This document presents 7 case studies of decentralized municipal solid waste management in Mumbai. The case studies show different community-based organizations treating wet, dry, and electronic waste using composting, vermicomposting, and waste-to-energy methods. The initiatives have led to reductions in waste transported by the municipal corporation and generated additional income from selling compost or recyclables. Challenges include odor, maintenance costs, and ensuring proper waste segregation and treatment. Overall the case studies demonstrate grassroots solutions to Mumbai's waste problems can provide environmental and financial benefits.
