,
meaning the apocalypse has already happened and therefore also traumas were generated, which
were largely disavowed. However, Berger puts the 1960s in contrast to Reaganism as apocalyptic
because of their critique of American history (cf. 140) and additional depicts the social
disintegration of this period as its main trauma (156). The analysis of two post apocalyptic novels
concerning their historical traumas underlines his findings of the third part and give evidence of,
nostalgia, the repetition of traumas and social movements. In the epilogue, Berger finally concludes
that the process of rebuilding traumas continues in American post apocalyptic culture and

Comparison Of Betrayal In The Lion, The Witch And The...
The Betrayal in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the
Witch and the Wardrobe
According the Merriam Webster dictionary, to betray is to deliver to an enemy by treachery , or to
give information about (a person, group, country, etc.) to an enemy . Betrayal is the result of many
factors, including feelings of morality, greed and gluttony, and fear. In The Chronicles of Narnia:
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe , both the original novel and the 2005 movie, betrayal is
exhibited as natural behaviour that can fortify relationships and teach people to forgive. Firstly, The
Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe demonstrates that betrayal is recurrent behaviour that is the

He knows that he will not be awarded with any Turkish Delight, but he still tells that Witch more
information out of habit, therefore betraying his siblings again. He is surprised by the Witch s
threat to the Fox, and his reflexive response is to betray. Similarly, betrayal can occur when
individuals are influenced by strong negative emotions. An example of this is shown when the
Witch betrays Edmund by not giving him what she promised and also causes him to betray his
siblings, all because of a deep fear. She is terrified of losing her throne, so she will do anything
to prevent the prophecy from coming true, including forcing people to betray others. Edmund had
an even greater incentive than Turkish Delight to betray his siblings. He was not on peaceful
terms with Peter, Susan, and Lucy, and his hatred was a large factor in his actions. Even Peter
could see his nasty temper: You ve always liked being beastly to anyone smaller than yourself; we
ve seen that at school before now (46). Due to the number of times that betrayal is portrayed in The
Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the audience is able to see that it can be initiated by a myriad of
factors. Secondly, the aftermath of treachery can include the reinforcement and the development of
relationships. Since forgiveness shows love and compassion, people are brought closer together
than they have been before. For instance, in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the

Taking a Look at Lactation
Lactation, as well as the mammary glands by which mothers provide their young with milk, have
long been regarded as an exclusive and defining trait of the vertebrate class Mammalia. In fact,
Linnaeus himself outfitted our own phylogenetic class with this name because they possess
mammae (Gregory 1910). How such complex methods of delivering nourishment to young
evolved in the first place has always been a hotly contested topic. Breasts, teats, and nipples are all
soft tissue, so they cannot be directly observed in the fossil record. What original structures
evolved into mammary glands? Did all mammals have them? Is it possible that our reptilian
ancestors (or rather, our common ancestor with modern reptiles) also lactated? This paper examines
the work of paleontologists, evolutionary biologists, and geneticists of the last 120 years to try to
gain some insight into these questions, and whether they can ever be truly answered.
Before delving into the origins of lactation, one must understand the basic progression of
mammalian evolution from our last common ancestor with reptiles to the modern placental mammal
. The last common ancestors diverged into two groups: synapsids and sauropsids. Synapsids are
the ancestors of mammals and their extinct relatives (often called mammal like reptiles) while
sauropsids went on to become reptiles and birds (Oftedal 2002). The two clades were distinguished
by characteristics of their skulls. Synapsids branched out into many different types,

Shoplifting Techniques Used By Shoplifters
9.16.What are the shoplifting techniques used by shoplifters?
Shoplifters use a variety of techniques, such as boosters, blockers, sweepers, walkers, diverters, and
wearers.
Boosters are shoplifters who shove merchandise into concealed areas of parcels, and booster boxes
are carefully construct that appear authentic, tightly wrapped packages, but which contain trap
doors that allow the shoplifters to slip merchandise into the boxes quickly and easily.
Blockers are to obstruct the vision of the store personnel while they or a partner shoplifts by simply
stands between the salespersons and a shoplifting partner.
Sweepers are simply brush merchandise off the counter into a shopping bag or some other type of
container. They typically reach over a counter and apparently, to examine a piece of merchandise
but in the process of bringing their arm back they sweep merchandise off the counter and into the
container.
Walkers are shoplifters who have perfect the technique of walking naturally while carrying
concealed merchandise between their legs. Shoplifters who have developed this skill are capable
of carrying merchandise both small items and large items such as personal care products, wines
beers.
Diverters are members of a team of shoplifters who attempt to ... Show more content on

store employees to inform such personnel immediately in order apprehensions can be made before
the shoplifters escape. At times if the store security or management personnel are not available, a
good approach to use when stopping a suspect is to speak to the person and identify yourself, then

The Importance Of Physical Beauty In The Renaissance Era
Society s perception of love changes constantly. As a result, poems of different time periods have
different perceptions of love and beauty. Ben Jonson s A Vision of Beauty and Samuel Daniel s
But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again reflect the importance of physical beauty in love
during the Renaissance Era. In the Victorian Period, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt s I See You Juliet and
Robert Browning s A Face continue to reflect society s fascination with female beauty in both a
positive and negative way. In the Modern Period, a shift occurs in both marriageand lovewith a

In his poem, But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again , he focuses on warning women to
find love soon because beauty will not last with age. He compares a woman s beauty to a flower:
the fairest flower that ever saw the light / men do not weigh the stalk for what it was / when they
find her flower, her glory, pass (Daniel 6, 13 14). Through this metaphor, he shows how men
view beauty in love. No one looks at a dead flower and thinks about what it used to be, rather, he
or she looks towards other flowers that bloom with life and colour. This sonnet begins as an
admiration for his subject s beauty, but it ends by telling the subject that when her physical beauty
deteriorates, no one will love her. This poem reflects society s fixation on superficial beauty
because it reminds women that they will never find love without external beauty, as a result of the
superficiality of men in society. Both poems of the Renaissance Period assert the idea of perfection
and the importance of physical beauty in love and relationships. Victorian era poets continue to
propound the importance of superficial beauty. During this era, there was a continual belief in lust
and sexual desires, evident in the rampant disloyalty that husbands showed their wives (Hughes).
Wilfrid Scawen Blunt depicts this continual fascination of lust and beauty in his poem, I See You
Juliet . The

Islamic Sharia Law And Sufism
There are few different branches of Islam but the two most prominent branches are Sharia law and
Sufism. Sharia law and Sufism both seem to contradict each other. Sharia laws are the Qur anic
rules for the tangible world. The law includes predetermined punishment and rewards for actions,
clearly defined by the Qur an. It also has a spectrum of the lawfulness of actions, ranging from
required to forbidden. Sufism, however, takes a more mystical approach to the practice of Islam.
Sufism focuses on rejecting the material world and becoming one with God through self
annihilation. Despite the difference, I argue Sharialaw and Sufism can be reconciled because
although one person cannot practice both at the same time, but both versions of Islam... Show more

For example, if one is accused of drinking alcohol, there has to be a witness to the act just a smell
in one s breath wouldn t be enough to prosecute (Rushad, 534). However, skeptical Muslims
question if drinking alcohol is completely forbidden or only drinking to the point of intoxication.
Some also brought up cases such as someone dying of thirst taking a sip of alcohol. Would this
still be punishable? Problems like these are where Islamic scholars known as Muftis come and try
to give a solution based on their Qur anic knowledge (Hallaq, 9).
Islamic laws can controversial at a times due to ambiguity of Qur an. When Muslims are not sure
about Sharia law they usually ask a Mufti. Mufti, after considering the issue, then issue a Fatwa,
a legal answer to a question a Mufti was asked to address (Hallaq, 9). For example, theft is
committed when something is taken from its appropriate safe place. One might ask what is
considered a safe place and Muftis will issue a Fatwa identifying what qualifies as a safe place.
Muftis determines punishment for Hudud based on the Qur an (citation). For example, the
punishment for theft is the cutting off of one s hand, which raises the question of what is
considered a hand. Is it up to one s wrist, up to one s elbow, or up to one s shoulder? Given the
vagueness of the Qur an, Muftis will study it thoroughly before issuing a Fatwa. While Muftis place
much emphasis on textual analysis of the

Arthur not just as a hero, but a tyrant as well. According to Gildas, Arthur is spoken of as a tyrant,

Just this one quote explains that King Arthur was real, even if he was not the angel everyone

Topic : Binomial Poisson and Normal.
Please mention The Measures of central tendency
The use of these distributions (in which cases these distributions are used) with illustrations.
Binomial approximation to the normal distribution.
What is Skewness and Kurtosis? How it is used and interpreted?
Binomial Distribution :
This kind of distribution is applied to single variable discrete data where results are the number of
successful outcomes in a given scenario.
E.g. :
no. of times the lights are red in 20 sets of traffic lights,
No of students with green eyes in class of 40,

Normal Distribution:
The normal distribution is a very common continuous probability distribution. Normal distribution
is important in statistics and is often used in the natural and social sciences to represent real valued
random variables whose distributions are not known.
This distribution is useful because of the central limit theory. In its most general form, under some
conditions which include finite variance), it states that average of random variables independently
drawn from independent distributions converge in distribution to the normal, that is, become
normally distributed when the number of random variables is sufficiently large.
The normal distribution is sometimes informally called the bell curve. However, many other
distributors are bell shaped( such as the Cauchy, students and logistic distribution).
Measure of Central Tendency :
The Mean, Median and Mode are all valid measures of central tendency, but under different
conditions, some measures of central tendency become more appropriate to use than others.
Mean
The Mean is essentially a model of your data set. It is the value that is the most common.
However, Mean is not often one of the actual values that you have observed in your data set, but it
has one of its important properties is that it maximizes error in the prediction of any one value in
your data set. That is, it is the value that produces the lowest amount of error

James Mcpherson s Antebellum Southern Exceptionalism
Throughout the course of history, one of the most pivotal points was the American Revolution.
The independence the colonies gained from England allowed for the creation of the way we live
today. However, it is important to know that while some aspects of our country today are based
on rules set during the revolution, America, as we know it today, was shaped drastically by the
Civil war. The Civil war acted as a second revolution in our country, pushing us closer to how
society is now. Historians have wondered what caused the Civil War, was it a matter of slavery?
Politics? Or another underlying issue? Historians such as James McPherson, William Gienapp, and
Susan Mary Grant have explored events that occurred before the Civil war and ultimately describe
why the South succeeded. In McPherson s Antebellum Southern Exceptionalism essay, it is noted
that the argument is focused on the fact that although the South was seen as different and
exceptional, it was actually the North who had been changing. The South was only keeping the
same values and traditions it had been following for years (McPherson 41). One instance where
the North s change is noted is when McPherson demonstrates the percentage of agricultural work in
the North and South; In 1800, 82 percent of the Southern labor force worked in agriculture
compared with 68 percent in the free states. By 1860 the Northern share had dropped to 40 percent
while the Southern proportion had actually increased slightly, to 84

Smart Lunch In High School
Have you ever thought of the Hoggard cafeteria building as being a jungle you have to fight your
way through every day just to get a bite to eat? SMART lunch should be a time to study, do
homework, or relax. But how can I focus with people stomping down the hall like a herd of
elephants or screeching like chimps fighting for the ripest banana? My only escape is the chorus
room but even the short fifty foot walk down the hall is unnecessarily difficult and sometimes
dangerous. One day in particular almost pushed me over the edge. As usual, the building was
chaos forcing me to weave and dodge through the crowd but as I turned the corner to head
towards the chorus room my path was deliberately blocked. Kids were standing shoulder to
shoulder laughing refusing to let me past. When I asked them to move they laughed and said, what
s the password . I finally managed to push past them but one of them tripped me making me spill
my lunchall over the floor. One of the lunch ladies saw what happened and let me get more food

The Book Of Job Is One Of The Writings
The Book of Job is one of the writings of the Hebrew Scriptures. It is renowned for its use of
lyrical poetry, sharp rhetoric, and distinct characters. It begins and ends with prose, while the bulk
of the story is told through poetic dialogue. The text is considered to be the locus classicus on the
contemplation of evil given the presence of an all powerful Godthat is good. This question of evil
is often referred to as theodicy, an amalgamation of the Greek words for God and trial . The
quotation For he is not a man, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial
together. There is no umpire between us who might lay his hand upon us both (Job 9:32 33)
acknowledges the fundamental distinction between God and man; the impossibility of man
contending with God; and the lack of an arbitrator capable of mediating divinity.
The cardinal difference between God and man is that God is omnipotent, while man is impotent. It
is worth noting that the line separating God and man is definitive up until the coming of Christ,
which seems to be foreshadowed in the Book of Job. Job s suffering helps him comprehend that
God is an intangible force that he can never be equal to. In order to understand how man could
forget one s insignificance next to God, it is useful to gain some context. Man was indubitably the
peak of creation: the final being, brought into existence to rule over the Earth. In Genesis 1, verse

Evaluate the view that the ability of firms to exploit their customers depends on the price

Gravimetric Determination of Calcium
Gravimetric Determination of Calcium ABSTRACT Determining the mass of a pure
compound is a method of a gravimetric analysis. One of the gravimetric analyses is the
precipitation; it is a method of separating the analyte from the unknown sample as a precipitate
where it will be filtered and converted into a known composition that can be weighed to
determine its mass (Skoog et al, 2013). Determining the mass of calcium by using gravimetric
analysis was the objective of the experiment. A 25 mL of unknown sample was used to analyze
its calcium component. This sample was diluted with 25mL of distilled water in a beaker. It was
converted into a soluble precipitate by adding 25 mL of ammonium oxalate solution and 15 g of
solid urea. Since... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We made sure to rinse the glass rod before removing it to the beaker. Then we added up 15 g of
solid urea to each sample. We boiled the solution for 30 minutes up until the indicator turns
yellow. After boiling, we filtered it each through a funnel. The remaining solid from the beaker
will be transfer to the funnel by adding 3mL of ice cold water to the beaker. We made sure that
all of the precipitate has been transferred. After that, we used 10 mL of ice cold water to rinse
each beaker and pour the washings over the precipitate. We transferred the precipitate in to the
petridish, but before that we weighted first the petridish with the filter paper so that we can get
the grams of the CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate later. We dried the precipitate in an oven set at
105oC for 1 hour. After that, we placed it inside the desiccator for 30 minutes to cool down the
heat. Then instantly we weigh the petridish with CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate. In order to get the
weight CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate, we subtracted the mass of the petridish alone from the mass
of the petridish with CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate. And for determining the weight of Ca in the
CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate, we use stoichiometry. We also computed for the average weight of

The First Police Car Two Way Radio
In early April 1928, a couple of enterprising young patrol officers rigged some glass tubes and
copper wire into the back seat of their Detroit squad car, and changed the very nature of police
work forever(Irving, 2016). The first police car two way radio was a giant leap in terms of
technological advancement which promised to improve the way policecould make their
neighbourhood s safer. Gone were the old police phone boxes, as were the foot patrols, it was the
end of tradition that had lasted for over one hundred years. (Harris, 2007) implied that
technological advances such as the telephone and the two way radio helped create the police of
today.
In the 21st Century Policing has evolved to incorporate innovative technology to enhance their
effectiveness. Technological innovations have been changing the law enforcement landscape. From
drones to body cameras to GPS tagging systems and thermal imaging technology, advances in law
enforcement technology are making it possible for officials to enhance public safety like never
before (Seaskate Inc. 1998) to remain effective, Police organisations must adapt to the modern
world and embrace change.
The South Australia Police (SAPOL) is one such organization that is subject to the changing

The issues of Financial Reform within the UN, peacekeeping, and the Veto power are all
interrelated. Veto countries abuse the powers they are given by refusing to pay, or contributing little
to the UN and allowing the weaker countries to do the dirty work. Peace Keeping is, perhaps, The
most important of the UNВ’s duties. But without the funds and equipment of the veto countries
Peacekeepingforces will become only a memory. The main problem facing the UN, despite the
issues with Veto powers, Peacekeeping, and the Americans, is the organization s financial situation.
It has been forced to begin a lengthy restructuring to make it more cost effective due to the lack of
funds it is encountering. In a recent UN report entitled, В“Renewing the United Nations: A
Programme for ReformВ” the UN officials began to address this problem. The report outlined the
course which will be taken in order to balance the budget. Since the organization itself is
completely reliant upon the money it receives from itВ’s members it is almost helpless in its
hopes to move forward. The only way of punishing members who do not pay is to kick them out of
the organization and cut off the benefits they receive. The current financial reform of the UN is
very complex. It will involve, for the most part, cuts in employeeВ’s and an increased efficiency
from itВ’s four departments. These departments being Peace and Security; Economic and Social
Affairs; Development Co operation; and Humanitarian Affairs.

Disadvantages Of Using Marijuana
There are many advantages of using soil for growing marijuana. It is a natural medium, and
therefore most growers already have the experience of using it to grow other plants, such as
tomatoes. Growing in the soil is a natural option for most people, especially if they are used to
gardening where soil is used extensively.
Irrigation is also easier to perform in the soil, because it can tolerate novice mistakes. It can be
difficult to correct a wrong water dose when using other hydroponic systems. It is also easy to
perform the right fertilization, as help is easily available for using the soil medium.
Another advantage is that the use of slightly different soil mixtures has the ability to alter the taste

Different environments and soils have their particular characteristics, which makes it nearly
impossible to follow a pattern. Water is essential for moving the necessary nutrients through the
roots of the plant to where they are required for forming the flowers.
Environment is a key element for water, because hot environments may require more water while
the cool environments call for using less water. Water is also essential for cooling the plant through
the process of transpiration.
More importantly, water is required by the plants to carry out photosynthesis. As a general rule,
your soil should feel moist to the touch, but should not water your fingers. The presence of excess
water is often a recipe for attracting fungi and other plant attackers.
Plant containers should be selected for providing the right amount of breathing for the plant, which
makes fabric pots the most ideal container. You can also use pots that contain drainage holes and
saucer plates in order to catch the draining water.
You should always ensure that drainage is possible, as otherwise, the pH of the stagnant water will
change, causing a nutrient deficiency. Sitting water often attracts the buildup of molds, and bugs

Examples Of Hegemonic Masculinity
Writing Assignment 5
In gender studies, hegemonic masculinity is the norms and values upheld as an ideal for all
males. The concept of hegemonic masculinity was proposed first from a field study in Australian
high schools of social inequality by Kessler. (Kessler et al. 1982) The concept was later made
popular by sociologist R.W. Connell. All men are upheld to the image of being the strongest and
most aggressive, and to hold the power over women and other men. What do males have that lead
them to commit more crime? That question has been noted for years, but no one can pinpoint the
exact answer. Some sociologist denote masculinity to the answer of the previous question. From a

In The Circular Ruins, Borges audience tries to understand the origin of the dreamer. When the

The issue is that in Windows, icons are executed from modules (either executables or dynamic
link libraries). In fact, .CPL files are actually DLLs. Because an attacker could define which
executable module would be loaded, an attacker could use the .LNK file to execute arbitrary
code inside of the Windows shell and do anything the current user could [2]. The first patch
released August in 2010, Microsoft put in an explicit whitelist check with MS10 046. Once
installed, it intended to ensure that only approved .CPL files should have been used to load non
standard icons for links. This patch failed and for more than four years, all windows files have

its recent rediscovery, it is unknown if other groups discovered and exploited the vulnerability in

The Effects of Different Temperatures on the Reaction Rates of Enzymes B. Introduction
/ Background Enzymes are proteins that are in every living organism. Cells need them to survive
and to function. Enzymes are catalysts that help to speed up the rate of reactions that otherwise
would take longer periods of time to occur. However they do not change during the reaction. A
chain of amino acids forms them. There are over a hundred different enzymes in the human body.
Each enzyme is responsible for a certain reaction that occurs in the cell. For instance, the
enzymes in our stomach cut food into small enough particles so it can be converted into energy,
which our bodies will later use. Without enzymes human wouldn t be able to breathe, eat, drink
or digest food. There are 3 main types of enzymes: metabolic enzymes, food enzymes and
digestive enzymes. Metabolic enzymes exist throughout your whole body from your organs to
your blood to inside your bones. This enzyme is essential for the growth of new cells and
maintaining new tissue. Food enzymes exist in raw food. However if the raw food is cooked
the high temperature that is involved in cooking the food will destroy the enzyme. The organs in
our bodies make digestive enzymes. This enzyme plays a major role in digestion. When we eat
raw food we don t need additional enzymes because the raw food already contains them. If we eat
a salad than there are enzymes in the salad that help break

The Concept Of Collaboration Within The Organization
Introduction
Interagency collaboration is the modern concept of collaboration in which different organization
within and outside of government work together towards a common objective. Collaboration
involves all the organizations and agencies in the advancement of the common agenda, and it has
been the real catalyst for development (Finn Kohler, 2009). Different programs have been initiated
to ensure that agencies can collaborate and work together to enhance social, economic and political
development. Agencies can collaborate at different levels ranging from exchange of information,
coordination, cooperation and collaboration and all the levels of collaboration focus on working
together to achieve common objectives (Noonan Morningstar, 2008). At the basic level, the issue of
collaboration has no single comprehensive definition, but generally, it refers to the joint action in
different organizations in an effort to articulate for a common objective. Inter agency collaboration
aims to bring together agencies, service providers, and workforces to form temporary of long
lasting partnerships that can enable sharing of resources to reduce the overall costs for program
implementation and increase efficiency. Interagency collaboration is the only approach to enhance
sharing of duties and responsibilities in program implementation. The study aims to show the
collaboration between the Illinois Community College Board and the Division of Humans capital

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dentures

These days, dentists use a variety of restorations to correct a patient s teeth and make his smile

complicated and take weeks and even months to complete. Since some procedures like dental
implants can be considerably expensive, not all people are lucky to have fixed their teeth.

Dentures, which are removable artificial teeth, always need a fixative such as an adhesive paste or
wafers to be held in place.
Applying adhesives is generally not a pleasant experience as in addition to the bad taste the pasty
substance produces uncomfortable feeling in the mouth.
Also, the bond between gum and denture is not always secure and dentures often slip and move
around when you laugh, cough, or eat, causing you a great deal of discomfort and embarrassment in
social or public situations.
Your gums and jawbone that supports the dentures are gradually eroded over a period of time and
the device may not fit as well as it initially used to.
Denture looseness and slippage can lead to gum irritation and sores, prompting you to return to the
dentist for necessary adjustments.
If poorly fitting or worn dentures are not replaced in time, they can lead to mouth sores, infections
or problems with eating and speech.
When a new set of dentures is inserted in the mouth it may feel a little odd and cause increased
salivary secretions but these problems will diminish as your mouth gets adjusted to this

specified number of shares of stock. The conversion ratio measures the number of shares of stock
for which each bond may be exchanged. Stated differently, the market conversion value is the
current value of the shares for which the bonds can be exchanged. The conversion premium is the
excess of the bond value over the conversion value of the bond. The conversion option in a
convertible bond is equity.
9
Convertible Bond Value and the Conversion Option
10
Determinants of Value of Conversion Option l The conversion option is a call option on the
underlying stock, and its value is therefore determined by the variables that affect call option values
the underlying stock price, the conversion ratio (which determines the strike price), the life of the
convertible bond, the variance in the stock price and the level of interest rates.
11
Factors in Using Option Pricing Models to Value Convertibles and Warrants l Option pricing
models can be used to value the conversion option with three caveats
conversion options are long term, making the assumptions about constant variance and constant
dividend yields much shakier, conversion options result in stock dilution, and conversion options
are often exercised before expiration, making it dangerous to use European option pricing

Advantages Of Two Party System
What is a party system? In Party and Party Systems , G. Sartori described it as the systems of
interactions resulting from inter party competition. Two party system in the other hand is a method
where two major political parties dominate a government. Among these two parties, one party holds
the majority of the legislation and it is referred as the majority party while the other party is
referred as the minority party. Other parties might exist but they have no political influence. For the
system to work, after an election, a sufficient working majority must be obtained by one of the
parties and it must be in a position to be able to govern without the support from the other party. In
another word, it must be independent. Therefore, it is expected to have a rotation of power... Show

An example that we can refer to as a successful two party country would be the United States, in
which the majority elected officials are either Democrats or Republicans. The same two parties,
have constituted the American two party system since the Civil War. Hence, the competition of the
two parties has been consistently close ever since. It is said that, Americans believe that the two
party system is the best method yet contrived for assuring freedom of political opposition and for
organizing power and the transfer of power. (Dickinson, 1964) which shows the strong stand of
system in that society at that time. By practising two party system, the United States have achieved
political stability and have created harmonious competition between two major political parties.
Thus, this system also offer other beneficial impacts such as it helps in presenting readily
understandable political information, providing check and balance and discouraging sudden shifts

Why Do People Immigrate To Canada
Introduction
Throughout many years, people from various countries throughout the world have immigrated to
other countries for their own life necessities. Some countries provide a minimize of the things
people need, so they come to the conclusion that finding another home with better options might be
better for their lives. The United States having the most immigrants with 44 million, and Ukraine

Other countries have high unemployment rates whereas Canada has strong economic freedom
with a score of 79.1. This means that Canada provides freedom to its citizens to work in any
aspect they wish to work as long as they qualify. Canada does not discriminate against people
when it comes to job opportunities. All citizens have an equal opportunity towards employment.
Throughout many years since World War 2, agriculture production was more efficient, and
manufacturing and services grew rapidly. This is a pull factor because when you live in an area
without these things, you grow into not loving where you are and feel like you should live in an
area provided with a better sense of economy. Living in a country where the growth of agriculture
and manufacturing industries is growing so rapidly, allows for many job opportunities for those
living in the country. Canada has a numerous amount of job opportunities leaving almost every
citizen with a job when they require one. Recently, the minimum wage for employment also has
gone up to $11.00 an hour. This shows that Canada is willing to make those changes to their
employment rates according to the economy in order to allow everyone to live a stable

The Treatment of Whistleblowers Essay
It used to be that whistleblowers were applauded, and they still are in the private sector, but it
seems as if government whistleblowers are criticized and many are even criminally charged.
There is certainly a different take on their activities. In fact, some advocates counsel federal
employees not to come forward with information because if they do, their lives will be destroyed
(Shulman, 2007). What often happens is that they will never be able to work in their careers again
in the same capacity (Shulman, 2007). Many whistleblowers not only lose their jobs, but they lose
their families and friends, and much of their money ends up going to attorneys (Shulman, 2007).
Indeed, in today s day and age, there is a surge of whistleblowers... Show more content on

It can take awhile for someone to speak up, and the hesitancy is largely due to a corporate culture
that does not support the practice. It should be noted that there are whistle blowing statutes in
many jurisdictions where an employee is allowed to report illegal activity and will be protected
from being fired (Larson, 2003). Indeed, whistle blowing is largely encouraged in society in
general as the government wants people to come forward when the giants of Corporate America are
doing something bad. Of course, when it comes to leaking government secrets that is a different
matter entirely. The National Whistleblowers Center says that under Section 403 of the Intelligence
Authorization Act, the head of an employee s agency may accuse a whistleblower of leaking
classified information (Burghardt, 2011). If this were to occur, the simple accusation could lead
to the individual s blocking of access to federal pensions, and this is true even if they are in
retirement (Burghardt, 2011). One case that involves a whistleblower who has been ostracized is
Thomas Drake. Drake is a former National Security Agency (NSA) employee (Bishop, 2011). The
government pursued him for years, and eventually he would plead guilty to just one misdemeanor
in that he used a computer without authorization (Bishop, 2011). What did Drake do exactly? Why
is he considered to be a whistleblower and why has he been persecuted by the government? Drake

Similarities Between John Smith And William Bradford
Smith vs Bradford
Both John Smith and William Bradford journeyed to the New World during the time of America s
colonization in the early 1600s. These two men recorded their experiences during the voyage to
share with people back in their home country of England. While Smith and Bradford traveled to the
same place, their accounts were extremely dissimilar from each other. John Smith s General History
of Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles describes America as an agriculture and livestock
rich area with endless opportunity. On the other hand, in Of Their Voyage, And How They Passed
The Sea; And Of Their Safe Arrival At Cape Cod, William Bradford stresses the hardship faced that
extended past the voyage and the painstaking work that goes into colonization. Although Smith and
Bradford s accounts have some similarities, the idea of the American dream is strengthened by
Smith and threatened by Bradford. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith s written experience of the New World is often viewed as propaganda due to his account
only listing positive aspects of living in America. But, his strategy proved successful as more
hard working Englishmen began to travel to America to colonize as a result of John Smith s
account. In his writing, initially he talks about the great abundance of fruits and livestock
available to show potential colonists that hunger would never be an issue in the New World. Also,
his general satisfaction with the land s fertility and the convenience of nearby bodies of water is
explained throughout the work. These are important factors for a British society to have since,
around this time, long distance trading became a new way to conduct business. Smith even goes
further and states that there is no need for trading outside of the colonies as America has everything
one would ever desire within 100

An Education Is More Important
An Education is More Important In the world, there are over a thousand professional athletes.
There are only a handful of these player that have a four year college education. The National
Football League (NFL); they draft two hundred and fifty six college athletes. Hickman stated
that five out of ten NFL players have a college degree. This is one of the higher percentage for
professional athletes having a college degree. To declare for the NFL a player must complete two
years of college football. This rule pushes athletes to get classes at a college, but does not give them
a full education. The National Basketball Association(NBA) is like the NFL, but different in ways.
The NBA draft only has two round and thirty picks. That means each team gets two picks. An
athlete must play one year of college basketball before entering the NBA draft. Since this rule
has been enforced; the one and done players has been a problem. One and done means, A great
basketball player will only stay one year with their college team; Then he will enter the draft the
next year. This is leaving NBA player with only one year of college education. Hickman stated
twenty one percent of the NBA has a full College education. The MLB (Major League Baseball
Association) is one of the worst at athletes having a full college education. There are thirty two
major league teams. Each major league team has six minor league teams in their association. With
each team having around forty players; that consumes

Cessation In The 1890s
During the 1890s seemed to show cessation in both political and public forms. The presidency of
William McKinley changed the course of not only the United States, but the course of many
other countries as well. President McKinley was the last president that served in the Civil War.
In the year of 1897 the most important issue became the welfare of Cuba. During this time Cuba
was in a constant state of revolt. For ten years from 1868 to 1878 President Ulysses S. Grant and
the Secretary of State Hamilton Fish stayed out of the conflict of Cuba. During the year of 1878
Spain discontinued one rebellion with a paper peace, but Spain would not let go of the land it had

Are Gender Roles A Social Construct Essay
I am a strong believer that gender roles are a social construct. However, gender identity is not.
Therefore, it is very important to know the difference. Gender roles are defined as theoretical
constructs involving of social and behavioral norms that are widely considered to be socially
appropriate for individuals of a specific sex. The perception of genderroles includes attitudes,
actions, and personality traits associated with a particular gender within that culture. Gender roles
are predominantly considered within a family context as well as within society in general . I
believe that gender roles and gender expression are social constructs. There is almost nothing that is

A woman is no less a woman when she possesses traditionally masculine qualities and a man is
no less a man when he possesses traditionally feminine qualities. Gender roles are outdated in
modern society and only cast a negative light on those who don t adhere to them. They no
longer hold ground in our society. Household chores are not gendered. There is no reason to
believe that they are, just because a certain group of people of one gender have been forced to
occupy those roles for years, it doesn t mean the activity is or should be gendered. Women are
not better at household things and men are not better at non household things. Everyone needs to
learn to do what they need to do to survive. If someone has a skill that does not stereotypically
conform to their gender, they should be able to use that skill without feeling like society is
against them. Why let a useful skill go to waste? It is true that gender roles are not always bad or
oppressive even though they still are expectations and obligations placed by

Characteristics Of Chinese Immigrants In America
Before World War II, the Chinese immigrants to the U.S had many characteristics. First, the Chinese
immigrants mainly came from mainland China, such as the Guangdong province. The Chinese
immigrants mainly came from the Guangdong province of China because of the location of
Guangdong province. The Guangdong province was close to coastal areas where Guangong people
could take the boasts and migrate to America. Also, Guangdong people was far away from the
Chinese government s control. Therefore, Chinese immigrants could easily migrated from the
Guangdong province of Chinato America. Second, most of the Chinese immigrants were poor and
came from rural areas in China. They migrated to America because they suffered from poor
harvests and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, they were undesirable workers in America. Therefore, one of the characteristics of the
Chinese immigrants was that they were mainly male.
Besides the Page Law, the Chinese exclusion act of 1882 affected the characteristics of Chinese
immigrants the most. In 1882, Chinese people were excluded because they became a threat to
American society. Under the Chinese exclusion act, the number of Chinese was decreased and the
bachelor society was formed. The bachelor society was a reaction to the Chinese exclusion act and a
shelter for Chinese people to live in. A great example of bachelor society is Chinatown. Because of
the influence of the Chinese exclusion act of 1882, Chinese immigrants concentrated in Chinatown
and had special characteristics. In Chinatown, the first characteristic of the Chinese immigrants
were mostly men because Chinese women were excluded. Besides, most Chinese immigrants
formed split households in Chinatown because the Chinese exclusion act prohibited the Chinese
family unification and the interracial marriage between White and Chinese.
Second, the Chinese exclusion act of 1882 caused many illegal Chinese immigrants in America.
The illegal Chinese immigrants were assisted by the CCBA or the six company and entered
America illegally. According to article, the six company, as a transnational Chinese, directed and
managed the illicit smuggling business. For instance, the Chinese immigrants arrived in

Taking a Look at Sports Psychology
Don t think of a pink elephant. Come on don t let the picture creep into your mind. Stop thinking of
that... Pink Elephant (Gardner). It has been proven that putting a don t or a not into a statement can
cause the brain to have difficulties in interpreting the statement. In sports, players tend to tell
themselves not to do something. In soccer, a goalie might tell him/herself to not let the other team
score a goal, and then the team does. Or in tennis, players tell themselves not to serve the ball into
the net, and then they do just that. Sometimes they tell themselves to do something, and that athlete
might end up doing the unthinkable. With three seconds left in the game, a basketball player might
take the three point shot and win the game, even though they have never been able to make that
shot before. These types of scenario tend to happen all the time. Psychology, or the mental game in
sports, is so important it can completely change the outcome of the game.
Sports Psychology has become more and more influential in understanding how to play the game.
Serious athletes are now training their mind just as much as they train their body. They have found
that to be a champion, it now takes more than just being fit and having talent. As the pressure to
succeed continues to increase, athletes continually add both physical and emotional stress to their
bodies. Mental toughness, or the ability to perform at one s optimal level regardless of their
circumstances, is a

The Girls Are Considered Outcasts
Three hundred girls are considered outcasts every year. They re shipped off into an unknown
area to most people. The girls are only eleven and they re taken away from their families. Their
families are the ones that want them gone. I boarded the cruise ship and I walked in the suite.
There were a huge group of boys walking around. The cruise shipis very warm and it s very cozy.
The boarding event takes about three hours. The girls have to line up and they have to get a
baggage check. I can t wait to go on this journey. I just feel unloved by my parents. The boys are
there to help the girls.
They re outcasts too, but they re much older than the girls. They re either sixteen or seventeen.
There s a front desk and the workers used their computers. The workers are boys and they make
sure the girls are ok. It s been two hours since the boarding event started. I reached my room and it
was a luxury suite. I shared the room with another girl. Her name is Bailey Holland. Her dad is rich
and I heard she is very smart. Bailey greeted me and I smiled.
Hi, Bailey. I said. Hi, Sarina. Bailey said. You know my name? I said. Of course, the workers
told me you would be my roommate. They showed me your picture. You are so pretty. Bailey
said. Thank you. I said. I heard there s a very big restaurant that sells barbecue and steaks. Bailey
said. I love barbecue. I said. There are more restaurants. Bailey said. Let s check them out. I said.

Causes And Treatment Of Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic Cancer What exactly is the pancreas it is an organ that makes insulin and enzymes for
digestion. The pancreas is located behind the lower part of the stomach and is about the size of a
hand (National Institute of Health, n.d.). Pancreatic cancer is a disease that targets the Pancreas.
Can start out as pancreatitis, which can be acute inflammation of the pancreasor the hereditary and
even the deadliest chronic pancreatitis. The chronic form can devastate and debilitate the patient
this form is at higher risk of pancreatic cancer. The mode of transmission is abnormal cells start to
multiply and reproduce and collect creating a tumor or a mast. The detection and treatment of
these tumors can be difficult as medical imaging such as x rays, sonograms and MRI s don t
always give an adequate depiction of the cancer the best way to see the pancreas is through surgery.
There are over 100 kinds of Cancer, the term cancer is used to described a disease in which
abnormal cells divide without control and can invade other tissues (Center for Disease Control
and Prevention(CDC), 2016). Cancer cells do not die out naturally, once the cells start to grow;
they metastasize forming new abnormal cells. In many cancer cases the abnormal cells collect
and form tumors. They have also been known to grow in other tissues and spread all over the body
which is referred to as seeding. Normal cells do not do this. When the DNA is damaged it can
cause cancer cells to rapidly reproduce and

Gran Torino Differences
Gran Torino Report A great majority of Walt s and Thao s differences are because of the
contrasting cultures they originate from. Thao comes from the Hmong people and Walt is a
Caucasian American. During the movie, the Hmong culture is expressed, the Hmong people
express gratitude and thanks to people through gifts and in return, exchange for work. For
example, when Thao apologized for attempting to steal Walt s car, his mother and sister give Thao
to Walt as a helping hand until his debt is paid off. This also shows some the Hmong peoples value
of respect when one of their own cause trouble to a respected another. When Walt is invited to

As opposed to Thao, who represented the men of Hmong , was very conforming and showed
little masculinity. Like Walt, he begin to reflect Walt s manliness throughout the movie. Despite
their major differences, Walt and Thao were alike to a certain extent: Thao and Walt share the
quality of caring for others, although they did not express it much, it was still present. The
problem I recognized that Walt had with his Hmong neighbors appeared in the beginning of the
movie and was that fact the Walt was a Korean War Veteran, because of this he seemed to have
an automatic resentment or dislike against them. Walt did violate many rules or norms, at the
barbeque he was confused and frustrated when Thao s family members stared at him, he was
later informed by Thao s sister that it was rude to look people directly in the eyes in Hmong
culture. Walt also was unaware that in Hmong culture, it is insulting to not accept gifts or help in
which is another rule is violated when refusing to accept the gifts and food for saving Thao. One
major, personal value Walt publicly displayed was his belief that you should retaliate when
someone troubles you, this happens in two scenes when Walt beat the gang member that

  • 2. The Importance of Education Essay The Importance of Education Education has always been a crucial part of society for the past centuries. Some believe that our education is a privilege. Some believe that our education is a right. Some believe that our education is an obligation. The only obligation we might have towards education is to treat it as a privilege as well as a right, but certainly not an obligation to have an education. Education has been the basis for the success we see in our parents, our teachers, and more importantly, ourselves. Over time, people have considered and concluded that education is a privilege. Education is a privilege because not many people can afford an education, and we should be grateful that we have this opportunity that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is true because you cannot be denied an education based on your nationality, skin color, hair color, or any physical features, even being handicapped. It is the right of the individual to seek an education, as long as the individual is fully capable financially and mentally. Let say ?Melissa,? a fictional fourteen year old African American girl, wants to attend Hinsdale Central. A fairly good school, if I do say so myself, for a student to attend preceding college, as I have. Let?s say Hinsdale Central refuses to let Melissa attend their school for various reasons, such as her skin color. It?s Melissa?s constitutional right to contest this decision by the fact that the school denied her admittance based on her skin color, which is discrimination. However, the school does not have to admit Melissa, even though she is completely qualified. The individual does not have the right to an education, but rather has the right to seek and education. The individual can only have a right to an education if the school offering the education refuses them based on physical features. What about obligations, is an education one of them? Education can be an obligation in a personal way, but education is certainly not an obligation to receive in the general aspect. If a person feels obligated about their education, they are most likely not going to be motivated. Motivation comes from the parents, the teachers, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Benefits Of Airline And Airport Privatization 1.Introduction The airline industry is governed by a rapidly evolving framework of economic regulation by which many factors, significantly continued liberalisation and open skies, have caused much turbulence and uncertainty in this increasingly low margin market. Although separate entities, airlines and airports are interdependent and could not operate without the other. A major consequence of deregulation is airline concentration and strong economic drivers are pushing towards even further concentration and consolidation (Doganis, 2006). UK airport regulation was reformed with airport privatisation, enabling a long term focus to meet international demand and to maintain a customer focused business plan, allowing management to monitor and adjust costs and boost income. The aim of this report is to examine these consequences, and the benefits of airline and airport mergers and acquisitions, and will look specifically at the acquisition of Monarch Airlines by Jet2.com (known as Jet2(b) later in this report). It will also look at similar acquisition benefits of Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) by Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd (HAH). 2.Overview of Airlines 2.1Jet2.com Founded in 2003, Jet2.com Ltd is part of the Dart Group Plc and is the fourth largest leisure airline in the UK, serving the North and is based at Leeds Bradford International Airport. • 4. Finding Nemo Father In a large variety of media, characters face both internal and external conflicts, an everyday occurrence that is experienced by all. Typically, protagonists are given a superficial challenge to overcome. However, as the story progresses, some characters undergo an unforeseen expedition within themselves. Classic movies, such as Finding Nemo, exhibit this common phenomenon. Finding Nemo follows the quest of a clownfish as he embarks on the journey to find his son. Even though Marlin originally sought out to locate his lost child, he soon began his internal journey of trust. Marlin, one of the protagonists, is the standard overprotective parent. He most likely inherited his vigilant behaviors following the tragic incident of losing a great portion of his family. One night, Marlin and his wife were attacked by a barracuda, leaving Marlin unconscious. When he woke up, he discovered that both his wife Coral and the majority of their eggs had vanished, with the exception of Nemo. Although obscure, these details can be found throughout the storyline. In this case, Marlin is the quester (a) and his place to go (b) is Sydney, Australia in hopes to find his son (c). Along the way, he and Dory encounter many strenuous challenges, including near death confrontation with sharks, jellyfish, and a killer whale (d). Once reunited with Nemo, it can then be inferred that Marlin fought to find Nemo to preserve what was left of his precious family (e). The events that unfolded on that day in Selma, Alabama, will forever conjure images of relentless beatings, bullwhips, and tear gas in the minds of Americans (The Making Of LBJ s Historic We Shall Overcome Speech). African American citizens of the United States were facing a continued deadly threat at the hands of Southern Separatists and local officials, simply for the right to dutifully vote. • 6. Why Geothermal Energy Is Good For The Environment And The... Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial? Com 217: Science Writing and Presentation Purdue University November 3, 2014 Why is Geothermal Energy Beneficial? Volcanoes are wondrous formations on the earth. Humans are fascinated by them but are often very cautious about volcanoes. They see them as explosive, lava spewing mountains often causing natural disasters. These are just some of the effects of a volcano but plus side to it is that its energy can be harnessed. Energy that can be used from a volcano is Geothermal Energy. It is a clean, renewable energy which uses the steam produced from vents and hot springs near volcanoes. In this paper I am going to prove why Geothermal Energy is good for the environment and the society. Firstly I am going to discuss what geothermal energy is. Secondly, I will discuss the benefits of geothermal energy to the environment. Thirdly I am going to show how geothermal energy is beneficial to the society around its source. Lastly I will compare geothermal energy to other energy sources and show why geothermal energy is the way to go. What is Geothermal Energy? The earth stores thermal energy within itself, this energy is then projected to the surface of the earth. This is then released through vents that are close to volcanic systems or other tectonically active areas. These could be steam vents, mud pots and hot springs. The temperatures used to reach up to 100 degrees centigrade. This is the most conventional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. James Berger s After The End Reading Response on James Berger s monograph After the End James Berger s After the End: Representations of Post Apocalypse gives a detailed and broad overview of specific representations of post apocalypses in American culture. In the three parts of the book, Berger focuses on the problematic of post apocalyptic representation, representations of the Holocaust and post apocalyptic phenomena in recent American culture. In the first part, he examines post apocalyptic representation as a paradoxical, oxymoronic discourse (19) and connects apocalypse with the idea of trauma, describing these post apocalyptic representations as symptoms of historical trauma. Additional, he includes the figures of the angel and the survivor in his analysis as post traumatic [and] post apocalyptic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He uses two novels to better interpret how the traumas of the holocaust are anchored in western societies and to depict how the end would look like, namely like apocalypses that already occurred. In the third part, Berger turns to more recent post apocalyptic phenomena of American culture, analyzing Reaganism as the most conspicuous and politically powerful instance of [...] American post apocalypticism (134). Reaganism sees America as an already achieved utopia, meaning the apocalypse has already happened and therefore also traumas were generated, which were largely disavowed. However, Berger puts the 1960s in contrast to Reaganism as apocalyptic because of their critique of American history (cf. 140) and additional depicts the social disintegration of this period as its main trauma (156). The analysis of two post apocalyptic novels concerning their historical traumas underlines his findings of the third part and give evidence of, nostalgia, the repetition of traumas and social movements. In the epilogue, Berger finally concludes that the process of rebuilding traumas continues in American post apocalyptic culture and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Comparison Of Betrayal In The Lion, The Witch And The... The Betrayal in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe According the Merriam Webster dictionary, to betray is to deliver to an enemy by treachery , or to give information about (a person, group, country, etc.) to an enemy . Betrayal is the result of many factors, including feelings of morality, greed and gluttony, and fear. In The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe , both the original novel and the 2005 movie, betrayal is exhibited as natural behaviour that can fortify relationships and teach people to forgive. Firstly, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe demonstrates that betrayal is recurrent behaviour that is the result of an innumerable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He knows that he will not be awarded with any Turkish Delight, but he still tells that Witch more information out of habit, therefore betraying his siblings again. He is surprised by the Witch s threat to the Fox, and his reflexive response is to betray. Similarly, betrayal can occur when individuals are influenced by strong negative emotions. An example of this is shown when the Witch betrays Edmund by not giving him what she promised and also causes him to betray his siblings, all because of a deep fear. She is terrified of losing her throne, so she will do anything to prevent the prophecy from coming true, including forcing people to betray others. Edmund had an even greater incentive than Turkish Delight to betray his siblings. He was not on peaceful terms with Peter, Susan, and Lucy, and his hatred was a large factor in his actions. Even Peter could see his nasty temper: You ve always liked being beastly to anyone smaller than yourself; we ve seen that at school before now (46). Due to the number of times that betrayal is portrayed in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the audience is able to see that it can be initiated by a myriad of factors. Secondly, the aftermath of treachery can include the reinforcement and the development of relationships. Since forgiveness shows love and compassion, people are brought closer together than they have been before. For instance, in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the ... • 12. Taking a Look at Lactation Lactation, as well as the mammary glands by which mothers provide their young with milk, have long been regarded as an exclusive and defining trait of the vertebrate class Mammalia. In fact, Linnaeus himself outfitted our own phylogenetic class with this name because they possess mammae (Gregory 1910). How such complex methods of delivering nourishment to young evolved in the first place has always been a hotly contested topic. Breasts, teats, and nipples are all soft tissue, so they cannot be directly observed in the fossil record. What original structures evolved into mammary glands? Did all mammals have them? Is it possible that our reptilian ancestors (or rather, our common ancestor with modern reptiles) also lactated? This paper examines the work of paleontologists, evolutionary biologists, and geneticists of the last 120 years to try to gain some insight into these questions, and whether they can ever be truly answered. Before delving into the origins of lactation, one must understand the basic progression of mammalian evolution from our last common ancestor with reptiles to the modern placental mammal . The last common ancestors diverged into two groups: synapsids and sauropsids. Synapsids are the ancestors of mammals and their extinct relatives (often called mammal like reptiles) while sauropsids went on to become reptiles and birds (Oftedal 2002). The two clades were distinguished by characteristics of their skulls. Synapsids branched out into many different types, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Importance Of Physical Beauty In The Renaissance Era Society s perception of love changes constantly. As a result, poems of different time periods have different perceptions of love and beauty. Ben Jonson s A Vision of Beauty and Samuel Daniel s But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again reflect the importance of physical beauty in love during the Renaissance Era. In the Victorian Period, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt s I See You Juliet and Robert Browning s A Face continue to reflect society s fascination with female beauty in both a positive and negative way. In the Modern Period, a shift occurs in both marriageand lovewith a greater emphasis on true love and inner beauty. In his poem, But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again , he focuses on warning women to find love soon because beauty will not last with age. He compares a woman s beauty to a flower: the fairest flower that ever saw the light / men do not weigh the stalk for what it was / when they find her flower, her glory, pass (Daniel 6, 13 14). Through this metaphor, he shows how men view beauty in love. No one looks at a dead flower and thinks about what it used to be, rather, he or she looks towards other flowers that bloom with life and colour. This sonnet begins as an admiration for his subject s beauty, but it ends by telling the subject that when her physical beauty deteriorates, no one will love her. This poem reflects society s fixation on superficial beauty because it reminds women that they will never find love without external beauty, as a result of the superficiality of men in society. Both poems of the Renaissance Period assert the idea of perfection and the importance of physical beauty in love and relationships. Victorian era poets continue to propound the importance of superficial beauty. During this era, there was a continual belief in lust and sexual desires, evident in the rampant disloyalty that husbands showed their wives (Hughes). Sharia law and Sufism both seem to contradict each other. Sharia laws are the Qur anic rules for the tangible world. The law includes predetermined punishment and rewards for actions, clearly defined by the Qur an. It also has a spectrum of the lawfulness of actions, ranging from required to forbidden. Sufism, however, takes a more mystical approach to the practice of Islam. Sufism focuses on rejecting the material world and becoming one with God through self annihilation. Despite the difference, I argue Sharialaw and Sufism can be reconciled because although one person cannot practice both at the same time, but both versions of Islam... For example, if one is accused of drinking alcohol, there has to be a witness to the act just a smell in one s breath wouldn t be enough to prosecute (Rushad, 534). However, skeptical Muslims question if drinking alcohol is completely forbidden or only drinking to the point of intoxication. Some also brought up cases such as someone dying of thirst taking a sip of alcohol. Would this still be punishable? Problems like these are where Islamic scholars known as Muftis come and try to give a solution based on their Qur anic knowledge (Hallaq, 9). Islamic laws can controversial at a times due to ambiguity of Qur an. When Muslims are not sure about Sharia law they usually ask a Mufti. Mufti, after considering the issue, then issue a Fatwa, a legal answer to a question a Mufti was asked to address (Hallaq, 9). For example, theft is committed when something is taken from its appropriate safe place. One might ask what is considered a safe place and Muftis will issue a Fatwa identifying what qualifies as a safe place. Muftis determines punishment for Hudud based on the Qur an (citation). For example, the punishment for theft is the cutting off of one s hand, which raises the question of what is considered a hand. Is it up to one s wrist, up to one s elbow, or up to one s shoulder? Historians have read into this lead and are now searching the tomb of the late leader. (Reporter). The location of King Arthur s last battle can be identified as well as some of the characters, meaning the battle actually happened! Some works of literature record Arthur not just as a hero, but a tyrant as well. According to Gildas, Arthur is spoken of as a tyrant, and wholly without heroic qualities, showing that the life was composed before Geoffrey of Monmouth had thrown a false glamour over this disreputable prince, who generally figures in the Legends of the Welsh Saints as an egregious bully, with nothing of the White Arthur about him. Just this one quote explains that King Arthur was real, even if he was not the angel everyone thought he was. Although the legends state that King Arthur was apart of twelve battles, it is not true. Normal distribution is important in statistics and is often used in the natural and social sciences to represent real valued random variables whose distributions are not known. This distribution is useful because of the central limit theory. In its most general form, under some conditions which include finite variance), it states that average of random variables independently drawn from independent distributions converge in distribution to the normal, that is, become normally distributed when the number of random variables is sufficiently large. The normal distribution is sometimes informally called the bell curve. However, many other distributors are bell shaped( such as the Cauchy, students and logistic distribution). Measure of Central Tendency : The Mean, Median and Mode are all valid measures of central tendency, but under different conditions, some measures of central tendency become more appropriate to use than others. Mean The Mean is essentially a model of your data set. It is the value that is the most common. • 21. James Mcpherson s Antebellum Southern Exceptionalism Throughout the course of history, one of the most pivotal points was the American Revolution. The independence the colonies gained from England allowed for the creation of the way we live today. However, it is important to know that while some aspects of our country today are based on rules set during the revolution, America, as we know it today, was shaped drastically by the Civil war. The Civil war acted as a second revolution in our country, pushing us closer to how society is now. Historians have wondered what caused the Civil War, was it a matter of slavery? Politics? Or another underlying issue? Historians such as James McPherson, William Gienapp, and Susan Mary Grant have explored events that occurred before the Civil war and ultimately describe why the South succeeded. In McPherson s Antebellum Southern Exceptionalism essay, it is noted that the argument is focused on the fact that although the South was seen as different and exceptional, it was actually the North who had been changing. The South was only keeping the same values and traditions it had been following for years (McPherson 41). One instance where the North s change is noted is when McPherson demonstrates the percentage of agricultural work in the North and South; In 1800, 82 percent of the Southern labor force worked in agriculture compared with 68 percent in the free states. By 1860 the Northern share had dropped to 40 percent while the Southern proportion had actually increased slightly, to 84 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Book Of Job Is One Of The Writings The Book of Job is one of the writings of the Hebrew Scriptures. It is renowned for its use of lyrical poetry, sharp rhetoric, and distinct characters. It begins and ends with prose, while the bulk of the story is told through poetic dialogue. The text is considered to be the locus classicus on the contemplation of evil given the presence of an all powerful Godthat is good. This question of evil is often referred to as theodicy, an amalgamation of the Greek words for God and trial . The quotation For he is not a man, as I am, that I might answer him, that we should come to trial together. There is no umpire between us who might lay his hand upon us both (Job 9:32 33) acknowledges the fundamental distinction between God and man; the impossibility of man contending with God; and the lack of an arbitrator capable of mediating divinity. The cardinal difference between God and man is that God is omnipotent, while man is impotent. It is worth noting that the line separating God and man is definitive up until the coming of Christ, which seems to be foreshadowed in the Book of Job. Job s suffering helps him comprehend that God is an intangible force that he can never be equal to. In order to understand how man could forget one s insignificance next to God, it is useful to gain some context. One of the gravimetric analyses is the precipitation; it is a method of separating the analyte from the unknown sample as a precipitate where it will be filtered and converted into a known composition that can be weighed to determine its mass (Skoog et al, 2013). Determining the mass of calcium by using gravimetric analysis was the objective of the experiment. A 25 mL of unknown sample was used to analyze its calcium component. The remaining solid from the beaker will be transfer to the funnel by adding 3mL of ice cold water to the beaker. We made sure that all of the precipitate has been transferred. After that, we used 10 mL of ice cold water to rinse each beaker and pour the washings over the precipitate. We transferred the precipitate in to the petridish, but before that we weighted first the petridish with the filter paper so that we can get the grams of the CaC2O4 2H2O precipitate later. We dried the precipitate in an oven set at 105oC for 1 hour. After that, we placed it inside the desiccator for 30 minutes to cool down the heat. Stuxnet .LNK Vulnerability was discovered by a German computer science student Michael Heerklot, who through interest in the discovery and impact of Stuxnet exploit, decided to investigate Stuxnet attack, particularly the hack of the Natanz uranium enrichment facility where the .LNK vulnerability in windows shell was exploited in 2010 [1]. He examined the .LNK vulnerability, which was presumably patched by Microsoft, to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The issue is that in Windows, icons are executed from modules (either executables or dynamic link libraries). In fact, .CPL files are actually DLLs. Because an attacker could define which executable module would be loaded, an attacker could use the .LNK file to execute arbitrary code inside of the Windows shell and do anything the current user could [2]. The first patch released August in 2010, Microsoft put in an explicit whitelist check with MS10 046. Once installed, it intended to ensure that only approved .CPL files should have been used to load non standard icons for links. This patch failed and for more than four years, all windows files have been vulnerable to exactly the same attack that stuxnet attackers used in initial exploit. In light of its recent rediscovery, it is unknown if other groups discovered and exploited the vulnerability in the wild [2]. The section below explores the section of code that was patched in the initial patch in 2010 and how the vulnerability remained vulnerable. The definition of the function shown below is taken from a function called CControlPanelFolder::GetUiObjectOf() in Shell32.dll. Shown in the diagram below is the first block that was changed after zero day vulnerability was discovered. In the event below a whitelist check was put in place. • 36. The Effect Of Different Temperatures On The Reaction Rates... Simryn Covarrubias Period 9 Group 1 The Effects of Different Temperatures on the Reaction Rates of Enzymes B. Introduction / Background Enzymes are proteins that are in every living organism. Cells need them to survive and to function. Enzymes are catalysts that help to speed up the rate of reactions that otherwise would take longer periods of time to occur. However they do not change during the reaction. A chain of amino acids forms them. There are over a hundred different enzymes in the human body. Each enzyme is responsible for a certain reaction that occurs in the cell. For instance, the enzymes in our stomach cut food into small enough particles so it can be converted into energy, which our bodies will later use. Without enzymes human wouldn t be able to breathe, eat, drink or digest food. There are 3 main types of enzymes: metabolic enzymes, food enzymes and digestive enzymes. Metabolic enzymes exist throughout your whole body from your organs to your blood to inside your bones. This enzyme is essential for the growth of new cells and maintaining new tissue. Food enzymes exist in raw food. However if the raw food is cooked the high temperature that is involved in cooking the food will destroy the enzyme. The organs in our bodies make digestive enzymes. This enzyme plays a major role in digestion. When we eat raw food we don t need additional enzymes because the raw food already contains them. If we eat a salad than there are enzymes in the salad that help break ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Concept Of Collaboration Within The Organization Introduction Interagency collaboration is the modern concept of collaboration in which different organization within and outside of government work together towards a common objective. Collaboration involves all the organizations and agencies in the advancement of the common agenda, and it has been the real catalyst for development (Finn Kohler, 2009). Different programs have been initiated to ensure that agencies can collaborate and work together to enhance social, economic and political development. Agencies can collaborate at different levels ranging from exchange of information, coordination, cooperation and collaboration and all the levels of collaboration focus on working together to achieve common objectives (Noonan Morningstar, 2008). At the basic level, the issue of collaboration has no single comprehensive definition, but generally, it refers to the joint action in different organizations in an effort to articulate for a common objective. Inter agency collaboration aims to bring together agencies, service providers, and workforces to form temporary of long lasting partnerships that can enable sharing of resources to reduce the overall costs for program implementation and increase efficiency. Your gums and jawbone that supports the dentures are gradually eroded over a period of time and the device may not fit as well as it initially used to. It should be noted that there are whistle blowing statutes in many jurisdictions where an employee is allowed to report illegal activity and will be protected from being fired (Larson, 2003). Indeed, whistle blowing is largely encouraged in society in general as the government wants people to come forward when the giants of Corporate America are doing something bad. It has been proven that putting a don t or a not into a statement can cause the brain to have difficulties in interpreting the statement. In sports, players tend to tell themselves not to do something. In soccer, a goalie might tell him/herself to not let the other team score a goal, and then the team does. Or in tennis, players tell themselves not to serve the ball into the net, and then they do just that.
